Queenstown:

Queenstown is a resort town on New Zealand’s South Island. The city is built around an inlet called Queenstown Bay on Lake Wakatipu and has spectacular views of nearby mountains and the Southern Alps. The town’s economy is focused on tourism, especially adventure and ski tourism, boasting over 200 adventure tourism activities to take part in.

It is the highest mountain in New Zealand at a staggering 12,218 feet in height. It lies in the Southern Alps, and is a part of Aoraki/Mt. Cook National Park. Mt. Cook is popular with mountain climbers who are looking for a challenge and is a popular destination for nature-lovers and casual hikers as well.

This city lies on the North Island of New Zealand and is the largest and most populous area in the country. Roughly one third of New Zealand’s population resides here, dating back to the year 1350 when the Maori people populated the land that is known for being rich and fertile. It is now filled with parks, nature, and volcanic fields as well as home to a rich culture and a good quality of living.

This coastal city is located in the Otago region and one of the Southern Hemisphere’s best-preserved Victorian and Edwardian cities. The urban area of Dunedin lies on the central-eastern coast of Otago, surrounded by the head of Otago harbor. Dunedin is known as the Edinburgh of the south because of its Scottish heritage.

Milford Sound:

Home to rugged landscapes and all-natural beauty, Milford Sound is described by some as the Eighth Wonder of the World. This breathtaking region is situated on the west coast of the South Island and features towering peaks, cascading waterfalls, and surreal views to all who visit. Among the surrounding peaks, travelers will witness “The Elephant,” resembling an elephant’s head, at 4,977 feet tall; and “The Lion,” resembling a crouching lion, at 4,272 feet tall.

TranzAlpine Train:

All aboard the TranzAlpine Train as it travels from Auckland to Greymouth on New Zealand’s west coast. It is said to be one of the most scenic train rides in the world. The journey runs once a day with an approximate travel time of 4 1/2 hours. This region is known as glacier country and features many natural treasures including glaciers, beaches, wetlands, lakes, mountains and forests of national parks.

Bay of Islands:

As a subtropical micro-region, known for both stunning scenery and deep rooted history, the Bay of Islands has a lot to offer travelers. In the past, these waters were once full of ship deserters, sailors, whalers, ex-convicts, and other rogues – but now the Bay of Islands is a tranquil vacation destination. Among the 144 islands that dot the warm South Pacific Bay is the famous “Hole in the Rock.” Etched over time by wind in waves, the “hole” is large enough to travel through by boat when the tide is just right.

Visit this town in the Southland region, located on the eastern shore of Lake Te Anau, the largest lake on the South Island. The town borders on the Fiordland National Park, and is home to many species of bird life. It is the perfect place for a hike or bird watching excursion.

You must try world-renowned New Zealand lamb. Tasty lamb dishes are found on nearly every menu, and what better accompaniment than a glass of the country’s celebrated wine – Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, or Pinot Noir.

Be sure to keep an eye out for products made from jade, the gorgeous "greenstone.” The stone is important to the Maori who call it 'pounamu.' Maori jade carvings each have their own meaning to the people and make beautiful pendants.

You’re a leisurely traveler. You typically take it easy and discover the energy of a new place by people-watching or soaking in the atmosphere at a local café. You can climb at least one flight of stairs, board a coach, and walk unassisted at a relaxed pace for up to 60 minutes without difficulty. You can easily handle altitudes up to 5,000 feet.

You like a balanced approach to travel. Walking two to three miles over the course of a day is no problem for you. You can partake in a two-hour leisurely walking tour, covering up to two miles (with included breaks). You can handle a variety of terrains, from cobblestone streets to moderate hills with relative ease and without assistance. You can climb two flights of stairs with ease. There may be 1 to 2 days on this tour when walking tours can cover 3 to 4 miles over uneven terrain. You can handle altitudes up to 6,000 feet.

You’re an on-the-go traveler. You don’t want to miss a thing, so walking and standing for longer periods of time (2-3 hours) isn’t a big deal. A moderately paced two-and-a-half-hour walking tour, covering several miles, hills, and uneven surfaces, is no problem for you. Walking four miles over the course of a day is very doable, as is climbing into and out of various modes of transportation (tuk-tuk, cable car, zodiac, etc.). You can climb three flights of stairs easily and handle altitudes between 6,000 and 9,000 feet. Expect some longer days balanced with free time to recharge or set out on your own adventure. This level is not a fit for travelers who require mobility assistance devices.

You’re ready to seize the day, whatever it may bring. You lead an active life at home (walking, biking, and half or full day hikes are things you may enjoy) and 10,000 steps a day is normal for you. You can handle longer walking tours (more than 3 hours covering 3+ miles at a steady clip) and activities that involve traversing uneven terrain, steep slopes, standing for periods of time, and varying altitudes and temperatures. You don’t mind being on the go with some early starts, late-nights, and full days. You can handle altitudes of 9,000 feet or higher with little to no issue. This level is not appropriate for travelers who use wheelchairs, walkers, and other mobility assistance devices.

Level 3 - Slightly longer distances and more frequent walks can be expected. Expect stairs and some uneven surfaces such as cobblestones or nature trails.

Level 4 - Expect to be on your feet longer, including periods of standing and more extensive walking periods. These tours may also feature nighttime activities, so you'll be active for a longer period of time.

Level 5 - Very active travel. Expect adventure experiences and activities, early mornings and late nights. You can also expect to experience the elements so be ready for rain, wind, dust, what have you.

Face coverings will be included with your pre-tour documents and will be required throughout many experiences on tour including the motor coach and air travel.

Motor Coach

All surfaces will be sanitized often, including regular cleaning of high-touch areas with disinfecting wipes. Hand sanitizer will be available at all times and drivers will wear protective gear when appropriate.

On-Tour Experiences

We work closely with our local partners to ensure adequate physical distancing during meals, experiences, and sightseeing. Guests may be rotated in smaller sub-groups when necessary.

On-Tour Insurance Coverages

When you purchase our Travel Protection Plan, you’ll have access to telehealth services should you need it, plus you’re covered on tour for emergency assistance, baggage loss, trip interruption, medical expenses, and more. Learn more here

Self-Screening

We will ask all travellers to monitor their health throughout their tour, with protocols in place in the event someone becomes ill.

Specific protocols will vary from destination to destination, hotel to hotel. Overall, rooms and areas like restaurants, fitness centres, etc. will be deep-cleaned regularly, with rooms disinfected thoroughly between guests. High-traffic areas like lobbies and elevators will be cleaned hourly.

My experience with third party operators is that generally one pays a premium for their services and should problems arise in country many have difficulty in resolving such issues as they arise.

Until this thread was started I had never heard of them

Many of our dinner, bed & breakfast guests came through http://www.ruraltourism.co.nz and were travelling with Collette Tours. Most guests were from the USA or Canada with a few British people. Our guests seemed happy with their travels. Somedays involved a lot of travel but that is not unusual with tour groups.
