Dopo Top Gear, anche The Grand Tour è al capolinea. La fine di un'era?

Avatar di Emanuele Colombo

4 mesi fa - The Grand Tour all'ultima puntata. Dopo Top Gear chiude un altro show

The Grand Tour all'ultimo episodio.

the grand tour quando esce

Addio Top Gear: dopo 20 anni chiude lo show sui motori

Il tweet conferma The Grand Tour

Good news: After season 3 #TheGrandTour will be returning for an even bigger adventure. Bad News: We have a tent to sell. pic.twitter.com/GIz60N4ngA — The Grand Tour (@thegrandtour) 13 dicembre 2018

Cosa cambierà da The Grand Tour 4

The Grand Tour

Jeremy Clarkson has revealed why it’s the end of the road for The Grand Tour . Clarkson said he and co-hosts, James May and Richard Hammond, decided to quit the Amazon Prime Video show after running out of steam.

In an interview with The Times of London , Clarkson said it was becoming increasingly difficult to conjure up outlandish adventures for the show and that the presenters were all showing their age.

He added that The Grand Tour missions are “immensely physical” and had become increasingly difficult when “you’re unfit and fat and old.” “If you’re Bear Grylls you go to a hotel — there aren’t any hotels in the Sahara desert,” Clarkson said.

Clarkson, Hammond, and May confirmed last November that they had filmed their final installments of  The Grand Tour . Two final episodes of the motoring series were recorded in Mauritania and Zimbabwe and will premiere on Amazon Prime Video.

Fozia Khan, Amazon Studios’ head of unscripted in the UK, said the brand could survive with another set of presenters. “It’s come to its natural end,” she said, adding that her team was “thinking about” how the show can live on.

Clarkson will continue to host Clarkson’s Farm for Amazon after the series has become the streamer’s highest-rated UK original. Filming on Season 4 is set to begin this year. Clarkson is also hosting more Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? for ITV.

The Times interviewer Ed Potton wrote that he was told not to ask Clarkson about his reviled The Sun newspaper column about Meghan Markle. Clarkson wrote that he imagines the day Markle is paraded “naked through the streets of every town in Britain while the crowds chant, ‘Shame!’ and throw lumps of excrement at her.” The piece was retracted and Amazon made clear its fury at the article.

Asked if he feels under pressure to be controversial, Clarkson said: “No! I like being controversial. Some people who see a still pond find that peaceful, but I cannot resist throwing a stone in it.”

"The Grand Tour" to return for farewell episode in 2024

C larkson, Hammond, and May are set to officially bid farewell to their program, "The Grand Tour," broadcast on Amazon, as reported by the BBC.

There's good news and bad news for fans. Good news: "The Grand Tour" will return in 2024. Bad news: this will be its final episode. The trio, who rose to fame through the BBC's "Top Gear," have continued their antics on "The Grand Tour," which has been available on Amazon since 2016.

While the initial seasons of "The Grand Tour" boasted a similar number of episodes to its predecessor “Top Gear," the series has recently been limited to sporadically published special productions. It appears that this was the beginning of the end for "The Grand Tour".

According to the BBC, which cited internal sources, a  special episode documenting a trip to Zimbabwe will be released in 2024 , marking the official end of "The Grand Tour".

Despite saying goodbye to "The Grand Tour," it doesn't mean that this popular trio will completely vanish from our screen. Each presenter has their own shows on Amazon's platform. As of now, these productions are set to continue.

It's worth noting that "Top Gear," the precursor to "The Grand Tour," is also seeing its end. Following Clarkson, May, and Hammond's departure, the BBC carried on with the series, introducing new presenters. However, this came to a halt in 2022, when one presenter, Freddie Flintoff, sustained serious injuries in an on-set incident. Nearly a year following the accident, the broadcaster announced its decision to discontinue the program.

The Grand Tour: A Scandi Flick – Everything You Should Know About The Norway Special

The Grand Tour : A Scandi Flick is here after months of waiting and rumours, the latest episode of the show is now released to be watched on Prime Video. Filming in Norway, Jeremy Clarkson , Richard Hammond, and James May explore the world of rally cars after filming together at the beginning of 2022.

So, here’s what you need to know:

Table of Contents

Episode Summary

In the first episode of season 5 and their first post-pandemic road trip, Jeremy, Richard and James head for the icy wastes of the Scandinavian Arctic Circle.  At the wheel of their three favourite rally cars the boys embark on a catastrophe-filled adventure that takes in Cold War submarine bases – frozen lake racetracks, crashes and ski resort chaos as they drag their homemade houses from the coast of Norway to the Russian Border.

Where Does The Norway Special Begin?

The first hint that The Grand Tour was filming came from Jeremy Clarkson’s Instagram account as he posted a video from Norway.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jeremy Clarkson (@jeremyclarkson1)

Making a football joke (that I’d happily let someone explain to me in the comments), he didn’t hint at any filming. But another post from the same location gave us plenty of information.

This photo introduced us to two of the cars that will feature in the episode, as well as the location.

Where Was The Norway Special Filmed?

The photo above was shot from the Henningsvaer Football Stadium on Norway near the village of Henningsvaer. This village sits on a small fishing island which has a population of only 500 people. But while it’s small, thousands of tourists visit each year because of its incredible views and, of course, the football pitch.

This pitch is one of the most recognisable in the world, but the area boasts several other enticing places such as a caviar factory turned art museum, and a coast that’s steeped in history.

The mountain range is the Festvågtind mountains, which tower 541 metres into the sky. People enjoy hiking the 1.5km trail, but unfortunately, cars aren’t able to get up there… as far as we know.

As we’ve seen from the trailer, they later visit a ski resort and an ice track over a frozen lake.

What Are The Cars?

The trailer gives us plenty to chew on, including the run-up to James May’s huge crash . But for us gearheads, we now know what cars they’re driving in the show, and who’s driving them.

Obviously, hence the name, the episode will likely revolve around the world of rally racing, and each of these three cars have a strong tie to, and history in the sport.

Let’s dig in.

Jeremy Clarkson in the Audi RS4 B7

the grand tour quando esce

Jeremy had already revealed that he’d bought an Audi RS4 for the show many, many months ago, but before seeing behind the scenes photos of the filming of this episode, we didn’t know it would be for this.

Obviously, the connection to rally here is the Quattro term that Audi now uses for its all-wheel drive system. But let’s explore this car a little further.

It was released in 2005 by Audi, and while the look of the car didn’t blow people away, the 4.2-litre V8 engine did with direct fuel injection and maximum revs of a shrieking 8500rpm. It produced 414 horsepower, with these horses being delivered to all four wheels. There was only one gearbox available, but surprisingly it was a manual with six speeds and, once you pressed the sport button, the throttle response would make this delicious powertrain even more exciting and bypass valves would make it sound as good as it went.

the grand tour quando esce

The exterior still felt very sedate, but now offered wider arches over the standard A4 as well as aluminium front wings and bonnet. And a bit later on, the RS4 badge was placed onto the wagon version, too.

the grand tour quando esce

As you can see form the trailer, Jeremy’s RS4 eventually gets wrapped in Quattro colours, fitted with Cibbies at the front, and somehow gets completely frozen over, resulting in Jeremy setting it on fire. Poor thing.

Richard Hammond in the Subaru Impreza WRX

the grand tour quando esce

We first saw the Subaru WRX in an Instagram post by Jeremy Clarkson, but it’s confirmed that it’s being driven by Richard Hammond who has driven one of these cars before in the Africa special of Top Gear .

These cars are pure rally inspired and burble as much as a cat trapped in a corner thanks to its Boxer engine. Many Subaru fans weren’t completely taken with the looks of the ‘Blobeye’ Impreza, but since its release it has become motoring legend thanks to its connection to rally and its insane performance.

the grand tour quando esce

Its engine is a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder Boxer engine with help from a single turbo. It’s low on weight and has a low centre of gravity, and gives it the car its iconic sound as well as 261 horsepower. It’s not quite as potent as Jeremy’s RS4, but with its trick all-wheel drive system and a bit of talent behind the wheel, it could well keep up with it in the corners.

In this episode it’s been given the Martini colours, but we can see later on that the ‘I’ at the end of ‘Martini’ has been coloured in.

James May’s Mitsubishi Evo 8

the grand tour quando esce

The car of the hour, this Mitsubishi Evo 8 driven by James May has had quite a life according to reports. It was crashed by the presenter at a high speed, so we’re not sure if it makes it to the end of the episode. It’s also the only car that doesn’t undergo any visual modification during the episode.

The Evo 8 was launched in 2003 in Japan and saw immediate success thanks to its potent turbocharged 4G63 4-cylinder engine. This produced 289 lb ft and 276 horsepower, but its excellent all-wheel drive system pushed its performance high enough to battle with supercars of that era.

the grand tour quando esce

Its chassis was stiffer than the outgoing Evo7, and the car was treated like it was going to hit a rally stage at any moment with the chassis being spot welded, suspension mounts upgraded, and the suspension itself having an improved MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension setup.

The new bodywork also allowed for better cooling and higher performance aerodynamics.

the grand tour quando esce

James crashed this at such a high speed, I’d be surprised if this car isn’t written off during the show, which would be very sad.

It also gets submerged in water, so…

What Happened Along The Way?

James may crashed.

The  news was leaked of James May’s crash . The host was travelling at 75 mph when he crashed into a wall. He was rushed to hospital for tests including a brain scan. Lucky for  May , it has been reported that he was only left with a broken rib after the scary collision.

It is believed that May had the crash and then carried on to film  James May: Our Man In Italy , so thankfully he was alright to continue with his travel show.

The former  Top Gear  host has taken to his Twitter to acknowledge the reports. There has been a huge amount of support spread for May over social media since the news was announced. He said in his post:

“Thank you for all your kind comments and funny jokes re my crash, but it was a while back, not that bad, and I’m perfectly OK. Apologies to Evo fans for binning the VIII.”

May was joined by co-hosts  Jeremy Clarkson  and  Richard Hammond  for the latest special of The Grand Tour. The trio were spotted  travelling around Norway  in three rally cars. Clarkson in an Audi RS4 B7, Hammond in a Subaru Impreza WRX and May in the Mitsubishi Lancer EVO VIII, which is what he crashed in.

James May On His Crash

“It was a strange lapse of character on my part. I don’t know what I was thinking. I was trying to win, but I don’t normally care about that either. Maybe it was too much reindeer meat. Or air pressure.

“But it’s still going to be mainly Richard Hammond. When I have a crash, I destroy a car that’s worth £15,000.

“When Hammond has a crash he writes off a £1million prototype. That’s the difference — I know not to overdo it.

“I must have left braking a fraction too late. As soon as I knew I needed to stop, I realised I wasn’t going to do it.

“I think you can see from the footage that I should try to hit (the wall) sideways and not hit any people or cameras on tripods. I knew I’d f***ed it up.”

Jeremy Clarkson On James May’s Crash

“It was a massive accident. You know when Hammond has an accident, he keeps going after the accident has begun.

“And this is what people need to remember with accidents: you can roll down a road upside down and on fire for as long as you like, and it’s very unlikely you’ll get hurt.

“What hurts you is coming to a sudden stop. And that’s what happened to James.

“Richard, when he went upside down, didn’t come to a sudden stop. That’s why he’s still here today.

“I’m not entirely certain how fast James hit that rock face, but I’m going to say 40 miles an hour. And from 40 miles an hour to a dead stop is more dangerous than rolling down a hill.

“I was standing right next to him when he crashed. I mean, 10 feet away. And I couldn’t believe how fast he was going.”

Richard Hammond on James May’s Crash

“It is interesting that James is taking up the crashing, because when he joined Top Gear I was always wearing really vibrant loud shirts.

“And then James joined and did the same and I thought, ‘Well, we can’t both do that.’ So I stopped. I just wore ordinary shirts.

“And then he’s recently grown a little goatee.

“And now he’s taken the only thing I had left, which was crashing.

“It’s very flattering that he would consider that level of impersonation, but I’ll let him have that.

“I might keep my little beard, even though he’s now got one. He can have the crashing.”

Executive producer Andy Wilman on James May’s Crash

“Jeremy and James both raced down to the scene of the crash as soon as it happened. When they saw the wreckage on fire they thought Richard was dead. It was really bad.

“They were staggered he had got out of it alive, because there was just nothing left. Everyone is so relieved. If Richard had been a few seconds slower getting out, he would have been incinerated.”

Jeremy Clarkson On James May’s Second Crash

“In the latest episode of  The Grand Tour   there’s a big and alarming crash.

“There’s always a big and alarming crash in  The Grand Tour   of course, but this one was different because the person who was gingerly lifted from the wreckage by paramedics and carefully driven to hospital in the back of an ambulance was not  Richard Hammond . It was the slowest driver in the history of motoring –  James May .”

“Having expressed his displeasure at being left in the field, so to speak, he crashed again. This time not into a cliff face but through the ice and into a frozen lake.

“It’s strange, and it’s something the three of us talk about quite a lot. How, when we are travelling individually or with our families, do we get from A to B without incident – but as soon as we are all together, all hell breaks loose and there are fires and smashed ribs and headlines in the  Daily Mail ?”

The rest of the trip

The cast were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights.

“He crashed the Evo while they were in Tromsø… I did not ask were he was,” a fan told The Grand Tour Reddit page .

Jeremy Clarkson Reveals Subtle Tribute To Ukraine As Grand Tour Episode Filming Begins In Norway

Is There A Release Date For This New Episode?

Yes, the release date 16th September as confirmed in the trailer. It is now available to watch on Prime Video.

Will There Be More Episodes?

Yes, Richard Hammond has confirmed that the trio is filming yet another episode outside of the UK:

Richard Hammond ( @RichardHammond ) on filming another Grand Tour episode: “We’re ready to go off and do another, and they are huge missions to go and do." More at: https://t.co/9vK5NMjHud pic.twitter.com/DSH7jb4hIH — Grand Tour Nation (@GrandTourNation) May 3, 2022
“We’ve already filmed one – we’re not long back from that,” he said referencing the Arctic Circle special. “We’re ready to go off and do another, and they are huge missions to go and do,” he said. “Lockdown was a bit tricky for that, but I think the great thing is I’ve managed to keep busy with other stuff, and we’ll continue to do that. “The joy for me 30 odd years into a broadcasting career, I’m able to do shows at all ends of the spectrum whether being massively costly, complicated, big ones or smaller, quicker, more light and nimble. So they’re all great fun to make. “I’ve been lucky enough to sort of cherry pick and do the shows I really want to do. So you’ll never see me there doing something I’m not really engaged in. They’re all things I want to make.”

We’re very excited to see what comes from The Grand Tour over the next year or so. And as we find out more, we’ll of course keep you updated on GTN.

Jeremy Clarkson Meghan Markle controversy

The-Grand-Tour-Season-5.-Episode-3-Release

Jeremy Clarkson, known for his work on The Grand Tour , Clarkson’s Farm , and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? , found himself at the center of a storm following a column he wrote for The Sun. In this column, he expressed his hatred for Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, in strong and offensive terms. The backlash was immediate and widespread, leading to an investigation by the press regulator and sparking a debate about freedom of speech, responsibility, and the treatment of women in the media.

The Controversial Column

In his column, Clarkson stated that he “hated [Meghan] on a cellular level” and described a violent fantasy involving her being paraded naked through the streets while being pelted with excrement. The language used was widely criticized, and the column received over 6,000 official complaints (via BBC ). Clarkson’s daughter, Emily, publicly denounced her father’s words, and several celebrities and public figures also condemned the article.

The Backlash and Apology

Public reaction.

The reaction to Clarkson’s column was swift and severe. More than 25,100 complaints were lodged with the Independent Press Standards Organisation (Ipso), making it the most complained-about article ever. Many called for Clarkson to be fired or even charged with a hate crime.

Clarkson’s Apology

About a month after the article was published, Clarkson offered an apology, stating that he was “profoundly sorry” and describing his language as “disgraceful”. He explained that he had been referring to a “Game of Thrones” scene but had failed to mention it in the article. The Sun also apologized and removed the article from its website.

Potential Impact on The Grand Tour

Amazon’s response.

While Clarkson continues to host Who Wants to Be a Millionaire on ITV, there have been reports that Amazon may part ways with him . A virtual press event for Clarkson’s Farm was canceled, adding to the speculation.

The Future of The Grand Tour

The controversy could have lasting effects on Clarkson’s career and the future of The Grand Tour . The public’s perception of Clarkson may change, and Amazon’s decision on whether to continue working with him could influence the direction of the show.

Jeremy Clarkson’s comments on Meghan Markle have ignited a firestorm of criticism, leading to an investigation by the press regulator and casting a shadow over his professional future. The situation raises important questions about the responsibility of public figures and the media in their treatment of individuals, especially women. The potential impact on The Grand Tour remains to be seen, but the controversy serves as a stark reminder of the power of words and the importance of using them wisely.

4 things we want to see from the final grand tour special.

Mike Bartholomew headshot

We don’t know a whole lot yet about the upcoming special that will conclude eight years of The Grand Tour , Amazon’s successor to Clarkson / Hammond / May era Top Gear . We know it takes place in Zimbabwe, we know it’ll air at some point later this year, and, thanks to some behind-the-scenes images, we know what cars it’ll feature (more on that below).

Apart from that, we’re in the dark. Fresh from the debut of the penultimate episode, Sand Job , we’ve had a bit of a think about what we’d like to see from the final episode, which will wrap up over two decades of car TV fronted by Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.

It goes without saying, but here’s your fair warning anyway: this article contains spoilers for The Grand Tour: Sand Job, as well as the upcoming Zimbabwe special.

A return to cheaper, older cars

The earlier Top Gear specials followed the formula laid out by the regular show’s cheap car challenges: the presenters were given a pithy sum of money and told to buy a car. This led to some pretty memorable, plucky cars: Clarkson’s breakdown-prone Lancia Beta, May’s remarkably tough Volvo 850R and, of course, Oliver, the Opel Kadett. The fact that the three presenters tended to gravitate towards very different types of cars often lent the episodes a pleasingly mismatched, ramshackle feel too.

The Grand Tour: Carnage a Trois

The idea of having a budget was quietly dropped for the Patagonia special, something that was carried over to The Grand Tour. It reached the point with Sand Job where they were traversing the Sahara desert in a selection of professionally modified, fairly modern open-top grand tourers. While it was deeply impressive to see the sort of abuse these complex cars could stand up to, it also felt a little like they lacked a little of the personality of some of the older, more beat-up cars seen in earlier specials (Hammond’s sentient Aston Martin notwithstanding).

Obviously, it’s far harder now to pick up interesting cars for a couple of grand than it was even five years ago, but even so, a return to some older, less high-end metal wouldn’t go amiss. Happily, it seems our wishes might be granted on this one: the few behind-the-scenes shots that have emerged of the Zimbabwe episode show that the featured cars are a Lancia Beta Montecarlo, Ford Capri and Triumph Stag.

Less predictability

Look, we’re not here to moan about either Top Gear or The Grand Tour being ‘too scripted’. That dead horse has been well and truly beaten by people on the internet, and quite frankly, anyone who truly believed either show was a free-flowing, non-scripted slice of reality in their latter years probably needs to take a good long look at themselves.

The Grand Tour: Lochdown

We mean the things that are included in those scripts. A perilous water crossing was entertaining when it was on a shaky homemade raft in Tanzania, but after building a rickety bridge over the River Kok in Thailand and a ‘floating road’ across a sound in Scotland, it’s diminishing returns each time, until we arrive at the rafts used to cross the river near the end of Sand Job. It’s entertaining, but we can’t help feeling we’ve been here before.

The TG and TGT specials have always leaned into set pieces like these, but the most memorable ones tend to be the least expected: a cow on the roof of a Chevrolet Camaro, a race around an ancient Roman chariot arena, a terrible waxwork of Nigel Mansell being met with misfortune after hilarious misfortune – you get the point.

More beauty and culture

Farcical and chaotic as they can be, Top Gear and The Grand Tour’s specials have always made a point of showing off the natural beauty, local flavour and welcoming people of the countries they visit. You can see it everywhere from the American South to the Scottish Highlands, but it’s most prominent in countries where most viewers’ perceptions are coloured by either what they’ve seen on the news or been told about in history lessons: Vietnam, Iraq, Rwanda and so on.

The Grand Tour: A Massive Hunt

In other cases, it’s nations that we simply don’t really know anything about. We couldn’t have told you much about Mauritania before we watched Sand Job, but one of the absolute highlights of the episode was when the trio visited the capital city, Nouakchott, and looked at some of the astoundingly clapped-out cars that are kept on the road.

The big specials have always been filled with absolutely stunning scenery too – again, we direct you to the ending sequence of Sand Job, with the cars flying down the beach to the epic soundtrack of M83’s ‘Outro’. We hope for, and expect, more of the same from the Zimbabwe episode. The specials have always done a brilliant job of making the setting feel like an active part of the show, not just a backdrop.

A proper send-off

Once the Zimbabwe special is out, it’ll be the first time since 2003 that there hasn’t been a car show presented by Clarkson, Hammond and May either on TV or in the works (barring a few months of uncertainty in 2015 following Clarkson’s dismissal from the BBC). That’s a significant thing for a good couple of generations of car enthusiasts who grew up watching them, and whose car enthusiasm might not have burned as bright without hearing the opening riff of ‘Jessica’ on a Sunday evening or eagerly waiting for the new Grand Tour episode to drop.

The Grand Tour: Seamen

It’s not really the trio’s style to get overly sappy about this sort of thing, but it would be remiss of them to not at least acknowledge the impact they’ve had on car culture for the last two decades.

We got something similar at the end of the final studio episode of The Grand Tour, but even then we already knew we had a few more years’ worth of specials to look forward to. This time, it’s a much more significant ending and, with Top Gear’s future totally up in the air, it means there’ll be no broadly popular big-budget car telly at all for the first time in a long time. That’ll be a strange thing indeed, and we hope it’s treated with the gravity it deserves.

Variety has been granted exclusive access to the trailer (below) for Portuguese director Miguel Gomes ‘ “Grand Tour,” which will have its world premiere in Cannes Film Festival’s Competition section. Variety can also exclusively reveal that that distribution on “Grand Tour” will be handled in France by Tandem, and in Italy by Lucky Red, and that Gomes’ next film will be “Savagery.”

The film stars Gonçalo Waddington and Crista Alfaiate, and the cast also includes Cláudio da Silva and Lang Khê Tran. It is being sold by The Match Factory .

“Grand Tour” is produced by Uma Pedra No Sapato (Portugal) in co-production with Vivo Film (Italy), Shellac Sud (France) and Cinema Defacto (France), in association with The Match Factory (Germany), Rediance (China) and Creatps Inc. (Japan), and with the participation of ZDF/ARTE and RTP.

Gomes was previously in Cannes in 2015 with “Arabian Nights” and in 2021 with “The Tsugua Diaries.” His 2012 film “Tabu” played at the Berlinale.

Speaking to Variety , the film’s producer Filipa Reis explains how the project came together.

It was over dinner with Reis that Gomes first presented his idea for the film, in which narrative sequences shot in a studio would be intercut with footage of contemporary Asia. “The idea was… I don’t know… very appealing and charming,” says Reis, who was a co-producer on “The Tsugua Diaries.” Gomes then asked her to produce it.

The plan was for Gomes to take a small documentary-style crew to seven Asian countries – Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Philippines, Japan and China – shooting in 16mm so “that we could build this archive and then to write the script according to what was found,” Reis says.

Once those funds were in place, Gomes shot the narrative sequences in studios in Portugal and Italy in early 2023.

Reis says it was a “challenge” to do the Asia trip without a script, adding “it’s not as it’s meant to be in the industry, but it was also very appealing.” She adds that it required “a risk” to be taken to shoot the archive footage before applying to the production funds.

Asked how working with Gomes compares with working other directors, she says: “He’s very unique. And I think to work with him, you really have to be very confident about what he’s doing, because it can be a proposal that’s a bit outside the box compared with the way you are used to doing things, and the way the funds and the industry thinks things are supposed to be done.”

During the studio shoot they had “links to some rough edit archive footage, so that when you read the script, you could understand at least how [the narrative footage] crossed over with the archive,” she says. The narrative sequences are in Portuguese, except for one character who speaks in French. The archive footage is in the language of the country that the crew were shooting in.

Although the story takes place in Asia during a time of imperial rule in many countries colonialism isn’t the theme, Reis says, in contrast to “Tabu.” “I would say that it’s something new. Of course, ‘Tabu’ is a great film, but I think this one will be surprising,” she says, enigmatically.

As to the tone of “Grand Tour,” Reis says that it contains both comedy and tragedy, “but it is also melancholic, and it is courageous.” She adds: “I think it has a lot of emotional elements for us to make a connection with it.”

The film was finished in October, and shown to Cannes in November. A world premiere at Cannes was always “Plan A,” Reis says, adding: “I feel as a producer that it’s where the film is supposed to be, and where Miguel is supposed to be.”

At present no preview screenings are planned, although that may change, and Gomes isn’t doing press interviews before the world premiere. “We would like it if the film was discovered by everyone at the same time,” Reis says. “I’m a bit anxious to see how it will be received, and we are very curious about that. So it would be nice if we could make a surprise and share our enthusiasm and our surprise with the audience.”

Reis says that her next project as a producer will be Gomes’ Brazilian-set film “Savagery,” which will be co-produced by Tatiana Leite in Brazil. Further details about the project will be released at a later date.

Lena, our guide in Moscow was excellent. She was very knowledgable and could answer any question we had for her. We liked that she could pick up on our interests and take us places we might not have thought of to go. When we realized that one of the places we had chosen to see would probably not be that interesting to us, she was able to arrange entry to the Diamond Fund and the Armoury for us. Riding the Metro with Lena was a real adventure and a lot of fun. In Saint Petersburg we found Anna well versed in the history of the Tsars and in the Hermitage collection. Arkady in Veliky Novgorod was a very good guide and answered all of our questions with ease. Novgorod was perhaps a long way to go for a day trip, but we did enjoy it. Vasily was a great driver to have and kept us safe with good humour and skill. We enjoyed ourselves so much, my daughter says she is already planning to return. We would both have no hesistation to recommend ExpresstoRussia to anyone we know.

Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will refer you to other potential visitors to Russia as I meet them.

Moscow, a City Like No Other

Moscow is Russia’s largest city with a population of between 12 and 13 million. It is also Europe’s largest city and when you visit Moscow, you can feel it. The layout and architecture of the city is eclectic, ranging from crooked, ancient streets and alleyways to wide, bustling boulevards, from medieval churches to Stalin skyscrapers and to modern, glass buildings towering over everything and of course in the center of it all is the Kremlin and the magnificent Red Square. Moscow is also home to a fantastic, efficient and very beautiful metro system – each station having its own special design. In fact, Express to Russia’s Moscow metro tours and excursions are some of our most popular attractions that we offer. On our Moscow tours, you will see this and more.

Moscow Tours centering on Russian History

Moscow has a long and interesting history and has been the capital of Russia in many of its different iterations – capital of the Grand Duchy of Moscow , the Russian Empire and of course the Soviet Union (who could ever forget the Soviet Union?). Moscow, was founded in the 12th century by Prince Yuri Dolgaruki (Yuri of the long arms – he really did have long arms!). From that time on, it was home to the Russian Tsars until Peter the Great moved the capital to St. Petersburg in 1703. The city has survived invasions and sieges from the Mongols, the Tartars, the Poles, Lithuanians and Napoleon but has always persevered. Our Moscow tours will enlighten you on this great history and give you insights into Muscovites and their unique culture. Our Moscow tours show you what the city is like today but also brings to life the past. Moscow never seems to sleep and is bursting with energy. A Moscow tour with Express to Russia is truly the best way of getting to know Russia’s largest and most vibrant city.

Frequently Asked Questions From Our Travelers

What is the best time to visit moscow.

Any time of year is fine depending on what you plan to do. Summertime is pleasantly warm, ideal for exploring the city and its vibrant atmosphere, but Moscow will be much busier and accommodation is more expensive. Winter can be quite cold but beautiful nonetheless, and this is unproblematic if you intend to spend most of your trip in museums and galleries. There are also various festivals and events organised throughout the year. For more information about the best time to visit, read our guide

How many days are enough in Moscow?

If you plan your itinerary strategically and aren’t averse to a packed schedule, you can cover Moscow’s main sights over a long weekend. Most popular attractions are in the city centre, and the Moscow Metro allows you to cover much ground in a small amount of time. Ensure that your accommodation is fairly central and book tickets in advance, so that you can make the most of your days. For an informative and well-organised day out, check out our Moscow day tours with options to suit all interests.

Do they speak English in Moscow?

As Russia’s capital city, tourists are well accommodated in Moscow. There should be English-speaking staff in restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and attractions in tourist hotspots, and there are also English-speaking tourist police. Transport services have English translations on their maps and English announcements via intercom; alternatively, order taxis from the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber), though it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. If you get stuck and cannot communicate, it’s fine to use Google Translate.

Is it safe to travel to Moscow?

It is no less safe to travel to Moscow than to any European city if you exercise common sense and look after your belongings. As with every city some regions can be more unsavoury than others, but no tourist attractions are located there. The traffic in Moscow is notorious, so exercise caution when crossing roads. Do not take unlicensed taxis; book in advance or take public transport, which is widespread and perfectly safe. If you encounter any problems, look for the special tourist police who can help you.
