Adaptive cruise control supplements conventional cruise control with an active vehicle-to-vehicle distance control feature. Designed for use on freeways and express ways, in vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode, your car automatically accelerates or decelerates in order to maintain a preset following distance from the vehicle traveling directly ahead of you.

To activate the system, press the "ON/OFF" button at the end of the stalk on the lower end of the right side of the steering wheel. The radar-ready indicator will appear in the Multi Information Display.

Accelerate or decelerate to your intended speed, then press the stalk down to set it. If you want to go faster, push the stalk upward and hold until you've reached the desired speed and then release it. Or, if you want to slow down, push the stalk down and hold as you decelerate, then release it once you've reached the desired speed.

To cancel cruise control, tap the brakes, pull the stalk towards you or turn the system off with the ON/OFF button.

Adaptive Cruise Control was designed to maintain the preset distance between your car and the car driving in the same lane directly ahead of you.

When it’s active, it automatically adjusts for changes in the speed of the vehicle traveling directly ahead of you in order to maintain the vehicle-to-vehicle distance you set.

In the event that you would like to change the preset distance between vehicles, you can do so by using the radar range button located on the lower right side of the steering wheel. Simply press the button repeatedly to cycle through the ranges available. You'll find them displayed on the Multi Information Display. And finally, you can disable the distance holding feature by pushing the cruise control stalk away and holding it until the indicator disappears and the conventional cruise control indicator lights up.

Adaptive Cruise Control vs. Cruise Control

The first iteration of the more-basic cruise control system in older Toyota models helps the vehicle maintain a steady speed, ideal for highway cruising.

Adaptive cruise control (ACC) enhances the conventional system by adjusting the car’s speed to match the vehicle in front, especially when the latter slows down.

When the vehicle ahead changes lanes or accelerates, the ACC will return your car to the speed you set.

Newer Toyotas have Toyota Safety Sense, a bundle of active safety features which include dynamic radar cruise control.

The following rival makes also have popular models with ACC:

  • Honda vehicles with ACC .
  • Nissan vehicles with ACC .

2022 Toyota Tundra - Everything You Need to Know

With less than impressive sales in one of the most profitable segments of the American vehicle market, and an ageing, 14-year old generation still on dealer lots, the Toyota Tundra is arguably due for a complete overhaul. And I’m here to tell you that the all-new and improved 2022 Tundra is closer than ever, with an estimated launch date sometime towards the end of 2021 as a 2022 model year.

Keep reading to find out all the latest information regarding the third generation Toyota Tundra, a truck that will be „dominating” soon.

The New Tundra Is a Well-Kept Secret, But Its Suspension Isn’t

I’ll start by saying that Toyota is VERY good at keeping the all-new Tundra out of public sight, with just a handful of spy shots ever made, and even those photos show heavily camouflaged prototypes that have some sort of street sweeper-tech in the back to hide the rear suspension setup.

But even so, I can confidently say that the third-generation Toyota Tundra will sport a solid rear axle with coil springs, and not leaf springs. How this will affect the payload, I don’t know, but I’m pretty sure it will make the Tundra a much more comfortable truck altogether.

Six Lugs and an Updated Platform?

Another thing that’s visible in the spy shots is the six-lug hubs, which may indicate a beefier drivetrain configuration, seeing how the current gen truck has a five-lug setup.

But this change probably has more to do with the platform switch that will occur with the launch of the new generation. You see, the current Tundra shares its platform with a bunch of other Toyota and Lexus models, and this is part of the reason why the Tundra was kept the way it is now.

But with the reported change of platform, there will be a lot of different and new things brought to the table, including those six-lug wheels. And these changes will apply to all the other models that will be completely updated after the new Tundra is unveiled, with the first in line probably being the Sequoia.

As for the looks, there’s an older and very low-resolution leaked video of a Toyota dealer meeting that shows a teaser of the upcoming Tundra. There’s also a leaked photo of a headlight, and both seem to look the same.

Lots of LED Lighting But Similar Design

Based on these, a bunch of render artists tried their hand at guessing how the third-generation Tundra would look like. And it seems we’ll see a lot of LED lights, starting from the daytime running lights and continuing with the fog lamps and possibly the main beams.

According to Automotive Press International, Toyota’s truck will be offered with four different grille styles, along with different trim levels.

This approach would be similar to Ford’s strategy with the F-150, and shows Toyota is ready to offer a more personalized experience.

V-6 Power Could Replace the V-8 of Today Thanks to Hybridization

And now for the engine. Currently, the Tundra is offered with a 5.7-liter V8 that makes 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque. It’s a throaty engine, but it’s not exactly a fuel economy champion, with an estimated 13 to 17 miles per gallon.

And this can only mean one thing: the upcoming truck will most probably ditch the V8 in favor of a smaller, turbocharged V6 that will be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Rumors say that a hybrid setup will probably make its way under the hood as well, seeing how Toyota has hybrids of pretty much all their other models.

This would compete directly with the recently-revealed Ford F-150 hybrid which uses a 3.5-liter V6 and has a total power output of 500 horsepower.

Updated Safety and Comfort Technology

Inside, expect the new Tundra to offer Toyota’s latest safety features, like adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist and blind spot monitoring, as well as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and cool stuff like a laptop stand to rival that of the F-150.

According to Automotive News, Toyota dealers are really excited for this truck, partly because they think it can take a better share of the full-size truck segment, and partly because pickups are some of the most profitable things with wheels they can sell.

It’s Said that the Toyota Tundra Will Be Best In Class

But anyway, US dealers have apparently been told that they’ll get a “best in class, world beater” truck. This would mean, among other things, a bigger towing capacity than the current generation’s 10,200 pound-limit, and also a bigger payload capacity than the current 1,730-pound limit.

It also means the Tundra would finally have a chance to outsell any of the other big trucks made by Ford, Ram and Chevy. This has never happened before, and Toyota obviously doesn’t like the way things are. I mean, they have the best-selling car in America - the Camry, and also the best-selling mid-size truck in America - the Tacoma. Toyota is also the world’s top-selling car maker, so it’s obvious they had to do something to be more competitive on the highly lucrative full size truck market.

And I think they’ll have a shot - they’re determined, for one - but the Tundra has a sort of cult following, which will probably just intensify as the new generation arrives.

Third-Gen Toyota Tundra Reveal Date and Pricing

Speaking of the reveal, all signs point towards an end-of 2021 unveiling, with production set to begin in late fall for the 2022 model year at Toyota’s San Antonio pickup assembly plant. Pricing has yet to be announced, but with a slew of new safety and tech kit on board, expect the base price to be higher than what is currently on offer. Hey, you can’t have new AND cheap, okay?

What are your thoughts on the new Toyota Tundra? Do you like the way it will look or are you more of a Chevy slash Ford design fan? Let me know in the comments below.

Cars with Adaptive Cruise Control: Everything You Need to Know

Cars with adaptive cruise control used to be considered a luxury only featured in state-of-the-art vehicles. Still, with technological advancements, adaptive cruise control is now a common feature found in many different car models.

Cruise control buttons on modern car and speed limitation

Cars with adaptive cruise control used to be considered a luxury only featured in state-of-the-art vehicles. Still, with technological advancements, adaptive cruise control is now a common feature found in many different car models. Autobytel says this means ACC is now accessible to everyone, and even if your current vehicle doesn't have ACC, you can always have it installed.

What Does Adaptive Cruise Control Do?

Adaptive cruise control uses advanced sensory technology to determine your car's speed in proximity to other vehicles or objects on or around the roadway. It applies moderate brakes and warning signals when a driver is getting to close to another car. Drivers can set the speed limit on the ACC so that they don't exceed the speed limit, but when the sensory technology detects traffic or other unsafe conditions, it reduces the driver's speed to adapt to them.

The Best Cars With Adaptive Cruise Control

1. 2020 bmw 3 series.

This brand new model offers the best combination of sensory technology . It uses cameras in addition to ultrasonic and radar sensors to pull data about the environment surrounding the vehicle. In addition to its sensory features, it also has a "stop-and-go" brake feature, great for commuters who spend extended amounts of time in stand-still traffic as it alleviates the stress on the driver's legs and feet. What's more, the camera sensor can pick up traffic signs such as speed limit signs and reduce or increase speed to match the recommended rate of speed.

2. 2020 Volvo S60

This new model by Volvo has a "Pilot Assist" feature, which makes driving safe and easy. What this feature does is it helps the driver maintain the proper speed with neighboring vehicles, and it also provides steering assistance along with automatic braking or accelerating for situations such as stop-and-go to free-flowing traffic. Another great aspect of this model is that it doesn't rely on a lead car to determine speed and spacing, so you can use it even when you aren't near another car.

3. 2020 Hyundai Sonata

This new Hyundai model has the same technological systems as other Hyundai models, called "SmartSense advanced driving assistance systems." The 2020 Hyundai Sonata includes SmartSense features such as five cameras, three radar sensors, and 12 ultrasonic sensors to help with things such as advanced cruise control, stop-and-go feature, warning signals, and automatic braking or accelerating.

4. 2020 Nissan Altima

The 2020 Nissan Altima features Nissan's "ProPilot Assist" system, which uses advanced technology to help drivers practice safe driving. It allows drivers with automatic acceleration and braking for speed and distance control, while it also uses automatic steering to help them maintain lane control. These helpful features are made possible by its front-facing cameras, sensors, radar, and electronic control module.

5. 2020 Toyota Corolla Hatchback

This new model provides drivers with an adaptive cruise control system, specifically designed for highway travel. Its cruise control features include cameras within the car and radar sensors on the front grille that can gauge your car's proximity and speed when compared to other vehicles around you. Similarly, these sensors help determine the rate of speed of the vehicle in front of you and automatically decrease your speed if the vehicle in front of you slows down.

The Cheapest Cars With Adaptive Cruise Control

According to U.S.News, here are some examples of the cheapest cars you can buy that still have adaptive cruise control features:

1. 2019 Kia Soul

You can get Kia's "smart cruise control" feature as part of their "Primo Package." This add-on is around $4,500 in addition to the original selling-price. You can save energy with its automatic braking system, and also keep a safe following distance thanks to its forward-collision warning feature. In addition to these safety features, the Kia Soul also provides drivers with a heated steering wheel, and in-depth seat adjustments to meet more complex needs for your body type.

2. 2018 Mazda 3

The 2018 Mazda 3 provides drivers with an adaptive cruise control system that detects rear-cross traffic and blind-spot monitoring, great for making safe lane changes. It also offers a "premium equipment package" for just $1,600 in addition to the original selling price. This package gives your vehicle advanced safety features and other add-ons such as a heated steering wheel and a built-in navigation system.

3. 2018 Hyundai Sonata

The 2018 Hyundai Sonata offers buyers the "technology package" for just $1,000. Included in this package are adaptive cruise control to help drivers maintain a safe following distance and adequate speed. This model also comes with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

4. 2018 Toyota Rav4

This 2018 Toyota Rav4 SUV includes an adaptive cruise control system for a fee that increases the original selling price to just above $25,000. When you turn your ACC feature on, it uses its radar sensors to administer collision warnings, automatic braking, and acceleration to make sure that your vehicle moves at a safe pace and maintains an appropriate following distance from other vehicles on the roadway at all times.

The 2018 Toyota Rav4's adaptive cruise control system is categorized as "standard equipment" in Toyota's "Safety Sense P suite of technology," Making it a high-tech safety vehicle for a reasonable price point.

5. 2018 Honda Accord

The 2018 Honda Accord features a state-of-the-art adaptive cruise control system called the "Honda Sensing System." This system offers not only adaptive cruise control but also several other useful safety features, including automatic braking for collision prevention and traffic sign recognition.

These features are powered by camera sensing technology that can read traffic signs such as speed limit markers and adjust the Accord's speed to fit those speed requirements. You can get even more safety features by upgrading to higher-trims.

As adaptive cruise control becomes more readily available, you can find cheap and affordable car models that include much of the same technology as modern luxury cars.

Only 1 Full-Size Pickup Truck Includes Adaptive Cruise Control On Every Trim

Many modern technologies improve car safety and convenience. For example, adaptive cruise control detects vehicles in front of you and slows your truck to keep pace with surrounding traffic. Adaptive cruise control is available on most new trucks, as an upsell. But this handy technology comes standard on every trim of the 2022 Toyota Tundra.

Which pickup truck has adaptive cruise control?

Almost every new pickup truck is available with adaptive cruise control. That said, most automakers charge extra for this feature. The 2022 Toyota Tundra is the only full-size pickup truck that includes adaptive cruise control on every trim.

Beautiful highway running between a lake and mountain range.

Even Ford’s entry-level F-150 XL is loaded with technology. It includes an 8-inch capacitive touch LED screen with Ford’s SYNC infotainment system. It also has selectable drive modes, an electronic shift-on-the-fly transfer case, and wiper-activated headlights. Every F-150 trim has Co-Pilot 360 Technology with automatic braking . But the base trim F-150 does not have standard cruise control, let alone adaptive cruise control.

The Ram 1500 is the only full-size 2022 truck that does not come with automatic emergency braking. This is because the lower trim levels of the Ram 1500 do not come with sensors to detect obstacles. Without these sensors, the Ram 1500 also does not have adaptive cruise control. To get auto braking and adaptive cruise control you need to upgrade your 2022 Ram 1500 with the Safety Group option.

Every 2022 General Motors light-duty pickup truck offers “Chevy Safety Assist.” This means that all 2022 GMC Sierra 1500s and Chevrolet Silverado 1500s come with forward collision alert, lane keep assist, and even emergency braking. Just like the F-150, these trucks have all the hardware necessary for adaptive cruise control. But this feature is still an option that costs extra on most trim levels.

What does Toyota’s Safety Sense 2.5 include?

Toyota’s new Safety Sense 2.5 is a suite of driver aids that come standard on most of the automaker’s products. It offers more features than some competitors’ packages, including adaptive cruise control.

Gray Toyota pickup truck driving down the highway with adaptive cruise control.

Toyota launched the Tundra’s third generation for the 2022 model year. The advanced truck leads its segment with available technology such as a 14-inch touchscreen and trail cameras.

Every 2022 Toyota Tundra trim, from the entry-level SR to the top-of-the-line Capstone features Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 . This package of driver aids includes a full pre-collision braking system capable of detecting pedestrians, lane departure alerts and lane keep assist , automatic high beams, and even adaptive cruise control.

Toyota labels adaptive cruise control as Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC). This driver aid uses the truck’s radar system to detect nearby traffic and slow down the truck without driver input. It also can read road signs. This way, you can set a target cruising speed and your truck will drive at the speed whenever possible, but also slow down when necessary.

Which pickup trucks do not have adaptive cruise control?

You can order adaptive cruise control on the regular 2022 Ram 1500. But if you buy the 2022 Ram 1500 Classic, you cannot get adaptive cruise control. Many heavy-duty trucks also do not offer the feature.

Interior of an all-new Toyota Tundra pickup truck with adaptive cruise control.

Ram introduced the fifth-generation of its full-size, light-duty pickup truck for the 2019 model year. The 2019-present Ram 1500 is only available with the four-door quad cab and even larger crew cab. But Ram continues to offer its fourth-generation truck, with a two or four door cab, as a bare bones work truck. It is badged as the Ram 1500 Classic.

The 2022 Ram 1500 Classic has all the safety technology required by law, such as a backup camera and thus an infotainment screen. But it is not available with any proximity sensors. Therefore, you cannot order a Ram 1500 Classic with pre-collision alerts, auto braking, or adaptive cruise control.

Every full-size truck manufacturer has pledged to include auto braking by September 2022. If they keep their promise, every new pickup will have some form of proximity sensors by the 2023 model year. This does not mean they will all include adaptive cruise control standard, but they will all have the hardware to include it.

This pledge does not apply to heavy-duty trucks; while some already offer adaptive cruise control, it may be a long way off for other brands.

2024 Toyota Land Cruiser: Hybrid power and advanced tech usher in off-road hero’s new era

toyota tundra adaptive cruise control

SAN DIEGO – After two years out of the U.S. market, the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser midsize SUV revives one of Toyota’s proudest model names with an all-hybrid lineup and loads of other advanced technology to compete with off-roaders like the Ford Bronco, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Land Rover Defender 110.

The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser's styling consciously echoes the 1958 model that was one of the automaker's early successes in the United States. Prices start at $55,950, excluding destination charges.

The new model’s boxy exterior and available two-tone paint consciously recall the 1958 Land Cruiser that was one of Toyota’s first successes in the American market, while its price and features establish it as one of the brand’s modern flagships.

The five-passenger SUV shares its GA-F architecture and many other systems with Toyota’s other body-on-frame trucks: the Tundra, Tacoma, Sequoia and upcoming 4Runner and Lexus GX and LX. The Land Cruiser is similar in size to the less expensive and even more off-road oriented 4Runner arriving this fall.

2024 Toyota Land Cruiser trim levels and prices

2024 Land Cruiser prices start at $59,950. It’s on sale now.

  • Land Cruiser 1958: $55,950
  • Land Cruiser: $61,950
  • Land Cruiser First Edition: $74,950

Source: Edmunds. Prices exclude $1,395 destination charge.

Powerful and efficient, but premium fuel raises cost of driving

The Land Cruiser measures 193.8 inches long, 0.3 inch longer than a Grand Cherokee. At 76.1 inches tall, the Land Cruiser’s roof is 5.3 inches higher than the Jeep’s.

The Jeep’s wheelbase is 4½ inches longer than the Land Cruiser’s 112.2 inches. That suggests a smaller turning radius for the Jeep, but Toyota did not allow on-road evaluation drives. Impressions of its behavior in parking lots, on highways and city streets will have to wait.

All Land Cruisers have full-time all-wheel drive and a two-speed transfer case for off-roading. An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard.

All Land Cruisers have a turbocharged 2.4L four-cylinder engine linked to Toyota’s proven hybrid electric system.

The powertrain produces 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. Both figures top the competitors’ base powerplants.

The hybrid’s EPA estimated fuel economy of 22 mpg in the city, 25 on the highway and 23 combined tops the competitors by 1 to 6 mpg. However, Toyota recommends premium fuel for best performance while the Ford and Jeep both get full power from regular. That makes them less expensive to run, per EPA calculations.

I drove a well-equipped Land Cruiser over a challenging off-road course a couple of miles from the Mexican border.

Driving impressions

The Land Cruiser is roomy and comfortable. The controls are easy to use. Physical buttons, switches and dials for driving modes, climate control, volume and more are within easy reach on the center console and dash.

The steering was firm and direct. The torquey hybrid powertrain delivered plenty of power for steep grades, piles of rock and soft sand.

A handy electronic control system manages throttle, transmission and braking at selectable trail speeds, freeing the driver to concentrate on obstacles ahead, or when topping a rise, the forward camera’s view of what was on the other side of the hill.

The advanced drivetrain and electronic controls combine to take much of the stress out of even difficult trails.

GR86 Active Safety Suite

On automatic transmission models, GR86 comes standard with a number of intelligent safety features, including Pre-Collision Braking System, Pre-Collision Throttle Management, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lead Vehicle Start Alert, Lane Departure Warning with Sway Warning and Automatic High Beams. GR86 models equipped with automatic transmission also come with Rear Parking Sonar with Reverse Automatic Braking.

Blind Spot Detection and Rear Parking Sonar With Reverse Automatic Braking

The available Blind Spot Detection (BSD) warns you when a vehicle in the next lane enters GR86’s blind spot. And when you’re in reverse, Rear Parking Sonar with Reverse Automatic Braking uses sensors on the rear bumper to detect obstructions behind the vehicle. If detected, the system can alert the driver with warning sounds and automatically apply the brakes to avoid a collision or reduce collision damage.

All-LED Lighting with Available Adaptive Front-Lighting System

Eye-catching headlights on GR86 feature distinctive LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL) to improve visibility and style, as well as an available Adaptive Front-Lighting System (AFS). At night, Adaptive Front-Lighting headlights turn alongside the front wheels, helping you see better around the next corner.

Available Driver Assist Package

GR Supra’s available Driver Assist and Safety and Technology Packages bring added peace of mind to every drive. The Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) system is designed to help alert you to vehicles that may be in the Supra’s blind spot, letting you know when it’s safe to change lanes. When you’re slowly backing out of a driveway or parking spot, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA) provides audible and visual indicators to help warn you of approaching vehicles. And Cruise Control on Manual Transmission models helps keep your GR Supra going at your desired speed, while Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) on Automatic Transmission models helps with highway driving by keeping GR Supra at a preset distance from the vehicle ahead of it, automatically accelerating and braking as needed.

Available Front and Rear Parking Sensors

Tech that helps detect what you might not. When you’re parking, sensors on the front and rear of GR Supra scan for walls, curbs and other objects that might be hidden from your view. Should the system anticipate a collision, it is designed to emit an audible alert, reduce engine output, and automatically apply the brakes. Simulation shown.

Use our personalized guide for step-by-step car seat installation instructions.

Infants and Toddlers: Rear-Facing

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, your child should ride in a rear-facing car seat until they reach the seat’s height or weight limit. Infant-only car seats should always face the rear of the vehicle. Convertible and 3-in-1 car seats, which can face either the rear or the front, typically have height and weight limits for the rear-facing position that are higher than the limits on infant seats.

Toddlers and Preschoolers: Forward-Facing

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, once your child has reached the maximum height or weight limit allowed in the rear-facing position, then he or she can ride in a forward-facing car seat with a five-point harness. Keep your child in this car seat until they reach the maximum height or weight limit allowed by your car seat’s manufacturer in the forward-facing position.

School-Age Children: Booster Seat

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, once your child has reached the maximum height or weight allowed in the forward-facing car seat with harness, transition to a booster seat. Your child should still ride in the rear seat at all times.

Toyota Safety Sense™ 3.0 is standard on select new vehicles.

Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD) is designed to help detect a vehicle, pedestrian, or bicyclist and provide an audio/visual forward-collision warning under certain circumstances. If you don’t react, the system is designed to provide automatic emergency braking.

Intended for highway use, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) is an adaptive cruise control system that is designed to be set at speeds above 20 mph and uses vehicle-to-vehicle distance control to help maintain a preset distance from the vehicle ahead of you.

Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist

When white/yellow lane markings or certain road-edge boundary lines are detected at speeds above 30 mph, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA) is designed to issue an audio/visual lane departure warning if an inadvertent lane departure is detected. If the driver does not take corrective action, the system is also designed to provide gentle corrective steering for lane-keeping assistance.

Lane Tracing Assist

When available Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) is enabled and lane markers are detected, Lane Tracing Assist (LTA) uses the lines on the road and/or preceding vehicles to provide active driving assistance and help keep the vehicle centered in its lane. While LTA is activated, the available Emergency Driving Stop System (EDSS) is designed to monitor the driver's inputs, such as steering operation. If the EDSS determines the driver is not attentive and the driver does not respond to prompts to resume control of the vehicle, it can bring the vehicle to a stop under certain conditions.

Road Sign Assist

Using an intelligent camera, Road Sign Assist (RSA) is designed to detect speed limit signs, stop signs, Do Not Enter signs, yield signs and certain warning signs, and display an icon of the sign on the Multi-Information Display (MID).

Proactive Driving Assist

*not available on all TSS 3.0 vehicles. When system operating conditions are met, using the vehicle’s camera and radar, Proactive Driving Assist (PDA) provides gentle braking into curves or gentle braking and/or steering to help support driving tasks such as distance control between your vehicle and a preceding vehicle, pedestrian or bicyclist.

Automatic High Beams (AHB) are designed to help you see more clearly at night at speeds above 21 mph. The AHB system is designed to detect the headlights of oncoming vehicles and taillights of preceding vehicles, then automatically toggle between high and low beams accordingly.

72 Fun & Unusual Things to Do in Moscow

fun things to do in Moscow

  • 0 Pinterest

Sure, Moscow is the Russian political capital and the nation’s most populous city, but describing it as such couldn’t be any further from the truth. More accurately, Moscow is a city of contrasts.

It exudes history — its Kremlin dates back centuries, nodding to royalty and leadership old and now, while the famed Red Square, the poster child of the city, blends striking color with ancient tradition and religion.

On the other hand, it’s a city of modern pop culture and towering skyscrapers; a place where you’ll come across new-age museums, arts centers, manmade parks, and an efficient transportation system that’s one of the most beautiful in Europe.

It’s a city of longstanding culture — the Bolshoi Theater is an international symbol for excellence in classical dance, while Russia’s National Ballet Company remains renowned worldwide — as well as upbeat nightlife, with some of the world’s most celebrated rooftop bars and nightclubs.

While it’s a city filled with opposites, there remains no shortage of things to do in Moscow for all types of travelers — from those who want cultural immersion to those looking for an epic night out, you’ll be spoiled for choice. And if you’re not sure where to start, here’s a list of suggestions!

The Moscow Kremlin

If there’s any particular district begging to be the first place you visit on your trip, it’s the Kremlin.

Built in the 16th century by Ivan the Terrible, the UNESCO-listed area has since become the heart of Russia’s capital city, where you’ll find several churches, palaces, and other noteworthy buildings.

We’ll dive into each of its main attractions in a second, but regardless of what you visit, try to make it to the Kremlin in time for sunset — because seeing its golden domes glinting in the late-afternoon light makes for one spectacular tourist photo!

1 – Admire the abundance of Kremlin towers | the Kremlin

Kremlin towers, Moscow

As your eyes dart down the towering red-brick Kremlin wall, the first thing you’ll notice is its large towers of all different styles and sizes.

With a whopping 20 separate minarets towering above the historic area, each with its own name, colors, features and history, a guided tour to learn each of their fascinating stories is a must.

To give you a little taste, the Konstantin-Yeleninskaya Tower once housed a torture chamber. Saviour’s Tower at the main entrance boasts a famous chiming clock, the Secret Tower houses a secret escape tunnel, and the Trinity Tower is the tallest of them all.

2 – Visit the enormous Grand Kremlin Palace | the Kremlin

Grand Kremlin Palace, Moscow

A remarkable attraction in terms of both beauty and history, the Grand Kremlin Palace is an ornate rococo-style building that was commissioned during the reign of Nicholas I, and today acts as the official residence of none other than the Russian president, Vladimir Putin.

Perched atop Borovitsky Hill, its 125-meter-long facade is unmissable, making for impressive photos.

Take note: guided tours are few and far between, so you’ll have to book a few weeks in advance if you want to check out the decorated inner sanctum.

3 – People-watch in Cathedral Square | the Kremlin

Cathedral Square, Moscow

One of the most popular areas in all of Moscow (sometimes called Sobornaya Square), with multiple massive churches at its heart, Cathedral Square is flanked by several historic buildings and is never shy of a tourist crowd.

The three main churches — each spectacular works of architecture in their own right — are the Cathedral of the Assumption (the oldest and the biggest of all Kremlin churches), the 16th-century Cathedral of the Archangel Michael (known for its beautiful Corinthian gables and turrets), and the golden-domed Cathedral of the Annunciation (which connects to the Grand Kremlin Palace’s main building).

Throw in the 60-meter-high Ivan the Great Bell Tower, the lesser-known Church of the Twelve Apostles , the Church of the Deposition of the Virgin’s Robe (underrated yet famous for its marvelous stained-glass windows), and the medieval residence-turned-museum that is The Patriarch’s Palace, and you can see why this square is regularly number one on any visitor’s list of things to do in Moscow.

4 – See a show at the State Kremlin Palace | the Kremlin

State Kremlin Palace, Moscow

Just like the Grand Kremlin Palace , this theater and prestigious concert hall — with its grandiose facade and multiple sculptures — is another ornate building that’s worth admiring.

A popular place to hold conferences, the State Kremlin Palace was originally built as part of a larger complex for Communist Party meetings, but today hosts some of the biggest events in Moscow — we’re talkin’ sold-old ballet performances, world-famous concerts, opera shows, and festivals.

Check the website to see what’s on the calendar for your visit!

5 – See centuries worth of national treasures at the Armoury Chamber | the Kremlin

Armoury Chamber, Moscow

For anyone with an interest in historical weaponry and armor, this museum — which dates back to the early 1500s when it was created as the royal armory — is a must-see.

The Armoury Chamber (as well as the Diamond Fund Exhibition) is home to some of the most valuable objects that were originally owned by Russian monarchs — from jeweled heirlooms and intricate boxes to ornately decorated pistols and swords — many of which are centuries old.

Within the armoury chamber, you’ll also find the Russian historical regalia, a collection of artifacts that belonged to Russian tsars and emperors between the 13th and 20th centuries, highlighted by the Ivory Throne and the Monomakh’s Cap.

6 – Step inside the Palace of the Facets | the Kremlin

Palace of the Facets, Moscow

The Palace of the Facets is one of the most underrated buildings in all of Moscow, largely because it’s not as widely promoted or photographed even though its exterior adorns some postcards.

From the outside, it blends in with the crowd. But step inside and you’ll discover a world of beauty and wonder — its frescoes, golden columns and enormous rooms are a sight to behold

The Palace of the Facets is not only a piece of art (literally, with painted walls), dating back over 500 years, but also acted as the dining hall for the Tsars.

7 – Feel small next to the Tsar Bell | the Kremlin

Tsar Bell, Moscow

Making Philadelphia’s famous Liberty Bell look diminutive in size, this monument , which never actually functioned as a bell due to its immense size (at 205 tons and standing 20.1 feet high!), has found fame in recent years for being the heaviest attraction inside The Kremlin.

With the bronze landmark’s claim to fame of being the biggest bell in the world, it presents as a great, quick photo op when roaming through the Kremlin.

8 – Check out the Senate Palace | the Kremlin

Senate Palace, Moscow

Another architectural masterpiece that’s tucked away within the Kremlin, this palace is famous for being one of Moscow’s most beautiful buildings — its yellow façade curves around to face inward and truly engulf anyone who stands near it.

Built back in the late 1700s, today it houses the Russian presidential administration and, unfortunately for us, is off limits to the general public.

Still, admiring it from outside, with the nearby Tsar Cannon, is certainly good enough.

9 – Grab a photo in front of the Tsar Cannon | the Kremlin

Tsar Cannon, Moscow

One of Moscow’s most iconic symbols, Tsar Cannon (or Royal Cannon) is a cannon that was manufactured in 1586 and resides — yep, you guessed it — within The Kremlin.

Following the theme of the enormous Tsar Bell, it weighs a whopping 39 tons — making it one of the world’s largest cannons even though it has never been shot.

And while its size may be impressive on its own, what makes this cannon so special is that it’s adorned with intricate carvings, ornaments, inscriptions, and a figure of a horse-riding Tsar Feodor the Bellringer.

10 – Join a tour of the Terem Palace | the Kremlin

Terem Palace, Moscow

A stunning, fairytale-like palace that’s steeped in history and detail, the five-story Terem Palace is one of the most underrated attractions within The Kremlin. However, as part of the official residence of the Russian President, much of it is off-limits to snap-happy tourists.

That said, there’s still plenty to be seen in the accessible areas by joining a group tour: a beautiful white-stone carved staircase; curved, decorated, and painted ceilings; and an enchanting low-vaulted Antechamber with lancet windows.

The Red Square

As we move away from the Kremlin, our next stop is the most photographed, picturesque public area in the country.

Flanked by gorgeous, colorful towers and buildings, the Red Square is the most famous square in all of Russia — and one that’s steeped in history, patriotism, and communist symbolism.

Home to some of Moscow’s greatest landmarks including St Basil’s Cathedral (featuring its iconic onion domes), Lenin Mausoleum, GUM department store (an architectural masterpiece that is the most famous shopping mall in Russia), The State History Museum, and more, it’s not just a sight to see in Moscow but also one that has been seen by hundreds of millions from around the world.

11 – Make your way inside St. Basil’s Cathedral | Red Square

St. Basil’s Cathedral, Moscow

Built back in the early 1500s, this quirky-looking, 65-meter-tall Orthodox church is so unique and detailed that it’s earned its place as one of 16 UNESCO cultural sites in Russia — and, thanks to many Hollywood productions like Bond: Skyfall (2012), has only continued to increase in fame.

Its exterior boasts multi-colored domes crowned with golden onion top spires. Meanwhile, inside, you’ll find nine small, separate chapels, and plenty of decorated walls and windows — all best viewed as part of a walking tour of Red Square.

12 – Visit the State Historical Museum | Red Square

State Historical Museum, Moscow

One of seven museums that can be found around the expansive Red Square, the State Historical Museum is one of Moscow’s most revered.

Housed in a neoclassical building (the same as GUM), it features more than 4 million items relating to Russian history — making it so vast and incredible that you’ll need at least two hours inside to see just a fraction.

While you’re in the area, be sure to check out the Marshal Georgy Zhukov Monument, a towering horse-riding statue of arguably the most famous and heroic Soviet military commander of WWII, which can be found in front of the museum.

13 – Shop till you drop at GUM | Red Square

GUM department store, Moscow

The official state department store of Russia, having opened in 1893 and become one of Moscow’s most iconic attractions for shopaholics over the years, is known for its gorgeous architecture that looks more like a palace than anything else.

Entering through its massive golden doors, you’ll be surprised to find an extensive shopping center with more than 100 luxury and world-renowned brands of clothing and accessories for men, women, and youngsters.

Even if you don’t plan on buying anything, stop into the Gastronom №1 for a bite to eat or take a stroll through its corridors to appreciate the building’s history and beauty.

14 – Visit Lenin’s Mausoleum | Red Square

Lenin's Mausoleum, Moscow

Another iconic Red Square attraction is Lenin’s Mausoleum, a small yet foreboding building that houses the embalmed corpse of Communist leader Vladimir Lenin (who led Russia through the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917).

Opened in 1930 after his death and standing at more than 12 meters tall, it presents as both a unique and macabre site — and, considering the life-like nature of the body, certainly isn’t for the faint of heart.

Note: Entrance is free of charge, but expect to be searched by security before being allowed in.

15 – Ride the Moscow Metro, enjoying the beautiful stations along the way

Moscow Metro, Russia

As we leave the Red Square, the next cab off the rank is Moscow’s unbelievable artistic Metro network (rivaled only in beauty by that of Stockholm). Constructed between the 1930s and 1950s, its stations were built by hand with a wide range of artistic themes — from socialist realist to Slavic pagan.

Tips: The best way to experience them is as part of a Moscow Metro tour, which can be booked online. However, if you prefer exploring solo, then make sure to visit the Mayakovskaya Metro Station which is known for its seemingly endless archways.

You may also check out Dostoyevskaya, named after a famous writer with murals depicting his stories. The Ploshchad Revolutsii Metro Station is another option where a handful of Socialist statues provide a wonderful contrast to the red marble arches.

A world-renowned performance complex on the picturesque Kosmodamianskaya Embankment, this state-of-the-art venue is best known for hosting Vladimir Spivakov’s Virtuosi of Moscow Chamber Orchestra. It showcases everything from classical concerts to jazz, folk music and more!

The venue’s three magnificent concert halls welcome an array of local and international performers. Check the website to see who’s taking center stage during your visit!

53 – Drift through fresh powder on a snowmobile!

snowmobiling in Moscow

While it’s not always winter (though if you want to make the most of your snowy trip, come between December and March), as soon as that first snowfall hits, it’s time for snowmobile tours. Make for a fantastic way to explore the out-of-the-way locations and magical forests beyond Moscow’s city limits.

Even if you’ve never ridden a ski-doo or snowmobile before, the friendly expert instructors will be with you every step of the way, with safety and enjoyment always priorities.

54 – Crank your head skywards in Moscow City

Moscow International Business Center, Moscow

A stark contrast to the ancient and colorful onion domes in the Red Square, Moscow City’s skyscape (aka the Moscow International Business Center ) is full of towering, modern glass-heavy (even twisting) skyscrapers. Many of which are vying at the top of the list of Europe’s tallest buildings.

At 374 meters tall and with 95 floors — and a wonderful restaurant on its 60th floor — the Moscow Federation Tower is a popular choice for tourists. Meanwhile, the 85th and 86th floor of the OKO Towers play host to a Russian restaurant and skating rink respectively.

Be sure to walk through the modern Bagration Bridge and, for the shopaholics, check out the stores and IMAX theater inside AFIMALL City.

55 – Check out Zaryadye Park

Zaryadye Park, Moscow

Within arm’s reach of the famed Red Square, the peaceful slice of greenery that is Zaryadye Park is a breath of beautiful and natural air amidst the concrete jungle. It’s the first new city park to be opened in Moscow for more than half a century.

At various points around the 10-hectare park, you’ll find a few restaurant pavilions, a media center, a museum and a botanical collection housing over a million plants. It also houses the two-stage Zaryadye Concert Hall where thousands of passersby take a seat on the steps every day.

While you’re there, don’t miss the Chambers of the Romanov Boyars, an unusual museum above the northern side of the park.

56 – Stroll around the cozy Hermitage Garden

Hermitage Garden, Moscow

Small yet incredibly charming and found conveniently smack-bang in the middle of the city, the Hermitage Garden is a perfect spot to relax and unwind after a day of learning about Russia’s vast history.

Surrounded by the Sfera Theatre and The Kolobov Novaya Opera Theatre of Moscow , this lovely, leafy garden can be both a relaxing oasis or the prelude to an entertaining evening out.

57 – Treat yourself to a ballet show at the Bolshoi Theatre

Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow

With a reputation that precedes it, the impressive and world-famous Bolshoi Theatre is a must for any theater lover. Its rich history is making it one of the most iconic theaters in Europe.

While there are several performances to choose from throughout the year — from ballet to opera, classic dramas and even acrobatic shows — you can also get your own private backstage tour.

58 – Get artsy, then party at ArtPlay

ArtPlay, Moscow

This old tea factory turned cultural hub of Moscow’s creative arts is heaven on earth for rotating exhibitions by local artists.

Depending on what piques your interest, you can join in on everything from live music to dance classes, art studio workshops, flea markets and film screenings here. However, after the sun goes down, its alter-ego comes out to play.

So, if you’re feeling peckish, stop into the Domozhilov restaurant nearby for a shashlik. Then wash it down at the English pub with a beer before partying it up at Rodnya, a pumping techno club.

59 – Head to the PANORAMA360 Observation Deck

PANORAMA360 Observation Deck, Moscow

A surefire hit for the social media feed, the observation deck at the top of Moscow’s Federation Tower skyscraper — PANORAMA360 — is a must-see selfie stop for its killer views and … ice cream factory.

From the 89th floor, you can soak in the wonder of Moscow old and new from above. It has floor-to-ceiling windows providing 360-degree vistas, a rotating restaurant and mini-cinema to boot.

60 – Throw down a picnic blanket in Sokolniki Park

Sokolniki Park, Moscow

One of the largest green spaces in Moscow, Sokolniki Park is a very popular gathering place for locals and visitors alike.

Spread across the northeastern Sokolniki District, it’s the perfect distance from the city’s main haunts where the crowds remain small but the accessibility stays high.

With its many activities — from sports to live music to festivals — not much beats this park when it comes to outdoor fun!

61 – Catch a traditional Russian dance show

Russian dance shows in Moscow

To get a true sense of the rich and diverse culture in Moscow, you can’t go past one of its many folk dance shows.

While there are several to choose from, “Kostroma” and “The Golden Ring” are two crowd favorite choices. Each is thoroughly unique with traditional music and costumes sure to make for a once-in-a-lifetime night of entertainment.

Of course, due to high popularity, be sure to book in advance.

62 – Book a table at the White Rabbit restaurant bar

White Rabbit restaurant bar, Moscow

Perched above the historical center of Moscow on the 16th floor of the Smolensky Passage building, this lavish restaurant is a must-visit for any foodie-obsessed traveler. Why? Because it continually ranks as one of the top 50 restaurants in the world.

The drool-worthy menu made by fifth-generation chef Vladimir Mukhin consists of creative, beautiful plated meals. The coveted eaterie also boasts 360-degree panoramic views of the city and a fine collection of wines and cocktails.

63 – Have dinner inside the Vysoko-Petrovskiy Monastery

Vysoko-Petrovskiy Monastery, Moscow

Whether you’re an architecture or history buff, while visiting Moscow, it would be a shame to miss out on the rare chance to eat in an actual monastery.

This one is particularly special as it dates back some 700 years. Not only will you get to dig into an authentic Russian menu, but learn about the history of the building and (depending on your booking package) get a guided tour too.

64 – Pass by the ‘Children Are the Victims of Adult Vices’ sculpture

Children Are the Victims of Adult Vices sculpture, Moscow

This free public art installation in Bolotnaya square was created by Mihail Chemaikin in 2001. A somewhat controversial landmark, it depicts how children are influenced by vices — alcohol, theft, ignorance, violence, addiction, poverty and war, to name a few.

The sculpture’s uniqueness and thought-provoking nature makes it an essential stop on any day of wandering around.

65 – Get wild on a pub crawl!

If you don’t feel like walking, why not join a Soviet minivan crawl instead (where you can drink Soviet champagne onboard!)?

66 – Roll up for the Nikulin Circus!

Nikulin Circus, Moscow

If you haven’t had the chance to see a live circus before — and especially if you’re traveling with kids — why not head over to the Nikulin Circus on Tsvetnoy Boulevard?

It blends traditional Russian acrobatics with modern-day technology, animals, and the classic circular circus stage. This beloved local entertainment is also considered one of the most enjoyable things to do in Moscow!

68 – Explore the wonderful Izmailovo District

Throughout the area, you’ll uncover museums dedicated to vodka, break and Russian folk art. The district’s charming open-air flea market has all kinds of crafts and souvenirs are haggled on the daily.

Don’t miss Izmailovo Park , which is an enormous 300-hectare space that plays host to souvenir vendors, forest walking paths and even an ice rink in winter.

With so much to see in the district, savvy travelers typically opt for a guided tour.

69 – Sip on a cocktail at the award-winning City Space Bar and Lounge

City Space Bar and Lounge, Moscow

Self-dubbed as one of the world’s top 10 bars, with accolades like Luxury Travel Guide’s Bar of the Year 2018, this iconic and luxurious watering hole doesn’t need much of an introduction.

Perched sky-high on the 34th floor of Swissotel Krasnye Holmy, the circular lounge bar slings signature cocktails and dishes up truly stunning views of the city.

Hot tip: While there’s never a poor time to visit, aim to arrive an hour or so before sunset, that’s when the city will truly sparkle below.

70 – Pamper yourself at the Sanduny Baths

Adaptive Cruise Control distance

When setting the distance between vehicles you have a choice of 3 settings 1, 2 or 3 bars. I usually follow as close (one bar) as I can. My question is does this distance (one bar) vary with speed? It seems one bar at 75mph is a bigger distance than one bar at 55mph.

Yes but I'm not even going to ask why you are so close to others at 1 bar.

You can always gas to get a bit closer if you see someone trying to sneak in, then back off a bit to show the weiner you aren't letting him in. The adaptive cruise will stays on until you touch the brake.

The set gap for adaptive cruse is based on speed, but more so the bar(s) represents stopping distance. The faster you are, the greater the gap and visa versa. That would be why no manufacturer would ever allow you to get "even closer" with a preset setting.

I retired in early 2022 and live in rural northern California with mostly 2-lane country roads. I use my adaptive cruise maybe once a year just to make sure it is still working (no real need for it since I rarely get on the freeway). SO, so glad to not be commuting anymore... Dan

I can't stand to use ACC except under very specific circumstances. I also hate that everyone else seems to use it all the time. I believe this is the reason there are so many examples of a long line of cars in the left lane taking FOREVER to pass a vehicle in the right lane. However, this does allow me to pass the line on the right and comfortbly get in the left before the slow car in the right lane.
