MYTHIC Reboot — Dynastar M Tour 99 Touring Ski Review

Butter with a little suncrust on top — the M-Tours excelled in variable conditions thanks to the full sidewall, rockered tip and tail and hybrid core.

Fans of Dynastar skis rejoice — the brand long known for hard charging, high performing skis has brought its performance approach to lightweight touring. The Dynastar M-Tour 99 is a fully featured ski that joins a growing collective of mid-waist skis built for downhill prowess with a minimal weight penalty.

The M-Tour 99 closely follows the shape of its slightly heavier, much loved predecessor, the Mythic, but the Tour construction places it in its own class. It features a hybrid core — a combination of lightweight paulownia and PU reinforced with basalt fiber. This keeps the ski weight down (1200g for the 162cm length I tested), while adding dampness and stability to avoid the hard snow chatter that commonly plagues lightweight touring skis.

It has a full sandwich construction and full sidewall, allowing for precision, balance and grip. Both the tip and tail are rockered with a slight shovel in the tip. Tails are flat and good for buttering.

The tip rise certainly helps with floatation in deep snow, but it does detract from the effective edge. Personally I didn't notice this often, though the tips felt a bit superfluous on hard snow.

I wanted a fun and playful powder ski that wasn’t cumbersome in its waist or weight. I’d heard good reports on the Dynastar Mythic , which the M-Tour 99 promised similar attributes to. Stable, playful, and damp all sounded like ideal characteristics for a backcountry ski that charge on less than ideal snow days. I also spend the majority of my time on sub 1000g touring and race skis and was curious to see if the M-Tour really cut chatter the way it claimed it could.

The 162cm is the smallest offered (also available in 170, 178, 186) and was an ideal length for my 5’5”, 120lb figure and advanced/expert skiing abilities. The tip rise does detract from effective edge, though I never found myself wanting for more length.

Uphill and downhill performance

My first day on the M-Tour was a midwinter powder morning in Marble. We started before dawn, shuffling up the steep skin track by headlamp. It was cold that morning, single digits, and my feet felt it but the road to the trailhead was covered in a half foot of fresh snow and that meant the bowl, 2300 feet above, would be deep and soft. The M-Tours were easy underfoot, their mass not dissimilar to the DPS Cassiar 95 Tour 1 I usually ski (mounted with the same Dynafit ST Radical binding and paired with Dynafit TLT 8 boot on that particular outing. I also tried the M-Tours with the Fischer Transalp and Scarpa F1 LT ).

At 1200g for the 162cm, the Dynastar M-Tour 99 isn't the lightest touring ski but it's relatively svelt for the performance it packs.

By the time we reached the usual regroup spot 600 feet below the summit, the sun had risen but its warmth and rays were obscured by cloud. Wind pulsed out of the west, loading more snow onto our objective and so we opted to tone down the ambition and descend soft glades from the regroup spot.

I’m always a little timid when taking a first turn on a ski I don’t know but I quickly discovered I didn’t need to be with the M-Tours . The skis arced gracefully on the soft snow, floating just enough and rebounding energetically from turn to turn. I was impressed at how promptly I could snap the tails around to finish a turn with style and then drive the ski for a long slow arc on the next one. It was akin to playing an instrument — listening to the notes struck by a little pressure here, backing off there, and finding what the ski needed to make a harmony.

Days like those in Marble were most notable on the M-Tour 99s . The ski seems to shine most brightly in soft snow that is not so deep it leaves me wishing for more float. That said, I was impressed on other days out when conditions were variable — hard, steep bumps in Highlands Bowl, sun crust and wind board on long tours in the Elks. The skis were noticeably damp and sturdy when snow turned hard or chunky. And I did not miss the chatter I’ve come to anticipate in lighter skis.

I was also impressed with how well the ski held an edge in more consequential and steep hardpack. I could easily whip the planks around for jump turns and then open up the throttle on open slopes in less ideal snow.

Solid edge stability showed up reliably in the M-Tours, as here, dropping into Daly Peak on hard, icy snow.

Solid edge stability showed up reliably in the M-Tours, as here, dropping into Daly Peak on hard, icy snow.

While most of my outings with the M-Tours were remarkably pleasant, I did notice a couple of shortfalls worth mentioning.

The playful energy I discovered on my powder day in Marble does not translate into tight maneuverability. In thick, tracked-out trees midwinter, I found the skis arduous and sluggish if I tried to push the speed envelope. They did not want to do the fast work of edge to edge tree swerving around obstacles, or at least I couldn’t quite push and release them in a way that felt resonate.

Similarly, I often found that if I got lazy and popped into the backseat ever so slightly, the arcing turns became unmanageably long and it was all too easy to feel like the ski was running away from me. Some degree of diligence was required to keep my weight centered and my body actively working the skis. Unlike some skis (the Cassiars, for instance) the M-Tours aren’t so forgiving if you get sloppy. The performance rewards are worth it though for skiing well.

Additionally, the Sintered HD bases weren’t as durable as I would hope. I’m coming out of the season with a handful of deep gouges that’s surprising for how few rocks I remember encountering.

I love the flashy underside of the M-Tours. I love less how easy they were to scratch up.

Comparisons

The M-Tour 99 is in line with other mid-weight touring skis that prioritize performance over mass while keeping things light weight. They fall into an emerging freetouring category for hard charging skiing in a variety of conditions similar to the Scott SuperGuide 95 , Volkl Rise Beyond 98 and Dynafit Beast 98.

Paired with the Dynafit Radicals, the M-Tour 99 offered versatility and more.

Paired with the Dynafit ST Radicals, the M-Tour 99 offered versatility and more.

Final thoughts

The Dynastar M-Tour 99 do what we often want out of mid-waist planks — the skis float adequately and handle a variety of conditions (mostly) gracefully while not weighing you down on big climbs and long outings. In the right conditions though, the ski does offer something more — a rare sensation of elegance and deftness. It is an ideal fit for the emerging majority of ski tourers who want to ski hard on gear light enough for multiple laps, and have fun doing it.

Review Summary

What do you think about this product?

November 22, 2023

Bravo, Dynastar. Bravo

It can be hard for a dedicated touring ski to give you the same joy and pleasure as a true alpine ski. I thought skiing a 122 waisted Nocta in Japan would be the peak for me. I was wrong. Getting these sticks on the top of a line in true corn...magic. I've enjoyed these on Colorado pow days, Colorado crud, and high peak skiing in variable conditions and this ski handled it all. It's light, so you heavy snow folks, idk, I got nothing for ya. If you're in the rockies, enjoy.

This ski is amazing

Does everything well, especially for the weight. Top sheet could be a little tougher but the bases take rocks well and no serious damage after two seasons of use. I think these skis are not given enough attention for how good they are. Ski these at a 186, I find them to be stable at speed, hold an edge well, and can make short turns in tight spots very easily.

Great blend between uphill and downhill performance

Got the M Tour 99 in 2021/22 ski season as a much-needed replacement in my quiver. As far as I can tell it looks like the same ski as the 2022/23 version just different graphic, I put a pair of Market Duke PT 12 on the ski, I know some of you just cringed reading that, but I’m 6’3 210 lb of American Cheddar and I like to ski hard. Touring – This ski is a pleasure to climb with, it’s a very balanced ascend. Light enough to save the legs on long climbs. The effective edge is fairly long which is great for stability on switch backs across hard/ice sections. The even profile and fuller tail makes breaking trail after a big storm very manageable. The only negative is after a season of use and abuse, the top sheet is fairly scratched up. Just a cosmetic detail, not really a big deal to me. Skiing – I was surprised how well this ski handled crud and variable snowpack. As many of you know, day out in the backcountry can change from ideal to not great pretty quick. I was happy to have M tour 99 under my feet through the most of it. Doesn’t get as knocked around as other touring skis I have been on which is a huge plus. Surprisingly stiff for a touring ski as well, love that. On more ideal snow conditions this ski is a lot of fun. Corn snow is a blast, easy to open it up, or keep it tight through pinch points. Easy to control and reliable when turning up the volume on speed. In powder its fun, hard to have a bad time in powder though, so no surprise here. Chopped up soft stuff is also great, easy to hop, pop and bounce through, very even and predicable flex. If you take it resort side, very groomer capable, this ski has a preference towards GS turns inbounds. That being said, any good skier will be able to arc however you wish. Overall – Yeah, I would recommend. It’s a great blend between uphill and downhill performance. Afterall, we climb all that way to have fun on the way down.

The best touring ski I ever had

I bought the skis last year, and it was immediately my favorite Allrounder. Only for mixed tours with climbing I use a shorter ski. This weekend I went ski touring, but due to lack of snow, I went down a ski pist. I was amazed how well they ski on hard/icy pists as well.

[DEEP DIVE] Dynastar M-Tour 99 Review

m tour dynastar

Featured Image: Drew Clark

m tour dynastar

The idea for the M-Tour was simple—to avoid the twitchy, nervous feel that plagues so many backcountry-focused skis and create something more akin to its alpine-specific counterparts. Utilizing its factory on the backside of Mont Blanc, Dynastar tested and developed the M-Tour 99 in the big-mountain mecca of Chamonix and around the greater French Alps, resulting in a mid-sized ski with a surprisingly low weight penalty. While its shape is akin to the popular tapered and versatile Mythic, the construction is totally new, keeping the ski’s weight low while adding dampness and stability.

For a brand known for its heavier, hard-charging builds, creating a versatile touring ski was no small feat. “We have spent over two years finalizing the M-Tour 99 using feedback from Compagnie Des Guides in Chamonix and our athletes; mostly Vivian Bruchez,” says Laurent Richard, Dynastar’s global brand director. “They were looking for a light freetouring product that had a longer turn radius for fast and steep run outs, and that could pivot quickly in tight couloirs. We experimented with various combinations of materials in order to reduce vibrations as much as possible, especially in the tip of the ski, to deliver better snow contact in all the different snow conditions encountered on the mountains and glaciers.”

In designing the M-Tour 99, Dynastar wanted to give skiers the ability to power up the ski, drive and accelerate through the turn, whether it was navigating spring corn or mid-winter conditions. Dynastar engineered this ski to put you in the captain’s seat with its Hybrid Core, a proprietary mix of paulownia wood and polyurethane.

In the core of the M-Tour 99, the wood gives the ski its power, energy and pop and the molded polyurethane delivers predictability in the feel of the ski from tip to tail, quieting it and absorbing vibrations while maintaining responsiveness. In order to meet the downhill demands of its top athletes, Dynastar also reinforced the ski with a lightweight basalt fiber weave. This ski offers everything you’d expect out of a mid-sized, all-mountain ripper: sufficient float and the ability to nimbly juggle a variety of conditions from chop and chunder to ice while not weighing down the skier on long climbs and big days.

We’ve all witnessed the dramatic increase in sidecountry and backcountry skiing, necessitating lighter-weight equipment to travel farther and faster without sacrificing stability and confidence on the downhill. This isn’t a unique problem for Dynastar–solving this inverse relationship and meeting the demands of the modern freeride athlete is the biggest challenge for any high-end backcountry ski maker. No small feat indeed.

Dynastar aimed for the perfect on-snow feel with their favorite line of Touring skis. The M-Tour 99 is built with the Hybrid Core, which is Paulownia wood for rebound and energy mixed with Polyurethane sections for damping and a smooth flex. The result is a great all-around touring ski that can float in powder and showboat on hard snow. Using Adaptiv sidecuts, the 99s are easy to manage into turns and don't lock you into the turn. Directional rocker means you can stay above soft snow while enabling accurate steering. Dynastar is about the only ski company using Basalt fibers wrapped around its core, improving the feel over glass or carbon while keeping the weight down. If you're looking for a do-it-all backcountry ski that you can ski with confidence, look no further than the Dynastar M-Tour 99.

  • Hybrid Paulownia / Polyurethane makes for a damp-yet-light core.
  • Basalt fibers wrap the core and add torsional rigidity and energy.
  • Directional rocker is surfy and easy to initiate turns in deep snow.
  • Adaptiv sidecut is a medium radius, easy-to-steer geometry.
  • Full sidewall construction enhanced durability and edge hold.
  • HD sintered bases offer some rock protection with great glide.

Update 2022/23: New topsheet and base colors, plus an "F-Team" affiliation have been added to this ski.

Dynastar, Lange, & Look Announce 24/25 Skis, Ski Boots, & Bindings

2024-2025 Dynastar Skis, Lange Ski Boots, and Look Bindings | Blister discusses all the new products

Dynastar, Lange, & Look have all announced several new products for the 2024-2025 season, spanning a wide range of product categories. (The three brands are all part of the Rossignol group, hence the simultaneous announcement.)

We began spending time on some of the new gear last week at Blister Summit 2024, and we’ll be posting Flash Reviews for BLISTER+ members in the near future. For now, let’s dive into the details:

Dynastar, Lange, & Look Announce 24/25 Skis, Ski Boots, & Bindings, BLISTER

2024-2025 Dynastar Hybrid Core 2.0 Skis

The big news for Dynastar is that they’re switching many of their skis to their new “Hybrid Core 2.0” construction that they debuted in the 23/24 M-Cross skis . For the 24/25 season, Hybrid Core 2.0 will be featured in the Speed 4×4, M-Cross, E-Cross, M-Tour, M-Tour W, M-Pro, M-Pro W, and M-Free ski collections.

Dynastar reportedly developed Hybrid Core 2.0 with both performance and sustainability as priorities. Here’s what Dynastar says about it:

“Dynastar’s innovation is found in a new wood layer design (placing them in three directions instead of just one: longitudinally, vertically, and transversally), to replace the mechanical properties provided by composite materials such as glued fiberglass, reducing the proportion of this material in the ski while improving Dynastar’s unique skiability.

This innovation resulted in a reduction across all 6 main environmental indicators measured as part of the Life Cycle Assessments* carried out when comparing traditional skis and equivalent ones (in terms of performance and use) with Hybrid Core 2.0 construction.”

As with the previous Hybrid Core, the Hybrid Core 2.0 skis feature a combination of wood and polyurethane (PU).

2024-2025 Dynastar Skis, Lange Ski Boots, and Look Bindings | Blister discusses all the new products

Check out the above graphic from Dynastar to see how that reduced environmental footprint breaks down in the case of the new M-Pro 100 Ti (compared to the previous  M-Pro 99 , based on Dynastar’s Life Cycle Analysis).

Dynastar, Lange, & Look Announce 24/25 Skis, Ski Boots, & Bindings, BLISTER

2024-2025 Dynastar M-Pro Ti & M-Pro W Skis

Dynastar’s “Traditional Freeride” collection sees a big update for 24/25, including four brand-new models.

The M-Pro 94 Ti and M-Pro 100 Ti are totally new shapes, as are the skis that mirror them in the women’s collection, the M-Pro 92 W and M-Pro 98 W. The M-Pro Ti skis and M-Pro W skis share similar shapes, rocker profiles, and cores, but the “Ti” versions add a partial layer of titanal metal, similar to the one used in the 23/24 M-Pro skis.

From a shape perspective, it looks like Dynastar has reduced the early tapering at the skis’ tips, widened their tips and tails a bit, and correspondingly tightened their stated sidecut radii (e.g., 18 meters for the 186 cm M-Pro 100 Ti vs. 22 meters for the 186 cm M-Pro 99 ). They also reportedly made the tails slightly more rockered and more tapered.

The M-Pro 108 will return constructionally unchanged for 24/25, but with new graphics.

Here’s what Dynastar says about the new M-Pro W skis:

“The skis in the new M-Pro W range are traditional freeride models designed for skiers of all proficiency levels, but featuring a new structure, namely a tail with more rocker to ensure easier pivoting and produce a more playful ski, without compromising the traditional stability of the M-Pro range. These French-made skis are engineered to help women skiers push the boundaries, carve their own tracks and feel alive, free and confident. Harnessing the eco-designed Hybrid Core 2.0 technology, the new M-Pro 92 W and M-Pro 98 W models have been designed for intermediate to expert women skiers.”

And here’s what they have to say about the new M-Pro Ti skis:

“Produced in France, the skis in the M-Pro range are traditional freeride skis incorporating a new structure that reinforces the front and rear rocker for even greater fun and easier pivoting without losing any power underfoot or compromising the renowned stability of the M-Pro range. The new M-Pro 100 Ti and M-Pro 94 models have been designed for intermediate to expert skiers and feature the eco-designed Hybrid Core 2.0 technology.”

Dynastar highlighted the M-Pro 100 Ti and M-Pro 92 W in their press release, so here are some of the stated specs for those skis:

2024-2025 Dynastar M-Free Skis

Similar to what they tweaked in their more directional M-Pro series, Dynastar’s “Progressive Freeride” series also gets some new models. The M-Free 99 and M-Free 90 return with new graphics but the same construction, while the M-Free 108 gets the new Hybrid Core 2.0 treatment and some new length offerings.

This will be great news for those who felt caught between the previous 10-cm gaps for the first-gen M-Free 108 . The 24/25 M-Free 108 will be available in 162, 170, 178, 185, and 192 cm lengths. Dynastar doesn’t appear to have made drastic changes to the rest of the ski; for the 192 cm length that’s shared between the original and new versions, the stated dimensions (138-108-128 mm), stated sidecut radius (20 m), and stated weight per ski (2250 g) are all the same.

The other news is that Dynastar is replacing the previous M-Free 118 with the brand-new M-Free 112 . The M-Free 112 is reportedly quite similar to a ski from Dynastar’s sister brand, the Rossignol Sender Free 110 , in terms of shape, mount point, and rocker profile. But the M-Free 112 uses completely different ingredients, including a Hybrid Core construction.

Here are the stated specs for the new model:

2024-2025 Dynastar M-Tour Skis

The 23/24 Dynastar M-Tour 108 was one of the first skis to get the Hybrid Core 2.0 treatment so it carries over with new graphics for 24/25, but Dynastar is also adding a new model to the collection, the M-Tour 100.

2024-2025 Dynastar Skis, Lange Ski Boots, and Look Bindings | Blister discusses all the new products

As you might guess, the M-Tour 100 is based on the new M-Pro 100 Ti platform but uses a notably lighter version of Dynastar’s Hybrid Core 2.0 layup to reportedly achieve a very low weight of 1400 grams per ski for the 186 cm length. Most of the other M-Tour skis will carry over into 24/25, aside from graphic updates.

2024-2025 Lange RS & XT3 Ski Boots

On the boot side of things, the big news is that Lange has overhauled their longstanding RS series of race-oriented and race-inspired boots.

Visually, the most obvious change is a return to a lighter shade of blue that Lange has become known for (following the recent, brief switch to a much darker blue ).

The two big performance-oriented updates include a new exterior shape and buckles for improved aerodynamics, and a new flex-adjustment system.

2024-2025 Dynastar Skis, Lange Ski Boots, and Look Bindings | Blister discusses all the new products

Lange’s “Air Flow” concept showcased in the 24/25 RS boots is the result of a collaboration with the Formula 1 Sauber-Alfa Romeo Racing team and their wind-tunnel testing capabilities. This led Lange to tweak the shape of the outer shell and buckles to reportedly reduce the coefficient of friction and reduce air drag.

Lange’s new “Race Flex Adjust” tech consists of a PU and carbon-injected plate at the spine of the boot (replacing the typical 2 bolts there) and is meant to “enhance energy transmission between the shell and the cuff.” Rather than remove bolts from the spine to achieve a softer flex pattern, the new RS models let you swap in a “PU 53” version of the plate that reduces the stiffness by a stated 8%, but, according to Lange, it does so “without creating play or energy loss.”

Lange also says that they refined the RS liners, including a “a microfibre external and minimal seams.” They also tweaked the lacing system to “maximise the connection and closure of the liner.” Lastly, they placed “specific thermoformable paddings on the ankles for greater customization.”

Lange’s 2024-2025 RS collection follows a similar breakdown as in year’s past. The RS “World Cup” boots are their lowest-volume offerings; the RS “Race Peformance” boots feature a roomier and more anatomical 97mm- or 100mm-wide last; and the RS “Race Short Cuff” boots feature, as you might guess, shorter cuffs for smaller skiers. Here’s the full model breakdown:

RS “Race World Cup” Collection: WORLD CUP RS ZC WORLD CUP RS ZB WORLD CUP RS ZA WORLD CUP RS ZJ+ WORLD CUP RS ZA+ WORLD CUP RS ZSOFT + WORLD CUP RS 140

RS “Race Performance” Collection: RS 130 LV/MV RS 120 LV RS 110 LV/MV

RS “Race Short Cuff” Collection: RS 120 SC LV RS 110 SC LV RS 100 WIDE SC MV RS 90 SC LV RS 70 SC LV

Lange also made subtle tweaks to some of their free-touring XT3 Free series; they get new colorways and the 130 and 140-flex models reportedly get new “booster-style” power straps.

2024-2025 Dynastar Skis, Lange Ski Boots, and Look Bindings | Blister discusses all the new products

2024-2025 Look Pivot 2.0 Bindings

Lastly, we’re getting an update to one of the most iconic alpine bindings on the market, in the form of the new Look Pivot 2.0.

The 24/25 Pivot 2.0 is offered in a 15 and 18 DIN version (in a new “Blue Steel” colorway), and while the all-metal toe pieces of those bindings remains essentially the same, Look has made the following updates (bulleted copy from Look):

  • Added an angle to the arms connecting the heel piece to the turntable, which makes them more adjustable for different BSL’s and slightly easier to step into.
  • Replaced the flathead in the heel with a Pozidriv screw for easier DIN adjustments and less risk of stripping
  • Reinforced heel pieces with rubber bumpers to prevent heel pieces getting damaged by ski edges
  • New 105 mm brake width added

I.e., Look seems to have avoided messing with a proven design, but the subtle updates they did make seem sensible. The Look Pivot 12 and Pivot 14 are reportedly unchanged for 24/25, aside from graphics, and Look still includes the original Look Pivot 15 and Pivot 18 in their 24/25 catalog.

31 comments on “Dynastar, Lange, & Look Announce 24/25 Skis, Ski Boots, & Bindings”

Obviously, the people will want a comparison between the Rossi 110 and the Dynastar M-Free 112. That should be interesting.

And hopefully soon

Look should add a ‘Ferrari’ binding colorway as well, that’s visually indistinguishable from ‘Blue Steel’.

Or better still ‘Magnum’. Hopefully somebody gets the reference…

Dear God, it’s beautiful!

But they are the same Look…

The 112 change seems weird – now they have no real powder ski and an overlap problem with the 108.

That’s a good point.

Any mount point info for the Mfree 112? in the 190 cm length this interests me as a resort powder ski.

We haven’t measured one yet but it looked similar to the Sender Free 110; my guess would be around -3 or -4 cm from true center. More centered than the M-Free 108, and substantially more so than the M-Free 118 (which was definitely the most directional of the M-Free skis).

Luke is right, on the 190 M-Free 112, it is -3.5 cm’s from center.

M-Pro 100 Ti has similar dimensions and lack of taper to the OG Nordica Enforcer plus a rounder tail for less “grab” in the bumps. Could be a real ripper on and off piste!

Is the new 185 M-Free 108 actually a longer ski than the current 182? I ask because the current 182 M-Free 108 and 185 M-Free 99 measure the same length, but they have called one a 185.

Ha, I thought the same thing, but when I skied it, the 24/25 185 cm M-Free 108 definitely felt like a different ski vs. the original 182 cm M-Free 108 (the new 185 was notably more stable and less ultra-surfy). I’ll be posting a Flash Review w/ more details in the near future, and we’ll get measured lengths ASAP.

@Luke – thanks! I’m dying to know how long the 185s actually are. Have you been able to measure a pair?

Not yet, but it felt considerably more composed at speed than the original 182 cm version. That ski skied pretty short, even compared to other similarly rockered and tapered skis, whereas the new 185 felt like it skied pretty true to its length (for its class; it felt a bit shorter than something more directional, like the 186 cm M-Pro 99).

Lots of interesting changes here. Like Patrick I do wonder whether they knowingly or unwittingly called it Blue Steel. Having said that, looks a lovely colour with the right ski – my pink Ranger 102 FR’s have blue Tyrolia’s and look great (sadly, doesn’t improve my skiing though). In my quest to be a better skier I confess I have never thought about the aero dynamicism of my boots…

Disappointed to see the M-Free 118 go, never skied them but had the impression from the review that they offered something different. I sometimes ski the mountain that Richard Permin calls home and you see lots of people on the 118’s with the Miami Vice topsheet. Assume though that they just don’t sell enough and the 112 continues the trend of skis at the extremes getting narrower. Agree with Rory that it’s close to the 108 so wonder if next season that will change to a 104 or 105? At least Dynastar got rid of the restaurant bathroom faux marble topsheets (I know, I know it’s trees)

Does the M-Tour 100 replace the M-Tour 99? I would presume so.

That looks like a lot of sidecut. 15 m radius on the 183? That is a bit disappointing. I think that much sidecut detracts from ski performance in certain touring situations, especially in steep, firm terrain where you’re making jump turns and sidecut is often your enemy. Also not great for crusty/punchy snow. It seems to be a departure from the current M-Tour line with narrower shovels and longer radii.

I guess who really knows until lots of folks get time on snow…

Looks can be deceiving… (I do love my Pivots)

Pivots are a mans best friend. Those icey steel blue Pivy’s are sexy. I am going to the dark side for a bit however and am going to try some Strive 16 mn’s. I’m such a whore. Lovin on those 112 dim’s.

You guys are glossing over the biggest news! A metal cup in the heel piece of the Pivot 2.0 so you don’t take giant chunks out of it when using your pole to get out of them.

I am genuinely excited about his as I hate how that gets so scratched up.

I hope to pay > $2k to get Lange banged, cuz I love these boots but hate end of day

when can i give my money to these people

Wonder if there is a notable difference between the M-free 108 185, the 192 and the M-free 112 190?

M free 99 still in the lineup ?

Yep, the M-Free 99 carries over unchanged (just a graphic update) for 24/25.

Just tried the 24/25 M-Free 99’s in a 185 last weekend in Engelberg, enjoyed them a great deal, felt quite lively to me, lot of fun on cut up pistes and set-up off piste

Also tried the M-Free 112 in a 183, did feel short in front and reading the comments above now know why! Should have tried the 190, but ran out of time.

M-Free 108 or new Icelantic 106 for next year? Luke help choose? lol

Hey guys, do you plan to release a flash review of the new M-Free 108s and/or 112s prior to them going on sale?

Was hoping they’d have more info on the MFree 112 as well as a comparison to the Sender Free 110

Unlikely on the M-Free 112, unfortunately, and we didn’t end up getting a 108 for long-term review this season, so we don’t have much time on either. However, I spent a day on the new 185 cm M-Free 108 at the Summit and it felt very similar to the original 192 cm M-Free 108, just in a shorter package. I.e., it seemed to do a good job of filling the very broad gap between the original 182 and 192, feeling more similar to the longer ski and not as super-surfy and twitchy as the original 182 cm. We should be doing long-term reviews on both next season.

MONSTA X's I.M Gets Real on His First Solo World Tour, the Present Moment and Not Caring What Others Think (Exclusive)

The 'Off The Beat' K-pop solo artist talks about gearing up for his first solo world tour

m tour dynastar

There’s no process more natural for I.M than writing music.

That’s because the 28-year-old K-pop rapper strips away the artificials, like pre-planned lyrics or a thought out message, and looks inward to see what’s beneath.

Like writing a diary entry with its limitless stream of consciousness, he brain-dumps anything and everything. What’s he thinking and feeling in the moment is a given. Then, he’ll go one step further and draw from his senses, like what he’s wearing or eating.

What results is a collection of songs that capture a time capsule of who he is at the moment — a solo artist fresh off the release of his third, six-track EP, Off The Beat , and gearing up for his first-ever world tour of the same name.

Sony Music Entertainment Korea Inc

Right before chatting with PEOPLE on a late evening, I.M’s finishing up a small, sugar-cube infused Korean snack, dressed in a classic black T-shirt with a silver wristwatch. It’s still a few days before he makes the world tour announcement, and consequently, his intense training process.

Naturally, he’s excited to meet his fans as a solo artist across 18 cities in Europe, North America and Asia. At the same time, that’s also what makes him a little nervous — talking to them by himself, as a self-described “not talkative” person.

Previously, when touring as a member of the six-piece K-pop group, MONSTA X , the “X0” singer never needed to worry about doing anything alone. Every performance was a balancing act, a moment of sharing the stage. But now, as the sole member of MONSTA X set to travel the globe, all eyes are on him to “LURE” fans with his rhythmic hip-hop sound.

As I.M thinks about what this means for his ever-changing identity, he’s quick to notice the way his mindset has changed and shifted since his trainee days.

Before joining the leading third-generation group, I.M explains how he had to fight to secure his place amongst other young hopefuls.

“It’s really like the program name, ‘NO.MERCY,’” the “MMI” singer says to PEOPLE. “It ain’t mercy. But now, it’s just me. I can control that time, and it’s not a survival.”

“Of course, it could be a survival just between myself,” he adds.

With anyone, an internal battle almost seems unavoidable. There’s the creeping self-doubt that sometimes arises, or the inner engine to keep going into OVERDRIVE . There might also be comparison to a past version of yourself — a DUALITY , which shares the same name with I.M’s solo debut in 2021.

When comparing himself to that past music time capsule of his, the singer almost seamlessly switches between third and first person.

“When I listen to DUALITY , I feel what he was thinking and what he was trying to do at that moment,” the singer says. “I can find some, ‘Oh, he could do much better than that right now,’ but at that time, I tried my best.”

“I try to put my 100%, no — maybe 200%, in the music, the moment what I’m doing right now,” he continues, with a nod to his recent EP release. “Compared with that, to this album? I’m better than him.”

Present-day I.M’s avant-garde persona focuses on fashion almost as much as it does music. Every song has a noticeably distinct visual and vibe, and that’s the first gut instinct he’ll grasp onto when creating. When he’s not strutting on the runway with some of the biggest high-end luxury brands, he’ll wear something black — a “simple, but fancy” outfit.

Though his fashion sense has remained consistently classy, his existential sense of the “real” him wasn’t always so clear cut. Back in 2016 and 2017, the “nbdy” performer was still trying to define his “real” self, throughout all the busyness of debuting with MONSTA X. Now, he’s realized he doesn’t need to identify with any definition outside of just himself and who he is.

“I just don’t care about what people think of me, like ‘Oh, the guy from MONSTA X. Oh, the rapper, oh, the long-haired guy, oh, big-nose guy, the nice voice guy,’” he says, adding in hand gestures that come naturally to him when he speaks. “I don’t really care because the real me is every moment of me, and I still don’t know what I am, but I’m sure that I know me.”

“This might sound a bit strange, but I think that’s the reason why I’m doing music — to find myself, to write it down myself,” he continues. “Because this time is just this time. Today is just today.”

Though I.M’s fully in tune with the present and future, he’ll still occasionally allow himself a trip down memory lane. In fact, he might just strut down that lane once more when he arrives at his Boston stop on tour — the city that he lived in for three years and moved to from Israel. It was there as an elementary school student when gained a deeper understanding of music and processed the lyrics of what he was listening to, like “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong , he tells PEOPLE.

“Musically, Boston means a lot to me,” he reflects. “And I still remember the elementary school name, so maybe if I have some day off, I’d like to visit.”

With any of the 18 cities, there’s one thing in particular he’s looking forward to trying, and he hints at it in a lyric:

“Sip me like a wine / I’ll treat you right / Pour it more ‘till we slip the floor,” he sings in “LURE,” with a voice just as suave as wine.

With all the wine, beer and food tasting he’s looking forward to, there’s no doubt that the tour will present a lot of change for I.M on top of a whirlwind career. However, change is a constant that doesn’t scare him.

“I don’t try to take it seriously because when the time passes and when you think about the past, it’s just a tiny thing,” he explains. “I believe even if there’s a dangerous moment or that I’m anxious about something, I just think about the future because I bet I’m going to get over that.”

The same thought process applies to his age, and at 28, it seems like I.M isn’t planning on slowing down anytime soon.

“Well, the best part — I’m the youngest and the only twenty-something guy in this group,” he says as the group’s maknae, before a chuckle escapes his mouth. “There’s no bad part. I mean, everything is good.

“Everything is the best to me right now,” he adds. “I am enjoying the group, enjoying this moment, my day and I’m going to enjoy the tour. I’m excited for the next step, and I’m excited for my future even if I don’t know.”

Off The Beat is now available to stream.
