How to Schedule Punta Cana Excursions & Tours Before Arriving

  • Last updated on: 2022-11-16

Canopy Zip Line Excursion from Punta Cana

With so many exciting excursions, tours, and activities to choose from, a trip to Punta Cana can be a lot of fun. However, if you plan ahead and schedule your Punta Cana excursions and tours before you arrive, you can ensure that you book the right one at the right time, allowing you to have the best time while also saving money!

Determine which tour or excursion you wish to experience

Punta Cana offers a diverse range of activities. The possibilities are endless, ranging from nightclubs such as Coco Bongo and incredible excursions, off-road tours, sightseeing, and other activities that are popular in Punta Cana . There is never a shortage of things to do in this tropical paradise.

Zip lining through lush forests, horseback riding on the beach, snorkeling, or scuba diving are the most popular things to do in Punta Cana for both kids and adults.

You’ll be able to find what you’re looking for here, whether you want something adventurous like an off-road tour or something more relaxed like a city tour.

There are many tour operators, who provide you with options for a memorable trip. Whether you want a big day of activities, a relaxing beach vacation, or something in between—they will be happy to assist you in planning your dream holiday in Punta Cana .

Research the activities available in Punta Cana

By researching your Punta Cana tours and excursions to learn about the areas they’ll visit, you can decide what’s best for you. However, this does not imply that you must be completely informed before making a reservation.

Begin with a general idea of what excursions pique your interest, and then check to see if any are available on your dates, with pickups at your resort, and during the time frame that works best for you. Pro tip: we can help you with that. Check out our excursions.

Read reviews on excursions you’re considering to see what others have to say about them. If a tour appeals to you then don’t hesitate to make a reservation. Excursions will fill up quickly so it is important to book as soon as possible.

Make a list of the main excursion or tour highlights

Excursions and tours are a great way to learn about Punta Cana and the Dominican Republic’s culture. We believe that planning your excursions before you arrive is a must!

You can go sailing, snorkeling, deep sea fishing, horseback riding, visit a cave such as Hoyo Azul , or zipline through the forest . It’s entirely up to you!

During your research, note which excursions sound interesting and add them to your list of things, you want to do in Punta Cana .

Writing down the highlights of each activity is a great practice. This will allow you to compare the choices available and better help you book an excursion or tour that matches your interests.

Determine which Punta Cana excursions and tours are available on specific days

Before you schedule your Punta Cana activities , keep in mind that not every tour or excursion operates seven days a week. Some are available only on certain days, some only in certain months. For example, the Dune Buggies tour operates daily while the Samana Whale Watching tour from Punta Cana only operates on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Knowing when each Punta Cana activity is available will help you plan your vacation days more effectively.

If you’re not sure what tours or excursions are available for your dates, check our Excursion Catalog for a reliable and up-to-date calendar as well as exact pickup times from every Punta Cana resort.

Ensure excursions you want to schedule are within your budget.

Punta Cana is an island paradise with many things to do. However, there are some tours and excursions that are more expensive than others. The good news is that no matter what your budget, you can find something fun and exciting.

It all boils down to what you’re looking for. Punta Cana has something for everyone, whether you’re looking for high-end luxury excursions or off-the-beaten-path adventures.

The best part is that you can find something within your price range. Punta Cana offers a variety of activities at various price points.

Some of the most popular excursions in Punta Cana, along with their prices, are as follows:

Check out these things to do in Punta Cana

Check the excursion’s availability against your travel dates.

Before you start planning an excursion, make sure you can schedule it in your desired timeframe. Excursions, believe it or not, do sell out, especially during peak season. This is why we at Punta Cana Adventures recommend that you book your excursions in advance.

If you try to book an excursion at the last minute, you may find that it is already sold out on the desired day. If a guest books a tour and then cancels, or if someone else does not show up for their tour, those spaces may become available again if they are not booked. In this case (s), you might be able to secure your spot, but it’s a bit like gambling.

You might consider booking your excursions through your hotel, but it’s not always guaranteed that you’ll get a spot on that specific day. Booking an excursion with a company like Punta Cana Adventures is your best bet. We specialize in pre-planning your activities in Punta Cana before you arrive.

Since the introduction of our “ Reserve Now & Pay Later ” option, it is now easier than ever to plan your Punta Cana excursions ahead of time. All you have to do is tell us which activities you want to do and when you want to do them. We’ll handle everything else!

Schedule your Punta Cana Excursions

We’ve compiled a list of all Punta Cana resorts and hotels to assist you in determining which activities are available as well as the exact pickup time at that hotel.

To schedule your activity, follow these steps:

  • Navigate to our Tour Hotel Pickups page
  • Find your hotel
  • Select your activities
  • Choose the activity date
  • Add the number of participants
  • Find and select your hotel

It is as simple as that!

Pro tip: When you book with us, you can schedule your Punta Cana excursions and tours without having to pay right away! Select our “ Reserve Now & Pay Later ” option during checkout.

We’ll be happy to help you schedule your Punta Cana excursions and tours before you arrive. Whether you want a full day of activities, a relaxing beach vacation, or something in between.

We hope we were able to direct you in the right direction and provide answers to your questions. If not, please contact us for more information on things to do in Punta Cana !

Best Times To Visit Punta Cana

The best time to visit Punta Cana is from December to April when the dry season in Punta Cana is at its peak. Luckily, the weather is warm year-round, with average highs around 80 degrees Fahrenheit. But keep in mind: The Dominican Republic experiences some of the effects of the Atlantic hurricane season, which lasts from June 1 to Nov. 30. Punta Cana is often spared from severe tropical storms, but the rainiest months are September and October. Still, this area of the Dominican Republic stays crowded no matter the season. If you're looking for the best time to visit in terms of the lowest prices and decent weather, May, June, November and December (up until Christmas) are the best months.

What season is summer in Punta Cana?

When we think of Punta Cana , images of idyllic beaches with white sands and crystal-clear waters come to mind, a tropical paradise that seems to be perpetually bathed by the sun. But have you ever wondered what is really the best season to enjoy this Caribbean destination? Located on the eastern coast of the Dominican Republic, Punta Cana is a destination that attracts travelers from all over the world, not only for its breathtaking scenery but also for its warm and pleasant climate. However, as in any tropical paradise, the weather in Punta Cana varies throughout the year, offering different experiences depending on the season you decide to visit.

In this article, we'll explore the particularities of Punta Cana's weather, unraveling the secrets of its seasons and providing essential tips so you can plan your vacation at the perfect time. From the warm summer breezes to the cooler, drier conditions of winter, every time of year has its unique charm in this corner of the Caribbean .

What are the best months to go to Punta Cana?

Determining the best months to visit Punta Cana depends largely on what you are looking for in your vacation. If your idea of a perfect vacation includes enjoying the sun and tropical heat, then the months of June through October are ideal. During this period, temperatures hover around 30 degrees Celsius , creating the perfect environment for relaxing on the beaches and participating in a variety of water activities.

However, it is important to note that these months also coincide with the rainy season in the region. Although the rains are usually brief and do not significantly affect travel plans, it is something to consider when planning your itinerary. On the other hand, if you prefer drier weather and slightly cooler temperatures, the months of December through April are ideal. This time of year is perfect for exploring the island without the intense summer heat and with less chance of rain.

For those interested in avoiding the high season and looking for a quieter experience, the months of May and November can be an excellent option. During these months, Punta Cana tends to be less crowded, allowing you to enjoy its natural beauty and tourist attractions more leisurely.

For more detailed information on when to travel to Punta Cana and what to expect in each season, feel free to read our full article on the best time to travel to Punta Cana . Here you will find useful tips and recommendations to plan your perfect trip to this Caribbean destination.

When does the hurricane season start?

Hurricane season in Punta Cana and the Caribbean in general runs from June through November , with peak activity generally between August and September. During these months, the region can experience an increase in adverse weather conditions , including strong winds and heavy rains. Although outright hurricanes are relatively rare in Punta Cana due to its geographic location, it is important to be aware of potential storms and how they may affect your travel plans.

For travelers, this means it is crucial to be informed and prepared . Many resorts and tour operators in Punta Cana are well equipped to handle these conditions, with safety protocols and contingency plans in place. In addition, most establishments offer flexible cancellation or rescheduling policies during this season, providing peace of mind to visitors.

Despite the possibility of storms, many travelers choose to visit Punta Cana during these months because of the advantages, such as smaller crowds and lower prices. With careful planning and an eye on the weather, you can enjoy all that Punta Cana has to offer, even during hurricane season.

For a deeper understanding of what hurricane season in Punta Cana entails and how to properly prepare, we invite you to read our detailed article on hurricanes in Punta Cana . Here you will find valuable information that will help you make informed decisions for your trip.

What is the summer temperature in the Dominican Republic?

Summer in the Dominican Republic, especially in destinations like Punta Cana, is s ynonymous with tropical heat and sunny days . During the summer months, which run from June to September, average temperatures in the region usually range between 28 and 32 degrees Celsius. These warm temperatures, combined with the Caribbean sea breeze, create the perfect environment for an ideal beach vacation.

However, it is important to remember that summer also brings with it an increase in humidity , which can make temperatures feel higher than they really are. The First Look: Corales Puntacana Championship

The First Look

Change Text Size

This week, the PGA TOUR will once again host an Additional Event, the Corales Puntacana Championship.

The Corales Golf Course is a tricky venue – especially when the wind blows – but it is chock-full of stunning vistas, too.

Here’s everything you need to know from Puntacana.

FIELD NOTES: Nicolai Højgaard heads from the Masters to Corales Puntacana, where he nearly broke through for his maiden TOUR title a year ago. Højgaard had the lead at the first major of the season last week before stumbling home Saturday with five straight bogeys. Alas, he’s back in action this week after his T16 at Augusta National… Francesco Molinari will make his debut at Corales Puntacana. The former winner of the Claret Jug will tee it up for the sixth time on TOUR this season… Billy Horschel will also make his Puntacana debut. Horschel has two top-10s on the season and two more top-20s… Past champ Joel Dahmen returns to Corales Puntacana looking for a new spark to his season. Dahmen finished tied for 11th at THE PLAYERS but comes into the week after two missed cuts in Texas. Dahmen won the 2021 edition in Puntacana… Seven years ago Nate Lashley won at Corales Puntacana when it was a Korn Ferry Tour event and comes into the week after three straight made cuts – including a T13 at TPC Sawgrass. Lashley also finished T3 at the Farmers Insurance Open earlier this year.

SPONSOR EXEMPTIONS: Alex Fitzpatrick is back in the field at a PGA TOUR event while his brother, Matt, defends his title at the RBC Heritage. Fitzpatrick finished in the top 20 in both the Zurich Classic of New Orleans (where he teamed with Matt) and at The Open Championship, where he finished T17. Fitzpatrick, who starred alongside Matt in the second season of Netflix’s “Full Swing” docuseries, has four top-25 finishes on the DP World Tour this season… Joseph Deraney earned his way into his second PGA TOUR event after winning the Devil’s Elbow Invitational by two shots last November. The native of Kentucky is the reigning Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur champion. He also won the title in 2019, becoming just the second American in the tournament’s history to take the title… Thriston Lawrence , who has two runner-up results on the DP World Tour this season, will play his first TOUR event of 2024. He played six times last year, finding the weekend at both the PGA Championship and The Open Championship… There’s a foursome of Latin-American golfers teeing it up at Corales Puntacana as well, featuring Juan Jose Guerra, with Guillermo Pumarol and Julio Santos playing the event for the fifth time, while Hiram Silfa is playing it for the seventh time… Other sponsor exemptions include TOUR winners D.A. Points, Nick Watney, Jason Dufner and Wesley Bryan, along with George McNeill, Jeff Overton, Ricky Barnes and Erik Compton.

MONDAY QUALIFIERS: The Monday Qualifier for the Corales Puntacana Championship was played on April 8 at Plantation Preserve Golf Course & Club in Plantation, Florida… Thomas Longbella was the medalist with a 9-under 62. Longbella has made one prior PGA TOUR start (last year’s Corales Puntacana Championship, which he also Monday qualified for). He competed on PGA TOUR Canada in 2022 and 2023… Ryan Celano of Naples, Florida, made seven birdies and zero bogeys and got into a PGA TOUR field for the first time. He has caddied for various TOUR members in the past… Chase Johnson made seven birdies and one bogey to earn his third PGA TOUR start of the season. Johnson also competed at The Genesis Invitational on the Charlie Sifford Memorial Exemption and the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches on a sponsor invite… Brandon Berry also made seven birdies and one bogey in the qualifier – including a run of six straight circles on the scorecard. This will be his first PGA TOUR start. He holds a bachelor's degree in finance and, impressively, an MBA from Loyola University Maryland.

SIGNATURE EVENT STORYLINES: The Corales Puntcana Championship marks the first event in the Aon Swing 5 for point-earners looking to get a spot in the Wells Fargo Championship – the others being the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and the AT&T Byron Nelson… The RBC Heritage, played alongside the Corales Puntacana Championship, is the fifth Signature Event of the season.

COMCAST BUSINESS TOUR TOP 10 UPDATES: After his Masters victory, Scottie Scheffler kept a stranglehold on the top spot of the TOUR TOP 10. He now has twice as many points as Wyndham Clark at No. 2… Scheffler’s 1,660-point lead is the largest with 16 weeks left in the regular season since 2009… Xander Schauffele , who finished eighth at the Masters, moved up a spot from No. 4 to No. 3… Ludvig Åberg , on the back of his incredible runner-up in his Masters debut, jumped from No. 8 to No. 4 in the standings… Will Zalatoris jumped into the TOUR TOP 10 after his Masters top 10. He zipped from No. 16 to No. 10, bumping Stephan Jaeger outside the TOUR TOP 10… Chris Kirk and Byeong Hun An remain the only two golfers to be inside the TOUR TOP 10 every week so far this season.

FEDEXCUP: Winner receives 300 FedExCup points.

COURSE: Corales Golf Course, par 72, 7,670 yards. One of the longest courses on the PGA TOUR, the course – opened in 2010 and designed by Tom Fazio – is open off the tee but features difficult green complexes and, often, a challenging wind. The course boasts six oceanside holes and plenty of natural beauty. The "Devil’s Elbow," the closing three-hole stretch at Corales Puntacana, will once again be in the spotlight.

72-HOLE RECORD : 264, Dominic Bozzelli (2016 Korn Ferry Tour); as PGA TOUR event: 269, Matt Wallace (2023)

18-HOLE RECORD: 62, Stephan Jaeger (second round, 2016 Korn Ferry Tour), Scott Harrington (second round, 2016 Korn Ferry Tour), Alexandre Rocha (third round, 2016 Korn Ferry Tour); as PGA TOUR event: 63, Brice Garnett (first round, 2018), Chip McDaniel (fourth round, 2019), Akshay Bhatia (second round, 2023)

LAST TIME: Matt Wallace made four straight birdies on the back nine last season at Corales Puntacana and won by one shot over Nicolai Højgaard, the 54-hole leader. Wallace opened with a bogey on the par-3 second but clawed his way back with two straight birdies immediately afterward. His 6-under 66 Sunday was tied for the low round of the day. Højgaard had a 20-foot birdie try on the 72nd hole that would have forced a playoff, but it missed on the low side. He won in his 80th start on the PGA TOUR. Tyler Duncan and Sam Stevens tied for third, while Austin Eckroat rounded out the top five.

Here's the prize money payout for each golfer at the 2024 Corales Puntacana Championship

B illy Horschel jumped out to an early scorching start with four birdies on the first five holes Sunday to quickly take the lead, one he would never relinquish. Horschel then added another four birdies and an eagle to his scorecard to shoot a final-round 63 and win the Corales Puntacana Championship for his eighth PGA Tour title. The 63 also matched a course record at the Corales course at Puntacana Resort in the Dominican Republic.

Horschel, 37, followed 67-69 with 66-63 over the weekend to end at 23-under-total, two shots ahead of Wesley Bryan, who was looking to go wire-to-wire while playing on a sponsor exemption this week. It was his best finish on tour since 2017.

This marks the sixth time in the previous seven playings of the event that the winner has been in his 30s. Horschel also earned $720,000 from the overall $4 million purse. Bryan earned $436,000.

For Horschel, it was his first victory since the Memorial in 2022, where he topped Aaron Wise by four shots that week.

"This game of golf's so fickle, I think you can put a lot into it and get everything you want out of it," Horschel said. "But I knew in my 14 years, 13 years previously on the PGA Tour that I had the ability, I had the talent, I just needed to continue to work hard and do the right things and continue to believe that good stuff was going to come to the forefront at some point in time."

Horschel was asked about winning an opposite field event for the first time in his career. He was not in the signature events as he finished last season ranked No. 90 in FedEx Cup standings. He entered this week ranked 83rd in the World Ranking, having missed the cut at his last start, the Valero Texas Open two weeks ago.

"The PGA Tour has a lot of tournaments and it's tough for every tournament to get their due," he said. "Opposite field events have been crucial for a lot of players coming up the ranks. Look at Tony Finau, Viktor Hovland winning in Puerto Rico, Matt Wallace won this. So listen, it's another opportunity to play, it's another opportunity to become a better player, to get that win on the PGA Tour.

Also of note, twin brothers Parker and Pierceson Coody both finished inside the top 20. Parker opened with a first-round 66 and ended tied for sixth place at 16 under par. Pierceson opened with consecutive rounds of 67 and tied for 18th place at 12 under par, four shots behind his brother.

Punta Cana Private Transfer Treat

My husband and I, along with a couple of our best friends, just returned from a trip to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. We booked a private transfer with Seasons Transfers/Tours through our resort. Our driver was patiently waiting when we finally made it through Immigration. I feared he may have given up on us because it was an extremely long line, but he was very professional and, of course, kept up with the flight details. He was driving a black Suburban. It was very clean and spacious, easily accommodating the four of us, as well as our luggage. Our driver, Randy, was very friendly and welcoming. He opened the doors and lifted the seats for us, offered us refreshing cold towels and water and/or a cold beer. Once we accquainted ourselves with their local rules of the road (or lack thereof) we sat back and enjoyed the ride. We had a few good laughs and, I feel sure, made it to our resort in record time. I will definitely use Seasons Transfers again.

Seasons Tours made our commute from the airport to the hotel very easy. Our drivers were very nice and carried on great conversations with my husband and me. I highly recommend using this service!

I would expect at 100.00 for a 20 minute ride the driver could have at least opened my door. He was too busy

I am sorry to see that your transfer was disappointing. I would like to get more information about you transfers Could you please let us know the Resort where you stayed and the traveling dates in order to improve our service? If you prefer, my email is [email protected] My name is Pere and I am the General Manager Thanks for your cooperation Kind regards Pere

Comfortable trip to/from EPM. Drivers were most courteous and professional. Will not hesitate to use again

Thank you so much for your kind words It will be our pleasure to serve you again in your next trip to any of the Excellence Group Resorts in Mexico, Punta Cana or Jamaica Kind regards Pere Estela General Manager

Excellent Service. This luxury SUV transfer was included in our Penthouse Suite at the Beloved Hotel. Driver was amazing, and greeted us with a huge smile. Driver was ready at the airport and waiting for us to arrive, process was smooth and quick, then we were off to The Beloved. The only downside is we were going to another property after and not back to the airport and it was like pulling teeth to get a rate to the other property and was fine with paying the difference. Needless to say they never got back to us on this....

We chose two Seasons tours to go on last week. The first went to Chichen Itza (one of the seven wonders of the world), swimming in the cenote, and visiting one of the old town squares. We left around 7:30 am and returned around 6 pm. It was full day, but an entertaining and memorable experience. They provided water, soda, and cool towels on the small chartered van of around 14 people. It was intimate and the tour guide was fun and informative. The second excursion was a tour to Isla Mujeres. The crew was an absolute blast and so entertaining! We got on a catamaran and enjoyed an open bar on our way to snorkeling before arriving at the island. Once we reached the island, we were free to explore as we pleased for a few hours. We rented a golf cart and were off! There are many things to see including Dolphin Discovery, a sea turtle aquarium, an ice bar, and some great views!

Billy Horschel wins PGA Tour event amid historic finish, but there’s a catch

Corales Puntacana Championship - Final Round

Eleven months ago, after the first round of the Memorial Tournament, Billy Horschel stood in front of the media and fought back tears as he talked about his lack of confidence.

He had just fired a 12-over 84, which served as a metaphor for his struggles throughout the 2023 season. Horschel missed 10 cuts a year ago, which led to him missing out on the FedEx Cup Playoffs .

As such, Horschel did not meet the qualification requirements to play in this week’s RBC Heritage —the fifth Signature Event of the 2024 season . But he still wanted to play, knowing that his game was trending in the right direction.

So, he teed it up at the Corales Puntacana Championship in the Dominican Republic, an opposite full-field event.

The decision paid off.

Corales Puntacana Championship

Horschel began the final round three strokes behind Wesley Bryan, but he stormed past him and all the others to win by two. The former Florida Gator signed for a 9-under 63, which tied the course record, to win for the first time on the PGA Tour since the 2022 Memorial.

“This game of golf is so fickle. I think you can put a lot into it and get everything you want out of it,” Horschel said after his win on Sunday.

“But I knew in my 14 years, 13 years previously on the PGA Tour, that I had the ability, I had the talent. I just needed to continue to work hard, do the right things, and continue to believe that good stuff was going to come to the forefront at some point in time.”

Even though his victory did not come against the likes of Scottie Scheffler , Wyndham Clark , Rory McIlroy, or any other elite PGA Tour players, Horschel still holds this win—and other opposite field events—in high regard.

“The PGA Tour has a lot of tournaments, and it’s tough for every tournament to get its due. Opposite-field events have been crucial for many players coming up the ranks,” Horschel explained.

“Look at Tony Finau, Viktor Hovland winning in Puerto Rico, Matt Wallace won this. So listen, it’s another opportunity to play, it’s another opportunity to become a better player, to get that win on the PGA Tour. These events are crucial to the PGA Tour in the sense of the growth of the development of the players on the PGA Tour.”

Horschel’s victory in the Dominican Republic vaults him from 76th to 45th in the FedEx Cup rankings. The top 70 players earn entry into the FedEx Cup Playoffs, so yes, this win carries significant weight.

But Horschel would not have been able to finish the job without his strong psyche and ability to handle pressure down the stretch.

“I don’t like talking about myself but growing up, I always wanted the ball when I was a pitcher; I always wanted to be the guy at battle trying to drive in the winning run; I always wanted to have it on me,” Horschel explained.

“I think growing up and having that mentality, I have grown into Ioving being in the lead. I love having that spotlight on me; I love having everything on me, knowing that if I mess up, it’s my fault, and I am the one who can control my destiny. I’ve always been really good up near the lead, and today, I showed that a little bit.”

Horschel made five birdies on the front nine to soar toward the top of the leaderboard at the midway point of his round. True to himself, he did not fold down the stretch, but rather, he thrived. His eagle at the par-5 12th gave him a two-shot lead with six holes to play, and he never relinquished it.

Wesley Bryan birdies final hole for a 1-shot lead heading into final round in Dominican Republic

  • Copy Link copied

PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic (AP) — Wesley Bryan finished a wild round of birdies and bogeys with one last birdie Saturday to break a tie with a 2-under 70, giving him a one-shot lead over Kevin Tway going into the last round of the suddenly wide-open Corales Puntacana Championship.

Bryan opened the tournament with a 63 and has a chance to become only the second player to go wire-to-wire on the PGA Tour this year. It just didn’t feel that way.

Bryan lost the lead on the third hole with a two-shot swing — Bryan made bogey, Justin Lower made birdie — and fell two shots behind at one point until three birdies over a four-hole stretch around the turn on the Corales course to regain the lead at wind-swept Puntacana Resort.

By the end of the round, Bryan had only six pars to go along with seven birdies and five bogeys. The last birdie put him at 17-under 199, tying the 54-hole tournament record.

“The birdie at the last was nice. It was nice to see a putt drop,” Bryan said. “I missed a lot of really short putts — there’s really no hiding it. But I felt like right when it was starting to teeter, I would make a nice putt. And the one on the last was nice.”

Tway had a 66 and was one shot behind, with Lower (71) and Taylor Pendrith of Canada (65) another shot behind.

Bryan had a one-shot lead over Lower at the start, and the next player was three shots further back. The day ended with 10 players separated by four shots going into the final round, a group that includes Phoenix Open runner-up Charley Hoffman and Bill Haas, each with a 69.

Tway got into the mix by using his Oklahoma roots to manage the wind and steadily move up the leaderboard. He was 7 under for his round through 12 holes and at one point had the lead until his streak of 50 straight holes without a bogey this week ended on the par-4 15th.

Maybe that was just as well by the sound of it.

“It’s in the back of your mind like, ‘Hey, haven’t made a bogey yet’ and every time you have an 8-footer you’re kind of thinking,” Tway said. “Yeah, I figured I was going to make one bogey, so it was kind of good to get it out of the way so I’m not thinking about it tomorrow.”

Tway’s only other victory was the Safeway Open in California in September 2018. Bryan’s only PGA Tour victory was this week, only it was at Hilton Head for the RBC Heritage, now a signature $20 million event.

The most experience is sitting three shots behind — Billy Horschel, a former FedEx Cup champion, who shot a 66.

The winner gets into the PGA Championship, but not the Masters because it is held opposite a signature event. But he also would get in the other three $20 million signature events for the rest of the season, so plenty is at stake for everyone.

“Excited to just get the nerves flowing a little bit tomorrow and have a chance to win a golf tournament,” Bryan said. “Got a good opportunity for that tomorrow.”

Billy horschel goes to puntacana and leaves with eighth pga tour win.

  • Associated Press

PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic — Billy Horschel went to the Dominican Republic for the first time in search of momentum and came away with a PGA Tour victory he sorely needed Sunday.

Horschel ran off four straight birdies on the front nine to get in the mix, began to pull away with an eagle on the par-5 12th hole and closed with a 9-under 63 for a two-shot victory in the Corales Puntacana Championship.

“This game of golf is so fickle,” Horschel said. “You can put a lot into it and not get everything you want out of it. I knew ... I had the ability, I had the talent. I had to continue to believe the good stuff was going to come to the forefront.”

Corales Puntacana Championship - Final Round

Horschel, who started the final round three shots behind, all but sealed it with an 18-foot birdie putt on the 16th hole.

Wesley Bryan, trying to go wire-to-wire, was bogey-free with four birdies and still only one shot behind late in the round. But right after Horschel made his final birdie, Bryan missed a par par putt from just outside 2 feet and fell three behind.

Bryan birdied the 18th for a 68 and was runner-up, which will get him into the AT&T Byron Nelson in two weeks. He was playing on a sponsor exemption. Kevin Tway shot 69 and finished third.

Horschel finished at 23-under 265 and earned $720,000.

He won for the eighth time on the PGA Tour and the first time in nearly two years. This gets him into the PGA Championship next month, and he likely will be in the next $20 million signature event at the Wells Fargo Championship.

Those are the tournaments Horschel, a former FedExCup champion, was used to playing. The opposite-field events are seen as a chance for younger players to get their first win. In the case of Horschel, it was crucial to get some confidence back.

He delivered one of his best closing rounds when he needed it — the four straight birdies starting on the par-3 second hole, a 31 on the front nine, the eagle on No. 12 to seize control and no bogeys over the last 30 holes of the tournament.

It was nearly a year ago at the Memorial that Horschel, the defending champion at Muirfield Village, shot 84 and was near tears talking about how low his confidence had fallen. He missed the FedExCup playoffs for the first time since 2012.

He had shown signs this year with a pair of top 10s, and now has a victory for validation. Along with getting into the PGA Championship at Valhalla, he is assured of starting next year at Kapalua in The Sentry.
