During the rainy period, the monsoon washes away many roads in game parks and rural areas.  During the winter, Kashmir (30-45 F/0-7 C) and Ladakh are one of the coldest inhabited regions on Earth.

International Direct Dialing (IDD) service is provided at all hotels featured on our India tours. GSM and CDMA mobile phones are widely used in India, whereas SIM card is rarely sold for public. You may also check with your mobile service provider if an international plan may be available.

Internet Access will be available at all hotels  included in your India vacation package, though fees may apply. Internet kiosks are available everywhere, and the charge is very low. However, wifi hotspots in India is limited, only paid wifi can be found in airport and major stations.

Mobile Apps such as WhatsApp, Skype and Facebook Messenger provide free/cheap and convenient ways to stay connected.

The units of Indian currency are the rupee and the paisa (100 paisa is equal to one rupee). The current exchange rate is approximately Rs45 to $1. The currency is listed at US$1 to approx. 75INR (July 2013)

International airports have currency-exchange booths that are always open for arriving or departing overseas flights. It is a good idea to change certain amount of money in small denominations. Always change money from an authorized money-changer and do not forget to take the encashment slip. Some banks now charge a nominal fee for this slip, which is necessary for paying hotel bills or travel expenses in rupees. The encashment slip is also required when reconverting rupees into another currency.

ATMs are available in tourist cities in India, though transaction fees can be high depending on the ATM/bank. Credit cards are widely accepted.

Visitors are generally required to make an oral baggage declaration in respect of baggage and foreign currency in their possession. They are also required to obtain the Currency Declaration Form from the Customs. They should fill in the Disembarkation Card handed over to them by the airline during the course of the flight.

Voltage in India is 220 volts, though electrical converters are usually not needed for portable electronic devices such as phones, cameras, tablets, laptop computers, etc. However, electrical adapter that can change the shape of the plug prongs may be necessary.

Nearly all hotels featured in your India tour package  provide hair dryers and other amenities expected in an international standard 4 or 5-star hotel.

Tap water is NOT potable in India. Only drink purified bottle water. Bring water with you at all times. Eat only thoroughly cooked meat. Avoid pork products, fried food from street vendors and dishes using excessive oil.

No inoculations or vaccinations are required unless coming from or passing through an infected area. originate or are transiting through Yellow Fever endemic countries. Otherwise, foreign tourists should carry their Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate conforming to International Health Regulation.

Health risks include Cholera, dengue fever, dysentery, hepatitis, malaria, meningitis (trekking areas only) and typhoid. Travelers with respiratory ailments may wish to take precautionary measures. As a precautionary measure vaccinations against Hepatitis A and B re recommended, if staying for a longer duration. To avoid Malaria, Dengue, carrying mosquito repellents, nets, clothes covering the body and using sprays against insects in rooms is sufficient.  Drinking only mineral or boiled water curbs down the chances of stomach ailments, thus whenever going out carrying a bottle always comes handy. This will also keep dehydration at bay.

It is strongly advisable to bring indigestion remedies on your trip as it may take some time for your body to adjust to the foods and water otherwise not used to.

For additional precautionary measures and most up-to-date information, please visit the U.S. Centers for Disease Control website .

Tipping is important. The Indian concept of  baksheesh  includes tipping, but is broader: In India you’ll be expected to pay small amounts in order to get things done, as well as to reward for jobs already accomplished.

In tourist restaurants or hotels a 10% service charge is often added to bills. In smaller places, where tipping is optional, you need only tip a few rupees, not a percentage of your bill.

Waiters, room service boys, housekeepers, porters, and doormen all expect to be tipped. Railroad porters should be paid Rs. 5 – Rs. 10 per bag, depending on the weight. Set the rate before you let him take your bags. Taxi drivers don’t expect tips unless they go through a great deal of trouble to get to your destination.

For your transfers and sightseeing included in your India tour package itinerary, we recommend tipping between $10-$12 per person per full day of service. This amount is to be split between the guide and driver at a 2:1 ration. You may, of course, adjust this amount up or down depending on the level of service you received.

Private airport transfers and sightseeing are included in all of our India tour packages. Taxis are available from major hotels and the use of mass public transportation is NOT recommended.

While the transportation network is extensive, traveling in India can be quite challenging. Infrastructure can be poor and conveyances are almost always crowded.

Valid Passport. Your E-Visa. Copies of Your Airline Tickets. Mosquitoes repellent. Your Medicines. Medications for diarrhea and other digestive system ailments. Departure documents.Camera(s) & portable electronic devices. Sunscreen.  Pocket size Kleenex. Folding Umbrella.  Comfortable walking shoes.

Voltage in Nepal is 220 volts, though electrical converters are usually not needed for portable electronic devices such as phones, cameras, tablets, laptop computers, etc. However, electrical adapter that can change the shape of the plug prongs may be necessary.

Nearly all hotels (except in specialty lodging such as adventure lodges, etc.) featured in your Nepal tour package  provide hair dryers and other amenities expected in an international standard 4 or 5-star hotel.

The number one rule is not to drink tap water or other water from open sources. Reputable brands of bottled water or soft drinks are available.

Stomach upsets are the most likely travel health problem but the majority of these cases are minor problems. Thoroughly cooked food is the safest but not if it has been left to cool. One should be careful about what one eats and drinks.

Do not drink unpasteurized milk. Boiled milk is fine if it is kept hygienically and yogurt is usually good. Tea or coffee should also be all right since the water would have been boiled. Salads and fruit should be washed with purified water or peeled where possible. Food, drink and snack from reputable sources are usually safe. However beware of food that has been kept out in the open for long.

Visitors do not need any particular immunization for visit except if arriving from an infected area . Vaccinations for cholera, meningitis, tetanus and diphtheria, typhoid and gamma globulin should, however, be considered. It may be a good idea to get a complete check-up before departure.

Medical facilities in Kathmandu Valley are sound. All kinds of medicines, including those imported from overseas are available in Kathmandu. Kathmandu Valley also offers the services of major general hospitals and private clinics. Health posts have been set up by the government in different parts of rural Nepal. However, facilities are not on par with those found in Kathmandu Valley.

A travel insurance policy that covers theft, loss and medical treatment is recommended. Make sure the insurance also covers the activities that you will be undertaking during your stay in Nepal such as trekking, rafting.

For additional precautionary measures and most up-to-date information, please visit the U.S. Centers for Disease Control website .

Tipping is a newly accepted custom in Nepal. Hotel, restaurant, touring and trekking organization staff members often make up for relatively meager wages with tips. But, it should only reward good work. Don’t tip for short taxi rides in town or any service person you’ve bargain with. Groups might give a reasonable amount per day to a tip pool to be divided among the staff, generally relative to rank, for good service.

For your transfers and sightseeing included in your Nepal tour package itinerary, we recommend tipping between $10-$12 per person per full day of service. This amount is to be split between the guide and driver at a 2:1 ration. You may, of course, adjust this amount up or down depending on the level of service you received.

All ground transportation, airport transfers and sightseeing, will be provided via private car and guide. If you wish to explore on your own, we recommend metered taxis that can be hailed off the streets and are easily recognizable by the taxi sign and their black number plates. Night taxis are available for higher prices. Three wheeler scooters that are cheaper than taxis are also available. For cheaper rides buses and teeny vans called micro buses are available to different parts of the Valley.

Valid Passport. Copies of Your Airline Tickets. Mosquitoes repellent. Your Medicines. Medications for diarrhea and other digestive system ailments. Departure documents.Camera(s) & portable electronic devices. Sunscreen.  Pocket size Kleenex. Folding Umbrella.  Comfortable walking shoes.

On Domestic flights, passengers are allowed 44 pounds and 68 pounds of luggage per person for economic and business class respectively. On International flights, passengers are allowed two pieces of checked luggage. Excess luggage fees will be charged if you check more than the stated allowances, and these charges are your responsibility.  At most major airports, baggage carts are available for your luggage, usually for a small fee.

Bhutan’s climate ranges from tropical in the south, to temperate in the center of the country, to cold in the north…and like much of your adventure in the Himalayas it will be quite unpredictable. The weather can vary dramatically from place to place, from day to day or within the same day. In the Thimphu and Paro valleys, the winter daytime temperature averages 60 degrees Fahrenheit during clear winter days but drops well below freezing during the night. Mid December to early January can be a beautifully clear and dry time in Western Bhutan. Late December through mid February is the period of heaviest snow fall in the higher elevations.

The fluctuations are not quite so great during the summer and daytime temperature often rises to the mid-eighties Fahrenheit. Punakha and the central valleys are lower than their Western neighbors and tend to always be a few degrees warmer. The higher peaks will be snow-covered all year. The higher passes, particularly Thrumshing La, between Bumthang and Mongar, can be treacherous during the winter as snow falls frequently and ices up the road. Light snow will often dust Thimphu and Paro in winter, and occasionally there will be heavy snowstorms despite their location in the Central Himalayas.

The Summer monsoon from the Bay of Bengal affects Bhutan from late May to late September. Views over the Himalayas from the higher passes are usually obscured from June to August. There are notable advantages to visiting Bhutan during the wet season including the spectacular rhododendron blossom from March through May and the deep green valleys. Many species of wild orchids are in full bloom during late summer season (August).

The Spring season in Bhutan can only be compared to a master artist’s palette, truly a spectacular time. The autumn season, late September through November, is usually very mild and clear. The Fall colors surround and embrace your senses. The sky is usually at it’s clearest, affording magnificent views of the Himalaya range. The Spring and Fall seasons are traditionally the most popular times to visit the Kingdom.

Bhutan’s changeable climate means you have to bring an assortment of clothes, including rain gear. A layered wardrobe makes the most sense. Good walking shoes or hiking boots are essential even if you are not hiking. Because of the altitude, a hat or cap and a good pair of sunglasses are essential. Warm clothes are recommended for the evening. Because of the long distances between towns an villages bring the medicines you’ll need along with some first-aid supplies.

Telephones & fax facilities are available in major hotels but charges can be quite expensive. You can send or receive mail but it takes approximately 10 to 14 days to receive mail from anywhere in USA or Europe.

Most hotels in your Bhutan tour package have some basic internet/email service, although connectivity may be limited.

Bhutanese currency is the ngultrum (nu). The approximate exchange rate is 75.00 nu for one US dollar. The Ngultrum is on par with the Indian Rupee (both the Nu and Indian Rupee can be used in Bhutan). US Dollars and other world currencies can be exchanged at banks in the larger towns (hours 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, Mon to Fri) and at the larger hotels. In the capital town of Thimphu some of the smaller bank branches are open Saturday and Sunday for currency exchange. Rural towns and villages may accept only Ngultrum or rupees.

Credit cards are not accepted in almost all shops in Bhutan. There are money exchange counters at the airport, major hotels, and the banks. Some ATMs are available in larger tourist cities such as Thimpu and Paro.

The Bhutanese authorities strictly monitor the export of any religious antiquities or antiques of any kind from the Kingdom (100 years or older). Visitors are advised to be cautious in purchasing old and used items. Custom authorities will not allow items to be taken out of the country if they have not been officially certified as non-antique. Personal videos, cameras, personal computers, portable telephones or any other electronic device should be registered with the customs authorities on arrival at Paro and will be checked by the same on departure. Upon arrival you will be issued a “customs form” this form must be filled out, with declarations, and returned to authorities before leaving the kingdom. Import of plants, soils, etc., are subject to quarantine regulations. These items must be declared on arrival.

Tap water is NOT potable in Bhutan. Only drink purified bottled water. Bring water with you at all times, especially when trekking.

All meals (beverages are on your own expense) are included our Bhutan vacation packages. Unlike most countries in Asia, Bhutan is not known for its cuisine. As a Buddhist country, most local Bhutanese do not eat meat or fish so nearly all foods besides vegetables are imported from elsewhere. Outside of luxury hotel, Bhutanese food tend to be simple and not very plentiful – so it’s important for travelers to set the proper expectation when it comes to meals.

No inoculations or vaccinations are required unless coming from or passing through an infected area. Travelers should bring sufficient medication with them if required and should check for updated health recommendations before your departure to Bhutan regarding hepatitis, malaria, typhoid, etc.  However, there is sufficient clinics and hospitals for medical services, indigenous medical facilities is available for all district capitals.

Tipping in restaurants is seldom practiced. For your transfers and sightseeing included in your Bhutan vacation itinerary, we recommend tipping between $12-$15 per person per full day of service. This amount is to be split between the guide and driver at a 2:1 ration. You may, of course, adjust this amount up or down depending on the level of service you received.

All ground transportation, airport transfers and sightseeing, will be provided via private car and guide as part of your Bhutan tour package. Taxis are available from major hotels and the use of mass public transportation is not recommended.

Mode of transportation within Bhutan is by motor vehicles only. There are no domestic airlines or trains. The main two lane highway runs from west to east connecting all the major towns and villages. The mountainous terrain and winding roads restrict the average speed of vehicles to less than 40 km/hr. During monsoon and winter months, weather can disrupt travel and unexpected changes might occur in itineraries. Every effort will be made to stay as close to original travel itinerary as possible. For visitors wishing to enter Bhutan by road, the only land entry point is through the southern boarder town of Phuentsholing, bordering West Bengal India. All visa and custom regulations apply.

Shishir Banjara

Dive into a journey that transcends borders and immerses you in a tapestry of cultures, landscapes, and tales as old as time. Welcome to the Multiple Countries Tour, an expedition meticulously curated by Luxury Holidays Nepal, that beckons travelers to three of Asia's most enchanting destinations: Nepal, Bhutan, and India. Each country offers its own unique symphony of experiences. From the snow-capped serenity of Nepal's Himalayan peaks, the mystical monasteries of Bhutan's hidden valleys, to the vibrant mosaic of India's heritage and traditions, this tour promises an odyssey of discovery. Whether you're a seasoned traveler seeking a fresh perspective or an explorer setting out for the first time, embark with us on a journey that promises not just sights and sounds, but soulful encounters and memories that will linger long after the journey ends.

Nepal: The Land of Himalayan Majesty

Nestled amidst the mighty peaks of the Himalayas, Nepal stands as a testament to nature's grandeur and human perseverance. A land where mountains touch the skies, rivers carve valleys, and ancient temples dot the landscapes, Nepal beckons travelers with promises of adventure, spirituality, and cultural enlightenment.

The Himalayan Tapestry: The nation is synonymous with the Himalayas, the world's tallest mountain range. Mount Everest, or 'Sagarmatha' as locals call it, crowns Nepal and has lured mountaineers and adventure enthusiasts for decades. But it's not just about Everest; peaks like Annapurna, Manaslu, and Lhotse offer equally enthralling trekking experiences. Each trail winds through picturesque villages, verdant forests, and past glacial lakes, providing travelers with both challenges and panoramas that are nothing short of poetic.

Best time of year to take the Nepal, Bhutan and India Tour

  • Autumn (September to November): Clear skies provide spectacular views of the Himalayas. It's the most popular trekking season and is ideal for most outdoor activities.
  • Spring (March to May): This is the second-most popular trekking season with rhododendrons in full bloom, especially in higher altitudes, making the landscapes colorful and vibrant.

Autumn (September to November): Just like Nepal, autumn is clear and crisp, offering unobstructed mountain views. It's also the time for some of Bhutan's famous festivals like Thimphu Tshechu.

Spring (March to May): The valleys come alive with flowers in bloom. The temperature is warmer and festivals like Paro Tshechu occur during this time.

Winter (October to March): This is the best time for most of the country. Northern India can be quite cold in December and January, but it's also the time to experience the desert festivals in Rajasthan or explore the plains. The southern parts and coastal regions remain warm and pleasant.

Note on North India: If you're planning to visit the northern regions like Leh-Ladakh, the travel window is limited to summer (May to September) due to heavy snowfall in winter.

Note on South India: South India, especially coastal regions like Kerala and Goa, remain warm throughout the year. However, monsoon (June to September) brings heavy rainfall, which might not be ideal for all tourists but offers a unique beauty.

General Tips:

Avoiding Monsoon: Both Nepal and parts of India experience heavy monsoons between June and September. This is not the ideal time for sightseeing, trekking, or wildlife safaris due to rain, mud, and potential landslides. However, Bhutan's monsoon is lighter and less disruptive.

Festival Seasons: Both Nepal and Bhutan have numerous festivals that are worth experiencing. Check the festival calendar when planning.

Peak Seasons: Keep in mind that autumn and spring are peak tourist seasons in Nepal and Bhutan. If you're looking for solitude or prefer off-peak travel, consider other months but be prepared for potential weather inconveniences.

With careful planning, the Nepal, Bhutan, and India tours can offer a diverse range of experiences in terms of culture, nature, and spirituality.

  • Plan an Awesome Trip to India, Bhutan and Nepal (6 Tips)

India, Bhutan, and Nepal are located in the south of Asia. Because of their geographic proximity , they are usually visited together in one trip.

These three countries have many things in common such as being full of Hindu and Buddhist relics, but still are distinct to provide you a colorful travel feast of three courses.

  • Incredible India : diversity of religions, caste system influence, unique heritage sites like the Taj Mahal, wildlife, a museum of royal palaces...
  • Adventurous Nepal : religious Kathmandu Valley, wonderful mountain trekking/biking routes, great views of Mt. Everest...
  • Holy Bhutan : incredible religious sites, seclusion — even without traffic lights, prioritizing Gross National Happiness instead of GDP, charming trekking paths...

Take your time on a private journey to uncover the secrets of the Indian subcontinent.

  • Is it safe to visit?

1. How to organize an itinerary to India, Bhutan, and Nepal?

How many days to stay: 2–3 weeks.

To get the essence of each destination without wearing yourself out, usually it takes 7–10 days in India , 4–7 days in Nepal , and 4–7 days in Bhutan .

A classic itinerary covering the main areas lasts around 2 weeks. A longer holiday time usually leads to a more leisurely travel pace and a deeper exploration.

For a holiday around 10–12 days , just India-Nepal or India-Bhutan are suggested .

Important note : To promote travel of "High Value Low Volume", independent travel or semi-independent travel is not permitted in Bhutan. All tours and activities must be organized by a travel agency.

A Typical South Asia Tour Itinerary: 14 Days

  • Day 1 - 6: Arrive in Delhi, explore Delhi, Agra ((Taj Mahal)) and Jaipur (Pink City)
  • Day 7 - 8: Flight from Delhi to Kathmandu, explore Kathmandu Valley
  • Day 9 - 13: Flight from Kathmandu to Paro, explore Thimphu, Punakha and Paro
  • Day 14: Depart Bhutan from Paro International Airport

Where to Start the Tour: Usually from Delhi in India

Out of the three countries, India is easily the most well-connected to North America, Europe, and other parts of the world, and it is the most convenient to fly to.

It is usually more convenient and affordable to start your journey from Delhi in India . There are direct flights to Delhi from New York, Chicago, and San Francisco in the U.S., from London and Paris in Europe, and from Sydney in Australia. Flights from the U.S. will take around 14 to 17 hours and flights from Europe will take around 8. Contact us for advice on the best possible flight route from your city.

From Delhi , it takes about 1½ hours to reach Kathmandu in Nepal . Tribhuvan International Airport (IATA: KTM) in Kathmandu is the only international airport in Nepal.

From Kathmandu , it takes less than 1½ hours to reach Paro in Bhutan . Paro International Airport (IATA: PBH) is the only international airport in Bhutan. This air route is only operated by Drukair (Royal Bhutan Airlines) and Bhutan Airlines .

After finishing your travel in Bhutan, you can exit via Paro International Airport. From Paro there are flights to Bangkok, Singapore, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, etc.

Flying from India to Bhutan and then finishing the tour in Kathmandu in Nepal is also reasonable or better . Kathmandu provides more international flights connections than Paro.

Possible Nepal extension : Kathmandu borders Tibet in China. You could extend your trip by 4–8 days by land or by flight to discover Tibet's culture and landscapes if you have a long holiday.

2. How much does an India, Nepal, and Bhutan tour cost?

A typical private 14-Day India, Nepal, and Bhutan Tour costs around US$4,500–4,900 per person based on 4-star hotels for a group of 2 people.

Special arrangements or experiences will make the price higher . For example, a special romantic dinner in a heritage palace hotel, a memorable overnight cruise in the backwaters of south India, an amazing helicopter journey over Mount Everest in Nepal, etc.

Tour Costs in India and Nepal

Traveling in India and Nepal costs a little less than in other Asian countries . For example, a classic private 11-day India and Nepal Tour costs around US$2,400 ( around US$220 per day ) per person based on 4-star accommodation, including domestic flights and flights between India and Nepal.

Tour Costs in Bhutan

The costs for domestic travel in Bhutan are determined by Tourism Council of Bhutan instead of by travel agencies. The costs differ according to hotel ratings, group sizes, and peak/off season. For example, it costs US$230–280 per person per day based on 3-star hotels for a group of 2 people. The meals, the hotels, the entrance fees, the driver, and the guide are compulsory inclusions in the package .

The flight costs to and from Bhutan are usually higher than for most air routes in Asia because of limited airline competition (only Drukair and Bhutan Airlines ). For example, it costs around US$350 each way per person between Delhi (India) and Paro (Bhutan) or between Kathmandu (Nepal) and Paro (Bhutan), US$100–200 higher than a comparable flight between Thailand and Vietnam.

3. What is the best time to visit India, Bhutan, and Nepal?

Through all these three countries:

  • Best months for weather (cool/warm and dry), but most expensive : March, September to November
  • Good months for weather (dry and hot) with better deals : April, May
  • Rainy season (not good for trekking), but with good prices : June to August
  • Cold weather (not good for trekking) but good for ordinary visiting : December to February

Generally, India, Bhutan and Nepal can be visited year-round. But if you're keen on trekking, for which Bhutan, Nepal, and north India are paradises, it is better avoid the rainy season (June to August) and the snowy season (December to February).

India Weather

October to February is when temperatures in India are the most comfortable.

It is still possible to visit India in the spring from March to May , although it is the hot season. During the hot season, temperatures can reach up to 40°C (104°F), but the heat can be avoided by arranging tours in the early morning or evening.

India's monsoon season is from June to August . The northmost areas of the country like the Golden Triangle (Delhi, Agra and Jaipur) and Himalayan regions don't get as much rain as the center and south, but the rains can disrupt flights and delay travel plans. >>> Best (and Worst) Times to Visit India, Best Places to Go in Each Month

Nepal Weather

The spring (from late February to April ) and the autumn (from September to November ) have the best and driest weather in the country.

It is also possible to visit Nepal in the winter ( December to February ), although temperatures are too cold for trekking.

It's best to avoid June to August if trekking is one of your big interests because of monsoon rains.

Bhutan Weather

The climate in Bhutan is similar to that in Nepal .

The country experiences its best weather from March to May and from September to November.

Bhutan experiences its monsoon season from June to August.

4. What are the top places to visit in India, Bhutan, and Nepal?

Travel highlights in india.

  • Delhi : the first impression of India, see a world of difference between Old Delhi and New Delhi
  • Agra : The Taj Mahal
  • Jaipur : The Pink City, various magnificent palaces

For the first-time visitors, the golden triangle route (Delhi-Agra-Jaipur) cannot be missed.

You can land in India's grand capital of Delhi for a representative first impression of India by visiting India's largest mosque and taking a rickshaw ride through the narrow lanes of Old Delhi's bustling bazaar.

After Delhi, journey to the Mughal city of Agra , which is home to the magnificent Taj Mahal. Admiring this love-inspired monument at sunrise time before large tourist groups flood in is marvelous.

Basking in the fascinating colors of the 'Pink City' of Jaipur and staying overnight in a graceful heritage palace hotel will never disappoint you.

For a deeper exploration, extending your tour by 2 days to Varanasi (the spiritual capital of India) or 5–7 days in Rajasthan (for magnificent palaces and striking desert scenery) is worthy of your time.

Travel Highlights in Bhutan

  • Paro : Taktshang Goemba Hike (also called Tiger's Nest Monastery)
  • Thimphu : a secret place hidden in the Himalayas, it holds the offices of the royals
  • Punakha : former capital of Bhutan, getaway for most mountain hiking routes

Most people visiting Bhutan will explore Thimphu, Punakha, and Paro.

Paro , where the famous Tiger's Nest Monastery is located, is a small and quaint city full of sacred sites and historical buildings. Taking a 5-hour trek to Tiger's Nest Monastery is rewarding for its holy atmosphere and breathtaking panoramic views. It is visited by all Bhutanese at least once in their lifetime.

Thimphu , the capital, is the largest city in Bhutan. It is famous as it has both modern technology and ancient customs. Thimphu is a great starting point when visiting Bhutan as there you can access an ATM to stock up on currency and also explore some of the city's religious and cultural sites.

Punakha , the former capital of Bhutan, will provide you with incredible views of the Himalayas and an abundance of religious sites.

Travel Highlights in Nepal

  • Kathmandu Valley : Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Patan, Nepal's cultural center
  • Nagarko t: a panoramic Himalayan view including Mount Everest
  • Pokhara : adventure (trekking, boating, mountain biking, etc.)

In Nepal, the best place to visit is Kathmandu Valley , which mainly covers three areas, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Patan. They are around 30 minutes' driving from each other.

Kathmandu Valley is Nepal's heart. It holds the best of Nepali cultural treasures — splendid temple architecture, magnificent royal palaces, and holy pilgrimage sites. Kathmandu has some of Nepal's most beautiful temples including Swayambhunath and Pashupatinath.

Kathmandu is also the starting point for the famous 1-hour Mount Everest Flight for admiring the south side of Mountain Everest and other peaks like Shisha Pangma. Definitely a flight of a lifetime opportunity!

To enjoy a panoramic Himalayan view including Mount Everest when the sun rises, an overnight stay in Nagarkot should be on your list. The best time for a breathtaking view is the dry season — from mid-October to early April. It is about 1 hour by car from Kathmandu.

If you're keen on adventure (trekking, boating, mountain biking, etc.), Pokhara , located near the Annapurna mountain chain, could be an ideal place for you. It is around 30 minutes by flight or 5½ hours by car from Kathmandu.

5. Do I need visas to enter India, Nepal and Bhutan?

Travelers from most countries require a visa to explore the beauty of these three nations.

If you're from Europe, America or Oceania , the most convenient ways are :

  • India : e-tourist visa
  • Nepal : tourist visa on arrival
  • Bhutan : visas are only available through a travel agency

India Tourist E-Visas

Visa applications must be made online at the government's official website , no less than four days and no more than 30 days before the date of travel (for a one-month double entry visa).

The e-visa application process has five main steps :

  • Fill out the e-Visa application form online, upload your passport photo, and a PDF of your passport ID page.
  • Use a credit card or debit card (both charge 2.5% of the e-Visa fee), or pay via PayPal (charges 3.5% of the applicable e-Visa fee), to pay the e-Visa processing fee online. The cost is around US$25, US$40 or US$80, depending your nationality, plus a bank fee.
  • Receive an Application ID and Electronic Travel Authorization via e-mail within 3 to 5 working days.
  • Use your Application ID and passport number to check your visa status . Make sure it shows "Granted" before your travel.
  • Print your Electronic Travel Authorization before flying to India and present it at the Immigration Check Post to receive an e-Visa stamp on your passport.

Nepal's Tourist Visa on Arrival

It is offered at the Kathmandu airport.

There are three steps to get the visa :

  • Fill in an arrival card at the airport. You can also fill out a short form online to make your visa processing at the airport even faster. Filling out the form online, you must enter within 15 days from the date the receipt is issued.
  • Make the payment: The cost is around US$30, US$50, or US$125 for a duration of 15 days, 30 days, or 90 days respectively. Cash is the only payment method accepted and USD is preferred. ATMs and a currency exchange facility are available nearby if your currency is not accepted.
  • Get your visa: provide all the documents including the arrival card, passport-sized photo, passport, and payment receipt. You will get your visa shortly afterward.

Bhutan Visas

Unlike most countries in the world, a Bhutan visa is not granted by consulates or embassies. It is issued by the immigration department in Thimphu.

Tell your 1:1 travel advisor all of your Bhutan ideas/needs , confirm your booking, and leave all the rest, including visas, to be taken care of by us.

A Bhutan visa usually costs US$40 per person and is not refundable.

Your travel advisor will email you a visa clearance letter issued by the Tourism Council of Bhutan, which must be presented at the immigration desk upon arrival at the airport. The official visa is then stamped on your passport.

6. Is it safe to visit India, Nepal, and Bhutan?

Traveling in South Asia , especially with a guide in a private car , is quite safe . However, make sure to pay attention to the following safety measures while you are traveling to make sure that your trip goes as smoothly as possible.

The biggest complaint that travelers have in India is being stared at . This may be uncomfortable for you but often happens out of sheer curiosity. To minimize staring, you're suggested dressing conservatively especially when visiting crowded areas or famous monuments.

Poverty and beggars are both common in India. You might need to be prepared to see more poverty than you're used to. It is not recommended to give money to beggars as begging has become a lucrative industry in India and it is best not to encourage it.

Nepal is an extremely poor country and often struggles with basic necessities. It is normal for the country to experience power outages and you might encounter this when visiting there. Along with this, Nepal also has spotty and slow internet access .

It is extremely important to be careful when trekking in Nepal . Only go trekking with a knowledgeable guide, who knows the signs of altitude sickness well. Tell your guide if you are feeling dizzy or short of breath.

Smoking tobacco is prohibited in Bhutan and cigarettes are often not allowed in public places. If you are a smoker, you will need to ask your guide where you can legally smoke on your tour.

For any other information not mentioned above, feel free to contact us to ask about it.

Most Common Questions about India Nepal Tibet Bhutan Tour

1. is it safe to visit india.

Firstly, we need to put any preconception or the exaggerated photos and remarks one may see online aside. Objectively, India is a tourist-friendly and safe country to visit. Tourists of all religions and ages will be treated equally with the due respect. However, there are certain rules to follow as you travel elsewhere in the world, for example, for travelers, esp. ladies do not travel in the deserted street in the night.

Besides, you have to drink bottled mineral water instead of tap water; never flash your money or display your wealth at busy street or railway station; keep your previous belongings attended all the time; and listen attentively to dos and don’ts reminded by your Indian guide. Be open-minded to local customs and respect unique religious practices and locals with different backgrounds, you will be surprised to find that the seemingly chaotic India has some of the warmest, friendliest people you have ever met.

2. How to Avoid Mountain Sickness in Tibet?

Firstly and foremost, all of the itineraries we offer are expertly-designed, given the consideration for our clients’ stamina and acclimatization to the altitude ascent. For the first part of the journey in India and Nepal, there is no need to worry about altitude sickness. After you fly from Kathmandu (1400m) to Lhasa (3656m), you will spend two days touring landmark attractions in Lhasa city and adapting to Tibetan Plateau.

For the newly-arrived tourists in Lhasa, do remember not to rush to visit attractions. The key to avoid acute mountain sickness is do not ascend abruptly. It’s advisable to have a good sleep at hotel. Never exert yourself doing things like jumping, running, or having shower for the first day or your arrival. Admittedly, everyone will physically respond to subtle altitude change. Things like slight headache, fast pulse and dizziness, etc. are petty common and vary from person to person. Normally, your discomfort will disappear after staying a couple of days in Lhasa.

Our seasoned Tibetan guides will closely follow your health throughout your stay in Tibet. In EBC and during your trek around Mt. Kailash, we have Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber prepared for you for emergency. 24/7 call service and back-up plan are readily available.

3. What Travel Documents Are Needed for India Nepal Tibet Bhutan Tour?

A number of travel documents are need for such long tour. And our travel consultants will offer professional advice and help for you. For visiting India, you can either apply for Regular Tourist Visa or E-visa . For better efficiency, you can make your E-visa application online in advance and print it out the colored E-visa before entering India.

To visit Tibet and Bhutan, you can only get your visa via a pre-arranged tour with a travel agency. To enter Tibet from Nepal, you need to get Tibet Travel Permit and China Group Visa . Remember to set aside at least 3 days in Kathmandu to process Group Visa. Our Nepali staff will help you get it. Since you can’t fly directly from Lhasa to Paro, you need to get back from Tibet to Kathmandu to fly there to Paro, Bhutan. Our travel consultants will manage to handle your Bhutan Visa .

*To get all the tourist visa, your passport needs to be valid for at least six months and has enough blank pages and additional photos of yourself, visa fee, etc. are also required.

4. When is the Best Time to Visit India Nepal Tibet and Bhutan?

First, start with India, generally speaking, Oct to March is the perfect months to major tourist cities in northern and central India. Complete free of heavy rainfall, the temperature is mild and moderate during these particular time. Your visit to historic UNESCO heritage sites like the Taj Mahal, etc. won’t be interfered with dense fog.

While, considering the weather, Nepal, Tibet, and Bhutan, the 3 Himalayan kingdoms, share pretty much the same climate in Everest Region, though there are variations in some parts of it. Basically, the spring (March to May) and autumn (Sept. to Oct) would be the best season for touring Nepal, Tibet and Bhutan. However, since Tibet is not available for international tourists in March, you’d better to time your visit from mid-April to early June and Sept. to early Nov .

You will enjoy the rarely seen Himalayan flora like Rhododendron in spring and warm temperature (around 20 Celsius) and clear blue sky for mind-blowing vista of Mt. Everest and other top peaks along Himalayan range. Also suitable for trekking, cycling and all kinds of outdoor sports. While the monsoon season with sporadic downpour and dense clouds usually start from mid-June to early Sept.
