Sierreño Star Ivan Cornejo Announces U.S. Terapia Tour

After releasing one of the biggest regional Mexican music albums last year, Ivan Cornejo is going on tour in the U.S. Last night (June 19), the Mexican-American singer announced the dates for his Terapia Tour.

Since dropping his breakthrough single “Está Dañada” in 2021, Cornejo has become one of the most-streamed artists in the sierreño genre. Later that year, Jhayco jumped on a remix of the song. Following the blockbuster success of Cornejo’s Dañado album last year, Becky G is working with him on her upcoming regional Mexican music album.

Earlier this year, Cornejo went on his first tour of the U.S. On the Dañado Tour, he performed in smaller and more intimate venues on the west coast. With this new trek, Cornejo will be putting on concerts across the country.

“The last time I had the opportunity to perform for my fans my sound was more acoustic, and the venues were smaller and more intimate, now I’m exploring new and more sounds for my performances,” Cornejo said in a statement. “I’m taking my tour across all corners of the U.S. I’m especially excited for the festivals like Austin City Limits and Lollapalooza, this tour will be my new form of ‘therapy.’”

Cornejo’s Therapy Tour will kick off on Aug. 4 in Chicago, IL. Throughout the fall, he will be performing in major cities like New York, Orlando, Dallas, Las Vegas, Phoenix, and San Jose. Cornejo will be singing his biggest hits in even bigger venues this time around. The tour will wrap up on Nov. 12 at the Cal Coast Credit Union Amphitheater in San Diego, CA.

Fans can now sign up at Cornejo’s official website for early access to tickets. The artist presale tickets will be available starting tomorrow, June 21, at 10 a.m. local time. Tickets to the general public will be released on Friday, June 23. Last year, Cornejo teamed up with Yahritza y Su Esencia for their collaboration “ Inseparables .”

Ivan Cornejo is a singer and songwriter of Regional Mexican Music from Riverside, California. Alma Vacía, his 2021 debut album, was released by  in August, just two months after his 17th birthday; it peaked at number two on the Regional Mexican Albums chart, while the singles "Noche de Relajo," and "Corazón Frío" also registered inside the Top 20. A week before his 18th birthday, he issued the full-length Dañado; it topped genre charts during its first week of release.

An adept guitarist who taught himself to play at age seven, Cornejo began jamming with older friends at 14. They praised his playing and singing acumen and encouraged him to develop his skills further. He did. At 15 he began posting video requintos (guitar instrumentals) covering songs by his favorite artists on TikTok. They registered millions of views and drew the attention of the music industry from all over the world. 

"Noche de Relajo" appeared in late 2020, and registered on streaming charts. "Llamas Perdidas" followed in June 2021, just after his 17th birthday. In the meantime, his performance videos began to score major notice on YouTube, garnering millions of views. In late July, Cornejo issued the single and video for "Corazón Frío" and in October he released the eight-song album Alma Vacía; it rocketed to number two on the music industry's Regional Mexican charts. He followed it with the Top Ten single "El Greñas Mentado."

In February 2022, Cornejo released the single "Perro Abandonado," a corrido of insufferable heartbreak. Two weeks later, he released "Triste" , a duet with . In June, a week before his 18th birthday, Cornejo released the romantic, ballad-centric Dañado, another seven-track album. It rocketed to the Top of the Regional Mexican Albums chart as well as streaming, debuted at number four at Top Latin Albums, and cracked the Top 200, entering at number 149 (unusually high for a Regional Mexican album). 

In early 2023, Cornejo’s US “ DAÑADO TOUR ”' which was a very intimate and one of a kind opportunity to connect with his fans for the first time,   completely  sold out during the presale. He also released the  deluxe  version of  “Dañado”  which included three new songs  “La Última Vez” , “ Tatuajes ” and  “Ya Te Perdi”. 

Ivan’s budding career continues to expand, currently the second most consumed Regional Mexican artist in the US and top 10 overall Latin in the US. He has reached over 1.1 billion combined streams,notably one of the most nominated artists at his year’s Premio Lo Nuestro with 6 nominations and winning   “Debut Artist of The Year”  and  “Regional Mexican Album Of The Year ” at the 2022 Billboard Latin Music Awards, cementing his status as one of music’s most promising new generation of stars. He is gearing up to hit the road this Summer/ Fall on his TERAPIA TOUR which will include bigger venues and with stops in 31 cities.

The 31-city tour finds the 19-year-old Mexican American artist — wise beyond his years — connecting with his equally young fanbase who felt deeply his lyrics about heartbreak. Some were brought to tears. It’s the effect Cornejo’s evocative delivery has on his fanbase. Singing with such pathos, Cornejo tugs at your heartstrings with nostalgic and melancholic songs about love and loss, powered by prickly acoustic and electronic guitars. As a collective, Cornejo and his fans heal each other.

While often boxed into the regional Mexican genre, Cornejo goes beyond that style. More precisely described as alt-música mexicana, the California-born artist serenaded fans singing his sad sierreño anthems “Me Hiciste Un Loco,” “Está Dañada,” “Estás En Mi Pasado” and “Perro Abandonado,” which he said he wrote when he was going through a heartbreak.

“I was really hurt when I wrote this song. I felt really lost but more than anything, I felt like a perro abandonado (abandoned dog).”

“Arriba la terapia,” he declared at the end, loosely translating to “long live therapy.”

Cornejo closes his Terapia Tour on Nov. 22 in Ontario, Calif.  

In 2021, Cornejo topped  Billboard ‘s  Latin Songwriters  chart thanks to his hit “Está Dañada,” which then became only the second regional Mexican song to enter the  Hot 100  tally. He won new artist of the year the 2022 Billboard Latin Music Awards and, he’s now up for top Latin album at the 2023 Billboard Music Awards for Dañado.
