From London to Loch Ness: The Best Routes for Epic UK Self-Drive Tours
Are you ready to embark on an unforgettable adventure through the stunning landscapes of the United Kingdom? Look no further than self-drive tours, the perfect way to explore this diverse and captivating country at your own pace. With a wealth of picturesque destinations and scenic routes, the UK offers endless possibilities for those seeking an immersive travel experience. In this article, we’ll guide you through some of the best routes for epic UK self-drive tours, starting from London and leading all the way to the legendary Loch Ness.
The Classic English Countryside Route
Heading north from London, immerse yourself in the classic charm of England’s countryside. This route takes you through picturesque villages, rolling green hills, and historic landmarks that will leave you in awe. Begin your journey by driving towards Oxfordshire, where you can explore the prestigious Oxford University and wander through its enchanting streets lined with medieval architecture.
Continuing northwards, make a stop at Stratford-upon-Avon, birthplace of William Shakespeare. Visit his childhood home and soak up the literary atmosphere before venturing further into the heart of England’s countryside.
Next on your itinerary is the breathtaking Peak District National Park. Drive along winding roads that snake through dramatic landscapes adorned with heather-covered moorlands and limestone cliffs. Take a leisurely walk or hike one of many trails to fully appreciate this area’s natural beauty.
The Scottish Highlands Adventure
Leaving England behind, cross over into Scotland to experience its awe-inspiring landscapes along one of its most iconic routes – The North Coast 500. This circular route begins in Inverness and takes you on a journey around Scotland’s northernmost coastline.
As you drive along this route, prepare to be mesmerized by rugged mountains, pristine beaches, ancient castles, and sparkling lochs. Don’t miss out on exploring famous attractions such as the Eilean Donan Castle, the fairy-tale-like Dunrobin Castle, and the mystical Loch Ness.
The Scottish Highlands offer endless opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts. Take a hike in the Cairngorms National Park, go wild swimming in one of its many lochs, or simply enjoy the tranquility of the breathtaking landscapes around you. With each passing mile, you’ll feel more connected to Scotland’s rich history and untamed beauty.
The Welsh Coastal Expedition
For those seeking coastal beauty and fascinating history, a self-drive tour along Wales’ stunning coastline is a must. Starting from Cardiff, head west towards Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. This rugged and diverse landscape boasts breathtaking cliffs, golden sandy beaches, and picturesque seaside towns.
Continue your journey northwards to Snowdonia National Park. Drive through winding mountain roads and be rewarded with panoramic views of majestic peaks and serene lakes. For adrenaline junkies, Snowdonia offers ample opportunities for hiking, rock climbing, or even zip-lining at Europe’s longest zip line attraction.
The Magical Irish Adventure
No UK self-drive tour would be complete without exploring Ireland’s enchanting landscapes. Begin your Irish adventure in Dublin and drive along the Wild Atlantic Way – a coastal route that stretches over 1,500 miles along Ireland’s western seaboard.
As you traverse this scenic route, marvel at dramatic cliffs like Slieve League and discover charming villages such as Dingle or Galway. Immerse yourself in Ireland’s rich culture by stopping at historic sites like Blarney Castle or exploring the vibrant streets of Dublin’s Temple Bar district.
Embarking on a UK self-drive tour allows you to create your own unique travel experience while immersing yourself in some of the most captivating landscapes this country has to offer. From London to Loch Ness, these routes will take you on an unforgettable journey through England’s countryside, Scotland’s Highlands, Wales’ coastline, and Ireland’s magical landscapes. So grab a map, hop in the car, and get ready for an epic adventure through the United Kingdom.

This is my second time seeing them and I promise won't be the last. Glass House, here I come.
I wanted to bring my girlfriend cause I was telling her how bad ass they were. She gave me the look of, "You want to go so you can see the chick." Yes and no. Aimee is without a doubt a hottie and if this gets to her, yes YOU ARE HOT! But the music is just so great. I can't recall her ever going to a small venue show like that with me. And I question if she'd go again. We started in the front middle and by the time the Interrupters came on, we were tossed to the front right. I'm comfortable with the tossing but I don't know she is.
As for the JMc&tD, BC/BC, & Left Alone, Spotifying them and listening to them. Just great music from them.

ABSOLUTELY F#@KING AWESOME!!!
One of the best gigs I've been to in a long time. I know they are a great band but The Interrupters are fantastic live, thanks for a brilliant night guys!
The atmosphere was great and the crowd was on top form.
The support acts were tops as well, especially Maid of Ace, who are a personal favorite.
Anyone who has not seen any of these bands, go see them, you wont be disappointed.
(a quick apology to Abby of MoA, if I came across rude, it wasn't my intention, I was just starstruck! sorry Abby, sorry girls. Stevo)
From the first act, Sharp Shock, through Skinny Lister & on to the Interrupters themselves, this was a high energy fun-filled evening! I confess to being unaware of the two support bands, but I have been checking them out since the show... The Interrupters though... they are one hell of a band, great music & a fantastic presence on stage, really feeding off of the crowd. Respect to the security team too, they did an excellent job keeping everyone safe without stamping on the fun. A great night out...
The energy in the room was electric. This band connected with us in the audience. There is such a power in their music and they are extraordinary musicians. I honestly cannot recommend these guys enough, everything from guitar solos behind their heads, drum solos that rocked the venue, and vocals that left you speechless. I screamed at the top of my lungs singing with them and have been wearing their band merch every day since the concert.
Very high energy show. Very personable band that loves to interact with the crowd and watch out for their fans.
When the mosh pit got a little too big and and a little too intense, they stopped the show to get all the kids out of harms way and let them stand at the back of the stage with them the entire rest of the show. Very cool gesture to make sure the youngest fans didn't get hurt and also had a great experience to talk about.
One of the best shows I've seen. Veey personable, interacts with the audience, sounds great. The energy is amazing, they put their heart into every song and you can tell they love what they do and are happy to be there. After the set they came down and talked tk the crowd.... not too good to thank us dor coming out. I will never miss another show when they come thru. Thank you thank you thank you cor an amazing night.
The Interrupters were absolutely amazing and I’m so happy that I was able to go. The set was amazing, their performance was amazing, and the interaction that they had with the audience was so good. The crowd got a little crazy but that’s obviously expected. Also the opening bands were also very good and I really enjoyed both of them. Overall it was a great experience and it was a night filled with unforgettable moments.
Well, it's THE INTERRUPTERS! Do they ever put on a bad show - NO! This was a record release party in a record store, so the it was a bit of short set. Could have used more dancin' room as it's tough to skank between record isles. The band was super appreciative of the gig, very friendly and personable at the record signing! If you have never see this band - you're life may very well not be complete!
The Interrupters are a great band on record and their sound holds up live. Great energy and very tight. They had the whole venue dancing. Unfortunately the show ended with pepper spray, fights and cops. They hung around outside after the incidents took place and talked with the crowd. I really hope this night doesn't dissuade them from returning to New Jersey. WE NEED MORE BANDS LIKE THIS!
Excellent performance from start to finish from these guys, would 100% recommend and would definitely see again! Support acts a little hit and miss for my taste (and the wrong way round- buster Shuffle were far better than the skints).
Merch a bit over priced but that seems to be a theme these days, good selection though.

About The Interrupters
Formed in 2011, The Interrupters got together soon after the Bivona brothers’ former band appeared on bills with Aimee during a 2009 tour. With their self-titled debut arriving in 2014, the band soon shared stages with bands like Rancid, Blink 182 & Bad Religion. In support of their second album - Say It Out Loud, they toured all around the world headlining their own shows as well as supporting Green Day in Europe, Australia and South America. The follow-up to Say It Out Loud, Fight the Good Fight finds The Interrupters delivering their two-tone-inspired, powerfully melodic, punk-fueled sound with more vitality than ever before. Working with Rancid frontman and Grammy Award-winning producer Tim Armstrong (who’s now produced all their albums) and Grammy Award-winning mixer Tom Lord-Alge, Aimee and the Bivona brothers channeled that raw energy in part by recording almost entirely to tape.
