Masters 2024 Leaderboard: First round scores for golf leaders at Augusta

Follow  live updates from all the Masters action here or check out our  hole-by-hole analysis of Tiger Woods' first round  at Augusta National.

The best golfers in the world have once again converged at Augusta National Golf Club in search of the coveted green jacket. This is the 88th edition of the annual Masters Tournament , so will we see a brand new winner or will one of the 18 former winners playing in this year's tournament claim the championship yet again?

Day 1 proved to be exhilarating. Not only did we see the early tournament favorite, Scottie Scheffler , prove why so many people were backing him to win, but a few dark horses emerged as well. LIV's Bryson DeChambeau leads the entire field after Day 1, shooting 7-under par on Thursday. Other golfers who weren't given great odds to start the tournament like Danny Willet (-5) and Nicolai Højgaard (-4) also played some incredible rounds. Even Tiger Woods had some great moments and moves into Day 2 ranking inside the top-20 at 1-under.

From NFL plays to college sports scores, all the top sports news you need to know every day.

Three more days are left in this year's tournament, with one round played each day. The cut will happen after Day 2, and only the top-50 players on the leaderboard will advance into Saturday and Sunday. It's unforgiving, but what else can you expect from a tournament as heralded as The Masters.

Here is everything that happened during Day 1 of the 2024 Masters Tournament.

LIV Golf Masters Leaderboard: updates, scores for LIV tour as DeChambeau dominates

Editor's note: Follow live coverage of the Masters, leaderboard, highlights and more.

The Masters are here.

The first major tournament of the year started on Thursday, and nearly 90 players were at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia to contend for a highly sought-after green jacket. Thirteen of them are LIV golfers.

Spanish golfer, LIV participant and 2023 Masters champion Jon Rahm will be looking to become the fourth golfer in Masters history to win back-to-back jackets and the first since Tiger Woods in 2001-02.

Several other LIV golfers likely will be in contention for a Masters win by the end of the weekend as well, with Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson and up-and-comer Joaquín Niemann also among favorites.

Though it's red-hot American (and non-LIV golfer) Scottie Scheffler who wass the early favorite after winning his second consecutive Players Championship last month. He also won this year's Arnold Palmer Invitational just one week before his Players win. Scheffler played remarkably well on Day 1 as well, shooting 6-under on Day 1. Still, he sits in second place heading into Friday as LIV's Bryson DeChambeau leads all golfers at 7-under after Thursday.

Tom Watson’s LIV Golf speech at Masters Champions Dinner? It caused a ‘pall’

Tom Watson hits his ceremonial tee shot on Thursday at the Masters.

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Tom Watson says his words on golf’s state of affairs ended the “joviality” at Tuesday’s Masters Champions Dinner.

They also ended the night inside the Augusta National clubhouse.

Speaking Thursday after he, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player started this year’s Masters with ceremonial tee shots , Watson had been asked to comment on “what’s going on in golf.” The reporter had noted that the Masters marks the first tournament since last July’s Open Championship where a number of pros from LIV Golf are playing with pros from the PGA Tour, a scenario that started when Saudi-backed LIV was formed in 2022 and the Tour banned players who jumped to the upstart.

In response to the question, Watson revealed a moment at the Champions Dinner , an annual gathering of previous winners and Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley .

“Well, we all know golf is fractured with the LIV Tour and the PGA Tour doing the different things they are doing,” he said.

“You know, I got up at the Champions Dinner, and it was really a wonderful event. We were sitting down and we were having great stories about Seve Ballesteros and people were laughing and talking. I said to Mr. Ridley, I said, ‘Do you mind if I say something about being here together with everybody?’ He said, ‘Please do.’

“And I got up and I said — I’m looking around the room, and I’m seeing just a wonderful experience everybody is having. They are jovial. They are having a great time. They are laughing. I said, ‘Ain’t it good to be together again?’

“And there was kind of a pall from the joviality, and it quieted down, and then Ray Floyd got up and it was time to leave.

“And in a sense, I hope that the players themselves took that to say, you know, we have to do something. We have to do something.”

Scottie Scheffler on Tuesday at the Masters.

3 surprisingly emotional scenes from Masters press conferences

This Masters is the third year where the PGA Tour-LIV fight has been discussed. In 2022, LIV was two months away from kicking off, but there was talk; then, Phil Mickelson , a three-time green jacket winner, missed the event, after comments involving the league. Last year, there was curiosity; it was the first commingling of PGA Tour stars and LIV stars.

This year, the Masters defending champion, Jon Rahm , is playing five months after he took a nine-figure deal to leave the PGA Tour and join LIV. Also, it has been 10 months since the PGA Tour agreed to a funding deal with LIV’s backer, the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund, though those negotiations continue.

“We all know it’s a difficult situation for professional golf right now,” Watson said. “The players really kind of have control, I think, in a sense. What do they want to do? We’ll see where it goes. We don’t have the information or the answers. I don’t think the PGA Tour or the LIV Tour really have an answer right now.

“But I think in this room, I know the three of us want to get together. We want to get together like we were at that Champions Dinner, happy, the best players playing against each other. The bottom line, that’s what we want in professional golf, and right now, we don’t have it.”

Later in the press conference, Nicklaus and Player echoed Watson when asked what outcome they’d like to see in the PGA Tour-LIV Golf fight. Nicklaus said he often talks with PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan .

“The best outcome is the best players play against each other all the time,” Nicklaus said. “That’s what I feel about it. And how it’s going, I don’t know, I don’t think I’m — I don’t want to be privy to it. I talked to Jay not very long ago, and I said, ‘Jay,’ I said, ‘don’t tell me what’s going on because I don’t want to have to lie to the press and people that ask me questions.’

“I said, ‘How are you doing?’ He said, ‘We’re doing fine.’ “I said, ‘OK, that’s all I want to know.’ “If Jay thinks we’re doing fine, we’ll get there, I think we’ll get there. And I certainly hope that happens, the sooner the better.”

Honorary Starters Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson and Gary Player.

The drivers Nicklaus, Player, and Watson used to kick off the Masters

Player said the confrontation was unhealthy.

He said should LIV players one day come back to the PGA Tour, the latter should be compensated for not originally leaving.

“It’s very simple: Anytime in any business whatsoever, not only in the golf business, there’s confrontation, it’s unhealthy,” Player said. “You’ve got to get together and come to a solution. If you cannot — it’s not good. The public don’t like it, and we as professionals don’t like it, either.

“But it’s a big problem because they paid all these guys to join the LIV Tour fortunes, I mean, beyond one’s comprehension and the players that were loyal, three of us and others.

“Now these guys come back and play, I really believe the players, that if they are loyal, should be compensated in some way or another; otherwise, there’s going to be dissension.”

Masters 2024 — leaderboard, tee times, how to watch

The sun is shining and the winds are gusting at Augusta National for the second round of the Masters on Friday.

Bryson DeChambeau was the 18-hole leader after shooting an opening-round 65. It was DeChambeau's lowest round at Augusta in his career.

But lurking close behind is Scottie Scheffler, the 2022 Masters champion, who shot a bogey-free 66. Scheffler tees off at 1:48 p.m. ET Friday as he continues his pursuit for a second green jacket.

Meanwhile, Tiger Woods shot an opening-round 73. The five-time Masters champion is trying to extend his Masters consecutive cuts-made streak to 24.

How to play the par-5 2nd hole on Friday

The par-5 2nd is still playing below par today — nearly half a stroke under, actually. But it’s also a pretty good model for what Augusta National is going to give this afternoon, and how the players cannot try to take more.

It’s simply not an eagle hole today — the pin position is middle left, guarded by a bunker. If you’re in the left of the fairway the trees are going to block your access to it with your second shot. If you’re in the right, you still have probably 225 to 250 yards, with these 30-mile-per-hour gusts pushing everything around.

I watched Tiger Woods, Max Homa and a few others shoot for the right, then give themselves a long putt or chip across the green for their third shot. But Sahith Theegala and Jordan Spieth laid up, giving themselves something closer to 100 yards in but from an angle that let them attack the flag stick. Spieth birdied it as a result.

It's time to pay attention to Nicolai Højgaard

Who knows how long Nicolai Højgaard can keep this up, but it's time to give proper attention to a really exciting young player weathering tough conditions to stay two shots back of the lead. It's a loaded group of Masters debutants, but all the attention was on Ludvig Åberg and Wyndham Clark. But the 23-year-old Dane is one of the best young players in golf and was on Europe's winning 2023 Ryder Cup team. He even won the DP World Tour Championship and finished second at Torrey Pines. He's really good.

But few thought of him as somebody to watch at his Masters debut. He hasn't done well at majors (yet), and he's really struggled in the last six events. But here he is, right in the mix. He finished round one at 5-under, but maybe the more impressive thing is Højgaard bogeying 5 and 6 today and bouncing back with birdies on 9 and 10. This shows he can withstand some adversity here, and he has the talent to compete with anyone.

T37: Tiger WOODS (+1) E thru 6

It remains compelling viewing for those following Woods. Having got caught in the fairway bunkers on the 5th, Woods couldn't quite recover to salvage par.

Then Tiger chips in a classic from the fringe between green and bunker on the 6th, to keep level.

It's clearly a battle, but it's still a lot of fun to see one of the greats chase something special.

Bryson is back out there

T1: Bryson DECHAMBEAU (-7) 1st tee

The overnight leader is back on the course - and he has smashed a 305yd opener down the middle of the fairway.

Let's see if DeChambeau can deliver the ideal back-up to that wonderful first-round 65. It's certainly a promising start.

Promising start could reap big rewards for 'clutch' Homa

Promising start could reap big rewards for 'clutch' Homa

Max Homa is as well-known for his major struggles as any top player. He didn't get his first career major top-10 until last July's Open Championship, and he's never been better than 43rd at Augusta.

Today? He's co-leader at the Masters.

He ended yesterday before the stoppage at 5-under, but more importantly he was one of the few in the field to not get crushed by the wind in the morning restart. He birdied 16 and 17 with perfect iron shots, bogeyed 18 and ended the round at 6-under.

Now four holes into round two, Homa looks as dialed as we've ever seen him at a major. He's had birdie putts on all four holes and made two difficult ones to become co-leader at 7-under.

The problem with Homa is never about how he does in contention. He's actually quite clutch. The issue is ejected on Thursday and Friday. This is a massive step forward for the No.11 player in the world.

Fabulous putt takes Homa tied top 🐦

Fabulous putt takes Homa tied top 🐦

T1: Max HOMA (-7) -2 thru 4

We finally have a name alongside Bryson DeChambeau on top of the leaderboard and what a way to do it.

Max Homa sinks a 34ft putt on the par-3 4th to go two-under for his second round and join DeChambeau on -7.

What a beauty of a putt.

Justin Ray

Encouraging trend for Homa

Max Homa 's first 20 holes at The Masters over the last four years:

Hojgaard suffers consecutive drops 🔻

Hojgaard suffers consecutive drops 🔻

T6: Nicolai HOJGAARD (-3) +2 thru 6

Having picked up that annoying bogey on the 5th, Hojgaard then sees an 18ft putt roll past the right of the cup to make it successive dropped shots.

The Dane is now two-over for his second round and losing ground on the leaders.

That was short-lived 🔻

That was short-lived 🔻

T27: Tiger WOODS (+1) E thru 4

Oh Tiger. He chips past the hole on the fourth and then watches his 6ft putt for par roll just under the hole.

That's a blow after his birdie on the third.

Tiger loves the third

That is Tiger Woods' 24th career birdie at the 3rd hole at Augusta National and his 23rd birdie there since 2000.

That is second to only one player: Phil Mickelson (30).

Woods gets moving 🐦

Woods gets moving 🐦

T27: Tiger WOODS (E) -1 thru 3

Now that is a cheer. Woods plays the par-4 3rd perfectly, his approach leaving a 9ft birdie putt.

Woods reads the left-to-right break to pick up his first shot on his second round, having gone close at the previous hole.

That record 24th consecutive Masters' cut moves a little closer.

Homa rejoins Scheffler on -6 🐦

Homa rejoins Scheffler on -6 🐦

T2: Max HOMA (-6) -1 thru 2

Homa is continuing to impress here. It's a comfy birdie on the par-5 2nd, which is playing short for most so far. And with that, Homa is level with Scheffler.

Still noticeable how gusty the wind is, and that Augusta is still holding onto some of its slower pace due to the moisture. But it will dry out and quicken up eventually if the rain holds off.

Hojgaard misses from four feet 🔻

Hojgaard misses from four feet 🔻

T4: Nicolai HOJGAARD (-4) +1 thru 5

That's a frustrating one for Hojgaard, who manages to miss a 4ft putt for par on the par-4 5th.

The ball rims out agonizingly and with that, the Dane drops to tied-fourth, three shots off the lead.

Birdie chance goes begging for Woods

T35: Tiger WOODS (+1) E thru 2

How Tiger would dearly love to pick up some shots, and it looks like his first birdie of his second round could arrive at the 2nd.

A lovely third takes him to within 11ft and a genuine birdie chance - but his putt stops just short and Woods will have to wait.

If he's to make sure of his record-breaking cut, he could do with picking up one or two over this round.

Up and down for Davis 🔻

DAVIS 🔻

T6: Cameron DAVIS (-3) E thru 9

It's been a messy end to the front nine of Davis' second round.

A lovely tee shot on the 6th left an 11ft putt for a birdie that the Australian tucked away, but hitting the bunker on his third shot at the 7th led to a double bogey on the par-4.

Sinking a 30ft putt for a birdie on the par-5 8th was a lovely response but his second on the 9th saw him back in the sand and he couldn't salvage par.

That drops Davis off Willett's clubhouse pace and he's now tied-sixth.

No rest or recuperation yet for Tiger

No rest or recuperation yet for Tiger

This morning is the biggest test for Tiger Woods this week.

He looked sharp and even healthy (relative to him!) yesterday as he finished the day 1-under through 13 holes. But we know the biggest challenge for Woods is the hours of recovery at night mixed with the hours of warm-up before a round, as he fights through a 48-year-old body filled with metal and fusions.

So having to finish his first round this morning (+1) and then get his body right back for round two 30 minutes later is a lot to ask.

He now off with a par at the first. We'll see if his solid start can continue.

Morikawa makes ground as the first rounds finish 🏠

The final trio wrap up the 18th, with Tommy Fleetwood dropping a shot to finish level par.

Collin Morikawa balanced that with a superb 35ft putt to claim a birdie leave him with a one-under 71.

And with that, the first round is complete.

Harman's back nine hits new heights

Just on Brian Harman, his was the highest second-nine score since Ben Crenshaw in the opening round in 2015, when he shot 48.

It is also the highest second-nine score by a non-former champion or player under 50-years-old since Danny Lee shot 47 in round twp of the Masters in 2009.

Split round tears Harman's hopes apart

Split round tears Harman's hopes apart

Delays and split-up rounds can be a brutal draw in this sport.

Brian Harman was 2-under through 10 holes when play was suspended last night. He was a contender. But when play restarted today, Harman shot 11-over on the final eight holes.

Yes, you read that right.

The reigning Open Champion shot the back nine in 47 thanks to back-to-back bogeys on 11 and 12 followed by a double bogey on 13. He finished with double bogeys on each of the last three holes to end 9-over.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a restart collapse of this level.

2024 Masters one and done picks, DFS lineups, sleepers, fantasy golf projections, longshots by PGA expert

Mike mcclure locked in his expert pga golf picks, daily fantasy lineups, fantasy golf projections and sleepers for masters 2024 at augusta national.

scheffler.jpg

The 2024 Masters gets underway on Thursday from Augusta National Golf Club at 10:30 a.m. ET, a two-and-a-half hour delay due to storms. No golfer around the world is playing better right now than World No. 1, Scottie Scheffler. The 2022 winner of this event, Scheffler won the elevated Arnold Palmer Invitational in March and again the following week at the Players Championship. He then nearly won for the third straight tournament, missing a putt on the 72nd hole to force a playoff at the Houston Open. The tee-to-green specialist gained 17 strokes on the field when he won here in 2022 and will try to continue his torrid run. Given his run of dominant play, should Scheffler be the top choice when constructing your 2024 Masters DFS picks, 2024 Masters fantasy golf rankings, and 2024 Masters one and done strategy? Before locking in your 2024 Masters one and done picks, Masters DFS lineups on DraftKings and FanDuel, and fantasy golf projections, you need to see what SportsLine DFS pro and PGA expert Mike McClure has to say .

McClure is a DFS legend with over $2 million in career winnings, and he's been red-hot on his PGA picks dating back to the PGA Tour restart in June of 2020. McClure uses his proprietary simulation model to analyze the field and crush his  golf picks . He is up almost $9,500 on his best bets since the restart.

McClure's model predicted Jon Rahm would finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. At the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm's second career major victory heading into the weekend. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scottie Scheffler winning in 2022.

McClure has been on fire with his One and Done picks in 2024. At The American Express, he backed Justin Thomas, who finished in third place and took home $635,600. At the Genesis Invitational, McClure tabbed Patrick Cantlay, who finished in fourth place at the signature event, as his top OAD pick. At the Cognizant Classic, McClure's top one and done pick, Min Woo Lee, finished in a tie for second place. Finally, at the Arnold Palmer Invitation, another signature event, McClure recommended using Scheffler and Will Zalatoris. The result: Scheffler won the event by five strokes, and Zalatoris finished in fourth place.

This same model has also nailed a whopping 10 majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed McClure's picks has seen massive returns.

Now, McClure has dialed in on the 2024 Masters golf tournament and just locked in his one and done picks, DFS projections and Fantasy Golf predictions. They are a must-see for any player looking for an edge. You can only see McClure's Masters 2024 one and done picks, DFS lineups and Fantasy Golf plays at SportsLine .

Top 2024 Masters One and Done picks

One of McClure's top One and Done picks for the Masters is Brooks Koepka. Though his recent form hasn't been overly impressive, with only one top-10 finish in 2024, Koepka is a 'big game hunter' who thrives in major tournaments. In his last five Masters Tournaments, the American has two second place finishes and a seventh.

The winner of last year's PGA Championship, Koepka has four wins and 12 top-10 finishes in his last 21 majors. With a green jacket because his most treasured goal going forward, Koepka is a viable play again at Augusta. McClure is once again confident in the five-time major champion's chances this week.  You can see who else to back at SportsLine .

Top 2024 Masters DFS picks, lineup advice

One golfer McClure is targeting in his 2024 Masters DFS lineups is Justin Thomas. The 15-time PGA Tour winner has long been considered one of the top ball-strikers and irons players in the world and has a proven track record of success in big events. Thomas has two career major championships and six top-25 finishes in eight career starts at Augusta National.

Thomas' ability to card birdies and eagles makes him standout among the field when building Masters DFS lineups. He enters Masters week ranked sixth on the PGA Tour in strokes gained on approach (0.795) and 12th in strokes gained tee-to-green (1.124). After a disappointing 2023 season, Thomas has bounced back with four top-12 finishes already in 2024.  You can see the rest of McClure's Masters DFS picks at SportsLine .

Top 2024 Masters Fantasy Golf picks, projections

One of McClure's top fantasy golf picks is Scottie Scheffler. He's won eight times in the last 26 months and been No. 1 in the world for the last 47 weeks in a row (81 total). You'll pay a premium for Scheffler and he'll be highly rostered in Masters DFS tournaments as well as the first player off the board in any draft format, but that's a price you should be willing to play considering how dominant he's been of late.

Scheffler has two wins and a runner-up finish over his last three starts, which happens to coincide with a putter change that has helped make him nearly a tour-average putter. Considering that he's already the world's best ball-striker (2.798 strokes gained: tee-to-green per round), his game could be elevated. Scheffler has never finished worse than 19th in four starts at Augusta and the 2022 Masters champion is a +325 favorite (bet $100 to win $325) in the 2024 Masters odds.  You can see the rest of McClure's Masters fantasy golf picks at SportsLine .

How to make Masters 2024 picks, long shot bets

McClure is also targeting targeting six other golfers with odds of 20-1 or longer who will make a strong run at the green jacket. You can find out who they are, and check out all of McClure's Masters picks and best bets at SportsLine .

Who will win the Masters 2024, and which golfers should you target for your PGA one and done picks, DFS lineups, and Fantasy Golf plays this week at Augusta National Golf Club?
