Updated January 2024: We added the OneBeat Travel Plug Adapter, mentioned the OneWorld135 and OneWorld30, added a note on our OneAdaptr recommendations, and updated prices throughout.

Best Overall
Jet off to more than 200 countries with this compact adapter in your luggage, and you can charge up all your gadgets. The classic slider design pushes out EU, UK, and US plugs, and you can rotate the pins for sockets in Australia or China. I appreciate how securely the plugs lock into place, and you must press a side button to retract them. You have a universal input socket, and Ceptics has included three USB-A ports on the bottom and two USB-C ports on the side. The USB-A ports can deliver a maximum charging rate of 15.5 watts, while the USB-C ports offer up to 18 watts (one PD and one QC 3.0).
The main problem is the lack of any grounding, which is meant to reduce the risk of an electrical shock if there's a fault, such as a loose wire inside a device with a metal case. ( This video explains grounding really well. ) Thankfully, there's overload protection with an 8-amp fuse, and it comes with a spare, but you should not use this adapter with any device that has a third metal ground pin on its plug.
Upgrade Pick
Zendure's all-in-one travel adapter is what I toss in my bag first for every trip. It has a boxy design with sliding toggles to switch between US, European, and British plugs. (It covers more than 200 countries.) There’s an auto-resetting fuse to protect your gadgets from power surges, and the Passport III has a 10-amp limit. The latest version also sports a funky, translucent design with a metallic finish (purple is best). Sadly, there's no grounding, so you shouldn't use this adapter with any device that has a third metal grounding pin on its plug.
There are four USB-C ports alongside a single USB-A port and an AC socket, so you can charge six devices simultaneously. Using gallium nitride technology, Zendure was able to increase the power output of the USB-C port to 65 watts, capable of fully charging a 13-inch MacBook Pro in under two hours. That means you can leave your laptop's charging brick behind (if it charges via USB-C). There’s support for the Power Delivery (PD) and Programmable Power Supply (PPS) standards (Samsung uses PPS in its flagship range), so it can fast-charge almost any phone or tablet. It’s expensive, but this travel adapter will satisfy even the most gadget-laden of travelers.
★ A Good Alternative : The OneWorld 65 ($69) sports a very similar design, the same 65-watt charging rate, and support for more than 200 countries. But it has three USB-C and two USB-A ports. It comes in white and has a 10-amp fuse with a replacement included. WIRED readers can also get a discount with the code OneWorld65_15%Off .
Budget Pick
With the capability to work in more than 150 countries, this affordable adapter from Epicka will do the job for most people. It has sliders you push to reveal the three most common international plugs—EU, UK, and US—and you can rotate the pins for sockets in Australia or China. This plug can recharge your power-hungry devices, like laptops and camera batteries, but there are four USB-A ports on the bottom and a 15-watt USB-C port on the side for phones, tablets, smartwatches, and Kindles. It’s not as well constructed as our other universal adapter picks, but it's much cheaper.
Once again, there’s no grounding here, so don’t plug devices with a third metal ground pin into this adapter, but there is an 8-amp fuse for safety, and it comes with a spare. It is also certified by RoHS, CE, and FCC.
Best Travel Adapter Set
Universal adapters don't always work properly everywhere, and most do not have any grounding. The cheaper and more reliable alternative is to buy individual adapters. This international set from Ceptics is our favorite. It includes five types to cover most of the globe, and they are properly grounded. If you’re visiting only a single destination, just pack the relevant type. None of these adapters have any kind of USB ports, so you will need to bring the respective charging adapter for your gadgets.
This set is especially good for Europe, because it includes Type C, E/F, and G adapters (more on this below), so you’re covered for any socket. Ceptics offers an even cheaper and smaller five-piece set, but we don’t recommend it. The adapters are flimsy, there’s no grounding, and the European plug's design doesn’t work well with the recessed sockets you will sometimes encounter. The drawback of plug adapters is that they’re easy to lose, but at least Ceptics includes a small bag for storage.

Extra Outlets
What I love about this sturdy, compact plug adapter is the lack of sliding pins or moving parts to worry about and that it stays put in the outlet. Offered in several versions (Type C, Type E/F, Type G), it enables you to charge up to six gadgets. I’ve been testing the Type G model in Scotland, and it plugs into a single outlet to give you three US outlets, a USB-C port, and two USB-A ports. The USB-C can put out up to 15 watts, and the USB-A ports are limited to 12 watts, not especially speedy but fine for overnight charging. The adapter is grounded and has various safety features.
On the downside, it can be tough to make use of all the outlets simultaneously as larger plugs, like the MacBook power adapter, tend to block one of the other US outlets. It does not offer surge protection, and the Type G adapter maxes out at 3,250 watts (250 volts, 13 amps), while the EU versions top out at 2,500 watts.
For Charging Everything
This kit includes multiple plug attachments that slide and lock into place to keep you powered across most of the world. It is much larger than the average adapter, but provides two grounded US AC outlets. There is also a built-in USB-C cable, two USB-A ports, and two USB-C ports. The USB-A ports and built-in USB-C cable offer a combined maximum charging rate of 15 watts. The PD USB-C ports go up to 20 watts each. The top charging rate for all of them simultaneously is 55 watts.
There is built-in surge protection, but this is not a voltage converter, so don’t go plugging in hair dryers or other electronics that are not dual voltage. While the two AC outlets are handy, they are close together, so the shape and size of some plugs can make it tricky to use both. But with the ability to charge up to seven devices, this kit is handy. We also like the original Ceptics World Travel Adapter Kit ($36) , though it lacks the two USB-C ports.
Fast Charging
With a familiar sliding pin design, this adapter also covers more than 200 countries. Taller and heavier than our top pick, this is OneAdaptr’s most powerful release to date, and it employs gallium nitride technology to deliver up to 100 watts. Aside from the universal AC outlet, you will find two USB-C ports and two USB-A ports on the bottom. Both USB-C ports offer 100-watt charging, and both USB-A ports are 18 watts, but 100 watts is the maximum in total, so when you plug in multiple devices, it divides between them.
Almost every charging standard you can think of is supported, including PD 3.0, QC 4+, FCP, SCP, AFC, PPS, and more, so there’s a good chance you can charge your phone at the fastest rate possible. There is no grounding, so don’t plug in any gadget with a third metal pin. But there is a 10-amp fuse with a spare included, and this adapter conforms to IEC 60884, CE, and FCC standards. If you want more power or feel you can make do with less, we also tested and liked the OneWorld135 ($109) and the OneWorld30 ($39) .
Note : We have tested OneAdaptr’s range extensively and found they work well, but the company has had issues fulfilling orders, and we are concerned about the volume of negative reviews online. The company assured us that it has recently taken steps to improve fulfilment and customer service, and we will continue to monitor the situation.
Safest Option
The OneWorld PD has sliding toggles on the side that cover the US/Canada, the UK, and Australia/China, and you can pop out a much smaller stand-alone European adapter. It promises to work in more than 150 countries. There are three USB-A ports on the bottom as well as a USB-C port that supports Power Delivery and Quick Charge 3.0 to deliver up to 18 watts. That's enough to fast-charge most phones and tablets, not so much a laptop. You can plug in your laptop's AC charger to speedily juice it back up, but that means carrying the heavy charging brick around.
What sets the AC plugs apart is that each one is earthed. Most universal travel adapters offer two-pin US plugs and make the third pin on the UK plug plastic, but the OneWorld PD provides fully grounded connections for every plug type to protect you from the risk of shock due to faulty wiring. It can handle up to 10 amps. Over-current protection automatically shuts down the power if there’s abnormal usage, and it resets via a button on the top. The rare British Standard 8546 compliance guarantees that the OneWorld PD has been fully tested and is one of the safest travel adapters you can buy. The downside? It's frequently out of stock.
Note : We have tested OneAdaptr's range extensively and found they work well, but the company has had issues fulfilling orders and we are concerned about the volume of negative reviews online. The company assured us that it has recently taken steps to improve fulfilment and customer service and we will continue to monitor the situation.
For Wireless Charging
A few of the best wireless chargers can be good choices for travel. This modular system from RapidX is compact and capable of wirelessly charging two phones at up to 10 watts each, which makes it a good option for couples or families. The beauty is that you can add or remove pods, and a single charging cable can power up to five. They snap together magnetically and pull apart for easy packing. You can also get additional phone pods ($15) , and there’s a version with a phone pod and an Apple Watch pod ($45) .
You get a 30-watt US power adapter and a 5-foot USB-C cable in the box, so you will still want a travel adapter to pair with this system. If you plan to add pods, you will want a more powerful adapter. (RapidX recommends 65 watts or above for three or more devices.)
For Apple Devices
This handy trio of chargers keeps your iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods ticking and folds neatly into a felt carrying case for travel. The magnetic pad in the center can charge your iPhone at the fastest 15-watt rate, the Apple Watch dock pops up for Nightstand mode (sadly no fast charging here), and there is a grooved spot for your AirPods. It is compact and lightweight, and charges all three devices from a single cable and outlet. A 30-watt US wall adapter and a short USB-C to USB-C cable are included, but you must pair this with a travel adapter. We recommend this Mophie charger for travelers in our guide to the best Apple 3-in-1 wireless chargers .
International Plug Types and Universal Adapters
There are 15 plug types in use across the world. Type A and Type B are used in the US, Canada, Mexico, and Japan; Type C is common across Europe, South America, and Asia; Type E and Type F are found across Europe in places like Germany, Russia, and France; Type G is used in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and a handful of other places; and Type I is used in Australia, New Zealand, China, and Argentina. Universal adapters tend to cover all of these types.
Some countries are not usually covered by universal adapters, such as India ( Type D ), Israel ( Type H ), and South Africa ( Type M or N ). You'll need to buy specific plug adapters for those places. To avoid any surprises when you land, double-check what type you need before you travel.
If you're visiting just one destination, a basic plug adapter that caters to one plug type is all you need. For trips to multiple destinations or for frequent flyers, a universal travel adapter can prove more versatile. The universal adapters we recommend here have the bonus of including multiple USB ports for charging several mobile devices from a single outlet.
A Word on Voltage Converters
Voltage converters are big, heavy, and expensive, and they don’t always work, so it’s probably best not to buy one. The reason you might think you need one is that the AC sockets on all of our recommended travel adapters do not convert the voltage coming from the socket. This means plugging into a UK socket will deliver 220 volts at 50 hertz, which is very different from the 120 volts at 60 hertz you can expect in the US. Don't worry! Your gear won't get fried. You just need to make sure anything you plug into one of these universal travel adapters has something like this printed on it:
Input: 100–220V 50/60Hz .
That should include most modern gadgets. If your device or charger can’t handle a variable voltage, it’s probably best to leave it at home. Most places provide hair dryers , irons, and kettles, so there’s no need to take them with you. It's often cheaper to buy a set with the correct plug at your destination and save the luggage space and hassle.

Howdy Michele, I love to travel. I’ve read so many posts about travel gadgets, but you are the best one. Your article was beneficial in finding the necessary devices. I personally like an anti-theft shockproof backpack, which is ScanSmart TSA friendly and water-resistant. It is useful for everyone.
Thank you so much, Kim 🙂
Hello, I have gone through your guide and seems to be interesting though I have one more concern on the WiFi devices. Can you recommend me on the best Pocket Device that will work well on anywhere I travel. I have using AllDayWifi but its very slow on their international data plan. I have been considering RentnConnect though I know very little about it
Hi Collins, have you considered this Skyroam device ? It one of the leaders in the market and very compact.
What about this Trackimo 3G Travel Tracker device this has Light Exposure Sensor – detect/alerts when package or luggage is opened. I am currently using this tracker and i found this very useful to me every time i go travel around the world 🙂
Excellent addition Helen, thank you 🙂
A tracking device would be a great addition to this list.
Amazing! This makes traveling easier.
Definitely brilliant ideas worth sharing
This IS such a cool list! I thought I had everything, but then I found out the door travel alarm (never would’ve thought of it)!. And I wonder how good the neck support (#33) is because there were PLENTY of times I could have used something like that on my trips.
Hey Trang, the door alarm is such a great idea especially for those times when you just don’t feel safe 🙂 Is there anything you’d add to the list?
I just carry a small rubber door stop wedge.
WOW! This is one extensive list of all things travel and certainly one that I will be using to give hints to my friends and family round the holiday season. The new ScanSmart backpack along with the waterproof phone case and solar charger are on top of my list. However my top two purchases are going to be the smart suitcase and the backpack which are absolutely brilliant. Thanks for such a cool list.
Hi Michele, There are all great ideas. I have one more suggestion for you. Smart Blanket! I used it when flying to Zurich to see my son and his family. The plane was freezing, and there were no blankets to be had. I was the only one that was warm and cozy for the whole 8 hours. I love mine. Got it on Amazon http://amzn.to/2hTYlOP I paid $49.00 for mine. Think they are having a sale on them now. Hope you like my suggestion.
The door alarm and aeroplane pillow are a great idea to stay comfy and safe! I always take an extension lead when I travel; so that I have more plug sockets in a hotel room, and it also means you don’t need as many adapters when you travel. You also can’t go wrong with baby wipes and small-ish plastic bags in case a seat is wet, a bottle is leaking or you’ve got a mark on your clothes! ✈️?
All brilliant ideas Emily 🙂 Thanks for sharing. I love the baby wipes idea!

Travel Hack: Why Our Experts Recommend Using Packing Cubes
Packing your suitcase and fitting everything in the right place isn’t always as easy as it sounds. While most bags these days include a compartment or two for undergarments, clothing and other essentials, items can shift around while in transit or get lost underneath a stack of shirts. To keep your bag in order, Senior Textiles Product Analyst at the Good Housekeeping Institute’s Textiles Lab, Emma Seymour , recommends investing in a few packing cubes, like this set from Eagle Creek . “Packing cubes are small bags designed to keep your clothes organized and less wrinkled in your luggage,” Emma says. They not only help keep your belongings organized during your trip, but also when you arrive at your destination. When using packing cubes, Emma suggests packing your clothes into the cubes first, then fitting the pieces into your bag like a puzzle. “You can even get packing cubes with built-in compression, so squeezing in that extra outfit (or two!) is no big deal. Whether you’re backpacking or traveling with a hard-shell carry-on, “most packing cubes are available in sets that include various sizes, ideal for organizing intimates and larger pieces.” And once you’ve arrived at your destination and are unpacking your suitcase, GH pros recommend placing the packing cubes directly into the drawers to keep your clothes protected from unknown surfaces.

What to Look For?
Travel adapters can have anywhere from 1 to 5 to however many ports. If you don’t travel around with lots of devices, then you’ll make do with a few USB ports to keep the adapter small and portable. However, be on the lookout for the amount you will need to simultaneously charge all your devices. Just in case.
Safety Features
Some travel adapters are just that – adapters. The better ones have built-in safety features like fuses, which can be very handy if your equipment is super expensive. This is important especially if you plan to charge several devices simultaneously or plugin a high voltage hairdryer like my girlfriend did a few months ago! Goodbye travel adapter.
Power Capacity
Not all adapters are converters. While adapters are convenient, you’ll still have to be aware of the power output of the sockets you’re plugging into if you’re not carrying a travel converter. This is a bigger issue if you travel far and wide and venture outside your own country or continent, where power/voltage changes can be big (120 vs 240 for example).
I come from Australia and we use 240, but the USA uses 120. Just go give you an example.

Best Travel Adapter for International Travel
A travel adapter keeps you charged up and ready to go, regardless of the destination. Here’s a list to help you find the best universal adapter for you.
Even before the age where smartphones ruled the pockets of travelers, a plug adapter was an essential piece of gear. You can get away without one if you travel to nearby countries most of the time (we’re talking a border or two), but if you’re going further away or to a unique place, you’ll likely need a universal adapter. We’ve come up with a list of the best travel adapters, whether you’re hoping to charge up your phone after a long day or use your curling iron before a photoshoot at the Eiffel Tower. Some will work on your desk at work, others are small enough to fit into your travel sling , and some come with a carrying case to stow in your travel backpack . No matter what you’re looking for, we’ve got you covered.
Before diving into these outlet adapters, let’s talk about voltage and how to ensure your gear doesn’t get fried. Many newer electronics are dual voltage, meaning they can handle a variety of voltages. In the United States and Canada, most plugs are 120 volts, so devices made there cater to those requirements. However, many places worldwide have a higher voltage, namely 220, which is expected around Europe. If you plug a 120-volt device into a 220-volt outlet with an outlet adapter, your device may be damaged. However, some adapters are also converters, which change the voltage and won’t fry your device. Before you head out on your trip, look at the voltage where you’re going, the voltage on the devices you’re bringing, and whether you have an adapter, a converter, or both.

Why We Like It: Has a self-repairing fuse so you’re never without an adapter.
What You Should Know: Removing and storing the adapter takes some practice.
There’s a reason we put the MOGICS Super Bagel on the third iteration of our Digital Nomad Packing List —we dig this thing! It’s shaped like, you guessed it, a bagel and utilizes that shape to fit five sockets, an extension cable, and a plug adapter in the middle. There’s also a USB-A and a USB-C port snuck into the mix, too, so you don’t need to bring an extra block if you don’t want to.
The “hole” in the center is occupied by the travel adapter, which has U.K., AU, and EU wall socket adapters. A built-in fuse resets itself after a surge, which comes in handy in countries with unstable power supplies. Some users have noticed issues with the fuse not resetting itself; however, we typically find it’s ready to roll in an hour or less.
We even spent a month with this adapter in Thailand and South Korea, and the extension cable was endlessly helpful staying juiced up during long days of working in a coffee shop. Wherever you go, the Super Bagel is a universal adapter that won’t disappoint!
Why We Like It: A classic design most people are used to.
What You Should Know: Can be shaky in a plug when using heavy wall chargers.
If you’re looking for a simple universal adapter that won’t break the bank, look no further than the Road Warrior Universal Travel Plug Adapter. The pieces come together like a transformer to assemble a plug adapter that will work in over 150 countries worldwide. Plus, at under $20, it won’t break the bank.
Some users have had issues with the pieces staying together, especially if the thing you plug into the universal adapter is heavy. However, we’ve always been able to make it work, even in the most precarious situations. There’s no ground, so if you bring a device that requires that, you might need to go with a different universal adapter.
Colorway might not be your number one priority for a universal adapter. Still, the four options available from Road Warrior are a nice breath of fresh air and enable you to pick a model that goes with your flow.
Why We Like It: Works both at home and abroad
What You Should Know: There’s no outlet, just USB ports
Finding the best travel adapter can feel like finding a needle in a haystack. There are many excellent options for wall chargers; however, the options for a universal adapter that you can plug into are far more limited. Finally, those two worlds collided, and we’re here for it. The Futurizta Pixy 33W GAN PD Universal Charger takes everything you love about your wall charger at home and makes it work across the globe.
Upon initial inspection, it looks like a standard wall charger. However, the end is replaceable, so you can bring the pieces you need for each trip and nothing more. There’s a USB-A and USB-C port on the back end, which can be used simultaneously. This works well if you’re bringing devices that don’t need much power, as the charger maxes out at 33W. You will need something more significant if you bring a MacBook Pro with an M3 chip. However, for most users, this universal charger will work splendidly.
Why We Like It: It converts your Mac charger into another port.
What You Should Know: Isn’t useful for users without a Mac charger.
Do you have a MacBook that charges with a USB-C cable with a large white brick? If so, the Twelve South PlugBug World is the universal adapter for you. It slides onto the end of your brick, converting the outlet from wherever you’re traveling, and adds an extra port so you can charge your laptop and another device simultaneously.
If you don’t have a MacBook with the standard wall charger, this isn’t the best travel adapter for you. However, if you need to travel with your MacBook and want a simple charging solution for your other devices, like your iPhone or Apple Watch, the PlugBug World is a great shout. From Detroit to Delhi, you can stay charged up.
Why We Like It: It has four USB ports for charging.
What You Should Know: It’s pretty heavy and may fall out of some outlets.
If you’re sick of the standard design and want something that isn’t as bulky, the CARD Travel Adapter 4-Pro is worth considering. It’s roughly the size of a wallet and has everything you need for your trip in one container. The adapters are stowed in the back behind a panel, and there’s an extra fuse in case you blow the first one.
Depending on what cables you already have, there are a few options for you. There’s a model with a USB-A port, two USB-A ports, four USB-A ports, and one with three USB-A ports and one USB-C port. The last option offers the most charging capabilities, so we opted for that one, although it is the largest of the four. If you don’t have many devices to charge while traveling, one of the smaller options might be a better outlet adapter for you!
Why We Like It: The materials are durable.
What You Should Know: It doesn’t have any USB ports.
The Targus World Power adapter is a durable option for travelers who want a self-contained set. The design is compact enough to fit in your sling or daypack and includes adapters that will work in the United States, Europe, the United Kingdom, Asia, and Australia.
The adapter doesn’t have any USB ports, so you’ll need to bring a wall charger to charge your phone and other small devices. However, this enables you to bring the charger you’re used to, which means you know what you’re getting yourself into. This universal adapter's most significant selling point is its durability—as it’s constructed from polycarbonate plastic.
Whether you’re going to Seattle or Sydney, this adapter has you covered!
Why We Like It: It can convert power for those coming from lower voltage regions.
What You Should Know: The adapter is a bit bulky.
The HYTED Travel Adapter and Converter is an excellent shout for trips requiring power conversion. It converts 220V outlets to 110-120V, so you can use and charge your devices without worry that a foreign outlet will overpower them. It has a fuse, which can’t be replaced, but will protect your gear from being destroyed should it surge.
The adapter will work in over 150 countries across the globe so that you can take it on nearly any trip. The universal adapter is a little bulky but self-contained, so there aren’t any extra bits or bobs to worry about losing.
No matter where you end up, this outlet adapter will keep you charged up and your gear safe from power that’s too strong!
Why We Like It: Five total USB ports is great for charging.
What You Should Know: On the more expensive side.
For the USB-C cable lover, the Zendure Universal Travel Adapter is the move! It has four USB-C plugs to charge all your devices simultaneously, and it has a spare USB-A plug for good measure. It maxes out at 65 watts, so you can charge some laptops at full speed. For devices like a phone, Nintendo Switch, or headphones, you’ll get rates you’re used to at home!
It isn’t the cheapest adapter we’ve found; however, it can adapt to outlets in over 200 countries. It won’t adapt power, so checking the voltage of the countries you’re visiting is essential. All the pieces are contained inside the brick, so you don’t have to worry about losing any small parts.
If you don’t have many USB-C cables and don’t plan to convert to the dark side any time soon, this might not be the universal adapter for you. However, for the USB-C lover, this is an excellent plug adapter.
Why We Like It: A simple design that’s easy to use.
What You Should Know: The design isn’t anything revolutionary.
Sometimes, you just need an outlet adapter that gets the job done. The Mingtong adapter falls into that category. The device has two USB-A ports to charge devices, and there’s a model with a USB-C port to replace one USB-A if that’s your style. Plus, it’ll work in over 150 countries, which is what really matters.
You can also insert a standard plug in so you can use things other than a USB cable. All the moving parts are attached to the device so you won’t lose anything essential. It’s a little bulky, and the design isn’t anything to write home about, but this universal adapter gets the job done, no matter where your journey takes you.
It won’t convert 220V outlets for use with 110V devices, so be sure to know what voltage your destination uses before you depart!
Why We Like It: Super colorful and fun looking.
What You Should Know: We worry about long-term durability.
Do you like gear that’s as colorful as you are? If so, you’re in luck because we’ve got the best travel adapter for you. The FLIGHT 001 5-In-1 Adapter has five saturated and fun pieces to look at, which brings a bit of fun to any charging situation you may find yourself in.
The output is two USB-A ports, so you can charge two devices simultaneously. This is an outlet adapter, not a power converter, so be sure to check the voltage of your destination. The colors make it easy to remember which piece goes where, so you can get into the swing of adapting the outlet more quickly.
The design is a bit large, and we worry about long-term durability; however, this thing is fun as heck to use, which is worth commending. Come on; it’s a universal adapter, after all!
Why We Like It: The plug rotates to ensure it can fit into hard to reach outlets.
What You Should Know: It doesn’t convert power.
One of the most frustrating things while traveling is returning to your hotel after a long day of adventuring to recharge for the night and being unable to get your tech to work right. A common occurrence with a bulky plug adapter is not being able to fit them into the outlet or not being able to fit your wall charger because of an inconveniently placed plug. Enter the DOACE Ace3.
This universal adapter has a rotating head, so you can turn it to miss corners and make charging your devices more accessible. One side has a single grounded outlet, and the other has two outlets with one ground between them so that you can plug in one grounded item or two non-grounded things.
The adapter doesn’t convert power, so look up the voltage of the country you’re visiting before you hit the airport. We love the design offered by this universal adapter, and it makes charging your devices that much easier!
Why We Like It: The large wattage capacity is great for larger devices.
What You Should Know: It doesn’t have a standard outlet, just ports.
If you’re searching for a wall charger you can use on your desk at home and abroad, look no further than the OTAO 200W USB-C Wall Charger. It has outlets for various plug types worldwide, so you have the option to only bring the ones you need. Plus, it comes with an extension cord that you can use on type A and type B outlets at home on your desk.
Plus, this thing has ports on ports on ports. There are two 100-watt USB-C plugs, a 65-watt USB-C plug, and a 60-watt USB-A plug. However, the device is capped at 200 watts, so you won’t get full throttle from every port if you have four things plugged in.
There’s no standard outlet, so it won’t work for your bathroom accessories. However, this is one of the best universal adapters for content creators and travelers who like to bring multiple devices.
Why We Like It: It has two outlets and two USB ports for charging and bathroom products.
What You Should Know: The pieces are easy to lose.
If you want multiple outlets and USB ports, your options for a European plug adapter are limited. However, the outlet adapter from SublimeWare has you covered. It transforms outlets from over a hundred countries and is grounded in most, so your gear is protected from surges. The pieces that do the adapting aren’t connected, so you can only bring what you need, but they’re relatively easy to lose track of.
The device comes with a bag to keep it in, so you are less likely to lose pieces. It can’t convert 200—240 volt power sources, so look up the voltage of the countries you’re visiting beforehand. However, with two type-B outlets and two USB-A plugs, you’re ready to take on dozens of countries.
Whether you were looking for a way to use your curling iron on Crete or charge your drone in Denver, we think you’ll find the best travel adapter for you somewhere on this list. Power up, and enjoy the rest of your trip!

The Gadgets We Bring on Every Trip
Updated March 15, 2024
We’ve reviewed this list and added a few new picks.
We've tested hundreds of gadgets, packed (and overpacked) for dozens of trips, flown hundreds of thousands of miles, and worked remotely from all over the world. But you don't have to be a digital nomad or a tech expert to travel like one. Here are a few gadgets and accessories to make travel as painless as possible via plane, train, or automobile, as well as at your destination.
Packing well means bringing only what you need. Pick things that are light, durable, and versatile.
Multiport USB wall charger
If you’re packing multiple chargers, it’s time to get something better. A single multiport USB charger can quickly charge all your devices at the same time and is barely bigger than the one that comes with a tablet. Some can even charge a laptop.
Affordable, fast, and compact, this four-port 40-watt USB-A charger is great for use at home or on the road.
This compact charger can power almost any USB-C laptop at top speed, and it works great for lower-powered devices, too.
Portable power strip
Packing a power strip that turns a single available outlet into three is an easy way to make quick friends out of potential enemies at airports, hostels, or anywhere outlets are at a premium.
This compact strip gives you three AC outlets and two USB power ports but doesn’t take up much space in a bag or weigh you down.
With 3 AC outlets, 2 USB-A ports, and 1 USB-C, this compact little cube has 5 feet of extension cord and will easily charge even power-hungry MacBooks. About the size of a tennis ball, it packs up easily into your carry-on and comes with an 18-month warranty.
USB power bank
A power bank ensures that your phone never runs out of battery when you need it.
This power bank is small and light, and it has enough capacity to charge most smartphones up to three times.
Cables and adapters for your devices
Your devices won't do you much good if you don't have the right cables to charge them. We suggest packing a spare for any mission-critical gear (in a separate bag if possible) just in case you lose one.
Anker’s PowerLine Lightning cables are fast, sturdy, and inexpensive, plus they come with a lifetime warranty. The 6-foot version is great for travel, when conveniently placed outlets are in short supply.
This cable is MFi-certified, sturdily built, and comfortable to grip, and it has a lifetime warranty. The 6-foot version is long enough to reach from a wall outlet to a nightstand or desk.
Anker’s PowerLine cables are fast, sturdy, and inexpensive, plus they come with a great warranty. The 6-foot version is great for travel.
This 6.6-foot cable rated for 100 watts can recharge even large laptops such as the 16-inch MacBook Pro, but it supports only USB 2.0 data-transfer speeds.
This cable can charge any USB-C laptop, even the 16-inch MacBook Pro, at full speed. It’s overkill (and short) for charging a phone, though.
Noise-cancelling headphones
Noise-cancelling headphones make it easier to hear music or movies over whatever cacophony is playing out around you. Or just wear them without sound to luxuriate in your private sanctuary.
The ideal travel companion, this pair of earbuds offers excellent noise cancellation, great sound, and long battery life.
The Bose 700 headphones deliver excellent noise cancellation in a comfortable, lightweight design that’s traveler friendly.
Virtual private network subscription
A VPN can keep your phone, laptop, or tablet secure when you’re logging in from public Wi-Fi; it can also help you get around regional censors and access the US version of sites while you’re abroad.
Mullvad is transparent about its security and privacy practices. The VPN offers reliable connections and is easy to use on laptops, phones, and tablets.
Two-factor authenticator app
Two-factor authentication gives you an extra layer of security for your important accounts. An app is more secure than SMS verification and works without a cell or data connection.
Duo Mobile is free, available on both Android and iPhone, and easy to use, and its security features are better than those of other two-factor authentication apps.
Password manager
A password manager is essential all the time, but it’s especially important when you’re traveling, so your passwords stay strong, secure, and accessible wherever you are in the world.
1Password now offers its extensive set of bells and whistles across all major platforms, including Windows and Chrome OS. With excellent security and a clear user interface, it’s the password manager to beat.
The free version of Bitwarden covers all the basics of a good password manager and doesn’t cost anything. But it lacks a feature that checks password strength and doesn’t have encrypted file storage.
Nice-to-haves
For long trips and international journeys, here are some optional items to keep you connected, organized, and entertained.
Bluetooth tracker
If you want to locate your luggage in case an airline loses your bag or you accidentally leave it somewhere, a Bluetooth tracker can help you keep tabs on your items.
AirTags use Apple’s huge network of devices to track down lost items, and they’re impressively accurate in pinpointing an item’s precise location.
The Tile Mate has a long range and takes up virtually no space in a suitcase. Its network isn’t as extensive as Apple’s, but it’s the best Android-compatible tracker we’ve tested.
Cable organizer bag
A bag can keep your cables, adapters, dongles, and small electronics stowed neatly and easily accessible.
The fine mesh makes it easy to see what these zip-top bags contain (though isn't water resistant), and the bags come in two sizes and colors so you can create a modular system for your cables, cosmetics, or whatever else you need.
Laptop backpack
A good backpack will protect your laptop from damage, and keep all your stuff organized and easy to find.
Refined details—including leather accents and gunmetal hardware—elevate this travel-friendly pack’s simple silhouette.
Travel plug adapter
Most modern electronic power supplies can work with voltages from 100 to 250 V, but you still need an adapter for the wall socket if you're traveling internationally.
Small, simple, and cheap, this set is perfect for someone who wants to carry only the adapter they’ll need and who already has a multiport USB wall charger they like.
With four plugs that will work in most countries, plus built-in faster-charging USB ports, this adapter has more features for a little more money.
Portable AC battery pack
If you have a laptop that doesn't charge via USB, an AC battery pack will charge it (and all your USB devices too).
This portable charger has an AC outlet, two fast-charging USB-C ports, and a USB-A port, and it can charge even the most power-hungry laptops while they’re in use. But you need to provide your own wall charger.
Ebook reader or tablet
With an e-reader or tablet, you can enjoy endless entertainment—whether it's books, comics, movies, or games—in a slim package.
This Kindle’s features and price, coupled with Amazon’s vast collection of reading material, make it the best device dedicated to reading.
The standard iPad is fast, easy to use, and compatible with the Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard, and it offers the features most tablet users need.
International phone plan
Most phones now work worldwide, but international roaming can be nearly free or outrageously expensive. We’ve researched the best mobile phone services for the majority of frequent international travelers.
With coverage in more than 210 countries and no international data roaming fees, T-Mobile Magenta is the best plan for most people who travel frequently and already own their phone.
Streaming stick
A portable media streamer can make a hotel room TV feel like your TV at home.
Easy to set up, the Roku stick supports huge numbers of streaming channels, works with hotel Wi-Fi portals, and gets all the power it needs from the TV's USB port. And its smartphone app lets you leave the remote at home.
USB data blocker
USB data blockers let you charge your devices from other peoples' USB ports (including charging kiosks) without the risk of their accessing your phone's data or infecting it with malware.
The PortaPow lets you charge your phone or other USB device from a USB port without worrying about accidental data transfer or malware infection, and unlike some others, it won't limit your charging speed.
Nintendo Switch
The Switch is a great home game console but also a great portable console for travel.
If you want a console you can disconnect from the TV and take with you, or if you just prefer Nintendo’s games, the Switch is for you.
If you don't want to risk your laptop or the data on it, a Chromebook is inexpensive, secure, and ideal for international travel. You can even wipe it before you travel and set it up when you get to your destination.
Reliable performance, a spacious touch display, and long-enough battery life for a full workday make this model the best Chromebook for the price.
This Asus model is a less expensive option that doesn’t sacrifice performance, but its non-touch display isn’t as tall, vibrant, or convenient as that of our top pick.
Things to skip
Global travel SIM card
These are very expensive for what they offer. You're better off with a local SIM, a good international data plan, or a phone that supports eSIM so you can activate a local data plan without buying a physical SIM card.
International hotspot
We haven't yet found an international hotspot worth the money. A better bet is to rent one upon arrival, find a hotel or café with Wi-Fi, or tether from your phone.

Bring this on your next long-haul flight, train ride, or road trip—your head and neck will thank you later.
If you're headed on a red-eye flight, a sleep mask is a non-negotiable. Use the Find My app on your phone to track your tag and never worry about where your luggage is ever again.
Is there a travel bag more versatile or more chic than good leather tote? Traveler contributor Lydia Mansel raved about Cuyana's popular Classic Easy Zipper Tote . The brand gave the Easy Tote a little facelift in 2023—it can now be fully zipped, making it an even more secure travel companion. It's lightweight, sleek, and the quality speaks for itself. You'll have this thing for years to come.
Calpak's Luka duffel is the perfect travel bag for weekend trips or long-haul flights (we like to use it as a personal item ). Carry it by its soft top handles or by its long adjustable strap. Features we love: the separate shoe compartment, trolley sleeve, and the several internal pockets to keep you organized. I've used many duffel bags over the years, but this one reigns supreme.
Every packing list has to have a pair of comfortable walking shoes on it. We appreciate the effortless cool look and feel of New Balance shoes, especially the 547 Core sneaker. There's no break-in time needed and I've never gotten any blisters after wearing these—even after a long day trip.
If you haven't tried a pair of Allbirds yet, what are you waiting for? The brand is known for its ultra-lightweight, comfortable kicks—the kind that make sightseeing all day long on your feet a breeze. The Tree Runners are versatile enough to pack on any trip and take up little suitcase space.
We all need some comfortable loungewear, whether you're working from home, boarding a long flight, or just relaxing in your hotel room. We love matching sets like one from Cozy Earth—the pullover and joggers are supremely soft, cool to the touch, and offer a perfectly relaxed fit without being too baggy.
When it comes to packing toiletries like shampoo and conditioner, body wash, and moisturizer, you're going to need some leakproof, reusable travel bottles . Our editors swear by Cadence capsules: These airtight, magnetic capsules stay neatly together in your Dopp kit , take up little space, and are designed without any right angles or edges, so you can get as much product out as possible (this also makes them so easy to clean). Customize everything about your Cadence set—from the color and size to the number of capsules to what each label says. And while the original small capsules are a nice size for short trips, you can also grab the The Extender —an add-on that allows you to increase the size of the bottle when you need more room.
When Amazon Prime Day rolled around in July and then again in October, noise-canceling headphones were scooped up in droves. There are a lot of popular options on the market we love, like the Beats Studio3 wireless headphones. They'll block out all that extra noise on your next flight and let you comfortably listen to all your favorite movies in peace.
More noise-canceling gear we recommend: the Apple AirPods Pro wireless ear buds. If you haven't tried these yet, now is the perfect time. These tiny earbuds come in an ultra-compact case that is small enough to fit in a crossbody bag or running waist pack. I use these every day—while I'm hiking, running, commuting to the office, and everything in between.
Exercise dresses are still having a moment. The sporty yet feminine dress is reimagining activewear—it can be worn just as effortlessly to a workout class or a game of pickleball as it can be to a lunch date. Of our favorite styles, you loved this option from Outdoor Voices most. It offers breathable built-in shorts, adjustable straps, and side pockets, with a flattering silhouette that's neither tight nor restrictive. We have a feeling these will be just as popular again come spring.
Packing an umbrella seems like a waste of space, until you find yourself in a downpour without one. Traveler contributor Claire Volkman put a dozen options to the test ; this sturdy, wind-resistant, lightweight, and compact option from Weatherman was her favorite overall.
Keep your phone safe while at the beach, in a kayak, or on a boat with this waterproof pouch from Pelican. It comes with a lanyard to wear around your neck, but if it does go overboard, you can rest easy knowing it'll float on the surface.
It's nearly impossible to keep clothes wrinkle-free in your suitcase. This becomes especially tricky when you're traveling for a special occasion, say a destination wedding , and you need to touch up formal wear upon arrival. This lightweight, portable steamer was a huge hit with our readers—and we see why: It weighs less than a pound, is easy to pack in your suitcase, and offers 10 minutes of continuous steam. The Nesugar steamer comes with a convenient wall mount, too, so you can keep it neat and tidy back at home.

Travel Gear
Updated On: January 23, 2024
Our travel gear has evolved over the years, and while there are still a few old standby items that we recommend, there are a lot of new ideas for you to add to your travel list too. Things have changed a lot in travel. We have to think about a few more things when stepping on a plane, eating out, and staying in hotels. We’ve updated our travel packing list to include the best travel gear for 2023 and beyond!
Table of Contents
Best Travel Gear and Travel Accessories
Enjoy our suggestions of items to add to your travel gear list.
When we travel, we carry a lot of electronics including cameras, computers, iPhones even a drone. It’s our job, so we go overboard with gear, you don’t have to carry so much, but the travel gear listed below are great options to support the electronics you bring with you. For charging, storing, and keeping everything safe we’ve got you covered.
Cool Travel Tech Gear
1. Belkin Mini Surge Protector
The Belkin Surge Protector has three plugs to charge multiple items as well as two USB ports to charge things like your iPhone or camera. We can charge five items at once and only have to carry one adapter with us. The surge protector also ensures that our electronics never get fried in unstable environments. We travel to some sketchy destinations and it’s not uncommon for power surges that could easily ruin your computer.
2. Portable USB Charger
Have you ever made a point of going into a coffee shop or restaurant just to use a plug to charge your phone? Well, if you get yourself a portable USB external battery charger you won’t have to worry about missing calls or updating facebook during your travels ever again.
Make sure to get one with two outlets and 20000 mAh so you have lots of charges. We’ve charged GoPros and cameras with our portable chargers and never miss a shot! This has been a lifesaver on safaris when we’re out all day and the batteries go dead on our cameras. We never miss a shot!
3. World Travel Adapter
Forget all the different adapters you used to have to dig out of a drawer before traveling, now you can get all the world’s power outlets in one cube. The World Travel Adapters have come a long way. Wherever you land, you’ll have the right plug at your fingertips in one compact place. All you have to do is fold or pull out the right plug for the right country and you are good to go. We will never go back to the old individual adapters. Check it out.

4. Gear Ties
Have you noticed that with all the electronics that we’re all carrying, our charging cables are getting all mixed up and tangled? When we pack our iPhone cables, computer chords, and camera chargers, we wrap up all the loose ends with Gear Ties They’re way better than tape or zip ties because they coil and uncoil with ease.
Best Travel Organizers
5. Packing Cubes
These nylon sacks help to organize our gear and clothing and free up a lot of space. I put my clothes in color-coded cubes. Underwear in white, shirts in red, shorts and skirts in blue. They are lightweight and durable and we have had some of our packing cubes for nearly a decade. We can stuff our clothing into them and have a completely neat trip back. We recently read that Eagle Creek has gone out of business, but they are still on Amazon for now here at Eagle Creek Pack-It Specter Cubes . That is what we use, but you can also look at Osprey Ultralight Packing Cube Set
6. Compression Cubes
If you want to save space in your travel bags, Compression Cubes are an amazing addition. The Eagle Creek Compression Cube Set is an excellent choice. They act as stuff sacks where we can cram our clothes into a bag and then zip it closed to free up even more space in our backpacks. We cram odds and ends in, pack it to the max and then use the second zipper to compress it down to a small and neat little bag holding everything.
7. Toiletry Bag
A good toiletry bag has really kept us organized, neat, and clean. The Packit Wallaby is a great organizer that we can hang on the back of doors. Its zipper pockets keep things from falling out and it is compact enough that it doesn’t take up the space of bulky leather toiletry bags. Read more: Best Travel Organizers for Smarter Packing
8. Foldable Hiking Bag
Even if we are staying at a five-star resort and using our travel pro suitcase instead of a backpack, we like to keep a small foldable hiking bag on hand. This bag is a great lightweight option to add to your packing list. It saves space, is very lightweight, and folds up to pocket size. It is perfect to fill with beach items and essential hiking gear and it can hold some small photography equipment. We always have it as part of our travel gear list. Check it out on Amazon
Another accessory we keep in our bag is a small waterproof dry bag. Get dry bags that are lightweight. when kayaking, hiking through rain, or heading out on a boat, we love having our photography gear and even our wallets in a waterproof bag rather than a regular bag. Plus, if you are kayaking or canoeing, you can hook the bag onto the boat so you won’t lose your valuables. Buy it now
Unique Travel Gadgets
10. Hidden USB
Luckily she was organized and had all her travel documents backed up. You too can keep backups of all your documents in a USB that never has to leave your body. USB Bracelets and necklaces can hold all backups of your travel documents in one place. Get your Hidden USB here.
11. PacSafe Products
If you are traveling to an area where you don’t feel completely secure or if you are taking a lot of public transportation, we highly recommend PacSafe .
When traveling India, we wrapped the PacSafe’s steel coil around our bags and locked them to our seats and slept easily with peace of mind. When we stayed in questionable accommodation, we’d put all our electronics inside and lock them to something secure. It is amazing for peace of mind.
Read more at The Best Anti Theft Travel Bags and Accessories Another option for this is to get a padlock and bike chain. It doesn’t completely cover your bags, but it does secure your bags.
- Pacsafe RFIDsafe Blocking Travel Organizer – This carries all my money, passports, and credit cards and it blocks anyone trying to steal our information.
- PacSafe Bag Protector – the steel net goes around your luggage or backpack protecting against theft and you can lock it to anything. This is the best travel gear for anyone backpacking, staying in dorms, and taking a lot of public transport.
12. Iron Socket VPN
While it isn’t exactly a travel gadget and is more of a virtual gadget, this is a great addition for any traveler. If you are using public wireless wifi, a VPN can help to add security to your computer. If you have to do banking, you can cloak your IP address keeping others off your system. A VPN is a must for travel to countries like China too. Behind the iron curtain, you can still access Twitter and Facebook. We also love watching TV when traveling but we find that a lot of our favorite shows aren’t available overseas. A VPN allows you to change your computer’s IP address. Check out Iron Socket VPN
13. E Sim Card
We use Airola for our international sim card. It is a virtual e-sim and we don’t need to change any SIM Cards or put on any stickers. We just purchase data before leaving for our destination and then when we land, we activate the e-sim switching easily from our home sim to our travel sim.
14. Portable Wifi
We’ve been taking things one step further than a SIM Card these days. While traveling in Europe and always rent a MiFi. It’s a personal wifi that uses 3G and allows up to 5 devices at one time to use the Internet. It’s amazing to keep up to date on work and to stay connected with your friends and family.
You order it online and they deliver it to your hotel when you arrive. Once you are done with it, you send it back in the return envelope and you are all done. It’s that easy. There are a few options, we tend to use TepWireless.
Electronics Travel Gear
If you want to take your organization even further, this top-rated electronics organizer is economical, well laid out, durable, and the perfect size for traveling. What I like about its multiple elastic loops for all our cords and it has a holder for SD cards as well. See it here: BAGSMART Electronic Organizer Travel
15. Laptop or Tablet
Even the regular traveler who isn’t working might want to carry a laptop or tablet these days. I have read that remote controls carry a ton of germs. Download your favorite series or travel movies and watch them on your laptop and then you can avoid the entertainment system on the plane and in your hotel room. My laptop has become one of my most used pieces of travel gear. The Macbook Pro 13 inch is small and lightweight like a MacBook Air, but it has the power of a full MacBook Pro for video and photography editing.
16. Portable Hard Drive
When taking travel photos, you want to make sure that you have memories to take home with you. It’s important to back up your photos while on vacation. I’m not lying when I say that we’ve met more than one person who has lost all their photos during their and didn’t back them up. Even if you want to keep the photos on your SIM Card until you get home, back them up on a hard drive too. We love the Samsung T5 2TB hard Drive. This tiny hard drive is as lightweight as it gets, it hold a ton of data and is high quality. I can edit videos directly on this.
17. Noise Cancelling Headphones or EarBuds
Whether you are on a flight, a bus, or a train, noise-canceling headphones are a lifesaver. Many times people are talking too loud, children are crying or there is a lot of noise in general. We put on our noise-canceling headphones (We like Apple’s earbuds pro) and with some mellow music, we sleep like a charm.
18. GoPro Hero 9
For waterproof sports cameras, you really can’t beat the GoPro. We have been using GoPros since they first came out and the GoPro Hero 9 is revolutionary. With a front screen, and a great mic for adventure travel (you don’t necessarily need an external mic for quick talking). It is waterproof, takes high-quality 5k video, and has amazing steadiness if fits all our needs. Add it to your travel gear today. Details here.
19. Kindle Paper White
I actually prefer reading on my iPad, but I have a Kindle as well and it’s great for the outdoors or in bright sun. Save browsing books on the shelf and browse on your own device so that you can sanitize and read with ease. Kindles are great for travel. They are lightweight, free up space (in comparison to several books) and save money. My Kindle editions of books are cheaper than hard copies. Get this Kindle Paper White – it is now also waterproof which is awesome at the beach or by the pool
Best Luggage and Accessories
20. Carryon Luggage
Known as the “Rolls Royce of Luggage”, Sterling Pacific is the top choice for luxury travelers, frequent fliers, and pilots. The 35 L carry-on weighs only 11.5 pounds and its streamlined design is made to fit in the overhead compartments while being roomy enough to hold clothes for a long weekend trip. Its elegant aluminum design is a head turner with full-grain Italian leather handles, a retractable full-aluminum trolley, and Aluminum Wheel Housings making it elegant yet durable. If you are looking to buy a gift for a traveler in your life, or want to treat yourself to a luxury item, you will love this piece of luggage that stands out from the competition.
Another favorite of our carry-on luggage is the Pro Carry-On with Laptop Pocket by Level8. It is a prime example of specialized, lightweight luggage. The bag is made with aerospace-grade material to maximize protection yet minimize unnecessary weight. It glides easily, has a pocket for my wallet and laptop and easily fits in most overhead compartments.
21. Roller Luggage / Suitcase
We have graduated from backpacks to TravelPro lolling luggage for our travels. When traveling to cities, islands, or resorts, we really love using proper luggage with wheels. The TravelPro is a high-quality travel bag that has lasted us for years. It is lightweight, durable, and fashionable. Our checked luggage is TravelPro Maxite 5 Spinner – If you are traveling to a place that has paved roads and sidewalks, this is the best travel gear for you. Four wheels make it easier to roll and they tend to be more durable.
22. Rolling Duffel
If you aren’t ready to make the switch to a suitcase Eagle Creek’s 28 Road Warrior rolling duffel is fantastic. It’s not too big so you won’t overpack. it stands up on its own with ease and it is made for stacking packing cubes and wardrobe envelopes.
23. Backpack
Okay, I know I said we don’t use backpacks anymore for our luggage, but that is not entirely true. When traveling to Africa on Safari, to the polar regions on an expedition, or if we are going overland in Southeast Asia, a backpack is still the best option. They are easy to throw onto buses, carry over beaches, and lug through subway stations. We recommend the Osprey Fairpoint for men and the Osprey Fairview for women.

Carryon vs Non-Carry On
Dave and I don’t do carry-on only. We have been traveling around the world for nearly two decades and we rarely travel carry-on only. What’s the reason? We carry a lot of camera gear when we travel and that pretty much fills up our travel bags. Between our drones, DSLR cameras, laptops, and hard drives, we wouldn’t have a lot of room for our clothing and toiletries.
Besides, we don’t just do beach vacations. We often backpack through mountains, and different climates so we travel with an array of gear including everything from winter layers to hiking boots and water shoes. Just make sure you have a care packing in your carry-on. If you do have a delay and have to wait for your travel bags you will want the essentials.

Best Travel Photography Bags
24. Adventure Camera Backpack
Shimoda Explore 40 adventure camera backpack is well organized and can hold all of my photography gear. In addition to that, it is durable, comes with a rain cover, has a waterproof zipper, utilizes a rear entry (so I don’t have to worry about thieves), it uses a modular insert system that allows me to customize the inside of the bag and take things in and out with ease and it is carry-on friendly. I use it for hiking and walking around the city. It is by far my favorite photography backpack to date.
25. Small Camera Bag
Deb uses the Peak Design Messanger Bag for her videography gear. It is a fantastic piece of gear that she wears over the shoulder. It carries my DSLR video camera, Go Pro Hero 8s, phone, and computer. Plus there are pockets for wallets and phones. Peak Design Everyday Messenger V2
Photography Gear
We have an entire article sharing our complete photography gear list .
You can take a lot of great photos these days with your smartphone, so if you aren’t looking for completely professional photos, our iPhone combined with the GoPro Hero 9 does the trick. But we also have a drone, 3 DSLRs (two for photography, and one for video) plus a small vlogging Sony camera. See our complete photography gear list here.
Health and Safety Gadgets
26. Collapsible Refillable Water Bottle
Get this collapsible water bottle to take through airport security and to reuse cutting down on waste. Staying hydrated helps your immune system so having water on hand is a must. Being Collapsible, it goes through security with ease and save space in your carry-on bag. Buy it here.
27. SteriPen
The SteriPen purifies water in a snap, it is a great compliment to your water bottle and it an essential part of our travel accessories. You can fill your reusable water bottle with tap water and even water from lakes and rivers and purify the water using the Steripens UV lighting. Another alternative that we have used is a LifeStraw. It is a great two-in-one water bottle and water purifier. But I prefer the water bottle with Streripen as I can purify a lot of water at once and I don’t have to drink out of a filter, I have an open lid. But check it out here and decide what works for you.
28. UV Phone Sanitizer
Let’s face it, our phones are a cesspool of germs. We carry them everywhere, they are a part of us, but we never clean them properly. This UV Phone Sanitizer and Charger kills 99% of bacteria and viruses that build up on your phone. It’s fast easy and will help to keep the germs away. Get it on Amazon for $27.95
29. More Travel Accessories for safety
It’s a good idea to pack a few travel essentials for hygiene and cleaning in your carry-on bags. Travel-size hand sanitizer spray, disinfectant wipes, and surgical gloves are great items to keep on hand. We always have surgical gloves in our first aid kit. Make sure they are lightweight, travel size to go through security (less than 50 ml)
- Travel Size Lysol Disinfectant Wipes
- Mrs. Myers Clean Day Antibacterial Spray Lavender Scent.
- MedPride Surgical Gloves

Travel Essentials
30. Travel Insurance
We never travel without travel insurance and in a post-COVID World, this has never been more important. We have used our travel insurance on four continents including being airlifted out of the Amazon when Dave broke his back. We have several articles highlighting the importance of travel insurance that you can read below. But the best advice we can give is to call your company before you fly to ask about restrictions, what it includes, how much your deductible is, and what activities you are allowed to do on your vacation.

31. Ear Plugs
These may seem obvious, but I cannot tell you how many times I’ve forgotten my earplugs. Or I have forgotten to keep them on me while riding on a bus or train. If you don’t want to sleep with music, make sure you pack earplugs. When backpacking around the world on a budget, you will be staying in some pretty loud hotels (say someone snoring next door?) and earplugs are a must for any world traveler. Get them on Amazon
We now also use a white noise app and listen to the sound of a fan or ocean waves to rock us to sleep. It drowns out thumping music and loud neighbors.
32. Headlamp
I know what you are thinking. But I have a flashlight on my phone! That is true, but a headlamp is a must for hiking, camping, or even doing astral photography. It is more powerful than your phone light and it is hands-free so you can wear it on your head and get all your tasks done. We like to invest in a high-quality headlamp for optimal lighting and this Black Diamond headlamp is also rechargeable by USB. Read our tips for camping: 25 Camping Tips and Hacks for Happy Campers

Not a gadget, but I take several feet of gaffer tape (think duct tape for the real world) with me when I travel. It can be rolled on itself for travel (or around a qtip, if you must). Can be used for “field expedient repair” of shoes, pants, and bags.
Travel insurance is most important in Covid 19 Pandemic. Thanks for the article!
Why oh why have I only just came across your site! You guys are amazing. This list is so handy, a couple things I never thought about. I am about to make the move out to Australia and do a working holiday visa for a couple years before maybe making the full move out. Your guides are really helpful! Stay safe!
Hey guys – just came across your list. Great stuff! I love the Belkin surge protector. I never take a trip without mine. I would add the Dream Essentials Escape Luxury Sleep Mask – I honestly can no longer sleep without it. It has little eye sockets – awesomeness. Also a pack-it folder is a must. At least if the trip involves wearing descent looking clothes. I love the Bluff Works pants though. I’ll have to check them out.
Thanks for the tip on the mask. We’ll check it out. We’re also going to look for the folder, we have never had to worry about clothes looking good in the past, but now that we are doing more business travel, it’s becoming an issue and we didn’t know how to pack nice clothes without wrinkling them.
Ha, I love the list. I especially love the pegless clothes line as I usually had to wash my clothes during my trip. One thing I would suggest is this foldaway travel bag http://shop.thespicejourney.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=64&product_id=58 I have another version – black – but these ones are so cute. I love putting my last minute souvenirs-hunting in this bag.
I am so so happy you wrote this article – it has on it almost everything we have been talking about. Ugh – all my business ideas out the window haha! As you can imagine, packing up a motorbike is really challenging as both weight and size are critical.. very similar to backpacking. Sadly, we have 3 panniers to share so items are very, very limited. We have been looking into solar chargers, which may be a good addition..?
Love my clothesline and have to try the goodwill. Hope Bluffworks makes women’s travel pants soon!
*Hoboroll not goodwill – darn incorrect!
Wow! I want every single one of theses gadgets! They seem so useful! It’s a shame I’m reading this now, just a day before a 3 weeks holiday. I’ll make sure to check them out for next time!:)
Thanks for the list!!
Hoborolls is an idea but I just use my side pockets for small items, one for my 4 pairs of socks, and the other for my 5 pairs of Pop&Go PopandGo Knickers.
The digital age has taken the world by storm, with the introduction of the camera phone, photo digital imagery tools are at the fingertips of consumers today because they are built-in to low end and high end styled cellular devices that are the rage with American all over the country.,
Our personal internet page <"' http://www.prettygoddess.com/
Love the Hoboroll from GobiGear and the Belkin. Those are always in my gear bag. I’ll have to check out that VPN. I have been using Hide My Ass for a while now which is great too.
Ha, what is Hide My Ass? I like the sounds of it:-)
In China, we used Astrill, which is another really popular VPN. I don’t know about the HMN (other than the great name), but Astrill allows you to switch locations. Personally, I find Portland and Seattle to be the best connections.
If you can beat the Chinese government, you can beat anyone! Hehe
Awesome suggestions – I love finding things that just work, that just make sense. Keep the gear reviews coming!
This is a very good post. I want a hobo roll now.
Will do, we’re already gathering more ideas for gear that we’ve tried and loved.
Thanks! I’ve enjoyed using the Belkin many times. It helps at airports when the electrical outlets are all taken. I can offer to share and help others and myself! The Lacie HD has also been a useful travel ally. I look forward to checking out your other recommends.
I also suggest packing SPF clothing from SunPrecaution. http://luxurytravelmavens.com/destinations/spfclothesfortropicshome/ You still need Sunblock for your face and hands, but it can easily take care of the rest of you and is versatile for jungle, sea or restaurant. Happy Travels! @TravelExplorer
I love my pegless clothesline! Such a simple idea, but so useful!
Love the suggestions, going to look more into mifi.
One thing we use that saves us a bit of money traveling through Central and South America is the Steripen. You just pop it in your glass of tap water for 50 seconds, and hey presto, you have purified water! It’s crazy how buying bottled water all the time can eat into your travel budget.
Excellent list! I was looking at the Lacie Rugged Hard Drive a few days ago. I think the items 4, 6, 7 & 8 are must haves for any traveler these days.
Great stuff, I like these Go Sim and Mifi gadgets, I will go and buy those strait away
Can you use the Belkin surge protector overseas in countries that have 220V power? I’ve tried with others and they fry.
No, thats the only problem i have with it…since it is a surge protector, it cant handle autoswitching/220-240v. Otherwise, I take it everywhere, even using it on planes.
These are some cool gadgets!
Wonderful article. For me it has to be my Grid-it to keep all my wires neatly arranged and flat and GoToobs for perfect liquid travel containers. Now Im really hoping there’s a female equivalent to those gorgeous Bluff Work Pants to help with stylish travelling!
I have the clothesline and must admit that it is super useful.I’ll have to check our the hoboroll and mifi. Thanks for sharing.
Best Travel Gear Picks from a Constant Traveler (2024)
Whether you’re new to traveling or just looking to update your travel gear, it can be overwhelming to decide what to purchase. It’s hard to know what’s worth spending extra money on and what isn’t, especially for those of us on a budget.
I’m an avid traveler who’s been traveling the United States and Europe pretty much non-stop for the last few years, and during that time I’ve refined my travel gear to a near-perfect system. I’ve purchased so many different versions of each travel accessory on this list, tested them out, and selected the best ones (considering overall efficacy and price), and I’m here to share the results with you.
So without further ado, here’s my personal list of the best travel gear and travel accessories in 2023. I’ll always be upfront with which ones I’ve tested personally versus just researched, in cases where I couldn’t find my exact travel item online.
This list skews slightly toward the best travel accessories for women (hello, comfortable women’s travel shoes!), but most of the travel gear on this list is totally gender-neutral.

Best Carry-On Luggage
When it comes to deciding what luggage to bring with me on a trip, I try to bring the smallest amount I can manage. That’s for a few reasons: I save money paying for checked bags, and I have less to haul from location to location as I travel. That’s especially wise when traveling in Europe, where most sidewalks and streets are cobblestoned and elevators are far from a guarantee.
Your luggage is definitely an item of travel gear I recommend investing money in. Samsonite is one of my go-to brands. I’ve also personally had good experiences with Kenneth Cole REACTION Luggage . For both brands, my luggage has withstood 8-12 trips a year over several years and is still holding up.
What to look for in carry-on luggage: I prefer hard-sided luggage (you may prefer cloth, that’s a personal preference), but what’s more important to me than ANYTHING is that it has 4, 360-spinner wheels. This makes an ENORMOUS difference when going through airports or walking distances while traveling and tends to set apart the best travel luggage from the cheapest.
Pro travel gear tip : Looking for the largest-size luggage is not always the best route. Different airlines have different carry-on size requirements, particularly budget airlines. Budget airlines tend to have smaller carry-on size guidelines, and they are also the most likely to actually measure and charge you for going over the allotted size.
Best Travel Backpacks
My favorite travel backpack, which I’ve used for years all over the United States and Europe, is a Bondka laptop backpack. It has held up so well for me over the years on trips to Greece , Hawaii’s Big Island , London , and beyond, and is one of my best items of travel gear. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find that exact backpack online.
I’ve included one I haven’t personally tested but is one I’ll be considering as a replacement for my current pack, based on a combination of the features I love about my current backpack along with customer satisfaction based on extensive reviews.
What to look for in a travel backpack : I look for a large main compartment with a zipper that goes about 3/4 of the way around, so it’s easy to access your clothes or other items you’d be packing here. I also look for a travel backpack with pockets that are close to the back/body (passport and other important items go in there, not in the outside zipper where they can be easily stolen). I also like my travel backpack to have a large water bottle pocket on the side, back padding, and a chest clip (this helps when you’re walking around with a fully loaded backpack). Some smaller outside zippers are also nice because I can put my Kindle and books in them and access them easily.
Best Travel Purses
While you’ll often hear concealed money belts recommended in travel books, I really don’t think that’s a practical or secure way to carry money while traveling, especially in Europe.
Think about it. If you need to purchase something, that requires removing your money belt in plain view of others, letting any potential thieves know exactly where you’re keeping your stuff. It also screams, “I’m a tourist! Rob me!” Tons of locals are walking all around you with their normal bags, and you can, too.
In my opinion, the best travel purse is a cross-body bag when traveling in Europe and elsewhere. The cross-body part is important because this keeps the bag more secure to your body as a deterrent to thieves. If you’re traveling when it’s cold, wear the cross-body purse inside of your jacket, and you can feel relatively secure in hanging onto it.
Here are some cross-body travel purses to consider for your next trip:
Fossil is one of my personal favorite purse brands. This small cross-body bag would make a great travel purse. It’s durable, neutral, and large enough to fit essentials without being too large and heavy to carry around on long travel days.
The North Face is a good quality brand, and this cross-body bag would make a great travel purse. They make a variety of cross-body bags in cute colors and prints. I love the floral print that’s available in this particular bag, but there are lots of more neutral varieties as well. This could also be worn around the waist, but I’d keep the bag in the front, not the back if you go that route, to prevent theft.
Adidas makes a cross-body bag is made from recycled materials (an environmental bonus!) and is a great way to keep your phone, wallet, and other small items safe and secure while traveling.
I have a Gaiam cross-body bag like the one pictured to the right. I use it when I need a little bit more space to carry things around than my smaller cross-body travel purse. Something I love about it is that the clip can be moved to the front of the bag (you definitely don’t want to leave an exposed clip on your back; it’s way too easy for thieves to unclip while you are unawares!).
Best Packing cubes
Packing cubes are one of my absolute favorite travel accessories (and they make a great gift for a traveler!). I don’t know how I ever traveled without them! Now, I keep a healthy stock of about 30 packing cubes in my house. They are the perfect way to organize your travel bag or suitcase so that your clothes stay organized throughout your trip. They are also great if you’re traveling as a family and sharing bag space, as you can keep clothes separate for different people.
If you love traveling and haven’t bought packing cubes , trust me when I say you need to remedy that immediately! Packing cubes are some of the best travel accessories you can invest in.
The sizes I find most useful are the medium and small sizes… medium is perfect for tops and/or bottoms, and the small ones are perfect for bras, underwear, and socks. I don’t often use the largest size packing cube, so take that for what it’s worth.
I suggest buying some packing cubes with mesh so that you can see what’s inside each without opening them. You can even get a set of packing cubes in all medium sizes , if you know that’s what you’ll use the most often.
I have bought multiple brands of packing cubes, and honestly, I haven’t noticed a significant quality difference in any of them. My recommendation is to buy the ones that are priced well and are the sizes you most need.
Cute and Comfortable travel shoes
Travel tends to include a lot of walking, even when you haven’t planned a walk into your day. You walk to and from your hotel, public transportation, across the airport, and so on. If you haven’t made a smart shoe choice, you’re going to be regretting it, and quickly.
There are so many different recommendations out there for the most comfortable travel shoes, but here are my personal picks.
BareTraps sandals are one of my favorite travel shoes and walking shoes in general. These are seriously so comfortable, even right out of the box with no breaking-in. They have a squishy sole that’s still supportive, and they look so much cuter than the shoes you find most tourists walking around in. They get one of my top pics for the best women’s travel shoes if you’re going someplace warm.
Any time you search for the most comfortable travel shoes, you’ll find a thousand people who swear by Birkenstocks . There’s a good reason for that. Once you break them in, the leather upper of Birkenstocks is soft and comfortable, and the soles are very supportive. That being said, if you go with Birkenstocks for your travel shoe choice, make sure you have plenty of time to break them in, as the leather can be a little stiff for the first couple of weeks.
All-white sneakers are a staple travel shoe option. If you want to go this route, I recommend getting genuine leather so they hold up against the weather and make sure you’ve broken them in before your trip. I have worn these all-white Puma sneakers all over Europe . They are great travel shoes for women because they are cute, comfortable, and incredibly versatile. I’ve worn them with shorts, pants, and dresses.
Back-up battery pack
One of the most rookie travel mistakes you can make is to overestimate the battery life of your phone. Even if your phone battery usually lasts all day at home, when you’re traveling you tend to use it much more frequently…. for photos, navigation, translation, pulling up reservations… You don’t want to be out and about and suddenly find yourself with a low battery.
The easy solution is to carry another of my picks for the best travel accessories, a portable battery . They can fit easily into your small cross-body purse. Just make sure you pack a charging cord, recharge it at night in your hotel room, and you’re good to go.
If you know you’re one who forgets to bring charging cords, buy a battery pack with built-in chargers. There are multiple companies that make battery packs with attached charging cables for USB-C and lightning ports. The only drawback is that if a cord stops working or gets damaged, it’s still attached to your battery pack indefinitely.
If space is an issue, you can try out an ultra-compact phone charger that plugs directly into your phone (I’ve never personally tried this style, so use it at your own risk, but reviews seem positive!)
Travel Cord organizer
Another of my travel accessory staples is a charging cord organizer . You might roll your eyes and call me a Type-A, and you wouldn’t exactly be wrong, but trust me, having a travel cord organizer makes travel life so much easier. You can keep all your chargers for multiple electronics in one location, neatly displayed, so you can always do a quick scan to make sure you have everything.
I have tried out multiple styles, but the one I use most is the one pictured above. I think it’s the perfect size to fit your essentials without taking up too much space. I’ve also tried the roll-up style of cord organizer, and this zipper style wins for me hands-down. The roll-up style fit way less but still took up significantly more bag space.
Because I travel several times a month, I just keep an extra cord of each type in my cord organizer. That way, when I’m going on a trip, I don’t have to go through the mental list of every cord I need. This really is one of my favorite travel accessories.
Don’t forget to add a universal travel adapter if you’re visiting another country.
Best Toiletry bag for travel
Travel toiletry bags come in all types, shapes, and sizes. If you’re looking for the best women’s travel toiletry bag, I think this model is it. I’ve tried out so many variations, and I think this toiletry bag has the best of everything: a built-in hook so you can hang it just about anywhere in a hotel room or bathroom, multiple compartments to fit all your stuff (with clear covers so you can see what’s in them), and it folds up into the most compact and packable shape I’ve found in a toiletry bag. I’ve thrown out my others and always use this one.
In this toiletry bag, I fit my hairbrush and accessories, skincare products, and makeup, and it never takes up too much room in my bag.
I also use a reusable see-through bag for liquids. I’ve found that European airports, in particular, are strict about removing all liquids for security, so having your carry-on liquids and gels already packed in a bag makes the security line go more smoothly.
Pill organizer
If you take daily medications or supplements or just like to have a supply of basic medicines on hand when you travel, this pill organizer is a great item to add to your travel gear.
I used to use the daily compartment pill organizer when I traveled, but I found it confusing, especially when my trips lasted more than one week. And I couldn’t always remember which pill was for morning versus night. I switched to these pill organizers for travel , combined with home-printed labels for each section. Each compartment is for one type of pill. It’s compact and a great system and travel accessory.
Travel tip: Make sure you bring a couple of days extra of your medications when you travel. I have had the experience of being on a trip and then needing to fly elsewhere for a family emergency, and that couple extra days’ worth of medication was absolutely necessary until my doctor could send a new prescription to my temporary location.
Travel Water filter
If you’re traveling to a country where the water quality is questionable, you should always purchase lots of bottled water or save the planet and the money and invest in a travel water filter.
I swear by the Sawyer Micro Squeeze, which is so compact, light, and easy to use, you can literally screw it right onto the cap of a disposable water bottle (for example, you can use a Smart water bottle and keep refilling it because the filter will take care of the water quality.
Bonus: It’s almost ridiculous how affordable this water filter is! (If you’re a coffee lover for whom coffee is as essential as water, you can also consider a portable coffee machine; check out this article on Coffeeness that compares the best ones).
Recommended Travel Luxuries
Up until now, I’ve covered what I would call relatively essential travel gear (obviously I know nothing is essential but food, clothing, shelter yes yes, but you know what I mean). But here are some of the best travel accessories that are less essential but can make travel life just a little bit more comfortable.
I love a good Hardcover or paperback book , but when you are short on luggage space, an e-reader can really come in handy as a travel accessory. I personally take my Kindle Paperwhite on pretty much every trip I take. It also gives me a variety of books to choose from, because I’m a hardcore mood reader.
Read my detailed review of the latest Kindle Paperwhite e-reader and decide whether it’s the e-reader for you.
Book sleeve
This blog is all about literary travel, so I’ve got to cover the must-have travel gear for book lovers ! I love bringing my Kindle with me on trips, but I also love having a paperback or hardcover (or 2 or 3 or 4). I just hate seeing them get damaged in my travel bag.
I’ve started keeping my books in a book sleeve when I travel. I typically use one I got in one of my Literary Book Club subscription boxes, pictured above. You can find similar book sleeves easily on Amazon.
Noise-cancelling headphones
Noise-cancelling headphones were one of my best splurge travel accessories. If you’ve ever been bothered by other people’s loud conversation, annoying chewing, or the crying of a grumpy baby on an airplane or elsewhere, do yourself a favor and invest in a good pair of noise-canceling headphones, like the Bose QuietComfort 45 that I use.
Lots of cheaper headphones profess to be noise-canceling, but this is one travel accessory where you definitely get what you pay for. My Bose noise-canceling headphones were definitely worth the investment for me. The noise cancellation is some of the best on the market. Plus, I can use them wirelessly via BlueTooth, or plug them into the in-flight entertainment with the cord that comes with it. The charge lasts a long time, too.
One of the ways technology has improved travel is AirTags . They’re not just for your lost keys and wallet; you can use AirTags when you travel! Take your travel game to the next level put an AirTag inside your luggage and track where it is. If the airline claims to have lost it, you might just be able to track it down before they do.
AirTags are so seamless to use if you are already an Apple product user. You can set it up in seconds and track it easily from the “Find My” app on your phone or iPad.
Waterproof fanny pack
If you’re going to a beach or pool destination and don’t want to worry about your keys or phone getting stolen, a waterproof fanny pack is a great solution. When you go out into the water, you can keep it secured to you instead of stealthily hidden under your towel where NO thief would EVER think to look.
I’ve tried the necklace lanyard style, but they constantly broke and weren’t reliable, Plus they only have space for a phone. These waterproof fanny packs are one of the best travel accessories for any destination where you’ll be back and forth to the water. There are essentially 3 separate ziplock-style seams at the top, then you roll over and velcro the top. It makes it very watertight. I’ve used these countless times when snorkeling and free diving in Hawaii .
GoPro Action Cam
With my GoPro, I was able to capture some really unique experiences underwater, like encountering sea turtles, monk seals, dolphins, sharks, and manta rays in the wild in Hawaii. Those experiences were unforgettable no matter what, but being able to record them allowed me to relive those memories in a special way.
GoPros are so easy to use and even better, it’s so easy to transfer your pictures and videos onto your phone (wirelessly!). It’s a travel accessory to really consider, especially if you’re going on a lot of water-based vacations.
Travel Resources At-A-Glance
All of the following are links to sites and services I actually use to book and plan my travel or to purchase books or travel gear.
For flights : Skyscanner is my number one go-to resource for booking flights. I love using the “explore” function to find the cheapest places I can fly during a given time or using the fare calendar to identify the cheapest days to fly.
For hotels and lodgings : For hotels, hotels.com , and for vacation rentals, VRBO.com . I’ve had much better experiences with private rentals through this website than through other popular private vacation rental websites.
For car rentals : Kayak allows comparisons across a wide range of booking agencies and lists reviews of companies as well. I’ve found this to be the most user-friendly and efficient way to compare car rental prices.
For tours & excursions : Viator and Get Your Guide are my top choices for booking excursions and tour experiences in a new destination.
For travel gear : Amazon.com and REI for more outdoorsy items. Check out my travel gear recs here.
For booking trains & buses : I find the Omio app and website to be the most easily navigable for comparing options for public transportation, especially in Europe,
Best travel credit card : My favorite travel rewards credit card for European travel has been the Chase Sapphire Rewards card . Visa is accepted just about everywhere in Europe, and there are no foreign transaction fees on the card. Some of the travel benefits I love on the Chase Sapphire include free TSA pre-check or Global Entry (worth it every time), an annual $200 travel credit, an annual $200 hotel benefit, built-in rental car, and trip insurance, and points are worth 50% more when used to book travel. I travel around Europe a LOT, and I end up with many free flights and hotel stays from using my points on my Chase Sapphire.
For books : Bookshop.org often has prices as good as Amazon or sometimes better, but profits go to indie bookstores all over the country. Whenever possible, consider buying your books from this online indie bookshop resource.
Hopefully, this list has given you some ideas for where to invest where to save and what the best travel gear is for someone without endless cash. All of these items are ones I’ve used personally or very similar to my own, and it’s stuff I actually recommend because I actually use it.
If this list has helped you pick out your travel gear, pin it, tweet it, and share it so others can find it, too!

Apple MagSafe Duo Vs. Mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger: A MagSafe iPhone Charger Showdown
Both are great — but it’s time to put them in the ring against one another.
By Tucker Bowe
Every product is carefully selected by our editors. If you buy from a link, we may earn a commission. Learn more
The ideal travel charger for an iPhone user has to do a few simple things. First, it has to fully support MagSafe , so that wirelessly charges your iPhone (assuming it’s an iPhone 12 or later) as fast as possible, at up to 15 watts. Second, it has to be able to wirelessly charge our other Apple devices, because we don’t travel just with our iPhones. And third, it has to fold up nice and compact, so that it’s easier to pack.
Products in the Guide
Best Travel Charger for Apple Enthusiasts
Best All-in-One Travel Charger for iPhone
And there are really only two travel chargers that check those three boxes: Apple’s MagSafe Duo ($129) and Mophie’s 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe ($150) .
Both of these travel chargers can wirelessly charge multiple devices, they fully support MagSafe, and they both fold up nicely. The kicker is: Apple sells both. So what’s the difference? And which one is best?
Mophie’s travel charger can charge more devices
The most obvious difference between Apple’s and Mophie’s travel chargers is the number of devices that they can charge. The MagSafe Duo can only charge two devices at a time, an iPhone and an Apple Watch or the new AirPods Pro; Mophie’s travel charger, meanwhile, can charge three. It has an extra Qi wireless charger specifically fitted for AirPods (so long as their case supports wireless charging).
Unfortunately, neither of these travel chargers has an extra ports for a wired charging connection (in case you wanted to charge a device the traditional non-wireless way). Also, neither can fast charge an Apple Watch (Series 7 or later) as they don’t have the updated charging puck. Which is a bit of a bummer.
Mophie’s travel charger comes with a wall adapter; Apple’s doesn’t
Another big difference between the two travel chargers is that Apple doesn’t include the necessarily wall adapter for it to work right out of the box. This isn’t an uncommon trait for the brand, as it’s part of a lot of big tech’s environmental initiative; Apple thinks people already have enough wall adapters at home, so a lot of today’s smartphones, headphones and other gadgets don’t come with one. Apple recommends pairing it with a 20-watt USB-C adapter — the same one used with an iPad Pro or iPad Air — which is going to cost you an extra $19.
Mophie includes a 30-watt USB-C adapter in the box with its travel charger, which is nice. It also evens the price between the two travel chargers; if you have to buy the wall adapter for the MagSafe Duo, then the two travel chargers are almost the exact same price.
Mophie’s travel charger comes with a carrying case
That’s right. As well as including the wall adapter, Mophie also includes a neat little travel case with little compartments to hold the charger, the cable (USB-C to USB-C) and the wall adapter. It’s made out of this felt material that looks and feels really nice (even if it is a little bit of a magnet for lint and pet hair).
All in all, it’s just a really simple yet thoughtful solution for keeping all your travel charger’s necessary components together. The MagSafe Duo, meanwhile, doesn’t come with any kind of travel case.
Apple’s travel charger feels a bit more premium
Both Apple’s and Mophie’s travel chargers feel well-made. They’re made out of soft-touch materials, and magnetically fold together in a way that feels really tight and neat. However, Apple just does it ever-so-better with the MagSafe Duo.
It has a stronger magnetic connection when it folds in on itself (not holding the iPhone via MagSafe, where the strength is about the same for both), and the silicone-like material feels a bit nicer. Also, when you open Mophie’s travel charger up, the inside is made plastic and is flimsy; it just feels a little less premium.
So, which MagSafe travel charger for iPhone is best?
Admittedly, there is no clear winner here — as it ultimately comes down to your personal taste and what you need. Mophie’s travel charger is probably the better value, even if it’s a little more expensive; the fact that it comes with the necessary power adapter more than makes up for that price difference, plus it can charge one extra device comes the carrying case is an unnecessary but more-than-welcome addition.
If you’re an Apple enthusiast, however, the MagSafe Duo is probably still going to be your go-to travel charger. It snaps together wonderfully, and feels nicer to the touch. Plus, the fact that the newest AirPods Pro can charge on the Apple Watch puck or the MagSafe charger — so you can use whichever spot is open — means that you likely won’t care as much not having the extra wireless charger.
Apple MagSafe Duo Charger
- $98.50 at Amazon $129.00 (24% off)
- Feels and looks nice
- Folds up really tidy and small
- Doesn't come with necessary wall adapter
Mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe
- $149.95 at Apple
- Can wirelessly charge three devices at the same time
- Comes with the necessary wall adapter
- Carrying case is a nice addition
- Design feels more flimsy than the MagSafe Duo

In this article
- Best overall

- Best smart display

- Best analog
As convenient as it might be to use your phone as an alarm clock, standalone alarm clocks come with all kinds of features that can make waking up — or even going to sleep — a little less painful. Some have lights that simulate a gentle sunrise, while others can play bedtime stories or relaxing nature sounds to help you drift off. There are models that charge your phone overnight without taking up an extra spot on your power strip and still others with accompanying apps that let you choose from dozens of alarm sounds (just like your phone!) or sync to smart lights. A few even double as Bluetooth speakers .
The best-known newer brands in the space are Hatch and Loftie, with their feature-packed models, but you’ll still find a wide range of options from legacy electronics-makers Sharp and Braun. To find the best alarm clocks, I tested eight models by setting each atop my nightstand and dresser for at least a couple nights, trying each feature and taking notes on how effective each was at waking me up. I also spoke with Strategist writers about their favorites.
What we’re looking for
Alarm clocks can be either digital or analog, meaning they’ll either display the digits of the actual time or they’ll have a clock face with hands indicating the time. Digital clocks may be easier for some people to read at a glance (especially first thing in the morning), but analog clocks may be less distracting for someone trying to fall asleep.
Adjustable brightness
Displays with adjustable brightness allow you to see the time during the day but prevent the light from keeping you up at night when it’s time for bed.
Multiple alarms
Whether you prefer to set several alarms as an insurance measure, or want to share a clock with someone who wakes up at a different time than you, a clock with the ability to set multiple alarms will make things significantly easier.
Extra features
Some clocks have adjustable lights that simulate sunrise to help you wake up, or speakers that can play soothing sounds or guided meditations to help you get ready for bed. Others, like Amazon’s Echo Dot and Google’s Nest Hub, plug into other services to expand their capabilities and let you control other devices and services with your voice.
Sound options
Some people prefer to be roused with gentle tones, while others need a piercing siren to get them out of bed. I made sure to include both types on this list, as well as models with multiple sound options.
Best alarm clock overall
Clock type: Digital | Adjustable brightness: Yes | Multiple alarms: Yes | Extra features: None | Sound options: None
For a basic alarm clock, Sharp’s AccuSet Jumbo impressed me with its thoughtful design, big display, and low price. You can adjust the brightness to three levels, and even the lowest setting can be seen in a well-lit room, but is still faint enough to not be disruptive at night. You can only set two alarms on this one, but it’s easy to do so, and changing them doesn’t take more than a minute or two.
You won’t be able to change the mildly sharp beeping of the alarm, but the sound works well without sounding too unpleasant first thing in the morning. On the back of this alarm, there’s a USB-A port you can use for charging your phone overnight. In 30 minutes, I was able to charge my iPhone 15 Pro Max from 54 percent up to 72 percent, which isn’t quite as much as you would get with fast charging, but that rate for overnight charging is fine.
You won’t get any of the features (like ambient noise, sunrise light, etc.) that come with smart clocks like the Loftie and Hatch Restore 2, but its simple setup and easy-to-see display make it an affordable and convenient option that had no trouble waking me up during my testing.
Best (less-expensive) alarm clock
Clock type: Digital | Adjustable brightness: Yes | Multiple alarms: No | Smart features: None | Sound options: One
DreamSky’s barebones model is quick to set up and shows the time in an easy-to-read, large display; it also shows the time of your next scheduled alarm.
Strategist editor Hilary Reid says she bought hers to reduce her overall screen time and that it’s been helpful in that pursuit. She likes that the clock’s numbers are big and easy to read — they’re significantly larger than the numbers on the Sharp AccuSet — but aren’t so vivid that they’ll keep you awake. “The numbers are orange, which I find to be less shockingly bright than red or blue numbers, and they are fully dimmable so I can keep them very low when I sleep and then turn them up to their brightest setting in the morning,” she says.
Unlike the other alarm clocks we recommend, this one uses two AAA batteries to store the time and settings on the clock in case of an outage, though you can’t power the clock on batteries alone. Like the Sharp, there’s a built-in USB-A port you can use to charge your phone overnight. It only comes with one beeping alarm, while the other clocks we recommend have multiple, so you’ll have to be okay with the beeps it emits. Reid says it’s not horrible, but not particularly pleasant, either.
Best smart alarm clock
Clock type: Digital | Adjustable brightness: Yes | Multiple alarms: Yes | Smart features: App-controlled, ambient noise, sunrise light, guided meditations | Sound options: 14
I ended up using the Loftie far longer than the allotted testing time, thanks to how successful it was at waking me up. It combines a classic, understated LCD alarm clock lozenge-shaped design with a subtle light that can simulate a sunrise to ease you into the day. The light glows just enough to grab your attention as you wake up; it’s gentle, and adds a warm touch to the room, both in sunrise mode and when turned on manually from the buttons on the top. Using the app, you can have it light up and play a nice tune to let you know it’s time to wind down and get ready for bed, and another when it’s time to actually get in bed.
The Loftie’s display shows both the current time and, in much smaller, dimmer numerals, the time of the next alarm. It’ll also tell you when Bluetooth (which you can use to stream stuff from your phone or tablet) is enabled. The display is smaller than on other alarm clocks like the Sharp and Hatch, but I still didn’t have any trouble seeing it from across the room while in bed. The top of the Loftie has four buttons: snooze, two arrow buttons for navigating the menu, and the main button for selection or play/pause.
There are 14 alarm sounds to choose from, including jungle animals chirping alongside a flute and gentle, repetitive strikes of a gong. If you have a Loftie+ membership ($5/month, with a trial month for free), you can also play relaxing music to fall asleep to, listen to guided meditations, and get horoscope readings. They’re all nice add-ons, and I did find they helped my anxious mind wind down before dozing off, but the Loftie has plenty to offer without the subscription. You also don’t need to pay the subscription to use the Loftie like a Bluetooth speaker to stream podcasts or playlists from your phone. Unfortunately, the Bluetooth setting disables itself after a period of inactivity, so you’ll have to turn it back on from the device whenever you want to use it.
The accompanying app is surprisingly feature-packed for an alarm-clock app. You can add multiple alarms, each with different sounds from Loftie’s library, and adjust the brightness of the clock’s bottom light via an adjustable slider. You can also choose from 14 alarm sounds, all of which have pleasant tones, though if you need a sharper, more attention-grabbing sound to get you out of bed, these options probably won’t work. The app also supports multiple clocks, so you can control several devices from one phone.
The company also sells a Wi-Fi connected lamp , which is my new favorite lamp after a week of testing. It pairs with the clock to coordinate wakeup routines, like dimming your light before bed or using a soft light to help wake you up. Every time it lit up along with my alarm, I felt like I was waking up in a room pulled straight out of the brightly colored yet softly lit future of Spike Jonze’s Her . At $250, it’s rather expensive, and you can only control it from within Loftie’s app, but the light does look great. Rather than using a bulb, the entire base of the lamp lights up, and you can set it to one of over 30 color options, including solid colors and gradients. All of the color options are relaxing, never too intense, and can work for anything from providing some light for reading or just helping you wake up in the morning.
Best sunrise alarm clock
While I like the Loftie’s design, the Hatch Restore 2 is the one I wanted to keep on my nightstand after I tested it. I prefer its more subtle look and I like its sunrise light more — though the Loftie Lamp gives that model an edge if you’re willing to splurge on it. The Restore 2’s light has a softer glow thanks to the fabric surrounding it and compared to the effect created by Loftie’s transparent casing. Unlike the Loftie’s single-color light, the Hatch has 18 possible colors, and they can all be changed from within the app. My room doesn’t get much light in the mornings, and the Hatch’s vibrant but not overbearing light serves as a gentle nudge to help wake me up.
Like the Loftie, the Restore 2 has 14 built-in alarm sounds to choose from; I prefer the soothing chords of “Joyful Morning.” You can even play white noise to fall asleep to. Unlike with the Loftie, some of these ambient tracks are available for free, though others are available only with a subscription ($5/month). That subscription also unlocks guided meditations and fun things like the series “i’ll scroll 4 u,” where a host narrates what they’re doing on their phone in every episode; it’s sort of like a podcast version of someone’s hushed internal monologue. In one episode they comment on the question prompts their Hinge suggestions have on their profiles, and in another the narrator talks us through their hunt for a new couch on Facebook Marketplace. On its own, the Restore 2 offers more than enough to help make sleep a little easier, but I’ll admit, I’ve enjoyed trying out some of Hatch’s subscription content, so it’s worth checking out at least for the free trial.
Atop the Restore 2 are two buttons: one for activating your morning routine, and one for your evening routine. The morning button is convex, while the evening button is concave, making it easy to distinguish them by feel alone. The buttons are easier to differentiate this way than on the Sharp, but the Loftie’s different-size buttons are even easier to tell apart. The front of the clock also has four touch controls, though there are no icons to show where they are: Tapping on the top or bottom of the display toggles the light’s brightness, while tapping the left or right side adjusts the volume of the speaker.
Strategist writer Arielle Avila has been using the Restore 2 for about four months, and says it’s totally replaced her phone as an alarm. “It’s the only thing that can get me fully up when it’s still dark out because of the sunrise option,” she says. “I set mine to gradually brighten 30 minutes prior to my actual alarm, which is a morning bird sound — it’s calming but really effective.”
Avila also notes that only one person can control the Restore 2, so setting multiple alarms for multiple people isn’t convenient. You can also mute the alarm using a switch on the side, but it’s not easy to flip when you’re half-awake, which may disturb your bedmate if they wake up later than you.
Best smart display alarm clock
Clock type: Digital | Adjustable brightness: Yes | Multiple alarms: Yes | Smart features: App-controlled, ambient noise, third-party app integration, smart home controls | Sound options: 20
I used to watch TV before bed, but since removing mine from my room last year, I’ve started relying on a tablet version of Google’s Nest Hub as a mini-TV , and it works well as an alarm I can control completely hands free. The Nest Hub, which I’ve had in my home for over a year, has a large display — basically a tablet —that can show everything from the weather to whatever playlist you have on its built-in speaker. At night, the display will automatically dim when you’re going to bed. The Hub can run multiple timers, and even show two onscreen at the same time. It also makes a pretty great digital picture frame .
Google Assistant is built right into the Nest Hub, which means that in addition to controlling all your on-device timers, alarms, and Google queries, you can also sync it to third-party smart home gear and services like Spotify or Netflix (I have mine set up to control my home alarm system and robot vacuum ). All that’s done from Google’s Assistant app, but once you’ve done it for one Hub, it’ll be good to go with future devices as well.
Like nearly everything else you can do on the Nest Hub, you can set alarms with your voice, though you’ll have to use the touch screen to change the alarm wakeup sounds. There are 20 sounds to choose from, and they’re broken down into four categories (natural, light, medium, heavy), based on their tone and theme. They’re all nice to hear in the morning — I like the music-based ones — and I like that the options are broken down into their tones, rather than elements like the forest or ocean.
Since it’s meant to play music and videos too, the Nest Hub has a better speaker than the Loftie: It’s louder and clearer. You can sync it with your Spotify, Apple Music, or YouTube Music account to stream your favorite playlists or albums directly from the display, or even have it play a YouTube or Netflix video before bed. It doesn’t work as a Bluetooth speaker like the Loftie, but since the streaming functionality is all built in and doesn’t shut down on its own, it’s far more convenient.
Best smart speaker alarm clock
Clock type: Digital | Adjustable brightness: No | Multiple alarms: Yes | Smart features: App-controlled, ambient noise, guided meditations, third-party app integration, smart home controls | Sound options: 24
Of Amazon’s Alexa-integrated speakers, Amazon’s Echo Dot is my favorite. It’s small enough to fit on a nightstand without taking up a ton of space, and its smart-speaker capabilities are just as good as those on the Google Nest Hub. It also has an LED ring at the bottom that lights up when an alarm is going off, but the light itself is not as pleasant as the Hatch or Loftie. To turn the alarm off, you can say, “Alexa, stop” or tap the top, which is far easier than having to reach for a specific button, as you would with the Hatch and Loftie.
Like the Nest Hub, there’s a smart assistant built into the Echo Dot, though of course it’s Alexa instead of Google’s Assistant. You can connect it to just as many smart home devices and third-party services. Its display will only show the time (no indicators to tell you whether an alarm is active or not), but the numbers are easy to read. The sound is quite good for the speaker’s size (it’s about the size of a softball), and works for playing music, podcasts, and audiobooks, all without having to use your phone. It doesn’t produce sound with the same clarity as the Nest Hub, but it’s also significantly smaller.
The Echo Dot’s most frustrating issue is found within its alarm settings: There are ads and cross-promotions involved. In addition to standard alarm tones with nature sounds or chimes, there are branded ones like “Sharknado: Tara Reid” and “Blake Shelton: Day’s Work.” If that’s your jam, fine, but I’d imagine a lot of people wouldn’t enjoy waking up to Tara Reid shouting, “Get up now! There’s a Sharknado coming! Stay away from the windows and stick with me if you want to live, this is not my first time.” That said, the alarms that aren’t associated with a brand or celebrity sound pretty good and were on par with the alarms found in my iPhone’s Sleep section (and better than the standard alarms in the Clock app).
Best analog alarm clock
Clock type: Analog | Adjustable brightness: No | Multiple alarms: No | Smart features: None | Sound options: 1
For those who prefer an analog clock, Braun’s can’t be beat. The BC22 is modeled on the brand’s discontinued AB 2, which was designed in 1984 by Dieter Rams. Rams’ clock designs are considered classics for a reason and have many fans.
Unlike every other clock we recommend, this one’s battery powered, though you’ll probably only have to replace it once per year at most. It only has one alarm and one alarm tone, which increases in volume until you shut it off. The quartz movement should be quiet enough that the ticking won’t keep you from dozing off.
You set the alarm manually on the back of the clock. On the right side of the Braun is a switch to disable the alarm. The clock’s face has a soft orange backlight that allows you to see it at night but won’t keep you awake, and the hands of the clock have illuminated tips for better visibility in the dark. Below the clock, there’s a green light that indicates when an alarm is active, which allows you to confirm at a glance whether you’ve set one or not.

Travel + Leisure / Reese Herrington
We’re just a few days into April, and I’m happy to report that spring travel style is officially in full swing. As I get ready to embark on my upcoming trips, I've been doing a little spring cleaning to rid my closet and travel bags of old clothes and accessories so I can replace them with new must-haves for the season. And while the hunt for the top-of-the-line travel essentials can be an adventure in itself, fortunately, I can always rely on Amazon to continually deliver the biggest and brightest in terms of travel essentials.
In fact, the retailer just updated its massive catalog with hundreds of new arrivals that I’m feeling particularly excited about, complete with durable luggage sets and comfortable two-piece outfits . There’s plenty to shop, so I’ve curated a list of the 11 best travel products that just hit Amazon’s virtual shelves.
Darong Women’s Lounge Two-piece Set
There’s something so alluring about a matching set. Aside from the next-level comfort that it provides, it’s also a sure-fire way to ensure that you look put together on even the most hectic travel days. In fact, this newly dropped set is crafted with an ultra-soft fabric and easy-breezy design, making it the perfect ensemble for any journey (that can do double duty as an airplane outfit, workout fit, pajama set, swim cover-up, and more) — and not to mention that it’s available for just $40.
Teriveek Oversized Striped Crewneck Sweater
Despite the gradual increase in temperatures, there’s still a briskness in the air, which means that you shouldn’t completely devoid your wardrobe of long-sleeve tops and sweaters yet. Keeping that in mind, this oversized striped sweater is the perfect top to get you through this transitional season in style. Even better, it's on sale for a limited time for just $28.
Fochier Hardshell 3-piece Luggage Set
Every trip and destination may look different, but one thing that’s for sure is that every traveler needs a reliable suitcase. Fortunately, this freshly released Amazon set comes with three suitcases: a carry-on, medium-sized checked bag, and large checked bag for each and every trip that you have planned. In addition to getting three bags for the price of one, the suitcases in this set are sturdy, lightweight, feature TSA-approved locks, and multi-directional spinning wheels. What more could you want?
Real Essentials Men’s Mesh Running Shorts Set
These 100 percent polyester mesh shorts are the breathable, sweat-wicking bottoms that you need to get your wardrobe in shape for spring. Aside from their travel-friendly specs (lightweight fabric, adjustable drawstring waistband, and comfortable fit), at just $35 for a set of four, these are undoubtedly one of the best new arrivals and deals of the season. And they come in eight different color combinations for customizable wear.
E.l.f Squeeze Me Lip Balm
This lip balm came out last summer and has quickly become a fan-favorite in the beauty community. With its recent launch at Amazon, travelers and skincare enthusiasts alike can stock up on this top-rated lip balm just in time for spring. I’m among the many fans of this lip balm, and have even found that it outperforms plenty of the more expensive products in its category. Infused with hyaluronic acid, shea butter, goji berry, and other beneficial ingredients for the lips, this $4 beauty find is essential for keeping your pout nourished during extended travel periods.
Zimfem Portable Camping Chair
Even though this portable camping chair is new to Amazon's outdoor gear scene, it's already accrued hundreds of perfect ratings from shoppers, including one who loved that “it folds and compacts neatly, and is light… I can see myself using this chair all the time for camping, beach outings, hiking, and other adventures.” It's not a bad idea to grab this convenient, under-5-pound camping chair — especially while it's $10 off for a limited time.
OutdoorMaster Beach Tent
You can apply and reapply as much sunscreen as you’d like, but for more robust sun protection, you should really consider adding this UPF 50 beach tent to your gear repertoire. This waterproof tent not only shields you from the sun, but also offers a reprieve from the heat with its shading and ventilation features. Amazon is already a top retailer for innovative warm-weather products, and this genius beach shade is a testament to just that.
Glmnes Inflatable Sleeping Pad
It can be quite the task to get a restful night of sleep when you're away from home, especially on a camping trip. Thankfully, that’s a problem of the past with this new inflatable sleeping pad that shoppers rave gives them “ ultimate comfort anywhere .” Crafted with a heavy duty and waterproof nylon material, this sleeping pad is not only intended to give you a good night of sleep wherever you are, but to withstand adverse weather conditions and rough terrain.
Yuclet Portable Water Filtration Straw Set
As a traveler who always packs with preparedness in mind, I make sure to keep a water filtration straw in my bag in case I run out of water. As you can imagine, I was thrilled to see this on-sale set of four available at Amazon for just $30. These straws boast a four-stage filtration system that effectively eliminates microplastics, waterborne bacteria, and various other contaminants.
Oura Ring Gen3 Horizon
The Oura Ring made its debut back in 2015 and changed the way that we take charge of our personal health and fitness goals. It's now officially launched at Amazon, and if you’ve been hesitant about giving this gadget a try for yourself, allow T+L 's senior commerce writer Merrell Readman to explain what makes the buzzy product so great: “I've always been really particular about my sleep and I love having in-depth data that shows me how my daily habits impact my rest. I'm also someone that struggles to take rest days, but since I got my Oura ring, I've been more intentional about prioritizing down time because I have the data to see what a life of constant motion does to my stress levels.” Compatible with iOS and Android devices, this smart ring tracks your stress levels, heart rate, and can even tell you when you’re about to get sick thanks to its intelligent biometric tracking system.
Astylish Women’s Oversized Waffle Knit Shirt
Amazon is well-known for refreshing its shelves with fashionable pieces every season, and this waffle knit shirt is no exception. I’ve been a waffle knit fiend lately, so the moment that I spotted this top in the new arrivals section, I promptly added it to my cart. It’ll keep you warm on drafty flights and brisk mornings, but thanks to its breathable material, it won't have you overheating. Even though it quite literally just launched, I already know that it is going to become a fashion-favorite among shoppers (including myself) this spring.

MagSafe Monday
Magsafe monday: lisen 3 in 1 charging station is the most compact magsafe dock you’ll find.
Every desk setup is different. Some people have a Magazine-worthy office with a large desk looking over the Appalachian mountains. Other people have a TV tray with a kitchen chair tucked into the corner. Most people think everyone else is in the former, while in reality, most people have makeshift home offices or some cubes at work. What’s the best MagSafe desk dock for these situations? I’ve found it with the LISEN 3 in 1 Charging Station .
MagSafe Monday: Every Monday, Bradley Chambers looks at the latest and greatest in the MagSafe and wireless charging industry to help you get the most out of your Apple devices that support wireless charging.
For the person carrying an iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods Pro, having an easy way to charge them is a must-have. If you frequently work from coffee shops, airports, or hotels, you know the pain of remembering your chargers. It’s gotten somewhat easier thanks to the USB-C iPhone 15, but that assumes you’ve upgraded your AirPods as well. With the LISEN 3 in 1 Charging Station, you can simply make it your portable charging setup to keep everything charged.
Unboxing and breaking down
When you first unbox it, you’ll almost think something is missing (the Apple Watch piece), but it’s actually on the underside of the device. I love this design choice because if you simply need to charge your iPhone or AirPods, you don’t have the added bulk of the Apple Watch charger sitting out. When it’s completely broken down, it’s only a couple of inches thick, and it could easily slide into any pocket of your bag (or even your back pants pocket).
You can charge your iPhone while it is lying flat or at an angle. If it’s laying flat, you want to charge your AirPods simultaneously, but it’s flexible enough to work in various use cases. If you want to pull it out on a train or plane, sit it on your stay, and watch a movie, it’ll hold it at a perfect angle
It comes with a USB-C to USB-A cable for charging. It doesn’t include a charging brick, though. It cannot be charged by a laptop charger, though. You’ll want to use a dedicated wall charger that’s above 18 watts . I personally wish they’d include a USB-C to USB-C cable with a wall charger, though.
The LISEN 3 in 1 Charging Station is one of the better MagSafe docks I’ve used, and I love the portability of it. It’s nice enough that it could sit on your desk permanently, but it’s also portable enough to take you on the go to power all your devices. Even just as an AirPods and iPhone portable charger, it’s a great value, but when you add in the Apple Watch charger, it’s an even better device. Your AirPods can charge on the top charger or on the backside one as well. It’s simply one of the most compact 3 in 1 chargers on the market. The only negative I’ve found on the device is that the larger iPhones struggle to keep the device perfectly flat on the desk when putting it in vertical placement.
You can buy the LISEN 3 in 1 Charging Station from Amazon .
