Port Cozumel cruise ship schedule shows timetable calendars of all arrival and departure dates by month. The port's schedule lists all ships (in links) with cruises going to or leaving from Cozumel, Quintana Roo Mexico, Riviera Maya. San Miguel de Cozumel is a major cruise port and city on Cozumel Island. Cozumel is part of Mexico's Quintana Roo state, located on Yucatan Peninsula's northeastern part. This is the most visited port of call on roundtrip voyages from the USA to the Western Caribbean.

By berthing capacity and annual cruise shipping volumes, Cozumel is currently ranked the world's 4th-largest cruise port - following only Florida's PortMiami , Port Canaveral/Orlando , and Port Everglades/Fort Lauderdale .

This Mexican port city destination attracts international tourists (mostly from the USA) with its tropical weather, snorkeling, diving and sea fishing opportunities, shopping and sightseeing. The island has population around 100,000, most of whom (around 80,000) live in San Miguel de Cozumel. In Quintana Roo is also Costa Maya (Mexico's second-largest cruise port).

Port Calica is located approx 5 mi / 8 km south of Playa del Carmen . Currently, there is a small pier serving mainly ferries to / from Cozumel (approx 12 mi / 20 km away). There are two ferry companies running the Calica (Playa del Carmen)-Cozumel ferries. Tickets cost ~USD 15 pp (roundtrip). Depending on weather, the crossing Cozumel-Calica is 30-45 min.

Puerto Cozumel (locode MXCZM) is opposite Playa del Carmen and is the principal/main cruise port to Cancun - one of Mexico's most visited tourist destinations. Cancun is best known for the Mayan archaeological sites El Rey, El Meco, Coba, Muyil, Xcaret, Kohunlich, Kinichna, Dzibanche, Oxtankah, Tulum, Chacchoben, Chichen Itza. Cancun is approx 60 mi (100 km) from Cozumel (~2,5 hours drive distance) and is served by an International Airport linking via regularly scheduled flights to Canada, USA, Central and South America, Europe.

Cozumel Island offers some of the world's best underwater tour activities, with its main tourist attractions being offshore coral reefs and numerous diving shops and tour operators. The main diving areas are located on the island's western side. Its east side is relatively undeveloped but has amazing beaches with beach restaurants every few miles. The most popular among tourists beaches are Playa Palancar and Playa Azul.

Chankanaab National Park is approx 5,5 mi (9 km) south of San Miguel. The park is open daily (between 7 am - 5 pm) and as amenities offers a lagoon, beach, restaurant, full-service bar, changing rooms, several walking trails. There you can enjoy snorkeling, scuba diving, SeaTREK helmet diving, swimming with dolphins. Another major attraction is the Cozumel Pearl Farm. This is an active farm surrounded by a mangrove lagoon and accessible only by boat.

The local economy depends heavily on tourism. The island's tropical climate determines the rainy season (from June through November) and the dry season (from December through May). The wet season is also characterized by hurricanes.

Cozumel cruise port

A single cruise vessel in Cozumel (with max passenger capacity 3000 plus max crew 500) generates on average spending USD 313740 (passengers) and USD 31740 (crew), plus nearly USD 29000 in port fees. This results in total contribution to the local economy of USD 374480 - and this is per ship.

The following statistical data was provided by the Cozumel port authority.

In 2006 the cruise port received 2,028 million passengers, out of all the 5,551 million that visited Mexico that year. In 2007, this number jumped to 2,45 million (23% increase), while Mexico saw a 10% growth (to 6+ million).

In 2009, the average per-passenger spending in Cozumel was USD 105 (17% increase over 2008) directly benefiting various local industries through purchases (goods and services), including tours (shore excursions), drinks and food, retail shopping, ground transportation services.

In 2014, the cruising industry generated in Cozumel USD 565,4 million in cruise spending (crews, passengers and shipping companies combined), 15990 local jobs, USD 93,5 million in wages (produced through cruise ship tourism).

In 2014, the cruise port handled over 3,3 million passengers. In 2017, this number reached 3,6 million, ranking Cozumel the world's leading cruise ship tourism destination. In October 2015, the port hosted the second "FCCA Cruise Conference and Trade Show" (Oct 5-9).

In December 2020, Quintana Roo media reported that a new (USD 10 pp) tourist tax on foreigners goes into effect since April 1, 2021. Details on how it will be collected or will it be applied also to cruise ship tourists were not revealed.

In early-February 2021 was proposed that following the impact of the Coronavirus crisis, Cozumel could be also used as homeport (departure port) for roundtrips to Caribbean island destinations - including Cuba. The idea is well backed up by the cheap flights from the USA and Port Cozumel's lower dockage fees, in comparison to the American ports' fees.

During the post-COVID season 2022, Port Cozumel recorded a total of 1117 ship calls and handled 2,943760 million cruisers. For season 2023, the Port had booked 1154 ship berthings (scheduled ship visits) with estimated 3,726115 million tourists.

Royal Beach Club Cozumel (Royal Caribbean Resort)

In late-March 2024, RCG/Royal Caribbean Group announced its plans for the Royal Beach Club Cozumel.

Scheduled for inauguration in 2026, this exclusive destination (to be developed at Cozumel Island's western coast) will feature several beaches (including adults-only and suite guests-only), kids playgrounds, resort-style large freshwater swimming pools, swim-up bars, various drinking and dining venues (lounges, bars, snack shacks, restaurants), Street Market (shops) as well as live music and entertainment, private cabanas (for rent), watersports activities (snorkeling/scuba diving, kayaking, windsurfing).

Cozumel cruise terminal

San Miguel de Cozumel cruise port has three different piers for docking. They all are located on the west side of the island. If in your cruise itinerary to Cozumel is added "Fundeo", that means the cruise ship will anchor in the harbor and passengers will be transported to and from the shore (Punta Langosta pier) via the ship's tender boats.

Punta Langosta Pier Cruise Terminal

Punta Langosta Pier is located right downtown San Miguel. You can walk on your own or join guided walking tour in the city. There is also a taxi rank in front the pier. Taxis are relatively inexpensive. If you want to rent a car, the closest offices are 5 blocks from the cruise ship pier.

International Pier

The largest vessels (including Royal Caribbean and NCL ships) dock at International Pier. This is Cozumel's oldest pier, located at ~5 min taxi ride from San Miguel. After disembarkation, passengers walk through a shopping plaza with various shops, restaurants, bars. This is a shopping area exclusively for cruise tourists. All the venues here open only during cruise ship calls. Prices here tend to be higher than in the city.

The pier is approx 1,5 mi / 2,5 km from downtown San Miguel (to the south). The distance is easily walkable (~30 min), and most pleasant as it is along the waterfront promenade. There is also a taxi rank in front of the cruise ship pier. Taxi ride is ~10 min. If the lines of disembarking passengers waiting for taxis are long, you can exit the pier, walk toward El Cid La Ceiba Hotel and catch a taxi on the street there.

Carnival's Puerta Maya Cruise Terminal

The third Cozumel cruise ship pier was built by Carnival Corporation and serves exclusively its brand companies' vessels. Puerta Maya is located 0,5 mi (0,8 km) south of The International Pier. The terminal (aka Little Cozumel) has the most modern and diverse facilities.

• In October 2015, Carnival Corporation inaugurated the opening of a parallel berth (3rd) to the Puerta Maya cruise pier. Carnival Freedom was the first ever ship to dock there. Since then, Puerta Maya pier has capacity of 4 vessels that can be berthed there simultaneously.
• Cozumel's 3rd (new) cruise berth cost USD 20 million. Its opening followed by just 2 days the inauguration of Carnival's new and exclusive Dominican Republic cruise port Amber Cove (USD 85 million construction project).
• In 2015, Carnival Corporation cruise ships brought to Cozumel over 1,7 million tourists.

The list of facilities at the Puerta Maya cruise ship terminal (retail shops, restaurants, bars, services) includes:

• Food and drinks are offered at Tres Amigos, Fat Tuesday, Cafe Punta del Cielo, and Pancho's Backyard.
• Retail priced shopping is offered at Dufry, Ron Jon, Miro, Eriks, Hammock Island, The T-Shirt Place, Rogers Boots, Pirana Joe, Boutique Sr Frogs, Mare Blue, Tan Tan, Veari, La Vikina, Dufry Tequileria, Lupita, and Viva Mexico.
• Jewelry and designer watches are offered at Diamond International, Who Knew, Touch O Gold, Regal Silver, Indigo, Plateria D'Alberto, Joyeria Ruby's, Milano, Joyeria Montero, Silver Emporium, Red, Fiesta Maya, Caribbean Pirates, Miro, Le Best, Reef, Del Sol, Rogers Boots, Mayan Flea Market, and Los Cinco Soles.
• Cruise passenger services are offered at Costa Dental, and Drugs & Deli.
• All car rental offices in Puerta Maya are in building 19 - Avis, Alamo, specialty cars and executive cars.
• The terminal also has a Shorex Booth (shore excursions / tours booking and information), phones, restrooms, First Aid Assistance, and Coral Reef Exhibit gallery.

Car rentals are offered by all major companies, with their offices located near the cruise piers. The San Miguel town itself is easily walkable. Its main attractions are the numerous shops and eateries. Most tourist shops are around the town's main plaza.

Port Cozumel also has a Ferry Pier located to the north of Punta Langosta. It serves the regularly scheduled ferry service between San Miguel de Cozumel and Playa del Carmen .

New cruise terminal on Cozumel Island?

In October 2018 was conducted a study for building a new (4th) cruise terminal on Cozumel Island to cope with the constantly increasing passenger shipping traffic. According to Quintana Roo state's statistics, in 2018 the island was visited by over 3,1 million cruise ship tourists (passengers and crew).

The study analyzed the possible environmental impact for the island ( transportation, waste and provision services) and its marine area . The new facility could be constructed and operated by Disney Cruise Line .

Previously, the plan for a 4th berth was rejected in June 2016 by local residents following public consultation. The site for the new terminal was in front of Marina Banco Playa (Puerto de Abrigo, island's northern coast).

• Castillo Real: this a Mayan site located near the northern tip of the island. You can see a temple, lookout tower and a pyramid base. There are also possibilities for snorkeling.
• Cozumel Park: Discover Mexico with interactive exhibits. Interesting place for lunch is Mercadito Corona. You will taste authentic cuisine surrounded by local music.
• El Cedral: the village is located near the center of the island. It was the first discovered Mayan site in 1518 by the Spanish explorers.
• Chankanaab Lagoon: amazing place for swimming and snorkeling among rainbow colored fishes.
• Museo de Cozumel: discover the history of the island. The museum also houses library, gift shop, book store and a restaurant.
• Plaza Del Sol: the main square of San Miguel.
• Punta Celarin: the lighthouse is located at the island’s southern end and has breathtaking views.
• San Gervasio Ruins: the most visited ruins.

Beaches: Cozumel offers amazing beaches. Among the most popular are Playa San Francisco and Playa Corona.

Nachi Cocom Beach is an all-inclusive beach resort (unlimited beverages) with day pass entrance. Deals are inclusive of unlimited beverages and food, free Wi-Fi internet, outdoor Jacuzzi and swimming pool. This private beach property is sized approx 185 m2 (1980 ft2). The list of amenities also includes a swim-up bar, beach bar, public restrooms, outdoor showers (freshwater), beach hammocks, palapas umbrellas, English-speaking staff, lounge chairs.

Mr Sanchos Beach Resort (Cozumel Island's southwest coast, ~15-min taxi drive from the cruise port) is all-inclusive, with day passes offering unlimited food (self-serve buffet station) and beverages (Mexican brands), beach access and amenities (chairs, umbrellas), swimming pools access (all have swim-up bars). The resort also has an aqua park (costs extra) fitted with trampolines, inflatable climbing Iceberg and climbing rock, pyramid slider, rock slider, among other attractions.

Other popular beaches are Paradise Beach, Playa Palancar, Playa Mia. Cozumel features several great resorts / eco-parks, often included in cruise lines' shore excursion offerings. The most popular among cruise tourists parks are Chankanaab, Xcaret, Punta Sur.

Is It Safe to Travel to Mexico? Here's What Cruisers Need to Know

Cruisers and other travelers from all around the world are drawn to Mexico for its beautiful beaches , rich culture and history, delicious food and drinks, and favorable currency exchange rates. But, this lovable Latin American getaway doesn't have the most shining reputation for safety. So, is it safe to travel to Mexico?

The answer is complicated but ultimately depends on where you’re going, how you’re getting there and an individual's personal safety and comfort levels. The good news is that cruise lines do much of this research for you. If crime rates rise in a Mexican cruise port to the point where safety is an issue, those ports are usually dropped from an itinerary and substituted with somewhere else. All in all, you have less to worry about on a cruise to Mexico than other types of travel.

Here is a look at what cruisers need to know in terms of Mexico safety, from travel advisories to hurricane season and more.

Is It Safe to Travel to Mexico? Decoding Travel Advisories for Mexico

The U.S. State Department's travel advisory for Mexico is currently at "Level 2: Exercise Increase Caution," but be sure to double check this before traveling to the country as this advisory can sometimes change.

Mexico’s ongoing struggles with these certain crimes (gang-related homicides, kidnapping, carjacking and robbery) should not be overlooked. Fortunately, however, a deeper dive shows many commonly-visited cruise ports are not affected by these warnings.

What Are the Most Dangerous Cities in Mexico? Know Where to Go (And Where Not to Go)

As with any country, not all cities in Mexico are equal when it comes to safety. Luckily for cruisers, the majority of Mexico’s most popular cruise ports (and shore excursion destinations like Playa del Carmen or Tulum) in the Mexican Riviera and Riviera Maya have either Level 1 or Level 2 travel advisories from the State Department, meaning travelers should either exercise normal levels of caution or increased caution, but do not need to reconsider travel.

The Mexican states of Quintana Roo, Yucatan, Chiapas, Baja California Sur, and Oaxaca are typically listed as areas with Level 1 or Level 2 advisories. This includes cruise port and shore excursion destinations like Cozumel , Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Cabo San Lucas , Costa Maya , the ruins of Chichen Itza and Salina Cruz.

On the flip side, the State Department often places other states under Level 3: Reconsider Travel advisory, like Baja California, Jalisco and Nayarit. The states of Guerrero and Sinaola (among others) are usually under a Level 4: Do Not Travel advisory. These states include cruise ports like Puerto Vallarta , Ensenada and Mazatlan , to name a few -- though in most cases, these warnings apply predominantly to non-tourist areas.

Additional Mexico Safety for Cruisers: Hurricane Season in Mexico

Seasonal tropical storms and hurricanes occur on both coasts. While there is always a risk for cruising during hurricane season, it shouldn't be the only factor in deciding to book or not.

East coast hurricane season in the Riviera Maya runs from June through November, and you’ll have a higher risk of running into a big storm between August and October. Hurricanes are less common on the West Coast, but tropical storms are no stranger to the Mexican Riviera during the May 15 to November 30 storm season, with several in past years having made landfall on Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas.

As with hurricane season in the Caribbean , however, any ships bound for ports of call that could be affected by a hurricane will simply alter course to avoid the storm.

Health Safety in Mexico: Access to Healthcare in Mexico

Overall, healthcare shouldn’t be a top concern for people cruising to Mexico. Mexico has good quality healthcare, and continually ranks higher in the World Healthcare Index than the United States .

Cruisers also have the added benefit of having an onboard medical facility and being close to major cities. When in doubt, always purchase travel health insurance for your cruise, which can help cover costs of care and repatriation should the unforeseen happen.

LGBTQI+ Safety in Mexico

Mexico is generally a very welcome destination for LGBTQI+ travelers , especially in larger tourist cities and nearly all ports of call a cruiser is likely to encounter. However, the country has a strong, conservative Roman Catholic population, and, though Mexico has a fairly-strong gay population, social rights aren’t always acknowledged.

Additionally, there is a hefty amount of transphobia in certain areas of Mexico, particularly in smaller towns. Mexico has the world’s second highest rate of violence against the trans community, which may cause trans cruisers to rethink their plans.

Is It Safe to Travel to Mexico? Mexico Is Safer Than Many Popular Tourist Destinations and U.S. Cities

Many Mexican cities and states, particularly those visited by cruise ships, are just as safe or safer than many destinations that don’t get a second thought when it comes to safety.

In June of 2023, Denmark and Germany received travel advisories of Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution, which is the same advisory level as Mexico. Yet most cruisers wouldn't think twice about booking a cruise calling on Copenhagen or Hamburg .

Though travel advisory levels and index ranking are constantly in flux, it’s always worth doing a little comparison between destinations and countries you know well in order to gain better context and understanding. A country or destination that sounds frightening at first can be no more so than your own hometown.

Is It Safe to Cruise to Mexico?

The short answer is this: Taking a cruise to Mexico is one of the safer ways to visit the country. Plus, many of the overriding concerns that travelers have about visiting Mexico are damped by the innate design of a cruise experience.

For instance, cruise ship passengers are usually only in port during daylight hours and are accounted for via the disembarkation and embarkation process, meaning eyebrows are raised and action is taken if a cruise passenger fails to return to the ship by sailing time. You’ll also sleep aboard the ship, so there’s no worry over hotel safety.

Additionally, any excursions booked through the cruise line are run by verified and vetted tour companies, and visit heavily-touristed areas. As a cruise passenger on a shore excursion, you’ll almost always be surrounded by a group and led by an English-speaking guide, which can be a lifesaver in a pinch or emergency.

Cruises are also more likely to cancel or change itineraries based on the most up-to-date safety information available. Cruise lines don’t want to put their passengers in harm’s way, and are often a more knowledgeable judge of safety situations than the general public.

What should I pack for a cruise to Mexico?

When packing for a cruise to Mexico, you’ll need clothing for a tropical climate. Bring plenty of beachwear, a sun hat, sunglasses, coverups, water shoes if you’re visiting coral sand beaches, and reef-friendly sunblock if you intend to go snorkeling.

If you book a snorkeling excursion, all gear will be provided. If there are places where you may want to snorkel independently, consider bringing your own equipment. 

Throughout the ship, casual resort wear, sundresses, shorts, polos, or button-downs are appropriate, paired with sandals, low heels, and loafers. In main and specialty dining, we ask guests to refrain from wearing swimsuits, see-through cover-ups or robes, bare feet, tank tops, T-shirts, and baseball caps. 

Smart Casual attire is required for entry to main dining, specialty dining, and the Celebrity Theatre. Smart Casual means you look comfortable yet tasteful in a dress, skirt, long pants, or jeans with a stylish top or button-down. Shorts and flip-flops are not considered Smart Casual.

Each itinerary features one to two more “formal” nights that we call Evening Chic. Evening Chic means you dress to impress, glamorous and sophisticated in your own way, with a cocktail dress, skirt, slacks, or designer jeans, an elegant dress top, or blazer—some guests even pack a tuxedo or gown for onboard photos. 

The daily program, delivered to your stateroom and available at the Guest Relations Desk, will be your guide to the correct attire each evening. If you do not wish to participate in Evening Chic, Smart Casual attire is acceptable for dining and attending the theater.

Do I need a passport?

It is the responsibility of each guest to identify and obtain all required travel documents and have them available at the pier when necessary. Before leaving home, take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the required travel documents you will be asked to provide prior to boarding the ship. You’ll find more information here.

Not all Mexico cruises require a passport. If you are an American citizen traveling from the U.S. to Mexico on a closed-loop cruise, starting and ending at the same U.S. port, a state-issued ID and an original U.S. birth certificate are sufficient. 

If you are on a cruise that’s not a closed-loop, you will need one of the following documents: U.S. passport book, passport card, Trusted Traveler card (Nexus, SENTRI, or FAST), or an enhanced driver’s license.

When’s the best time to cruise?

The peak cruise season on Mexico’s Caribbean coast is from December to April, when the days are warm and sunny, with little rain other than the occasional short, sharp evening shower. You can also cruise to Mexico’s Caribbean coast in the shoulder season, from July to November; there may be a little more rain, but hurricanes are rare here. Your safety is our priority and ships can be moved if a hurricane is forecast.

Winter is peak season to cruise to Mexico’s Pacific coast. Hurricanes can pass through between May and November, so you could expect some rain then.

What ports do you visit in Mexico?

Celebrity’s ships call at Costa Maya and Cozumel on Mexico’s Caribbean coast. On the Pacific coast, we visit Huatulco, Puerto Vallarta, Ensenada, Mazatlán, and Cabo San Lucas.

Where do Mexico cruises depart from?

Cruises to Mexico depart from Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Tampa, Los Angeles, and Orlando (Port Canaveral). As with any busy vacation destination, take sensible precautions. Don’t carry your cell phone or wallet in your back pocket, and keep your purse and camera close to you. Do not leave your belongings unattended on a beach. Do not drink tap water in Mexico—drink bottled water instead.

Are there any specific vaccinations or health requirements?

There are no specific vaccinations required to enter Mexico, but you should always make sure your regular vaccinations are up to date before traveling.

What can I do on board the ship?

We’re going on a very short cruise from California to Mexico this spring. Do we need passports for our kids, even if we don’t get off the ship? — Ben, Springfield, Va.

There’s a difference between what you need and what is a good idea to have.

Let’s begin with the first: On most cruise lines and for most itineraries, a voyage that starts and ends at the same U.S. port and stays in the Western Hemisphere will not require any American citizen — child or adult — to have a passport.

These are called closed-loop cruises, and they only need proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate plus a government-issued photo ID, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection . For people under 16, a birth certificate will suffice. Popular cruise lines including Carnival , Royal Caribbean and Norwegian detail their requirements and any exceptions online.

A sailing that leaves from one U.S. port and ends at another — or starts in the United States and ends at a foreign destination — would not be classified as a closed-loop cruise. Everyone, including kids, would need a passport in that case.

There are some caveats, warns Teresa Tennant, senior vice president of the travel planning company Cruise Specialists . Some cruise companies, including Holland America Line and Princess Cruises , say that all members of a party must have a passport if minors are traveling with only one adult.

Some other cruise lines, such as the luxury Regent Seven Seas Cruises, require a passport for all sailings.

“It’s important to always check with the cruise line, because they can set their own rules that are actually above and beyond,” Tennant said.

Customs and Border Protection also urges travelers to check with their cruise company, travel agent and destination to confirm what’s required to enter foreign countries on an itinerary.

Whether or not you are required to have a passport, cruise lines and experts say it’s smart to have one before setting sail. The task isn’t quite as onerous as it used to be, now that wait times have returned to pre-pandemic norms of six to eight weeks for routine service and two to three weeks for the expedited process.

Cruise lines say they strongly recommend that passengers opt for the passport over other forms of identification.

“A passport is the hassle-free, gold standard for traveling between countries,” Royal Caribbean says on its website. “Boarding and disembarking through customs with a passport is usually faster than other types of ID documents.”

The U.S. State Department says travelers might need their passport “in the event of an unexpected medical evacuation or if the ship docks at an alternate port.” Travelers would also need their passports if they showed up late in a foreign port and the ship left without them — which has happened to some U.S. passengers recently.

“You should bring your passport even if your cruise says you won’t need it,” the State Department says on its information page for cruise ship passengers.

Colleen McDaniel, editor in chief of the news and review site Cruise Critic , said in an email that it would be much more difficult to get home without a passport if someone had to leave the ship.

“In such a case, you might have to rely on help from a U.S. embassy or consulate to return, which can take time,” she said.

Cruise Passenger, 23, Reportedly Falls Overboard After Texting Wife He Felt Seasick

A 23-year-old passenger is presumed dead  after falling from the MSC Euribia cruise ship, according to multiple reports .

Liam Jones, a social work student from Scotland, was last seen on March 16 while on a seven-day tour cruise from Southampton to Amsterdam with his family, the  Daily Record reports .

Jones’ wife, Sophia Mcphee, 20, told the outlet that Jones texted her right before his disappearance to tell her he was feeling seasick. 

“He’s just gone. I’m never going to see him again,” Mcphee told the Daily Record . “I’m devastated. I have so many questions, and I’m not getting any answers to what’s happened.”

Mcphee told U.K.’s Metro that Jones’ sister broke the news to her on the phone and explained that security camera footage showed Jones falling overboard. 

“She said there had been an accident and Liam ‘wasn’t coming back.’ She then said she had seen CCTV and he’d gone overboard,” Mcphee recalled. 

But Mcphee said she hasn’t been updated on the investigation since hearing about his disappearance. She told the Daily Record that the last time she had seen Jones was on March 14 when he traveled to visit family in Glasgow before they boarded the cruise the following day.  

“I’ve been trying to get in contact with the MSC since Monday, but it’s been a headache,” Mcphee told the Daily Record. “They’re not getting back to me.”

MSC Cruises didn’t immediately respond to HuffPost’s requests for comment. 

Police reportedly boarded the cruise ship on March 22 to investigate the incident upon its return to Southampton, Metro reports. 

The cruise line suspects the man intentionally went overboard, Fox10 News reports .

In a statement to the Daily Record, MSC Cruises said it is “deeply saddened” by the news of Jones’ disappearance. 

“A passenger on board MSC Euribia was reported missing, who we believe intentionally went overboard, on 17 March as the ship sailed from Hamburg to Rotterdam,” the cruise line said. 

“The authorities have been informed and have been on board the vessel. We are deeply saddened by this news and our thoughts are with the family at this very difficult time,” the statement continued. “Out of respect for the family’s privacy we will refrain from disclosing any additional information.”
