Every summer, a freshly auditioned company of Smirkus Troupers, ages 10 to 18, take to the road in traditional mud show fashion for a two-month performance tour of New England. Backed by professional coaches, cooks, musicians and crew, our Smirkos perform to sell-out crowds in Circus Smirkus’ very own 750-seat European-style one-ring big top tent.

Each year brings a new storyline and original full-length show combining the best in traditional and contemporary circus styles. We give our Troupers the full experience of touring in a classic traveling tent show. That means a complete immersion in circus life. Smirkos endure rigorous training, daily chores and the loading in and loading out of the Big Top. They revel in the joy of performance and the camaraderie of a common purpose — the passion of a shared dream and nearly 50 shows in just six weeks!

This great German circus experience is coming to you! For the first time in the United States, witness one of Europe’s oldest circus families and their traditional German circus show.

The dynamic duo of brothers Benajmin and David Spindler proudly carry forward the legacy of one of Germany’s most illustrious circus dynasties. As the 9th generation of their family, they remain an indomitable part of German circus history, bridging the past and the present.

On their father’s side, their great-grandparents Alois Spindler and Luzzie Heppenheimer Spindler founded Circus Aramant, which they operated with their eleven children. Their legacy endures with family members running numerous successful circuses, such as the Frankfurt Christmas Circus, produced by Circus Carl Busch; Circus Universal Renz; Circus Voyage; and Circus Berolina, among others.

Their maternal lineage is equally impressive, with great-grandparents Theodor Oll and Monika Brumbach Oll at the helm of Circus Belloni with their five children. This tradition us now upheld by their grandchildren, who travel across Europe with multiple circus units.

Benjamin and David’s parents, Max and Monika Spindler, married in 1965 and started a pony ride act. Two years later, they created the highly successful Circus Safari, touring Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg until the early 1970s when they relocated to Berlin.

Benjamin, with his wife Magdalena; and David, with his wife Kerstin; carried on the tradition, managing Circus Safari in Berlin until 1995. The family then decided to return to Bavaria, from where they expanded their tours to Austria, Slovenia and Croatia over the next 15-plus years.

Max and Monika’s other children are also still entertaining the masses with their own Circuses. Daughter Judith and husband Gerd Richter produce the beautiful Circus Mondeo and are well known for their contributions for children with disabilities. They were awarded the highest civilian award given by the German government,The Bundesverdienstkreuz.

The Spindler siblings, along with their spouses, continue to captivate audiences with their diverse talents, including expertise in liberty animal training, aerial artistry, hand-to-hand juggling, acrobatics and clowning. They have dedicated thier lives to learning, training and perfecting their craft.

In 2024, Benjamin and David debuted Germany’s Great Bavarian Circus in the U.S., which is the realization of a long-held dream of their father. After a visit to the U.S. with his sons, Max was inspired to introduce their family circus and its rich history to the audiences of America. With a legacy that spans more than 100 years of performing, the cast and crew of Germany’s Great Bavarian Circus includes 13 members of the Spindler family, who are an indomitable part of circus history, bridging the past and present.

Victor M. Mukhin was born in 1946 in the town of Orsk, Russia. In 1970 he graduated the Technological Institute in Leningrad. Victor M. Mukhin was directed to work to the scientific-industrial organization "Neorganika" (Elektrostal, Moscow region) where he is working during 47 years, at present as the head of the laboratory of carbon sorbents.     Victor M. Mukhin defended a Ph. D. thesis and a doctoral thesis at the Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia (in 1979 and 1997 accordingly). Professor of Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia. Scientific interests: production, investigation and application of active carbons, technological and ecological carbon-adsorptive processes, environmental protection, production of ecologically clean food.
