The farm boasts over 5000 hectares (13 000 acres) and offers access to an additional 100 000 hectares of malaria-free bushveld and hilly savannah in South Africa. We offer hunters over 40 species of antelope, small game and birds.

What our hunters have to say, best experience of my life.

Where do I even start? What a magnificent trip! There are not enough stars to describe my satisfaction. But I will begin with the booking process. Hailing from Abu Dhabi, I had long harbored the dream of an African hunting trip. I emailed Thorndale Safari, and within 2 hours, I received an email detailing everything. It was 1000% inclusive, covering everything from lodging and animal pricing to taxidermy. Let me say, I booked in a heartbeat. The process was seamless.

Then came the travel day, and Reece contacted me, assuring me that he would be waiting at the Port Elizabeth airport upon my arrival. True to his word, once I walked out, he was there, ready with a warm welcome.

Arriving at the lodge, let me start by saying that pictures and videos truly don’t do it justice. The photos take your breath away, but the actual views are even more stunning. You feel as though you’re in a surreal place. The lodge, perfectly perched on top of a hill, offers an endless view of Thorndale Safari. The rooms are fit for a king, making you feel at one with nature. The lodge and room decorations are stunning. In a hotel review, Thorndale Safari Lodging easily deserves a 5 out of 5 stars for cleanliness, amenities (pool, drinks, TV with Netflix, WIFI, and a firepit), as well as location and views. The hunting experience is out of this world. While I am a well-trained shotgun shooter, my rifle skills needed improvement. Reece and Matthew at the shooting range were instrumental in boosting my confidence. They explained the techniques needed for success and were extremely helpful and patient in ensuring my comfort for the upcoming hunts.

During the hunt, Reece always made sure I was comfortable, narrating every step of the process, from tracking animals to choosing the right rifle caliber. Every time we stalked an animal, he demonstrated the process—how to use the wind to our advantage, how to approach during a stalk, and ultimately, how to hunt. The stalking part was my favorite, bringing me so in touch with what it means to be a hunter. Reece didn’t treat me like a client but rather as a younger brother he was teaching to hunt. His passion and excitement made this experience the best of my life, and that’s saying something for a man who has traveled to 6 continents and 25 countries.

In conclusion, if you are reading this review while on the fence or concerned that everything seems too good to be true, I say go for it. Thank me later when you find yourself writing one of the longest reviews of your life.

The PHs Matthew and Reece were very professional and hospitable, and had great time with them on a personal level as well. The lodge was incredible, comfortable and clean rooms, amazing views, wonderful food, and excellent amenities. The hunting experience was exciting, fun, and professional.

Amazing experience great hospitality!

I visited last April with four of my friends. We were greeted at the airport by our P. H.’s Mathew and Reece who drove us to the ranch. The moment we arrived we fell in love with the place. The lodge was clean and perfectly located on top of a hill overlooking the ranch.

The supporting staff were extremely kind and friendly and the food was unbelievably delicious and abundant.

Hunting was lots of fun with the guidance of Reece and Mathew. I look forward to planning another trip to Thorndale in the near future. If you ever go there choose to hunt an Ostrich.

Best Hunting Experience I ever had

High-quality personal service from the time our PH Mathew and Reece meet me and my family at the airport until they drop us back . It’s only 1 hour drive from Port Elizabeth Airport.

The moment we arrived we fell in love with the place . The 5 star lodge was clean and perfectly located on top of a hill over looking to the ranch – amazing view. Accommodations were well above what I had expected. High density of quality game on their properties. Quality of food and service is excellent.

My PH Reece was very experienced and professional. Takes care of you from the time you get up until you go to bed. The Lodge staff are very pleasant and always there to assist they took care of me and my family with a big smile. I am returning next year to hunt with them.”

I would love to hear if anyone has hunted with Thorndale Safaris in South Africa. Feel free to message me if you prefer. Thank you  

I have not hunted with Thorndale. But, I did a little research and on the surface they look like a good outfit. The prices are competitive with most of the EC outfitters that I have seen. And they are upfront about extra costs, i.e. VAT is included in pricing and airport transfers included etc. But, there is a lot to be said for contacting the outfitter directly and communicating with them. Also requesting references.

I hunted with them in 2011. They came on here a couple of yrs ago claiming their lodge was 5 star. I would call it 4 star. We had some good hunting, but also some issues...... Here is the story of my impala with them https://www.africahunting.com/threads/africa-last-year.8291/#post-58444 Next my Lechwe and Bushbuck: https://www.africahunting.com/threads/my-lechwe-and-bushbuck-hunt.8584/#post-62174 I had a pretty good hunt. There were 4 of us plus my taxidermist at that time showed up after we had been there a few days. Some of the others didn't have as good of hunts..... There were some animals that were not shipped and other issues. If you want a list of the good and the bad I can do that for you. Its been 6 yrs and if your looking at next yr it will be 7 since I have been there. A lot changes in that amount of time. My PH on that trip was Matthew. He was 22 at the time and rather green. The last I heard he was still there. He should know the property and animals well by now. Bruce

I have spoken with them directly and Matt is the current ranch manager. I would love to hear any good and or bad about them in a pm. I have been real happy with communication and adjustment of package to fit our needs so far.
