Insider Today

For many students, the months right after graduation are one of the few times in their life when they'll be able to travel for weeks on end uninterrupted. Plus, with the CDC announcing US travel is safe for those who are vaccinated and the EU in talks to open up for US tourists , the summer is looking bright for bigger trips.

If you're grad plans to take a trip (big or small) and you're seeking travel graduation gift ideas to help them on their journey, we found a wide range of options to fit the bill.

Whether in the form of an Airbnb gift card, a shiny new suitcase, or a luxurious toiletry bag, these graduation gifts for travelers and jet-setters are both a helpful and hopeful way to show how proud you are of these achievements.

11 Travel Graduation Gifts for the Wanderlusting Grad

Congratulations, they did it!

Someone is approaching their graduation, and you're looking for meaningful yet not bank-breaking gifts to inspire them for the next phase of their life. If that person is even moderately adventurous, soul searching, and wanderlusty, you are in the right place.

The following ten suggestions are unisex and chosen for new grads to help them reflect inward, adventure onward, and just congratulate them for reaching this milestone in their life. Each gift is guaranteed to encourage, entertain, and inspire wanderlust.

Some of the links below are affiliate. They do not at all affect the price you pay for your item, but they do kick me a lil' sumsum for suggesting the items to you. By purchasing off of this post you're giving me an internet ‘thank you', and helping negate a tiny portion of the costs to keep this blog running! xo

1. A once in a lifetime adventure!

The most expensive gift on this list but also probably the most valuable, for a few reasons.

A trip abroad could be just what the doctor ordered for a recent college grad. They've spent years working to reach this accomplishment and can feel a bit overwhelmed by the world at this point. Not only is a trip abroad relaxing and congratulatory, but it gives them the perspective they need to guide them in the near future.

The getaways I've linked below offer a ton of amenities from a variety of different dates, to daily meals, and airfare inclusive—all at an unbelievable price. You and a few family members could split the price for this and truly give a gift that lasts a lifetime.

2. DNA Ethnic Background Test

A unique, multipurpose gift to help your recent grad find out more about their identity—something they're likely questioning a lot at the moment.

Graduation Gift Amazon Shop AncestryDNA

And once they get some clues to “who they are”, they can plan a trip to some of the global regions that they're “from”. Buy this,  click here .

3. Sponsor their blog/website.

One of my favorite ideas. A blog or website is a great way for them to stay productive, hone their passions, and it's just fun!

It's also a great asset for job hunting, which they likely be doing a lot of at this point. They can host their resume, reference, and portfolio of work on their website. It goes a long way in an interview, I guarantee it.

You can pay to host their website with companies like  Big Scoots  for 1, 3 or even 5 years. You pay cheap costs to have a domain name like mine, www.packslight.com. Once you have a web host, I suggest your grad use WordPress to design and launch their site.

4.  Oh, the Places You'll Go!  by Dr. Suess

Maybe the most popular/cliche graduation gift, but a wonderful one none the less. And, it's very travel related! Oh, literally, the places you will go!

Make this a truly heartwarming gift by having each family member and friend write a personalized notes in the blank pages at the beginning and end of the book. It's much easier to keep a heartwarming card when it's a book (and they're definitely less likely to accidentally throw it away).

5. Passport Cover

Assuming your grad has a passport (if they don't, that's the best gift! Help them order one for $135), a passport cover can be a wonderful gift. They can inspire your grad to put that passport to use, and also be very useful for protecting their information and not keeping their travel documents.

I am in LOVE with this, mine just arrived in the mail and I am beyond excited to use it.

It has 75 prompt cards such as “Ask the next person you meet where his/her favorite street is. Go there”  and “Write down what you like about this city on a small piece of paper. Leave it where someone else will find it later” .

It's a challenge to be present, and get out of your comfort zone! It's great to use abroad, but it can also be a great way to explore your hometown. Half of the suggestions may be a little cheesy—so take it with a grain of salt—but it's a fun and inspiring gift nonetheless.

7. Travel Between the Lines,  Adult Coloring Book

“47 travel illustrations for globetrotters and daydreamers” says enough about this meditative gift.

A gift to inspire and relax your recent grad. What clears your mind better than coloring in a stunning landscape of Lisbon, or a tropical scene in St. Lucia? Practically nothing.

8. Hidden Contents Gross Underwear Secret Stasher

I am in LOVE with this, seriously!!! First of all, it's hilarious—but it's really functional too.

Imagine: your new grad is at the beach and wants to get into the water. However, they don't want to leave their cellphone and just laying on their towel, and also doesn't want to leave GramGram alone there in the sun.

THIS IS THE SOLUTION. I've heard of “clean diaper”, fake water bottles, and fake hairbrush tricks to stash your items, but all of those items can be thrown away or easily lost.

I promise you no one is going to try to help them dispose of their stinky drawers, and no one will ever think to go through them. It's sort of a hilarious gag gift for them to open up, but it may also be the most ingenious invention of our generation.

10/10, would recommend it.

9. Scratch Off World Map

Get them the gift of visual encouragement, and inspire them to get to scratchin'.

Also if they just graduated and are moving out of mom and dad's house, this is a great inspirational piece to fill up those new empty walls. It's a great way to kick off their new, independent life.

10. TSA PreCheck

The gift of skipping long airport security lines and not taking off your shoes is truly one of the most magical gifts one can give.

This $85 gift is valid for 5 years, and if you travel at least once a year internationally I think it's worth it! Also, having TSA precheck is just another incentive for your college grad to put it to use and go somewhere amazing. I would definitely shed a tear if someone got this for me.

TSA PreCheck

11. Noise Cancelling Headphones

Really any millennial travelers' ESSENTIAL item.

Why, you ask?

In crowded, 16-person hostel rooms, when you're in the middle seat of two crying babies on a 14-hour flight (don't ask me how), when you're trying to sleep and didn't realize your Airbnb was situated next door to a dubstep dance hall…  you will realize why.

This is a great list! When I graduated my parents got me a beautify framed world map and pins to mark where I have traveled. Seeing the world so visually every day has inspired me to get more and more pins on it!

My college graduation trip from my parents was a three week trip to Hawaii with my then boyfriend (now husband) – they’d been planning on buying me a car, but thought I’d enjoy this more and sure enough, the memories from that trip have lasted way longer than a car would have. It’s a pricey gift, but it’s a great one! Also, I’ve never heard of number 8 but oh my goodness, I need someone in my life to buy those for!!! Great list!

I wish my parents had gotten any of these when I graduated lol! They were not exactly and still aren’t with my wanderlusting nature.

I have already graduated but can someone get me these items? I really want either the gifted trip or the underwear. Definitely a toss up.

Great gifts idea, Im’m graduating next year, hope to the one of these gifts 🙂

Great ideas! That hidden underwear things is wild, LOL. But I love how most of these are out of the box and awesome!

The 27 Best High School Graduation Gifts

A bunch of products we recommend as gifts for high school graduates, next to a graduation cap and confetti.

By Samantha Schoech

Samantha Schoech is a writer focusing on gifts. She spends her time finding things that combine quality, beauty, usefulness, and delight.

The transition from high school to whatever pseudo-adult period that follows—college, trade school, a gap year, or working—is a time for celebration. But it’s also a time for preparation. Many items can make that next stage of life easier to navigate (or, at least, easier to navigate with more whimsy). Below, we’ve assembled the very best from our product research and firsthand testing to carry your high school grad through their next adventure—and for years beyond.

Gifts for any grad

A joy infusion.

travel graduation gifts

Algonquin Books The Book of Delights

This book of short, joyful essays by poet Ross Gay chronicles the small, daily delights that can be found in the seemingly mundane moments of life.

Buying Options

Poet and essayist Ross Gay decided that he would write about something that delighted him every day for one year. Whether an entry is about pick-up ball, carrying a tomato seedling through an airport, or the unrestrained use of air quotes, each one The Book of Delights is funny, moving, and eye-opening. And, more importantly, these mini essays remind us that looking around and paying close attention can add delight and joy to our everyday lives.

A closeup of a hand wearing the GLDN Memoire Ring in gold.

GLDN Memoire Ring

This low-profile wrap ring in available in three metals and can be engraved with a grad’s name, a school name, or the graduation year.

If your grad wants the classic Jostens class ring, great! If their style is a little more subtle, however, we love the dainty wraparound GLDN Memoire Ring , which can be personalized with your graduate’s name and year (or whatever you want). It comes in gold fill, sterling silver, or 14-karat recycled solid gold, and it can accommodate up to about 10 characters on the top and bottom.

A brush with fame

A collage of celebrities for Cameo.

Hire a celebrity or sorta-celebrity from the worlds of music, film, TV, comedy, sports, or business to record a personalized video message.

If your grad digs pop culture or could just use a laugh, give them a congrats video from Cameo , the platform that sends personalized messages from celebs and those who are celeb-adjacent. Get their favorite B- or C-list star (remember Seamus Finnegan in Harry Potter ?) to record a greeting for about $50 to $100. Or you could splurge on heartfelt words from NFL legend Brett Farve (about $280) or cheery well-wishes from rapper J-Kwon (about $1,000). Many Wirecutter staffers have received Cameos ranging from meaningful to absurd. They’re always a hit.

Fancy footwear

A pair of white Nike Air Force one sneakers.

Nike Air Force 1

These tried-and-true shoes have a chunky silhouette and a long history, both on the court and on the street. They may be large and heavy, but they’re also a comfy statement piece.

Nike’s Air Force 1 sneakers are the most ubiquitous teen footwear in the US. They’re also one of our favorite white sneaker picks of all time. We could attribute their popularity to the durably stitched overlays or the comfy foam midsole. But it’s more likely due to the sneakers’ streamlined aesthetic and the undeniable power of trends. White on white is what you’ll most often see in the wild, and it’s probably the safest bet for a grad gift. But we love Air Force 1s even more in snazzy color combos (check out the UNDEFEATED version). Nike also has a design-your-own option, so your grad can combine patterns, colors, and soles until their shoes are a perfect reflection of their soul. If you go this route, there are gift cards at the ready.

Get-around money

travel graduation gifts

This cute card features a clear bubble to stash bills. And it makes giving cold hard cash a little more celebratory.

The price of freedom is currently about $3.71 a gallon (make that $4.80 in California), and it adds up fast. Give teens what they really want: money for gas. This cute bubble card makes handing over cash a lot more ceremonial, and you can choose the amount.

A reminder of home

A closeup of a person wearing the Coordinate Fine Cuff Bracelet in gold.

Coordinate Fine Cuff Bracelet

This customizable gold-plated or silver cuff bracelet bears the geographical coordinates of a special place, and it’s relatively affordable.

No matter how much your grad is looking forward to leaving home for college or a far-flung adventure, they will experience homesickness from time to time. Engraved with the coordinates of home, this delicate cuff bracelet will be a reminder of where they came from. Made from recycled materials and available in yellow or rose gold-plate, and silver tones, this subdued bracelet is subtle enough for every day and elegant enough for fancier affairs.

A comforting blanket

A person sitting in bed reading a book, covered by a white Baloo Weighted Throw Blanket.

Baloo Weighted Blanket

This well-balanced, crisp, quilt-like blanket weighs 12 pounds, and it can go in the washer and dryer.

The jury is still out on whether weighted blankets have actual physical or mental health benefits, but the anecdotal evidence shows that many people swear by them for a feeling of comfort and relaxation. For a teen leaving home, a weighted blanket might be the closest you can get to a much-needed long-distance hug. The crisp, 100% cotton Baloo Weighted Throw Blanket is weighted by tiny glass balls that are well distributed throughout. One of our weighted blanket picks , the Baloo also comes in standard bed sizes. It can go in the washer and dryer, and it comes in four colors, so a cover isn’t strictly necessary. (Sold separately, the gorgeous linen duvet covers are soft and luxurious.) For grads who are missing snuggles with pets or family members, this blanket could be a nice stand-in.

A unique laptop case

travel graduation gifts

Society6 Laptop Sleeve

This laptop sleeve is sturdily constructed, so it should protect a laptop from bumps, even if the fit isn’t perfect. And you can choose from designs by countless artists.

Your grad will be lugging a laptop all over campus, and they’ll want to protect it. We tested dozens of laptop sleeves , and we found the one from Society6 to be the best option for a tough case in a seemingly endless variety of designs. Sized to fit both 13-inch and 15-inch laptops, Society6 sleeves come in thousands of prints designed by independent artists. It can take a while to scroll through all of the designs, but you can filter your search for different categories, like photography, nature, or vintage. We love these city maps designs , and one of them might give your grad a constant reminder of home. These cases look cool, and the canvas-style polyester material is great at protecting against scratches and dust.

Headphones for limiting distractions

A pair of black Bose Noise Canceling Headphones 700 in front of a blue background.

Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700

These comfortable, lightweight headphones deliver excellent noise cancellation, and they’re travel-friendly. They do carry a high price, however.

Dorm rooms and even libraries can get really noisy, so new college students may find it hard to focus. A pair of noise-cancelling headphones can be the difference between having a calm study session or one interrupted by that one person who inevitably comes to the library with a 10-decibel bag of chips. Our top pick from Bose , the Noise Cancelling Headphones 700 excel for their sound, portability, and adjustability, but they aren’t cheap. Testers also love that the active noise cancellation (ANC) level can be adjusted from 0 to 10. So if your grad’s ears are feeling too much pressure or discomfort (what we call “ eardrum suck ”), or if they just want a little more awareness of their surroundings, they can find the ANC level that works for them.

Headed to the dorms

Caffeine delivery.

A red Nespresso Essenza Mini.

Nespresso Essenza Mini

The Essenza Mini makes the same espresso as $400 Nespresso machines but has a smaller footprint and no unnecessary features.

This no fuss Nespresso Essenza Mini , our favorite Nespresso machine , is about as straightforward as they come and produces nice, frothy coffees at the touch of a button. It has a slim countertop footprint, comes in a few different cool colors, and requires nothing more than an outlet and a water source (the dorm bathroom sink, for example) to run. As long as they (or, more likely, their parents) keep the pods in stock, it’s perfect for those late-night study sessions.

The next best friend

travel graduation gifts

All About Vibe Custom Pet Pillow

Transform a high-res image into a double-take-worthy pet doppelgänger. It arrives in about a week.

These life-sized (or larger) stuffed animals are so realistic, it’s almost as good having your furry friend in the flesh. Simply send in a digital photograph of a pet (or a beloved human) and All About the Vibe will create a 10, 16, or 24-inch tall stuffed polyester velvet pillow. Though beware: These pillows are so realistic-looking they can be mistaken for the real thing!

The Apple iPad (9th generation).

Apple iPad (9th generation)

With a large screen, a fast-enough processor, and Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard support, the 9th-gen iPad offers the features that most tablet users need.

College students need computers, but having this 10.2-inch Apple iPad , our favorite tablet , allows them to take notes, record lectures, and access files without lugging a laptop all over campus. The Apple Pencil makes it especially handy for students who need to take notes manually or incorporate drawings or equations. The 9th-generation iPad has the same processor as the iPhone 11 does, so it’s not the most up-to-date tablet Apple sells, but it’s still fast enough for all but the most demanding tasks. Oh, and it streams movies too.

Blingy lights

A coiled-up TP-Link Tapo Smart Wi-Fi Light Strip, with its lights turned on to a pinkish hue.

TP-Link Tapo Smart Wi-Fi Light Strip L930-5

This light set is affordable and bright, produces accurate colors, has features that others don’t, and is simple to set up and use.

One of the best things about moving into a dorm room is decorating it to reflect personal taste and style. Your grad will have no trouble finding a Starry Night poster, but they might not think of smart strip lights (which are made of a flexible, rubbery material with LEDs embedded). The TP-Link Tapo Smart Wi-Fi Light Strip , our top pick, is a cinch to set up and stick to walls, and it can even be trimmed down with scissors. Your grad can use their smartphone to set timers, change brightness and colors, and even make lights pulse to the beat of music. It comes with a remote but this set can also connect to all of the smart-home systems, including Amazon Alexa and Google Home for voice control.

Late-night snacks

The Presto PopLite Popcorn Popper next to a bowl of freshly popped popcorn.

Presto PopLite

This simple hot-air popper needs very little tending, and it makes much better popcorn than any microwave options.

Just picture it: Friends crowd a dorm room to indulge in a big bowl of popcorn after a long night at the library (or, ahem, a bar). When it’s made from scratch, popcorn is much tastier than any prefab microwavable option. Of all the methods we’ve tested , the Presto PopLite Popcorn Popper is the best one for a crowd. Stovetop methods require constantly shaking or stirring the kernels … and a stove. And microwaving can result in burnt kernels if it goes even seconds too long. But this air popper blows out the kernels after they pop, and it perfectly produces an entire batch in under two minutes. The Presto PopLite also allows for culinary experimentation: Butter and salt are classic pairings, but for the gourmet grad, we also suggest paprika, olive oil, and pepper.

A dorm cleaner

The Ryobi 18V One+ Performance Hand Vacuum in front of a violet background.

Ryobi 18V One+ Performance Hand Vacuum Kit

This cordless handheld vacuum has powerful suction, a long battery life, and a large bin, so tidying up the dorm room is a cinch.

May be out of stock

There will be spills. And grit. And grime. And grads headed off to dorm rooms are going to have to deal with those on their own. The cordless Ryobi 18V One+ is our pick for the best all-around handheld vacuum . Our testers appreciated this vac’s powerful suction, quick charging, and useful attachments. Plus, it has a three-year warranty, which may come in handy after everyone on the dorm floor borrows it.

Dorm decorating

A roll of Chasing Paper wrapping paper with an orange and white palm tree pattern on it.

Chasing Paper Gift Certificate

This company offers lightweight, fabric-based wallpaper with a tactile, woven finish. It’s easy to install and features crisp printing in multiple styles.

Dorm room walls are invariably bland or painted some awful institutional color. Removable wallpaper could be just the answer to this problem. For temporary room upgrades, we love Milwaukee-based Chasing Paper’s peel-and-stick fabric wallpaper (it will easily last through the school year). This company offers hundreds of designs and patterns, and to narrow it down, your grad can sort by styles like abstract, floral, or geometric. Our testers picked Chasing Paper’s wallpaper for its easy installation and pleasant, tactile feel. The best part: When it’s taken down, there won’t be charges for damage. Be aware that peel-and-stick wallpaper doesn’t work well on textured walls (think cinder blocks), and it can peel off fresh paint.

A portable chair

A photo of a blue GCI Outdoor Everywhere Chair, sitting in front of a tent with a red cooler next to it.

GCI Outdoor Everywhere Chair

This low-profile chair is easy to carry, adjusts for uneven ground, has good back support, and sports a cup holder (rare for compact chairs).

Get 10% off w/ code WIRE10GCI

For outdoor concerts and impromptu hangouts, a portable chair will keep your graduate seated more comfortably than if they had to rough it on damp grass. And a low-to-the-ground model will ensure they’re not blocking anyone’s view or awkwardly looming over their friends. We love the GCI Outdoor Everywhere Chair . It’s comfortable, has great back support, and folds up easily, and it’s adjustable for sitting on uneven ground.

Stylish flip-flops

travel graduation gifts

Havaianas Top Flip Flop (women’s)

These no-nonsense rubber sandals are durable, grippy, and squeak-free when wet.

Whether your graduate will be sharing a gross dorm bathroom or just a regular bathroom with gross roommates (or perhaps moving to the tropics), they’ll want an excellent pair of flip-flops to protect their feet. Our favorites are the Havaianas Top Flip Flops . They don’t squeak when wet, they’re grippier on wet surfaces, and they’re available in seemingly endless color options. You’ll get big bonus points if you pair them with a ticket to an island destination.

A mask for shut-eye

A black Nidra Deep Rest Eye Mask on a wicker basket.

Nidra Deep Rest Eye Mask

This eye mask’s snug-yet-soft cup shape makes it the best room-darkening version we’ve tried.

Since your grad will be sharing a room (maybe for the first time), they’re going to discover the hard way that people operate on very different sleep schedules. Whether they’re paired with a night owl or a morning lark, a comfortable, light-blocking eye mask will help them snooze through whatever’s happening. The lightweight Nidra Deep Rest Eye Mask —our favorite—fits comfortably, and it effectively blocks light on a wide variety of face shapes. Plus, the deep eyecups allow eyes to flutter during sleep.

A wrinkle remover

The Conair CompleteSteam Hand Held Fabric Steamer in front of a pink background.

Conair CompleteSteam Hand Held Fabric Steamer (GS2X)

In the world of small travel steamers, there are some real clunkers. But this one is better built and more efficient than most.

It’s probably fair to say that many Gen Zers have never picked up an iron. But that doesn’t mean they have to traipse around as rumpled as an unmade bed. With our fabric steamer budget pick , your grad can relax those wrinkles in way less time than it takes to assemble a clunky ironing station. This diminutive version from Conair  works best for travel and occasional use—and, let’s be honest, that’s probably what it’s going to get from most college students. Still, it will come in handy before that formal or job interview.

Off to see the world

Durable luggage.

A black Away The Carry-On suitbase, alongside a tote and other small items.

Away The Carry-On

This chic-looking and resilient piece of hard-sided luggage has top-of-the-line components, including shockingly smooth-rolling wheels.

For future academic conferences, business trips, or leisure travel, your graduate will need proper (and good looking) luggage. We have many great picks for carry-on backpacks , carry-on suitcases , and duffles . But our travel team deems this sleek Away The Carry-On well worth the hype . The durable polycarbonate hardshell case weighs only 7.6 pounds and has the best 360-degree rollers of any suitcase we tested. The 40-liter carry-on (enough room for three to five days away) comes with a laundry bag, a built-in combination lock (also TSA approved), and, best of all, a lifetime warranty. Away suitcases are available in four sizes (in an array of style-friendly colors) for those taking longer trips.

An organized toiletry bag

A color block Topo Designs Dopp Kit features tan, teal blue, and subtle red.

Topo Designs Dopp Kit

This contemporary-looking bag packs down flat yet is still roomy when expanded. It does, however, lack pockets and a hook.

For exciting travels abroad, or even just travels across the hall to the communal bathroom, a good toiletry bag can make all the difference. One of our favorites is the water-resistant Topo Designs Dopp Kit . Like our other toiletry-kit recommendations , this one has space to hold all of your grad’s essentials. And due to its unusual triangular prism shape and color-blocked design, this bag will stand out from the crowd.

A blanket for outdoors

A person wears a colorful Rumpl Original Puffy Blanket around them, while standing on a snowy mountain top.

Rumpl Original Puffy Blanket

A slightly heavier and stiffer blanket than the brand’s Down Puffy, but for less money and with more style options.

Whether it’s used for a quad picnic, an impromptu picnic in Paris, an on-the-spot nap in Yellowstone, or an extra layer on an overnight train, your graduate’s best bet will be a puffy blanket , Waterproof, durable, and warm, puffy blankets are relatively new additions to the outdoor scene, but they are primed to secure a permanent spot. Our runner-up pick is the polyester-filled Rumpl Original Puffy Blanket which comes sized for either one or two people. It’s not quite as fluffy and soft as the Rumpl Down Puffy, but it’s less than half the price and comes in much cuter designs.

Power in their pocket

The TravelCard Plus in a teal color.

TravelCard Plus

This power bank is one of the smallest and lightest around. It has a powerful USB-C PD port, built-in USB-C and Lightning cables, and a 3,000 mAh rated capacity. But it recharges slower than our other picks.

A dead phone battery is a real bummer. That’s especially true if your grad’s social life is tied to their phone. Or maybe you still pay the bill and take solace in location tracking. Either way, it’s wise to have a bit of extra juice at the ready. To make good use of the TravelCard Plus , your grad doesn’t have to know a watt from a mAh. It’s one of our portable power bank picks because it’s light, slim, and its USB-C PD port, built-in USB-C cable, and built-in Lightning cable can fast-charge most smartphones or other handheld devices. Plus, it comes in snazzy colors.

The working world

A transition backpack.

The Patagonia Refugio Daypack 26L in lilac and light blue.

Patagonia Refugio Daypack 26L

With its padded mesh straps and back panels, this sporty-looking pack makes carrying heavy loads lighter and comfier. It also has easy-to-use water-bottle pockets and a removable laptop sleeve—but it could use more interior organization.

No matter what they say, they’re not adults yet. But, although they may be a ways away from briefcases or a slick messenger bag, they do need to upgrade their filthy high school backpack. If they have lots of stuff to haul around—a laptop, a large water bottle, or bulky gym gear—the Patagonia Refugio Daypack 26L , one of our favorite backpacks for high school and college students, is a friend indeed. The bag’s ergonomic and comfort features keep heavy loads feeling light. Plus, it has a sleek, sporty design that is suitable for work but doesn’t look like they're playing grown-up. It’s available in lots of appealing solids and color combos, including the always-sleek all-black. Perhaps a more germane vouch? It was unanimously approved by a handful of teens in our lives.

A movable workspace

A sideview of two hands using the keyboard of a laptop, perched on the LapGear Designer Lap Desk.

LapGear Designer Lap Desk

This lap desk is the total package in terms of style, comfort, stability, and build quality, and it includes some extra storage options.

Whether your graduate is starting college or a new job, they’ll likely be doing most of their work on a laptop. Free them from being tied to a single workspace by giving them a lap desk , which will allow them to comfortably work from under a tree or even from their own bed. The LapGear Designer Lap Desk is our favorite. It comes in several colors and patterns and rests comfortably on the lap. And it has a slot to hold a phone, a handle for carrying or hanging, and an elastic strap for storing index cards or a pen.

A card carrier

A black Leatherology Slim Card Case with a couple of cards inside, in front of a green background.

Leatherology Slim Card Case

This tasteful leather case is good-looking, has four card slots, and comes in 10 colors.

It’s true that teens don’t often carry cash, but they should have a grownup way to carry a license, a debit card, coffee punch cards, and a student ID. Leatherology’s Slim Card Case —which our testers picked for its simplicity and good looks—has four card slots and a cash pocket. It comes in 10 colors and can be engraved (for an extra $10).

We love finding gifts that are unusual, thoughtful, and well vetted. See even more gift ideas we recommend .

  • Longchamp Tote Bag – a luxury tote bag for work, play, and travel
  • 2 Piece Hardside Luggage Set – A matching carry on and larger suitcase

Have fun shopping for travel graduation gifts. Some of these items will be used by the recipient for a decade or more. Best Graduation Gifts of 2024 from a Recent Grad

The class of 2024 deserves graduation gifts that let them know you’re proud of their hard work. While these fresh faces are ready to take on the world, they might not have all the items they need to do so. Their graduation is the perfect time to give them a high-quality gift that will help them feel less like a clueless student and more like a capable adult.

We’ve gathered our favorites (including insights from a recent college grad) here. They’re built to last but versatile enough to evolve with a new grad, and they fit into a variety of budgets. Whether you’re helping a grad deck out a dorm or setting them up for professional success, we’ve got the graduation gifts that will make them feel as bright as their future.

Sunday Citizen Waffle Lightweight Throw  »

Sunday Citizen Waffle Lightweight Throw

List Price:

Everyone deserves a fantastic blanket — especially a new grad who could use a little extra coziness as they venture out into the world. This wonderfully soft blanket from Sunday Citizen is oversized for maximum comfort, and we love the added texture that the waffle pattern brings. Maintenance is easy, too. It can be tossed in a washing machine without losing its softness, and a hypoallergenic fabric won’t irritate sensitive skin like certain nylons or wools. And unlike other bedding items like sheets or a duvet cover that may not fit certain beds, it can follow a new grad no matter where they head in the coming years. It’ll be their snuggly mainstay as they bounce from dorm to friend’s futon to first place of their own.

This waffle model is made with one layer of the company’s signature fabric. It’s warm, but not too heavy for people who run hot. If you know someone who runs cold or is heading to a new job or school in a chilly climate, you could upgrade to the double-layered checkerboard throw for added heat. All in all, it’s a blanket that gives any new grad a big hug when you’re too far away to do the job.

Lume Cube VC-Lite  »

Lume Cube VC-Lite

Help a new grad look their best for under $50. No matter where they’re headed next, there’s likely to be some Zoom calls, photoshoots, or virtual interviews in their future, and a ring light ensures they’re looking bright-eyed and fresh on all those interactions.

This LED light from Lume Cube easily mounts to a laptop, providing optimal lighting for every virtual get-together. We love that it’s super versatile, making it ideal for grads who may not have a dedicated workspace yet. You can mount it in a few different positions atop a laptop, and quickly adjust brightness and warmth settings, ensuring on-the-go grads can make the most of it. When the workday is over, anyone can prop it up on a makeshift tripod to create lighting worthy of a professional photoshoot, whether they’re trying to get a résumé headshot or just fun pics with friends. The device typically does need a new charge after only about an hour of use. Even so, it gets the lighting job done well for the price.

Dell 14 Portable Monitor  »

Dell 14 Portable Monitor

Whether you know a techie who’s a gamer, a budding startup entrepreneur, or just a person who loves the latest gadgets, they’re going to benefit from a second monitor. It gives them more room to do their work or gaming, and is a game-changer for video conferencing. Even so, a lot of students don’t make the investment in one, since they may not have the extra cash or a dedicated workspace.

The beauty of this portable monitor is that they still don’t need a dedicated workspace to get the most out of it. Easy to connect and less than 1.5 pounds, they can throw it in their backpack to use at the library, set it up at a makeshift desk anywhere they’re remotely working, or bring it on a business trip. And since it’s so slim, they can tuck it away with ease, ensuring it’s not taking up tons of space in a small dorm or apartment.

This is compatible with laptops, not desktops, but that shouldn’t be much of a problem for most new grads. Overall, it’s a gift that will help the tech enthusiast in your life create the setup they need for success.

Fujifilm Instax Mini 12 Instant Camera  »

Fujifilm Instax Mini 12

Most members of the class of 2024 are already capturing fun, silly moments with their smartphones, but those pics don’t get to see the light of day. An instant camera lets them continue to snap great photos, but also provides them with a gorgeously raw, unedited printed photo. You’ll introduce them to the joy of having a physical image they can keep in their wallet, put in a frame, or stick on their fridge to add a personal touch in a new place that doesn’t yet feel like home.

Fujifilm makes a cute, easy-to-use instant camera that new grads can stick in their bags wherever they go. It has a flash so that they can keep taking fun pics after dark, as well as a selfie mode. Pricier instant cameras may produce slightly sharper images, but this is a solid, everyday model that’s built to last and will still churn out quality pics.

The camera comes with the AA batteries it needs, but not the film. We recommend throwing in a few rolls of film in with the gift so a graduate doesn’t have to spend a ton to have cherished memories in hand.

HOTO Hand Tool Set  »

HOTO Hand Tool Set

A solid set of tools comes in handy no matter where a graduate is off to next, and it’s probably not at the top of their list of things to buy for themselves. Equipped with this toolkit from you, though, the recipient will send a silent thank you every time a pair of pliers saves their day or they can put together a piece of furniture without Googling where to find a hardware store.

This set from HOTO has all the basic tools you need to get started in a new place, including a tape measure, a wrench, and a multi-purpose screwdriver with 10 bits. The hammer comes with a nice rubber cap, protecting work surfaces but also keeping noise down, a nice bonus for new graduates who will be living in close proximity to other people. But what we (and new grads) especially love about this set is its design. Super sleek, compact, and about as organized as a set of tools can get, it’s the rare practical gift that’s also gorgeous.

Monos Metro Folio Kit  »

Monos Metro Folio Kit

It doesn’t matter if you know a new grad with a backpacking trip planned or one that just loves to bop around a city all day — wherever they are, this stunning leather folio will be their best on-the-go companion.

Inside the sleek, unisex folio, new grads can fit a wallet or just a few cards they need, an e-reader or small journal, their passport, and their on-the-go essentials like a phone charger, chapstick, a pen, and keys. Small pockets and sturdy elastic loops keep contents from spilling out every time they open it, and saves them from having to rifle through pockets to find what they need.

We love that it can function as part of a larger carry-on to keep their most important items close when they travel, or can just be a slim, sleek way to carry everything they need as they’re exploring a new city. Importantly, a gorgeous design helps new grads look like they’ve got life all figured out (even when that’s not quite the case).

Saddleback Leather Co. Medium Leather Portfolio  »

Saddleback Medium Leather Portfolio

Any graduate hoping to fast-track their career needs a solid portfolio to help them get there. Compact and professional, a solid portfolio is an investment that can climb the corporate ladder alongside them.

This one from Saddleback Leather Company checks all the portfolio boxes. It’s made from a durable, water-resistant leather and stitches designed to prevent stretching, so it can stand up to tons of wear and tear while maintaining its distinguished aesthetic. Big enough to hold essentials like a notepad, tablet, résumés, and cards but still slim enough to be unobtrusive, it’s an item appropriate anywhere from interviews to business trips to meetings with clients. It comes in four different colors, all of which are as practical as they are striking.

Office supply stores offer cheaper portfolios, but you’re paying for what you get — the less well-made items don’t look nearly as nice, and they’ll fall apart quickly. Saddleback’s leather portfolio, on the other hand, will go a long way in helping graduates dress for the job they want.

Le Labo Classic Candle  »

Le Labo Classic Candle

$84.00 (Personalization is included)

A high-end candle is one of our favorite indulgent gifts for a new grad, and you can make one extra special with a personalized label on a Le Labo Classic candle. The company has mastered scent throw with their candles — it’s enough to fill a room with a subtle, pleasant fragrance without being too overpowering. And with several scent profiles to choose from, it’s easy to find one your favorite new grad will enjoy.

We love the personalization options on Le Labo candles for a few reasons. First, there’s no added cost. Plus, the company offers 23 characters for free personalization, so instead of just a name or initials you could get creative with a phrase like “USC Valedictorian 2024” or “The Best New Nurse” to celebrate a grad’s latest accomplishments. Finally, it’s a small but meaningful customization — special enough for people who love a personal touch but subtle enough for those whose style doesn’t gel with a flashy monogram.

Keep in mind that not all dorms allow candles. For grads headed elsewhere, though, this is a lovely personalized gift that will help their new digs feel like a grown-up home.

Anyday 4-Piece Starter Set  »

Anyday 4-Piece Starter Set

Attention, shoppers who love a deal (and who doesn’t?): for under $75, you can kill two budget birds with one stone with this starter cookware set . First, this incredibly durable, high-quality cookware saves a new grad from buying cheaper versions over and over. Second, you’re making it easier for them to save money by cooking at home, especially since this set is optimized for cooking newbies and for the microwave.

The plastic-free cookware is designed to provide an even cook whether you’re heating up leftovers or fully cooking frozen foods. The tight lids provide optimal steam flow so that all you need is a microwave to perfectly crisp bacon, whip up rice, or steam veggies, all in the microwave. (Steaming fresh broccoli, for instance, takes just three minutes in one of the bowls.) It’s ideal for dorm dwellers who don’t like campus dining options but can’t have a hot plate, or new grads sharing a place with roomies who hog the kitchen. With the set, even grads without much cooking knowledge or kitchen space can prepare a home-cooked meal and not break the budget.

Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones  »

Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones

Post-graduation years aren’t known for their quiet. Whether a fresh grad is off to a bustling dorm or starting a remote job in an apartment full of raucous roomies, chances are there’s going to be a moment they’ll need to block out the chaos with a pair of noise canceling headphones .

New grads probably aren’t going to splurge on headphones for themselves. With tons of cheap, good-enough options available, it’s tough to justify a higher price tag for a top-of-the-line model. That’s exactly why we love spoiling a new grad with a quality pair that truly stands out from competitors. Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones block out ambient sound for actual noise canceling when you need it, while also offering an aware mode for when you’re out and about. And even if your favorite new grad wasn’t that into music or podcasts before, every tune will take on new life with the immersive listening experience this pair provides.

The price tag isn’t in everyone’s budget, but you can rest assured you’re paying for a quality product that’s quite literally quiet luxury.

Brookstone Quzy-Premium Wireless Neck and Shoulder Massager  »

Brookstone Quzy Premium Wireless Neck and Shoulder Massager

Students dedicated enough to continue their education aren’t letting their minds go to rest — but that doesn’t mean their body doesn’t deserve a little break, especially since hunching over laptops and lugging books around campus doesn’t exactly get easier with age.

A neck and shoulder massager can help ease a grad student’s aches and pains as well as their stress about the continued onslaught of schoolwork. You can’t really beat this option from Brookstone. It’s wireless and lasts for about 2.5 hours before needing a charge, so you don’t have to fuss with a cord or sit near a plug as you unwind with the device. The eight massage heads are all heated, and can be used at three different speeds depending on personal preference. It’s powerful, too, accomplishing a deep massage to truly work out pain. Plus, a flexible design makes it easy to use wherever it’s needed, from neck and shoulders to aching feet. All in all, it’s a gift that will help give tired, sore students a few moments of relief.

Lochby Urban Creator Kit  »

Lochby Urban Creator Kit

The last thing you want to do for a creative new grad is give them something that stifles that spirit. Instead, we love a gift that makes it easy for them to keep their creative instincts close, whether or not they’re heading into further education or a career where they’ll get to flex those muscles.

The Urban Creator Kit is a durable, foldable sleeve with included pouches that allow them to keep items like sketchbooks, watercolors, brushes, notebooks, or pens all in one portable place. They can grab it and go, so they’re never without a way to jot down their observations, musings, or sketches about the world around them. Chances are that the creative graduate in your life is a bit of a paper snob, and the five journals included in this kit won’t disappoint. They’re a variety of rulings — dot grid, plain, ruled, planner, and wide-ruled — and high-quality for smooth writing or drawing that won’t bleed to the next page. The kit itself is durable and easy to throw in a purse or backpack, helping artists keep their creative juices flowing no matter their next life steps.

Yogibo Support Pillow  »

Yogibo Support Pillow

Students don’t have a ton of space to get comfortable in a little dorm room, so we love a gift that helps make everything from chilling with friends to getting work done a little easier on the back.

The U-shaped Yogibo Support Pillow simultaneously wraps around and contours to a user’s body, providing them with much needed support as they’re lounging in bed catching up on reading or leaning against the wall of their dorm playing video games with a friend. Its ultra-soft cover comes in a bunch of vibrant colors to match any dorm theme, and can be thrown in the washing machine when the inevitable messes of communal living strike.

Yogibo offers a support “pro” pillow with more head and neck support, but we like that this one can be used backwards to rest a book or laptop for students getting some homework done in bed. And if they decide to invite a bunch of friends to their room for movie night, this pillow can make sitting on the floor a lot more comfortable. Dorm living may not be spacious, but it can be cozy and productive with the help of this pillow.

Tile Mate  »

Tile Mate

Life after school comes with new responsibilities, like keeping track of all your belongings. Nothing will bum out a new grad on a budget more than losing an important item, so help them keep track of their gear with a Tile Mate. All they have to do is attach it to an important item, like their keys, backpack, or a bike. If you know someone who’s heading on a big trip post-graduation, they can even attach it to their luggage if they’re worried about it getting lost or stolen.

The tag sends out a Bluetooth signal that they can then track using a Tile location-finding app. Apple makes their own version of the device, but we like Tile because it’s compatible with Android devices, too, making it a better gift if you don’t know which tech someone prefers.

The handy tracker is just $25. If a new grad uses it to track down an expensive item, it will have already paid for itself — and even if they never have to use it, the peace of mind it provides will be worth more than gold.

Wanderers Travel Co. The Palermo Duffle  »

Wanderers Travel Co. The Palermo Duffle

You might know a new grad with a study abroad or graduation getaway planned, or just someone who’s getting to the age where every weekend is a trip to a friend’s wedding or a work retreat. Wherever they’re going, the Palermo Duffel from Wanderers doesn’t make travelers choose between style and efficiency.

Made of leather that’s chic and slouchy despite its durability, it’s almost certainly an upgrade from whatever backpack or beat-up roller that a new grad might already have. And with three surprisingly roomy sections with nine zippered pockets, it’s the kind of bag that turns even discombobulated travelers into organized ones. The duffel and roller combo is also key. Wheels make it easy for on-the-go travelers to zip through an airport or train station, but it can also be easily picked up as a duffel when navigating tougher terrain like cobblestone streets. Plus, in addition to the standard black or tan, it comes in a few cute colors like burgundy and a teal-ish green.

At $500, the bag isn’t in everyone’s budget. If you’re up to the splurge, though, this is a quality item that a new grad will carry through a lifetime of travel.

Things To Consider When Buying Graduation Gifts

Recipient's Interests and Major

The more you know about a graduate’s schooling history and future goals, the more personal and practical a gift can be. Joyce Gresock, a class of 2024 graduate that we consulted about the best gifts, suggested that everyone consider what’s next for a new grad in order to cater the gifts to items they’ll need.

“Maybe that’s professional clothing, items that would help them build their office, or any other expense they may have. It can be a little off their plate,” she told us.

That means a gift doesn’t need to be frivolous in order to be much appreciated by a new grad. You’ll bring joy and relief if you can finance items that meet their specific needs, whether that’s a set of scrubs for a recent nursing school graduate or travel insurance for a college student’s post-grad trip. In short, you can try to bankroll an item that’s not super cheap but will make a new grad’s life less of a headache.

Practicality and Usability

Grads need new stuff to kick off their new life, and they’ll thank you a million times over in coming years if you give them something they will truly use. A few practical, usable gift ideas include:

  • Professional clothing items and accessories: Think of what they’ll have to wear every day, and what item they might not already have. Depending on profession, potential much-used items could be scrubs, aprons or smocks, a briefcase, warm boots for outdoor work or commutes, or a suit.
  • Tech gear: They probably already have a phone or tablet, but there’s a lot more that makes life easier. Bluetooth speakers, portable or wireless chargers, ring lights, gaming accessories, headphones, power strips, laptop cases, styluses, and other stuff that optimizes tech purchases will all help.
  • Travel assistance: Tons of new grads have a lot of travel coming up. Lessen the financial load by offering airline points, travel insurance, dependable luggage , walking shoes, adaptors, compression socks, or packing cubes.

How We Chose the Best Graduation Gifts

At U.S. News 360 Reviews, we know that the best graduation gifts marry functionality with style. You want to delight a fresh grad with a cool item, while also ensuring they’re set up for success. When selecting the best graduation gifts, we looked at practicality, affordability, versatility, and style, trying to find gifts that new grads would actually want to use as they entered a new phase of their life. We spoke with Joyce Gresock , quickly approaching her graduation from a masters program at the University of North Carolina Greensboro. She shared her insight on the types of gifts she’d like to receive, and the factors anyone can consider to make their gift even better. With all this in mind, we narrowed our search for the best graduation gifts.

Best College Graduation Gifts

When thinking about the perfect gift for young adults graduating college, look for things that will make their life easier as they navigate post-grad life. A meal kit or meal delivery service like Home Chef is an excellent way for them to sharpen their culinary skills, try new recipes, and save time on grocery shopping . If they already have the cooking skills, handy cookware like Our Place’s cult-favorite Always Pan or the Instant Pot is supremely helpful for prepping food after a long day in the real world. Or, if their top priority is caffeination, set them up with a coffee subscription to SELF Fave service Atlas Coffee .

Clothing subscription boxes like Stitch Fix make shopping for office-ready clothes (or work-from-home clothes) seamless. Amazon’s Echo Dot combines the benefits of an alarm clock and a speaker, plus everyone’s favorite, Alexa. For a more unique graduation gift that’s still useful for college grads, look to custom photo art they can display in their new apartment. A big blanket for movie nights or cuddling with their pet is perfect for nights in. And speaking of blankets, upgrading to a high-quality duvet set will help make their bedroom an oasis.

Best High School Graduation Gifts

For the high school graduate who may be on their way to college, technical school, or a different path, say congrats with thoughtful items that recognize their responsibility as young adults. A coffee maker , air fryer , or other small home appliances are excellent ideas for soon-to-be college students gathering supplies for their dorm room. You could also go the route of an Amazon Prime subscription which provides a time-saving way for them to order everything from desk and office supplies to toilet paper, textbooks, and more.

Noise-canceling headphones are always useful, and a set of keepsake photo cards will ensure their friends and family members are always close—even if they’ll be far from home. They might roll their eyes over a book about their new stage of life, but, trust us, they’ll read it eventually and will almost definitely glean some nuggets of wisdom. For a recent grad who’s embarking on a camping adventure or gap year, a gift-box subscription from Nomadik sends boxes that feature gear, snacks, and apparel from popular outdoor brands .

Best Nurse Graduation Gifts and Medical School Graduation Gifts

Graduation presents for future nurses , doctors, and other health care professionals should center around useful self-care products and gadgets that make everyday tasks more efficient. They’ll likely have early mornings and/or late nights, so a trustworthy alarm is a must. We love that the Philips sunrise alarm clock is a gentle wake-up call. A weighted blanket like Layla’s bestselling version and a heated foot massager can help ease tension after a long day. Perhaps you might gift them a high-quality tumbler to replace their leaky coffee mugs and disposable water bottle collection. The Yeti Rambler tumbler can be customized, and it fits into any tote with ease. You might also consider a sleek charging station that charges two devices at once (and serves as a stand for them to take FaceTimes). And, for a personalized gift for the future nurse or doctor in your life, we love a custom badge reel.

A sleep mask can help them wind down at night and, in the morning, an Ember Smart Mug will always ensure their drink is the temperature they like so there’s never lukewarm coffee or tea. The Best Graduation Gift Ideas Will Ease Them Into Whatever’s Next

By Lori Keong

51 Best Graduation Gift Ideas for Every Level of Academia in 2023 Travel Home and Tech Upgrades

The best graduation gift ideas for every kind of graduate are nice enough to help usher them into their next phase of life, realistic to their needs, and ideally something slightly beyond the grasp of a cash-strapped student’s budget. Amazon or Ikea gift cards and wads of cash will never cease to be great gifts for the new grad you don’t want to shoehorn with personalized jewelry or a tie. And yet, it never hurts to turn up to a graduation party with something physical that you’ve thought out.

For grad gifts, now’s the time to shell out for an elevated version of something they need, like new linens and tech accessories, or some high-quality life investment that they may never have considered, like a souped-up steamer or charging device that they can pack up and carry from place to place. Celebratory niceties and life-enhancing subscriptions are also well-deserved for any graduate, especially if they’ve been footing the bill for student loans.

Here, we’ve assembled some of the best graduation gift ideas for everyone on your list, whether they’re leaving the nest after their high school graduation, a recent college grad who’s heading into the real world or back into school, or perhaps just toiled their way through a secondary degree—from travel essentials for post-grad gap years to useful home and cooking tools that can upgrade any dorm room or sad first sublet.

Securing a degree is always worth celebrating, but the past few graduating classes have overcome more than the standard all-nighters and strict professors. After dealing with an ongoing pandemic, remote learning, and the rising prices of everything from food to fuel, the graduates of 2024 have succeeded against all odds.

It may feel tough to find a gift that perfectly summarizes how proud of them you are, but we've compiled a list that might help. There are gifts for their first grown-up job, a move to a new city, or some well-deserved summer relaxation as they plot their next adventure. Don't see anything here you like? Check out our other buying guides , like the Best Laptop Backpacks , Best Electric Scooters , Best Electric Bikes , and Best Cheap Headphones .

Updated May 2024: We added the newest versions of all our favorite recommendations.

Special offer for Gear readers: Get a 1-year subscription to WIRED for $5 ($25 off) . This includes unlimited access to WIRED. com and our print magazine (if you’d like). Subscriptions help fund the work we do every day.

A Cash Gift

There was nothing I needed more than cash after spending every dime on college textbooks and food for four years, with a lifetime of student loans to look forward to. If you aren't in the same place to be able to physically hand cash or a check to the new grads in your life, consider GiftCast. It's a simple app that lets you virtually gift-wrap your cash with a heartfelt video message and a promise to see them in person as soon as you can. WIRED reviewers have also used and liked services such as Givingli .

★  Gift cards are great, too: A gift card to somewhere like Amazon or Target lets them pick exactly what they want or need for the next phase in life. Other useful options include Grubhub for easy dinners, or a membership to a big box store like Costco .

A Great Leather Purse

Whether your college grad is starting a job in the big city or their local school system, they need a bag that functions as well as it looks and will actually last. Cuyana's System Tote is our favorite laptop tote . It has a simple but elegant design and works with a system of add-ons that snap in for customized organization, like a laptop sleeve , organizational insert , or zippered pouch .

Cuyana has a bunch of other designs, but all are quite pricey. For a little bit less, Longchamp's Le Pliage is a classic that's durable and spacious, and also zips shut. Our favorite one is made from recycled canvas. See our full guide on laptop totes and purses for even more designs and styles.

Or an All-Purpose Backpack

Rains' Backpack Mini is the most stylish pick in our Best Laptop Backpacks guide . It's available in a wide range of colors, and the 8.5-liter capacity offers enough room to stash a laptop in addition to accessories, chargers, and other odds and ends. The elegant design will ensure your college grad won't look like a kid when they commute to their new grown-up job—or that your high school grad won't look like a kid when they head to college classes. (There's also a large version if they tend to pack a lot.)

Ambient Lighting for Their New Home

Smart light panels are great for setting the vibe in a new dorm room. Our top pick , the Nanoleaf Triangles, can be rearranged to create all sorts of shapes. There are tons of color combinations and modes—for example, a party-friendly setting that'll pulse the lights to the beat of music, or a daylight setting to get grads through short winter days. Nanoleaf has tons of other designs we like, like the Nanoleaf Lines . Don't forget to check out our guide to the Best Smart Lighting for more options.

Plants in pots

A Plant Subscription Box

Flowers are a nice thought for events and milestones, but plants can potentially last years, as grads go from first apartment to second, and from entry-entry level job to executive office. Horti sends a plant and pot in each box, as well as other accessories occasionally. You can choose between pet-friendly or beginner plants or opt for Horti's pick. A subscription starts at $28 a month with a plain terracotta pot, or more if you want a painted pot. There are a few subscription options you can choose from if you'd rather pay upfront instead of month-to-month.

Subscription boxes make great gifts because it's literally the gift that keeps giving, with a new surprise every month you’re signed up for. We have a bunch of recommendations for all types of personalities.

Black tablet propped up on kitchen counter with drawing of a coffee machine on the screen and digital pens in front

For the Artist

Is your recent grad a photo editor, graphic designer, or digital artist who would really benefit from a dedicated drawing tablet ? The Wacom One 13 Touch ( 8/10, WIRED Recommends ) is our favorite for most situations. It has a bright 13-inch screen for accurate colors, and the stylus precision rivals that of more expensive drawing tablets. It's not wireless, though, and needs to be plugged in to a computer via USB-C cable.

Dyson Airwave curling wand and attachments

A Luxury Hair Tool

Giving the gift of good hair means your new college graduate can start all meetings, appointments, and dates on the right foot. Dyson's Airwrap is coveted for its luxury and multiple uses—you can dry your hair , blow it out, or curl it (or do all three!). But that luxury also comes with the Dyson price tag, which is why it'd be a great gift to receive.

Image may contain Box Cardboard Carton and Package Delivery

Literally Everything

Two things are genuine markers of adulthood these days: getting your own Netflix account and getting your own Amazon Prime subscription. The benefits of Amazon Prime are legion , from free shipping and access to Prime Video to exclusive savings on Prime-only products. Your recent graduate's student discount may be disappearing, but you can save the day by gifting them another year. This is the graduation gift that keeps on giving. They will likely save the money several times over.

Astrohaus Freewrite Traveler

A Modern-Day Typewriter

Writing is hard. Writing when you're barraged by distracting notifications is even harder. If your graduate will be writing for a living, the Freewrite Traveler ( 8/10, WIRED Recommends ) might make an excellent gift. It serves a simple purpose, offering users a blank text field and a keyboard. The recipient will be able to work on their novel or type up a cover letter, free from tempting web links or distracting advertisements. Unlike on typewriters of the past, drafts can be uploaded to services like Google Docs or Evernote with a simple keystroke. Another key difference is that the Freewrite Traveler doesn't weigh a gajillion pounds—the entire device folds down flat and weighs less than 2 pounds.

Leatherman Wave MultiTool

A Great Multi-Tool

Multi-tools aren't just for outdoorsy folks or handymen. They open up the world of ease to the rest of us, and Leatherman makes the best. The Wave Plus has two stainless steel knives and 16 other handy tools like a file, scissors, bottle and can openers, and an 8-inch ruler. With its 25-year warranty, the company will repair it too.

Sony WH1000MX5 headphones

Luxury Headphones

The WH-1000XM5 wireless headphones ( 9/10, WIRED Recommends ) have long been a favorite of ours . They have some of the best sound quality we've heard, with 30 hours of battery life and the ability to automatically pause the music if they sense you talking.

If you're gifting to an Apple fanatic and you can stomach the cost, the Apple AirPods Max ( 8/10, WIRED Recommends ) deliver great sound and style. But don't worry, we have plenty of cheap picks too.

A Pair of Smart Glasses

We admit that our first review of the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses was skeptical ( 6/10, WIRED Review ). However, several WIRED staff members have since purchased both the sunglasses and the clear prescription versions and love being able to take calls and listen to audio without having to put on yet another pair of earbuds or headphones. The glasses also now come in a wider variety of styles , can be ordered in a clear prescription version , and weigh (and cost) only a fraction more than than regular specs.

Rectangular bin with black lid white middle and black base beside a circular robot vacuum docked at the bottom

For Automated Cleaning

A vacuum is not the most exciting gift, but hear us out. It's likely that a new graduate will be moving into an apartment or house, and they'll probably be busy with a new adult job. In that case, a robot vacuum can pick up the cleaning slack.

Using the app, you can control the Tapo RV30C to start cleaning even if you aren't home, choose which room, or set schedules so it does a sweep each day. It returns to its base to automatically empty the dustbin. It's one of the prettiest new robot vacuums we've seen, too.

Image may contain Transportation Vehicle Bike Bicycle Wheel Machine and Mountain Bike

An Electric Bike

An electric bike or scooter can make a big difference to a recent high school graduate who has to figure out how to move around a new campus or city. The Trek FX+ 2 ( 8/10, WIRED Recommends ) is our pick for most people . It doesn't really look like an e-bike, thanks to the cables, battery, and motor hidden inside the frame, but it will get you through a commute without constant recharges. There's some fun extras like lights and a bell, too. It's not the lightest bike we've tried, but at 40 pounds, it also isn't heavy.

Unagi Model One Voyager scooter

An Electric Scooter

If your recent graduate doesn't know how to bike, we also love electric scooters . The Unagi Model One Voyager ( 8/10, WIRED Recommends ) is our lightweight pick. It's just 30 pounds, but you can still cruise at 15 miles per hour. Riders will likely get a bit more than 10 miles out of a charge, but since it's not too heavy and folds up, it's easily paired with public transportation if necessary. Make sure you get them a helmet , too.

Mila Dumpling Box packaging

For Easy Meals

Sometimes cooking is exhausting. MìLà's soup dumplings are noodles are delicious and take precisely zero cooking skills to perfect. The founders of MìLà have a restaurant in Washington, and they ship their already popular soup dumplings, flash-freezing them while raw to keep the authentic taste. The quality is obvious. If you can, sending the full experience box allows your recent grad to try one bag of pork dumplings, a noodle variety box, three dipping sauces, a bamboo steamer, and rose lychee ice cream.

Logitech Pro Wheel and Seat sim racing setup

A Racing Setup

This is a lot of money to drop on gaming accessories (and it's even more expensive than when we first reviewed it). But if you can afford it and your giftee loves sim racing, then they'll very much love this . They can decompress after work by feeling like they're actually racing alongside their favorite F1 driver. You can use the wheels and pedals alone as long as they have a desk that the wheel can clamp onto, but adding the seat gives it more of a real-world feel.

White and silver espresso machine with a nozzle and handle protruding

A Coffee Upgrade

If your grad loves their cup of joe, give them a coffee upgrade. KitchenAid's Semi Automatic Espresso Machine is one of our favorites . The grinder is whisper quiet, and the machine makes great espresso with perfectly frothed milk. It looks great too, especially in white, and has extra features like wheels for moving it out of the way when you aren't using it.

Black pitcher with coffee inside and pump up top

If They Prefer a French Press

An espresso machine is luxurious if your giftee will use it, but a French press is easy, low-maintenance, and hard to mess up. It takes up less room and doesn't even need to be plugged in. We love the Clara because of its minimalist modern design that's shatter-resistant. It also comes with one more filter than most French presses. One pushes the grind down and the other catches any stray sediment. Our morning coffee tasted smoother, with not a hint of bitterness.

Briggs Riley Baseline luggage

A Forever Suitcase

Set your new graduate up for a lifetime of travel with this suitcase that's lasted us well over 20 years. It's made from water-repellent and abrasion-resistant ballistic nylon, and the low-profile wheels and handles are still going strong. There's a lifetime warranty, so should anything go wrong, they can visit a Briggs & Riley–approved dealership for free fixes. It's heavy, though, at 9.3 pounds.

Person wearing the Apple Watch Series 9

A Smartwatch for iPhone Users

At one time, fancy analog watches would have been a top graduation gift. They still can be for the right person, but your giftee might prefer the usefulness of a smartwatch. The Series 9 ( 7/10, WIRED Recommends ) is our favorite for Apple fans. It has wonderful health tracking features and a spate of safety tools, like fall detection and the option for automated emergency calls. This one also can quickly process Siri requests on the device. Read more about it in our Best Apple Watches guide .

Person wearing the Samsung Galaxy Watch6

A Smartwatch for Android Users

The Galaxy Watch6 and Watch6 Classic ( 7/10, WIRED Recommends ) will work for any Android user, but they're best paired with Samsungs, since certain health data only works with those phones. They look more like a traditional watch than Apple Watches do, and the Classic has a rotating bezel for scrolling through menus—it has the same satisfaction of putting in your school locker combination (without having to remember numbers).

For other Android users, we like the Google Pixel Watch 2 ( 7/10, WIRED Recommends ), which is beautiful, comfortable, and has a speedy processor to crunch all their fitness data.

Hamilton Khaki Field Automatic watch

Or a Mechanical Watch

Smartwatches do tend to be more popular, but an analog watch is a classic gift—even if it's just for the occasional dressing up. We like this watch for its military look with a stealthy black coating. It's water resistant up to 100 meters and it gets an impressive 80-hour power reserve.

Keychron Q1 Pro keyboard

If They Work From Home

When you work in an office, you're generally provided with monitors and keyboards, but if you work from home, you shouldn't have to suffer. The Keychron Q1 Pro mechanical keyboard is our gift recommendation for those who work from home. It has satisfying clickety-clackety switches for long typing sessions, and there's a programmable knob that your giftee can set for volume control, zooming in and out of projects, plus other options.

Three Herman Miller Zeph office chairs in different colors

An Aesthetic Office Chair

The Herman Miller Zeph is an aesthetically-pleasing office chair upgrade, whether your giftee is working from home full time or needs a place to sit while they write their novel. The Zeph is shaped to mold around your body, so despite its lack of adjustability, both our 6'4 and 5'1 testers found it comfortable. We recommend adding the arms and seat pad for the most comfort, but that does raise the price.

Amazon Kindle Paperwhite

Distraction-Free Reading

Bookish grads will appreciate the Kindle Paperwhite, which is the Best Kindle for most people. The e-reader interface is simple and straightforward. With no intrusive vibrations, notifications, or inane newsfeeds to scroll through, Kindle enthusiasts find these devices to be a much better option than phones for distraction-free reading. Analog books are still a thing, of course, but you can't carry 1,000 of them around in your pocket. The Paperwhite is waterproof for reading beside the pool or in the tub and the Signature edition gets adjustable warm light to ensure maximum visibility at night. There are many free or cheap ebooks available online, but if your grad is a particularly voracious reader , you may want to consider including an ebook or audiobook subscription .

Do they enjoy jotting down notes all the time? Consider the newer Kindle Scribe ( 8/10, WIRED Recommends ), which is much more expensive but it doubles as a notepad and comes with a stylus. The Kobo Libra Colour ( 8/10, WIRED Recommends ) also has note-taking abilities with a great color E Ink screen.

Image may contain Book Human Person Text and Sitting

For Digital Notes

If they need more digital notebook than e-reader, the ReMarkable 2 is our favorite option . The matte screen feels like paper, there's little lag while writing on it, and the battery lasts for several weeks. On the device, you can organize your work into notebooks and sort them all with tags and folders and then export them to Google Drive or Dropbox. There's also a keyboard attachment that we haven't tried, but it will help during particularly heavy note-taking sessions.

Collage of photographs of the Lamy 2000 fountain pen and attachments.

A Keepsake Pen

A good fountain pen is a classic graduation gift, and the Lamy 2000 is one of our favorites. Whether your giftee likes to hand write poems and journal entries, or keeps track of all their new daily tasks with a paper planner , they can do so with the luxurious 14-carat gold nib that surfs effortlessly across the page. Pair it with our favorite ink for a truly satisfying experience.

Happy Planner

A Setup for Success

Everyone can benefit from a good paper planner, but that's especially true for young adults entering the workforce. The Happy Planner is one of our favorites . It's affordable, customizable, and suitable for beginners as well as experts. Whether they're keeping track of deadlines, interviews, monthly payments, or their five-year plan, graduates will be able to stay on top of life's endless to-do lists.

Image may contain Mat and Rug

A Recycled Workout Mat

Establishing a new workout routine after graduating from high school or college doesn't have to be difficult. It can be as easy as a few pushups in the morning or a 15-minute walk around the block. Cassey Ho , from the wildly popular Blogilates fitness platform, recommends starting with a simple yoga mat to anchor your new grad's working-out-at-home routine. It will also dampen the sound of their footfalls for any downstairs neighbors.

Homemade Simple cookbook cover

A Simple Cookbook

Help your new college graduate embark on the next phase of their adult life by giving them a jumpstart in the kitchen with an easy, simple cookbook . Some days you just feel uninspired in the kitchen, and other day, you only have so much time. This collection of recipes has delicious, varied recipes that don't require much effort, and it includes estimated prep times as well as cook times.

Image may contain Accessories Tie Accessory and Necktie

A Picnic Blanket

Is your new grad planning a big trip for the summer? I own two of these, and they're particularly versatile and useful gifts. These unbelievably soft, warm blankets are made from 100 percent post-consumer recycled polyester material with a durable water-repellent finish to fend off dirt and prevent stains. I've used mine for everything from impromptu picnics and warming up on the couch to an emergency layer after the car broke down on a snowy day. WIRED reviews editor Julian Chokkattu used it as a blanket on his road trip in Iceland. They pack down into a small compression sack for easy storage.

Bearaby Tree Napper braided weighted blanket

An On-Demand Hug

Nothing signals adulthood like random existential crises. Weighted blankets can help squish away bad feelings. There are tons of good choices available, but this is our absolute favorite . It's satisfyingly heavy, cooling, and one of the prettiest weighted blankets around. Read our Best Weighted Blankets guide for other options, as well as advice on what weight works best. While they can help with some symptoms, remember that weighted blankets are not a substitute for medical treatment.

Dash mini waffle maker in red

A Compact Countertop Appliance

We love waffle makers . So will your grad. They've likely seen a tiny model from Dash already, since it went viral on TikTok , but even newcomers will have a blast making single-serve waffles with this gadget. For something a bit more robust, this Black and Decker Waffle Maker may suffice. Neither will take up too much space on compact counters, and both are capable of making magical creations out of everything from potatoes to pie. Pair the maker with this cookbook for an easy, surprisingly useful gift.

Bag of Mistobox coffee beans

A Coffee Subscription

Nickel and dime expenses like a daily café run can add up—especially for a grad living on an entry-level salary. A coffee subscription, like Mistobox, can make a difference. There are more than 500 coffee options to choose from, so even the most discerning drinkers will be able to enjoy this gift. Check out our Best Coffee Subscription Services guide for more.

Cats and dog sitting on Mau Cento Cat Tree

Fancy Furniture for Their Cat

Cat parents might tell you that they wouldn't have gotten through those late-night study sessions and term papers without their felines by their side. Perhaps they too deserve a fancy graduation present. Mau's Cento cat tree is pricey, but it's one of the best cat trees we've tried. Not only is it very pretty—and when you live in a small space, everything's design matters—but it's well made, with replaceable parts . Our cats loved lounging on it.

The 55 Best Gifts for Travel Lovers in 2024

Peruse these practical and thoughtful gift ideas for every traveler on your list.

travel graduation gifts

Travel + Leisure / Kristin Kempa

Shopping for your travel-loving friends and family can be tricky — after all, you’ll want to ensure you’re picking up something practical, but you also don’t want to gift them something they already have. It’s also worth considering that frequent travelers, especially digital nomads, tend to live a more minimalist life. This means practical gear will reign supreme over more frivolous items.

You’ll also want to take into account the kind of travel your favorite globetrotters or influencers are into. City explorers or luxury-leaning travelers, for example, probably won’t want the same gear as someone who spends their PTO hiking and trekking through the wilderness.

The following options were hand-picked by our team to suit every type of traveler and vacationer on your list. We’ve extensively researched (or personally tested) all of the following gifts to ensure your purchase will make a thoughtful and genuinely practical addition to your loved one’s travels. Here are the best gifts travelers will love — for all budgets and needs.

Paravel Passport Case

If your favorite travelers don’t already have a high-quality passport cover, you might want to consider the Paravel Cabana Passport Case. The elegant leather case can even be personalized with a hand-painted monogram or custom graphic to add another layer of elegance. We also like that this option has an abundance of pockets and card slots to make organization easier.

Boka Fresh on the Go

The Boka Fresh on the Go set was made for travelers who avoid checking a bag at all costs. It includes everything they’ll need to maintain good oral hygiene while on the go. The toothpaste is TSA-approved and the mouthwash — this is the best part — comes in the form of chewable tablets, so it won’t even count toward their liquid quota.

Jamaica Vibes

Jamaica Vibes is one of the latest in the Assouline coffee table book family — and possibly one of the most fun options to date. The stunning visual-first book will allow travelers to reminisce about any time spent in Jamaica (or dream about future trips) while the cover and spine of the book will add a dose of elegant and trendy style to coffee tables and bookshelves.

Contiki Tour

You can’t go wrong with the gift of travel itself. If you’re looking for a big-ticket experience gift for a younger traveler in your life, look no further than a Contiki tour. The pre-packaged trips will take them all over the world with like-minded young people and range from exploring the Garden Route in South Africa to road-tripping through the Balkans.

Epicka Universal Travel Adapter

Sure, a travel adapter might not immediately come off as the most exciting gift. But any traveler will tell you just how valuable a reliable one really is. The Epicka Universal Travel Adapter is the best travel adapter in our book; it works in more than 150 countries and it’s super compact and easy to pack thanks to the modular design. Plus, you can always pair it with a flashier item like a travel-themed phone case .

SereneLife Inflatable Stand Up Paddle Board

 Amazon

The SereneLife Stand-up Paddle Board is an excellent option for anyone who wants to bring the spirit of resort life home. We tested out a variety of inflatable paddle boards and our team agrees that this is the best board on the market thanks to the lightweight, portable design and impressive stability in the water.

LARQ Bottle PureVis

The Larq Self-cleaning Water Bottle is a true game changer for all kinds of travelers. The smart bottle uses UV technology to not just disinfect itself but also to purify the water you’re drinking. This means the jetsetter you’re shopping for will be able to comfortably drink from most water sources without worrying about getting sick.

Tommy Bahama Backpack Beach Chair

The Tommy Bahama Backpack Beach Chair is simply the best beach chair around — and it makes a great gift for road-trippers and camping enthusiasts alike. It’s super easy to transport thanks to the folding backpack design, and is surprisingly comfortable due to the adjustable head pillow and elongated seat. We also like that the frame is rust-proof, meaning it’s perfect for using at the beach or in the rain.

Intelligent Change Inc. The Five Minute Journal

Sometimes, it can be hard to live in the moment and absorb all the magic that is travel — but a gratitude journal can help ensure your globetrotter stays centered on the go. The Five Minute Journal takes, as advertised, takes just five minutes of a traveler’s time; but jotting down their thoughts for those few minutes will help them remember and appreciate the most exciting parts of their day while traveling or at home.

Andobil Car Phone Holder Mount

The best car phone holder mount in our book is the Andobil Car Phone Holder Mount, and it’ll make a great gift for road trippers and car commuters. It’s super easy to install and, once set up, is incredibly stable and easy to use while on the go. There’s also space to plug in a charger so drivers won’t have to mess around with their phone just to get some juice.

Puffer Hug 418 Scarf

Think of the Puffer Hug 418 Scarf as a stylish and equally practical alternative to the fishing vest. Hear us out: this cozy accessory serves as a regular scarf but also has tons of pockets for things like a smartphone or passport. It’s great for wearing to the airport when you need to have documents at the ready but is equally sensible for wearing to explore a new city.

Slip Silk Skinny Scrunchies

The Slip Pure Silk 4-pack Skinny Scrunchies is a fail-safe gift for travelers who want to care for their hair while they're away. The silk design is gentle on the hair and is designed to not pull or cause breakage, even with regular use. We also really like the elegant patterns and colors of the scrunchies, which can easily double as cute arm candy among a stack of bracelets.

Vinarmour Travel Wine Carrier

Wine-loving travelers will flip for the Vinarmour Travel Wine Carrier. This stunning carrier is designed to transport a bottle of wine without any risk of breakage. It features sufficient padding to keep the bottle safe while in transit, but it’s also made from leak-proof material — so even if the bottle was already damaged and cracks while in cargo, it won’t spill on the rest of your luggage.

The Harmonist Travel Coffret

The Harmonist

The Harmonist Travel Coffret is a game-changer when it comes to feeling fresh and relaxed in transit. The set of three heavily-concentrated perfumes were designed to foster a sense of calmness and relaxation thanks to the various notes, including patchouli, pomelo, Bulgarian rose, and vanilla. It also comes with a striking travel case to keep the vials safe in transit.

Twelve South AirFly Pro

The Twelve South AirFly Pro is a T+L editor favorite and such an easy way to upgrade the economy experience. This handy little device allows travelers to use their own Bluetooth headphones or earbuds with the inflight entertainment system rather than having to use the sub-par freebies provided by the airline. The AirFly is super easy to use as well — all you have to do is plug it into the headphone jack on the plane and pair it with your headphones.

Four Seasons Velvet Slippers

Four Seasons

There’s something inherently luxurious about slipping into a pair of hotel slippers upon check in — and the Four Seasons Velvet Slippers amplify that feeling and bring it home. These stunning slippers are made in Italy from sleek velvet and cotton with the Four Seasons logo embroidered on the top. The elastic back and rubber sole make them appropriate for both indoor and outdoor use.

Birdie Personal Safety Alarm

Here’s one for the solo women travelers on your list. The She's Birdie Personal Safety Alarm is designed to fit incognito in her handbag or pocket — but if she finds herself in any kind of trouble, it’s easy to grab and sound the alarm to draw attention and deter an attack. All she has to do is pull off the top tab to activate the 130-decibel siren and flashing strobe light.

Dagne Dover Tech Organizer

Dagne Dover

Nobody thinks they need a tech organizer while traveling, but when you take into account all the cables and adapters required to make international travel smooth, having a specific spot to keep everything untangled is major. The Dagne Dover Arlo Tech Organizer is small enough to pop into a carry-on but has plenty of interior space to store everything a traveler needs.

Lindsay Albanese Toptote Leather Hat Holder

Traveling with a cute hat seems like a great idea, but in practice it can be a bit of a pain. The Lindsay Albanese Toptote Leather Hat Holder allows travelers to bring along a wide-brim hat without having to wear it the entire commute or risking it getting crushed in a suitcase. The clip attaches to the brim of a hat and the built-in carabiner lets you pop it onto a handbag or carry-on for a hands-free solution.

Diptyque Travel Cleansing & Moisturizing Set

This cleansing and moisturizing set will be a welcome addition to any routine whether at home or on the go. The decadent set includes both rinse-free and regular hand wash as well as a moisturizing hand lotion — all of which smell just like your favorite luxury hotel bath products. We also like that this option comes with a cute carrying case that makes it easy to store the items in a handbag or carry-on.

Vasco V4 Language Translator Device

World travelers always have a few favorite travel products they swear by. For traveling abroad, the Vasco V4 Language Translator Device makes the experience so much easier — not just on the traveler but on the locals as well. This genius device provides instant voice translation in 108 languages and comes with free lifetime internet to ensure it’ll always be functional anywhere in the world. The instant translations mean your traveling pal can have real-time conversations with people across the globe, even if there’s no common spoken language.

Pokoloko Harem Towel

The Pokoloko Harem Towel is handcrafted using 100 percent Turkish cotton by artisans in Turkey — and it’s the perfect beach bag essential. It’s very lightweight and rolls down much smaller than the average towel. However, it’s also incredibly absorbent and quick-drying, so travelers can pop it back into their beach bag at the end of the day without worrying about lugging home a soggy towel.

lululemon Everywhere Belt Bag 1L

It’s called the Everywhere Belt Bag for a reason! This Lululemon staple has quickly become a cult classic for travelers (it has quite literally been everywhere this year). The adjustable belt bag is super convenient for everything from hiking to exploring cities hands-free, and the durable nylon material means you won’t have to worry about potential spillage or getting stuck in the rain (it’ll wipe clean with a bit of water).

Longchamp Le Pliage Filet Mesh Bag

Regular travelers know the importance of throwing a decent-sized tote into their luggage. After all, you never know when you’ll need the extra bit of space while on the road. The Longchamp Le Pliage Filet L Mesh Bag offers a sophisticated take on the humble mesh tote complete with a snap closure and both a top handle and shoulder strap for added versatility.

Conair Travel Garment Dual Voltage Steamer

The Conair Power Steam Handheld Travel Garment Steamer makes looking and feeling put together on the road a snap. The compact steamer is small enough to slip into a carry-on bag and pull out as needed while traveling. It boasts a 35-second heat-up time so the traveler in your life can power away wrinkles and creases in no time at all.

YETI Roadie 24 Cooler

The Yeti Roadie 24 Hard Cooler will be well received by the road trip warriors and beach bums on your list. Not only is it super aesthetically pleasing, but it can also actually fit an incredible amount in such a compact space — we’re talking up to 33 cans, 26 pounds of ice, and even full-sized bottles of wine.

Loop Quiet Ear Plugs

You don’t quite realize how high-quality the Loop Quiet earplugs are until you really need them. The surprisingly stylish earplugs were designed to be comfortable while sleeping and will serve as a major blessing the next time your gift recipient has been put in a hotel room next to a crying baby or bachelorette party.

Paravel Mini Fold-up Backpack

The Paravel Mini Fold-Up Backpack earned the top spot in our books as the best mini backpack of 2024 , and it’s easy to see why. It’s easy to fit all the essentials — think a tablet, a wallet, sunscreen, and shoes — but it also folds down into the size of a wallet when not in use, which makes it great for tucking into a carry-on bag in case of emergencies. We also love that this bag has the option to be monogrammed, making your gift all the more thoughtful.

Béis The Cosmetic Case

We love Béis for its cheeky and innovative take on travel accessories — and the Cosmetic Case in particular is one of our top picks of the year for best makeup cases . We love that this option is highly durable but still elegant in design and also has a generous-sized built-in mirror that makes it easy to do makeup or skincare while on the go. It’s also worth noting that this case is available in eight different colorways, so you can choose one that’ll best suit their specific style.

Paravel Aviator Carry-on Plus

If the traveler on your list is in need of a new carry-on, you’ll want to consider the Paravel Aviator Carry-on Plus. This innovative carry-on bag earned top marks in our books as the best piece of luxury luggage thanks to its super sturdy build and variety of organization options within the luggage. It’s also worth noting that all carriers are ethically produced — which makes this a great gift for conscious travelers as well.

Baggu Nylon Crescent Bag

We love a crossbody bag for travel — and the Baggu Nylon Crest Bag is definitely the top crossbody bag of the year in our books. We love just how versatile this bag is and how easily it can be packed into a suitcase without adding any bulk or weight. The crossbody bag is also highly durable and even machine washable, which is a huge perk for travelers who don’t want to have to baby their accessories while on the go.

Awake Caffeinated Chocolate Energy Bar

Frequent flyers know the perils of trying to get a good cup of coffee on an airplane or in an airport — which is why the Awake Caffeinated Chocolate Energy Bites are such a game changer for caffeine-loving travelers. The tasty chocolate bites have the caffeine equivalent of half a cup of coffee, and also offer a sweet sugar kick that’ll help them get through everything from red-eye flights to long layovers.

Nitecore MT21C Flashlight

You might not immediately think of a flashlight as a standout gift for a traveler — but a rechargeable flashlight is a packing essential for travelers who do any kind of adventure or outdoor traveling. The Nitecore MT21C Flashlight is one T+L editors swear by thanks to its compact size, impressive brightness, and longevity (it has a maximum output of 1000 lumens and a peak beam distance of 201 yards). It’s also adjustable by 90 degrees which can be highly practical for getting into tight spaces.

Moon Dissolving Whitening Strips

There’s something about indulging in a self-care routine while flying that can make an economy seat feel like you’re sitting in first class — and what could be more luxurious than whitening your teeth while on the go? The MOON Teeth Whitening Strips were designed to be used while traveling, the strips work the same as your classic Crest variety, but all you have to do is stick them on and wait for them to dissolve — no sink or rinsing required.

Amazon Fire HD 10 Tablet

Sure — most airplanes have built-in in-flight entertainment, but boy does it suck when you board a flight only to realize there’s no screen on the seat back. The Amazon Fire HD 10 Tablet will let them download all their favorite shows and movies to watch on the flight. It’s also great for reading e-books or checking into social media while in transit.

Aer Travel Weekender

Aer

The Aer Travel Weekender is our favorite carry-on duffel bag right now thanks to its versatility and durable design. We like that this bag can easily be used as a top-handle tote, but that it also has a built-in strap that makes it easy to use as a duffel bag while on the go. It’s worth noting that the bag also has a 16-inch padded laptop sleeve, which means they’ll be able to keep their laptop or tablet safe and secure while traveling.

Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 3

A portable speaker makes a great addition to any traveler’s packing list. Not only does it ensure the vibes will be good no matter where they find themselves, it’s also a great tool for playing white noise and making it easier to fall asleep in unfamiliar places. We highly recommend the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 3; this one is super easy to connect to any phone and is both waterproof and dustproof — so they won’t have to be precious with it while traveling.

nCamp Café Portable Coffee Maker

If you’ve got a coffee lover on your list, the nCamp Café Portable Coffee Maker is going to be a game changer in terms of the quality of their morning joe. This compact coffee maker is especially great to bring on camping trips because it crafts espresso-style coffee without any power source. The only thing they’ll need is a hot water source and they’ll have cafe-quality brew wherever they go (which, let’s be honest, will also save them a ton of money on morning coffee).

Nintendo Switch

Travel can be endlessly thrilling and entertaining — but there’s a lot of downtime that comes with it as well. A Nintendo Switch is going to make a great gift for the gamers on your list (or those traveling with little ones). The beauty of the Switch is that they’ll be able to use it as a handheld to pass the time at airports or train stations, but it can also be set up television-style to play party games at the hotel room or Airbnb.

Infinity Pillow Travel Pillow

Infinity Pillow

Unless you’re lucky enough to get a miraculous upgrade to business class, sleeping on a plane can be a struggle. That’s where the Infinity Pillow Travel Pillow comes in. This innovative pillow was designed with neck support and can be adapted to work whether they’re in the window, aisle, or even the middle seat.  It’s also temperature regulating, so it won’t make them sweaty mid-flight, and doubles as an eye mask.

Call You When I Land: A Memoir

Travel writer and author Nikki Vargas spares no detail in her evocative memoir Call You When I Land , which follows Vargas as she relentlessly pursues her dream career, and in turn, dream lifestyle. The juicy travelogue is ideal for fans of Eat Pray Love or What I Was Doing While You Were Breeding . Oh — and there’s a love story and murder mystery baked into it as well. Can you say beach read?

Nimble Champ Portable Charger

It doesn’t matter how streamlined their travel is — every traveler struggles with having juice for all their devices while on the go. Sometimes it’s a lack of adequate adapters, and sometimes it’s long excursions with no charging outlet in sight. Either way, a decent portable charger just makes things easier. We love the Nimble Champ Portable Charger in particular. It’s compact and durable, but it’s also eco-friendly having been crafted in part from recycled water bottles.

Slip Lovely Lashes Contour Sleep Mask

Traveling without a sleep mask sucks — especially if you’re sensitive to light or plan to sleep on the plane. The Slip Lovely Lashes Contour Sleep Mask in particular is an awesome gift and great alternative to the classic eye mask model. It’s crafted from real silk, so it won’t pull or mess up their hair. It also has a contoured eye area so it won’t squish their eyes or lashes, even if they use it all night long.

Away The Insider Packing Cubes

Away The Insider Packing Cubes are a game changer for travelers who want to pack light and travelers who like to pack more than they might need. For starers, these packing cubes allow them to organize their clothing by categories, which allows them to have a better grasp on exactly what they have. The cubes also gently compress clothing which makes it easy to fit everything into a carry-on or smaller-sized suitcase as needed.

Skyborne iTravel Folio 4.0

Staying organized and on the ball on travel days makes the whole experience go much smoother — and that’s why we love the Skyborne iTravel Folio 4.0. This sleek travel wallet is designed to fit all their travel documents (including passport, smartphone, AirPods, and more) in one stylish zippered wallet. It also has built-in charging capabilities to keep their electronics juiced up, no matter where they are.

Rewined Bordeaux Candle

If they’re always waxing poetic about their trip to wine country, why not gift them an olfactory memory of their time? The Bordeaux Candle by Rewined comes as an homage to the French countryside with notes of Maritime Pine, Crushed Herbs, and Cypress that are designed to transport them right back to the vineyards of Bordeaux. Rewined’s candles are also beautifully made and will look just as good as they smell on a coffee table or kitchen counter.

Pocket Tripod Universal Kit

Pocket Tripod

Let’s be honest: no matter how cool we think we are, everyone wants to get some good photos to share on social media (or to look back on) while traveling. The Pocket Tripod Universal Kit is a super compact and discreet alternative to the larger tripods on the market. It’s about the size of a credit card and is easy to pop onto a smartphone for an instant tripod, wherever they find themselves.

Foreo Luna Mini 2 Facial Cleansing Brush

Traveling can wreak some serious havoc on the skin — which is why skincare-loving travelers (and really anyone who likes a clean face!) will flip for the FOREO LUNA Mini. This innovative skincare tool uses T-sonic pulsations to clean the skin, brushing away any traces of makeup, dirt, or acne-causing bacteria that might be lurking on their face after a long flight or day of exploration.

Audible Membership

If you’re shopping for a traveler who is big on podcasts or listening to audio books while on the go, a subscription to Audible is pretty much a no-brainer. This subscription will get them one free audiobook per month and allow them to listen to all kinds of different books at their own pace while traveling. It’s also a great alternative to packing various books or having to remember an e-reader; all their audiobooks will be accessible right on their smartphone or tablet!

The Essential Guide to Turkish Wine

The Essential Guide to Turkish Wine by wine writer and author Andrea Lemieux is the only English-language anthology you’ll find sharing the ins and outs of Turkish wine. Turkey is one of the oldest wine-producing countries in the world, and Lemieux’s comprehensive guide will inspire them to book a trip to the wine trail of Turkey thanks to her captivating (and comprehensive) descriptions and gorgeous illustrations and visuals to match.

Riemot Luggage Cup Holder

It would be nice to have another set of hands when rolling through the airport, wouldn’t it? Well, that’s where the Riemot Luggage Travel Cup Holder comes in. This handy attachment can fit onto any rolling suitcase or carry-on. It not only accommodates a beverage, but also easily fits a wallet or passport and most smartphones. There’s nothing better than being hands-free without having to dig through a handbag or backpack to get out the essentials.

BasicConcepts Airplane Foot Hammock

Sure — it might look a little cheesy at first glance… but they will be incredibly grateful for this whimsical gift when they’re on hour five of their next red-eye flight. The Basic Concepts Airplane Foot Hammock attaches underneath the tray table, providing them with instant relief of aches and pains that might crop up after sitting upright for hours on end. It can adjust to three different positions as well, so they’ll be able to continue to change their position throughout the flight for added comfort.

Steamline Luggage The Palm Cosmetics Set

Steamline Luggage

Frequent flyers are always on the hunt for streamlined packing accessories — and this cosmetics set from Steamline Luggage is a standout option. It ranks number one in our best travel pouch of 2024 thanks to its charming tropical-inspired prints and the fact that the pouches are crafted from recycled water bottles. The pouches can easily fit inside of one another when not in use and lay flat, which makes them easy to pack and store.

1,000 Places to See Before You Die

1,000 Places to See Before You Die is one of our favorite travel-focused reference books. The anthology is a veritable bucket list that is just as good for armchair travel as it is for reference when planning a trip. We also love flipping through this book to reflect on all the places we’ve been — the intriguing descriptions and photography evoke memories while also seeing even the most popular tourist destinations and monuments in a refreshing new light.

Native Union Universal Sling

The Native Union Universal Sling is designed to pop onto smartphones like a phone case — but it comes with a built-in strap that allows travelers to wear their phone like a crossbody bag or around their neck like a lanyard. It’s available in a variety of colorways and is made from recycled material for a more sustainable approach. It’s perfect for travel as it’s more secure than throwing a phone in a pocket or bag as well.

By Jake Henry Smith

Best High School Graduation Gifts

It might seem like you sent them off to school only yesterday, but here we are—somehow, it’s time to find the best high school graduation gifts. This is an exciting, confusing time for any young person, no matter where they’re off to next; the best thing you can do right now is make sure that they feel pampered and prepared for the future.

Getting it right depends as much on their plans as it does on their personality. Seniors who are taking a gap year to figure things out could use a handy sling bag for all the exploring they’re about to do. Anyone who’s off to college needs sturdy slides, nice sheets, and maybe even a skin care fridge for optimal dorm living. No matter what your favorite grad is about to get up to, we went ahead and tracked down the gifts that will impress 18-year-olds —no eye rolls here. From noise-canceling headphones to trendy backpacks, these are the graduation gifts the class of 2024 actually wants.
