A Guide The Croke Park Tour (GAA Museum, Skyline Tour + Bloody Sunday)

A Guide The Croke Park Tour (GAA Museum, Skyline Tour + Bloody Sunday)

If you’re looking for interesting places to visit in Dublin , Croke Park is a good place to start.

Although the Aviva Stadium might be the shiny new stadium du jour, the heart and soul of Irish sport lies among Dublin 3’s narrow roads and terraced houses at Croke Park.

Even when there isn’t a game on, the Croke Park tour provides a great platform to learn about Irish sporting history and a whole lot more.

In the guide below, you’ll find info on the story behind this historic stadium and the GAA museum to the Croke Park Skyline Tour.

Table of Contents

Some quick need-to-knows about the Croke Park tour

GAA museum

Although booking into the Croke Park tour is fairly straightforward, there are a few need-to-knows that’ll make your visit that bit more enjoyable.

1. Location

Croke Park (or ‘Croker’ as it’s known to locals) is walkable from the city centre, and you can make it there within half an hour. Otherwise, you can jump on a number of different buses. You can also take the DART to Drumcondra Station, which is just a 10-minute walk from the stadium.

2. Admission + opening hours

Admission (prices may change) to the GAA Museum is €9 for adults, while it’s €7.50 for students and seniors. It’s €6.50 for children aged 3-12 (under-3’s go free), while families of two adults and two children can enter for €21. The museum is open from Monday to Saturday, 9.30 am to 5 pm and on Sundays from 10 am to 5 pm.

3. The tours

Croke Park really pushes the boat out when it comes to the variety of tours on offer! Choose from a historical tour at the GAA Museum, an all-access Stadium Tour or get a unique view from above with the Crok Park Skyline Tour. They’re all cracking tours led by experts, so choose one (or all of them!) and see what Croke Park’s all about.

4. Home to a heap of history

Croke Park is home to the sort of history that few other stadiums can match, and not all of it is pleasant. But that doesn’t make it any less interesting! As well as opening way back in 1884, it was also the scene of the infamous Bloody Sunday massacre where 14 civilians were gunned down by British forces. But more on that in the next section.

A brief history of Croke Park

The history of Croke Park is a long and interesting one. And it’s forgotten by many who take a seat inside its walls.

Below, you’ll get an insight into some of the stories you’ll hear during the Croke Park tour. Pay particular attention to the section on Bloody Sunday.

1. A stadium for an Archbishop

The land around Croke Park had been used as the setting for sporting events since the 1880s and was known as the City and Suburban Racecourse, or Jones’ Road sports ground. Then in 1908, the ground was bought by a local journalist and GAA member with a view to making it a permanent Gaelic sporting ground.

Five years later, the GAA purchased the plot of land for £3,500, and the ground was then renamed Croke Park in honour of one of the GAA’s first patrons, Archbishop Thomas Croke.

2. Bloody Sunday

By 1920, it had a couple of stands and was on its way to eventually becoming a recognised stadium. Things came to an abrupt halt, however, on the 21st of November of that year.

During a match between Dublin and Tipperary, British forces fired on the crowd of 5,000, killing twelve spectators and a Tipperary player in response to an IRA attack earlier in the day.

The event has lived on in infamy and only increased support for the IRA at home and abroad. Built in 1924, the Hogan Stand at Croke was named after Michael Hogan, the Tipperary player killed on Bloody Sunday.

3. Big games and bigger gigs

Croke Park has since evolved into an elite sports stadium, and its capacity has swelled to 82,000, making it the fourth-largest stadium in Europe. It continues to be used predominantly by the GAA and hosts the annual All-Ireland finals in Gaelic football and hurling.

It also regularly hosts music gigs by some of the world’s biggest artists. Unsurprisingly, it’s been a favourite of U2 for many years, but Croke has also hosted gigs by the likes of Bon Jovi, Take That and Tina Turner.

What to do at Croke Park

One of the reasons that the Croke Park tour is seen as one of the best day trips from Dublin City is due to the number of things there is to see and do.

Below, you’ll find info on the Croke Park Skyline Tour and the GAA Museum to where to visit nearby.

1. The GAA Museum

When people refer to the ‘Croke Park tour’, they’re usually talking about the GAA Museum, which vividly brings to life how the GAA has contributed to Ireland’s cultural, social and sporting heritage.

The GAA Museum tells the story of Ireland’s unique national sports. Featuring a ton of artefacts, including jerseys, medals and photographs, there’s so much here to keep you entertained, even if you’ve no idea how Gaelic football or hurling work. You’ll soon know!

There are also exhibitions, and the Remembering Bloody Sunday Exhibition is the one to go to if you’d like to know more about that terrible day in 1920.

It shaped the landscape of Ireland in more ways than one and is as important an event as any other in Ireland’s struggle to be free of Britain’s grasp. This is regarded as one of the best museums in Dublin for good reason.

2. The Skyline Tour

Now here’s a tour you won’t find at any old stadium! Get an epic view of Dublin from 17 storeys high at Croke Park’s Skyline Tour. Dublin’s highest open-viewing platform , this amazing rooftop walkway will give you a birds-eye view over the stadium and pitch and you’ll be able to learn about each stand from a unique vantage point.

When you’ve finished checking the stadium out, you’ll then be able to turn and get a stunning panorama of Dublin City! The expert guides will point out all of the city’s significant landmarks and tell you about them in their own way. Don’t forget to take plenty of photos on this tour!

3. The Stadium Tour

Want to get an insight into what it’s like to be one of the privileged few to play at Croke Park? Minus the sweat, of course! The Croke Park Stadium tour gives you a backstage pass to see areas of the stadium fans would never normally get to see on match days.

Take a seat in the VIP area, enjoy a birds-eye view from the media centre, take a look inside the dressing rooms, and walk in the footsteps of Gaelic games legends as you go pitchside through the players’ tunnel! The expert tour guides will tell you all about the history of the stadium on the way and point out all of its interesting quirks and landmarks.

Fans are already stressed about getting their hands on tickets after the hullabaloo caused by other artists such as Coldplay , Taylor Swift, and Sabrina Carpenter.

People have been left outraged in recent months by having to pay upwards of a couple of hundred euro just to nab one ticket to see their favourite artists, and are now hoping that won't be the case for Oasis.

Liam and Noel will reportedly rake in an eye-watering €15million in ticket sales from their two Croke Park gigs alone, with MCD Productions confirming ticket prices will start from €86.50 plus booking fee.

Unlike other artists, Oasis isn't making its fans jump through hoops for tickets. There will be no Ticketmaster presale for the event, rather it'll be on a 'first come, first serve' basis when tickets go on sale at 8am on Saturday, August 31.

However, the Gallagher brothers had their fans sign up for a pre-sale ballot in the hopes of receiving a code to get early access to tickets on Friday, August 30.

On Tuesday, Liam and Noel said on social media: 'The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised.'

Oasis Live '25 will be taken to other continents, but at present, the Gallagher brothers are set to play in five cities across Ireland and the UK next summer.

According to bookies William Hill , per MailOnline , British rock band Kasabian are tipped to support Oasis on their upcoming tour, with odds at 7/4

Oasis tickets FAQ: When do tickets go on sale for Croke Park? How much?...

Oasis tickets FAQ: When do tickets go on sale for Croke Park? How much?...

Oasis tickets for the band's Dublin and UK gigs go on sale on Saturday via Ticketmaster.

It’s Definitely Maybe one of the biggest music moments in recent years (sorry, we had to) and it seems like everyone and their mother is hoping to secure tickets to see Oasis in Croke Park, Dublin, and other venues.

So, to make sure you’re best equipped, here’s everything you need to know about getting tickets for Oasis’s reunion gigs.

What do we know about the shows?

Oasis Live ’25 will kick off in Cardiff on July 4, 2025. The tour will travel to Manchester Heaton Park, Wembley and Murraryfield before making its way to Ireland.

The band will play two nights in Dublin’s Croke Park on August 16 and 17, rounding off this series of comeback gigs in the country their parents were born.

On Thursday, due to “unprecedented demand”, three new UK dates were added in Heaton Park, Wembley and Edinburgh, leaving fans hopeful for more Dublin shows. Let's see.

What will the stadium layout be like?

Tickets will be available for the upper and lower tiers in the Hogan and Cusack Stand, as well as the Davin Stand. Standing tickets will fill the pitch. No under 14s will be permitted to stand, while 15- and 16-year-olds will need to be accompanied by an adult. Under 16s in reserved seating will also need to be accompanied by an adult.

The layout for Oasis at Croke Park, Dublin. (Image: Ticketmaster)

How much will tickets be?

Tickets for the shows go on sale on Saturday, August 31, via Ticketmaster. The Irish tour dates will go on sale from 8am, while the UK dates will be released an hour later at 9am.

According to promoter MCD, the tickets will start at €86.50 (plus booking fees) – though it’s likely most people will be paying a lot more.

For Taylor Swift last year, fans paid €126 for general admission, with standing tickets going up to €206 and other packages reaching as high as €743.62.

More extensive pricing details were released for the UK shows. Taking Murrayfield in Scotland as an example, pitch standing has been listed as £151 (€179), with most seats priced at about €120-€200.

How can I get tickets?

As mentioned, it’s not going to be an easy feat to secure the tickets.

The band opened up a presale feature to allow some fans to get in ahead of the general sale. To sign up, fans had to enter their details as well as answering a question about the original lineup of the band. If they got this question wrong, they would not be successful in getting to the ballot for presale codes.

Successful applicants would receive a code to use in the presale by midday on Friday. Due to high demand, however, Oasis’s team have had to make a number of statements to say they were still processing the pre-sale ballot entries – right up to Thursday.

For those who are not lucky enough to get into the pre-sale, it’ll be every man and woman for themselves in the general sale on Ticketmaster.

Those who don’t get a ticket in Ireland could try their hand at the UK shows an hour later, but they may need to pre-register for the general sale of these shows.

Do ensure you're on the Ticketmaster site rather than any of the resale sites that might come up in a Google search, and beware scammers.

What can I do to better my chances?

First things first, make sure you have set up a Ticketmaster account, have verified it and have the log in details handy. You certainly don’t want to go scrambling for a password in the height of the panic. Log into your account in plenty before the sale.

In a similar vein, make sure your bank account details on the account are up to date and, if you keep your money in a separate account, that there is enough in your current account to cover the cost.

Charge up your phone and laptop and go somewhere with a steady internet connection – the last thing you need is a lag at the crucial moment. Private wifi is best, but Ticketmaster advises using mobile data instead of public wifi if it comes to it.

Most importantly, do not refresh the page while in the waiting room. Ticketmaster and other ticketing sites use a queuing system when they get busy, which means you will be put in an online waiting room with other fans.

Refreshing the page will not move you up further in the queue and the page will automatically update itself.

Once the sale starts, you will be able to see your place in the queue and hopefully be offered tickets at the end of it.

Bear in mind that there is a maximum of four tickets per household. Any tickets in excess of this will be cancelled.

Who actually deserves to buy tickets?

Since the announcement, there has been a lot of discussion around who actually should get to go.

Of course, by asking a question to access the eligibility of fans for the presale, the band was aiming to weed out those who jumped on the bandwagon but, with Google, it seems a bit redundant to ask a question that can be answered in seconds.

In fact, Tony McCarroll, who was the drummer in the original line-up, was trending on Wednesday as fans were searching to answer the question. This suggests that asking a question to find who is a real Oasis fan is pointless.

On social media, many people joked that “true” Oasis fans would be hassling anyone who got a ticket and who was born after the band were big – that being anyone born from the late nineties onwards. Others made memes about older men asking younger women to name three Oasis albums to prove their eligibility to go to the concerts.

One X user wrote: “Imagine waiting 15 years for Oasis to reform only to lose out on tickets to Chloe, 21, from Stockport, who just wants to hear Wonderwall live.”

Oasis fans of all ages are going to be fighting for tickets and Ticketmaster cannot prioritise who is a “real fan”.

This may be the reunion of the decade and it’ll probably be hard to find someone who isn’t going to try for tickets. Let’s leave the discussion out of who deserves to go or not and just get giddy over the fact that the Gallagher brothers are reuniting.

While Oasis' UK and Ireland dates will be available to purchase on the same day, there's an hour difference between the sale times.

Dublin's gig will be available to purchase one hour earlier at 8am, while the rest of Oasis' tour will go on sale at 9am.

This has left many Irish fans are worried that UK fans will buy the Dublin dates tickets to ensure they get to see the band.

Sean tweeted: "I might be going mad here, but isn’t Irish summer time the same as BST? Like there’s no time difference between Ireland and the UK?

"So why is there two different times for tickets going on sale?"

Joe replied: "I’d assume it’s to avoid us from the UK buying tickets for the Ireland shows at the same time as the Irish.

"Obviously wouldn’t be very fair if a load of Brits got tickets for the Irish shows over the Irish."

Sean added: "I’d say that’ll definitely happen though, cause I think Irish people can also try to buy the UK tickets from 9am if they just use the UK website over the IE website."

Another fan commented: "It means a lot of UK people will try buy tickets for Ireland in case they don't get them later?"

On the Oasis website, it states that any presale tickets will be communicated through the artist's social media platforms.

Ticket sales are limited to four per household, per show.

There will be no under 14s allowed into Croke Park for general admission and 14 and 15-year-olds must be accompanied by an adult (18+).

For reserved seating, under 16’s must also be accompanied by an adult (18+).

"We strongly advise that those wishing to purchase tickets register in advance of the sale with the relevant ticket agencies."

In a quote on the website, the band said:

In addition to their return to Dublin in August, the band will play four nights at London’s Webley Stadium.
