Disney Cruise Key to the World Card (Finally Explained)

key to the world card lanyard

If you are a first time cruiser with Disney Cruise Line, you may not realize the importance of the Key to the World Card.

Even if you have cruised before, there may still be some characteristics of or uses for the card that you haven’t really noticed.

One of the best ways to maximize your cruise experience is by using the Disney Cruise Key to the World card. This handy little card lets you access your stateroom, make charges on your account, and more.

In this post, I will explain what the Key to the World Card is and why it is so important. I will also discuss my family’s favorite Key to the World Card holder!

Here’s what you need to know about using your Key to the World card on your next Disney cruise.

How to Activate Your Disney Key to the World Card

When you arrive at the Disney Cruise Line terminal on the first day of your cruise, also known as embarkation day , you will go through security just like you would at the airport.

You will then head to a check in counter where you will show your ID and Port Arrival Form. (We like to print a paper copy at home to take with us.)

Disney Cruise Boarding Card

It is at this counter where a Disney cast member will officially check you in for your cruise! This whole process goes really quickly. But, a lot of important things happen, which can make it a stressful process.

Once your boarding number is called, you are permitted to board the Disney cruise ship. Stepping onto the Disney ship this first day is a really exciting moment. The cast members even announce your name and applaud as you enter!

Disney Cruise Planner

At around 1:30 on embarkation day, your stateroom should be ready. It is here that you will find your Key to the World Card as Disney Cruise Line places them outside your cabin door.

You do not need to do anything special to activate this Key to the World Card. Instead, your main job is to NOT lose it!

How to Read the Key Card

Once you receive your Key to the World Card, it may appear to show a bunch of random letters. However, each part of the card is significant in its own way.

I am including a photo of one of my Key the World Cards below. This card was gold because we sailed in the Concierge level for this trip. Normally, the Key to the World Card would be blue.

At the top of the card, you will notice dates. These are the dates of your cruise. This information is followed by the name of the ship on which you are sailing.

Disney Cruise Key to the World Card

The “A” beside the ship’s name stands for adult . My kids had an “M” on their cards to show that they are minors. Next, the “PA” letters indicate that I purchased Disney Cruise Line ground transportation .

The “P” signals that I purchased transfers to the port while the “A” shows that I paid for transportation to the airport after the cruise. If you are unsure of how to arrive at or leave the port, I highly recommend the Disney Cruise Line transfers!

They are a super easy and convenient way to travel. especially if you have toddlers and little kids in your party!

Castaway Club

On the line underneath where the ship’s name is printed, you will find your full name followed by your Castaway Club level.

After your first cruise with Disney Cruise Line, you automatically become a silver Castaway Club member. If you are in the Castaway Club, your member number will be printed on your Key to the World Card as well.

Dining Rotation

(Please note that Disney Cruise Line no longer includes dining times and rotations on the Key to the World Cards. However, I will leave the information below as it briefly explains the dining rotation process.)

Your dining rotation is also listed on your Key to the World card. The Disney Magic has three main dining rooms: Lumiere’s, Animator’s Palate, and Rapunzel’s Royal Table. You can see that my Key to the World Card shows an “L” first, meaning that we ate at Lumiere’s on the first night of our cruise.

Animator’s Palate on the Disney Magic

You will also notice that the “A” for Animator’s Palate is listed twice (as is the “L”). This is because we ate at Animator’s Palate on both night 2 and night 3 of the cruise.

Even though we were in the same dining room for two nights in a row, Disney Cruise Line switched up the menu. So, you will have completely different menu options even if you eat in the same dining room.

Muster Drill Location

The final item on the Key to the World card is your muster station location. The muster drill is the emergency evacuation drill that takes place on embarkation day. It usually starts at around 4:00 in the afternoon before you officially set sail.

Your stateroom door will show a map of the ship along with the best way to get to your muster station. You will notice on the Key to the World card pictured above that our muster station was P.

Disney Cruise Line Muster Station

We walked down to Deck 4 of the ship at the time of the drill and found letters of the alphabet broadly displayed throughout the deck. You simply find the letter that matches your Key to the World Card. A Disney Cruise Line cast member will then swipe your family’s cards to check you in for the drill.

Room Key and More

Your Key to the World card is super important while cruising! Below is a list of all the places we used our Key to the World Card on our last cruise:

  • Stateroom – Your Key Card serves as the key to your stateroom. Similar to a key card at a hotel, you need to swipe this card at your door any time you want to enter your room.
  • Muster Drill – As mentioned above, a cast member will swipe your card to show that you are in attendance.
  • Security – You will need to swipe this card every single time you leave or board the ship. So, make sure you take it with you when visiting ports.
  • Shops – You use your Key to the World Card any time you want to make a purchase on board the cruise ship. This includes any time you want to purchase specialty food or beverages that are an additional cost.
  • Launderette – You even use this important card if you choose to do laundry on board the ship!

Disney Cruise Lanyard

Many people choose to hold their Key to the World Card in a lanyard. Lanyards are easily worn around your neck to keep the card handy since its needed so often.

Do you get a lanyard on a Disney cruise?

If you are a Castaway Club member and have cruised with Disney Cruise Line, you will be given lanyards at check-in on embarkation day.

If you are new to Disney Cruise Line, you can purchase Key to the World Card holders before your trip. These are the lanyards my family really likes! (Amazon Affiliate Link)

On our most recent cruise, my husband kept his Key to the World Card in his phone case instead of in a lanyard. His phone case has a small pocket on the back to hold his driver’s license, credit cards, and cash. You can see this handy phone case that we both use here. (Amazon Affiliate Link)

He carried his phone with him the whole time we were on the ship because he used it to take pictures. It was easy for him to just keep his Key to the World Card in the phone pocket since he is used to having his important items there anyway!

Final Thoughts on the Disney Cruise Key Card

Your Key to the World Card on your Disney cruise is a lot like a Magic Band at Disney World.

Your identification information and credit card are linked to the card, so it is really the only thing you need to ALWAYS have with you on board.

The key card is one of the many things that makes a vacation with Disney Cruise Line so easy! You don’t have to worry about juggling ID’s, credit cards, cash, keys, etc. While sailing, you just show your Key to the World Card, and you’re good to go!

Disney Cruise Line is also implementing DisneyBand+ on select cruises. While these bands come at a cost, they allow you to easily wear your account information on your list like at Disney World.

Although, it’s important to note that you will still need the actual Key to the World Card when you debark and re-enter the ship in port.

We hope you have a fabulous time on your upcoming Disney Cruise Line vacation!

Disney cruise line lanyards.

We have discussed Disney Cruise Line’s Key to the World Card .  After reading that post, you may wonder how you are going to carry your card around?

First Time Disney Cruiser

If you are a first time cruiser, you are going to have to provide your own lanyard.  Disney only provides lanyards to return cruisers.  Here is a great choice that is available on board the ship:

Disney Cruise Line Lanyard Wallet

What I like the most about this choice is that not only will it hold your Key to the World card, but it has a small zipper pocket as well for cash.  The Key to the World card will also slide out of the pocket for it easily vs the standard lanyard, which has to be taken out of the plastic pouch (which sticks to the card).

Specialty Cruises

There are many more Star Wars Lanyards available on Amazon!

There are some great ones available for Marvel as well!

Returning Disney Cruiser

If you are a member of the Castaway Club, which is Disney’s frequent cruisers club, Disney will give you a lanyard when you arrive at the port for boarding.  To be a member of the Castaway Club, you only have to complete one cruise.  When you arrive for your second cruise, you will have a lanyard waiting for you.

For your second through fifth cruises, you will get a Silver Lanyard.  We haven’t been Silver for a while, so I don’t personally have one of the new Silver Lanyards.  Luckily, our friends sent us a picture of the one they just received.  Here are the different Silver Castaway Club Lanyards we have received over the years:

Old Silver Castaway Club Lanyard

For your sixth through tenth cruises, you will get a Gold Lanyard.  You are a Gold Castaway Club member after you have completed your fifth cruise.  Here are the different Gold Castaway Club Lanyards we have received over the years:

Old Gold Castaway Club Lanyard

For your eleventh and subsequent cruises, you will get a Platinum Lanyard.  You are a Platinum Castaway Club member after you have completed your tenth cruise.  We have only been Platinum for one cruise.  Here is the lanyard we received:

Current Platinum Castaway Club Lanyard

Putting on your lanyard is one of the best feelings because it means your awesome Disney Cruise is about to begin!

How to Carry Your Cruise Card (cruise lanyards & alternatives)

how to carry a cruise card cruise lanyards

Sharing is caring!

If you’re going on a cruise, there is one very practical cruise item that you won’t want to cruise without. A cruise lanyard!

I resisted for a while, but now make sure that I always travel with cruise lanyards to carry my cruise card.

Since you’ll need to carry your cruise card everywhere you go, a cruise lanyard (or an alternative) will ensure that you never misplace or fumble for your cruise key card.

Why Do Cruisers Use a Lanyard?

cruise-lanyard

If you’re a first time cruiser , you might wonder why cruise passengers would need a lanyard. Lanyards are used to hold a cruise card, which serves as a room key card and more.

Since you’ll need your cruise key card to pay for drinks, make reservations and get off and on the cruise ship in port, it’s essential that you always have you cruise card on you.

It’s not uncommon for cruise passengers to lose or misplace their key cards, often at the worst times. For example, if you’re trying to get into a show and need your card scanned, you must have it. If you’ve misplaced it, you’ll need to go to guest services to have a new one made.

If you want to save yourself time and anguish, it’s a good idea to use a cruise lanyard or a lanyard alternative to carry your cruise card.

Do I Need a Lanyard to Cruise?

Cruise Lanyards are a convenience, but they are not mandatory for cruise passengers. Keep in mind that you’ll be using your cruise card several times a day.

You’ll need to present your cruise card ID every time at the bar, at specialty restaurants, at the coffee shop, at the onboard gift shops, at the casino, to play bingo and to get on and off the cruise ship.

Having a lanyard is a safe and convenient way to make sure that you don’t misplace your cruise ship card. Trust me, it happens to the best of us…

Do Cruise Lines Give Out Free Lanyards?

Most cruise lines don’t give out free lanyards. However, there are some exceptions.

Disney Cruise Line

Disney Cruises gives out lanyards to past passengers or Castaway Club members. First timers will need to bring their own.

Princess Cruise Lanyards ( for Medallions)

Princess Cruises give out a basic free lanyard with the Princess Medallion (replaces the cruise card). You can also purchase accessories for your Ocean Medallion before or during your cruise.

Carnival Cruise Lanyards

Many cruisers report that Carnival used to give out free lanyards in the cruise ship casino (as part of the Players Club). However, it seems like this has stopped in recent times.

Carnival does sell lanyards onboard, from sporty styles to blingy styles.

What to Look for in a Cruise Lanyard?

When purchasing a cruise lanyard, you’ll want to make sure that it has a plastic sleeve with a sealed waterproof pouch to hold your cruise card. This is because you may want to keep a few dollars in it while out in a port for an excursion. You can also add your license or government ID and remain hands free.

You cruise lanyard pouch should be able to fit a standard cruise card (they are all the same size). The size of a cruise key card is very similar to a credit card and measures 3 3/8 in length by 2 1/4 in width.

You’ll want a sturdy attachment and you may want to have a detachable clip for versatility.

Where Can I Purchase a Cruise Lanyard?

There are a wide variety of cruise lanyards sold on Amazon and other online retailers. You can also purchase lanyards for your cruise on the cruise ship, although availability may be limited.

Final Thoughts on How to Carry a Cruise Card

Since cruising is a cash free environment, your cruise card serves not only as a key card for your cabin, but as a charge card as well. A cruise lanyard is a convenient way to make sure you always have this with you.

Do you use a cruise ship lanyard or an alternative card holder? Please let me know in the comments below.

I carry an alternative

Just returned from an Alaska cruise and hubby and I used the retractable card holder (from Walmart). So convenient. Tight attachment kept it secured to a belt loop or shirt edge.

Great! Thanks for sharing

My pocket works fine!

' src=

I like using my lanyard, but tuck it under my shirt while in port so that every vendor doesn’t know I am a cruiser and up the price for me immediately.

Great idea!

Do you know…..does the lanyard have to be see-through on both sides? I am seeing some cute lanyards that have a fabric covering on one side with a clear window on the other. Will they be able to scan this way, or will I need to constantly take it out of the lanyard to utilize it? Thanks!

It doesn’t need to be clear. You may still need to take it out of the holder to scan 🙂

The one surprising travel accessory you can't go on a cruise without

Ashley Kosciolek

When I was in junior high, a solid three years before I could legally drive, I asked my parents for a lanyard. They were all the rage among teenagers — particularly high schoolers who used them to corral their car keys. Long gone are the days when my bright orange Adidas neck strap was stylish. That is, of course, unless I'm on a cruise, where passengers often use lanyards to secure their keycards. Keycards serve as both room keys and the only payment card accepted on cashless cruise ships, so wallets aren't necessary.

I've never actually brought my lanyard with me on a sailing, opting instead to carry my card in a pocket or my trusty, tiny Kate Spade crossbody (see below). But cruise lanyards are so popular among at-sea travelers — particularly children who might otherwise lose them and casino regulars, who need quick access for those slot machines — that I'd fit right in if I were to decide to go "vintage" (read: touristy).

Although these accessories don't seem like they'd require too much thought, you might be surprised at the variety available. From simple nylon numbers and flashy ones bedazzled with rhinestones for formal night to options that include protective plastic sleeves, here are some of the best cruise lanyards, along with a few non-lanyard alternatives.

Note: For some of these, you'll need to punch a hole in your keycard. Lines that don't automatically provide punched cards can usually accommodate the request at the front desk, but you might want to pack your own hole puncher, just in case. However, cruisers should be mindful that some keycards contain RFID technology that can be damaged by hole-punching.

Faux leather lanyards

disney cruise key lanyard

For some classy flair, try a leather lanyard , which can be either dressed down for everyday use or dressed up to go with any dinner outfit during your cruise. This option is made of faux leather, which means it's vegan-friendly, and it comes in a variety of colors to boot. Amazon sells this lanyard in a two-pack, complete with a see-through cardholder so you won't have to punch a hole in your keycard, unless you'd rather use only the trigger clip.

Retractable lanyard necklaces

disney cruise key lanyard

Necklace lanyards are a dressier way to wear your keycard around your neck. I like this two-pack, which comes with one silver and one rose gold lanyard, plus a removable, retractable clip that allows for extra length so you don't have to bend down to open your cabin door. You can also choose to attach your card with a keychain-style split ring, a lobster clasp or a clear, removable card pocket.

Crossbody phone holder

disney cruise key lanyard

Personally, I'm always trying to juggle my phone and my keycard when I cruise; I usually put them in a small crossbody bag that holds both without being too cumbersome. I have a Kate Spade one , and I absolutely love it.

If that's too big or you're not someone who carries their phone around while they're sailing, I recommend a card holder . (I have a similar one, also by Kate Spade. The brand's now-defunct counterpart, Jack Spade, has a few still for sale out there, too. So do brands like Michael Kors, Herschel and Timberland.) The nice thing about a card holder is that it fits easily into a pocket, and both of these products are appropriate for everyday use, even when you aren't at sea.

Glitter lanyards

disney cruise key lanyard

For passengers with the brightest of personalities, these sparkly rhinestone lanyards offer just the right amount of eye-catching glitz and glamour. Plus, they're versatile. You can choose to attach your punched keycard via a keychain-style ring, a standard trigger clip or a trigger clip that's attached to a retractable reel for easier access. This three-pack comes with one black, one silver and one pink lanyard.

Beaded lanyards

disney cruise key lanyard

In my opinion, these silicone-beaded types are some of the most stylish lanyards available if you insist on wearing one. They look like necklaces but without the metallic or rhinestone touches. There are two ways to attach a punched card — with a metal trigger clip or a keychain-style split ring, both of which can be detached. They're sold in packs of two or three, each with a different design. They clasp in the back and can be adjusted to the desired length.

Stretchable wrist coils

disney cruise key lanyard

If you just can't see yourself buying a lanyard for cruise use, these wrist coils are trendy, stylish and comfortable, as well as durable. They ensure your cruise keycard won't get lost but aren't as obtrusive as a neck lanyard. This pack offers six different colors so you and your travel companions can quickly tell whose is whose if you take them off. Bonus: Use them pre- or post-cruise for your keys, or remove the detachable split rings to use the coils as hair ties.

Basic nautical lanyards

disney cruise key lanyard

For those who want a lanyard truly befitting a cruise experience, a nautical print is the way to go. This style is basic, featuring a metal trigger clip and a clear card protector, allowing you to choose whether you'd like to punch a hole in your card or put it in a protective sleeve. The order contains two lanyards in reverse blue-and-white color patterns so you and your travel companion can differentiate whose card is whose at a glance.

Detachable, retractable nautical lanyards

disney cruise key lanyard

Similar to the basic nautical style above, this style offers a plastic clip that converts the lanyard to a smaller wristlet size that won't tangle in a purse or pocket. There's also a retractable cord that provides extra length so you can stretch your card to your cabin door card reader or the nearest onboard register without taking the lanyard off. This two-pack includes two identical lanyards , but unlike the ones above, they don't offer a clip or clasp option, making the plastic card sleeve a necessity.

Ridge minimalist slim wallet

disney cruise key lanyard

For anyone looking for a cardholder without a strap, this industrial-style slim wallet by Ridge is made from military-grade RFID-blocking materials, fits easily into a pocket and features a lifetime guarantee. With its card slot and money clip, this wallet will not only secure your cruise keycard and small bills for tipping, but also it's great for everyday use when you're at home.

Basic solid lanyards

disney cruise key lanyard

Whether you're traveling with a large group or need several lanyard colors to match all the outfits in your cruise wardrobe, this pack of eight basic solid-colored lanyards comes with swivel J hooks to keep your card secure and easily accessible. They're more traditional in that they aren't detachable or retractable, but they do come with plastic card sleeves.

Basic solid wrist strap lanyards

disney cruise key lanyard

Want a less noticeable but equally effective way to tote your keycard? These basic solid-colored wrist straps , designed to carry USB drives, double as ideal lanyards for feather-light cruise cards. They have no extra bells or whistles, but they do come in a large pack with a variety of colors. To use them, you'll need to punch holes in your cards to take advantage of the small nylon thread loops.

Retractable belt clip badge holder

disney cruise key lanyard

If you're in the market for a quick-draw utilitarian-style way to carry your card, consider a retractable one that clips handily to a belt , belt loop or purse with a carabiner clip. Attach your cruise keycard to it with a split ring by punching a hole in it, or use the provided tab to connect a clear plastic card holder (not included). This product also comes with a one-year warranty.

Woven wrist strap lanyards

disney cruise key lanyard

Some of the most rugged and durable lanyards for cruises are these thick woven-style ones, which seem like they'd hold up for many voyages. They're shorter than a standard lanyard, come in lots of colors and patterns, and include a real leather fastener that connects to a round lobster clasp that's perfect for keycards with holes. This wristlet-style card wrangler is great for keeping your card close without wearing it around your neck.

How to Read your Disney Cruise Key to the World Card Like a Pro

' src=

Imagine this… you just checked in for your Disney Cruise, received your boarding group and the weekly Navigator, and you were starting to slide your Disney Key to the World card into your lanyard…

What do all those abbreviations on your Key to the World card mean?

Are they important? ( Hint, most are!)

Here’s what you need to know.

Key Takeaways:

  • The Key to the World card is one of your most important things to carry while on a Disney Cruise.
  • It acts like your room key, your cruise identification, your contactless wallet and has different codes on it for your dining reservations

What is the Disney Key to the World card?

Before we discuss how to read it, you may be curious as to what you need it for. Here’s a quick outline:

  • Room key – Simply tap your key to the door sensor
  • Identification for boarding – Your KTTW card will be scanned every time you leave the ship, then when you return. In fact, they know who you left with! One time, Kevin wanted to walk around the port more, so he didn’t come back with me. The crew member asked me if he was returning later.
  • Credit card  – No need to carry money with you as Disney’s Key to the World card charges your main account. Things like onboard merchandise, coffee at the Cove Café or any specialty drinks can be charged.
  • Disney photos – Often, the Disney photographers will scan your card (other times they just ask for your room number) before they take your picture (similar to how they do it at the parks).

Okay, this is pretty obvious – these are your sailing dates.

Three pieces of information are listed here:

  • Your ship name
  • (A) – adult or (M) – minor
  • P – to the port
  • A – return to the airport
  • R – return to a Disney World resort

You can have a combination of these, such as mine reads ‘PA’ means I purchased Disney transportation to the port as well as back to the airport.

Another obvious one – your name

This is your Castaway Club membership. Each person in your stateroom will have a unique number. In addition, if this is your first time cruising (like it was mine), it will only have this number. If you have previously sailed with Disney Cruise Line (and saved money booking a Disney placeholder cruise) , it will say your status such as Silver, Gold or Platinum.

If your Key to the World card is yellow instead of blue, you are booked in a Concierge room and have access to the Concierge Lounge.

Dinner seating time and table number. If you are eating in one of the main dining room restaurants, this is what time you should be at the doors. Your table number will be the same even as you rotate among restaurants.

Your dining rotation. On Disney Cruises, dinner seating is rotated among the three restaurants. Follow this chart so you know where to eat!

Disney Cruise restaurant names and symbol for each ship:

Disney Fantasy:

  • (E) – Enchanted Garden
  • (R) – Royal Court
  • (A) – Animator’s Palette

Disney Dream:

  • (R) – Royal Palace

Disney Magic:

  • (L) – Lumiere’s
  • (C) – Carioca’s

Disney Wonder:

  • (TI) – Tiana’s Place
  • (TR) – Triton’s

As a side note, your disembarkation breakfast is always served in the restaurant where you had dinner the night before. For example, on our Key to the World card, ‘A’, for Animator’s Palette, is where we had dinner on our last cruise night and also where we had breakfast before leaving the ship.

Two items are listed here. First is the station number of where you checked in. This doesn’t really mean anything.

Then, in the bottom right corner of your Key to the World card, you may find a ‘DV’ or ‘NC’. The DV means your Disney Visa card is on file and some discounts could apply to you.

‘NC’ means no charging. When checking in online, you have the option to give your children charging privileges or not. I chose not to, therefore, my daughter’s card shows ‘NC’.

Disney Cruise line card with an arrow pointing to NC meaning No charging privileges

The final piece of information is the large letter in the bottom left corner. This is your muster station. It is where you need to go for the mandatory muster drill before the ship sails. Be sure to bring your Key to the World card (only one card needed per stateroom) as crew members will swipe it to verify you were there.

Now you know everything!

Ok, now that you know every single piece of information on this card, where are you going to put it? If you have cruised with Disney before, they provide you with Disney Cruise lanyards . If this is your first cruise, you need to bring your own. Pick up some cute ones on Amazon like these:

Guide to Disney’s Key to the World Card

Disney’s Key to the World Card is the ultimate passport to enchantment and convenience within the magical realm of Disney. As a coveted possession for every visitor, this card serves as your all-in-one access key to Walt Disney World, seamlessly combining the functions of a room key, park ticket, and PhotoPass card into a single, convenient card. With the Key to the World Card in hand, you’ll unlock the gateway to unforgettable adventures, effortless navigation, and endless possibilities throughout the enchanting realms of Disney parks and resorts.

What is the Key to the World Card?

Disney’s Key to the World Card is a versatile and simple tool for guests visiting Walt Disney World. This all-in-one card serves as a room key, park ticket, entry into Lightning Lanes with Genie+, and PhotoPass card, eliminating the need to carry multiple items during your stay.

Where Do You Get a Key to the World Card?

Upon check-in at a Disney resort, guests receive their Key to the World Card. This card not only grants access to your hotel room but also acts as your ticket to the enchanting theme parks, allowing you to effortlessly enter and exit the parks throughout your visit.

If you are staying off-site at a non-Disney Resort you can pick a Key to the World Card at Guest Relations prior to entering the park.

What Can A Key to the World Card Do?

Guide to Disney’s Key to the World Card 3

Disney’s Key to the World Card offers a range of functionalities and benefits for guests visiting Walt Disney World. Here is a comprehensive list of what the Key to the World Card can do:

  • Room Key: The card serves as your key to access your hotel room in Disney resorts. Just like a typical hotel key, the Key to the World Card is a thin credit card-like “key”.
  • Park Ticket: The card acts as your park ticket, granting entry to the theme parks throughout your stay. PRO-TIP: Make sure your tickets are linked to your My Disney Experience app just in case you lose your Key to the World Card.
  • Lightning Lanes: The Key to the World Card allows you to book and manage Lightning Lanes selections with Genie+ for attractions, entertainment, and character experiences.
  • PhotoPass: The card can be linked to your Disney PhotoPass account, enabling you to conveniently collect and view your digital photos taken by Disney’s professional photographers.
  • Special Event Reservations: You can use the Key to the World Card to make reservations for special events, tours, and experiences within the Walt Disney World Resort.
  • Convenience: By consolidating room key, park ticket, and payment functions into one card, the Key to the World Card reduces the need to carry multiple items, making it a convenient and efficient tool for your stay.

The Key to the World Card offers guests a seamless and hassle-free experience, allowing them to fully immerse themselves in the magic of Walt Disney World.

How Much Does the Key to the World Card Cost?

One notable advantage of Disney’s Key to the World Card is that it is provided to guests free of charge, unlike the MagicBand. When staying at a Disney resort, guests receive their Key to the World Card upon check-in as part of their accommodation package. This means there is no additional cost associated with acquiring and using the card. While the MagicBand offers its own set of features and customization options, it comes with a separate purchase cost.

The Key to the World Card provides a convenient and cost-effective option for guests who may prefer a complimentary and all-in-one solution for their room key, park ticket, and PhotoPass needs during their Walt Disney World visit, while helping you stay on budget.

Disney’s Key to the World Card vs. MagicBand

Guide to Disney’s Key to the World Card 4

The Key to the World Card is a slim credit card sized “key” that will allow you access to everything Disney World has to offer guests. However, it is very easy to lose since you need your park ticket dozens of times per day.

On the other hand, the Disney Magic Band is a wearable device that is worn on the wrist. It also functions as a room key, park ticket, and payment method (for resort guests), but it provides additional features that the Key to the World Card does not have. The Magic Band can be customized with various designs, colors, and even personalized names. It uses RFID technology, allowing for touchless entry and interaction with various touchpoints throughout the resort. It also enables guests to access PhotoPass photos, store dining reservations, and participate in interactive experiences like Disney’s MagicBands-enabled attractions.

See all of the MagicBands available in Disney World here…

While both the Key to the World Card and the Disney Magic Band serve similar purposes, they offer distinct advantages based on personal preferences. The Key to the World Card is ideal for guests who prefer a card-based system and a lightweight option, while the Magic Band appeals to those who enjoy wearing a customizable wristband and want to take advantage of its additional features. Ultimately, whether you choose the Key to the World Card or the Magic Band, both options provide convenient access and seamless integration for an enchanting experience at Walt Disney World.

See hidden features on MagicBands here.

Disney’s Key to the World Card vs. Magic Mobile

Disney’s Key to the World Card and the new Disney Magic Mobile are two distinct digital solutions that offer convenience and accessibility to guests at Walt Disney World.

The Key to the World Card is a physical card that combines room key, park ticket, and PhotoPass functions into a single card. It provides a tangible and easy-to-use option for guests who prefer carrying a card during their visit. With the Key to the World Card, guests can access their hotel room, enter the theme parks, and make purchases throughout the resort. It offers a reliable and familiar experience, particularly for guests who may not have a compatible smartphone or prefer not to rely solely on digital technology.

In contrast, the new Disney Magic Mobile transforms guests’ smartphones into a digital key and payment method. By using the My Disney Experience app on compatible smartphones, guests can add their park tickets, hotel room keys, and even payment information to their device. This allows guests to conveniently access their hotel room, enter the parks, and make purchases by simply tapping their smartphone at designated touchpoints. The Disney Magic Mobile provides a contactless and paperless experience, eliminating the need to carry physical cards.

One advantage of the Key to the World Card is its simplicity and reliability. As a physical card, it doesn’t rely on battery life or smartphone compatibility. Guests can easily slip it into a wallet, pocket, or use a lanyard for convenient access throughout their stay. It also offers a sense of nostalgia and familiarity for those who prefer the traditional card-based approach.

On the other hand, Disney Magic Mobile offers a more streamlined and futuristic experience. With just a few taps on their smartphones, guests have access to their hotel room, park tickets, and PhotoPass. It reduces the need to carry extra items and provides a seamless, contactless interaction at various touchpoints throughout the resort. Additionally, the Magic Mobile can integrate additional features like PhotoPass, dining reservations, and interactive experiences, making it a comprehensive digital tool.

Ultimately, the choice between the Key to the World Card and the Disney Magic Mobile depends on personal preference and technological compatibility. Guests who prefer a tangible card and a reliable option may opt for the Key to the World Card, while those who embrace digital solutions and want a streamlined, contactless experience may find the Disney Magic Mobile more appealing. Both options aim to enhance the guest experience by providing convenient access and seamless transactions at Walt Disney World.

Best Ways to Carry Key to the World Card

Using a lanyard is a popular and convenient way to carry your Key to the World Card at Walt Disney World. A lanyard allows you to keep your card easily accessible while keeping your hands free for other activities. To make the most of this carrying method, consider investing in a lanyard that has a clear plastic pouch or cardholder attachment specifically designed to hold the card securely. This ensures that your Key to the World Card remains visible and protected from potential damage or loss.

Additionally, opting for a lanyard with a breakaway feature is recommended for safety purposes, as it allows the lanyard to detach easily in case it gets caught on something. Wearing your Key to the World Card on a lanyard not only provides practicality but also adds a touch of Disney flair to your outfit, making it a stylish and efficient way to carry your essential card throughout the parks and resorts.

Amazon has tons of great options for Disney Lanyards!

Disney Cruise Line Key to the World vs. Disney World Key to the World Card

Guide to Disney’s Key to the World Card 5

While both the Key to the World Card at Walt Disney World and the Key to the World Card on a Disney Cruise share the same name, there are notable differences in their functionalities and purposes.

At Walt Disney World, the Key to the World Card is primarily used as a multipurpose card that combines the functions of a room key, park ticket, and PhotoPass. It allows guests to access their hotel rooms, enter the theme parks, and manage Lightning Lane selections.

On a Disney Cruise, the Key to the World Card serves as a comprehensive identification and access card. It acts as your stateroom key, onboard charge card, and serves as identification for getting on and off the ship at ports of call. The card is personalized with your name and stateroom number and also holds important information such as your dining rotation and seating assignment. It becomes your essential companion for accessing various amenities and services onboard the ship, including dining venues, spa facilities, kids’ clubs, and more.

While both cards offer convenience and simplify your experience, their functionalities are tailored to the specific needs of their respective Disney destinations. The Key to the World Card at Walt Disney World focuses on park access within the resort, while the Key to the World Card on a Disney Cruise provides access to onboard amenities and serves as a comprehensive identification and payment tool throughout your voyage. Understanding the unique features of each card will help you make the most of your Disney vacation, whether it’s exploring the parks or embarking on a magical cruise adventure.

Guide to Disney’s Key to the World Card 6

I am a mother of three that has refused to grow up. Adulting is for the birds, so I go to Disney World every chance I get for that magical escape from reality. I believe that Haunted Mansion is the best ride in all of the Disney Parks, and I am fervently in team Happily Ever After for fireworks spectaculars, (sorry, not sorry, Enchanted). Finally, I hope I never grow tired of skipping down Main Street, USA, and my dream come true would be “friends with” the Fairy Godmother in my old age.

Ready! Only 8 days to go…

' src=

I would love to see what the back of the lanyard looks like. And for the gifts are they additive? Otherwise i think guests will be unhappy they didn’t get what was in the lower tier in addition to their own.

' src=

As mentioned in the article based on the video, the gifts are additive.

' src=

With how DCL has handled castaway club gifts, I am surprised. If it is the normal way of the gift matching your level, gold will be disappointed. Hopefully, they do stack!

' src=

So you are saying that Pearl will get all 4 gifts? Sorry it just isn’t clear to me from the video or the word “additive”… and I know how stingy sometimes DCL is about gifts!

Yes, all 4 for Pearl.

' src=

i still don’t understand why this is only the summer cruises. All other Anniversary celebrations run for a whole year.

Silver Anniversary at Sea ends just before the Halloween on the High Seas cruises are set to resume. Then, there is Very MerryTime before the Marvel Day at Sea and Pixar Day at Sea resume early next year and basically run out 365-day cycle.

' src=

Wonder it’s permanent or 25 years event only?!

' src=

They all look great; I am excited for my Magic/SSR/Wish cruises to begin. First time DCL cruisers be ready to inherit these goodies beginning on the Magic July 22, 2023. I only “need” one set unless they differ for the ships.

' src=

Hmmm. Part of me is sad to miss this with our last sailing just ending… but I don’t know how I feel about the lanyards actually. Too hard to distinguish from far away. I was looking forward to finally getting that black platinum lanyard this year.

Also, are the lanyards just one sided now? No more flipping to show ID on one side and KTTW card on the other?

' src=

I’m going to take a wild guess and say the regular silver, gold, platinum, and now pearl lanyard with a clear ouch attached for your KTTWC will be given to you still. These 25 anniversary gifts & lanyards are the celebration items. Just thinking that because the presenter said these items were “one per stateroom”

The gifts are one per stateroom. Lanyards are still per person.

' src=

Any mention of the print that was said to be given to all Castaway members as well?

' src=

hate how platinum and silver lanyards look pretty much exactly alike…but besides that these are great!

' src=

Sad the 8 night Southern Caribbean cruise on the Disney Magic May 5-13 is not included in the 25th Anniversary Celebration ?!

' src=

We just turned Platinum over the summer on the Maiden Wish. Had 3 more sailings after that on the Wish. While we loved the Inaugural Sailings tote bag, we were really looking forward to the new cooler. Our next 4 sailing are all going to be Silver Anniversary. I know there are worse things to be sad about, but those coolers look really nice.

Do we need to bring our own device to get the pictures with platinum? So I need some sort of drive for them to download the pictures on too?

' src=

We were on the Wish in September (b2b) We received black lanyards. We are Gold club members. Does anyone know what the black ones were?

' src=

Black lanyards are for Platinum (10+ completed cruises).

Black one is for Platinum member.

OK, so Pearl members get ALL of these gifts? Or the Silver gift + the Pearl gift?

' src=

That picture doesn’t do justice to the lanyards Silver and Platinium looks the same but they are not.

Silver is light Grey Platinium is Dark Grey Pearl is White

You can have a better look here: https://twitter.com/StorybookD/status/1653115479266058242?t=H8j3_bh6L0zilk6zORkI5Q&s=19

Thanks for sharing that. That makes it much easier to see the differences.

' src=

Are the new lanyards permanent or are they only for the 25th cruises?

' src=

So excited for my Wish sailing in 27 days. The 25th merch looks great. Question though…I received my first Silver club gift on my last cruise, despite it being the 25th, do you get the tier stateroom gifts each time you cruise? I assumed once I got the lanyard I would not get another until the next level.

You will receive you level of gifts and lanyard on each cruise.

Did they add any new 25th things at bibbidi bobbidi?

Moscow cruise port

Region Russia Rivers

Local Time 2024-04-30 10:45

Moscow is a Volga River cruise port, Russia's capital and largest city (population over 12,2 million, metro 17 million). Moscow City covers a total area of approx 2610 km 2 (970 mi2). By population, the city is ranked the world's 14th largest. Moscow is one of the Russian Federation's all 3 federal cities - together with St Petersburg and Sevastopol .

Being Russian Federation's capital, Moscow is a major economic, political, scientific and cultural center, as well as Europe's biggest city.

According to Forbes 2013, Moscow has been ranked as the 9th most expensive city in the world by Mercer and has one of the largest urban economies, being ranked as an alpha global city according to Globalization and World Cities Research Network. It is also one of the fastest-growing tourist destinations in the world according to MasterCard Global Destination Cities Index. Moscow is the northernmost and the coldest megacity and metropolis on the Earth. It's home to Ostankino Tower, the tallest free-standing European structure; the Federation Tower, the tallest European skyscraper; and the Moscow International Business Center.

Moscow is situated on Moskva River in the Central Federal District of European Russia, which makes it the most populated inland city in the world. Moscow city is well known for architecture, particularly its historic buildings like Saint Basil's Cathedral. With over 40% of its territory covered by greenery, it's one of the greenest capitals and major cities in Europe and the world. Moscow is the seat of power of the Russian Government, being the site of Moscow Kremlin, a medieval city-fortress that is now the residence of the President of Russia. Moscow Kremlin and Red Square are among the several World Heritage Sites in the city.

Moscow has 2 passenger terminals, North River Terminal (Rechnoy vokzal) and South River Terminal. The regular ship routes and cruises along Moskva and Oka rivers are used mostly for entertainment. North River Terminal (1937-built) is currently the main hub for long-range routes along the river. There are 3 freight ports that serve Moscow.

In late-July 2021 the city announced plans to incorporate a fleet (unspecified number) of fully electric passenger ferries into its public transportation network from summer 2022, the goal being to reduce the dependence on cars.

  • The boats are designed with length ~22 m (72 ft), passenger capacity 42, modern amenities (Wi-Fi, USB charging points, tables for working commuters), spaces for storing scooters and bicycles.
  • Moscow Transport confirmed that two routes (with max daily capacity ~16,000 passengers) have already been mapped out.
  • Passengers will be able to pay via bank cards, the city’s Troika card (smart card for travel by any public transportation) or biometric payment cards. Those with monthly/yearly public transit tickets will use the boats at no extra cost.
  • The new electric ferry service is up to 5 times faster (in comparison to other city public transports) and ~2 times faster than by car.

Moscow cruise terminal

Moscow's cruise terminal is called North River Terminal or River Station  ("Rechnoy Vokzal" / "речной вокзал").

The terminal was opened in 1937 and is one of 2 passenger terminals (the other being South River Terminal) of the city's river transport. North River Terminal is the main hub for long-range (including cruise) shipping routes.

South River Terminal (above photo) was opened in 1985.

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

disney cruise key lanyard

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.
