World Athletics Cross Country Tour Gold Series Schedule

AMOREBIETA-ETXANO, Spain (Oct. 18) — The World Athletics Cross Country Tour is ramping up, shifting focus to its first Gold-level event of the 2023-2024 season. After initial Silver and Bronze level meets in Lidingö, Sweden, and Dublin, Ireland, the tour is set to make its Gold debut in Amorebieta-Etxano, Spain.

This year’s Cross Country Tour is the most expansive to date, featuring 25 fixtures from September to March. The lineup includes 15 Gold level, eight Silver, and two Bronze events.

The season kicked off with the TCS Lidingöloppet in Sweden on September 23 and continued at the Autumn Open International in Ireland on October 15.

Key Stops Ahead

The tour will make its next stop for a Silver-level meeting at the NI & Ulster and Bobby Rea International Cross Country in Belfast on October 21.

This will serve as a prelude to the first Gold-level competition at the Cross Internacional Zornotza in Amorebieta-Etxano, Spain, slated for the following day.

The tour features some of the most prestigious international cross-country races and will play a significant role in preparing athletes for the World Athletics Cross Country Championships in Belgrade on March 30.

Olympic Implications

The World Athletics Cross Country Tour and the cross-country rankings also serve as a qualification pathway for the 10,000m at global championships.

The top eight men and women in the cross-country rankings, who are not already qualified, will automatically earn a spot for the Olympic Games in Paris.

The 2023-2024 Cross Country Tour calendar is the biggest yet, as it features 25 fixtures from September to March – 15 Gold level, eight Silver and two Bronze.

With the track and field season now over, the focus shifts to the cross-country season, and action already kicked off with the World Athletics Cross Country Tour Silver and Bronze level meetings in Lidingö and Dublin.

As reported by World Athletics , the 2023-2024 Cross Country Tour calendar is the biggest yet, as it features 25 fixtures from September to March – 15 Gold level, eight Silver and two Bronze.

Two-time Africa U20 silver medallist Sandra Felis Chebet of Kenya Police and KDF’s Vincent Kimutai won the AK Cross-Country series opening meeting dominated by Lemotit camp.

The Cross-Country Tour once again features some of the most prestigious international cross-country races in the world and will form a key part in the preparation of many athletes who will be targeting the World Athletics Cross Country Championships in Belgrade on March 30.

The season launched at the TCS Lidingöloppet in Sweden (Silver) on September 23 and continued at the Autumn Open International in Ireland (Bronze) on October 15.

The first Gold level competition will be at the Cross Internacional Zornotza in Amorebieta-Etxano, Spain, and will be held on October 22.

After the action in Amorebieta-Etxano, the Gold series will remain in Spain, the Cross Internacional de Atapuerca before stops in the UK, USA, Italy, Belgium, Botswana, Kenya and Portugal.

CROSS COUNTRY

This is the captivating tale of a legendary tribe that has all but vanished, yet their legacy still echoes throughout Kenya today. Passed down through the ages, the story tells of a powerful King named Sengwer and his two sons, Sirikwa and Mitia. Sirikwa, the elder son, went on to rule over the Great Rift Valley, from Lake Turkana in the north to Lake Eyas in the south, and from the eastern escarpment to the foot of Mount Elgon. They dominated the region until the rise of the Maasai, and ultimately blended into other tribes.

The Sirikwa Classic Cross Country commemorates this tribe, paying homage to the Kalenjin people and their rich cultural heritage that endures to this day.

Countries are expected to send their top cross-country runners to battle for glory on 3rd  February 2024 , at Lobo Village Kapseret in Eldoret. The legend Ibrahim  Hussein, a three-time Boston Marathon champion, is the host and is responsible for making it possible to organise the best cross-country experience, along with the support of the residents of Kapseret.
