This Easy-to-use Online Tool Can Help You Seriously Save on Flights

Introducing TravelArrow, a Google Chrome extension that can help you save on airfare.

This money-saving tip on airfare may as well be an early present to travelers ahead of the holiday season.

TravelArrow, a Google Chrome extension, is an easy-to-use tool that allows travelers to convert their Google Flights search onto Skyscanner, Kayak, and Expedia to help find the cheapest flight options across the internet. But here's the real differentiator — it converts flight searches onto Southwest Airlines too, which is the only airline that doesn't display fares on third-party websites.

"My goal with TravelArrow was to help as many people as I could to utilize these savings hacks and access incredible deals," TravelArrow' cofounder, Jaideep Patil, shared with  Travel + Leisure . "I'm building TravelArrow to be the all-in-one solution for unlocking better flight and hotel deals."

Patil started his TravelArrow journey as a college student to help him find deals and help those around him.

"Since I was always on a budget, I learned every travel tip out there to save money on flights and hotels," he said. "Everything from maximizing points and miles to finding hidden airline deals, to understanding discounted opaque hotel deals and how to redeem them."

To make the most of the tool, which currently has over 30,000 downloads, Patil encourages users to watch TravelArrow's tutorial .

Next, check out three of its most popular features, including Beat Google Flights Prices, which allows users to access hidden fares that don't appear on Google Flights, Priceline and Hotwire Hidden Deal Reveal.

"We've helped thousands of people score luxury hotels for up to 60% off with this feature," Patil said. "Priceline has something called 'express deals', which are hotels that [the site] discounts up to 60% off the retail price, but the catch is they don't reveal the exact hotel name till after you book. So they anonymize the name in order to receive the discount. TravelArrow is able to predict the exact hotel name with 99% accuracy, so travelers can redeem these incredible discounts with certainty." This same feature, Patil said, also works on Hotwire's 'hot rates'.

Additionally, there's its Hotel Price Comparison where "TravelArrow will automatically compare more than 50 travel sites and display the cheapest price for the same dates and hotel," Patil explained. "This way, users don't have to manually compare multiple sites themselves."

(Currently, this feature only pops up when users search on Booking.com or Expedia, but the team is actively rolling it out to more major hotel and travel sites.)

And one more fantastic feature to mention is its in-house TravelArrow Miles. The program allows users to earn miles anytime they shop online at stores like Sephora or Walmart, meaning people can double-dip on credit card points and miles all in one.

See more about the extension and  test it for yourself here .

I don't usually write reviews but felt compelled to do so with this extension. Like others I was interested in the so-called price-saving deals. It says that it searches and will display even the airlines that don't show up in the aggregator sites. Well, that would be great, right? I hate having to look on Google Flights then having to pop over to Southwest Airlines to compare since they don't show up on Google Flights. Well, Travel Arrow DOES NOT show SW flight info, which renders it useless... Show more

used to tell me the hotel express deals and no longer seems to be able to tell me what it could be. not sure if they need to do some backend stuff to update it

Worked great for revealing hidden information when I needed to book a specific hotel. I don't travel often, but when I do, TravelArrow will be an outstanding resource.

Life changing, makes traveling SO much less of a guessing game- I think the biggest plus is listing the specifics of airlines (including how much legroom each seat offers). This is huge as a taller person.

I originally got this extension to see the missing fares from Kayak and Skyscanner on gflights, but then realized that also shows the seat legroom and links to the seatmap of the plane. I usually book exit row seats, and never know what the extra legroom looks like without these seat maps. Lifesaver frfr

It is click-bait. I got tricked. Then I went back to instagram and saw the viral video of people reporting the guy for lying and scamming them. So i also filed claim on the government site. Glad i am not the only one who was angry that the owner tricked us

Book with the airline. The founder blatantly lies on social media and then deletes comments & blocks all the people who call him out for lying. I saw a movement where people were reporting him to the FTC for fraud because he lures people to this app by making blatant lies (example he shows a roundtrip flight and then shows how Travel Arrow is cheaper and shows a 1-way flight but tries to hide that fact)

New Tool Shows Southwest Prices From Google Flights Search

If you’ve searched for an airline ticket of late, you know that finding cheap fares right now takes a little fortune and a lot of strategy. The key to getting a good deal on airfare is to compare flights.

Money expert Clark Howard typically uses  Google Flights or a similar multi-airline website to find cheap fares, but one carrier that is not included on these sites is Southwest Airlines, which gives you two checked bags for free .

So you may be curious to know if there’s an easy way to compare Google Flights fares to Southwest’s. Well, now there is.

How To See Your Google Flights Search on Southwest.com

A user on Reddit.com recently posted a newly created browser extension that lets you compare Southwest fares to what you’ve entered into Google Flights.

TravelArrow doesn’t just show Southwest flights; you can also see the exact itineraries you entered in Google Flights as well as Skyscanner.com , Kayak.com , and Expedia.com . You’ll never have an excuse not to compare flights again!

How Does TravelArrow Work?

TravelArrow opens fare information in new browser tabs, allowing you to see the exact route you put in Google Flights in other airfare sites with the click of a button.

Because the flights are pre-loaded on each website, you can easily see the prices and compare fares to get the best deal.

It says on the site, “TravelArrow is your travel companion. With just one click, automatically convert your exact Google Flights route onto Skyscanner and Kayak — which are travel search engines with cheaper fares. Also, convert your search directly onto Southwest Airlines – since they’re the only airline that doesn’t list fares on 3rd party websites. TravelArrow helps you access cheaper fares you’d otherwise never find!”

I tried out TravelArrow to see how it works and whether it’s easy it is to use. Follow these steps (which work only on a laptop or PC).

TravelArrow flight comparison tool

How To Find Cheap Fares on TravelArrow

Let’s say you want to look at flights to Maui, Hawaii, on Google Flights.

  • First, install TravelArrow in your browser . I use Google Chrome, so I clicked the Add to Chrome button.
  • Go to Google.com/Flights and enter the flight itinerary.
  • In Google Flights, click the TravelArrow Flight Compare button, which lets you select Skyscanner, Kayak, Expedia, and yes, Southwest.

TravelArrow flight compare button in Google Flights

From there, you can toggle between the browser tabs to see the different fares.

When I used the site, I was able to compare Maui fares on Google Flights as well as see results from Southwest.com. Using TravelArrow, here were the fares on the respective airlines I was able to instantly compare:

You can customize your search further by omitting specific airlines, choosing only direct flights, and of course, changing your desired dates and times.

To help offset higher prices on flights today, Clark says you should start searching for one-way fares . And don’t forget to take advantage of Southwest’s Low Fare Calendar to find dates when it’s cheaper to fly.

Final Thoughts

Remember, TravelArrow doesn’t show Southwest fares in Google Flights, but it opens the same itinerary you put in Google Flights on Southwest.com.

Judging from the reviews on its Chrome Store page (it shows that 30,000+ people have installed the extension), TravelArrow is a hit among travelers.

Here at Clark.com, we want you to always compare fares to find the cheapest deals on the trips you plan to take . Because it opens several browser tabs at once, TravelArrow puts that process on steroids.

Travel Arrow Plug-In Finds The Deals Google Flights Might Miss

A TikTok video is going viral and getting travelers privy to another way to save money on flights. The Chrome extension Travel Arrow is designed to be an all-in-one travel planning assistant. However, millennial and Gen-Z travelers are loving how the plug-in filters through deals on flights. In the viral TikTok, the user described the extension as superior to Google Flights.

While Google Flights will pull cheap flight pricing for travelers, Travel Arrow takes it a step further by pulling deals from airlines that Google Flights might miss. It even pulls from Southwest, the only airline that doesn’t display flight costs on third-party websites.

When it comes to finding the best deals, travelers say Travel Arrow is more efficient than Google Flights.

Find Flight Deals Fast

Travel Arrow finds deals fast. Instead of shuffling through web pages looking for deals, the extensions display deals for you. Google Flights is beloved amongst travelers worldwide. However, it only will show the cheapest flight, not special deals and promotions being offered by each airline. Once you enter your desired flight, Travel Arrow will populate active deals on the airlines’ website.

“I love Google Flights, but sometimes it doesn’t give me the best deals,” the TikToker said in the video.

The extension also displays deals from travel companies like Kayak, Expedia , Trip, and Skyscanner to ensure travelers find the best deals. For example, according to Lifehacker.com, the cheapest route on Google Flights from San Francisco to Austin was $281 on Frontier Airlines. Once they entered the same route into Travel Arrow, the extension found a cheaper fare of $243 through Kayak.

More Than Just Deals

Since the viral TikTok video, travelers have fallen in love with Travel Arrow tracking down flight deals. However, the extension does much more. Sometimes, it doesn’t locate the best deal but the shortest route.

For those looking for deals on hotels, Travel Arrow has a feature that reveals the hidden 4- and 5-star hotels on Priceline’s Express Deal feature. If you don’t have time to filter through deals, you can set up notifications to be alerted when deals become available. Shopping with certain brands while traveling will give you cash back through the extension while its 24/7 travel concierge makes vacation planning easy and simple.

You might want to rethink your strategy if you’ve been booking exclusively through Google Flights. A TikTok viral video posted by user travelsocial reveals a cost-saving traveling tip.

The video, which racked up over 1.9 million views since it was posted on July 27, starts with an on-screen caption warning those who book directly through Google Flights: “YOU’RE BEING RIPPED OFF BY GOOGLE FLIGHTS IF YOU DO THIS!!!”

@travelsocial #stitch with @Tiff&lt3 for educational purposes tiktok #travel #fyp #flights #flightdeals #travelling #travelhack #budgeting ♬ original sound – c

In the clip, the TikToker shares her discovery. “There’s a Google Flights plugin that seems borderline illegal. Look, I love Google Flights, but sometimes it doesn’t give me the best deals,” she says.

travelsocial explains that she initially found a flight on Google Flights. The tool listed Frontier as the cheapest option at $98 and JetBlue ticket priced at $118. After using a plugin called Travel Arrow on the JetBlue website, she found a hidden $50 discount. That made the flight significantly cheaper than anything listed on Google Flights.

“If you travel, you always need to go to the airline’s website and then download a plugin like Travel Arrow so the deals pop up right here. It’ll show you all the good deals, and this one expires today so run!” travelsocial concludes.

Fortunately, travelsocial’s revelation isn’t the only way to save on flights. While Google Flights might be the go-to for many travelers, a variety of other tools and platforms can help you find the best deals for your trip.

According to an article on heretotravel.com , Skyscanner is highly recommended. When it comes to seating arrangements, nomadparadise.com recommends Seat Guru.

Travel is a frequent trending topic on social media. Though Google Flights might need a bit of help in 2023, in the past it served as a reliable source of affordable air travel .

The Daily Dot reached out to travelsocial via TikTok for comment.

Saved $100 on my flight to Vegas! Had to come and write a review to say thanks :)

Nelson Bonilla

Definitely misleading and not at all what their social media indicates. This extension in no way shows you anything from non-US travel sites. It just opens other sites such as Kayak and Skyscanner for you. Sometimes it doesn't even perform the search on those sites. Completely useless and misleading.

Daphne

Not sure what people are complaining about. This extension has saved me heaps, especially since I travel around a lot. $50 - $100 saved here and they really add up. Bruh people just hating cause they don't know how to use and install chrome extensions

Bryan Rider

Definitely not as described in ads. Deleted after 2 searches

Alan Salganik

Ads claim it opens in new international "search engines" - it just opens in the domestic versions of skyscanner, kayak, etc conveniently with affiliate links in the URL. There are no "hidden" prices being exposed. Scam.

Z K

Doesn't even work. The side bar does not even show up. Good marketing on social media but a complete fail in reality.

Ray Nirola

Found a great deal on Priceline express deals hidden hotels. Cashback is also decent, redeemed more than USD 150 worth of gift cards till now.

Helpful to find discounts and cheap flights. Accurately connects the right offer in the market.

Google flights showed cheaper price before the installation of this extension. I compared with two browser. One with this extension installed and one without. The one without provided accurate results in google flights. My question is why google flights not showing cheaper options after installing the extension?
