I don't think I've seen this mentioned here yet, so here's a link to a new Trek modeling forum. http://www.allscaletrek.com/index.php Caters for many scales, starting at the gaming miniatures scales (1/3788, 1/2500 etc) and going up from there. Nice site, I just joined!  

So, anyone else joined the All Scale Trek forum? It looks like it's developing into a nice forum, and not just for Trek kit modelers. It caters for gaming miniatures, collectables and toys (Playmates), costumes and props too. I joined up mainly because of my interest in FASA scale starship miniatures, but I will be posting some stuff about my RPG 25/28mm minis as well now I realise how much more wide ranging the forums interests are. It's a friendly place, and you'll be more than welcome if you come along. There are a few folk from the Starship Modeler Star Trek forum, the Starship Combat News forum and Brad Torgersens FASA STSTCS forum as well. But the more the merrier, eh? Help turn it into a dynamic and wide ranging Trek modeling and collectables forum. Mark

I'll most likely be joining there soon, as I'm looking forward to showing off my replicas of all the DS9 kitbashes (minus the tug, since I have no idea what was used for the main body of it). Here's the list: 1. Centaur - complete 2. Curry - complete 3. Bradford - complete 4. Jupp - in process, all parts acquired 5. Yeager - in process, all parts acquired 6. Elkins - unbuilt, all parts acquired 7. Hutzel - unbuilt, all parts acquired 8. Antares - unbuilt, all parts acquired I decided not to build the Raging Queen either, as the Curry was so close to the design that I consider them the same class of ship, and I'd basically just be building another Curry.  

That's an impressive list! You should post your WIP pics too.

“This has been a labor of love, sometimes hate over the last several years. I created the original patterns with both new and old school techniques. The saucer pattern was created with lots of plaster and a rotating template just like they did the original, however instead of Vacuum forming over each half, I pulled a fiberglass mold to lay up carbon fiber parts. Most of the remaining parts I first modeled up in Rhino and then had them 3D printed out. After finishing and getting a nice smooth surface those parts were then molded as well. I used the combination of processes as I went with whatever would ultimately provide the best result.” Dave

Kit Description: This is the largest and best TOS kit ever offered at 71″ in length. It has been meticulously researched for accuracy and created with both old world and cutting technologies. The saucer patterns were created like the original studio model with spun plaster and templates but molded and laid up in carbon fiber. The hull and nacelles are old laid up carbon fiber and fiberglass, the pylons are cast resin with aluminum rods and 3D printed laser sintered alignment receptacles/jigs are provided for perfect alignment of the warp engines. Lynyrd Skynyrd is a band that won’t quit. Just when it seems like they’re ready to hang it all up, they hint–or outright announce–that more is on the way, whether that be music or concerts. One of the group’s recent releases, one which seemed to signify the end of it all, is back on the charts this week as the rockers continue rocking.

The band’s Last of the Street Survivors live recording reappears on this week’s Top Album Sales chart. The title is back on Billboard’s list of the bestselling albums in the U.S. at No. 41. It once rose as high as No. 17, and it’s now spent 15 frames on this roster, which is impressive for any live album.

In the past tracking frame, Last of the Street Survivors sold another 2,119 copies, according to Luminate. That’s up 139% from the week before, which is a huge jump for any title, let alone one that’s been out for several years.

Lynyrd Skynyrd released Last of the Street Survivors in December 2019. The set was recorded during their tour of the same name, which also included the word “farewell,” at least at the time. The trek was interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic, and when the group resumed playing live, they had renamed the venture the Big Wheels Keep On Turning Tour, as it was no longer going to be their final outing.

As Last of the Street Survivors reappears on one Billboard chart, the band has a presence on several other lists as well. Lynyrd Skynyrd is one of those groups that’s still so popular to this day that they can almost always be found on one ranking or another.

As their live recording soars, the rock outfit’s All Time Greatest Hits is on the downswing. The compilation slips a few rungs on the Billboard 200, Top Rock & Alternative Albums, and Top Rock Albums charts this week.

Lynyrd Skynyrd just finished one leg of their current The Sharp Dressed Simple Man Tour with ZZ Top. The two rock bands have been entertaining crowds throughout the U.S. for much of this spring, and now they’re on a break for a few months. The groups are expected to return with more shows this coming summer.

Gogoro battery-swapping electric scooters continue international expansion.

Gogoro has been on a roll lately, showing off a steady stream of new scooter models and simultaneously expanding its markets into new countries. Now, the battery-swapping electric scooter leader is adding another pin to the map: Nepal.

Gogoro’s e-scooters are most famous for their battery-swapping architecture, with the company’s iconic green and black battery modules serving as the basis for hundreds of thousands of battery swaps each day.

Based in Taiwan, Gogoro has regularly expanded into new countries by partnering with local energy companies. To reach the Nepalese market, Gogoro teamed up with Nebula Energy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of MG Group. As a new energy venture, Nebula is committed to leading the way towards an environmentally sustainable and energy-independent Nepal.

Nebula Energy joined Gogoro at a joint press event in Kathmandu today, where Nepal’s first battery-swapping station is located. Nebula now becomes an authorized and exclusive partner of Gogoro in the country.

“Gogoro is at the forefront of sustainable urban transportation, and together, we plan to contribute to Nepal’s zero-emission targets through this new age of sustainable energy, mobility, and technology,” said Manoj Goyal, chairman of Nebula Energy. 

Along with rolling out battery-swapping stations, Gogoro is bringing its new Crossover GX250 electric scooter to the country.

The Gogoro Crossover GX250 electric scooter, launched late last year , has been referred to as the first two-wheeled SUV for its utility design that enables heavier cargo-duty and off-road riding. Both are key features for the Nepal market.

“We are proud to be partnering with an industry leader like Nebula Energy who shares our vision for accelerating the electric transformation of Nepal’s two-wheel transportation industry. Nepal is at the forefront of clean energy generation and utilization and is actively promoting two- and four-wheel EV adoption and our partnership is sure to make a significant impact,” said Horace Luke, founder and CEO of Gogoro. “Together, Gogoro and Nebula Energy share a vision for accelerating the electric transformation of Nepal’s two-wheel transportation industry. Gogoro battery swapping is optimized to provide convenient Swap & Go access to Gogoro Smart Batteries in seconds. Gogoro’s new Gogoro CrossOver GX250 is optimized for riders in Nepal with more seating and storage space and better ground clearance.”

Similarly to many other countries that Gogoro has expanded into over the last few years, the first Gogoro scooters in Nepal will be used in B2B applications. Gogoro’s electric scooters have proven popular with delivery and courier services , whose riders often spend all day riding throughout both urban and rural areas, and thus rely on battery swapping to ‘refuel’ even quicker than a conventional gas station fill-up for combustion engine motorcycles and scooters.

Gogoro’s battery-swapping GoStations will be rolled out every two to three kilometers (one to two miles) in the Kathmandu valley.

However, Nebula plans to begin offering Gogoro’s electric scooters at consumer retail locations by the end of this year.

Electrek’s Take

Every time I hear of another Gogoro expansion, I get even more encouraged about the ability to actually reduce transportation emissions on a global scale. While it’s nice to see electric cars hitting the road in the West, there are hundreds of millions of polluting two and four-stroke scooters and motorcycles in Asia that have a much larger impact on air quality and carbon emissions. Focusing on those vehicles seems like low-hanging fruit, especially considering how much fewer resources are required to produce a scooter than a car.

The Gogoro Crossover GX250 is a particularly interesting model, and I even had the chance to try one around Taiwan last month (more on that coming soon). It’s got the power to climb curvy mountain roads, something I can attest to personally, but is also rugged enough for off-road trails or lashing a family’s week-worth of groceries and goods to the bike. So that model heading to Nepal makes a lot of sense.

I often have people asking me when Gogoro will come to Europe or North America. From everything I can see, Asia still seems to be Gogoro’s priority, though a recent expansion into Latin America is a promising sign. But the Asian markets are simply too ripe for the company to focus elsewhere yet. Two-wheelers dominate so many Asian countries, which is why Gogoro can have a much bigger impact there. I could see the possibility of Gogoro eventually coming to Europe, where scooters and motorcycles are a larger part of the commuter landscape than in North America. But for the US, I don’t think we should hold our breath for a Gogoro entry anytime soon, unfortunately.
