Isra Miraj: The Night Journey Of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

isra-miraj

Isra Miraj is one of the most notable events in the religious history of Islam, in which Isra and Miraj are two chapters of the night journey taken by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) around the year 621. Certain events that took place during Isra and Miraj are explained in brief in the Quran.

The Story of Isra and Miraj

In Isra – the first part of the night , Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) journey began when he was in the Great Mosque in Makkah where angel Jibreel and angel Mikal came to him and brought Buraq (a creature in Islamic tradition said to be a transport for certain prophets). The Prophet travelled to Al-Aqsa Mosque in Buraq within a second. Anas Ibn Malik narrates that angel Jibreel offered Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) a glass of milk and a glass of wine, setting eyes on what he would choose. The Prophet drank milk which resulted in passing the special test as he chose the drink that was healthy and pure for him rather than the one that is prohibited on earth.

In Miraj, the second part of the Journey , Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) ascended to seven stages of heaven with the angel Jibreel. In each stage, the Prophet met and spoke to different prophets. At the first stage, he met Adam who is described as a tall and handsome man with long hair by Ibn Ishaq. In the second stage, he met Yahya (John the Baptist) and Isa (Jesus) ; after that he met Yusuf (Joseph) in the third stage who is described to be winsome like the moon. Then the Prophet met Idris (Adris) in the fourth stage, and after that Harun (Aaron) in the fifth stage who was described as the most beautiful man that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) encountered. In the sixth stage, he met Musa (Moses) who is described to be distinctive from other prophets. Lastly, he met Ibrahim (Abraham) in the seventh stage who resembled Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) pointing up to be his father who was seen leaning on the lote tree known as Sidrat-Al-Muntaha.

What is Sidrat-Al-Muntaha?

Sidrat-Al-Muntaha

It is a huge Sidr tree as well as the end of the seventh heaven. According to Islamic beliefs, this is the boundary no one ever passed except Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) along with angel Jibreel. This is where Allah told Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) that Muslim believers were to enrol in prayers 50 times a day. The Prophet accepted the offer but as he was going back to the earth, he met Prophet Moses who advised that 50 prayers were too much for a day. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) went back to Allah and requested to reduce 50 prayers as it was too much. Allah reduced 5 prayers and made it 45 prayers a day. But according to Prophet Moses, it was still too much. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) took nine trips between Moses and Almighty Allah and after that, it was finally reduced to 5 times prayers a day. Prophet Moses continued to ask for the reduction in numbers, but Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said that he was too guilt-ridden. Moreover, he is grateful for 5 prayers a day.

What is Lailat al Miraj?

lailatul-miraj

Celebrated on the 27th of Rajab, Lailat-Al-Miraj is a Muslim holiday in the event of Isra and Miraj. It is also known as Mehraj-Ul-Alam and Shab-e-Miraj . Lailat-Al-Miraj meaning and history recognize it as the day when Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) ascended to all the seven stages of heaven. It is believed that this was the day when an angel visited and Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) chest was opened and it was purified with Zamzam water . Later his heart was filled with sagacity and belief. The day is celebrated differently by various Muslim countries. Most Muslims do not fast on this day since the exact day is not known. Food and treats are served after Salah (prayers performed by the Muslims).

How to celebrate Lailat al Miraj?

Lailat al Miraj is the day when Muslims remember the holy night of Isra Miraj. It is marked by congregation prayers in mosques. Prayers can be performed at home as well, followed by celebration meals. Some Muslims also light candles to mark this special day. At home, elders of the family share the story of Isra and Miraj with the young to ensure that the legend as well as the tradition is passed on to the generations to come. Some people also recite night time prayers for Shab-e-Miraj. Fasting on Lailatul-Miraj is optional but not common. It is said that if someone fasts on this day, they will be safe from Qabr ka Azab, which means the azab of the grave. They will also be safe from Dozakh, or the fire of hell. Hence, Huzur Sallalahu Alaihi Wa Salam recommended fasting on the two days of Shab E Meraj.

Abu Huraira reported: On the night of the Ascension, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was presented with two vessels, one full of wine and the other full of milk. The Angel Gabriel, upon him be peace, said, “All praise is due to Allah who has guided you to that which is natural, for had you selected the wine your nation would have been led astray.”

Malik ibn Sa’sa’ah reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, told them about his Night Journey, saying, “We ascended until we reached the second heaven where Gabriel asked for the gate to be opened, but it was said: Who is it? Gabriel said: I am Gabriel. It was said: Who is with you? Gabriel said: It is Muhammad. It was said: Has he been called? Gabriel said yes. When we reached beyond the second heaven, I saw John and Jesus who are cousins. Gabriel said: These are John and Jesus, so greet them with peace. I greeted them with peace and they returned my greeting, saying: Welcome, O righteous brother and prophet.”

Table of Contents

Isra and Miraj Story Summary

The date was the 27th of Rajab in the year 721 (Sad year – ‘aam ul-huzn) when Abu Talib and Khadijah (RA) died.

About Isra and Miraj, it is being mentioned in surah al-Isra. In Isra, the first part of the night, Jibrael came to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and then he rode on the Buraq, which is larger than a donkey and smaller than a mule. On buraq he traveled from Makkah (Masjid al-Haram) to Al-Aqsa Mosque in just a second, to be noted, the distance between these two destinations is 1239.42 KM and takes around 1 hour and 52 minutes if you travel by Airplane, but our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) completed it in just a few seconds.

Now, in the other part of the night, which is Miraj, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) traveled to the 7th heaven, and in each heaven, he met the following people;

  • 1st Heaven met Adam (AS)
  • 2nd Heaven met Isa (AS) and Yahya (AS)
  • 3rd Heaven met Yusuf (AS)
  • 4th Heaven met Idris (AS)
  • 6th Heaven met Haroon (AS)
  • 6th Heaven met Musa (AS)
  • 7th Heaven met Ibrahim (AS)
  • Baitul Ma’mur
  • Sidrat Al-Muntaha (Where 50 prayers were enjoined on him, then reduced to 5.)

What is Baitul Ma’mur?

It is a house, which is located in the 7th heaven, directly above the Kaaba (Allah’s house). Angels perform the tawaf of this house as we do around the Kaaba during Hajj and Umrah, the Kaaba on the earth is the replica of it. The 70,000 angels visit this house daily and say their prayers as well as it will continue until the day of Judgement. ( Sahih al-Bukhari 3207 and Sahih Muslim 164 )

What is Sidrat Al-Muntaha?

It is a Lote tree and it is the end of the 7th heaven. It is the boundary that no one ever passed except our Prophet (PBUH) and it is the place where the Prophet (PBUH) traveled along with Jibrael, where Allah cuts down 50 prayers to 5 upon the request of Muhammad (PBUH).

What is Isra and Miraj?

Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) had a miraculous journey from Mecca to Jerusalem and the heavens. This journey is known as Isra and Miraj in Islam. It has two parts: the night journey (Isra) and the Ascension (Mi’raj). During the night journey, He (SAW) travelled with the angel Jibril (Gabriel) on a winged horse called Buraq and prayed at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem with other Prophets (Peace be upon them). In the Ascension, He met a different Prophet at each level of heaven. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) also witnessed many wonders and signs of Allah Almighty.

In another blog, we discuss the What is Shab-e-Barat?

Isra and Miraj in the Quran

The journey of Isra and Miraj holds great significance in Islamic history and is mentioned in the Quran.

Surah Isra verse of the Quran gives the first piece of evidence about Prophet Muhammad (saw) Night Journey, Lailat al Miraj:

quran verses that describe Shab e Meraj, Al Isra wal Miraj

Glory be to the One Who took His servant Muḥammad by night from the Sacred Mosque to the Farthest Mosque whose surroundings We have blessed, so that We may show him some of Our signs. Indeed, He alone is the All-Hearing, All-Seeing. (Quran 17:1)

The second piece of evidence about Shab e Meraj is from the Quran.

Surah Najm Verses 13-18

And he certainly saw that angel descend a second time. At the Lote Tree of the most extreme limit in the seventh heaven. Near which is the Garden of Eternal Residence. While the Lote Tree was overwhelmed with heavenly splendours. The Prophet’s sight never wandered, nor did it overreach. He certainly saw some of his Lord’s greatest signs. (Surah Najm verses 13-18)

The Prophet (SAW) was sleeping near the Kaaba when he was awakened by Angel Jibril (SAW), who opened his chest, took out His heart, and washed it with Zamzam water . Then, he brought him a white beast called Al-Buraq, faster than lightning. The Prophet (SAW) mounted Al-Buraq and travelled with Jibril (SAW) to Jerusalem, where he led all the Prophets in prayer at al-Masjid al-Aqsa.

Isra and Miraj in Hadith

The following Hadees tells us about Shab e Meraj, the story of Al Isra wal Miraj:

Hazrat Anas bin Malik (RA) narrated that:

“On the Night of Isra, fifty prayers were made obligatory upon the Prophet. Then it was decreased until it was made to five. Then it was called out: ‘O Muhammad! Indeed My Word does not change; these five prayers will be recorded for you as fifty.'” ( Jami’ Tirmidhi 213)

Narrated by Hazrat Abu Huraira (RA):

Allah’s Messenger (SAW) was presented with two cups one containing wine and the other milk on the night of his night journey at Jerusalem. He looked at it and took the milk. Gabriel said, “Thanks to Allah Who guided you to the Fitra (i.e. Islam); if you had taken the wine, your followers would have gone astray. (Sahih Bukhari 4709)

Narrated by Hazrat Anas ibn Malik (RA):

The Prophet (SAW) said: When I was taken up to heaven I passed by people who had nails of copper and were scratching their faces and their breasts. I said: Who are these people, Gabriel? He replied: They are those who were given to back biting and who aspersed people’s honour. Abu Dawud said: Yahya b. ‘Uthman has also transmitted it from Baqiyyah, there is no mention of Anas in it. (Abu Dawood 4878)

Gifts Conferred During the Night Journey

During the Night Journey, the Prophet (SAW) went beyond Sidrat al-Muntaha and entered the Divine Presence of Allah Almighty. Allah (SWT) gave him three gifts: the Five Daily Prayers , which were initially fifty but reduced to five after Hazrat Musa’s ((AS) advice; the promise that whoever believes in Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala and His Messenger will have their sins forgiven; and the last two verses of Surah al-Baqarah, which protect from all evil.

Story of al-Isra and Miraj

Prophet Muhammad (SAW) made this Miraculous journey, Shab e Meraj, in the month of Rajab. Al Isra wal Miraj occurred during the Year of Sorrow , often known as a year of sadness and suffering. The loss of his beloved wife, Hazrat Khadija (RA), and his beloved uncle, Hazrat Abu Talib (AS), in that year led the Prophet (SAW) to experience great hardship.

In addition to all of these difficulties, Ta’if’s residents cruelly rejected the Prophet (SAW) when he visited the city to teach Islam, sending their kids out into the streets to stone him until he left. So Allah (SWT) presented him with a gift.

Isra – The First Part of the Night Journey

In the eleventh year of his prophethood, Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) experienced a remarkable journey. Angel Jibril (AS) visited Him while He was asleep in the house of Hazrat Ummy Hani (RA), who happened to be His cousin. Hazrat Jibril came at night; that is why it is called Shab e Miraj . While He rested, Angel Jibril (AS) took the Prophet (Peace be upon Him) on a spiritual journey, which began at Masjid Al-Haram, the sacred site of Kaaba. At Masjid Al-Haram, Jibril (AS) performed a miracle by opening the Prophet’s (SAW) chest and taking out his heart. He then washed it with Zamzam water, blessed water from a well near the Kaaba. After washing it, he put the heart back in its place. This made the Prophet’s (SAW) heart pure and strong for the journey of Al Isra wal Miraj.

Then, Jibril (AS) brought a horse for the Prophet (SAW) to ride. The horse was called “ Buraq ,” and it was a white animal that looked like a mix of a mule and a donkey. But it was not an ordinary horse. It had wings, and it could fly faster than lightning. Buraq swiftly carried Prophet Muhammad (SAW) from Makkah to Masjid Al-Aqsa in Jerusalem. This is another sacred mosque that Prophet Sulaiman (AS) built.

Leading Prayer during Isra and Miraj

The journey was quick, and even as He travelled, the Prophet (SAW) knew everything along the way. He saw many signs of Allah Almighty’s power and mercy. He also saw some of the Prophets who had passed away. For example, He saw the messenger Hazrat Musa (may Allah have mercy on him) praying in his grave. Finally, the Messenger of Allah (SAW) reached Masjid Al-Aqsa in Jerusalem. He found a great gathering of all 124,000 Prophets (AS) who had ever lived there. They were waiting for Him on Miraj Night with respect and love. Angel Jibril (AS) led the Prophet (SAW) to the front, and He (Peace be upon Him) led them all in prayer in this blessed mosque. This was a great honor for Him and a sign of His high status among all the Prophets (AS). SUBHANALLAH!

Miraj – The Second Part of Al Isra wal Miraj

In the second part, Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) was taken up by Jibril to the first heaven. There, they were asked by a gatekeeper who they were and who they had with them. Jibril replied that he was Jibril and that he had Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) with him, who was invited by Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala. The gatekeeper opened the gate and let them in. In the first heaven, Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) met Hazrat Adam (AS), the first human being and Prophet. He greeted him, and Adam (AS) welcomed him as his son and a Prophet.

Then, they ascended to the second heaven, where they met Hazrat Isa (Jesus) (AS) and Hazrat Yahya (John)(AS). Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and angel Jibril then mounted to the third heaven, where they met Hazrat Yusuf (Joseph) (AS), the son of Jacob. They ascended to the fourth heaven, where they met Hazrat Idris (Enoch) (AS), who was raised to a high position by Allah. Then, they ascended to the fifth heaven, where they met Hazrat Harun (Aaron) (AS), the brother of Hazrat Moses (AS). They ascended to the sixth heaven, where they met Hazrat Musa (Moses) (AS), who spoke to Allah Almighty directly. They ascended to the seventh heaven, where they met Hazrat Ibrahim (Abraham) (AS), the friend of Allah (SWT). All of these Prophets greeted Prophet Muhammad (SAW), and they welcomed Him as a Prophet.

Read our other blog on the Jannah – The Reward for True Muslims .

At the seventh level, he also saw Sidrat al-Muntaha , a large lote tree that marks the end of creation. There, Jibril stopped and told Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) that he could not go any further but that the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) had to continue on his own. So, this was the most vital moment on Al Isra wal Miraj.

In our other blog, we also discuss the Concept of Jahannam in Islam .

Shab e Meraj – Why we Pray 5 Times a Day

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) entered the presence of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala, who spoke to Him directly without any intermediary. Allah Almighty told Prophet Muhammad (SAW) that he had ordained fifty prayers daily for his people. As Prophet Muhammad (SAW) descended from the presence of Allah (SWT), he met Hazrat Moses (AS) again in the sixth heaven. Prophet Moses (AS) asked him what Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala had ordained for his people. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) told him that Allah Almighty had ordained fifty prayers daily. Hazrat Mosa (AS) said this was too much for his people, and they could not perform it. He advised Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to return to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala and ask for a reduction. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) agreed, returned to Allah Almighty, and asked for a reduction. Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala reduced the prayers by five.

The Decree To Five Prayers

Prophet Muhammad (SAW) returned to Moses (AS) and told him what happened. Moses said this was still too much for his people, and they could not perform it. He advised Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to return to Allah and ask for another reduction. After each reduction, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) consulted Mosa (AS), who suggested further reductions until the prayers were set at five a day. Mosa (AS) continued to advise additional reductions, but Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) felt reluctant to ask for more and accepted Allah’s final decree. Despite concerns, he hoped his people could manage the five daily prayers. The command for praying five times a day is one of the three gifts of Miraj.

When he reached His presence, Allah Almighty commanded Prophet Muhammad (SAW) to perform five daily prayers. After thanking Allah (SWT), he returned to Mecca with Jibril. The event is known as Shab-e-Meraj or Al Isra wal Miraj, and it took place on the 27th of Rajab. It is considered the second-greatest miracle after the revelation of the Quran.

Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala then said that He had decreed the five prayers a day for Prophet Muhammad’s Ummah but would reward them as if they had performed fifty prayers daily. He said He would not change His word or return on His promise. SUBHANALLAH

Al-Isra' wal-Mi'raj: The Story of the Miraculous Night Journey

miraj journey prophet muhammad

Al-Isra’ wal-Mi’raj (the Night Journey & Ascension) is a miracle second only to the revelation of the Qur’an , and it is therefore important that we don’t let this night slip by without reflecting on its lessons and its significance.

Many of us only know the basic story of Al-Isra’ wal-Mi’raj - that the Prophet (saw) was transported from al-Masjid al-Haram to al-Masjid al-Aqsa , from where he (saw) ascended to heaven. In fact, there were many stops along this incredible journey, and the story is packed with wonders and miracles. This blog will narrate the first half of the Miraculous Journey and we have included as much detail as we could. Enjoy!

Context of Al-Isra’ wal-Mi’raj

Al-Isra’ wal-Mi’raj took place during a time when the Prophet (saw) was facing intense hardship and pain. The Quraysh, who were his tribe and his family, constantly ridiculed, humiliated and oppressed the Prophet (saw) and his followers. Moreover, the Prophet (saw) had just faced the Year of Sorrow (‘Aam al-Huzn) , during which he (saw) lost his beloved wife Khadijah (ra), and his uncle Abu Talib, who was his protector and ally.

In addition to all these burdens, when the Prophet (saw) had travelled to Ta’if to spread the Islamic message, the people of Ta’if had rejected him in the most cruel way , sending their children into the streets to stone him until he left the city.

Having gone through so much grief and suffering, the Prophet Muhammad (saw) was given a truly beautiful and comforting gift. He was transported not only to the Sacred Sanctuary and through the skies, but ultimately into the Divine Presence, the source of all comfort and hope. One of the most important lessons of Al-Isra’ wal-Mi’raj, therefore, is that ‘with every hardship [there will be] ease’ (The Noble Qur’an, 94: 5).

Al-Isra’: From the Ka’bah to Al-Aqsa

When the Prophet (saw) was sleeping in the house of Umm Hani (ra) in Makkah he said, ‘the roof of my house was opened and the Angel Jibril [as] descended’ (Bukhari). Scholars reconciling between various narrations, say the Prophet (saw) was then taken to the Hijr, the semi-circular wall of the Ka‘bah, where the Prophet (saw) said that Jibril (as), ‘opened my chest, and washed it with Zamzam water. Then he brought a golden tray full of wisdom and faith, and having poured its contents into my chest, he closed it’. [Bukhari]

The Prophet (saw) continued, ‘I was then brought a white beast which is called al-Buraq [from the Arabic word barq, meaning lightning], bigger than a donkey and smaller than a mule. Its stride was as long as the eye could reach’. [Muslim]

It is narrated by Anas (ra) that Buraq was, ‘saddled and reined, but he shied from him (saw). So Jibril [as] said to him, “Is it from Muhammad [saw] that you do this? For nobody has ridden you who is more honourable to Allah than him!” He said, “Then he started sweating profusely”’. [Tirmidhi]

At several points along the journey, Jibra’eel (as) stopped Buraq and told the Prophet (saw), ‘Dismount and pray’. The first stop was at ‘the place of emigration’ i.e. Madinah - and soon after this night the Prophet (saw) would meet the Ansar and migrate to Madinah. The second stop was at Mount Sinai , where Allah (swt) revealed the Torah to Musa (as). The third stop was at Bethlehem , where ‘Isa (as) was born.

The fourth stop was the grave of Musa (as),  ‘I happened to pass by Musa [as] on the night of my Night journey by the red sandhill whilst he was standing praying in his grave’ (Muslim). We know that his grave is located, ‘a stone’s throw’ away from the holy land of the Blessed Masjid Al-Aqsa (Bukhari). This incident clearly shows us an example of what the Messenger of Allah (saw) said about Prophets (as) after they pass away that, ‘The Prophets are alive in their graves praying’ (Abu Ya‘la).

Arriving at Al-Aqsa

Finally, the Messenger of Allah (saw) arrived in the holy city of Al-Quds (Jerusalem) and he said, ‘When we reached Bait al-Maqdis [literally ‘the holy house’ another name for the Blessed Masjid Al-Aqsa] Jibril (as) pointed with his finger causing a crack in the rock, and he tied the Buraq to it [at the western wall of the noble sanctuary]’ (Tirmidhi). Waiting inside were all 124,000 Prophets (as). Jibra’eel (as) led the Prophet (saw) to the front, and he (saw) led them all in prayer in this blessed space.

Some narrations indicate that the Prophet (saw) prayed ‘two units of prayer’ (Muslim) to greet the Masjid (known as Tahiyyat al-Masjid). This is one of the first examples of this established Sunnah of the Prophet (saw). It is also mentioned that Jibril (as) called the Adhan (call to prayer) before this practice was even established later in Madinah and that the angels from the heavens descended to pray behind all the Prophets in this sacred place – Subhan-Allah!

When the Prophet (saw) completed the prayer, he said, ‘someone said, “Here is Malik (as), the keeper of the Hell, so convey Salams to him”. So, I turned to him, but he preceded me in Salams’ (Muslim).

The Messenger of Allah (saw) also said, ‘The Prophets were presented to me, and Musa (as) was a thin man, it was as if he was from the men of Shanu’ah [a Yemeni tribe]. And I saw ‘Isa ibn Maryam (as), and the closest of the people in resemblance to him from those I have seen, is ‘Urwah ibn Mas‘†d (ra). And I saw Ibrahim (as), and the closest of the people in resemblance to him, from those I have seen, is your companion [meaning himself]. And I saw Jibril [as], and the closest of the people in resemblance to him, from those I have seen, is Dihyah (ra)’ (Tirmidhi).

Part of what the Prophets (as) discussed after praising Allah was about ‘the Hour’. Both Ibrahim (as) and Musa (as) stated that they ‘did not have any knowledge of it’. Whilst ‘Isa (as) ‘mentioned the Dajjal (anti-Christ) and said,

“I will descend and kill him, then the people will return to their own lands and will be confronted with Gog and Magog, who will, “swoop down from every mound” [Qur’an, 21:96]”’. [Ibn Majah]

Following this, the Prophet (saw) said, ‘Then I came out and Jibril (as) brought me a vessel of wine and a vessel of milk. Then I chose the milk, and Jibril (as) said, “You have chosen the natural state (Fitrah)”’ (Muslim).

The dominant opinion is that the Prophet (saw) alongside Jibril (as) then proceeded to the Noble Rock (as-Sakhrah al-Musharrafah) that is currently housed by the holy Dome of the Rock Masjid at the centre of the noble sanctuary (al-Haram ash-Sharif) of the Blessed Masjid Al-Aqsa. He (saw) ascended into the heavens for the next part of this incredible journey, the Mi‘raj, the Ascension!

Layla-tul-Miraj: The Miraculous Night Journey

For those who do not believe in the reality of miracles, are clearly unaware of our Holy Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) life and its incidences. Islamic history is a prime witness to these miracles. And one of the greatest miracles of his time was that of Layla-tul-Miraaj , the night of the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) ascent to the Heavens. It is known to have been not only a spiritual journey but a physical one as well. This journey signifies the greatness and importance of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in Allah’s (SWT) eyes. The night this year in 2019, falls on between 3rd and 4th April 2019.

This night is also known as the event of “ Isra and Miraj ” which essentially denotes two parts of the journey. Isra, which means ‘walking in the night’, refers to the first part of the Prophet’s (PBUH) journey from Makkah  to Masjid Al-Aqsa . The Holy Prophet (PBUH) was visited by the angel Jibrael and was carried to Masjid-al-Aqsa (in Jerusalem) on “ buraq ”, the steed of the prophets. Allah (SWT) verifies the truth of this journey in the Quran as well:

“Exalted is He who took His Servant by night from al-Masjid al-Haram to al-Masjid al-Aqsa, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Seeing.” ( Surah Isra:1 )

The second part of the journey is known as Miraaj , which in the literal sense means “ ladder ”, and it alludes to the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) ascension to Heaven itself. From Jerusalem, the Prophet Mohamad (PBUH) was then transported to Paradise on his steed, where he roamed all seven levels of paradise and met a number of the prophets who had come before him, which included Hazrat Adam (AS), Musa (AS), Isa (AS), Yahya (AS), Yusuf (AS), Ibrahim (AS) and many others. Upon reaching Sidra-tul-Muntaha in the seventh heaven, a tree marking the very end of paradise and the beginning of the abode of Allah (SWT), Jibrael halted as his entry was forbidden and let the Prophet (PBUH) pass. Here, our beloved Prophet (PBUH) got a chance to meet the Almighty and converse with Him. It is on this night, that the Prophet (PBUH) achieved a state of closeness with Allah (SWT) that is beyond human measure.

Moreover, it was on this occasion that Allah (SWT) on all Muslims enjoined the five daily prayers. It was originally supposed to be fifty daily prayers, but our Prophet (PBUH) beseeched on behalf of his Ummah to make it easier for them and alas, Allah (SWT) brought the number down to five.

Allah (SWT) mentions a few details about the journey in another part of the Quran as well:

“While he was in the highest part of the horizon: Then he approached and came closer, And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. The (Prophet’s) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? For indeed he saw him at a second descent. Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: near it is the Garden of Abode. Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) (His) sight never swerved nor did it go wrong! For truly did he see of the Signs of His Lord the Greatest” ( Surah Najm :7-18)

The sole purpose of the Holy Prophet Muhammad's (SAW) miraculous journey to the Heavens was an act of declaration about the exalted status of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in the realm of Islam and testified to the irreplaceable position he held in the eyes of Allah (SWT) and His creation.

However, the date of this journey is still unclear as there is no concrete indication in any Sahih hadith for its exact occurrence. It is thought to have taken place somewhere between the Prophet’s visit to Taif and the time of the Hijra, around the 27th of the Islamic month of Rajab , but this date is not officially recognized by Islamic scholars.

Layla-tul-Miraj serves as a witness to Allah’s (SWT) infinite grandeur and power and His bond with His creation. Allah (SWT) sent the Holy Prophet (PBUH) as a gift to His creation, an exemplary figure and role model for every human to look up to. This night marks itself as a test of faith in mankind and enjoins them to believe in the truth of all that Allah (SWT) is and all that only He is capable of.

Layla-tul-Miraj holds great significance in the lives of Muslims across the globe, where the Prophet Muhamad's (SAW) ascension is remembered and the ultimate purpose of it is recollected. It is considered one of the most sacred of miracles of the Almighty Allah, which He chose to bestow upon Prophet Mohammad (SAW) and only him.

The Quran, written centuries ago, contains profound hints at future discoveries. It includes scientific facts that surpass the knowledge of anyone who lived in the 7th century. This serves as compelling evidence of the divine nature of the Quran.

This year, Nisf Shaban (Shab-e-Barat) will start after the sunset of Tuesday, March 7th, 2023.

Isra wal Meraj is a journey of faith and revelation that the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) took from Makkah to Jerusalem and then to the 7th Heaven.

On 27th Rajab, all the Muslim believers celebrate this as a grand day of Mi'raj as "Grand Eid" and all the Muslims should be proud to have such a prophet like Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessing be upon him and his progeny (Ahlul Bayt), to whom Almighty Allah (swt) was also proud and had invited him to visit and talked with very nearer distance as mentioned in the Glorious Qur'an 53:9.

Also note that, the Mi'raj of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessing be upon him and his progeny has taken place more than once. However, it should be mentioned that Mi'raj in which the daily Salat was made incumbent, without doubt, occurred before the death of Hazrat Abu Talib, who passed away in the 10th year of Besat. Unmistakably, from the Ahadith and books of history, it is mentioned that on the night of Mi'raj, Allah (swt) gave the order of the five daily Salat as being mandatory upon the Islamic Nation.

The darkness of the night had spread across the horizon and silence reigned over the face of nature. The time had arrived when the living creatures take rest and sleep so that they might recuperate from their activities of the previous day. Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw), was also not an exception to this law of nature and he wished to take rest after offering his prayers (Salat) in the house of "Umm-e-Hani", the daughter of his uncle and sister of Amir al-Mominin Ali (pbuh) in the blessed city of Makkah. However, suddenly he heard a voice; it was the voice of the Archangel Jibreel/Gabriel (pbuh) who said to him:

"This night you have to perform a very unique journey and I have been ordered to remain with you. You will have to traverse different parts of the world mounted on an animal named al-Buraq (a name derived from Barq, meaning lightning). Where he found an animal smaller than a mule but slightly bigger than a donkey. The animal, which was a quadruped, also had two wings and floated easily as he moved with unimaginable speed.

Journey of Al-Isra

Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessing be upon him and his progeny began his historical night journey, along with the trusted protector of the revelation, the Angel Jibreel (pbuh) from the house of "Umm-e-Hani", with the aide of his steed al-Buraq.

"After some time, Angel Jibreel (pbuh) stopped Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) and said to perform the Salat. Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) dismounted from al-Buraq and performed Salat. Jibreel (pbuh) said, 'Do you know where you just prayed?' Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) replied to him in negative. Jibreel (pbuh) said, 'In Taibah (Madinah), that place where your travelers will go.' After this, Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) got back onto al-Buraq and continued the journey."

"Once again, Angel Jibreel (pbuh) stopped Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) and said, 'Perform the Salat.' Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessing be upon him and his progeny once again dismounted al-Buraq, and performed Salat there. Jibreel (pbuh) asked Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw), 'Do you know where you just prayed?' It is the Mountain of Sinai - the place where Prophet Musa / Moses (pbuh) spoke to Allah (swt)."

"Once again, Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessing be upon him and his progeny ascended al-Buraq and continued. Shortly afterwards, Angel Jibreel (pbuh) said, 'Get down and perform the Salat.' Then again Jibreel (pbuh) questioned, 'Do you know where you just prayed?' Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) replied in negative, to which he answered, In Bait al-Laham (Bethlehem) - the place which is near to Baitul Maqdis and this is the place where Prophet Isa (Jesus) al-Masih (pbuh) was born."

Then they reached Baitul Maqdis, which is located in today's Zionist occupied Jerusalem and is also known as Masjid al-Aqsa (the Furthest Mosque) and Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw), proceeded to tie the reins of al-Buraq to the same ring that the great Prophets (before him) used to tie their animal to. After this Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessing be upon him and his progeny entered the Masjid and it was here that he met Ibrahim/Abraham, Musa/Moses, Isa/Jesus and the rest of the Prophets (pbut). They all gathered around him and they all proceeded to get ready for Salat. Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessing be upon him and his progeny had no doubt that the Salat would be lead by Angel Jibreel (pbuh), however when the lines for the Salat were being formed, Angel Jibreel (pbuh) placed his hand on the shoulder of Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) and pushed forward. Angel Jibreel (pbuh) also took part in the Salat behind him along with the various Prophets (pbut).

Journey of Al-Mi'raj

On the second part of his journey, he proceeded from this spot to the skies (heavens). Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw), then observed the stars and the systems of the world and conversed with the souls of the previous prophets, and also with the angels of the heavens, peace and blessing be upon them all. Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) saw the centre of the tortures and the blessings (hell and heaven) and became fully aware of the secrets of creation, the extent of the universe and the signs of the Omnipotent Allah (swt).

Then Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessing be upon him and his progeny, continued his journey and reached Sidrat ul Muntaha (Beyond this point nobody has access including Angel Jibreel (pbuh)). There he found it fully covered with splendor, magnificence and grandeur, and then he returned back by the way he had traveled. Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw), first came to Baitul Maqdis and then to Makkah. It was daybreak when he dismounted at the house of Umm-e-Hani from al-Buraq which had taken him into space. Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessing be upon him and his progeny related this matter to Umm-e-Hani and the following night, he made it known to the assemblies of Quraysh as well. The word of his travels spread from mouth to mouth amongst all the groups, and now more than ever, the Quraysh were upset (with him).

According to an old tradition, the Quraysh asked the account of its structure, and Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessing be upon him and his progeny, not only described the physical particularities of Baitul Maqdis, rather, he even informed them of the event that took place between Baitul Maqdis and Makkah. Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) said to them that he met the caravan of such and such tribe who lost their camel and he asked them to give him water and Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) drank water from their container. So they asked about the Quraysh caravan and he replied to them that he saw them at Taim. So Quraysh became very excited and it was not long after that the travelers (of that caravan) reported the exact events (as had occurred).

Proof of Isra and Miraj (Shab-e-Mi'raj, Lailat-ul-Miraj) in the Glorious Qur'an:

The Heavenly Journey of Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessing be upon him and his progeny has been straight forwardly explained in two Surahs of the Glorious Qur'an.

In the Surah al-Isra (Surah 17 - also known as Bani Isra'il), it is mentioned:

" Glory be to Him Who made His servant (Prophet Muhammad) to go on a night from the Sacred Mosque (Masjid al-Haram) to the Farthest Mosque (Masjid al-Aqsa) of which We have blessed the precincts, so that We may show to him some of Our signs; surely He is the Hearing, the Seeing." (Qur'an, 17:1)

From this verse, we come to the conclusion that Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessing be upon him and his progeny traveled with his physical body (servant) through the worlds of Ascension. Further, by the greatness of the Hidden Power, Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) was able to complete this journey in a very short span of time.

Allah (swt) starts His speech with the phrase (Subhan) which denotes the fact that Allah (swt) is free from all deficiencies - but He does not stop here. Rather, He makes the ascension the reason for His greatness by saying 'made to travel' (Isra) so that others do not imagine that the means of this journey was through causes of the natural world and with normal, ordinary means of transportation. This would have made his journey something that could have been denied. Rather, this journey was accomplished by relying upon the power of Allah (swt) and His specific and special blessings.

Although this verse states that the start of the journey was from Masjid al-Haram and ended at Masjid al-Aqsa, this does not contradict the fact that Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessing be upon him and his progeny in addition to this trip, also had other trips towards the higher world, since another part of the journey of Ascension of Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) is explained in verses of Surah an-Najm.

From the time Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessing be upon him and his progeny told the Quraysh, 'I saw the angel of revelation (when he received the first revelation) in his original and pure state,' all the Quraysh raised up to mock him. Glorious Qur'an, in response to the thoughts of the ignorant people replies:

"Will you then argue with him about what he saw? He certainly saw him (Jibreel) during his other ascent to the Lote-tree (in the seven heavens) near which is Paradise. When the tree was covered with a covering, (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord." (Glorious Qur'an, 53:12-18)

The object of this grand journey was to make known to Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessing be upon him and his progeny the various aspects of the existence of the great universe.

A person asked our 4th Imam, Imam Ali bin Hussain (as): "Is there a particular place for Allah (swt)?"

Imam Ali bin Hussain (as) replied: "no."

The man said: "Then why did He make his Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessing be upon him and his progeny, journey through the skies?"

Imam Ali bin Hussain (as), replied: "He made him ascend so that he might become aware of the expanse of the universe and see and hear wonderful things, the like of which had not been seen and heard by the eyes and ears before."

Mi'raj (Night Ascension) or Miraj-un-Nabi and Modern Science:

It has been an on going discussion and debate for hundreds of years concerning the method of travel of Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessing be upon him and his progeny during the Mi'raj. Many things have been said regarding this journey and its being physical or only spiritual even though from the Glorious Qur'an and the Ahadith there is no doubt that it was a physical ascension.

However, one problem from the point of view of science prevented some people in believing the reality and thus, the Mi'raj of Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) was recorded as being simply spiritual. Another group went a step further and believed that this complete event was simply a dream and that Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) experienced the Mi'raj during his sleep!

The heavenly journey went against the scientific and natural laws of today such as: the law of gravity of the earth; its speed of travel of 25,000 miles per hour; the weightlessness of an object that is outside of the airspace of earth; the fact that it is not possible to breathe the air that is outside our atmosphere; the various cosmic rays; meteorites and air pressure; and the speed of light that goes at the speed of approximately 300,000 kilometers a second; and other such examples.

Fortunately however, it must be known that through scientific research and investigation, the space scientists of the Soviet Union successfully launched Sputnik I. The world's first artificial satellite was about the size of a basketball, weighed only 183 pounds, and took about 98 minutes to orbit the Earth on its elliptical path, on October 4, 1957. They were able to demonstrate to mankind with ease, that they could overcome such problems as the gravitational pull, cosmic rays, problems with breathing in space, and others, through various technologically designed and built equipment and instruments.

Even today, the space science research is ever increasing and the scientists and researchers are confident that in a matter of time, they will be able to place life on one of the planets in our solar system; just as today, they have opened up the exploration to the moon and the planet Mars.

These scientific progresses and advancements in technology and industry are a clear proof that such a celestial travel (that of Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessing be upon him and his progeny on the night of Mi'raj) is possible and can not be classified as something that was impossible.

Exploring the significance of al-’isrā’ wal-miʿrāj.

Al-’Isrā’ wal-Miʿrāj , or ‘Night Journey and Ascension of the Prophet Muhammad,’ is an event mentioned in the  Quran  that marks a significant milestone in Islamic history. This twofold journey – consisting of visits to Heavens and Earth – highlights the importance of the Prophet Muhammad as Allah’s final Messenger to Mankind. The incident’s profoundly spiritual nature reflects its unique place within Muslim practice and faith. In this blog post we’ll retrace this extraordinary episode to examine how fundamental it remains as a unifying element among Muslims today.

What is the significance of Al-’Isrā’ wal-Miʿrāj?

The Night Journey and Ascension are seen as key events in the life of the Prophet Muhammad, both symbolically and historically. On a spiritual level, they serve to demonstrate the Prophet’s status as Allah’s chosen Messenger on Earth. The Quran states that Allah chose Muhammad to be His final Messenger and entrusted him with preaching His message to humanity. During this journey, it is said that he was taken through Heavens and Hell before being given explicit instructions on how Muslims should conduct their lives according to  Islamic  law.

At a historical level, Al-’Isrā’ wal-Miʿrāj serves as a reminder of the powerful bond that exists between Allah and Mankind. Even centuries after it first took place, its significance as a symbol of faith and devotion remains undiminished. The Isra-Mi’raj serves as a reminder that despite all our differences, we are ultimately united in the belief of one Allah and His message.

The journey is also seen as an example of how Muslims should strive to live their lives according to Islamic principles. In particular, it stresses the importance of remaining humble and devoted to Allah even in times of difficulty or distress. Such teachings can be seen today in everyday Muslim life – from prayer rituals to charitable giving and community outreach.

Al-’Isrā’ wal-Miʿrāj is an event steeped in significance for Muslims around the world and across time. To this day, it remains an important lesson on the importance of faith and humility in our lives. By understanding its spiritual meaning and teachings, we can draw closer to Allah’s will and strive to be better Muslims ourselves. Through this journey, we are reminded that even though our paths may differ, when it comes to faith and devotion, we remain united under one Allah.

What is the story behind Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) night journey to Heaven?

The story of the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) night journey to Heaven, or Isra and Miraj, is a powerful reminder of the Prophet’s status as Allah’s messenger. The event began when an angel (Jibril) appeared to the Prophet in Makkah one night and transported him on a winged creature called Buraq.

Buraq flew the Prophet through different kingdoms until they arrived at Masjid Al-Aqsa in Jerusalem where he met with other prophets that had come before him. From there, Muhammad (PBUH) ascended into the heavens where he was able to receive revelations from Allah directly. In seven steps, he came closer and closer to Allah until eventually, he found himself in the presence of Allah.

During his ascension, the Prophet saw a number of amazing visions and secrets that were revealed to him in order to help him understand the true nature of faith and humanity. After receiving these revelations, he was brought back down to earth where he shared what had happened with his companions.

The story behind Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) night journey to Heaven serves as an example for all Muslims today who strive to follow the teachings of Allah through prayer and obedience. It is also a reminder that just like Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), we too can reach great heights if we stay focused on our spiritual journey. May Allah guide us all! Ameen.

Allah said: “Glorified (and Exalted) be He (Allah) (above all that (evil) they associate with Him),Who took His slave (Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)) for a journey by night from Al-Masjid-al-Haram (at Makkah) to the farthest mosque (in Jerusalem), the neighbourhood whereof We have blessed, in order that We might show him (Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)) of Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.). Verily, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer” [al-Isra’:1] Quran

What lessons did the prophet learn on Al-’Isrā’ wal-Miʿrāj, and how can these be applied to our lives today?

The prophet Muhammad (PBUH) learned many important lessons on Al-’Isrā’ wal-Miʿrāj.

Firstly, he was reminded of the greatness and power of Allah and His ability to do all things.

Secondly, he was taught the importance of prayer, as it is a direct line between humans and their Creator.

Thirdly, through his journey to the heavens, Muhammad (PBUH) was shown that piety will be rewarded in the afterlife and those who are faithful to Allah will have a place in Paradise.

Lastly, Muhammad (PBUH) learned about compassion, mercy and justice for all people regardless of their faith or background.

These same lessons can still be applied to our lives today.

Firstly, we are reminded that Allah is the most powerful and capable of all things. Through prayer, we can maintain a direct connection to Him and ask for guidance in our day-to-day lives.

Secondly, we should strive to be pious and live according to His teachings as this will be rewarded both in this life and the hereafter.

Thirdly, we should practice compassion and mercy towards all people regardless of their faith or background in order to create an equal society.

Lastly, justice should always prevail – no matter what situation or circumstance arises – so that everyone is treated fairly and equally. By following these lessons, we can apply the teachings of Al-’Isrā’ wal-Miʿrāj to our lives today and strive to become better, more pious people.

The experience of Al-’Isrā’ wal-Miʿrāj serves as a reminder to us all that Allah is powerful, merciful and just and we must strive to live our lives according to His teachings. May Allah grant us the strength and wisdom to do so. Ameen.

By understanding this event and reflecting upon it, we can be reminded of the importance of prayer, obedience to Allah’s commands and striving for closeness to Him. We also remember that it was through Muhammad (PBUH) that we were given access to all of these spiritual gifts and promises from Allah, as well as enlightenment on what He expects from us as His servants.

First, we can use the knowledge of Al-’Isrā’ wal-Miʿrāj to increase our understanding and appreciation for the mercy, power, and greatness of Allah (swt). Through this journey, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was able to experience firsthand His Lord’s Presence. This event serves as a reminder that Allah is present in every moment–even when it may not seem like it. Additionally, reflecting upon the spiritual significance of Al-’Isrā’ wal-Miʿrāj also helps us to cultivate humility within ourselves since the Prophet himself experienced such humbling moments while on his night journey.

Second, recognizing the importance of Al-’Isrā’ wal-Miʿrāj can help us to better recognize and appreciate the value of prayer. During his journey, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was able to ascend beyond Earthly boundaries to reach a level of spiritual connection with Allah (swt). Isra and Miraj, two significant events in Islamic history, hold profound importance in the hearts of Muslims worldwide. These events, as described in the Quran and authentic Hadith, recount the miraculous night journey and ascension of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to the heavens. The phrase “Isra and Miraj” refers to the Night Journey and Ascension, showcasing the unparalleled connection between the Prophet and Allah.

Isra – The Night Journey:

The journey began when the Angel Jibreel (Gabriel) brought the celestial steed Buraq to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in Mecca. The Prophet mounted Buraq and, accompanied by Angel Jibreel, embarked on a celestial journey. The Quran describes this extraordinary event in Surah Al-Isra (17:1):

“Exalted is He who took His Servant by night from the Sacred Mosque to the farthest mosque, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Seeing.”

The “farthest mosque” is commonly interpreted as Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, emphasizing the sanctity of the city in Islam.

Miraj – The Ascension:

Following the Night Journey, the Miraj refers to Prophet Muhammad’s ascension through the heavens. This aspect of the journey is highlighted in the Quran as follows:

“For he certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. Have you considered Al-Lat and Al-Uzza? And Manat, the third – the other one? Is the male for you and for Him the female? That, then, is an unjust division.” Surah Al-Najm (53:13-18)

These verses underscore the Prophet’s witnessing of divine signs and reinforce the oneness of Allah.

Authentic Hadith on Isra and Miraj:

The Hadith literature provides further details about this miraculous journey. One such narration is found in Sahih al-Bukhari, where Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) recounts the events, describing the encounters with other prophets and the breathtaking sights in each heaven.

Hadith on the Night Journey:

Narrated by Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:”Then I was made to ascend to the lowest heaven, and asked for the gate to be opened, but it was asked, ‘Who is it?’ I said, ‘Muhammad.’ It was said, ‘Has he been called?’ I said, ‘Yes.’ When I reached the gate, it was said, ‘Who is it?’ I said, ‘Muhammad.’ It was said, ‘Has he been called?’ I said, ‘Yes.’ The gate was opened for me, and I saw Gabriel, who said, ‘This is your brother, Gabriel.'” Reference: Sahih al-Bukhari, Book 54, Hadith 429

Hadith on the Ascension:

Narrated by Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:”Then the group of prophets came and I saw Moses, Jesus, and Abraham, and I was told about the other prophets between them and me. Then I was raised up to the second heaven, and Gabriel asked for the gate to be opened, but it was asked, ‘Who is it?’ Gabriel answered, ‘Gabriel.’ It was asked, ‘Who is accompanying you?’ Gabriel replied, ‘Muhammad.’ It was said, ‘Has he been called?’ Gabriel said, ‘Yes.’ When we reached over the second heaven, I saw Yahya (John) and Isa (Jesus) who were cousins. Gabriel said, ‘These are John and Jesus, so greet them.’ I greeted them and they returned the greeting saying, ‘Welcome, O Pious Brother and Pious Prophet!'” Reference: Sahih al-Bukhari, Book 54, Hadith 429

Conclusion:

Isra and Miraj stand as a testament to the Prophet Muhammad’s unique and honorable position in Islam. The events symbolize the Prophet’s closeness to Allah and serve as a source of inspiration and reflection for Muslims worldwide. The Night Journey and Ascension reinforce the importance of faith, prayer, and submission to the divine will, offering believers a spiritual journey that transcends the earthly realm.
