safe journey dog boarding

I’ve been sending my young pup to Safe Journey for daycare about 4 days a week since August as well as for periodic boarding. He loves going and has been great for his socialization. The hours are great and offer a decent amount of flexibility for my schedule. Also, the staff is friendly and seem to genuinely care about my dog. All in all, I’ve been very satisfied with the quality, especially for the cost. It’s a great value. I plan to continue sending my dog here!

My friend was taken ill and I could not take his dog into my house. On a moments notice Safe Journey Dog Boarding said that they would take Jack the dog in for the night. They were truly concerned about Jack. Thank you!

Erin Johnson

The girl at the front desk was nice. It’s really dirty. I didn’t feel safe leaving my dog there, but he’s little.

Rebekah Roberson

I wanted to take my Loki some place where he could roam free and wouldn't be confined all day, but I was apprehensive because he is a pandemic pup and really hasn't been around many new people, let alone other dogs. I appreciate their process of requiring a play date, first, to ensure he will acclimate. They also start new pups in a green room with a smaller group of dogs to help the transition. The play date went well and he was cleared for boarding. When we came back for his boarding stay, he was so excited to see her that it put my mind at ease. I also love that she lives on-site so there is always someone there with my pup. He just finished his first boarding stay, over Labor Day weekend, and I was pleasantly surprised to see how well he adjusted to being back home!! He was super happy to see me, but wasn't clingy or withdrawn, as can happen when they have been stressed. I feel fortunate to have found Safe Journey and will not hesitate to use their services again!

My dog was there for 7 days and when picked her up her eyes were watery she was eating like never ate while was there. She was so tired and weak. Not sure what happened there going to the Vet tomorrow. Not recommended at all.

????Good place to watch your fur baby!

Laura Schaefer

Called in for the first time and had someone answered with a tone. Sounds they been overworked. Take care of your employees if that’s the case.

jasmin martinez

I have nothing negative to say about them. Only thing is that i wish they were closer to Troutdale. I absolutely love bringing my dog here. He always comes home very very tired. You can tell that the staff here is very knowledgeable about what they're doing as well. I drop him off before work or a trip and i leave with a peace of mind. i appreciate how they try to accommodate my schedule as well. I also love how they don't kennel their dogs. My dog has terrible separation anxiety and a kennel would not be a good time for him. I really appreciate this business, and the staff that can make it all happen. I will be recommending them to anyone who needs a great doggy day care.

David Moody

Qualified dog people, at a great place for non-aggressive dogs.

Martin Lassen

They allowed a pitbull to attack and KILL my mini schnauzer while in their care. I would not recommend you trust your pets life in their hands.

Athul K. Acharya

Very accommodating and our dog always seems to have a good time here.

Janet Moore

Great place for a dog to spend the day playing. Loving attentive staff. Highly recommend

Simplicity itself. Best place to have a doggy daycare. Staff is great and they really care about the dogs

My dog had the time of his life! She sent me pictures to show me how much fun he was having. A great way to have your dog socialize with other dogs. Peace of mind when you need quality boarding!

Tina Gilmore

I'm a dog breeder of golden retrievers and I highly recommend them!! I will use them again.

I feel completely at ease when I bring my dog, Buddy. He actually looks forward to seeing his friends.

Great customer service whether you are a dog or a human! We've been taking our pup here 2-3 times a week for almost a year now. She has some mobility issues and they have been very accommodating. Being part of the pack has helped her build confidence and be a happier dog all around. Can't recommend this place enough.

ERICH MASON

Yeah I give this place 5 Stars they make my puppy's happy Julie is awesome always happy to see the girls and the rest of team I'm very happy so far ????????????????????????. Christy and Craig. Thank you I've had a good experience the puppies are the most important things my fur babies are my family like many of us . if they're happy and which they always are ???????????????? always got a big ear to ear grin tells me everything is rock and roll yes I highly recommend this place so if you need a place to take your puppies 7 days a week to make things happen so give them a call if you're in a pinch or just need to take care of things and don't want to have to worry about the puppies in the car to be by themselves some place. give them a call old Baron definitely recommended highly

I have boarded my dog, Indigo, at Safe Journey twice now and have been pleased both times. The staff are always friendly and responsive. The rates are fair. The building itself is very colorful and charming. Most importantly, the dogs are able to roam freely inside and outside for most of the day, offering them time to socialize and explore. Indigo has returned home happy both times. I highly recommend Safe Journey for dog boarding!

iris hofmeister

My little boy Gandalf loved it at Safe Journey! They keep you updated with pictures and they don't mind if you call to see how your fur-baby is doing. The pack invorment is just what he needs. He made a friend named Merlin. They had many adventures together. #WizardBros

We dropped off our pup Luna for an evaluation day. The lady that got her from the front seemed really nice. They wouldn’t let us in at all which was a little strange, stating that the owner lives there and has concerns of COVID. While I definitely understand that, this is a place of business, not just someone’s home. We are leaving our fur baby to someone that won’t even let us inside. I read one random review commenting that they didn’t hear any dogs barking which made me realize we hadn’t either. They said they had about 30 dogs and it was basically an old town home turned into the day care, so you would think with that many dogs in a small location on a city street that you would at least hear something. All this just seemed like red flags. We will not be taking our dog back. Again, no real issues with our experience, but just wanted to write this for others to see and think about. I read some reviews from 1+ years ago about the owner sedating the dogs without owner approval. While I’m not sure if that is still an issue, it was just another red flag for us.

My dog Groot loves going to safe journey. The staff are super friendly and my dog always leaves with a pep in his step.

larry hogueisson

Always take great care of my dog. Have 4 4 years plus.

My puppy had the time of his little life! The staff is very caring and the concept is brilliant. I'm grateful to have found such a wonderful place to take my baby when I need to be away.

I have been taking my husky to safe journey for five years, ever since he was a puppy. In a sense, they helped me raise my dog, considering how much time he has spent there. Excellent care for dogs including open spaces for the dogs to exercise, he always comes home tired and happy. He sleeps pretty much the entire next day too, definitely get your money’s worth. The staff and personable and very receptive to any concerns. Highly recommend day care and boarding service!

Shannon Todd Roth

Safe Journey was our first experience with dog boarding, and we’re so happy to have a found a spot so flexible, reasonably priced and experienced. We really appreciated the thorough orientation we received and know that our dog is in great hands!

Kenneth Nourse

My dog just loves it there!

Sarah Adkins

We've been taking our dog here since 2016 and we couldn't be happier with the level of service we receive. Our dog, Xena, loves staying here because she never gets kenneled and can run around with a pack of dogs all day long. They are also extremely accommodating when we need to drop her off early, or if we need to leave her overnight on the fly. Great service! 100% recommend!

Great place! Very accommodating and I think they really care about the dags.

Stephanie Holt

The staff were very accommodating with our last minute request to drop the dogs off for a couple hours so we could explore Portland. The place is small but clean. The dogs seemed content when we picked them up.

WARNING!! Multiple Dead dogs, abused and beaten dogs, starved and dehydrated dogs, dogs who have been killed by other dogs and possibly killled by employees or the owner and not even notified of injuries and attacks as well as SHOCK COLARS. Read the dozens of reviews yourself.....again read ALL of them. Multiple reviews of drugged dogs. I live only 1 block away from this house, it looks scary and I welcoming but I didn't realize at first. So My girlfriend and I walked up to the front door and knocked, 3 hours before their closing time and a lady opened the door to a pitch black house (completely black) with ZERO noise of dogs. She was extremely rude and made it very clear we were not welcome. She asked us to leave. We showed up to ask questions as I have a new puppy. She was pissed that we knocked on the door and after this experience I felt the urge to read online about this place. Newspaper articles, dozens of reviews of dogs dying, being sick, young healthy puppies with black eyes, gashes, bloody, skinny and shaking. Please please please for the love of your puppy don't take them to this place. I'm going to report them and next time someone should call the police. They also refuse to let people look at their facility, backyard, the rooms or the other dogs. Many people have tried and been turned down. P.s yelp reviews are even more scary. Karmas a bitch and some day this will catch up to the guy who owns the place and the lady working there.

I picked up my dog today and I noticed her left eye was swollen. When I asked the owner (Craig Capley)about her eye, he completely disregarded it and showed no concern at all. He had no idea what had happened to my dog because the people who work at this day care don't seem to care about the dogs they are supposed to look after. The name of this dog care place is misleading as it is not a safe place where to bring your dog. Out of concern for my dog, I called the owner after getting home to get information of the dog that injured mine, in case my dog needed vet assistance, he called me crazy for asking about information that I have the right to obtain for my dog's safety. As a result, I believe many of the dogs are not vaccinated and that is why he became angry. I do not recommend this place for your dog as their costumer service is terrible and they will not safely care for your dog. There has also been a couple times that I have noticed my dog being really hungry after being in their care (other reviews have also mentioned this)

Something is up with this place. I used to take my dog here and he dreaded it. He hated going in there. I thought maybe he just hated being boarded in general. Then one day he came home with a puncture wound in his ear. The staff never told us about or explained it at all. That was enough to never bring him back. We switched to a different boarder/ daycare. It turns out he doesn't hate being boarded, he just hated Safe Journey. He's been going to his current boarding/daycare for about 6 months and he loves it. He walks right in. So, I would urge you not to take your dogs here and don't make the same mistake I did.

I just called to get some information and the person on the phone sounded completely disinterested and was unhelpful. Didn't instill confidence as a business.

Photo of Joanna S.

My dog Shadow, a happy well-behaved, well-trained and well-socialized dog stayed with them Friday night through Sunday night. When I got him back, Shadow was not himself. I called 10 minutes before I picked him up and Craig said "is that the one with docked tail?" I replied, "no. No docked tail, no docked ears. He is a black pit lab mix." When I got there I waited about 15 mins, which was a little long considering I gave them a heads up 10 mins prior. Craig said, "he was running around.." When Shadow finally appeared, he was walking slowly towards another room looking disoriented. I called him towards me "Shadow come." He wagged his tail and somewhat happy to see me but not his usual jolly self. Craig said, "he is a sleepy boy." He sleeps but once you wake him up, he gets up in a jiff no matter what time. He had two big gashes on his body. See pics. When I got him home he did not want to eat. I coaxed him to and he did eat a few kibbles. He never refuses food! NEVER! I then noticed he was trembling for about 10 seconds about every 10 seconds all night. Twenty minutes later, he vomited the very little food he ate. I called the day care and Craig did not know anything by saying "I got here at 4." The following morning, he still did not want to eat. We went out to potty and he had diarrhea! It was the kind that was so watery it was like he was peeing out of his ass. When I called Christina, still no explanation. She did not even take responsibility at all.

I am very upset. I picked my dog up from boarding, and she was covered in urine. Her nose was actually yellow. She is lethargic and won't eat. And when she does get up, she walks with her tail between her legs. It is COMPLETELY unlike her. She is a happy, hyperactive, 20 month old Huskimo UTD on all shots. WTF happened in there?!

Photo of Ishmael H.

My dog was sedated here. They also admitted to us that theyll have over 50+ dogs at a time with them. Thats.... Wow! Also my dog got peed on all day. Also, walking in and just getting a whif of the overwhelming foulness should have been the first red flag for me. Wish I was smarter at the time. My vet also let me know my dog is not the only one whos come in after a bad visit to this establishment. Sad... Hope an investigation takes place. Not to mention the dog that died here, but yea. A dog died there due to staff negligence... Truly a sad sad place for dogs. I pray for each dog that visits. What a sad place. Be better for the animals. The money means nothing when our babies are being mistreated. I am devestated that I even have to give this location one star.

Craig and Julia are fantastic caregivers for Tucker, my husky poodle mix. They always let me know how the day went when I stop by after work to pick him up.

Photo of Beth A.

went to pick up my dog after 1 week in hawaii- he (craig the owner) was supposed was there early in the morning- i found her locked alone in a room by herself- he said it was because she was "old and got knocked down by the other dogs" it was 830 am! she was soaking wet on her hind end, and smelled like she had been sitting in piss and semen for a week- he aoligiized for her smell, and then spin calling the next day, said that no video of what happened inside "safe journey" could be released. but the girl that works every other day said it is one person watching 45-60 dogs. she began internally bleeding soon after, was never the same, her spine and tail were injured while there i am pretty sure, and he said (his words) he "confined her to that space alone because she was old" (what?! i also have a 15 month ild dog and the older dog hikes and does everything with us still!) i had to have her put down this week, because since being boarded there she has been pooping blood, not been able to walk, bleeding internally, sick, etc... upon reading, its not the first dog that has died after being boarded here she was my life for the last 15 years and in PERFECT HEALTH when i dropped her off a few weeks ago! please come forward if you have information, i am hoping to get this place investigated- and take this man to prison. pretty sure he hurts dogs- and in a sick way! DO NOT BOARD YOuR DOG HERE!!!!!

I have been using safe journey for my last minute boarding needs for my dog Odin, for about a year now. They are always super attentive to my overly dog baring mom moments, when I request pictures by email to see how he's doing! I also always provide them with his food from home, just cuz he tends to have a sensitive stomache, which I'm thankful they give him separately when feeding all the dogs. Odin always seems to have had so much fun...he usually tuckered out for a couple days afterwards!

The average cost charged by dog boarding kennels is  $30 to $50 per night  with most pet owners spending  $40 . Weekly boarding rates start at  $150 , while monthly prices cost  $500  on average. The best boarding option for your dog will depend mainly on what’s available in your area and your personal preferences.

It happens to the best of us—we have to go out of town, and there’s no one to look after the dog. A  dog boarding service  within your budget with trained staff that cater to your pet’s needs can be found within a matter of minutes on HomeGuide. Here's everything you need to know about pet boarding prices.

Average Dog Boarding Rates

Average dog boarding rates are  $25 per day ,  $40 per night ,  $150 per week , or  $500 per month , depending on where you live, the size of your dog, and how long of a stay your pet needs.

Many boarding kennels offer special rates for 5-, 10- and 25-day stays and have discounts up to 50% when boarding multiple dogs.

Dog Boarding Cost Per Day

The average cost to board a dog by day is  $18 to $30 , or about  $15  for a 4-hour half-day. You drop your dog off in the morning, and he gets to play with other dogs his size, with a quiet time in his own kennel over the lunch period.

Most dog boarding kennels require you to pick up your pet by 6 p.m. or you’ll be charged an additional fee. If you don’t show up on time, some places lock the doors at 6 p.m. and charge you for having to board your dog for the night.

Dog Boarding Cost Per Night

The cost to board a dog overnight is about  $40 , but prices range from  $25 to $55+ , depending on the size of the room you want your dog to sleep in. Some dog boarding kennels charge  $55 to $100  per night for the luxury of having a raised bed and a TV and DVD player with theme-based décor.

Large and small dogs in a pet boarding facility

Cost of Boarding a Dog for a Week

Average dog boarding rates run about  $140 to $175 per week  for the typical kennel, with luxury dog hotels charging between  $525 and $675 . The rates to board a dog for a week go up with different choices in “suite” sizes and amenities.

Cost to Board A Dog for a Month

Monthly dog boarding rates are  $460 to $720  in a kennel or $950 to $2,600  in a luxury dog hotel, plus extra costs for whatever additional services you wish your dog to have. Long-term doggy daycare packages cost  $2,000 to $3,000  for 6 months.

Dog Boarding Rates For Multiple Dogs

Many dog owners need to board multiple dogs, or need dog boarding for more than one night. For this reason, you’ll find dog boarding kennels offering discounted rates of  10%   to 50% off  for each additional dog or for boarding for more than one night. Discounts are especially common for smaller dogs that can share a room or crate.

Dog Boarding Prices for Package Deals

Dog boarding kennels usually offer discounted rates for 5-, 10- and 25-day packages:

5-day packages cost $100 to $200

10-day packages cost $175 to $250

25-day packages cost $375 to $650

Monthly rates are $550/ regular rate to $950/ luxury rate.

Packages are an excellent investment for dog owners who are frequently traveling for work or have a long vacation coming up soon.

Dog Boarding Prices By Type

Dog kennel prices.

Dog kennel rates cost  $25 to $55 per night  on average. A dog kennel is a traditional boarding facility that includes meals, water, daily walks, playtime, and a personal crate with bedding to sleep inside.

Dog Hotel Prices

Luxury dog boarding hotels cost between  $75 and $95 per night  which include spa services, large dog “suites,” a swimming pool, online webcams, gourmet food, and large outdoor play areas. Other dog boarding kennels may offer these upgrades for an additional  $15 to $20 per night . For example, Sparta Pet Palazzo offers these amenities on a per night basis:

10 x 7 room with leather loveseat and TV – $75

16 x 13 room with a private bed, webcam, and TV – $85

20 x 20 room with webcam, leather sofa, and TV – $95

How Much Does Doggy Daycare Cost?

Doggy daycare costs about  $18 to $30 per day  or  $15 to $16  for a 4-hour half day. Long-term doggy daycare packages cost  $2,000 to $3,000  for 6 months and  $5,000 to $6,000  for a year. Instead of leaving your dog at home while you work or go shopping, consider doggy daycare.

In-Home Dog Boarding Cost

In-home boarding is another solution whereby your dog stays with a dog sitter in the sitter’s home until you’re back. Sitters are typically background checked, and prices range from  $15 to $50 per day or night  depending on the experience and qualifications of the dog sitter.

In-home boarding can give you the comfort of knowing your dog is being loved and has a comfortable home to stay in rather than living with strangers and sleeping in a locked dog or kennel alone every night. Many sitters register with the  National Association of Professional Pet Sitters  or  Pet Sitters International .

Dog Sitting Cost

Pet sitting is another option where professionals will watch your dog at your home for you for  $70 per night  for one dog, and only  $5 more  if you have two dogs. Dog visits are an option for dogs who are safe to leave home alone as long as someone checks in on them every four hours or so for a bathroom break and some cuddles. Dog sitting costs about  $25  per 30-minute visit.

While in-home dog care might feel uncomfortable to some because of giving a stranger access to your home, having someone stop by can be much less intimidating for the dog than having to stay in a crate or small room overnight elsewhere. Some house-sitting services exchange dog sitting services for being able to stay in your home for the duration, like Trusted House Sitters.

Hospital & Vet Boarding Costs

Dog boarding rates at a hospital or animal clinic don’t seem to be much different to boarding a dog anywhere else, costing about  $35 to $45  a night if the dog has no medical problems, and  $40 to $55  if s/he has medical issues or needs to be isolated because of behavioral issues.

Many animal hospitals, infirmaries, and veterinarians will offer boarding services as well, though the price tends to be a bit higher since that same space could be used for a sick pet. However, many dog owners feel more comfortable keeping their dog under the supervision of trained, experienced animal hospital or veterinary clinic staff.

Before boarding your dog at a veterinarian's office, ask if there will be staff onsite during the night. Some vet offices offer overnight boarding space but don't keep staff onsite 24 /7.

Additional Dog Boarding Fees

Dog boarding and training cost.

Dog boarding and training costs  $1,600  for a four-week block or  $500 to $1,000 per week . Dogs learn how to perform basic obedience tasks like walking without pulling, and the commands sit, stay, come, drop, etc.

Boarding and Grooming or Pet Spa

Sometimes you can drop your dog off for a few days and also get all their grooming done at the same time.  Dog grooming prices  start at  $15  up to a full groom for around  $50 . Services include shampooing, nail clipping, and anal gland expression. Many dog boarding kennels provide add-on services—some are complimentary and included in the boarding price, while others offer them for an  additional cost .

Special Needs Doggie Day Care

Some dog boarding kennels will offer specialized care for dogs who are nonsocial or need extra medical care while boarding which can cost  $45/day  and  $55/night .

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does petsmart charge for boarding.

PetSmart dog boarding rates vary by location but typically run $30 to $55 per night , depending on the room type and the factors mentioned above. PetSmart often offers discounts, such as one night free if you need a multi-night stay. However, be sure to check online reviews for this service.

How Much Does It Cost to Board a Dog for 5 Days?

Dog boarding kennels charge about  $100 to $125  to board your dog at a 5-day rate. Dog daycare is included for free in most boarding packages, and you can pay more for extra play or cuddle time.

How Do I Prepare My Dog For Boarding?

When preparing to take your dog to the kennel, remember to:

Be up to date on their vaccinations. Vaccinations need to be given no less than seven days before boarding.

Write a list of any special instructions you may have for your kennel regarding feeding times, portions for food, medical needs, your local vet's phone number, and where you can be reached.

Bag up each serving size of your dog’s food and label it with your dog’s name for the length of their stay.

Pack your dog's leashes.

Make sure your dog has a name tag.

Label medications with your dog’s name.

Drop your dog off in the morning so s/he can become accustomed to the other dogs boarding with him.

Don't forget to pack your dog's favorite toys. An old t-shirt that smells like you can also make for a great cuddle toy!

What Vaccinations Do Dogs Need For Boarding?

Dogs need proof of vaccination for Distemper, Parvo, and Bordetella (kennel cough) annually and Rabies every 1-3 years. Puppies must be ten days past their final round of distemper/parvo vaccination before kennels will accept them for boarding. Vaccinations need to be given no less than seven days before boarding. If this is the dog's first Bordetella vaccination, it must be given two weeks before boarding.

How Long Before Boarding Does Dog Need a Bordetella Shot?

In general, puppies can receive injectable Bordetella (kennel cough) vaccines between 6 and 8 weeks of age and booster shots when they're 10 to 12 weeks old. Adult dogs generally need booster vaccines for Bordetella in intervals of six months to a year. If this is the dog's first Bordetella vaccination, it must be given two weeks before boarding.

How Old Does a Dog Have to be for Boarding?

For all breeds of dogs, most certified dog kennels require the dog to be at least 4 months old (12 to 16 weeks) old because incoming puppies need to have had their first round of adult shots at 12 weeks, followed by the second round at around 16 weeks.

What is the Difference Between Dog Sitting and Boarding?

The difference between dog sitting and boarding is the length of stay and attention of care. Dog boarding is like a hotel, where it's typically an overnight stay at a kennel where your dog is around other dogs. On the other hand, a dog sitter will watch your pet at your home, or theirs. Also, they may just stop by to care for your pets two or three times per day.

While in-home dog care might feel uncomfortable to some because of giving a stranger access to your home, having someone stop by can be much less intimidating for the dog than having to stay in a crate or small room overnight with other dogs around. If you are one of those dog owners who would rather your dog be in his or her own home while you are out of town, you may want to check out local  dog sitters near you .

WHAT OUR BOARD AND TRAIN BOOT CAMP CLIENTS ARE SAYING

Lori W. Avatar

The Dog Board and Train Boot Camp

Instead of generic one hour group classes that are often ineffective, our Dog Boot Camp/Board and Train Programs are customized to your dog. They are tailored both to your training goals and your dog’s personality. This training method ensures your dog's training is much more effective since the plan is created based upon you and your dog!

What's a board and train?

With a board and train our expert trainers bring your dog inside their home. They teach them a variety of commands depending on the package you select. They will also work on ensuring your dog behaves well around the home. Your pup is then returned to you and you are taught everything they have learned and how to maintain the training and behaviors moving forward.

Ideal age for boarding and training

We offer our Dog Boot Camp Program for dogs of all ages . We see a lot of young puppies and we also frequently train older dogs as well. The idea that you cannot teach old dogs new tricks is definitely not true! If your puppy is very young we generally recommend waiting until 16 weeks before sending them to us for training. We can cover so much more with a 16 week old dog than we can with a 12 week old dog!

Professional trainers to board your dog

When looking for a dog trainer, experience matters! Every dog is different and it takes a trainer that is truly an expert to understand your dog’s unique personality. Our experienced trainers help thousands of dogs every year —each exhibiting different personalities and traits. They can handle anything from shy submissive dogs all the way to excitable dogs who are always pressing your buttons and trying to run the household! If your dog has aggression or extreme fear issues we generally recommend In-Home Training in your house as a better fit.

Board and train tailored to your dog

Here’s how we go about tailoring our Dog Boot Camp program around your pup’s needs:

Learn your dog's training needs

The first step in our Dog Boot Camp program is when you fill out our custom dog behavior questionnaire. We want to know about all of their good and bad behaviors and habits as well as your training goals. This gives us a lot of insight on your dog and allows the trainer to start creating a training plan before they even meet you!

Observe your dog in their environment

The next step is when your trainer comes to your home to pick up your dog. This way, the trainer has the opportunity to see your dog in its home environment and discuss the specifics of what you are looking for . This works so much better than the trainer first meeting your dog in a kennel environment when you drop them off. The place where your dog is most comfortable is where the trainer can get the best grasp of who your dog is. The more the trainer knows about your dog, the better they’ll be able to help address your needs. We often see things during the pick up that were not on the questionnaire and we then modify our training plan accordingly. Our goal is to have a complete understanding of your dog’s behavior in your home so that we can deliver the best training results possible!

Starting your board and train

After the pick up, your trainer takes your dog to their home and truly starts the Dog Boot Camp training process! This is a lot of fun and a lot of work for your dog and the trainer. They start working on each obedience command (heel, sit, stay, down and come) and work at the proper pace for your dog. If your dog doesn’t know any commands then they start at the teaching phase. If your dog already knows certain commands then they will immediately move to working around distractions (also known as proofing an obedience command).

The trainer also works to reinforce new behaviors with your dog . This includes things such as stopping jumping, stopping barking, stopping chewing, and teaching your dog how to live in a human household without anyone being stressed or frustrated. We address potty training/housebreaking and use our in house potty log/schedule to get your puppy or dog on the right track! This is where the dog behavior questionnaire comes in extremely handy. Your trainer will know what your goals are and will make sure to address each of your problem areas and goals. For example, if you mentioned jumping on guests as an issue, your trainer will spend a lot of time working around the front door to ensure your dog learns how to behave!

Using board and train obedience with daily life

Your trainer will also tie obedience commands into daily life. They will practice having your dog obey commands even during heavy distractions such as the doorbell ringing, guests coming in, dinnertime and being around other dogs.

Board and train socialization

Our board and train programs are great for socializing your dog. During the board and train your trainer will make trips that will be fun for your dog . These will include places like dog parks, pet stores, and other public places where you might want your dog to behave. Plan on having a lovely brunch at a dog friendly restaurant? Tell your trainer and they can work on adding this type of trip into your board and train.

Personalized go home lesson

After your dog has learned and proofed their obedience commands and learned how to behave properly in the house it is time for them to return home! Your trainer will drive your dog back to your house and stay for 2 hours for your go home session. This session is incredibly important because this is the start of your training! You will see everything your dog has learned and be taught how to maintain their new good behavior!

Training follow ups in your home

Luckily, your dog's training doesn’t stop after the go home session! With our two and three week programs you will receive two additional 1 hour training sessions in your home in the next few weeks to ensure you are fully trained! Please be aware that if you send your dog for our 1 week Boot Camp they will only receive 1 follow up training session in your home. If you want even more training, read about our board and train plus program .

Live happily with your dog

After your follow up training sessions have been completed, you and your dog will both be well trained and ready to live a happy life together. That being said, if you have any questions or concerns, we are available by phone for the life of your dog at no additional charge !

Board and train money back guarantee

We are extremely proud of our Dog Boot Camp program and know that you will be happy with the results. We stand behind our work, and our 2 week, 3 week and Plus Programs all come with a money back guarantee ! We offer this guarantee because we know we have the right mix of dog training skills, experience, and customer service to make you a customer who is satisfied for life!

Should you worry about sending your dog for a board and train?

Many of our customer's feel like their dog is a member of their family. Our trainers feel this way too and will treat your furry best friend like a member of their family. We've found that it helps customers to align board and trains with vacations. This is a time that many people will be boarding their dog anyway. In addition being on vacation gets you out of the house and staying occupied. During your dog's stay our trainers will send you updates and pictures of your dog. Helping assure you that your pup is in the safe hands of a professional. These training updates help even if you are staying home while your dog is away. Furthermore, unlike many smaller dog trainers our company is insured and has years of happy clients to back up our reputation. Still not convinced? Our In-Home training is a great option where your dog stays at home with you and you can decide how involved in each lesson you'd like to be.
