Oceania Cruises is a high-end cruise line with a reputation for excellent dining and the ability to visit a wider variety of ports because its ships aren’t as large as the typical cruise liner.

Oceania Cruises, part of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, launched in 2002. It focuses on travelers who want more privacy and personalized service when they sail. Oceania sits between its two sibling lines — the higher-end Regent Seven Seas and family-friendly Norwegian — when it comes to ship size and prices.

Here’s what you need to know about Oceania.

About Oceania Cruises

Oceania Cruises sails to all seven continents and visits more than 600 ports in more than 100 countries. The line recently introduced a new base fare, which includes round-trip airfare and Wi-Fi.

Cabin types: The cruise line offers cabins at various prices, ranging from inside staterooms to oceanview rooms with furnished balconies. Suites are also available in a variety of sizes. Oceania ships have a concierge level, which gives passengers access to a private lounge and concierge assistance.

Main U.S. routes: Oceania covers the globe. Those who want to depart from the U.S. will find itineraries for Alaska, Bermuda, the Caribbean, Mexico and New England, among others.

Loyalty program: Oceania Club awards credits based on the length of the trip. The more credits you earn, the higher the elite status you’ll achieve. Benefits include perks like onboard credit, discounts on spa treatments and complimentary wine and prepaid gratuities.

Oceania Cruises destinations

Oceania Cruises ships' smaller size gives them access to ports that larger ships can’t visit. The line also offers world cruises that circumnavigate the globe in 180 days, as well as a range of longer, regionally focused sailings.

Antarctica.

Canada and New England.

Middle East.

New Zealand.

South Pacific and Tahiti.

Panama Canal.

South America.

Depending on how long you want to sail and where you’re going, you can find itineraries as short as seven days and longs as a whopping 200 days.

Oceania cruise prices

Oceania sailings range in price depending on such factors as cabin type, ship, destination and length of trip. Keep in mind that Oceania is an upscale brand that prides itself on gourmet cuisine and onboard service — and its rates tend to reflect that.

For those looking for a weeklong cruise in the Caribbean, a trip departing from Miami and stopping in Mexico, Belize and Honduras starts at $1,399 per person. If you’re interested in Europe, a 10-day trip from Rome to Barcelona starts at $2,470 per person. Both rates are based on double occupancy in an inside stateroom.

Those who want to make like Magellan can book the 180-day around-the-world cruise starting at $48,499. A shorter, but still luxurious, 72-day itinerary in Asia starts at $19,599. Suites will increase the cost of the cruise but add more space for you to relax in your cabin.

The cruise line has announced a new base fare package called “simply MORE,” which comes with a host of inclusions. These include round-trip flights, airport transfers, shore excursions and a beverage package for all guests in the cabin.

What is the best Oceania ship?

Oceania has eight ships in a range of sizes; the smallest accommodates just under 700 passengers, while the largest can hold up to 1,250. The cruise line has a low staff-to-passenger ratio, between 1.5 and 1.7 staff per passenger, which allows for more personalized service. Many of its ships have capacity for 684 passengers, which means they can feel less crowded than larger ships.

The best Oceania cruise ship is its newest one — Vista. Every room has a veranda, plus space for storage, rain showers in the bathrooms and upscale furnishings.

What is the newest Oceania ship?

The newest Oceania ships are the Vista, which set sail in 2023, and the Allura, which is scheduled to sail in 2025. Both of these are on the larger end of its fleet, with a capacity for 1,210 passengers.

They’re also part of a new class of Allura ships, which feature more onboard amenities and features compared with the other six ships in the fleet. Some examples of this on the Vista include four new dining venues, concierge-level staterooms for solo travelers and larger standard staterooms with over 290 square feet of space.

All meals and snacks at buffet restaurants, dining rooms and specialty restaurants.

Water, juice, soft drinks, specialty coffees and teas.

Shows and entertainment.

Pool access.

Onboard activities.

Oceania Cruises loyalty program: Oceania Club

Oceania Club members earn credits on each cruise they take, with more points awarded for longer cruises. For example, a cruise that lasts up to 24 days earns one credit, cruises for 25-34 days receive two credits, and trips longer than 158 days get 15 credits.

Earning status can take a while unless your first cruise is lengthy. If you’re looking for elite status on a cruise line, Oceania isn't especially rewarding for people who cruise occasionally.

Oceania Club elite status tiers

The Oceania Club loyalty program has seven levels:

President’s Circle.

With your first cruise, you automatically become a Blue member after signing up. The more nights you spend on Oceania ships, the higher your status tier and benefits. Here’s how to reach each tier along with some of the best benefits at each level.

To earn: Accrue at least five credits.

Best benefits: $100 shipboard credit, members-only offers and discount on Wi-Fi packages.

To earn: Accrue at least 10 credits.

Best benefits: $250 shipboard credit, complimentary prepaid gratuities and VIP shore excursion check-in.

To earn: Accrue at least 15 credits.

Best benefits: $400 shipboard credit, $300 spa treatment credit and two custom air fee waivers (worth $398).

To earn: Accrue at least 20 credits.

Best benefits: $500 shipboard credit, a free cruise, priority terminal check-in and an invitation to dine with the ship's officers.

To earn: Accrue at least 40 credits.

Best benefits: $750 shipboard credit, $400 spa treatment credit and complimentary wine tasting.

President’s Circle

To earn: Accrue at least 60 credits.

Best benefits: $1,000 shipboard credit, complimentary prestige beverage package and free laundry service.

How to earn Oceania Club credits

Travelers earn credits based on the length of a sailing. Even a three-week cruise earns just one credit, which means it can take some time to reach the first elite tier — Bronze, which requires five credits. Even though they’re part of the same holding company, you won’t earn Oceania credits when sailing with Norwegian or Regent Seven Seas.

How to redeem points

There are no points to redeem with Oceania Club. The primary purpose of the program is earning credits to reach different elite status tiers. At each level, there are various benefits you receive when on a cruise.

Oceania Cruises’ Oceania Club loyalty program: The ultimate guide

Gene Sloan

Editor's Note

Staying loyal to Oceania Cruises can really pay off — and it can do so relatively quickly.

Upon reaching just the second tier of the Oceania Club, the line's seven-tier frequent cruiser program, you'll start getting cash back in the form of a $100 onboard spending credit every time you cruise. As you rise through the tiers, the dollar amount you'll receive in a spending credit will also rise — to fabulously generous levels.

Specifically, upon reaching the Silver and Gold tiers of the program, your onboard credit for every cruise will jump to $250 and then $400, respectively; these are significant sums that you can spend on anything from drinks to spa treatments. The next three tiers of the program take the onboard credits even higher, to a maximum of $1,000 per cruise once you reach the President's Circle tier.

For more cruise guides, news and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter.

These onboard spending credits are at the core of the reward structure for the Oceania Club loyalty program, and they are wonderful in their simplicity. As you rise through the ranks of the program and show Oceania more loyalty, the growing value of the spending credits you receive will give you the means to choose more and more perks while on board Oceania ships.

If you're a wine connoisseur, you can use the credits to buy yourself nice bottles of wine with meals. If you're not a big drinker, you can spend the money on spa treatments. If spa treatments aren't for you, you can use the credit for shore excursions or some other extra-charge item on board.

Still, onboard credits aren't all you'll get by showing Oceania loyalty. Higher tiers of the program also offer such perks as priority disembarkation in ports, complimentary gratuities, credits for spa treatments and invitations to special onboard events.

Additionally, upon reaching each of the top three tiers of the program, members will receive one of the truly spectacular rewards in the cruise loyalty program universe: a free cruise.

Ways to earn points

The currency system of the Oceania Club is the "credit," and the process of earning credits is relatively straightforward. You get one or more credits for every cruise you take based on how long that cruise is.

You will get one credit for a cruise if the sailing is up to 24 days in length. If the cruise is longer than that, you will earn credits according to the following table:

  • Sailings of 25-34 days: 2 credits
  • Sailings of 35-44 days: 3 credits
  • Sailings of 45-54 days: 4 credits
  • Sailings of 55-64 days: 5 credits
  • Sailings of 65-99 days: 7 credits
  • Sailings of 100-157 days: 10 credits
  • Sailings of 158-plus days: 15 credits

In other words, if you take a typical Oceania cruise that is 10 nights long, you will get one credit. But if you sign up for the line's 85-day voyage from Papeete, Tahiti, to Cape Town, South Africa, scheduled for 2025, you'll get seven credits. If you try one of the line's famously long around-the-world sailings, which last 180 days or more, you'll get the maximum of 15 credits for just that one voyage.

Program tiers and benefits

There are seven tiers to the Oceania Club program:

  • Blue (1-4 credits)
  • Bronze (5-9 credits)
  • Silver (10-14 credits)
  • Gold (15-19 credits)
  • Platinum (20-39 credits)
  • Diamond (40-59 credits)
  • President's Circle (60-plus credits)

As is typical for cruise line loyalty programs, the first tier of the Oceania Club program doesn't come with all that many valuable perks.

Blue-level members receive:

  • A membership pin
  • An invitation to an onboard cocktail reception
  • Exclusive member-only offers
  • Advance notice on new itineraries
  • 10% savings on Oceania logo merchandise
  • A subscription to Oceania's magazine, OLife

It isn't until you reach the second tier of the program (Bronze) that you start getting those onboard credits mentioned above. Upon reaching the Bronze tier, you'll get a $100 shipboard credit every time you cruise.

Related: A beginners guide to cruise line loyalty programs

oceania cruise lines phone number

Additionally, Bronze tier members get a 30% discount on WaveNet internet services, a complimentary bottle of Oceania Club private label wine and a complimentary member cap and tote bag.

Moving up to the Bronze tier is relatively easy. You'll need five credits, which you could earn by taking five relatively short cruises or just a single 55-day voyage on an Oceania ship.

The elite level that makes a difference

In our view, the Silver level is where being a loyal Oceania customer really starts paying off.

Once you reach Silver, you'll get all the above plus an additional $150 shipboard credit (at this point, your onboard credit is now at $250 per cruise). You'll also get complimentary pre-paid gratuities on every cruise you take. The latter perk is a big deal as Oceania has the highest automatic gratuity levies in the business — $18 to $23 per person, per day, depending on your cabin category.

Related: The TPG guide to tipping on cruise ships

Silver status also brings VIP shore excursion check-in. This perk helps you get the most out of every port call since you'll be among the first to disembark.

Other Silver perks include a 10% discount on Oceania Cruises logo merchandise and a 10% discount on the line's Prestige Select beverage packages.

Once you hit the Gold tier, you'll get all that plus an additional $150 in shipboard credit and two complimentary Custom Air Fee Waivers — a $398 value. Now your onboard credit is up to $400 per cruise.

The Gold tier also brings two complimentary $150 Aquamar Spa treatment credits.

Reaching the Silver tier of the Oceania Club program isn't too difficult if you start to become an Oceania regular. You'll need 10 credits, which equates to 10 shorter cruises or, say, two 55-night cruises. If you sign up for one of the line's longer, 100-day-plus sailings, you'll reach the Silver tier in just a single cruise.

Best elite perk

The ultimate perk for Oceania Club loyalty program members comes upon reaching the Platinum tier. Once you hit this level, your very next cruise is free — with some caveats.

The fine print on this perk notes that the free cruise is based on double occupancy, subject to availability at the time of booking; the price also excludes government taxes and fees, so you'll still have to pay for those. The cruise also cannot exceed 14 days in length and cannot be a segment of an around-the-world voyage. Still, that's a pretty great perk, right?

It gets even better. Once you hit the Diamond tier of the Oceania Club program, you get another free cruise. You get a third free cruise when you hit the President's Circle tier.

Related: The best credit cards for booking cruises

oceania cruise lines phone number

Other perks of the Platinum tier include an additional $100 shipboard credit (at this point, you're up to $500 per cruise in credits), an invitation to a special dinner with officers when you sail and priority check-in at the terminal at the start of your cruise.

Once you reach the Diamond tier, in addition to another free cruise, you will receive all of the above, plus:

  • An additional $250 shipboard credit (for $750 in total)
  • A complimentary wine tasting
  • Two additional $50 Aquamar Spa treatment credits (for a total of $400 in credits)

Additional perks that come with the top President's Circle tier include yet another bump up in onboard credit — to a cool $1,000 per cruise.

President's Circle members also get a complimentary Prestige Select Beverage Package and complimentary laundry service.

Reaching the Platinum level of the Oceania Club program can take a few years if you sail mostly shorter voyages and only cruise a few times a year. You need 20 credits, which equates to 20 shorter cruises. As with the other tiers, you can hit the Platinum relatively quickly if you gravitate to longer sailings.

Oceania is known for some of the longest cruises in the industry, including regular 180-day-plus world sailings that span the globe. Sign up for one of those, and the 15 credits you receive will put you 75% of the way toward Platinum status.

Note that, as is often the case with cruise line loyalty programs, Oceania customers do not have to requalify for status each year. Oceania Club members keep their points at the end of each year and continue to accrue points indefinitely. That means that someone who hits President's Circle status will remain at that top-tier level forever (or until Oceania makes a change to the program).

Such "forever status" is one of the great allures of cruise line frequent cruiser programs. Many airline frequent flyer programs, by contrast, require loyalty members to requalify for status each year.

Bottom line

With its promise of generous onboard spending credits and free cruises upon reaching higher tiers, the Oceania Club is one of the best loyalty programs in the cruise world. It's a particularly alluring program compared to other upscale and relatively small-ship lines. Some small-ship lines don't have any loyalty program at all, or they have only a modest program. Oceania's loyalty program is robust.

Oceania Cruises lays claim to having the 'most awarded' dining experiences at sea. And with 12 restaurant brands operating at the very highest level on each of the Oceania's cruise ships, that's quite an achievement.

With Oceania's strong focus on cuisine, it will come as no surprise to find out that the menus onboard Oceania Cruises have been created by some of the world's finest chefs, many of whom can trace their culinary roots back to France.

'The inspiration for Oceania Cruises' culinary programme come from Master Chefs such as Jacques Pépin, author of countless cook books and personal chef to numerous heads of state. Many of Oceania's Executure Chefs have previously managed Michelin Star awarded restaurants in cities stretching from London to New York.

If you’re a sophisticated traveller, looking for the finest cuisine and fantastic personal service, all wrapped together in a warm and luxurious atmosphere, you’re probably going to love a cruise with Oceania Cruises.

Oceania Cruises: Restaurants

Each ship within the Oceania Cruises fleet features a Grand Dining Room plus an eclectic mix of specialty dining rooms that showcase the 'finest cuisine at sea'. Every person on an Oceania ship is guaranteed access to each of these restaurants at least once as part of their Oceania Cruises holiday.

Oceania Insignia Toscana Restaurant

The Culinary Center

Unique to Oceania Cruises, 'The Culinary Center' is the first hands-on cooking school at sea. Culinary aficionados now have the opportunity to learn from Oceania's award winning chefs in a ship based 'state-of-the-art' teaching kitchen.

Each tutorial is led by one of Oceania Cruises' Chef Instructors who will teach you how to create your own culniary masterpieces. Using the finest ingredients and know how from Michelin starred restaurants, each dish is prepared by you at your own ship based workstation.

Budding chefs onboard Oceania Cruises will also want to experience the cruise line's 'Culinary Discovery Tours'. This incredible concept was bourne by the cruise line's desire to become the world's leading culinary focused luxury cruise line.

When in port, Oceania's chefs organise bespoke gastronomic tours of the local region. In addition to learning the secrets of local recipes, you'll visit food quaint food markets and dine at local speciality restaurants. Each tour is focused on the 'culinary culture' at each particular destination.

La Reserve By Wine Spectator

As one of the leading culinary cruise lines in the world, it will come as no surprise to learn that Oceania Cruises places a key focus on fine wine. Each ship in the Oceania fleet have an extensive wine cellar to complement the menus in each of the ship's speciality restaurants.

Wine tasting has become an important service on Oceania voyages, so much so that the cruise line has built dedicated wine tasting facilities onboard several of its ships. In partnership with Wine Spectator, the world's leading publication for wine connoisseurs, Oceania Cruises has created 'La Reserve'.

This dedicated venue allows Oceania's guests to learn about the history of wine and to sample some of the finest wines featured in Wine Spectator magazine. Each tasing session or service is geared towards the destinations that the ship is visiting at the time. A perfect extension to your beverage package.

Small Ship Luxury

The benefits of a 'small ship' cruise experience are many but the main difference is the sense of available space created by much smaller passenger volumes. The highest passenger to crew ratios combine to create a sense of exclusivity that is unmatched on larger ships.

Smaller ships can navigate through shallower waters which presents much greater opportunities for scenic cruising. Secondly, smaller cruise ships can visit smaller ports which are often much closer to the eventual destination or attraction.

There are six ships in the Oceania Cruises fleet. Each of the cruise line's elegant ships can accommodate upwards of 824 passengers. Of significant interest is Oceania's passenger to crew ratio which is one of the highest in the luxury cruise sector.

Flagged in the Marshall Islands, each of Oceania's contemporary ships feature a Grand Dining Room and Grand Staircase, offering a direct connection to the bygone era of the luxury steamers from the early 20th century.

Two additional ships are due to join Oceania's fleet in 2023 and 2025. The new 'Allura Class' ships are expected to set new standards in luxury cruising and are being eagerly awaited by both cruisers and media alike.

Sign up for our newsletter to keep updated on the naming ceremony for each new ship, delivery dates and future sailing dates. Alternatively, why not visit our special section on Oceania's fleet to find out more about each ship.

Curated Travel Experiences

Curated travel experiences are all about diving deeper into the local culture of each destination. An Oceania Cruises voyage guarantees a much more involved experience at each port of call, thanks to the input of local experts who are directly involved in shaping the shore excursions programme.

The ports of call on each one of Oceania Cruises' itineraries are selected for their rich cultural interest and underpinned by the culinary history and significance of the local area. Consequently, the cruise line manages to incorporate ports of call which you will not experience with another cruise line.

You will be joined by like minded guests, all of whom place the same value on exceptional cuisine, high end luxury and attentive yet non-intrusive service. If you favour an elite, intimate environment where you can experience true opulence and elegance, then it’s well worth considering a cruise with Oceania Cruises.

Shore Excursions

Oceania offers a diverse array of shore excursions. Many of these excursions are included for free as part of the simply MORE™ campaign. When in port, Oceania Cruises also provides free shuttle services from the ship into the local town or city as a matter of routine.

Oceania's shore excursion programme is categorised into several categories:

Listen to talks from guest lecturers, intrepid explorers, sports personalities and celebrity chefs. Alternatively why not sign up to some art classes or stop off at the ship's Monte Carlo-esque casino to try your luck at the elegant tables? You will certainly enjoy your free time onboard!

Enrichment Programmes

Enjoy special guest lecturers, seminars from the Aquamar Spa + Vitality Center, trivia information, wine tastings and more on each cruise. Certain ships also benefit from state-of-the-art culinary centres and also the Artist’s Loft to bring out your creative side.

Oceania’s signature sailings also host special guests such as CBS Sports’ Verne Lundquist or the cruise line's very own Executive Culinary Director, Jacques Pépin. The focus might include exclusive lectures, cooking demonstrations or motivational talks.

Oceania Cruises Phone Number: Live Human Help

Thomas Maxon , CEO & Co-founder of Claimyr | last updated: 11/08/2023

Have you been dialing the Oceania Cruises phone line 855-623-2642 to reach a human? This guide covers how to call and reach a live human at the Oceania Cruises. Also, we provide you with a guaranteed way to speak with an agent within a few hours.

How to call the Oceania Cruises phone number and speak with a human using a shortcut

Use the widget below to find out the best times, how to call, and a guaranteed method to reach a live Oceania Cruises customer service agent. If it's too hard to call the Oceania Cruises phone number below, you can place a Oceania Cruises call here to guarantee you reach a human.

Bringing your passport on your cruise is extremely prudent. Check out our guide on calling the US Passport Agency to see the best times to call and how to speak with a live human there.

Traveling to port from your current location is also a major headache. If you're flying, be sure to check out our of guides on different airlines:

  • United Air phone number
  • Delta phone number
  • Alaska Air phone number
  • American Air phone number
  • Southwest phone number
  • JetBlue phone number

For those considering a different luxury cruise experience, you may want to learn how to contact Regent Seven Seas Cruises; our guide on the Regent Seven Seas Cruises Phone Number provides detailed instructions for speaking with their customer service team.

How can I speak to a live person at Oceania Cruises?

There are two methods to reach a live person:

  • 1.) by calling manually over and over again, get on a long hold, and then hope the call doesn't drop -- and I'll show you how to do that,
  • 2.) use a calling tool that dials for you, stays on hold, and forwards a call to your phone number when an agent is on the line. (RECOMMENDED)

If you're also looking to contact another luxury cruise line, you might find our guide on the Virgin Voyages Phone Number helpful for a smooth and direct connection to their customer service team.

Option 1 (SLOW): call manually - time to a human rep = 2+ hours .

Below is the best way to manually dial through their menu faster:

  • Step 1: Dial 8556232642
  • Step 2: Wait for 2 seconds
  • Step 3: Press 2
  • Step 4: Wait for 9 seconds
  • Step 5: Press 2

For a comprehensive guide on reaching a live representative, including alternative numbers and tips, visit our detailed Celebrity Cruises Phone Number page.

Option 2 (FAST): use a call app - time to a human rep = 5-40 min.

By far the fastest option is to use software. Robots are simply better at this task than humans ever can be.

  • Step 1 : head to Claimyr
  • Step 2 : select/search for "Oceania Cruises"
  • Step 3 : pay for Claimyr to call for you (yes it's a paid version, but it honestly works very well. You can research Claimyr before buying to be sure)
  • Step 4 : kick back, relax, and wait for your phone to ring with a Oceania Cruises agent on the line!

If you're looking to contact a different cruise line, such as Holland America, you can follow a similar process by visiting the Holland America Line Phone Number page on Claimyr.

The Oceania Cruises's hours of operation

The Oceania Cruises is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM (EST)

For those interested in exploring other cruise options, you can find the Norwegian Cruise Line Phone Number here, which may offer different hours of operation that suit your schedule.

Oceania Cruises Callback Tool: About Claimyr

Like you, I was at wit's end trying to find a good way to reach a human when I was unemployed in the 2020 pandemic lockdown. After calling 500 times a week to the EDD in California, I built a software program to dial for me automatically. This led to me sharing this tool with you. So far, a few hundred thousand people have used it to reach a live human not only at the Oceania Cruises but also at the IRS phone number , Airlines phone numbers , Healthcare provider phone lines , and many more hard-to-reach phone lines across America.

Claimyr is a software-as-a-service that automates the entire calling process for you. We do this by programming software to

  • automatically dial the Oceania Cruises phone number,
  • navigate the phone menu,
  • stay on hold,
  • detect if a live agent has picked up the call,
  • then forward a call to your phone with a live human waiting for you

The value for you is you can quickly get paid without the hours, days, weeks, and months of manually dialing over and over, staying on hold for hours, and often redialing after a dropped call. Instead, using Claimyr , all you need to do is press a button and wait for a callback to your phone with a live agent on the call.

Yes, Claimyr is legit. We welcome you to search Google for " Claimyr ". You'll see thousands of genuine happy reviews, news articles, and our location (San Francisco).

And no, Claimyr doesn't clog the lines or make matters worse. This is because Claimyr has a one-call-per-customer policy. We only place a single call at a time for you. We don't blast the phone lines as this would be cost-prohibitive for us (our calls would be preventing our own calls from reaching a human) and goes against our values. Also, if you use Claimyr, you stop calling yourself. This means that Claimyr doesn't add additional calls to the phone lines that wouldn't already be there anyway.

a review of Claimyr

News coverage of Claimyr for the skeptical:

What is the best time to call Oceania Cruises?

Do not call during these times (unless you are using Claimyr, which then you can order a callback 24/7 Monday - Sunday):

  • 👎 Monday mornings
  • 👎 After 5 pm on any day
  • 👎 Friday afternoons (as you'll likely not solve your issue until the following week)

But again, if you are using Claimyr's automated callback tool, then you will be able to place a call literally anytime during the day and get a callback soon after.

The best time to call the Oceania Cruises is Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. ⚠️ WARNING ⚠️: please beware that you often need to dedicate an entire day to dialing over and over just to get on hold . Also, the Oceania Cruises is notorious for dropping calls even when you finally do get on hold ! So if you decide to start calling mid-week, due to excessive call volume, you may not be able to reach an agent until the following week or longer.

If you don't consider calling the Oceania Cruises a full-time profession, consider using a calling tool such as Claimyr to guarantee a callback with an agent on the line with zero hold time.

Need a phone number or email for Oceania Customer Relations ASAP

We disembarked from Sirena today in Athens and one of our bags was missing.  We think someone with a similar bag took ours in error.  I completed the claim report with one of their reps but haven't heard anything yet and they didn't give me any contact information to follow up with them.  We're in Athens for 1 more day, but I think Sirena sails out either tonight or tomorrow.  I'm pretty desperate to find some way to follow up with them on this.  Can anyone help me out with contact information other than their general number (which I have called but they can't help and when they forwarded me to the Customer Relations department I got their voice mail!!!!)

Maybe try the Port authority  or Harbour master in Athens/Piraeus

https://www.olp.gr/en/contact

Hopefully if someone took your bag  returned it to the port   or if your contact info in on/in the bag  will let you know  they have it

I put our itinerary inside & in a pocket on the outside of  the case with email & any hotels  we will be at

Like

Adding that info to your luggage is a great idea, thanks!

1 hour ago, SteelCity Cruiser said: We think someone with a similar bag took ours in error.

If that is the case, they won't likely know until they get home, so I'd be working on Plan 'A': buy replacements to get you through the rest of your trip.  As Plan 'B', in case your bag got left on the ship or misplaced on the dock, it's Oceania's "Port Agent" you need to track down.

Yeah, every time you step off a cruise ship you need to have the "Port Agent"s name and phone number (check Currents ) for just this sort of thing or if you're too late back at a port of call.

One more thought (not that it will help you today).  Do *not* pack "his" and "her" suitcases.  Split your stuff between two suitcases so that if at least one suitcase shows up you can cope.

Did you use  a TA? Maybe email them & see if they can  help you get  in contact with  the ship

4 minutes ago, LHT28 said: Did you use  a TA? Maybe email them & see if they can  help you get  in contact with  the ship

My TA is traveling with us and has the same general number as everyone else.

Thanks

Value of hindsight but we have fluorescent "sleeves" that wrap around the handles of our suitcases.  They make it easier to spot our bags when we collect them after getting off a ship but also help stop someone else confusing the bag with theirs.

Thank you everyone for your recommendations, but the good news is, the woman who took my bag got my voice mail and contacted me.  Good fortune that she was still here in Athens in a hotel only a 15 minute walk away from ours and I was able to go over and retrieve our bag.  SHE was contacted by Oceania about her bag left at the port and they are delivering it to her.  She WASN'T asked if she took a bag in error, and I still haven't heard from Oceania about our formerly missing bag.

This is what I do when we are traveling TO our destination, as well as always carrying on a 3-day supply of clothing just in case.  However when going home I don't always follow that strategy depending on what else we need to fit in our bags (e.g. - we like to bring home local wines and need to distribute them for weight purposes).

good you got it back

People do not look at "their " bag  in the scrum to see if  it is actually theirs

We had that happen  but the person was still in the terminal when they discovered it was not their bag

ORV

I missed something here. How did you get the woman's number that took your bag and leave her a voice mail?

YourWorldWithBill

YourWorldWithBill

Glad to hear that everything worked out, and great suggestion about splitting suitcases with your companion. We do something similar to what @Hambagahle  suggested, but a bit more ostentatious. We wrap a large, colored strap around our bags. Not something I really like doing, just for appearances, but (knock on wood) we worry a bit less.

Duct tape your initials on both sides.

babysteps

Yay for reunitiing with your bag!

Airtag or Tile could also help

11 hours ago, ORV said: I missed something here. How did you get the woman's number that took your bag and leave her a voice mail?

Her bag was still on the dock in the group next to ours. In fact, I first thought it was ours from a distance (we have azure blue Travel Pro and her's was a different brand, but similar color).  My TA suggested I take a photo of her luggage tag and the bag just in case, so I did call her but it went right to voice mail.  I left her a message and she texted me back several hours later.

Calling the port agent was the next step when I got the woman's text.

I can tell you all that the next set of replacement luggage I buy will be the brightest, most obnoxiously colored/designed luggage I can find that is highly unlikely to be confused with someone elses!   LOL!!

My father always did this! Great idea. As for me, I wrap a colorful (sturdy) scarf around the handles.

AirTags would have also been useful here. My stuff always travels with them now.

Glad you were reunited.

You'd think folks would be *real* careful about going through customs with someone else's bags.  😳

  • 3 weeks later...

GeezerCouple

GeezerCouple

We always put a lot (a LOT) of really obnoxious, bold tape on the various sides of our luggage.  And we have a bunch of frilly-but-short streamers attached to the sides of the handles.  The current tape is bright reflective silvery, with multi-colored day-glow stars.  JUST what any 5- or 6-year old little girl would love!  😆

AND... our handles have special padded wraps "for comfort", but they are also very heavily textured .  There is NO way someone could accidently grab one of those and not realize instantly "something is *wrong*, even without looking! 😉

Yes, with those appearances, sometimes checking in at top hotels gets a sideways glance or ten...

Nevertheless, we are about to buy some Airtags for extra peace of mind.  They aren't that expensive for what they do.

We've only lost (and only temporarily) one bag thus far (knocking VERY hard on wood as I type these possibly doomed words!???).

DH got off a flight from a short consulting trip, so he only had a foldover checked bag, and not a huge one.  It was still back in the "plain black bag" days.

He found "his" plain black foldover bag.  He had to make a couple of phone calls.  By then, there was nothing else left for luggage for his flight but "his bag".  So he grabbed it and came home.

And worse, he didn't unpack immediately, being exhausted from travel and presentations, etc.  And then... and then... he went to unpack, a day or two later.

OOOPS!  NOT HIS BAG!   😱

We found some ID inside, thank goodness.  Called the number, and "that guy" was still at his conference near our town.  So we drove out to the conference center, and swapped bags.  That guy, at a professional conference, still seemed unaware he had the wrong bag when he got DH's call.  " Whatever... "

We've been lucky all these years, and don't want to tempt fate.

Paying about $100 for a few Airtags seems like a rather inexpensive extra sacrificial offering to the Travel Gods...

I called the customer service number on the web site, told them my needs, and was directed to the correct department.  Handled efficiently.

Thanks

Thanks. The people I’m traveling with were trying to call Oceania yesterday and couldn’t get through.  Apparently there was a very long hold time, so I was hoping there was a direct number. They were eventually able to find out what they needed to know.

Admire breathtaking views of the ocean from any of the 350 comfortable, stylish guest rooms. At the Lighthouse Terrace Restaurant try a selection of delicious meals, accompanied by rum cocktails and traditional Barbadian hospitality. The hotel is only five minutes from the capital and 20 minutes from the airport.
