Boris Announce New Album and 2022 North American Tour, Share “She Is Burning”: Stream
The post Boris Announce New Album and 2022 North American Tour, Share “She Is Burning”: Stream appeared first on Consequence .
Boris are returning with a new album, Heavy Rocks (2022) , a continuation of their ongoing Heavy Rocks LP series. The prolific Japanese band shared the lead single “She Is Burning” ahead of the August 12th release date and also announced a 2022 North American tour.
On their previous two Heavy Rocks albums (2002 and 2011), Boris embraced their love for 1970s hard rock and heavy psych. They’re bringing that same ethos to the 2022 iteration, as heard on “She Is Burning.”
The track is an unhinged ripper that chaotically barrels forward, threatening to collapse at any moment as the band exercises its penchant for experimentation and improvisation. The song actually sounds like it’s on fire, and Boris emphasize this with a performance clip that sees them surrounded by flames.
The band issued a statement on the new album in a press release:
“The world has changed over the last two years. Everyone’s thinking is simpler and pragmatic. Now, it is easier for everyone to grasp what is important to each of us. We leave it to the future and pass it on. The soul of rock music is constantly evolving. A soul that transcends words and meaning to reach you – instinct, intuition, and fangs. This is the heavy rock of Boris now. As we land on our 30th anniversary, Boris continues to evolve, accelerating the latest and universal. Boris does not lead anyone anywhere. We just keep showing this attitude.”
Boris will be supporting the new Heavy Rocks (2022) LP with a late summer / early fall North American tour featuring support from Nothing . Both bands will play Psycho Vegas (August 19th-21st) before embarking on the proper outing. Headlining dates kick off August 22nd in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and run through September 24th in Mexico City. Get tickets via Ticketmaster .

Boris Announce New Full-Length ‘Heavy Rocks (2022)’ + Fall U.S. Tour
May 17, 2022 | Dave Allison , Features , News & Notes
The legendary Boris celebrate a 30 year career as one of experimental music’s most forward-thinking, heavy, and innovative bands with the new album Heavy Rocks (2022) . Continuing their series of Heavy Rocks records, Boris once again channels the classic proto-metal sounds of the 70’s into something all new.
Boris comment on the new album:
“The world has changed over the last two years. Everyone’s thinking is simpler and pragmatic. Now, it is easier for everyone to grasp what is important to each of us.
We leave it to the future and pass it on. The soul of rock music is constantly evolving. A soul that transcends words and meaning to reach you – instinct, intuition, and fangs.
This is the heavy rock of Boris now.
As we land on our 30th anniversary, Boris continues to evolve, accelerating the latest and universal.
Boris does not lead anyone anywhere.
We just keep showing this attitude.”
Heavy Rocks (2022) , 10 pulse-pounding tracks, highlight the very trajectory of Boris and their storied career – from the driving, fuzzed out Rock N’ Roll opener “ She is Burning ,” to the punk, raucous “My Name is Blank,” Boris are heavier than ever before. “Question 1” is just kickass — D-beats give way to a doomed, spaced out and heavier-than-anything guitar wailing and feedback before diving back into their metal sound, sending the listener into a complete frenzy. This is unmistakably Boris , and this is the band at the height of their powers.
Elsewhere on the record, a more daring, “out there” side of Boris begins to shine on tracks such as the aptly titled “Blah Blah Blah,” the industrial “Ghostly Imagination” and the truly wild “Nosferatou.” Noisy passages (not unlike prior collaborations with legendary artists like Merzbow,) collide with visceral vocal howls while a relentless, almost Zornian-saxophone shreds harder than any guitar solo ever could.
In 2022, Boris cement what Heavy Rock means to them and release one of their most captivating records to date.
Additionally, Boris have announce Summer U.S. tour dates with Philadelphia’s Nothing. The tour kicks off after Boris and Nothings performances at Psycho Las Vegas and runs through late August and September. The tour also includes a festival performance at Post Festival in Indianapolis, tickets are on sale this Friday, May 20th and a full tour schedule can be found below.

Stream the new album by Boris, Heavy Rocks (2022)
Today is a new release Friday, and one of the big albums being released today is the latest from Boris , Heavy Rocks (their third album under that title), out via Relapse . And naturally, it lives up to its meat-and-potatoes title, presenting exactly what the title suggests, with plenty of big-riff rock ‘n’ roll and metal to go around, and a surprising amount of saxophone. We’ve got some thoughts on that, which we’ll share soon. (Though here’s a hint .) It’s classic Boris, in contrast to the more atmospheric sounds of their recently released album W , though then again the band changes course so often that after 25 years or so, pretty much any sound they tackle qualifies as “classic Boris.” Suffice it to say, this rocks.
Listen to the Boris Heavy Rocks stream below, and check out their upcoming tour dates.

BORIS & KIYOHARU (Japan)
In the ever-expanding universe of sonic exploration, two iconic forces are set to converge in a symphony of innovation and power. Japanese heavy rock pioneers Boris , celebrating an astounding three decades of groundbreaking sound, join forces with J-Rock legend Kiyoharu for the unmissable “Heavy Rock Breakfast” tour, a post-pandemic celebration that promises to redefine the rock experience.
Already announced for the Golden Plains Festival, Boris , known for their relentless pursuit of sonic excellence of heavy rock, returns to Australian shores in 2024. The 4-piece Boris lineup, featuring the dynamic duo Takeshi and Wata , along with the incomparable Atsuo now reclaiming his original front-man role and a support drummer Osamu , promises an electrifying showcase of their evolution and musical prowess. Adding to the anticipation, Boris will headline shows in Sydney and Melbourne, make a triumphant return to Brisbane’s ?hm festival, and mark their first appearances in Adelaide and Perth since 2015.
“Social distance was asked in a Pandemic. Passion of rock was blocked in a social life. Rock is the culture to be handed down to the world once again. The ‘Heavy Rock Breakfast’ show will be to deliver full of our passion for rock straight into the audience.” – Boris
Joining Boris at the breakfast table is none other than J-Rock luminary Kiyoharu , making his inaugural voyage to Australia with a 4-piece band. Kiyoharu , a legend in his own right, has left an indelible mark on Japan’s music landscape with his unique blend of hard-rock and traditional sounds. Having achieved monumental success with Kuroyume and Sads, Kiyoharu ** is set to captivate Australian audiences with his charismatic stage presence and unparalleled musical legacy.
“In the world’s eyes, Japan’s rock history remains largely uncharted territory. It’s understandable, amidst the continuous emergence of brilliant music worldwide, there might not be a compelling need to delve into the history of a small Asian nation. However, Japanese music is now starting to exert its influence on the world to some extent. The opportunity to uncover the truth and the deeper layers of Japan’s rock history, deserving of proper recognition, is coming your way. Boris resonates its sound on the foundation of global rock, and, of course, the inheritance of Japanese rock. In this tour, we aim to integrate the history of rock worldwide, alongside the charismatic figure of Japanese rock, Kiyoharu . This tour carries such significance. From this ground, let’s grind, repaint, and update. Stay tuned.” – Atsuo / Boris
Boris , often hailed as game-changers in experimental heavy rock, brings their innovative spirit to Australian shores. Their latest release, “Heavy Rocks” (August 2022, Relapse Records), showcases their ability to channel 70s proto-metal vibes into something entirely new and groundbreaking.
Don’t miss the chance to witness the collision of sonic titans Boris and Kiyoharu as they serve up a feast of heavy rock like never before.
