The 930-passenger Viking Sky – which debuted in February 2017 – receives rave reviews from past cruisers for its port-heavy itineraries (fares include one complimentary excursion per port) and luxurious, comfortable staterooms. Cabins offer between 270 and 1,448 square feet of space and include balconies, complimentary Wi-Fi access, flat-screen TVs and bathrooms with heated floors, among other amenities. Those who opt for an upgraded stateroom or suite are treated to additional perks, like priority reservations at the spa and specialty restaurants.

Viking Sky's activities include classes at the fitness center, treatments at the spa and destination-focused lectures. The ship also offers two pools and two whirlpools, including an infinity pool on the stern of the ship. In the evenings, passengers can enjoy live performances in the theater or watch destination-related movies in one of two cinemas.

Guests also have their choice of cuisine, from alfresco dining on the Aquavit Terrace to Manfredi's Italian Restaurant. With 550 crew members on board, the ship maintains a nearly 2-to-1 guest-to-crew ratio.

Viking Sky sails to the Mediterranean, Europe, Central America and more. The ship also offers world voyages.

Debuted in May 2023, Oceania Cruises' first new ship in more than a decade can hold up to 1,200 passengers and 800 crew members. Vista is the inaugural ship in Oceania's Allura Class, featuring top-of-the-line amenities like a culinary center, an artist loft and an extensive library, along with facilities like a pool, a casino, a spa and a fitness center. Additionally, Vista offers enrichment opportunities like destination-focused seminars led by guest speakers and dynamic musical performances.

One of the highlights of Oceania Vista is its wide array of dining venues, from specialty restaurants like Ember (American fare) and Toscana (Italian cuisine) to the poolside Waves Grill and daily afternoon tea service. In the evening, guests can grab a drink at their choice of several bars and lounges; Vista's immersive mixology program utilizes innovative techniques and trends to create an elevated cocktail experience.

Vista's well-appointed staterooms – which range from 240 to 2,400 square feet – boast balconies, queen-size beds, rainforest showers, flat-screen TVs and 24-hour room service, among other amenities. If you splurge for a suite, you'll enjoy added benefits like iPads, cashmere blankets, complimentary laundry and shoeshine services, access to the Executive Lounge and butler service.

Oceania Vista explores an array of popular destinations in the U.S., the Caribbean, Mexico, the Mediterranean and more.

U.S. News Insider Tip:  The design of the Vista creates more expansive and contemporary public areas than other ships in Oceania's fleet, so even when the ship is at full capacity, it never feels crowded. Also, since it is an all-veranda ship, all guests have the same great ocean view. – Julie L. Kessler, Contributor

Silver Moon

Cruisers seeking an intimate experience should consider booking a trip aboard Silversea's Silver Moon, one of the line's newest ships. Debuted in June 2021, Silver Moon accommodates just 596 passengers. And with 411 crew members, travelers can expect an attentive experience.

One standout amenity is the Sea And Land Taste (S.A.L.T.) program. The dining experience aims to introduce passengers to their destinations through food. On board, the S.A.L.T. Lab offers travelers the chance to participate in tastings and workshops, while the S.A.L.T. Kitchen provides a unique dining experience. On shore, foodies can book special cuisine-focused excursions through the program. Not an adventurous eater? Not to worry. Silver Moon boasts seven additional eateries serving everything from pizza to tapas to grilled meat and fish.

Following a delicious meal, travelers will have access to a wealth of amenities, including the spa, a pool, several whirlpools, lounges and a fitness center. When evening rolls around, cruisers can press their luck at the casino or catch a live show.

Launched in April 2016, Viking Sea is the second vessel in Viking's Ocean Cruises fleet. Carrying 930 passengers, the ship's small size is designed to allow direct access to smaller ports around the world.

Viking Sea's staterooms range from 270-square-foot Veranda Staterooms to the 1,448-square-foot Owner's Suite. All accommodations include balconies, flat-screen TVs, king-sized beds, complimentary Wi-Fi access and bathrooms with heated floors. The ship's facilities include a fitness center, a Nordic spa (complete with a snow grotto), an outdoor gym and yoga area, a theater and a one-of-a-kind infinity pool on the stern of the ship that gives the illusion of swimming in the ocean.

When you work up an appetite, the Viking Sea offers a variety of dining options to quell your hunger. They range from casual Norwegian cuisine at Mamsen's to alfresco dining on the Aquavit Terrace. Carnival Panorama

A member of Carnival Cruise Line's Vista class, the Carnival Panorama debuted in December 2019 as the first new Carnival ship homeported on the West Coast in 20 years. With a capacity of 4,008 guests and 1,450 crew, Panorama is one of Carnival's largest ships.

Among the ship's standout amenities is the Sky Zone – a trampoline park that offers dodgeball and basketball games, toddler bounce sessions and more. Other unique Carnival amenities found on the ship include a suspended bicycle in the air called SkyRide, a sprawling water park, the Cloud 9 Spa and an open-air recreation area and ropes course.

Dining options on board are just as diverse. In fact, there are more than a dozen dining venues aboard Carnival Panorama, including multiple Guy Fieri eateries, a sushi restaurant, a steakhouse, a seafood eatery and more.

Carnival Panorama offers the line's typical range of accommodation classes (Interior, Ocean View, Balcony and Suite) along with Family Harbor and Havana staterooms and suites. Havana Cabana Suites feature rain showers and patios equipped with hammock chairs, along with exclusive access to the Havana Bar & Pool. Meanwhile, Family Harbor accommodations are located next to the ship's Family Harbor Lounge and afford guests special perks, such as a free evening of babysitting and complimentary kids meals in the onboard specialty restaurants.

Carnival Radiance features a ropes course, waterslides, a mini-golf course, dive-in movies in the evening and a sports area for activities like soccer, basketball, volleyball and boxing. Inside, the spa, the piano bar, the comedy club and the performance event venue, which features musicals, concerts and more, round out some of Carnival Radiance's most popular offerings. Dining options (14 eateries in total, including a Chef's Table experience) abound on this ship as well: Cruisers can enjoy casual fare at Big Chicken or Guy's Burger Joint, or sit down for a more upscale meal at Cucina del Capitano, Bonsai Sushi or the Steakhouse.

Staterooms aboard the ship include Interior (porthole and picture window choices are available), Ocean View, Balcony and Suite category options. Carnival Radiance sets sail from Los Angeles to destinations in Hawaii and Mexico .

Seabourn Quest

Seabourn Quest, which launched in June 2011, is one of the smallest ships in Seabourn's fleet. It can fit up to 458 passengers and about one crew member for every cruiser. It is virtually identical to the Seabourn Sojourn and Seabourn Odyssey .

Seabourn Quest differs from the line's newer ships in terms of accommodations, as it offers some Ocean View Suites with porthole windows instead of verandas. However, all cabins still come equipped with amenities like flat-screen TVs, designer toiletries, personalized stationery, Egyptian cotton linens and in-suite bars stocked with your preferred refreshments.

Outside your suite, you can enjoy a range of pursuits, such as spa and salon treatments, free fitness classes, a nine-hole putting green and two swimming pools. Additionally, Seabourn Quest offers complimentary water sports equipment rentals at its Watersports Marina in select destinations.

Once you've worked up an appetite, sit for a meal at one of the ship's four restaurants, including the main dining room and The Grill, a steakhouse helmed by Michelin-starred chef Thomas Keller. And for evening entertainment, you'll have access to a variety of bars, plus a casino, a dance club and the Grand Salon, where cabaret performances, comedy shows and more are hosted nightly.

Quest sails to and from destinations around the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Northern Europe and more.

As part of Oceania's fleetwide revamp, Regatta was completely redesigned in September 2019. Passengers in Veranda Staterooms and Suites will enjoy verandas and spaces ranging from 216 to 1,000 square feet, while Inside and Ocean View cabins are smaller. The ship now offers solo staterooms for those who are traveling alone. No matter which you choose, all staterooms are equipped with minibars, flat-screen TVs and 24-hour room service, plus all-new furnishings and marble bathrooms.

The 670 passengers will receive Oceania's signature service, with 400 crew members catering to guests' needs. Recent cruisers noted they rarely encountered crowds in the ship's public areas. The atmosphere aboard Regatta is decidedly adult, as the ship caters to older, affluent cruisers.

Entertainment varies from nightly musical performances to table games at the casino. Dining is also diverse: Regatta offers five venues ranging from the formal dining room to a casual grill. All-new plant-based menu items are also available.

Regatta sails to destinations in Mexico, Asia, Australia and more.

Seabourn Sojourn

The 458-passenger Seabourn Sojourn debuted in June 2010 and features all-suite accommodations. About 90% of the suites offer verandas, and all accommodations provide 24-hour room service, flat-screen TVs, bathrooms with dual sinks and a separate living area and bedroom. What's more, cruisers are welcomed with complimentary Champagne upon arrival and can enjoy a fruit basket that's refreshed daily. A suite stewardess is assigned to each cabin to assist with requests as well. Sojourn is virtually identical to its sister ships, Seabourn Odyssey  and Seabourn Quest .

Outside the rooms, travelers can gamble at the casino, work up a sweat in the fitness center or relax at the spa. Those interested in soaking up the sun can snag a spot by one of two swimming pools or enjoy one of five hot tubs. Cruisers can also fuel their competitive juices with a round of shuffleboard or golf on the nine-hole putting green. When anchored, vacationers in select destinations can take advantage of the ship's water sports equipment, such as kayaks and paddle boats.

There are four dining venues to choose from on the Seabourn Sojourn, including casual and fine dining options. In the evening, cruisers can enjoy cocktails at one of the bars or dance under the stars. The ship's nearly 1-to-1 crew-to-passenger ratio means cruisers should expect exceptional service.

Sojourn sails to destinations in the Caribbean, the Panama Canal and the Mediterranean, as well as some trans-Atlantic sailings.

11 of the Best Cruises from Los Angeles

Aerial View Of Cruise Ship Sailing On Sea

During the 1970s and 1980s, a fun, indulgent cruise from Los Angeles meant one thing: "The Love Boat," the original ABC Television show. (Let's just say I'm among the baby boomers who fondly recall those original episodes.) Aired in living rooms across North America, the show put "cruising" on the map as a vacation choice.

This year, more than 30 million travelers are expected to cruise, up 6% from last year. And for West Coast travelers who find Florida departures inconvenient, or for people across North America eager for an Alaska, Mexican Riviera or Hawaii cruise, many companies are bolstering their California line-up at both the Port of Los Angeles (San Pedro) and nearby Port of Long Beach.

From the Golden State, travelers can sail north to the glacier-filled waters surrounding Alaska, or navigate the Pacific to the Hawaiian Islands. There are also cruises leaving the Los Angeles area that will carry you south, to Mexico, and beyond — including those that squeeze through the Panama Canal.

Just remember, redeeming points for cruises at a good value can be tricky, so consider using one of the best credit cards for cruises and watch out for bonus categories and bonus offers.

Mexican Riviera Cruises

Seeking sun, tequila tasting and great Mexican food south of the border? Who better to take guests to the Mexican Riviera than Princess Cruises , which in 1965 became the first major cruise line to operate those voyages from Los Angeles at San Pedro? I'd opt for a week-long round-trip Mexican Riviera sailing on Royal Princess, available this spring and again this fall. Ports of call include Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlán and Puerto Vallarta. Princess operates multiple ships at Los Angeles, but let's just say it's all about that "new car feel" here, as this 3,560-passenger ship is currently undergoing a $16 million revitalization. So, when Royal Princess resumes cruising in March from Los Angeles, travelers onboard will be some of the first to experience the refreshed vessel. All staterooms and suites will have new Princess Luxury Beds, and Royal Princess will also offer the stand-out production show, "The Secret Silk," developed in partnership with Stephen Schwartz (composer of "Wicked," "Godspell" and "Pippin").

Norwegian Cruise Line's new amenity-laden, 4,004-passenger Norwegian Bliss was an instant star when it recently began cruising from Los Angeles (San Pedro) to the Mexican Riviera. Based on consumer demand, Norwegian also will bring a nearly new sister, the 3,802-passenger Norwegian Joy , back from China. After a $50 million revitalization, the ship will sail seven-night "Jewels of the Mexican Riviera" itineraries roundtrip from Los Angeles to Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlán and Puerto Vallarta. What's special about Norwegian Joy? Tech fans undoubtedly will flock to the ship's innovative Galaxy Pavilion, a virtual reality world with simulators (just imagine riding a roller coaster in the dark), interactive video walls and more. Additionally, the Lotus Spa & Fitness Center will receive new equipment and fitness machines.

As Carnival Cruise Line's first new ship dedicated to West Coast cruising in two decades, the new, 4,008-passenger Carnival Panorama will begin seven-night Mexican Riviera cruises from the Port of Long Beach in December. This Vista - class ship will sail to Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlán and Puerto Vallarta, with plenty of shore time. Back onboard, guests can happily chow down at the BlueIguana Cantina for burritos and tacos — just one of multiple dining options. Fun features for guests include a WaterWorks aqua park with corkscrew slides and a tipping bucket, a bicycle-in-the-sky SkyRide for bird's eye views from atop the ship, and the new Sky Zone, the cruise industry's first trampoline park at sea. For those seeking serious pampering, opt for a spa stateroom with exclusive privileges at the Cloud 9 Spa; an extra-roomy stateroom in Family Harbor; or a Havana stateroom or suite with exclusive daytime access to a Cuban-themed bar and aft outdoor pool.

The Haven Sundeck on Norwegian Bliss

Panama Canal Cruises

Some voyages along Mexico's Pacific coastline continue southward on an iconic Panama Canal transit. For guests with an active bent and sense of adventure, one appealing option is Royal Caribbean International's 15-night voyage on the 2,050-passenger Vision of the Seas, departing Dec. 1, 2019 from Los Angeles (San Pedro) to San Juan, Puerto Rico. Port calls include Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala; and Puntarenas, Costa Rica on the Pacific Coast, as well as Cartagena, Colombia and Oranjestad, Aruba in the Caribbean. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy rainforest hiking, kayaking and snorkeling. Back on the ship, there's a 40-foot-high rock climbing wall. Vision of the Seas , which also offers roundtrip Mexican Riviera cruises from San Pedro, has robust children's and teen clubs; Centrum aerial performances; plus, specialty dining at Chops Grille, Izumi, Giovanni's Table and others.

For a different vibe, try a refined Panama Canal voyage that goes coast-to-coast with touches reflecting the "Golden Age of Cruising." On July 5, Cunard Line's 2,092-passenger Queen Elizabeth departs on a 19-night voyage south from Los Angeles (San Pedro) to New York; the route is along the Mexican coastline, through the Panama Canal and the Caribbean to Port Everglades, Florida, and then to New York. On this ship, the entertainment is far more traditional: ballroom dancing to live orchestra music in the elegant Queens Room. But Cunard's ships can be "down home," too. For a sea day lunch, one of our favorite spots is the Golden Lion Pub for fish and chips or bangers and mash.

If travelers seek ultra-luxury (and we do mean ultra ), Regent Seven Seas Cruises offers a 15-night Panama Canal sailing from Los Angeles to Miami on Sept. 30; it's operated by the 700-passenger Seven Seas Mariner , revitalized bow-to-stern in 2018. Or, for a longer Panama Canal and Caribbean cruise, Seabourn's 450-passenger Seabourn Sojourn cruises for 31 nights from Los Angeles to Miami on Oct. 16. A highlight of this sailing is that the ship calls at three different Cuban ports, including two days in Havana, where you can take a ride in a colorful, 1950s automobile.

California Cruises

Of course, one of the best itineraries you can take from Los Angeles is a coastal California voyage. Check out upscale Oceania Cruises' seven-night "Stars of the Vine" voyage on the 684-passenger Sirena. This lovely, boutique-style ship will emerge in May from a $100 million "re-inspiration" and every surface of every stateroom and suite will be updated (think: gleaming marble bathrooms). Public spaces will get a makeover, too, with a new, brighter color palette and more contemporary furniture. Sirena's coastal voyage departs roundtrip from Los Angeles on Dec. 7, 2019 and Dec. 14, 2019. First up is a day at Catalina Island, followed by a day in Ensenada, Mexico, where guests can taste wines from Baja California's Guadalupe Valley. Guests can then relax for a sea day before venturing ashore at San Francisco, Monterey and Santa Barbara, all offering prolific vino-tasting opportunities. Back onboard Sirena, cruisers can enjoy such creature comforts as wine-and-culinary activities and the full-service Canyon Ranch Spa.

Alaska Cruises

For those seeking a vacation to "America's Last Frontier," it's possible to sail roundtrip from Los Angeles at San Pedro to Alaska. I'd check out Princess Cruises' 2020 departures on multiple dates with four different ships. Port calls include Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan, in Alaska, plus Victoria, British Columbia. Depending on the itinerary, your sailing will also stop at either Icy Point Strait and the Hubbard Glacier, or the ultimate Alaska "bucket list" destination: Glacier Bay. It's a two-week voyage typically (12 to 14 nights) with many days at sea, so expect to spend a lot of time onboard.

Hawaii and Tahiti Cruises

Given that Honolulu, Hawaii is 3,000 or so nautical miles from Los Angeles, it's hardly a quick jaunt. But travelers who don't mind a leisurely, longer voyage (typically nine sea days and four back-to-back days exploring Hawaii) have several good choices. On Oct. 27, premium Celebrity Cruises' offers a pampering, 15-night voyage roundtrip from Los Angeles at San Pedro on the 2,850-passenger Celebrity Eclipse, one of its popular Solstice-class vessels. During the four days in Hawaii, Celebrity's guests might visit Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, attend a luau or cultural presentation, visit Pearl Harbor, or take a coffee-and-chocolate or helicopter tour. Cruisers can also book a zip lining experience in Hilo that soars over waterfalls and through a rainforest. This cruise also spends a day at Ensenada, Mexico.

And next year, on Jan. 5, 2020, Azamara Club Cruises' 694-passenger Azamara Journey will sail an 18-night "Hawaii and Tahiti" cruise from Los Angeles to Papeete, Tahiti. Cruisers have five relaxing days at sea before reaching Hawaii and plenty of time to enjoy this boutique-style luxury ship's Sun Deck, multiple dining venues, spa, enrichment lectures and entertainment. Calls will include Hilo, Hawaii; Lahaina, Maui; Honolulu, Oahu; and Nawiliwili, Kauai. After many more days at sea, the ship reaches French Polynesia for time ashore at Bora Bora, Moorea and, finally, Papeete, where the ship overnights. Guests might go snorkeling or hike through a tropical valley, and then in the evening, sample culinary specialties from the city's famous "roulettes" (food trucks called caravans).

Head to Muscle Beach, an area full of bodybuilders and fitness fans that help the beach live up to its name.

View All Los Angeles Shore Excursions

Top things to do in los angeles, play on the santa monica pier.

For a fun-filled day in Los Angeles, head to Santa Monica, a scenic neighborhood that is home to a long pier stretching out into the Pacific Ocean. Stop by Santa Monica Pier’s carnival, where you can ride the Ferris wheel, try your hand at carnival-style games, and grab a bite to eat. From the pier’s vantage point, you’ll be privy to gorgeous views of the ocean and California’s coastline.

Explore Malibu

Escape the hustle and bustle of LA and drive up the coast to the laid-back city of Malibu. Enjoy lunch at the end of the historic Malibu Pier at a farmhouse-style restaurant, then head down to the sand and check out Malibu’s gorgeous and rugged beaches, known for their light golden sand and rocky formations that jut out into the ocean.

Take a Picture of the Hollywood Sign

A trip to Los Angeles isn’t complete until you see the city’s famous Hollywood sign. Set high up on a hill overlooking the city, the Hollywood Sign is visible from several vantage points. If you’re looking for a way to get closer, go on a shore excursion that includes a nearby photo op, where you’ll be able to pose in front of the iconic sign.

Where should I eat in Los Angeles?

Cruises from Los Angeles give you the opportunity to try some of LA’s fantastic restaurants before you set off on your vacation. Los Angeles is full of trendy restaurants that are run by some of the most renowned chefs in the world. Look for authentic Mexican cuisine and fresh seafood, including everything from fish tacos to locally caught and exquisitely prepared whole filets of fish at waterfront restaurants. Southern California’s sunny weather and low chance of rain also makes it a fantastic place for outdoor dining. There are beer gardens, patios perched on the beachside cliffs of Malibu, and rooftop bars downtown, where you can enjoy a bite to eat or a refreshing drink under the California sun.

What's the culture and history of Los Angeles?

Los Angeles was originally home to the Chumash and Tongva people. Eventually, the area was claimed by Spain by explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo. It wasn’t until 1781 that the city was officially founded by the Spanish governor Felipe de Neve. In 1821, L.A. came under Mexican rule after the Mexican War of Independence. In 1848, at the end of the Mexican-American War, the city was purchased as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. A boom in the city’s population occurred several decades later when oil was discovered in the region in the 1890s. Today, Los Angeles is the second-most populous city in the United States, home to over four million residents. While a large number of the population works in the entertainment industry, L.A. is also the financial and commercial center of Southern California.

Where can I go shopping in Los Angeles?

If you have dreams of sauntering down Rodeo Drive with your arms full of bags, head to the famous Beverly Hills area, which is full of luxury boutiques and designer brands. If you want to do some serious shopping without dropping a small fortune, head to Venice Beach and Santa Monica, where you’ll find an assortment of popular brand names mixed with affordable boutiques and beachwear shops.

How can I get around Los Angeles?

The best way to get around in Los Angeles is by car, as there aren’t many public transportation options that will take you all around the city. The bus system has several routes, but it’s important to account for traffic delays, no matter what form of transportation you choose. Therefore, booking a shore excursion is a smart way to guarantee that you’ll arrive at your ship on time.

What are the local currency and tipping customs?

The official currency of Los Angeles is the U.S. dollar, and you will find many ATMs all around the city. Tipping 15% to 20% of your total bill is customary for restaurants and taxi service, and most locals leave closer to 20%. It’s common to see a tip jar at eateries and cafes with counter service. Loose change or a small tip isn’t expected, but is often left by locals and appreciated by the staff of those establishments.

There is no shortage of opportunities in cruising from Los Angeles. People in L.A. can cruise on today’s cruise lines like Cunard, Crystal Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises, Princess Cruises, Royal Caribbean, Silversea and many other popular cruise lines.

Famous cruise destinations are Hawaii, Mexico, the Panama Canal, and even The Caribbean. The following are the best stops you should make when you cruises from Los Angeles.

Cruises from Los Angeles: A Global Odyssey Awaits

Los angeles: the epicenter of sea voyages.

Los Angeles, known for its cinematic brilliance, has evolved into a key launching point for cruises from Los Angeles. Beyond its Hollywood glam, the city has become a strategic pivot for travelers embarking on memorable cruises. From sun-drenched Caribbean shores to the Mediterranean’s historical realms, cruises from Los Angeles offer a gateway to global exploration.

Long Beach and San Pedro: Twin Pillars of Cruises from Los Angeles

Central to the thriving scene of cruises from Los Angeles are two vital ports: Long Beach and San Pedro. Both ports form the heart and soul of cruises originating from Los Angeles, granting travelers a myriad of options.

Long Beach Los Angeles

Long Beach, with its captivating vistas, is not just a visual treat. It’s also a prominent launchpad for cruises from Los Angeles that head towards the Caribbean and the intriguing landscapes of South America. Similarly, San Pedro, steeped in maritime tradition, enhances the experience of cruises from Los Angeles, making every departure an event to remember.

The Grand Tapestry of Cruises from Los Angeles

With stalwarts like Princess Cruises and Celebrity Cruises charting courses from these ports, the offerings are both diverse and delightful. Whether it’s the Caribbean’s charm, South America’s vibrancy, or the Mediterranean’s depth, remember: every majestic journey can start with cruises from Los Angeles.

L.A. Cruise Port

San Pedro houses the Port of Los Angeles World Cruise Center, the busiest passenger port in the United States West Coast. Both Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Long Beach Airport are the two airports near the pier.

L.A. Cruise Port is approximately 20.1 miles south of the Los Angeles International Airport. The estimated travel time is around 35-40 minutes. You can also expect Shuttle service and taxis always available.

If you fly from Long Beach International Airport, the port is 19.1 miles away from the L.A. port. Travelling time is around 20-30 minutes from the port to the airport terminal. Shuttle service and taxis are also always available.

Cruises from Los Angeles: LA Port

Pre and Post Cruise Stay: Cruises from Los Angeles

With its subtropical temperature, palm trees, and the coast of white sand beaches, Los Angeles is the perfect city for a pre or post-cruise stopover. This is a metropolis of glitter and glamour, beautiful people, and the biggest names in the entertainment business.

The area has theme parks, movie studios, and museums, which makes it a family-friendly town. So, whether you have one day or several days in the place, you’ve got so many things to do.

Additionally, here are some of my favourites.

Double Decker City Tour

Los Angeles is one of the best places in California to enjoy a Double Decker tour, where you’ll get a front-row seat to see and explore some of the most famous sights in the city.

Cruises from Los Angeles: Double Decker

The tour will begin at 7:59 AM with a charter bus pick up at your hotel or pickup location. The double-decker makes way north through the San Fernando Valley and arrives in Hollywood for lunch on the famous Walk of Fame, where you’ll have time to take photos.

After lunch, the tour will continue to visit many of L.A.’s other sites, including Santa Monica Pier, Venice Beach Boardwalk, Hollywood Bowl Museum, Paramount Studios (optional), Universal Studios (optional), and Beverly Hills.

Universal Studios Hollywood

Universal Studios Hollywood is the ideal place to spend an adventure full of entertainment, fun, and thrills. On the day you arrive, you will discover everything there is to know about Hollywood.

The tour begins at Universal CityWalk, where your guide will give you an overview of all things Hollywood and take you inside a classic movie set. From here, there are only hours of great entertainment as your tour guide takes you around all the famous locations in Studio Tour.

Universal Studios Hollywood also has amazing thrill rides, just like its sister parks in Orlando and Osaka, Japan, where visitors can escape reality while riding.

Cruises from Los Angeles: Universal Studios

Venice Beach

Venice Beach is the perfect family destination. There are countless options for activities—everything from surfing, picnicking, shopping, to lounging on the beach. Venice Boardwalk is a must-do attraction where you can watch many talented street performers and people. For a better experience, watch while grabbing an ice cream cone.

The Venice Canals are another popular attraction that offers a picturesque walk through the canals and surrounding parks. It’s easy to spend one entire day or weekend exploring this area!

Cruises from Los Angeles: Venice Beach

Los Angeles is filled with many iconic movie and T.V. locations. But, it’s also home to Disneyland . This theme park has attractions and entertainment for all ages, from toddlers to adults. A visit to Disneyland is the perfect way to relax in the sun and leave reality behind. It’s a magical place filled with laughter, friendship, and fun–a true “Happiest Place on Earth.” Every ride offers something new.

Here are some of my favourite rides:

  • Space Mountain which is a high-speed roller coaster.
  • Autopia which is the world’s first amusement park ride designed for automobiles, Indiana Jones.
  • The Temple of Doom which is an indoor roller coaster with a high-velocity ride in an abandoned temple full of traps and surprises.
  • The Splash Mountain, where you go on a flume adventure through dark caves before you splash down into cool mountain water.
  • The Matterhorn Bobsleds takes you on another adventure through ice caverns before sending you whizzing around curves.

T.V. Tapings

Take advantage of this admirable opportunity to see the workings of Hollywood, learn how your favourite comedy or talk show is produced, and get a peek at your favourite television celebrities. Request tickets as soon as possible via the internet. Sometimes, tickets are free to public members outside major tourist destinations such as Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood and Universal Studios in the Valley. Tickets are also available at the city’s tourist information centres, which are located in Downtown and Hollywood.

The detail attended to and the artistry displayed in every meal echoes the excellence achieved aboard Seven Seas Splendor ™ . Our chefs will amaze you as they put their hearts and souls into creating each masterpiece of epicurean delight.

An absolute can’t-miss culinary experience aboard Seven Seas Splendor ®, Chartreuse conjures the foodie fantasy of discovering a chic, fine-dining restaurant while strolling the backstreets of Paris. Savor ‘new’ flavors to Chartreuse like frog legs in a garlic cream sauce with rutabaga or bite into the tender veal rack of loin with caramelized endive, grape chutney and the earthy tones of a walnut veal jus sauce.

Sitting and chatting with newfound friends over barista-made coffee has long been a favorite pastime for our guests. Aboard Seven Seas Splendor ® you can now do so in an expanded outdoor section. Our chic metropolitan café with an elegant interior of muted pastels and crisp whites now seamlessly transitions to trendy al fresco seating, where you can sit and chat with clear views of the shimmering sea.

At the heart of Seven Seas Splendor ® is Compass Rose, the largest specialty restaurant across our fleet. This sophisticated venue, exquisite with chandeliers and bold Versace dinnerware, offers a multitude of choices to customize your meal. Savor a favorite like Chateaubriand Beef Tenderloin with a delicious red wine grain mustard sauce or an entirely new dish like the Malaysian-style braised beef short rib with curry sauce and Jasmine rice.

  • La Veranda Begin your day with breakfast at La Veranda and you’ll forever believe it really is the most important meal of the day. Take in gorgeous ocean views from quiet alcoves jutting out over an iridescent sea while savoring made-to-order omelets and other specialties. Late risers can tuck into enhanced lunch buffets indoors or al fresco on a shaded, open-air deck. Lunches feature a variety of delectable selections, including hot carving stations.
  • Pacific Rim Discover and devour Pan-Asian culinary traditions. Featuring intricate architectural details, wood carvings and an immense art installation of a mythical dragon, Pacific Rim will delight with a perfect balance of flavors and Zen-like ambiance. The menu brings life to rich culinary traditions, from the enhanced smoking presentation of dry ice sashimi and the sweet and spicy medley of sauces with a re-imagined duck spring roll.
  • Pool Grill Voyaging to the world’s most beautiful destinations means taking in spectacular landscapes, and the Pool Grill allows you to pair panoramic views with tasty lunches and casual dinners. Food tastes better when dining al fresco and gazing upon a Mediterranean harbor, Norwegian fjord, or Brazilian coastline. Indulge in regional barbecues or freshly grilled fish of the day and treat yourself to perfect milkshakes and hand-dipped ice cream desserts.
  • Prime 7 A handsome décor of glass, metal and marble will conjure images of walking a red carpet as you enter Prime 7, but you’ll save the accolades for the cuisine, which elevates classic American fare to new heights. The mouthwatering prime New York strip, porterhouse and succulent filet mignon are always aged perfectly and cooked as you like, while orange-pomegranate and tamarind-whiskey sauces redefine classic dishes like scallops and smoked salmon.
  • Sette Mari at La Veranda Wherever you’re voyaging, you’ll never be far from enjoying perfectly prepared Italian dishes in stunning, over-water alcoves. Choose from authentic Italian specialties inspired by family recipes that span generations, or opt for something with a modern twist like a spice-crusted tuna steak with braised endive, polenta and salmoriglio. Savor it all with a perfectly paired Tuscan wine as you watch stars shine on the ocean below.

Join us for an evening of unforgettable acoustic covers and innovative reimaginations of Broadway hits, old and new. Including unique stories behind the creation of these hit musicals, this concert-style review will allow you to experience the best of Broadway in a whole new way. A foray into iconic music spanning multiple generations, Icons delivers a marvelous sampling of hits featuring beloved headliners like Adele, The Pointer Sisters, Hall & Oates and more.

An energetic and enthralling experience, Ignite the Night will invite you into a world that feels reminiscent of modern classics like American Idol and Dancing with the Stars , with the excitement of something new.

An adventure into seafaring legends, Marauder's Ball sails into excitement with a marvelous mix of modern musical performances and folkloric sea shanties. Prepare to be swept away on a high seas journey you won't soon forget.

A celebration of the Tango, Pasión reflects the vibrant heart of this iconic dance through a performance accompanied with an interplay of modern hits and dynamic vignettes.

You’ll find time spent on board the ship to be just as enriching as time ashore. Relax by the pool, compete in a friendly game of trivia or bocce ball, indulge in treats at afternoon tea and gain insight from an expert lecturer.

All the clubs and golf balls you need are available. Who knows? Maybe you’ll return home from your voyage with a few kinks worked out of your golf swing...
  • INFINITY-EDGE PLUNGE POOL Surrounded by an inviting teak-deck terrace filled with plush, partially covered lounge chairs, our refreshing Infinity-Edge Plunge Pool is a perfect place to soak and take in dramatic views, as the pool contours to the stern of the ship.

All the equipment you need is nearby, the court is completely screened and the surface is immaculate. Whether you find yourself in a tense match or something more leisurely, you and your fellow players will be enjoying fresh ocean air and fantastic views from high atop your ship.
  • Pool Bar When you envision the type of activity you’re only likely to do while on vacation, sipping a frozen drink at a pool bar onboard a glorious cruise ship is probably near the top of the list. You can tick that box at our Pool Bar, where you and new friends can enjoy leisurely conversation over cocktails and frozen drinks in a delightfully relaxed atmosphere.
  • Pool Deck If it’s a day by the pool you desire, our Pool Deck is one of the most elegant at sea. Outfitted in teak accents, it features a lavish pool and two whirlpools in a blissful setting. Lounge the day away under the warm sun or read a book in a shady nook with an amiable and dedicated crew on-hand to bring refreshing beverages and plush towels.
  • Putting Green While the Golf Net is meant to help you improve your fairway swing, our Putting Greens are less about self-improvement than group fun as your ship travels from one destination to another. A popular pastime is gathering friends after an afternoon cocktail and heading to the top deck of Seven Seas Splendor® for a spirited competition as twilight approaches and a delicious dinner in one of our stellar restaurants looms.
  • Shuffleboard This isn’t the sleepy version of shuffleboard. From high atop Seven Seas Splendor®, you’ll be enchanted by ocean vistas stretching horizon to horizon as you engage in a game that dates back to 15th-century England. All equipment is well-maintained and available for use – all you have to do is bring a team, or perhaps join one in need of a player.
  • Sports Deck You may visit our Sports Deck after a relaxing visit to Serene Spa & Wellness™ to jog a few laps around our track or practice your fairway golf swing. Then again, you could head up to Deck 12 after an afternoon cocktail to take on new friends in games of bocce ball or paddle tennis. Whatever you do, you’ll enjoy the freshest ocean air and vistas you’ll never forget.
  • The Study In an atmosphere that’s reminiscent of a personal library in an elegant, stately home, Regent Suite guests may gather in The Study to privately dine on meals from the adjacent Chartreuse and Prime 7 restaurants. Challenge friends to poker and blackjack or cheer on your number at the roulette wheel. Find your way to our Casino through stylish glass doors – and may Lady Luck treat you kindly.

This guest favorite is many things: a hallmark, a much-loved hideaway, an elegant gathering place for good conversation and bonhomie. Aboard  Seven Seas Splendor ® it’s also a modern space with oversize leather armchairs and signature works of art placed tastefully throughout. Stop in and test the conversational waters over a fine cigar or fine cognac, both available for purchase. As you would guess, smoking is permitted here.

  • Constellation Theater Plush seating and pleasing sightlines make every seat a great seat in our state-of-the-art show hall. Stretching two decks, the Constellation Theater boasts lavishly staged, high-energy shows created and produced by our own team of Broadway choreographers and directors. Sit in comfort or get up and dance to stories brimming with romance, intrigue, singalongs – even a tear-jerking tribute to the days of disco.
  • Meridian Lounge Elegantly appointed and comfortably furnished, this sleek lounge is a showstopper, with an expansive bar serving your favorite cocktails. Warm lighting and sophisticated ambiance are integral to its charm, but its vibe is the intangible draw. Meet for a drink before a show at the Constellation Theater or to continue your unforgettable evening with performances by resident musicians afterwards.
  • Observation Lounge Our fleet abounds with spectacular suites, restaurants, and lounges, but the Observation Lounge on Seven Seas Splendor® is truly magical. It offers staggering views as the ship enters and leaves ports of call, but its interior is lush with upholsteries inspired by the fluidity of flower petals, giving it the feel of a sunlit English garden. At night, a whimsical chandelier and hand-painted glass screens work in tandem with a cocktail pianist to perfect the scene.

See Four Seasons' upcoming ultra-luxury cruise with a $350,000-a-week suite bigger than most homes

  • Four Seasons says it will begin sailing an  ultra-luxury yacht cruise in January 2026.
  • The 222-guest vessel would have 95 spacious suites and 11 dining options — but food wouldn't be free.
  • The largest suite would have four floors and bedrooms, a spa, and a price of $350,000 per sailing.

Insider Today

Four Seasons plans to expand its high-end hotels and resorts portfolio with a luxury 222-guest cruise ship.

The company says the 95-suite vessel will debut in January 2026 and cost a minimum of $20,000 per weeklong sailing.

For that price, the luxury hospitality giant says travelers would enjoy a one-to-one guest-to-staff ratio and massive suites spanning as many as four floors. If all goes as planned, the 679-foot-long Four Seasons I could become one of the most expensive and opulent options in the cruise industry.

The ultra-plush 14-deck Four Seasons I is scheduled for 19 voyages in 2026 to more than 130 Caribbean and Mediterranean ports.

Reservations opened two weeks ago. Those interested can register to join a waitlist or book through a travel agent.

So far, "sales have been very encouraging, and the demand is exciting to see," Thatcher Brown, chief commercial officer and head of joint operations for Marc-Henry Cruise Holdings, told Business Insider in a statement. The company is a joint owner and operator of Four Seasons Yachts.

Renderings make the Four Seasons I look as opulent as the brand's land-based properties.

Four Seasons says its vessel will have 95 suites ranging from 537 to 9,975 square feet, some with three bedrooms.

The smallest suite starts at $19,700 for a five-night roundtrip voyage to Athens, Greece.

No windowless interior cabins here: Like other ultra-luxe cruises, the suites would all have terraces and floor-to-ceiling windows.

Customers could expect upscale amenities like a walk-in closet, down-filled duvets and pillows, and marble dual vanity bathrooms, per Four Seasons.

The most premium suites would also feature additional accommodations for "personal assistants," such as au pairs or security personnel.

Some options, like the 7,952-square-foot Loft Suite, could be adjoined with seven other cabins to accommodate up to 20 people.

Without connecting cabins, the Loft Suite would already have three bedrooms and bathrooms, a powder room, and a sauna.

Others, like the largest Funnel Suite, would have its own spa and kitchen.

Four Seasons says the 9,975-square-foot mansion, partially perched in the ship's glass-lined funnel , will span four floors, four bathrooms, three bedrooms, and three powder rooms.

Not to mention the private elevator, pool, and $350,000-a-voyage price tag.

Accommodations of this price and size are generally unheard of in the cruise industry.

Luxury operator Silversea says the largest suite on its upcoming 728-guest Silver Ray will be 1,324 square feet. Competitor Regent Seven Seas' new Seven Seas Grandeur debuted in 2023 with a more expansive six-guest 4,443-square-foot option.

Both suites' sizes and prices — Regent's starts at $42,000 per person for a total of $252,000 at maximum occupancy — would be stunted by Four Seasons' promise of a 9,975-square-foot, $350,000 floating mansion.

But cabins with six-digit prices aren't unheard of.

While not a luxury cruise line, Royal Caribbean's popular three-floor townhouse on the new Icon of the Seas is being booked at an average of $100,000 a week — although it's about four times smaller than Four Seasons' largest.

Royal Caribbean and other mass-market cruise lines are beloved, in part, for their unlimited complimentary food options.

luxury cruises from los angeles

Regent Seven Seas' all-inclusive fare also covers caviar, foie gras, and Champagne.

But don't expect any of these to be free on the Four Seasons I.

Breakfast would be complimentary. Lunch, dinner, and booze would not.

The vessel's 11 restaurants and lounges would be priced similarly to Four Seasons' on-land properties. (A dinner entrée at its resort on the Caribbean island of Nevis — also one of the ship's destinations — ranges from $34 to $163.)

The pricing structure may sound odd to most cruise traditionalists. (Hey, at least WiFi would be "free.")

luxury cruises from los angeles

But some of the ship's amenities could look familiar: Like most cruise liners, the Four Seasons I would have a pool, spa, and clubs for children and teens.

The company also promises a lounge and marina that will open onto the water, giving guests direct access to activities like snorkeling or windsurfing.

Four Seasons Yachts plans to take delivery of its $399 million vessel, now being built by famed Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, in late 2025.

luxury cruises from los angeles

A second Fincantieri-built ship would join the hospitality company's fleet the following year. The next vessel would cost more than 400 million euros, about $429.2 million, Four Seasons says.

This isn’t Four Seasons' first foray into itinerary-based vacations.

The company has also found "tremendous success" in its private jet-based "cruises," Alejandro Reynal, the president and CEO of Four Seasons, told BI in a statement.

Its 2024 vacation-by-air itineraries started at $135,000 for a 16-day Asia tour. Demand has been growing, he said, "signaling that luxury travelers are looking for immersive, exclusive, end-to-end travel journeys that allow them to explore the world with their favorite brands."

But its new ultra-luxe cruise arm would be entering an increasingly crowded luxury market, soon to be dominated by like-minded hospitality giants.

luxury cruises from los angeles

High-end Aman Resorts and Orient Express plan to launch their own luxury cruises in 2027 and 2026, respectively.

Staying ahead of the competition, Ritz-Carlton debuted its first 149-suite Evrima yacht cruise in 2021, with a second 224-cabin ship scheduled to begin sailing later this year. Its least expensive itinerary is currently $5,100 per person for a six-night voyage from Barbados to Puerto Rico in early 2025.

Interested in a hotelier-owned vacation at sea but don't want to pay the luxury price tag? Margaritaville's cruise is an affordable $75 for two nights.
