Review by MARK

Apart from big delay going out of 6 hours both inbound and outbound journey were good I had reclining seats for my return journey but due to having a 10 month old baby it was very easy to sort onboard accommodation out at a reasonable price. Food is well priced and portion size good and plenty for children to do. Will definitely do it again.

Review by LUKE MCRAE

We should of sailed from portsmouth but due to bad weather, we got a text while traveling to ring Brittany ferrys which I did straight away, a very helpful lady answered the phone and said we could travel from plymouth that night instead, it was Abit of a rush but we made it, the weather was very rough during the night but other than that Brittany ferrys did there very best to help. Thank you

Review by IAN JAMES HUNT

Great trip with great facilities and staff. Hassle free trip and the staff could not have been more helpful. Thank you

Review by Anon

Took a while to embark and load the car, probably about 45 mins in a queue. Once on board everything was great. Reasonable price for refreshments and the quality of food was very good and again a good price. Plenty to see and do, even a pool for the little ones. Cabin was very small be adequate and the shower was surprisingly powerful. Nice touch in the morning if you are an early riser. From 6am on top deck there are wildlife experts pointing out dolphins and the odd whale. Very smooth crossing but I believe it can be a bit rough sometimes.

Pont Aven from Plymouth to Santander

This was our fourth trip on Pont Aven and we had a great trip even allowing for the fact it is only able to run on three engines! Of course, if you cross the Bay of Biscay in good weather it makes your trip so much better and the weather for our crossing was very calm. We decided to opt for a cabin upgrade and it is like being in a hotel room, so lovely to get your breakfast delivered to your cabin at the time you stipulate. Overall, a very good trip.

Dear 'David S', Thank you for your review, it's great to read that you enjoyed a very good trip with us and that this was your fourth trip on Pont-aven. I hope we can welcome you on board for a fifth one soon. Kind regards Jane Customer Services Brittany Ferries

Really rough crossing and economic ship really is cheap. absolutely no way would travel again on connemara was so crap, especially arriving 7 hours late.... drove back to Cherbourg to get home and was so much better.

We have just returned from a Brittany Ferries driving tour through Spain and Portugal. We crossed on the Cap Finistere and returned on the Pont Aven. Both trips were delayed by four hours and our return was changed from Portsmouth to Plymouth which we were notified about in advance but was still disappointing. Not having been on a ferry for many years I was impressed by the boats and their facilities and everything was to a high standard, however, so are the prices if you choose to dine in the restauraunts. There is, however, a self-service option which did look more reasonable. I was disappointed by the dining choice in the restaurant which appeared to be a buffet style which we wanted, but turned out that the main course had to be ordered and served to us. Nothing on the set menu appealed but I ordered the sturgeon as the most appealing. However, when it arrived, I tasted it and didn't like it at all - when the waiter came to clear the plates away he did not comment at all about my untouched meal or offer a replacement - we were still charged £27 plus our drinks for a very below standard meal apart from the buffet choices which we did enjoy. Having said that, the cabins on the Pont Aven were much better including radio, tv and tea and coffee facilities which we did not have on the Cap Finistere. Overall a pleasant way to start and end a holiday but watch out for the prices on board.

First time on the route, absolutely fantastic offering, the extra time on the boat offsets the time spend driving. The ferry itself is a bit expensive despite the "no frills" economie option, but if you compare the extra time and accommodation spent driving to Spain from Cherbourg with other ferries from Ireland is about the same. Do not expect anything nice about this ferry journey though. No frills means no frills. Be prepared. There's a self service restaurant. We got a hot breakfast and a dinner and will avoid on our way back. It's not too overpriced considering you have no other options, especially if you get a meal deal, but it tastes like it was made yesterday and left under a heater since then. Eggs at breakfast had a nasty film on them, the bacon was ham, I'm not sure where the sausages came from. I had salmonfor dinner and it was like I had just reheated my frozen salmon from the day before. Cabins were fine, shower on the small side but only one small towel per person. It has a shower gel shampoo dispenser. Not many places to wander around the ship, just the cabin and bar/restaurant area. Bar service was decent, sold a few snacks you could get whenever such as prepacked sandwiches, crisps and nuts, useful when the food doesn't look so appetising and when the shop isn't open (the tiny shop opens for an hour 3/4 times a day) Free WiFi is good to send text only WhatsApp, good luck with sending photos. A little bit of browsing if you're patient enough. There are 3 paid premium options for WiFi between €5-25 which we didn't bother with. Overall, an ok experience. Gets you from A to B without the extra driving, just bring lots of your own entertainment like a downloaded Netflix backlog or books. Also snacks and extra drinking water, as there's no information to show if it's ok to drink the stuff in the cabin and the bar staff seemed reluctant to give me tap water when I asked. And make sure you've got your Europe adapter if you're coming from the UK. If you're lucky you might come across some dolphins on the way like our boat did!

plymouth santander boat trips

We were a little apprehensive having never taken the ferry over to Northern Spain before. However, having had a smooth journey across the Bay of Biscay in Cap Finistere, we arrived in Santander bang on time the following afternoon. We booked a standard four bunk cabin for the two of us as the superior cabins had all been taken by the time we booked. It was a little cramped but had everything we needed and the bathroom, including decent sized shower, was fine. There are various bars on board, with a cafe and shop, but only one restaurant. It is worth queuing up to book a table at the restaurant as availability goes quickly, and you can’t pre-book. This was the most impressive part of the trip. The quality of the food in the restaurant was really very good. Beautiful shellfish soup with coconut and lemon grass, roasted sturgeon and even a grand marnier soufflé to finish. Reasonable wine list as well in terms of choice and price - bottle of Chablis was c £20. Managed to see some dolphins on the way over and watched a movie in the cinema room. All in all a very pleasant way to cruise down to Spain and start our driving tour back up to the UK.

We travelled on the Pont Aven from Santander to Portsmouth There was a problem with the boat so we docked at Plymouth This meant travelling for an extra four hours to get to our location once we had docked No joke with two large dogs in the car who had been on the ferry for 24 hours Booked to come back to Spain Now one week before our departure we get an email to say ferry will not leave from Portsmouth but from Plymouth as the problem not fixed!! Instead of a journey of four hours to the port it’s now eight hours!! No compensation offered - yes a refund but it’s impossible to book anything else with the summer holidays approaching!!
