Full 2022-23 Tour of Australasia schedule announced with 16 tournaments
The full schedule of the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia has been revealed totalling 16 tournaments set to be played right across Australia and New Zealand, including the 2022 Australian PGA Championship and the Australian Open editions.
The season is highlighted by the back-to-back DP World Tour co-sanctioned tournaments – the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship in Brisbane, and the groundbreaking ISPS HANDA Australian Open in Melbourne which will feature men, women and the national All Abilities championship; as well as the New Zealand Open Presented by Sky Sports. The full season is set to be played for more than $8 million.
The Australian Open returns to the schedule after two years’ absence caused by the pandemic and travel restrictions, as does the New Zealand Open, to be played at Millbrook Resort near Queenstown.
Both the men’s tournament at the Australian Open and the PGA Championship will be co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour as part of the Australasian Tour’s alignment.
The 2022-23 Australasian Tour season begins in Kalgoorlie in October with the WA PGA Championship, followed by the WA Open at the Western Australian Golf Club in Perth.
The summer of golf features tournaments across the country, from Kalgoorlie to the Hunter Valley, Cobram Barooga, Gippsland, the Mornington Peninsula, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth wrapping with a season finale in late March in Victoria with tournament details to be confirmed.
The Webex Players Series will return for a third year following the success of the mixed-gender format last year, highlighted by Hannah Green’s historic win at TPS Murray River. The four tournaments will again be co-sanctioned with the WPGA Tour of Australasia, as will the Australian Open and the Vic Open, giving golf fans a taste of the mixed-gender golf that has proven to be such a winner in the past two seasons.
The innovative Gippsland Super 6 returns at Warragul Country Club with its popular series of six-hole matches between players.
The ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia is an important launch pad for Australasian golfers to hit the world stage, again providing leading pathways to the DP World Tour and the Korn Ferry Tour:
- The Order of Merit top three receive a DP World Tour playing card for the following season, with the next three receiving an exemption to Final Stage of Q-School, the next seven receiving an exemption to second stage of Q-School.
- The Order of Merit winner receives starts in various major tournaments in world golf including The Open Championship.
- The Order of Merit top 5 receive an exemption to the final stage of Korn Ferry Tour Q-School, with the top 6-15 receiving an exemption to second stage.
PGA of Australia Chief Executive Gavin Kirkman said he was excited about the bulked-up schedule for 2022-23.
“What I love about this is the pathways that it creates for our exciting crop of future Australian stars,” said Kirkman. “We’ve worked hard to build the schedule back after Covid knocked everyone around in the tournament space, and having the Australian Open and the New Zealand Open back stronger than ever really makes a difference.
“In addition, the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship at Royal Queensland last season and the recent addition of the four Webex Player Series tournaments, have all been extremely popular all over the country.
“Overall, it’s a fantastic 2023 schedule with room for even more tournaments in the future, and we can’t wait for it to get underway later this year.”
Nick Dastey, Tournament Director for the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia, said the tour offered up some of the best opportunities in the world for professional golfers.
“We’re delighted that the schedule has come together like this,” said Dastey.
“To have two co-sanctioned tournaments with the DP World Tour is fantastic, with the winner getting automatic entry to the DP World Tour, a sensational opportunity for any young player.
“There’s a number of long-standing tournaments in the schedule that are back again for the 2022/23 season and we’re excited to see the next wave of golfers making Australasian golf history.
“It’s a strong schedule that offers lots of opportunities for players, and the pathways are incredible.”

Nine events to kick start a great Summer of Golf on the PGA Tour of Australasia
by Golf Australia
Nine events including a new tournament will feature in the first half of the 2023/24 PGA Tour of Australasia schedule released today.
The PGA Tour of Australasia continues to grow its schedule, showcasing the country’s best professionals in events being staged across six states and territories in August, October, November and December.
The first half of the 2023-24 season will offer a total of $5.45 million in prizemoney and is highlighted by the two Australian majors which form part of the start of the DP World Tour’s 2024 Race to Dubai – the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship at Royal Queensland Golf Club (November 23-26) and the ISPS HANDA Australian Open for men and women, as well as the Australian All Abilities Championship, at The Australian and The Lakes (November 30-December 3).
After a successful PNG Open in May which started the 2023/24 season, players will now head north for the second event of the season, the Northern Territory PGA Championship held at Palmerston Golf and Country Club on August 17-20.
“We are very excited by the schedule for the 2023/24 season as we watch golf continue to boom in Australia,” PGA CEO Gavin Kirkman said.
“The opportunities and pathways this schedule will provide both our current and next generation of superstars continues to be a main focus and we can’t wait to see who the next David Micheluzzi will be post the 2023/24 season.
“After the NT PGA Championship players will then head west to begin a very busy seven events in an eight-week swing, including our two Aussie majors.
“From the start of October through to December, there will be a PGA Tour of Australasia tournament to attend in person or watch on television almost every week, highlighting the elite players in our game on some great golf courses.
“The Fortinet Australian PGA Championship and ISPS HANDA Australian Open will again undoubtedly be highlights of Australia’s sporting summer as we look to build on what we achieved with those two tournaments last year.
“Thanks to our co-sanctioning agreement with the DP World Tour we will see a great mix of homegrown and international talent.”
There’s a new home for the WA Open which will be held at the Joondalup Resort (October 5-8) as the first of consecutive weeks in professional golf in the west. The resort’s Quarry and Lakes courses will be in play for the first WA Open at Joondalup since 1987.
It will also incorporate a 36-hole All Abilities Championship.
The Tour will then visit a familiar location, the Kalgoorlie Golf Course, which will host the WA PGA Championship for the 12th time from October 12-15.
Joining the schedule as part of the innovative Webex Players Series is the inaugural TPS South Australia hosted by Greg Blewett which will be held in the famous wine region of McLaren Vale at the Willunga Golf Club from October 19-22.
TPS South Australia will break new ground as the first mixed event, where men and women compete on the same course for the same trophy and prizemoney, to be held in the state. It will also be the first PGA Tour of Australasia tournament in South Australia since 2007.
Following the first TPS South Australia, it’s the Sunshine State’s turn with the Queensland PGA Championship at Nudgee Golf Club in Brisbane on November 2-5.
Victorian golf fans will then have the chance to see back-to-back tournaments in their state – the Gippsland Super 6 at Warragul Country Club (November 9-12) and the Victorian PGA Championship at Moonah Links (November 16-19) which is the last event before the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship at Royal Queensland.
Building on the recent success of its tournament broadcast coverage, which has brought the Tour and its new era of stars onto screens across the country and overseas, all of the PGA Tour of Australasia events in October and November will continue to be broadcast live on Fox Sports and Kayo, with the two Australian majors, the PGA and Open, also simulcast on Nine and 9Now.
The post-Christmas/New Year schedule of PGA Tour of Australasia events will be announced in coming weeks.
Lachlan Barker currently leads the 2023-24 Order of Merit standings following his win in the PNG Open at Royal Port Moresby Golf Club in May.

Five things to know: ISPS HANDA - CHAMPIONSHIP
The DP World Tour visits a new course this week in Japan as the ISPS HANDA - CHAMPIONSHIP marks the penultimate regular event of the Asian Swing.
All to play for as Asian Swing continues
The ISPS HANDA – CHAMPIONSHIP returns for its second edition in Japan this week, marking the penultimate event in the Asian Swing.
As with the four other Global Swings, the Asian Swing will have its own champion who will earn $200,000 from an overall $1million bonus pool.
Swing champions will also qualify for each of the Back 9 events, where players will play for increased Race to Dubai ranking points.
The leading DP World Tour member (not otherwise exempt) will also qualify for the Genesis Scottish Open , the second of five Rolex Series events this season.
But in an another exciting reward for DP World Tour members, those who finish in positions one to three in the final Asian Swing standings (at the conclusion of the Volvo China Open) will be exempt into the U.S. PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club from May 16-19.
As it stands, Keita Nakajima, Jesper Svensson and Kiradech Aphibarnrat sit in the top three positions on the rankings, but with a tight leaderboard, anyone down to T-58 can go top with a win in Japan.
Mount Fiji provides backdrop to new venue on the DP World Tour
With views of Mount Fuji offering a spectacular backdrop to this year's tournament, Taiheiyo Club Gotemba Course will play host on the DP World Tour for the first time this week, following on from last year's event at PGM Ishioka GC.
The par 70 layout, which plays at 7262 yards and is described by the club as a 'true hillside course', was designed in 1977 by Shunsuke Kato and is the flagship layout of Taineiyo Club's 18 courses. Situated 100km southwest of Tokyo, the course underwent a renovation in 2018 overseen by Rees Jones with consultation from Major Champion Hideki Matsuyama.
No stranger to elite competitions, the course has staged the Taiheiyo Masters on the Japan Golf Tour every year since its opening in 1977. It has also played host to the 2001 World Cup of Golf, won by South African duo Ernie Els and Retief Goosen, and will also stage this year's Asia Pacific Amateur Championship in October.
Japanese stars in action
A host of players will be hoping to become the latest Japanese stars to make their mark after a record-breaking six months that has seen three champions crowned on the DP World Tour.
Keita Nakajima became the latest name to break through at the Hero Indian Open at the end of March, just 49 days after compatriot Rikuya Hoshino earned his own maiden title at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters. Last season, Ryo Hisatsune became just the third player in history - following Hideki Matsuyama (2021 Masters) and Isao Aoki (1983 Panasonic European Open) to lift a DP World Tour title at the 2023 Cazoo Open de France.
With the event co-sanctioned with the Japan Golf Tour, Nakajima is joined in the field this week by 45 other players hoping to impress the home fans at a venue that is very well-known to them. Those include the likes of Takumi Kanaya, Kazuki Higa, Masahiro Kawamura, Ryo Ishikawa (a three-time champion on this course) and Hideto Tanihara (a two-time winner on this course)- who all have several previous top ten finishes in DP World Tour events.
ISPS HANDA continues support of golf
ISPS HANDA was founded by the Japanese philanthropist, Dr Haruhisa Handa, in 2006 in the belief that sport has the power to inspire, transform, and unite people and communities across social, racial and socio-economic barriers.
The DP World Tour and ISPS HANDA have collaborated on several events during a long-standing relationship, in turn raising the profile of golf as an accessible sport for all.
This was seen recently with ISPS HANDA backing the Australian All Abilities Championship – an event that features on the European Tour group’s G4D Tour schedule – at the end of last year.
Previous events ISPS HANDA has supported on the DP World Tour include the ISPS HANDA Wales Open (2012-14 and 2020), ISPS HANDA Perth International (2012-14 and 2016), ISPS HANDA World Cup of Golf (2013, 2016, 2018), (ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth (2017-19), ISPA HANDA Vic Open (2019-20), ISPS HANDA UK Championship (2020), ISPS HANDA World Invitational presented by Modest! Golf Management (2021), ISPS HANDA Championship in Spain (2022) and ISPS HANDA World Invitational presented by AVIV Clinics (2019, 21-23).
Inside the field
Matthieu Pavon is the top-ranked player in the field this week, having reached a career-high in the Official World Golf Ranking with a tie for 12th on his Masters debut earlier this month.
The French star, who won his first PGA TOUR title earlier this year, is joined in action by fellow ISPS HANDA ambassadors Rafa Cabrera-Bello and Christiaan Bezuidenhout, who are also fellow winners on the DP World Tour.
Jesper Svensson, who like Nakajima has won his first DP World Tour title during the Asian Swing, is aiming to strengthen his bid for a first Major start at next month’s U.S. PGA Championship, while Matteo Manassero and Jordan Gumberg are this season’s other winners teeing it up.
New Zealand’s Kazuma Kobori, who has guaranteed DP World Tour status for next season by finishing top of the Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit, is another rising star to watch out for.
Former DP World Tour winners Renato Paratore and Tom Lewis are among the Qualifying School graduates looking to make an impression, while could we see a third Challenge Tour graduate from the class of 2023 win this season after Matteo Manassero and Jesper Svensson?

First half of WPGA Tour of Australasia released
New pathways to the major tours in women’s golf and increased prizemoney are the highlights of WPGA Tour of Australasia’s schedule for the first half of 2024.
The first half of the WPGA Tour of Australasia will feature 15 events, offer a total of $2.9 million and include two $500,000 tournaments co-sanctioned with the Ladies European Tour (LET) - the Women’s NSW Open at Magenta Shores Golf Club and the Australian Women’s Classic at the Bonville Golf Resort at Coffs Harbour.
WPGA Tour of Australasia CEO Karen Lunn said having the two co-sanctioned events, where the winners gain automatic LET membership if not already a member, would open up huge career possibilities for the WPGA players.
“It’s huge for our players to have two Australian events back on the Ladies European Tour,” she said.
“The possibilities those tournaments open up are enormous, particularly at a time when the LET is growing massively from year to year and the direct pathways the LET now has to the LPGA Tour.
“A victory in one of the two Australian events can set up your career.
“The opportunity will be there for our members to do what someone like Steph Kyriacou has done in recent years.
“She won the Australian Women’s Classic as an amateur, turned pro and played and then won on LET Tour and went on to qualify for the LPGA Tour.”
The WPGA Tour schedule also includes four innovative and exciting tournaments on Webex Players Series calendar in conjunction with the Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia.
The ground-breaking, mixed-gendered tournaments feature some of the country’s best women and men golfers competing against each other in the same field, on the same course, for the same purse.
Appearing on the schedule for the first time is the $140,000 World Sand Greens Championship which will complete the first half of the season.
Lunn said the expansion of the WPGA Tour of Australasia schedule to 15 tournaments was a positive step forward for the women’s game.
“With the expansion of the WPGA Tour season, the future of women’s golf is looking bright,” she said.
“Anytime we can provide further playing opportunities is a win not just for our elite athletes, but right through to the grassroots level of the game, inspiring young girls to chase their dreams on and off the fairway.”
With the second half of the season to once again feature five co-sanctioned Mixed Trust Golf Tour events, Lunn is looking forward to seeing more players competing on an international level.
“We are always on the lookout for new and innovative ways to build on our strong relationships with other Tours in our region.
“Following the success of the inaugural Thailand Mixed Trust Golf Tour events, we look forward to once again co-sanctioning these tournaments and announcing the dates in the coming months.”
