6. Check Out modern-age artifacts at The Wolfsonian

For ages, art has been used to tell stories, and this South Beach Miami attraction uses a unique array of media created between 1845 to 1945 to tell a compelling one about the time from the Industrial Revolution to the end of the Second World War.

The beautifully restored 1927 Mediterranean Revival building, formerly home to Washington Storage Company, is where over 180,000 artifacts collected by Mitchell Wolfson Jr., alongside his unique collection of rare books and objects from the 1970s, are kept.

You will also find a design-oriented gift shop onsite, where you can purchase Wolfsonian publications, jewelry, toys, and more as souvenirs.

In 1763, Jews were allowed to live in Florida for the first time, and this museum documents their journey more than 250 years later with over 100,000 artworks, including documents, photographs, artifacts, and oral history.

These artworks are displayed across two former synagogues built in 1929 and 1936, respectively.

Having undergone extensive renovation, JMOF boasts 80 stained-glass windows, a marble bimah, a Moorish-style copper dome, and Art Deco features that are also worth seeing!

The museum focuses primarily on people who influenced Jewish life in Florida and the relationship between Jews and non-Jews.

Also, JMOF hosts periodic exhibitions alongside programs focused on Jewish studies.

Travelers see South Beach not only as one of the best vacation areas in Florida, but as one of the best in the country. Popular perception has somewhat pigeonholed the area as being reserved exclusively for the 24-hour partiers, but that's not necessarily the case. The truth is that South Beach (or SoBe, for short) welcomes anyone looking for pristine sand, amazing food and yes, a buzzing nightlife.

The options are limitless: you can spend the whole day shopping at boutiques, getting pampered at an opulent spa or just strolling along Ocean Drive . South Beach also hosts numerous festivals and events, including volleyball tournaments, Art Deco Weekend and music and art shows. Families can take the kids over to Watson Island about 4 miles over the McArthur Causeway to see the animals at Jungle Island or to play at the  Miami Children's Museum  for some educational fun.

As artists flocked to Lincoln Road and brought visitors to the area, the pedestrian promenade experienced a resurgence as one of the premier streets in the nation by the late 1990s. The street offers a blend of several architectural styles, including Mediterranean Revival, art deco, midcentury modern, and has been added to the National Register of Historic Places.

South Pointe Park and Pier South Pointe Park and Pier free

Located at the southernmost tip of Miami Beach, South Pointe is a 17-acre park that features walking paths, grassy knolls and sweeping views of the ocean. The area also has a playground with water features, and a dog park. There's plenty of seating throughout the park and a 55-foot art sculpture that lights up and greets visitors like a modern lighthouse. The South Pointe Pier juts out into the Atlantic Ocean and is a popular place to fish. The 450-foot-long pier offers stations for cutting bait and washing fish, recycling bins for fishing line and seating for various vantage points of the ocean.

Overall, recent travelers said a stroll through this park and along the pier is enjoyable, with many noting they loved watching both cruise ships and smaller yachts come and go. Located in the Art Deco Historic District and housed in a 1920s Mediterranean Revival building that is a South Beach landmark in its own right, the Wolfsonian-Florida International University is a multistory museum that explores the impact of art and design on world history through a collection of more than 200,000 objects. Focused on a century of transformation from 1850 to 1950, the collection of artifacts includes everything from everyday household appliances and furniture to groundbreaking architectural plans, propaganda posters and more.

Visitors enjoyed learning about 20th century design and seeing the display of art deco objects and political memorabilia. Some noted the museum's relatively small size means you can get a comprehensive look at the collection in about two hours. The indoor, air-conditioned museum is also a great place to escape the inevitable South Florida rain or humidity. At the gift shop, you can find design-oriented souvenirs, jewelry, clocks, kitchenware and books, including Wolfsonian publications. Travelers also recommended ordering a cappuccino or macchiato from the on-site coffee bar.

Holocaust Memorial Holocaust Memorial free

Located near the intersection of Dade Boulevard and Meridian Avenue, the Holocaust Memorial in South Beach is a moving tribute to the victims and survivors of the Holocaust. The idea was conceived by a small group of Holocaust survivors in 1984 and the memorial officially opened to the public in 1990. The site features a series of statues, architectural pieces, a garden of meditation and a memorial wall. The main sculpture features dozens of emaciated people reaching out for help, clinging to one another, that make up an outstretched arm reaching up to the sky.

Recent visitors echo one another, saying that Miami Beach's Holocaust Memorial moved them deeply and caused them to remember the importance of never forgetting the tragedy. Most travelers agree that you should stop by to see this beautiful tribute while you're in the area, citing the informative photo panels as ways to learn even more about this atrocity. There is also a brochure for self-guided tours available for a suggested $2 donation.

The Bass The Bass

Located in Collins Park steps from the beach, The Bass is a contemporary art museum on the northern end of South Beach featuring international contemporary art in a wide range of media, including sculpture, design, fashion and architecture. The small two-floor museum is housed in a 1930s art deco building that was formerly the Miami Beach Public Library and Art Center. While exhibitions within the galleries change every few months, The Bass' permanent collection includes outdoor public art within Collins Park, headlined by artist Ugo Rondinone's Miami Mountain sculpture – five boulders stacked 42 feet high, each painted a different fluorescent color, that have become an iconic photo-op.

Visitors can scan QR codes throughout the museum to follow a self-guided tour from their phone, but guided tours must be reserved in advance for an additional fee. The museum also has a cafe serving coffee and light bites; a boutique bookstore and gift shop selling designer jewelry, accessories, art books and other unique gifts; and an education facility called the Creativity Center for programming and workshops.

The Miami Children's Museum is located on a little island between downtown Miami and South Beach . Kid-friendly interactive exhibits are the focus of this museum, which caters to young children with things like a 6-foot piggy bank (to learn about financial literacy), the Castle of Dreams (a two-story sand castle with a winding slide designed to inspire imagination) and the Music Makers Studio (where children can learn how musical sounds are made), among several other engaging activities.

Families visiting Miami Beach say this is a great air-conditioned place to spend some time with younger kids, especially since many of the exhibits are so engaging. The museum offers fun activities for all ages, but parents said children ages 3 to 6 seemed to enjoy it more than the older ones. The downsides visitors noted were the high cost of admission (and having to pay for parking, too) and the limited food options available on-site. Recent travelers have also mentioned the museum could benefit from some updates.

Haulover Park Haulover Park

Clothing-optional Haulover has long been a favorite of laissez-faire residents and vacationers, but there's more to do here than nude sunbathing. You can fly kites, go charter fishing and even play volleyball at this shore located just north of Bal Harbour. And you don't have to strip to your birthday suit to enjoy this area, as there are also designated sections for swimsuit-clad beach bathing (the northern area of the beach is where you'll find nude sunbathers).

Most travelers said they enjoyed their time at Haulover Park, noting that it's a far more laid-back option than the busier South Beach . Some recent travelers expressed surprise at how friendly the people at the beach were, whether clothed or unclothed. If you don't bring your own gear, plan to part with at least $10 to $25 for beach and chair rentals, according to past visitors.

Ancient Spanish Monastery Ancient Spanish Monastery

Situated in North Miami Beach, this monastery has a storied past. Officially known as the Monastery of St. Bernard de Clairvaux, construction on the structure began in A.D. 1133 in northern Spain and was completed eight years later. It was inhabited by monks for nearly 700 years, but after a revolution in the 1830s, the monastery was taken over and sold. In 1925, the cloisters and the rest of the monastery were purchased by William Randolph Hearst and dismantled stone by stone to be shipped to the U.S., packed in more than 11,000 crates. After years of sitting in storage, the monastery was rebuilt in Miami over the course of 19 months with plans to turn it into a tourist attraction called the Ancient Spanish Monastery. (Time magazine called it "The Biggest Jigsaw Puzzle in History," as it involved over 35,000 stones.) It didn't do too hot as a tourist attraction alone, so it was sold to a local diocese and was turned into a church. Today, it's an active congregation that welcomes churchgoers and also acts as an attraction highlighting the monastery's beautiful architecture and its surrounding gardens.

Just in July of 2020, cars were banned on Ocean Drive, increasing pedestrian traffic and seating. Española Way was one of the first commercial development projects in Miami Beach with goals to serve as a colony for the local artists. Beach Originally, it was modeled after Mediterranean villages such as France and Spain, and after a 2017 renovation, the street became a pedestrian only street.

Today, Española Way still serves as a location to gather, create, and celebrate Hispanic culture for both visitors and locals. What would a trip to South Beach be without a day in the Florida sun? South Beach has a handful of beaches for both residents and visitors to enjoy, but their most popular beaches by far are South Pointe Park, Lummus Park, and the beaches north of Lincoln Road.

South Pointe Park is at the most southern tip of South Beach, that features beautiful views of Port Miami (and the many cruise ships!), Fisher Island, and Biscayne Bay. South Pointe Park is the perfect beach for the family with paved walking trails, playgrounds, and splash play areas for the kids to enjoy. Heading a bit north, starting at 5 th street is Lummus Beach, right along Ocean Drive.

This beach is typically what’s shown on movies and TV shows, as it runs along the strip where the Art Deco District is located. Going further north towards Collins Avenue, we have the beaches of Lincoln Road. 11. Miami Segway Tours

Another popular scene from the movies in South Beach is the group Segway tours, with multiple venues offering tours along the beachline. Tours vary from one to two hours, and each venue offers adequate training to use the Segway.

Depending on the venue, guests go off in groups as little as six guests to as many as ten, so be sure to check with your venue to accompany the size of your group. Depending on your tour, you may see stunning views of the Lincoln Road promade, or zoom past the colorful architecture of the Art Deco District.

Additionally, your tour guide will provide you and your group with history and facts about the architecture and events that led to Miami growing into the city it is today. The Lincoln Road Mall is located at the heart of South Beach, and includes many shops, pop up food trucks, restaurants, and plenty of Happy Hours to satiate your thirst. The mall itself features over 140 stores selling a variety of merchandise such as jewelry, shoes, and beauty/health.

Some of the best food in Miami is served on Lincoln Road at the TimeOut Market, featuring 21 restaurant and drink stalls in a cafeteria style. Love a movie night? Bring out a chair or a blanket and catch a free film at the Soundscape Park, a 7,000 sq ft. projection wall showing movies about once a week.

If you happen to be on Lincoln Road on a Sunday, you will catch the weekly farmers market, featuring locally sources fruits, vegetables, flowers, backed goods, and more. Additionally, the Lincoln Road Antique Market takes place from October to May; look out for dates post in early fall!

13. Diving and Snorkeling

Getting to see the beautiful sandy beaches and refreshing water is essential while in South Beach, and snorkeling is a great way to see the sea life in Miami. The South Beach Diving Center has recently relocated to Key Biscayne under the new name ‘Divers Paradise’, which is just 20 minutes from South Beach.

Guests can participate in a three-hour trip and can view the shallow wrecks and reefs that are just off the shore of Key Biscayne. If you will be living in the area for a while, Divers Paradise offers many diver classes, which can even train you to become a rescue/emergency response diver.

Other training that they offer includes Ice Diving and Search and Recovery diving; check out their website to learn what ways you can train underwater. This location also offers scuba diving for certified and non-certified divers, so be sure to mention your experience level when booking your trip for the best experience.

14. the bass.

The Bass is a contemporary art museum located on Collins Avenue in South Beach, Miami. The museum features permanent, long term, and short-term displays, including indoor and outdoor exhibits.

Some of the recent exhibitions include The Willfulness of Objects, a display of recycles objects to express human nature, history, and the surrounding (Miami) area, and the Charo Oquet , which is a call on Afro-Caribbean religion and traditions that furthers understand symbols and their significance in current society.

The Bass is also known for the many services and activities that they provide to their community members, such as creativity and art camps for kids, as well as community programs on art literacies and workshops for the family. This museum is thus a very family friendly activity and is rather affordable for groups.

15. Miami Beach Botanical Gardens

The Miami Beach Botanical Garden is a free admission garden and nursery, as well as a botanical boutique to support local artisans. The Garden Center has a display of native plants, succulents, various flowing vines, and some exotic plants all available for purchase.

The Botanical Gardens also hosts several events for all age groups, ranging from yoga and medication to art classes for kids (for free!). The Garden is also heavily focused on conservation, education, and has rotating art exhibits for guests to enjoy. One of the best free things to do in Miami for sure.

16. ARTECHOUSE Miami

ARTECHOUSE Miami opened in 2018 and challenges the idea of what is considered a traditional museum. This new take on art and museums presents new experiences through digital art and using new technology in all their exhibitions to do so.

Located on Collins Ave near Lummus Park, this museum combines science, art, and technology in order share new ideas with the world. The most recent exhibit was entitled Renewal 2121 , which uses this technology to present our society 100 years in the future; this interactive experience shows how industrialization may look in the future.

Because of the nature of ARTEHOUSE, guests can interact with all exhibitions, regardless of what the exhibit is, providing a more immersive experience. Tickets for ARTECHOUSE are $24 during the weekday, and $25 on the weekends; be sure to book your tickets for your visit in advance, you don’t want to miss out on this experience!

 17. Museum of Illusions

The Museum of Illusions is located on Lincoln Road, just around the corner from Time Out Market Miami. The Museum of Illusions is considered one of the most fun museums in Miami due to its interactive 3D illusions. There are over 40 picturesque illusions in the museum for memorable photos, ranging from flying on a magic carpet, to walking on the edge of a skyscraper.

The museum offers a variety of packages depending on if you would like a VIP experience, which includes a private photographer and free pictures, or if you want to do the interactive Smash It! exhibit. Smash It! allows guests too write on and break plates as a relaxation practice; this could be great stress relief while on you Miami vacation!

It is important to note that the museum does have a wait time for walk-in customers especially on weekends; if you would like to skip this line then a VIP package is the way to go.

18. Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach

About 40 years ago, a group of Holocaust survivors decided to build a permanent memorial in Miami for the six million Jews who lost their lives during the Holocaust.

The memorial features a Jerusalem stone and black granite building, sculptures of people, a water reflective pool and sculpture of love in the middle of the circling Memorial Wall. The museum is completely outdoor; be sure to bring your hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and water for the best experience!

South Beach has many activities to choose from, and many things to learn and discover about the history of the area. South Beach also has a proximity to other major South Florida cities, such as Fort Lauderdale just an hour north, and the Florida Keys, three hours south. In South Beach, just a quick 10 to 15-minute drive from downtown Miami, you should feel at home amongst both those who crave an active lifestyle (yoga, biking around town, vegan eats) and those who are fascinated by the glitz, glamour, and sparkle of South Beach’s effervescent shopping, architecture, and nightlife. Stretch It Out with Yoga at 3rd Street

Whether you want to start or end your day with yoga on the beach , 3rd Street has you covered with a by-donation class that takes place daily at sunrise and sunset. Every day of the year, this yoga class takes place on 3rd and Ocean Drive. Students and the instructor meet at the lifeguard hut. Bring a towel, water, and some sunblock and get ready for some fluid movements that will get your blood flowing. Between April and October, classes take place at 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.; between November and March, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., rain or shine. Detoxify your body and get your mind right so you can truly enjoy all that SoBe eating and drinking. 

Get Cultured at Various South Beach Museums

Whether you choose to visit The Bass, Miami’s contemporary art museum founded in 1964 and housed in a historic art deco space with a garden, or The Wolfsonian—FIU, a museum, library and research center with an extensive art collection, South Beach is bound to have a museum that will tickle your curiosity. Like something a little wilder where art is concerned? The World Erotic Art Museum is a museum, library, and education center that focuses on the history of erotic art with a collection owned by Naomi Wilzig. Find everything from paintings, drawings, photos, and sculptures here. You’ll even recognize pieces by world-renowned artists like Salvador Dali, Picasso, Fernando Botero, and Rembrandt. 

Enjoy It All With Your Four-Legged Friend in Tow

Luckily, South Beach is a super dog-friendly town, so if you’re traveling with your pups, they don’t have to be excluded from the fun. The boardwalk and Ocean Drive allow dogs, and so do most of the restaurants with outdoor seating. Hotels like the W and 1 Hotel South Beach are all dog-friendly, and if you want to take your pooch to play in the sand and swim in the ocean, you can do so just a short car ride away at Haulover Beach Park. Dogs are allowed to hang here daily until 3 p.m.

Dance and Drink the Night Away

Start or end your evening with a pina colada at Mango’s Tropical Cafe, a nightclub with live Latin music and entertainment until 5 a.m. daily. You haven’t truly experienced South Beach until you’ve done some dancing at Mango’s. Then there’s Nikki Beach. This indoor-outdoor club has been around for more than two decades, has a DJ on deck, and is the perfect place to party, day or night. If you want something a little quieter and more sophisticated, head to Rose Bar at the Delano Hotel. A glass of champagne is a no-brainer here; you can also indulge in LVE Wines, John Legend’s exclusive brand of rosé. Swizzle Rum Bar and Drinkery is the spot to hit up for a rum cocktail. Inside the Stiles Hotel, this 24-seater bar (plus additional seats in the lounge and outdoor pool area) is open until 5 a.m. daily and hosts happy hour daily from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. as well as themed nights like Tiki Monday, Smuggler Tuesday, and Prohibition Thursday. East Coast meets West Coast at the new Blind Barber inside the Nautilus Hotel. Neon lights and hip hop define this speakeasy-style club that you must enter through the barbershop—nothing like a not-so-secret secret bar in SoBe.

Get a Taste of Tropically-Influenced Cuisine

If it’s vegan dining with breathtaking decor you’re going for, look no further than Planta South Beach. For a hint of Southern style (think mint juleps and fried chicken), Yardbird never disappoints. The seasonal Joe’s Stone Crabs will give you a real taste of South Florida, whether you’re in the mood for stone crabs, good old lobster, or a key lime pie. And then there’s Katsuya—consistently delicious no matter what city you’re in, the sushi here is always fresh, and the food presentations are impeccable. When you want to celebrate with steak frites and some terrific people-watching, Prime 112 will be your go-to. In the Prime family, there’s also Prime Italian, Prime Fish, and Big Pink, so no matter what you’re in the mood for this restaurant group will have you covered from all angles. 

Spot Celebrity Homes on a Stand-Up Paddleboard or Kayak

You may choose to just rent stand-up paddleboards or kayaks on your own and head out on an adventure tailored by you, or you may want a little guidance if it’s your first time out on the Miami waters. The good thing is that here waters are relatively calm, weather permitting. If it’s a sunset excursion you’re looking at, spend a little more money for the tour. You can also take a two-hour guided tour to Monument Island Beach, which is secluded and only accessible by water. 

Take an Art Deco Walking Tour

It’s not the most affordable tour you’ll ever take (nothing in South Beach is cheap), but we can say with confidence that it’s absolutely 100 percent worth it. This two-hour walking tour will introduce you to Art Deco, Mediterranean Revival, and Miami Modern (MiMo) architectural styles that are found in the Miami Beach Architectural Historic District. Tours are $30 per person, discounted at $25 per person for seniors (65 and over), veterans and students, and they take place rain or shine, so dress appropriately. Comfortable walking shoes and a rain jacket or an umbrella should do the trick. 

Do Some Window Shopping on Lincoln Road

Just a few blocks from the beach, Lincoln Road Mall is a superb place for shopping, dining and people watching. From Madewell and Urban Outfitters to Pottery Barn, Taschen, CB2, and Williams-Sonoma, Lincoln Road has all your clothing, home, shoes, decor, and gift needs. Enjoy happy hour on weekdays (a few of the dining spots even offer happy hour on Sundays) at some of the outdoor mall’s restaurants, like Doraku, Havana 1957, Meat Market and Sushi Samba. There’s even a movie theater on Lincoln Road in case you want to catch a pre-shopping matinee or a flick after dinner. Regal South Beach ScreenX, IMAX & VIP is everything you need a theater to be with multiple screens, new release films, comfortable seating for lounging, and, of course, a concession stand with all the sweet treats and popcorn you’d want to pair with a movie. 

Transport to Europe’s Quaintest Streets at Espanola Way

If you’re looking for a European getaway without the price tag, head to Espanola Way, Miami’s historic Spanish village just three blocks south of Lincoln Road. Here, you can take a leisurely walk up the paved and tree-lined street, stopping in at different restaurants for Spanish, Cuban, French, Italian, and Mexican food, along with cocktails, coffee, and dessert to enjoy pre or post-dinner.

1.  Art Deco Historic District

Ice cream cone pastels, geometric lines and curves, chrome accents and decorative fountains are just a few characteristics that distinguish the iconic buildings of Miami Beach’s Art Deco Historic District. Miami has the highest concentration of Art Deco buildings in the world, and their preservation has saved the South Beach skyline from becoming a canyon of condos. Amazingly, these buildings were nearly destroyed by developers in the early 1970s. Today, a number of the best Miami hotels , and even some South Beach clubs , have maintained their beautiful façades and historical designation.

The centerpiece of Collins Park’s cultural campus (which includes the adjacent Miami City Ballet), this recently enhanced and enlarged contemporary art museum includes more exhibition space, four new galleries, a gift shop, café by Thierry Isambert and a new educational facility called the Creativity Center. With the revamp also came a series of fresh acquisitions and gifts from New York’s Museum of Modern Art.

3.  South Pointe Park

South Pointe Park occupies the southernmost tip of Miami Beach. There's beach access (with a great view of massive cruise ships rolling in and out of Miami), a walkable pier and also some green space to spread a blanket and chill out. If you can wake up early enough (or stay awake late enough), the sunrises from this vantage point are seriously out of this world.

4.  Española Way

This classic Spanish street functions as an elegant, picturesque cousin to nearby Lincoln Road, replete with Mediterranean flair and adorable sidewalk cafes. Following an ambitious restoration project, which completely replaced the street's existing pavement and sidewalk, Española Way has been restored to its original grandeur as a true pedestrian-only strip. You won't find big-box stores nor large hotels, just quaint small shops and cozy, bilevel hotels that whisk you away to far-flung places.

5.  Stubborn Seed

The Top Chef -winning toque wows the city's foodies with his creativity and meticulousness. Stubborn Seed—which received a Michelin star in 2022 —is Ford’s first solo restaurant, and he’s every bit the fixated parent fussing over his new baby—in a good way. The tasting menu (courses and pricing vary depending on the season) is a sign of a chef who’s poured over every detail of the culinary experience.

6.  Miami Beach Bandshell

This open-air music venue with a proscenium stage and bench seating is where you’ll catch Miami’s most eclectic bookings—think rare world music acts and Latin jazz brought to you by venue managers Rhythm Foundation. With string lights and an ocean breeze above, this place is Miami’s most charming little music venue.

7.  Broken Shaker

This indoor/outdoor watering hole sums up the city’s drinking culture down to its poolside seating and shareable punch bowls, which change seasonally. Not sure what to sip? Close your eyes and point to the menu. Everything is good. The pool is also open to customers, so feel free to grab a drink and take a dip.

8.  Joe's Stone Crab

South Florida’s most famous restaurant turned 100 in 2013 and is as much a Miami must-see as Ocean Drive. The best time to visit is October through May, when the seasonal stone crabs are served with a “secret” sauce, garlic creamed spinach, fried sweet potatoes, coleslaw and hash browns. Joe’s takes limited reservations, so be prepared for a horrendously long wait. Or head straight to Joe’s Take Away next door, where you get the same fresh claws at the same price without the long lines.

9.  Lummus Park

This sprawling 74-acre park with a beachfront path takes you through some of South Beach's most recognizable territory: along classic Ocean Drive architecture (hello, Versace Mansion), past muscle hunks doing pull-ups on the sand and right up to some prime ocean views. Rent bikes or skates to best take it all in with the ocean breeze in your hair. Lummus Park is also home to a number of major annual events including the Hyundai Air & Sea Show and the South Beach Wine & Food Festival.

10.  Basement

While most activities in this city require driving, Basement solves your transportation woes by grouping your favorite nighttime activities (and even some daytime things) into one super fun location. The underground space offers bowling under neon lighting and indoor ice skating, plus features a full bar and a dance floor.

11.  Lincoln Road Mall

• Shopping centers

The Lincoln Road Mall—or, in local shorthand, "Lincoln Road"—had its heyday in the 1950s, when it was designed by iconic architectural guru Morris Lapidus and dubbed the "Fifth Avenue of the South." Gussied up in 1997 with a $16-million facelift, the mall sits between 16th and 17th Streets and stretches from Washington Avenue to Alton Road. Sundays are popular for the Lincoln Road Antiques and Farmers' Market .

12.  Haulover Park

This 99-acre waterfront green space features picnic pavilions, offers easy parking and beach access and hosts a fun food truck festival every Tuesday from 5 to 10pm. It’s also a tan-line-free zone: Haulover has one of the few nude beaches in the county. It’s also home to probably the best of Miami’s few dog-friendly beaches.

13.  Faena District

Part of the Faena chain of luxury hotels, this architecturally stunning set of buildings sprinkled across mid-Beach plays hosts some of Miami’s best public gatherings, from cabaret shows to interactive art installations and more. The floor inside the Faena Forum looks like a massive kaleidoscope, while Faena Theater hosts a Jazz Series featuring a rotating cast of award-winning musicians from around the world.

14.  LIV

Simply put, LIV is the most famous club in South Beach. A 2017 million-dollar renovation added more LED screens that generate greater light spectacles to highlight its usual star-studded lineup—everyone from Travis Scott and Skrillex to Justin Bieber has held court at LIV. Come for LIV’s popular weekly Sunday night party (LIV on Sunday), where you’ll see no less than five famous rappers.

15.  Art Basel Miami Beach

Art Basel, which stages  four  major fairs each year—in Hong Kong, Basel, Miami Beach and, most recently, Paris—focuses on modern and contemporary art and puts more than 200 leading galleries and 4,000 artists from across the globe in front of the art world’s top curators, museums and collectors at the Miami Beach Convention Center . The weekend of Art Basel (December 8–10, 2023) has become a major draw for Miami, with parties, satellite fairs and major events being held in conjunction with the show—have fun celebrity-spotting.

The two have become so intertwined, that when LeBron James announced he was joining the Miami Heat – who play in downtown Miami – he famously said he was taking his talents to South Beach, which lies several miles and a body of water away. The neon, art deco, and palm trees you imagine as Miami are mostly visions of Miami Beach, which is a separate city from mainland Miami. It’s a must-visit on any trip to South Florida, and you’ll find plenty to eat, drink, and do in greater Miami’s most iconic area.

How to get to south beach.

Traffic getting around South Beach can be exceptionally tough, especially during busy times. Take the city's circulating taxis whenever you can, they're air-conditioned and run continuous loops around the island.

South Beach lies only a few miles from downtown Miami and is reachable via three different causeways. The most direct is I-395, also known as the MacArthur Causeway. It will take you directly onto 5th Street in the heart of South Beach. The Venetian Causeway runs from just north of downtown Miami to about 17th Street in Miami Beach. It’s the shortest route, but also has bridges that go up at 15 and 45 after the hour and has several stoplights. The third option is I-195, also known as the Julia Tuttle Causeway. It will drop you on 41st Street in mid-Miami Beach, so you’ll need to exit onto Alton Road southbound to reach South Beach.

Lay on the beach near Lummus Park

The beach is South Beach’s biggest draw, and while you can get your fix of soft sand and turquoise waters anywhere Lummus Park offers the most action. Here, volleyball courts and exercise equipment attract models and other fit locals, and on the weekends, you’ll find the biggest beach parties are in this area too. The park also frequently hosts festivals like LGBT Pride and Art Deco Weekend.

Stroll South Pointe Park

If you’d like something a little quieter, head south of Fifth Street to South Pointe Park . The beach just off the park is far less crowded than sections further north, and it ends at a rock jetty where you can walk out above the Atlantic Ocean. The park’s small hills offer an elevated viewpoint of Government Cut, the cruise ships leaving from PortMiami, and sunset behind the Miami skyline.

Visit the Versace Mansion

The former home of fashion designer Gianna Versace is one of only two private homes along Ocean Drive, an opulent Mediterranean Revival mansion on 11th Street. Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix returns to South Florida. Here's what you need to know

MIAMI GARDENS — In about two weeks, Formula 1 revs up again in South Florida.

South Florida Motorsports (SFM), the organizers of the Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix 2024, have announced that the international racing event will return to Miami Gardens, taking place the first weekend of May at the Miami International Autodrome next to Hard Rock Stadium.

Entering its third year , Miami has been chosen as one of the only six venues to host an F1 Sprint in 2024, meaning there will be an extra race held that Saturday and guaranteeing high-octane action throughout the weekend.

Here's everything you need to know about this year's race.

Now available for purchase, the General Admission Campus Pass offers three days of on-track action throughout the weekend and across the Autodrome.

For $150 per day, the General Admission Campus Pass offers a variety of views, food, art and entertainment for an immersive F1 weekend to reflect "the culture of Miami throughout," SFM stated.

The pass includes access to the 300 level of Hard Rock Stadium to see the F1 Team Village on the football field, the support paddocks, an expanded F1 Fan Zone, a view of the winners' podium and access to the track at the end of the race. According to the event organizers, the support paddocks access, which hosts the F1 Academy and Porsche series, is new this year for Campus Pass holders.

"We have been eagerly anticipating the launch of this year's Campus Pass and are excited to announce it is now available for fans," stated Tyler Epp, president of the Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix. "As we enter the third year of the Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix, we are proud and excited to welcome fans to our beautiful Campus, which is entirely unique in auto racing and has been thoughtfully imagined and perfected to provide the best fan experience on the Formula 1 calendar."

"This General Admission ticket offers great value for an immersive Formula 1 weekend," Epp continued. "And with the addition of a Sprint race guaranteeing three days of competitive action, all Campus Pass holders will experience everything our race is famous for, from the exciting on-track racing to the very best music, food and culture Miami has to offer."

The Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix begins Friday, May 3, and concludes on Sunday, May 5. Below is the preliminary schedule of racing events. The exact times have not yet been announced, but the schedule will be updated when more information is released.

For the first time, Miami will be one of six locations to host a Sprint race in 2024. Held on Saturday, the Sprint is roughly a third the distance of a Grand Prix and "will guarantee three days of competitive action" in Miami Gardens this year, SFM stated. The other locations to host Sprints include Austin, Texas; China, Austria, Brazil and Qatar.

On track, there will be no changes to the driver lineups for the first time in the sport's history. This means Florida's Logan Sargeant will enjoy another season at Williams Racing as the American driver, who is looking to build on his rookie campaign from last year. According to SFM, Sargeant turned 23 on New Year's Eve and will be keen to increase his points haul going into this season.

One notable change to the 10 teams is the departure of Alfa Romeo, meaning that the Swiss-based Sauber squad will be known as the Stake F1 Team moving forward before Audi takes ownership of the organization full-time in 2026, SFM stated.

However, a new addition to this season will be the F1 Academy — the innovative junior series that has been created to prepare female drivers for higher levels of motorsport competition, to find a future female Formula 1 star. The championship will visit seven different venues this year and every round will form a part of the support package of a Grand Prix weekend. Each team will also feature a car that will be affiliated to one of the 10 F1 teams. Miami is set to host a round during its weekend, which will further add to the action to the third staging of a Formula 1 race at Hard Rock Stadium.

Off-road Activities

Other than watching the fast cars and races, there are plenty of things to do at the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix.

For starters, there will be a live auction on Saturday night. In partnership with international car auction house Bonhams | Cars, fans will be able to enjoy the display of contemporary, modern supercars and Formula 1 race cars around the Miami campus during the weekend.

Aside from the auction, fans will be delighted to hear that the Hard Rock Beach Club returns for 2024. As one of the most iconic hospitality spaces at the Autodrome, the venue is located on the outside of Turns 11-13 on the track and is the place where "South Beach meets Formula 1," SFM stated.

Exclusively available to Hard Rock Beach Club ticket holders, the space features cabana-style seating, signature pools, bars and all-day cuisine, along with world-class entertainment from top performers such as singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran and DJ John Summit. SFM stated that more A-list acts will be announced in the coming weeks. If you're unable to catch these performances live, you can always watch them anywhere at the venue since they will be streamed for all fans throughout the campus.

Speaking of top performers, fans are expected to watch Grammy winner Marc Anthony to perform the national anthem ahead of Sunday's race before drivers start their engines. To cap off the weekend, Grammy-winning DJ and producer Kaytranada will close out the weekend with an on-stage performance following Sunday's trophy presentation.

Royal romance: Best images, video of Prince Harry, Meghan Markle's recent visit to Wellington

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently made a surprise visit to Palm Beach County, immersing themselves in a whirlwind of philanthropic and sporting endeavors. The royal couple, now residing in California, graced the region with their presence, starting with Harry's participation in a panel discussion in South Beach on Thursday, April 11. The panel, held at The Ritz-Carlton, focused on how to address the health, wealth inequality, and climate challenges affecting African youth, a long-held passion of Harry's.

On Friday, April 12, Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex headed to Wellington, where they attended the Royal Salute Polo Challenge at Grand Champions Polo Club. The event, benefiting Sentebale, a charity Harry co-founded, supports children in Lesotho and Botswana affected by poverty and health issues like HIV. The couple mingled with Sentebale executives and friends, including polo player Nacho Figueras and his wife, Delfina.

While Harry played polo, Meghan joined Delfina in the viewing area . This was Harry's second polo outing in Wellington, emphasizing his enduring connection to the sport and its charitable endeavors. It may have been a brief visit, but the royal couple's presence underscored the region's significance as a hub for philanthropy and equestrian pursuits. The visit follows in the path of Harry's father, Prince Charles , whose own fondness for polo also brought him to town.

What to do before or after your cruise from portmiami.

There’s always something new at PortMiami , the cruise capital of the world. If it’s not a new terminal , it’s a new cruise ship sailing from the world’s busiest cruise port. Some 7.3 million passengers boarded cruise ships in PortMiami in 2022-2023.

That's a lot of people roaming around Miami in anticipation of a cruise that could take them to the Southern Caribbean, South America, Antarctica or even around the world.

Rest assured, there are tons of things to do in South Florida to entertain any cruisers who arrive a day or two early or extend their vacation after the cruise. There’s world-class food, shopping, art and views at every turn. Plus the people-watching is first-rate. You never know who you might see in a Miami Beach club or shop, be it a pro athlete, a pop star or a reality show real wife from somewhere.

PortMiami is less than 10 miles from Miami International Airport and cars are easily rented there if you arrive in Florida with time to spare. And you really should plan on that because Miami is a cultural playground that will set the tone for whatever cruise itinerary awaits. Even if you don’t have access to a car, taxis and ride share options are easily had. Also, the Miami city trolley’s Coral Way route stops in three places at MiamiPort. The trolley is free.

PortMiami is on Dodge Island, which is adjacent to the state’s most exclusive residential islands, including Fisher and Star islands. Reported to own homes on Fisher Island are Oprah Winfrey, Julia Roberts and tennis great Boris Becker along with Ivanka Trump and husband Jared Kushner. Nearby Star Island also has its share of celebs including Gloria Estefan, Shaquille O’Neal and Enrique Inglesias. Starstruck travelers won’t be able to get on the islands, but there are boating excursions that cruise past the stars’ backyards. Don’t care about stars? Check out the opulent architecture.

When it comes to dining, Miami serves the world on a platter. From Cuban and Latin American specialties to award-winning Japanese sushi and omakase experiences to local flavors that celebrate the sea, the city hums with good taste. Miami has one two-star Michelin restaurant and 11 restaurants that have been awarded one star, plus plenty more that get other recognitions. The Michelin Guide has just come to Florida and shined its light on Miami. If you want the two-star experience, check out L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon Miami . Bring your wallet. Dinner is easily $200 a person, before drinks.

But there are other places to eat just a few miles from PortMiami, some with legendary status like Joe’s Stone Crab on Miami Beach and Versailles Cuban restaurant in the city’s Little Havana neighborhood. There’s not a major campaigning politician, presidential hopefuls included, who doesn’t stop into Versailles to court Miami’s powerful Latin vote. Want something low-key but supremely interesting? Head to the Wynwood arts district for a tasty something-something from James Beard honored Artisan Jewish baker, Zak Stern. His Zak the Baker bakery draws foodies from all over and reservations are a wise move.

There’s plenty more things to do before or after your cruise out of PortMiami. Here are five ways to add value to your cruise vacation in the vibrant city of Miami.

Explore Miami Beach

The beachside town is known for neon-lit nightclubs and trendy fashion, but it is also home to a string of Art Deco architectural jewels plus other landmark buildings classified as Mediterranean Revival or Miami Modern. The Miami Design Preservation League has self-guided (with app-based audio) and narrated walking tours, which take about two hours. Feel like taking in the sites on wheels? The free Miami Beach Trolley takes riders up and down the barrier island on the ocean-side road which lets you see the old Art Deco hotels that have been transformed into boutique accommodations with nightclubs, past the legendary Fontainebleau Hotel and even by the mansion where designer Gianni Versace was gunned down. The trolley is mostly transportation and is not narrated. Still, it’s free and you can hop off and get back on along the way. Another way to explore the area is the seven-mile Miami Beach Boardwalk which runs between the beach and the back of the buildings on the east side of Collins Avenue for about 40 blocks. The boardwalk is open to runners, walkers and skaters; some stretches are okay for bicyclists.

Read the Walls

The Wynwood Walls Arts District is an example of urban evolution. Empty warehouses north of downtown Miami have been transformed into an open-air art museum thanks to 35 murals and creative artists. The walls explode with colorful art, some of it making social commentary. The Cost is $12 (less for military personnel, seniors and kids) to wander around on your own. Guided tours are $20. The art district has spawned retail shops and places to eat and drink. After you’ve satisfied your taste for mural art, stop at J. Wakefield Brewery for a cold brew with a wicked fun name like Hops 4 Teacher American IPA or an Amber Waves red ale. Dasher & Crank has tropical ice cream for the kids. Two scoops of mojito for the adults, please. If it happens to be raining when you want to visit, consider ducking into the Museum of Graffiti just a couple blocks away from the murals.

Take an Historic Dip

The Venetian Pool might just be the most unusual place you ever swim and at least the most historic. Tucked into a neighborhood in Coral Gables, just south of PortMiami, it’s near the University of Miami and the tony Miracle Mile shopping and dining district. The pool was built in 1923 from a coral rock quarry and is fed by spring water from an underground aquifer. It looks like something out of a vintage movie with its Mediterranean Revival structures and a waterfall reminiscent of a South Pacific scene. But it’s thoroughly modern in many ways, hosting kids birthday parties and staffed with lifeguards. It’s on the National Register of Historic Places. Bike on Key Biscayne

A few miles from MiamiPort is the barrier island of Key Biscayne, which for years has been the winter home of politicians, celebrities and anyone who wants to escape from the cold weather up North. Key Biscayne is lush with tropical foliage and boasts one of the nicest beaches in South Florida, the municipal Crandon Park beach lined with 13 lifeguard stands. It’s here that you can rent a bicycle or a four-wheel surrey for four to pedal the length of the four-mile island. Before you take off, hang out at Crandon beach for a while, maybe even rent a cabana . Crandon takes up about half of the key and a residential/hotel area separates it from Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park (party entry is $8). At the tip of the island is the Cape Florida Lighthouse , built in 1825. This is a great place to take photos, including selfies. The intrepid can climb the 109-step spiral staircase to the top, and there are benches below where non- climbers can wait. Check before you go to make sure restoration work is finished. There are places to stop for food and drink along the residential portion of Key Biscayne. Another place to explore is Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center , also called the Biscayne Nature Center. Around the center are four marked trails that can be hiked in 25 to 60 minutes.

Get a Little Culture

The Pérez Art Museum Miami is one of the city’s newest museums and it features contemporary art of the 20th and 21th century. It’s a quick free trolley ride (Coral Way route) from MiamiPort and you’ll be transported to a building as interesting outside as it is inside. The museum sits on Biscayne Bay and its iconic hanging gardens —seven columns of plants—create a living sculpture. The design of the building pays homage to “Stiltsville,” the stilted fish houses built in the ’20s and ’30s near Cape Florida now under the auspices of the National Park Service. Inside the museum, are lots of works by Latin American artists among the permanent collections plus special exhibitions. Entry to the museum is $18 for adults and free for teachers, active and retired military, and first responders. Within walking distance is the Frost Science Museum, Aquarium and Planetarium with occasional events and activities for kids.
