Below are highlights of the new 2023/2024 voyage collection, which will open for sale to the general public on August 11, 2021:

  • 18 voyages to Africa and the Indian Ocean, including all-new Arabian Peninsula voyages Brand new oceangoing and expedition itineraries in Africa and the Indian Ocean focus on the East Coast of Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. Four ships— Silver Cloud , Silver Whisper , Silver Spirit and Silver Moon —will offer 18 voyages across the region. A pair of Silver Cloud expedition cruises will delve deep into the archaeological and historical heritage of the Arabian Peninsula and the Red Sea, offering the chance to explore such UNESCO-listed gems as the ruins of Oman's Sumhuram and Saudi Arabia's Al-Hijr (also known as Hegra), while kayaking and snorkelling adventures await at scenic Lac Assal in Djibouti. On another itinerary, Silver Cloud will make a maiden call to the Comoro Islands off Africa's southeastern coast to discover amazing land and marine wildlife, with an extended stay in the Seychelles' UNESCO-listed Aldabra Atoll. Moreover, guests will enjoy immersive safari experiences in Richards Bay and Port Elizabeth on new South Africa voyages.
  • 38 voyages to 134 destinations in Northern Europe, including Silversea’s first expeditions in the Baltic Sea Calling in 134 destinations, 38 new itineraries in Northern Europe will complement Silversea’s existing offering in the region, which includes voyages in the Baltic Sea, Iceland, the Norwegian Fjords, and the British Isles. As well as Silversea's first-ever expeditions in the Baltic Sea, the new itinerary collection will feature remote destinations across the Finnish coast; new Norwegian Fjords departures in autumn, offering the chance to spot the fall foliage and the Northern Lights; and a diverse array of expeditions in the British Isles, including two Silver Cloud journeys visiting such remote places as Foula Island in Scotland's Shetland archipelago—home to an abundance of puffins and ponies. The ship will also make a maiden call to the island of Colonsay in Scotland's Inner Hebrides, where guests will be treated to historical treasures and varied flora and fauna. New Atlantic Coast itineraries during the harvest season will include calls in Leixões (Porto), Bilbao, and Bordeaux, among other destinations.
  • 36 voyages, including a Grand Voyage, aboard four ships for an extended season in the Mediterranean An extended season in the Mediterranean, spanning from April to December 2023, will offer 36 voyages to showcase such marquee regions as Iberia, the Western Mediterranean, Italy and the Adriatic, along with an enriched Eastern Mediterranean programme, including departures later in the season and more variety in the Holy Land and Egypt. For example, a 2023 Silver Moon voyage of 12 days will feature extended stays in Jerusalem and Istanbul, as well as a full day in Alexandria, focusing on the region’s historical heritage. While, in the Western Mediterranean, exclusive experiences of the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix highlight a nine-day Silver Moon sailing with an overnight in Monte Carlo. In addition, Silversea's innovative culinary programme, S.A.L.T. (Sea and Land Taste), will offer travellers the possibility to savour regional specialities on board Silver Moon and Silver Dawn .
  • Increased variety in Alaska, with 31 voyages aboard two ships, including maiden calls A total of 31 voyages aboard Silver Muse and Silver Whisper will offer increased variety in Alaska, while one Russian Far East expedition aboard Silver Wind will showcase the region’s most remote destinations. Combinable for extended exploration, two new 7-day itineraries in Alaska aboard Silver Whisper will take guests to the region’s most iconic ports, including Ketchikan and Juneau, incorporating a bear watching experience and opportunities to witness breathtaking glaciers. These two voyages will include maiden calls to Icy Bay, formed by the retreat of three glaciers, and the scenic town of Valdez, offering the chance to explore the Columbia Glacier.
  • Silversea’s first summer itineraries in Canada and New England, including calls in Quebec, Montreal, and Boston Silversea's first-ever summer sailings in Canada and New England will take place during an extended season in the region, which stretches from August to October 2023. With eight ocean voyages aboard Silver Shadow and one Silver Cloud expedition, Silversea guests will have the opportunity to admire the region's summertime scenery for the first time. Fall itineraries have been extended to include an overnight call in Boston.
  • 12 expeditions to the Arctic and Greenland, with a 24-day crossing of the Northwest Passage Guests will explore the Arctic and Greenland on 12 expedition voyages in the summer of 2023, hosted aboard Silver Cloud and Silver Wind , with one ship devoted to Greenland throughout the entire summer season. Among the highlights are two new Silver Cloud voyages encompassing Disko Bay and South Greenland, featuring inaugural visits to the majestic Lindenow and Tasermiut fjords. On two nine-day expeditions, Silver Wind will explore Norway's remote Svalbard Archipelago, where walrus, reindeer, seals, whales and seabirds abound. New expeditions to Baffin Island offer the chance to experience authentic Inuit culture and spot an abundance of wildlife, from polar bears, walrus, and bowhead whales, to orcas, narwhals, and beluga whales.

Sailing from November 2023 to March 2024, the Antarctic Peninsula voyages offer the chance to cruise Cape Horn, the iconic gateway between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. More itineraries will call in South Georgia and the Falkland Islands, for opportunities to witness the vast penguin colonies and other remarkable wildlife. Silver Cloud will offer convenient Antarctica Bridge options, enabling guests to skip the Drake Passage and fly in Business Class straight to Antarctica to start their cruise.

Silver Muse will unlock the region’s best golfing opportunities, with extended, full-day calls during 14-day voyages.

We wanted to share a brief review of our experience aboard Silversea Dawn in early March, 2023 from San Juan to Bridgetown.

Context : This was our very first SS cruise. We have sailed on Crystal Serenity, Seabourn Ovation and a few Celebrity ships as well.

Getting to the point : SS Dawn is a gorgeous ship, definitely the most elegant we have sailed, although there were some shortcomings which may give us pause on booking another.

Overall Impressions :

Silversea has done a remarkable job on the design on SS Dawn, this ship is an elegant beauty from top to bottom. Of all the cruises we have taken in the past, Dawn takes first place in terms of the physical appearance of the ship. She feels like what you would expect from a newer Four Seasons Hotel. The venues are gorgeous, the ship is comfortable, and the pretentiousness we might have expected was not felt by fellow guests or the crew.

We had very high expectations for SS overall, knowing it’s the pinnacle of cruising brands. Overall, we would rate the experience as a 7.5/10. The primarily reason for a less than excellent score: The Food and The Entertainment. The latter you could possibility be more forgiving as SS is known for more low key luxury, but the entertainment was just down right bad. That said, the quality and experience of the ship’s physical appearance was stellar, as was the service throughout.

Wow, we were shocked at how “bad” the food really was for the highest end cruising brand in the industry. We’re not talking one or two meals bad, but I would say nearly 60% of our meal experiences left much to be desired. Could this really be, on SS? Food is highly subjective as we all know, and perhaps they were having a bad week, but we felt the overall quality and variety of food was just sub par for the brand. By comparison, Crystal (when we sailed in 2019) was leaps and bounds ahead of SS, Seabourn was also ahead in terms of food, and so were our Celebrity experiences.

Where SS did do well in terms of food: Caviar on demand (a nice touch of course), Spaccanapoli and La Dame. La Terraza also deserves recognition as we thought it was much better and “restaurant like” compared to the other “cruise food” tasting venues. The buffet options at La Terraza were also quality oriented.

Where did SS do poorly in terms of food: Kaiseki, Atlantide and the absolute worst: Hot Rocks. We tried our very best not to be critical, and in fact it was a consensus in our group that these venues were just down right disappointing. Flavorless, poor quality cuts of steak, seafood that did not taste fresh were among the comments we had for these venues. We tried hard to identify the source of the issues- was it staffing? Was it quality of the raw ingredients? Perhaps a combination of things, but SS really does need to assess things on the food front.

Drink Offerings: this is where we thought SS really outdid themselves! Compared to other luxury lines, SS nailed the drink offerings. Mixology was stellar, the best example of course being Salt Bar. Presentation of drinks (love the linen napkins!) was stellar, as was the selection of spirits. Wine offers were also quite nice, although our only complaint was that the staff was pushing 1 selection of each type of wine in the venues, and if you didn’t ask- you would never get to try other types of wines on the included lists.

Entertainment :

Again, setting expectations here is key. Of course luxury lines will not have the level of entertainment options by virtue of the audience and number of guests on board. SS is intended to be subtle luxury- yes we get that, but the quality of the entertainment (with the exception of one venue, Silver Note), was the worst we’ve experienced on a cruise. Very few deck band appearances (Seabourn by comparison did a great job!), and the bands throughout were literally playing synthesized pre selected songs on keyboards. Come on SS- step things up! The acts in the theatre were also average at best. SS could easily maintain the subtle entertainment approach they have by also adding in a few more options, by the pool for example and in the main venue areas.

Conclusion: This is not intended to be an exhaustive review, yet just a quick perspective on our experience. Overall, we would love an excuse to give SS another try, but based on the food and entertainment alone, we would be reluctant do to so.

Highlights however did include, fantastic service throughout (The suite butlers as an example were lovely), beautiful ship with modern “hotel like” venues and of course a small initiate ship environment you would expect from a luxury line. At this point, we’re more inclined to give Seabourn or Crystal another try for our next luxury cruise experience.

Lovely picture of Seabourn Ovation. 🙂

We were on the MOON in Sept and the MUSE in  Dec  and our cruises were almost a carbon copy of your review

Thanks for your review and the photographs which brought back happy memories.  Agree that the entertainment needs to be improved and I understand that there is a new company or team starting to handle it.

Good review and not too far off the mark from my opinion.   You are much more impressed with their caviar product.

Better than posting here and moaning I suppose.

She certainly is a beautiful ship.   We dont care for "entertainment" so werent in any way disappointed in that respect and I hesitate to suggest that music by the pool except perhaps at lunchtime or in early evening would be unwelcome for many, peace and quiet has have many merits.   As for food, well my main complaint would be that the meat portions were just too big for me, I cannot face a large piece of meat on my plate so didnt have meat apart from sharing a fillet steak with my husband at Hot Rocks on one occasion.   I ate lobster perhaps five or six times in various venues, I had wonderful turbot, salmon, cod and prawns also in a variety of venues.   All the fish dishes were, to me, surprisingly good considering they must have been frozen at some point but were nevertheless succulent and appropriately flavoured.  The lunch buffet in La Terrazza never failed to offer something delicious including some really wonderful quiches and also some spicy hot dishes.   Overall I didnt feel the food was disappointing but mainly not to my taste.

Exactly.....let someone else do the dirty work for a change.

The food might not be great but you wouldn't know it looking at your pics. They at least seem to do a good job with the presentation.

The pizzas were out of this world delicious.

Yep food is subjective. Your 3 worst restauants are our 3 preferred and the ones you thought good are our lowest 3. How a buffet can be considered fine dining intriques me.

On our last 2 cruises, Dawn and now Moon .The steaks have been very good. Cooked as asked tender and flavoursome. We have tried most of the top ranked US steakhouses. The only difference is size of the steak.

Kaiseki. Well we have only had 100n trips to Japan and we think the lunches are excellent. Our experience of Asian restaurants in the US is they cater for US tastes which usially are not authentic Asian. There are of course exceptions.

les37b

Thanks for your review and taking the time to do so.

We were on the sailing onwards from your disembarkation port of Barbados.

Agree with you on the Ship. Dawn is splendid.

Entertainment, it’s very rare we go to any shows, but did see one this time. I expect some might enjoy the “Queen” tribute. It was ok at times, but not for me.

Food, as Drron said, is subjective usually, but not always. On my second night in Salt, I sent back both starter and main course. The starter was stone cold (literally room temperature and did recheck it was meant to be hot!) I got that changed. The main was Luke warm, but under cooked. I chose not to replace. Service was slow and wasn’t going to stave so left it. This is the first time on any SS cruise I’ve sent food back, so really not good to have 2 in a row.

It did pick up after that and that meal the only meal of notable dissatisfaction.

Drinks, I’d usually agree. But was surprised at no Peroni (on an Italian ship at the pizzeria.) They had none on the ship available anywhere. It happens I know, but some things you’d expect not to. Our fridge was sparse… and not restocked. I did manage to get 2 bottles of Asahi beer, but never replaced. No big deal, but not good either. Beyond that, Al as expected.

Staff as always were excellent, but there were far more than usual getting up to speed.

Highlight food related was the death by chocolate which was stunning.

Will you be booking another?

Food is so funny. I have been on Spirit for the last 10 days and sans 2 service issues, the food overall has been some of the best I have eaten on any of my sailings.

I will write some sort of review after I get home.

Silversea: World Cruise 2023 on board Silver Shadow

To launch its Extraordinary 2023 World Cruise, Silversea Presents “South Side Story: All The World’s A Stage”

When Silversea announced the most unique itinerary ever sailed on a World Cruise, the luxury cruise line pulled out all the stops.  In a spectacular 27-minute production, Fernando Barroso de Oliveira, in his role as Silversea’s President’s Ambassador to The Venetian Society, the line’s loyalty program, literally took his audience around the world. The cinematic production was a triumph involving over 50 professionals working for 5 weeks around the clock.  The actual filming took an entire week.  18 different sets culled down from over 3000 options were displayed behind the charming Fernando.  His wardrobe for the production was so extensive that he traveled with no fewer than 7 suitcases. More than 8 hours of footage was edited down to the final version: An extraordinarily detailed look at what Silversea guests will experience once they set sail on the 139-day voyage.

Silversea (silversea.com, 1994-founded) Is an ultra-premium travel brand and Monaco-based cruise company. With its first ship ( Silver Cloud ), Silversea pioneered as an all-inclusive passenger shipping company on May 30th (1994) when Silver Cloud was christened in Monte Carlo (Monaco) . Currently, Silversea's schedule list 900+ destinations (ports and islands) all over the world. By 2024, the brand's fleet capacity (11x vessels) will increase 56% in comparison to 2020 (pre-COVID).

Company history

Until 2018, Silversea's owners were the Lefebvre family ( Rome City, Italy ) and V-Ships (fka Vlasov Group) of Monaco. Its business model was ultra-luxury cruising with smaller-sized all-suite ships.

In June-July 2018, RCG-Royal Caribbean Group acquired 2/3 of the company. On June 14, 2018, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (RCCL) and Manfredi Lefebvre D'Ovidio (Silversea's majority stock owner) announced an agreement for RCCL to acquire 66,7% equity stake in Silversea or purchase price ~USD 1 billion. At the time, the company was valued at approx USD 2 billion. RCCL financed the deal (through debt) in October. In addition to the cash money, the Lefebvre family received around 472,000 RCL shares. Silversea kept the company's management team led by Roberto Martinoli (President and CEO between 2016-2022).

In January 2023-March 2024, Silversea's President and CEO was Barbara Muckermann (promoted from CCO/Chief Commercial Officer) while Roberto Martinoli was appointed Senior Advisor to RCG's President and CEO. In April 2024, Barbara Muckermann was succeeded by Bert Hernandez (with RCG since 2004).

In May 2023, Silversea appointed Mark Conroy as a Senior Advisor to the company's Global Sales department led by Massimo Brancaleoni (Senior VP), while Joe Leon was promoted to Managing Director for the Americas. Until 2023, Mark Conroy served as Silversea's Managing Director for the Americas. In the past, Mark Conroy held senior positions at Dimond Cruises (ship Radisson Diamond/1992-built, IMO 9008407) and RSSC-Regent Seven Seas Cruises and has also served as Renaissance Cruises's President and Royal Viking Line's VP of Sales.

On August 1, 2018, after receiving regulators' final approval, the acquisition deal was officially closed. RCCL owns 66,7%, while Manfredi Lefebvre d'Ovidio owns 33,3% stake and remains the company's Executive Chairman. Following the acquisition was announced the "Project Invictus" - a multi-year fleetwide project for drydock refurbishments and product enhancements. The project's first enhancements started with Silver Muse (August 19, 2018) with upgraded champagne and caviar offerings. Next were scheduled for upgrades Silver Whisper and Silver Wind ((December 2018). All liners in the fleet will be updated taking inspiration from the flagship Silver Muse . In July 2020, RCCL-Royal Caribbean Group purchased Silversea's remaining shares from Heritage Cruise Holding Ltd. The purchase was in the form of 5,2 million RCL shares (~2,5% of Royal Caribbean's total common stock).

Celebrating the company's 25th Anniversary in 2019, Silversea ships accumulated 47800+ cruising days and served passengers with 9,4+ million cruise days.

Since the beginning, the company's all-inclusive fares included port charges, travel insurance, gratuities (none were allowed), one or more shore events (excursions) per cruise itinerary and beverages (selected wines at lunch and dinner). Most (around 80%) of the brand's clients were expected to come from North America, so the line established its marketing office in Fort Lauderdale FL .

The Fleet's first vessel ( Silver Cloud ) entered service in April 1994, followed by sistership Silver Wind in January 1995. In September 2000 was launched Silver Shadow . Silver Whisper debuted in January 2001.

In 2008, Silversea entered the luxury expedition travel market by purchasing the ship Prince Albert II (Society Expeditions-owned) and upgrading it to the industry's highest standards.

  • The reconstructed vessel ( Silver Explorer ) was inaugurated in June 2008 for exotic itineraries (Arctic, Antarctica, Western Africa safari cruisetours) and Zodiac boat expeditions for wildlife viewing.
  • In January 2021, Silversea announced that the 33-years-old Silver Explorer is sold and in September 2023 leaves the fleet. The ship will be operated by Exploris (Paris France-based new cruise brand) starting operations in December (2023).

On June 18, 2012, was announced that Silversea had acquired Canodros SA - Ecuadorian luxury tour company operating cruises in Galapagos Islands . The deal included former Renaissance ship Galapagos Explorer II (renamed in 2013 to Silver Galapagos ). The 100-passenger ship was deployed year-round in the Galapagos Islands (through 2020 when was sold). The 3rd expedition ship "Silver Discoverer" joined "Silversea Expeditions" fleet in March 2014 for itineraries in Micronesia, Melanesia, Polynesia, Russian Far East, Australia New Zealand. The chartered vessel has a glass-bottom tour boat, Zodiacs (large motorized boats used for landings), snorkeling and dive program (with complimentary equipment). In May 2019, Silver Discoverer was sold to CroisiEurope , joining the fleet in 2020-Q1 under the name La Belle des Oceans .

In 2017, Silversea started selling bonds to the public to finance the company's business. The plan was to raise USD 550 million (up from the originally-planned USD 275M). Senior secured notes (due in 2025) paid interest at 7,25% rate.

In June 2017 was announced the company's partnership with Peninsula Hotels ( Hong Kong -based hotel chain). Silversea's new "cruise and hotel" program debuted on Silver Muse (during World Cruise 2019). Both brands collaborate only on Asian itineraries. During these voyages, Peninsula Hotels provides chefs and specialists to interact with passengers and arrange exclusive onboard events in select Asian port cities.

In August 2018 was launched the travel blog Discover (discover.silversea.com). There are posted itinerary-themed mini-documentaries and behind-the-scenes videos themed on the world's most unique cultures and lifestyles, rare geographical phenomena, unusual landscapes, wildlife, topics on glaciology-botany-ornithology-marine biology, useful travel skills, expert photography tips, as well as specially produced for Silversea photos and videos and original stories by company's Expedition Experts.

In May 2019, CroisiEurope (one of Europe's largest river cruise companies ) announced the acquisition of Silver Discoverer (1989-built). Joining CroisiEurope's fleet in 2020-Q1, the ship will be renamed La Belle des Oceans . The French company currently owns one sea-going vessel - the 2007-built La Belle de l'Adriatique .

In late-July 2019, Silversea announced a partnership deal with the French company Lalique (1888-founded in Paris France). The brand specializes in the production of lead glass/crystal (including vases and perfume bottles) and luxury crystal art. For Silversea, Lalique will produce decorative glass artworks (hand-crafted crystal panels) for fleet's La Dame restaurants (capacity ~40 seats each). The Lalique artworks are positioned at the restaurant's entrance and also along the walls. The crystal panels incorporate 2 main aquatic-themed designs - Masque de Femme (a nymph surrounded by marine creatures) and Coutard (a spray of water droplets).

In 2019 (August 10 through September 5), Silver Explorer completed the company's first " Northwest Passage Cruise " from Alaska ( Nome AK ) to Europe ( Tromso Norway ). The 26-day voyage included ~9260 km of sea navigation and visiting 27 ports and destinations on 2 continents and in 3 countries. During the passage through the Canadian Arctic, the cruise ship was escorted by a CCG icebreaker . On the ship were 15 expedition team crew (including historians, geologists, botanists, marine biologists, ornithologists, professional photographers) presenting ~50 itinerary-themed onboard lectures.

In mid-June 2022 was announced that the 2021-built Crystal Endeavor is acquired by Silversea (via RCG-Royal Caribbean Group). The megayacht was scheduled to enter drydock for refurbishing and rebranding, to be renamed (Silver Endeavour) and included in Silversea's Antarctica 2022-2023 program. On June 8th, Silversea trademarked the ship names "Silver Endeavor" and "Silver Endeavour". Crystal Endeavor's purchase was confirmed by RCG on July 18th.

In March 2024, the Door-to-Door (all-inclusive pricing) was expanded with two more options:

  • "Door-to-Door All-Inclusive Fare" - encompasses private land transfers (home-airport-hoe, international flights/Business Class upgrades at reduced rates, land tours/shore excursions)
  • (new) "Port-to-Port All-Inclusive Fare" (includes shore excursions) targets tourists who prefer to independently plan their pre- and post-cruise travel arrangements.
  • (new) "Essential Fare" is a cruise-only fare (inclusive of all onboard amenities and services except land tours) allowing tourists to independently arrange their flights, land transfers and shore excursions.

In the late-2000s, Silversea started a fleet-expansion program adding tonnage through newbuilds.

Silversea new ship (aerial) Dawn and Moon

In December 2009, the company launched the 540-passenger Silver Spirit . In 2017 was launched the 596-passenger Silver Muse (building cost EUR 105 million / USD 125M) - Silver Spirit modified design.

On September 11, 2017, was signed a EUR 310 million (USD 370M) shipbuilding contract with Fincantieri for 3 new cruise ships - including Silver Moon , with scheduled delivery in 2020. Currently, Silversea has a fleet of 9 operational vessels, with a planned expansion up to 12 units. The last two newbuilds are the Silver Nova (2023) and Silver Ray (2024).

Silversea new ship (EVOLUTION class) Nova and Ray

When the Silversea-Fincantieri deal for Silver Moon was signed (September 2017), the Italian shipbuilder had a total of 78x cruise vessels (built in the period 1990-2017, of which 55x between 2002-2017) plus other 31x currently being designed or constructed.

On May 14, 2018. was signed the Silversea-Fincantieri order for Silver Dawn (November 2021).

In October 2018, RCG-Royal Caribbean announced shipbuilding agreements for all 3 new boats for Silversea. The MoU (with Meyer Werft Germany) included 3 new (EVOLUTION Class) ships with first delivery in 2022. The 3rd contract was signed with Shipyard De Hoop (Holland) for building Silver Origin . The new ship serves Silversea Expeditions' Galapagos Islands cruisetour program previously served by Silver Galapagos . Silver Origin entered service in May 2021 (originally planned for March 2020). In December 2020, RCG sold Silver Galapagos to an undisclosed buyer.

Ship refurbishments

In August 2016, Silversea announced the company's plans to invest USD 170 million in a fleetwide drydock refurbishment project. Ship upgrades started in 2016 with 3 ships.

  • Silver Whisper had refreshed suites (dark emperor marble floors in cabin bathrooms, sun deck (new loungers, newly tiled pool). The Restaurant and La Terrazza are with new furniture and flooring (hardwood parquet/carpet). Two new satellite antennas provide faster Internet. On-demand movies and interactive TVs were added in all cabins.
  • Silver Wind received the same upgrades as Silver Whisper - all cabins, restaurants, ship technology. The pool deck has all new teak decking.
  • Silver Cloud was refitted into a polar expedition ship.

Silversea's travel experience

As a travel brand, Silversea provides an upscale, yet casual onboard atmosphere, bigger-than-average public spaces, 5-star service by professionally trained staff.

Extraordinary dining experiences are available on all Silversea ships, with wine poured generously at meals. The all-inclusive policy covers all gratuities and unlimited beverages - beer, wine, liquor, and soft drinks, except premium brands.

There are lecturers on all voyages, offering insights into the cultures of the destinations visited. Sometimes Silversea provides a bridge instructor or a golf pro for lessons at the practice nets on each ship. However, partly as a function of relatively low passenger capacity, few educational opportunities are available. Each of Silversea Cruises ships has a well-stocked library, a fitness center, and a Steiner-managed spa.

Meals in the main dining room are served open seating, with lunch available between 12:00 and 1:30 p.m., and dinner at any time between 7:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Alternative dinner is available at 7 p.m. in La Terrazza, free of charge (reservations are required) and in the upscale Le Champagne between 7:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Le Champagne applies a $200/$30 charge, which depends on the chosen dining option ($200 is for a multi-course degustation menu with wine pairings).

IMPORTANT: As there are no organized kids programs, Silversea ships are inappropriate for families with young kids.

Silversea passengers are generally, as on most small luxury ships, somewhat older than those found on bigger, mainstream vessels. In terms of nationality, about 50% are North Americans, with the other 50% coming from all over the world (mainly the United Kingdom, Europe, and Australia). Many travelers are retirees with the resources and leisure to make Silversea their line of choice.

Perhaps because they provide the space for more facilities (cigar bar, wine bar, computer center, expanded spa, not to mention larger and better-equipped show lounge), Silver Whisper and Silver Shadow attract a younger clientele. Still, Silversea is not the cruise line for the 20- and 30-something travelers.

For season 2016-2017, Silversea Expeditions partnered with Technogym for selected Wellness-themed cruises. By this partnership, on all Silversea expedition vessels were offered fitness and wellness-themed onboard events and complimentary amenities and services, including spa treatments, classes (Yoga, Pilates, fitness), enrichment lectures, healthy cooking demos gym sessions (with personal trainers and Technogym equipment).

Since January 2019, Silversea upgraded fleetwide company's in-cabin TV programming by adding 2 new channels - National Geographic (NatGeo / science-travel documentaries) and Sport 24 (live sports events).

Since March 30, 2022, Silversea offers to all customers as standard (ticket price-inclusive) private executive transfers.

  • The offer is part of the July 2021-signed partnership between Silversea and Blacklane GmbH (Berlin-based global chauffeur service provider / via mobile app-website-phone).
  • The partnership deal was signed by Roberto Martinoli (Silversea's CEO) and Jens Wohltorf (Blacklane's CEO).
  • All passengers are provided complimentary with the option of being collected (by a private chauffeured vehicle) from their homes and transferred to their local airport (located up to 50 mi / 80 km away) or directly to the cruise ship. The same service is also offered on return journeys.
  • Silversea's private chauffeur transfers are available in 200+ cities in 50+ countries.

(NEW) Otium wellness program

In October 2021 Silversea announced the brand's wellness program "Otium", with planned inauguration in 2022 on the newbuild Silver Dawn . The program is inspired by the patricians' lifestyle in Ancient Rome, providing customized leisure time experiences.

  • Otium Sleeping (Italy-manufactured premium Egyptian cotton linens, custom-made mattresses and pillows)
  • Otium Bathing (walk-in showers, bathtubs, plush bathrobes, bath salts and candles, personalized playlists/your-choice music, in-cabin dining /caviar canapes, chocolate truffles, champagne)
  • Otium Balcony (cashmere blankets, gourmet bites and appetizers, cocktails and hot beverages, misting system, sun creams) - on the cabins' balconies
  • Otium Comfort Food (24-hour premium dining options, movie nights with gourmet popcorn, pre-dinner drinks)
  • Otium Spa (enhanced spa treatments and massages menu, services by wellness experts, in-spa dining/wine-champagne and gourmet snacks)

Otium is an abstract term meaning temporary "leisure time" during which a person can enjoy food, games, resting, contemplation, intellectual discussions.

Cruise ship W-Fi and Internet

Since April 2018, all Silversea ships offer free and unlimited Wi-Fi access - regardless of cabin category. Previously (between January 2016 - April 2018) Silversea customers received 1 hour of complimentary Wi-Fi per day.

By the new policy, Silversea provides each standard suite passenger with free and unlimited Internet access. Booking larger suites (Silver to Owner grades) offers free and unlimited internet for up to 2 mobile devices pp (simultaneously). Unlimited premium internet package upgrades are also offered.

In August 2022, the shipowner RCG-Royal Caribbean Group signed a deal with SpaceX/Space Exploration Technologies Corporation (2002-founded by Elon Musk) for using Starlink's satellites to provide faster and low-latency Internet connections across the global fleet (Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity, and Silversea ships). Fleetwide Starlink installations were scheduled to be completed in 2023-Q1.

Antarctica Bridge bookings were opened on December 10, 2019, with fares from USD 17,500 per person (with double occupancy).

The 1240 km long flight is over Drake Passage and on a Silversea-chartered plane adapted to land on King George Island. The business-class flight takes 2 hours (in each direction), avoiding ~4 days of sea navigation on the return leg of the cruise. An in-flight entertainment program includes information briefings on the Zodiacs (cruise ship's high-speed boats used for landings) and IAATO (International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators). After the first flight follows 5 full Antarctica cruising days.

(Coronavirus crisis) passenger shipping pause 2020-2021

Due to the COVID pandemic, RCG suspended its entire fleet's passenger shipping operations (RCI-Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity, Silversea, Azamara) worldwide by canceling all voyages with pre-scheduled departures in the period March 13, 2020, through June 2021.

Silversea Galapagos 2021 program restarted on June 19 (Silver Origin).

Changing the FCC to a monetary refund (100%) must be done by December 31, 2020.

Silversea's Cancellation Policy was extended to allow penalty-free cancellations up to 48 hours prior departure (all itineraries departing up until December 1, 2020, and receive an FCC.

With a fleet of 9 vessels, the company is also the dominant player on the Mediterranean luxury cruising market, especially during summer months. The second biggest by passenger capacity line is Crystal Cruises (Los Angeles USA-based). The third biggest luxury line is RSSC-Regent Seven Seas , followed closely by Seabourn .

OVER 280 VOYAGES, 690 DESTINATIONS, 125 COUNTRIES

Setting sail from March 2023 to May 2024, Silversea’s new voyage collection will include over 60 maiden calls, an increased 197 overnight calls, and over 60 hand-picked combination voyages for extended exploration, as well as the following innovations:

  • Brand new itineraries in Africa and the Indian Ocean , including in-depth explorations of the Red Sea. During new itineraries to the Arabian Peninsula, guests will discover the region’s natural and archeological heritage for extended stays in the Persian Gulf. On all-new South Africa and Namibia voyages, travelers will have the chance to witness the region’s Big Five—lions, leopards, rhinoceros, elephants, and buffalo—on visits to safari reserves. As well as the iconic Skeleton Coast, guests will explore the unique wildlife and geology of the Vanilla Islands.
  • New itineraries in Northern Europe , including Silversea’s first-ever expedition voyages in the Baltic Sea, building on the cruise line’s customary offering in the Norwegian Fjords, the Baltic, Iceland, the British Isles, and the Atlantic Coast. Travelers will journey to off-the-beaten-path destinations along the Finnish coast, while new Norwegian Fjord departures will offer the chance to see autumnal foliage and the Northern Lights. Expeditions to the British Isles will unlock new, remote destinations, such as the Farne Islands and Lindisfarne Island in the Scottish Isles.
  • Greater variety in Alaska , with brand new combinable itineraries that will offer extended adventure—building on the cruise line’s seven-day itineraries aboard  Silver Muse . Maiden calls to Icy Bay and Valdez will attract well-traveled guests, offering the chance to witness the magnificent Columbia Glacier.
  • More departures in Canada and New England , including voyages setting sail in the summer months for the first time in Silversea’s history, adding to the cruise line’s established itineraries, which will now include an overnight call in Boston, Massachusetts.

“Whether we’re retracing our footsteps along familiar paths or setting off to unchartered territories, there is always something new to discover. […] Silversea is proud to offer first-time expedition itineraries in the Arabian Peninsula, allowing our guests to visit off-the-beaten-path places, like the Khasab Peninsula in Oman, Djibouti on the Horn of Africa, or exciting destinations like Al Ula and the Farasan Islands in Saudi Arabia. Our new East Africa Islands expedition cruise will bring us to the wildlife-rich Aldabra Atoll in the Seychelles and the Comoro Islands—a maiden call for us. We will also set sail on our first-ever grand voyage in Africa and Arabia in 2024, with fascinating stops at places like Zanzibar, Muscat, and Richard’s Bay. In Northern Europe, we will offer in-depth expeditions in the Baltic Region for the first time. […] For North America, we have designed all-new Alaska itineraries to destinations like Icy Bay and Valdez and even the fast-moving (for a glacier) Columbia Glacier. […] And finally, we return to our roots with a grand voyage in the Mediterranean that offers our most extensive exploration of the region, over an immersive 65-day journey.”

Silversea Silver Moon

Silversea’s New Silver Moon

Two New Grand Voyages

Guests in search of extended, immersive travel will be attracted to Silversea’s two new grand voyages, which will set sail in 2023 and 2024 respectively, enriching the cruise line’s existing range of   grand voyages :

AFRICA & ARABIA GRAND VOYAGE 2024

Silversea’s first-ever   grand voyage to Africa and Arabia  will combine new-world modernity with fascinating glimpses into the region’s storied past. Embarking   Silver Spirit in Cape Town on January 27, 2024, Silversea’s guests will travel deep into 28 destinations over 62 days, charting their way through Namibia, South Africa, Madagascar, Réunion, Mauritius, Seychelles, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan, and Egypt, before concluding their voyage in Greece on March 29. Calls in vibrant, iconic cities will complement maiden calls in remote destinations, such as Dhiba. From Dhiba, guests will discover the ancient region of Al Ula, including Mada’in Saleh—the first site in Saudi Arabia to earn UNESCO recognition. Here, travelers will witness preserved tombs, historic dwellings, and breathtaking monuments—both natural and human-made—that hold 200,000 years of largely unexplored human history. As well as UNESCO World Heritage sites, travelers will enjoy immersive cultural experiences, from the shamanistic ceremonies of the Sangoma spiritual healers in Durban to the mesmerizing dance rituals of the San of the Kalahari Desert. Guests will witness the incredible variety of wildlife in South Africa, the Seychelles, and Madagascar, as well as the vast landscapes of the Namibian and Saharan deserts. Extended stays in Walvis Bay, Durban, Richards Bay, Antsiranana, Muscat, Abu Dhabi, Dhiba, and Safaga will enable travelers to explore deeper.

THE MEDITERRANEAN GRAND VOYAGE 2023

New ship  Silver Moon  will embark upon a   grand voyage in the Mediterranean , departing Lisbon on October 6, 2023, and offering travelers the most extensive exploration of the region in the cruise line’s history. Guests will journey to 52 destinations over 65 days, experiencing 16 countries, from Portugal to Greece, with an in-depth focus on the Eastern Mediterranean, including the Holy Land and Egypt, with overnight calls in Alexandria, Nazareth, and—for the first time on a grand voyage—Jerusalem, among others. Guests will explore the stimulating cultures and ancient histories of Portugal, Spain, Gibraltar, Morocco, France, Monaco, Italy, Malta, Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Israel, and Cyprus. Thanks to Silversea’s new SALT program, which launched in June aboard Silver Moon , guests will take a deep dive into the region’s distinctive food and drink cultures, with insightful experiences aboard and ashore. Bespoke experiences, tailor-made by Silversea’s destination experts, will complete a holistic discovery of the Mediterranean. Many special events and onboard enrichments will enhance the offering further.

Japan cruises offer you the chance to discover captivating Shinto shrines, stroll through meticulously-planned formal gardens, savor the freshest sushi, and visit some of the world's most beautiful mountain scenery.

Visit Tokyo, where you can explore the city's intricate temples, shop in its bustling markets, and enjoy its diverse and delicious food. You'll also visit Kyoto, where Buddhist temples and the gracefully curved nagare-zukuri style of architecture contribute to the city’s celebrated beauty. Admire Mount Fuji, the highest mountain in the country, its snow-capped cone a symbol of Japan. Uncover the rich history, serene nature, and modern buzz of Japan on a luxury cruise to Asia with Celebrity Cruises.

Japan Cruise Highlights

Authentic cultural experiences.

Japan has one of the deepest, best-preserved cultures anywhere on earth, and you'll get to experience this first-hand on cruises to Japan. In Tokyo, with its skyscrapers and Shinto shrines side-by-side, you'll feel the intricate balance of old and new Japanese culture. In Kyoto, explore more than 1,600 temples and shrines, including the iconic Kinkaku-Ji, or "Golden Pavilion." Enjoy traditional Japanese music, folkloric dance, and art, all on one incredible journey that brings you cultural enrichment at every turn.

Unique Cuisine

Dining in Japan is a treat, offering extraordinary diversity, creativity, and adventurous ingredients. You can find fresh, delicious sushi and sashimi, but look out, too, for fantastic yakitori (skewered chicken), tempura (vegetables or seafood fried in a light batter), udon (thick wheat noodles), and much more.

Natural Wonders

Japan is a land of natural beauty and wonder, and you'll have the opportunity to see some of the country's most beautiful natural sights during your cruise. Visit majestic mountains, sacred hot springs, and charming botanical gardens. Enjoy cherry blossoms in spring, or see the stunning red leaves of fall. No matter when you choose to cruise, Japan's natural beauty will be on display for you to cherish.

Featured Japanese Cruise Ports

A Japan cruise will take you to a diverse mix of ports. Some of these ports, like the famous capital city of Tokyo, offer a city experience full of skyscrapers, fine dining, and a chance to witness the day-to-day life of many who live in Japan. Other ports you’ll visit during a cruise around Japan provide a more tranquil setting with opportunities to get out into nature and visit ancient temples and shrines. In addition, many of our Japan cruise itineraries offer overnight ports of call to experience the nightlife of Japan; these may take place in Kobe and Kyoto.
