My family recently went on a 5-night cruise on the Disney Disney Dream, where one of our ports of call was Cozumel, Mexico.

After looking through the list of excursions available during our stay in Cozumel, we decided to choose the all-inclusive Beach Break excursion (CZ15) to experience the beautiful beaches.

Below, you can take a closer look at what is included and our experience.

Cozumel Beach Break Description

So what exactly is the Cozumel Beach Break excursion? Here is the description directly from Disney Cruise Line:

On this adventure you will…
Take an approximately 25-minute ride aboard an air-conditioned motorcoach to Playa Mia Grand Beach and Water Park. Get ready to do as much – or as little – as you’d like at this beautiful beach park. Choose to lounge in a beach chair under an umbrella on the sand by the ocean or by the pool. Note: see restrictions in the section below. Enjoy the park’s many activities such as an aquatic floating sports center, kayaks, water trampolines, aquatic iceberg, paddle boats, floating mats, water bicycles, ping pong tables, volleyball and soccer courts and an entertainment team featuring a kid’s club. Disney Cruise Line uses Playa Mia Beach Resort for their beach break excursion on the island of Cozumel and I’m sure other cruise lines use it as well. It is located about 9 miles from the cruise terminal that Disney uses.

The Disney Cruise Line Navigator app will tell you when and where your meeting point will be on the day of your excursion. The app will also tell you what you will need to bring with you, like your Key to the World Card, photo ID, etc.

Then you will leave as a group and walk through the outdoor shopping area and take a bus ride you to the resort. The total drive time was 20-25 minutes.

When we arrived at the resort, we immediately went to find a beach chair and umbrella. There were resort employees that helped us find a chair and set up an umbrella.

Some employees will take your drink orders (which are included) and deliver them to you. Remember to bring some money to tip these servers, if desired. You may also want some cash to tip the bus and tour operators as well.

Water Sports Equipment

There are kayaks and water tricycles available to use as well. To use these items, check in with an employee at the tent and put on a life vest. You will be directed where to go.

There are a couple of pools at the resort with swim up bars. It was nice to have the option of the pool to swim in as well as the ocean.

Water Slides

There are two large water slides that my kids and husband enjoyed. The lines for these slides never seemed long, which was nice.

Water Playground for Kids

Between the pool and waterslides, there is a water playground area that would be really fun for young kids. There are small slides and splash areas.

Lunch Buffet

Included with the Cozumel Beach Break is a buffet lunch. Some of the items available were fajita meat and vegetables, tortillas, tortilla chips, rice, beans, salsa, and hamburgers. Bottled water and soft drinks are also included.

Return Time

Our tour operator let us know what time be back at the bus for our short ride back to the Cozumel cruise port at the end of the excursion, which was 2:30. I felt that we had just the right amount of time on our excursion.

Cozumel Beach Break Review

My review of this excursion was that it was a great Cozumel excursion for the whole family. I felt that for the price, we got a good value for our money.

The beach activities, water slides, and pool were fun, and it was nice to have chairs and umbrellas to hang out on the beach.

My kids had a great time ordering the included virgin pina coladas and strawberry daiquiri’s were great and the lunch buffet was just ok.

There are other all-inclusive resorts that can be booked through third parties or for direct rates for a beach day pass in Cozumel, but you will have to find your own taxi driver.

I liked the security of booking our Cozumel Port Adventure directly through Disney and not having to worry about making it back to the ship in time.

I would do this excursion again if I ever find myself in Cozumel.

Visiting Cozumel on Disney Cruise Line

A frequent stop for Disney Cruise Line on Western Caribbean itineraries has always been Cozumel, Mexico. Cozumel is a small island off of the coast of Mexico in the Caribbean Sea. It has mild temperatures all year round, making it a great spot to visit on a Caribbean cruise. Cozumel now has several piers which dock cruise ships, so it may help to do a quick check on the internet to see where your ship plans to dock before you leave on your cruise. (I recommend http://www.cozumelinsider.com/CruiseShips ).

Due to the mild temperatures and calm seas, Cozumel is a perfect place for a beach adventure. Disney Cruise Line will usually offer at least one beach excursion through its shore excursions desk. Alternatively, it is just a short (approximately 15 minute) taxi ride to get to one of several beaches near the port. Whether you’re looking for an “all inclusive” beach with wate rsports and lunch included or a spot with a la carte options, Cozumel has you covered. We have found no shortage of pleasant beaches with restrooms, shopping and food all available.

Cozumel1

Authentic Mexican food delivered to us right on the beach!

Along this same vein, Cozumel is known for its snorkeling and SCUBA opportunities. Throughout most of the year, the water on the west side of the island is clear and calm, making it an optimal place to peer around underwater.   Be careful though- water on the east side of the island can be much less friendly to swimmers. The views there can be stunning, but it’s best to limit swimming to the western beaches.

Cozumel2

One of the most popular activities on Cozumel is swimming with dolphins, which can be done within Cozumel’s National Marine Park at Chankanaab Beach Adventure Park. This particular park offers a calm beach, botanical gardens, a small replica Mayan village and museum, and many animal interaction activities including the dolphins. Since this area is so popular, I highly recommend buying your activity tickets in advance and/or through the ship’s shore excursions department.

Another very popular destination for tourists is Tulum. Please keep in mind, a trip to Tulum is a full day affair, involving a ferry ride of approximately one hour in either direction and a good deal of walking once you arrive. Also, the site charges a fee for bringing video cameras to Tulum. The Mayan ruins are a beautiful and educational experience to see though.

Cozumel3

Hair braiding is offered all over the island and is inexpensive

If those excursions seem more strenuous or time consuming than you’re interested in, I highly recommend the shopping in Cozumel. The downtown area is very accessible by taxi, or possibly through walking if you’re docked at a close enough pier.

Although you’re likely to find many of the same shops that are scattered throughout the Caribbean, I’ve found the silver and turquoise jewelry in Cozumel to be a particularly good value and quality. They also have a great variety of textiles (blankets and dresses can be colorful and well priced), pottery (often with handmade designs), and vanilla.   Cozumel is a safe area to walk around and sales are rather low pressure for Mexico, but you can still haggle with shop owners and vendors. The currency is the Mexican Peso, and although most locations will take credit cards, it may be a good idea to exchange some dollars for pesos before you leave home.

Overall, Cozumel is a great stop when traveling on the Disney Cruise Line.

Finding what to do in Cozumel for a day is now easy, a wide set of options to help you plan for your Shore Excursion in Cozumel

Our 4-Night Disney Dream Cruise

We've visited Disney World in Florida more times than I can count. After so many years of driving to Florida and visiting every theme park in Orlando, it was time for a change. Our bags and passports were ready to travel abroad.

We knew we wanted to go on cruise and we knew we wanted it to be on a Disney ship. After years of wonderful Disney experiences we felt loyalty to the brand and comfortable with their level of family entertainment. We began our research online and started laying out our plan. The first questions we answered were "Where and when are we going?". Traveling with my wife and two daughters, we wanted to make sure we had as much available without spending a small fortune. We decided on a four night Bahamian voyage from Cape Canaveral, Florida to the Bahamas. We decided to sail the second week of January to save on Disney's off-season prices. The itinerary included a stop at Nassau, Castaway Cay (Disney's private island in the Bahamas) and a full day at sea.

We drive from New York to Jacksonville on Saturday, Jan. 19th 2013. This 14 hour drive has become a yearly ritual for us, so it was just an ordinary occurrence. We departed Jacksonville at 9:00 am the following morning in order to arrive at Cape Canaveral in time for our 1:30 pm boarding hour. Cape Canaveral is incredibly easy to get to from I-95. We followed the signs to terminal B and before 1:00 pm, we were already dropping off our bags and parking our vehicles.

Disney's terminal at Cape Canaveral offers on-site parking at $ 15 per night rates. Higher rates apply for premium parking. I've read many reviews of families saving about $ 30 by parking off-site at private parking lots or hotels. Although this may seem like a bargain, I suggest parking at the terminal simply for the convenience. The parking lot is directly connected to the terminal via catwalk. This makes disembarking a breeze, too. Once you round up your bags, all you do is walk across the street and get in your car. No need to wait for any further transportation or taxi's.

Check-in at the terminal was incredibly fast and easy. Be sure all occupants of your stateroom are together. You will need to sign some paperwork and take a picture that will be used for identification when boarding or disembarking. The entire check-in process, a few pictures, and waiting for our boarding number to be called took roughly twenty minutes. Once we walked into the gangway, we took some more pictures, then entered the ships atrium.

The Disney Dream's atrium is a huge, rectangular, three-level gathering area adorned with an art-deco glass chandelier, marble steps, a grand piano, and a statue of Admiral Donald Duck. Once onboard, we hardly had a chance to take in the sights before we offered two dining options: option 1 would send us to deck 11 aft for a buffet lunch at Cabanas while option 2 led us down one level to the Enchanted Garden lunch buffet. We chose the Enchanted Garden. The buffet offered many seafood selections like shrimp and crab legs as well as a carving station, cold cuts, vegetables, salad, and grilled lamb chops.

Immediately after lunch, we headed to our stateroom. Our family had chosen a category 4A family verandah room on level 9. Once we entered the room, the first thing we did was figure out the lights. We had to insert a room key at all times in order to turn the power on in the room. Once we figured that out, we explored the balcony. Once we pulled the curtain and opened the sliding glass door, we knew this was the place we'd spend most of cabin time. The balcony added approximately 30 square feet of outdoor real estate. The glass wall offered unobstructed views of ocean while sitting or standing. The balcony had two chairs and a small coffee table that served as our breakfast table every morning.

Once we were acquainted with the room, it was time to head to our station for the mandatory drill. Once the drill was over, we headed to the pool deck for the sail away party. The kids liked the dancing Disney characters and the streamers flying everywhere. Definitely a good time if you have kids. Shortly after the party started, the ship rolled away from the terminal, sailed slowly down the jetty and into open ocean. We watched our first sunset from the deck 12 sports area. Our cruise was finally underway!

That evening we dined at Animator's Palate. The Disney Cruise Line offers a rotational dining assignment which guarantees at least one meal will be served at each of their three main restaurants. Animator's Palate is an homage to the artwork of Disney. It also features giant screens depicting characters from Pixar's Finding Nemo. Our table was directly next to one of the screens. Before we knew it, we were being interviewed by Crush, the sea turtle. The girls really got a laugh when Crush called my glasses "sea goggles". Our evening ended with chocolates and folded towel swan waiting for us in our room. It was a great way to finish off a very busy day.

We woke up the next morning at 8am knowing that room service will soon deliver our morning order of the day. The coffee, donuts, cookies, hot tea, juice and milk were delivered right on time! We poured our drinks, grabbed our snack and headed right for the balcony. Once outside, in the horizon, we could see some pilot boats approaching and land mass growing behind them. We were slowly approaching Nassau. Once we dropped into Prince Georges Wharf, the ship performed a 180 degree turn in the basin and backed into the port. Directly opposite of our ship was the Royal Caribbean Allure of the Seas (an Oasis-class ship – the largest passenger cruise ship in the world). Directly behind this mammoth ship we could see the towers of Atlantis.

Atlantis is located on Paradise Island just north of Nassau. This resort island would be our destination for the day. We booked a tour of the Atlantis Resort through the cruise line. The $ 59 excursion granted us transportation to and from the terminal, a guided tour of the hotel, and full access to the aquarium and the predators lagoon. We gathered on the ship at D-Lounge to get our wrist bands, hand in our release forms and wait to be escorted to the buses. Once 11am roled around, our excursion group disembarked the ship and walked about 5 minutes to the bus. The bus, which contained 20 passengers, was perfectly clean, air-conditioned, and proper working order. The bus driver also serves as our tour guide of downtown Nassau. The drive took us through the government district as well as famous hotels and landmarks.

Once we reached Atlantis, we were greeted by our hotel tour guide. He first walked us through the stores and fashion boutiques in the hotels lobby. It's very reminiscent of a Las Vegas-style hotel. We then walked across the hotel casino and main lobby. The tour then proceeded to the underground ruins area called "The Dig". It's suppose to mimic an archeological dig of Atlantis' ruins. The main attraction here is the giant aquarium filled with tropical fish and huge manta rays. Afterwards we toured the main pool grounds of the resort which offered great views of the famous hotel towers. A bit more walking led us to the Predators Lagoon. Here you will walk through an underwater tube surrounded by sand sharks, sting rays, barracuda, and colorful tropical fish. Once the tour ended, we were free to explore any of the grounds we had previously visited including the casino. Around 4pm, we boarded our bus and headed back to downtown Nassau.

Downtown Nassau is full of souvenir shops, retail, and jewelry stores catering to the cruising tourists. The area is very popular and can seem very crowded at times. Despite the crowd, we always felt safe walking around and wish we had more time to explore the area. We did manage to stop by the local Tortuga Rum store for some excellent rum cake!

Once we headed back to the terminal, we walked directly to the immigration office for a passport stamp. The attendant stamped all our passports in no time and with no questions asked. Afterwards, we went through the security check-in and boarded the ship.

Our second evening featured a dinner at the Enchanted Garden. The a la carte menu featured seafood options but also chicken and pork entree's. If you're a picky eater you can always order from the kids menu which includes more familiar selections such as burgers, hot dogs, pizza, pasta, and chicken fingers. Every meal also includes an appetizer and dessert. Our evening ended once again with chocolates and a folded towel puppy wishing us a good night.

The third day started with a knock on our door as room service was being delivered Our morning coffee and tea led us once again to the balcony and beautiful view of Castaway Cay! The parasailing and glass-bottom boats were sailing by as we walked out. We could also see the workers on the shore prepping the jet-ski and boat rental areas. The line of cabanas and colored buildings served as a backdrop to the sparkling blue waters of the Cay. We only had one thing in mind: let's hit the beach!

Once we left the ship we were greeted by Lilo and Stitch posing for pictures. We also took some pictures of the Dream before boarding the tram car to the beach. Once we reached the beach we picked up three floating tubes, changed into our bathing suits, and hit the water. The beach was gorgeous and offered picture-perfect views of the Disney Dream. This was mid-January so the water was about 70 degrees. It was not ideal swimming temperatures but the sun was hot enough to keep us warm.

Around 1pm we decided to eat at the nearby restaurant, Cookies II, an outdoor grill-style eatery. Cookies II served up burgers, hot dogs, ribs, chicken, as well as a variety of salads and sides. Endless drinks and an ice cream are also available. Dining at these restaurants is included in the price of the cruise so no extra money is required on the island. If you wish to rent any beach equipment once there, you simply swipe your room key and the charge will be added to your room.

After lunch, we decided this was perfect time to head back to the ship and hit the Aqua-Duck ride. We boarded in a flash and headed straight to deck 12. There was a very short waiting line for the ride, much shorter than we had seen previously. We rode the Aqua-Duck several times before finally heading back to our stateroom. When we did arrive at our room we had pirate bandana's waiting for us on our bed. It was pirate night!

Our third dinner was at the Royal Palace. It was also pirate night on the Disney Dream. The entire staff is dressed in the pirate garb and a surprisingly large amount of guests wore full pirate costumes! The menu also featured a pirate theme with selections such as Jolly Roger's salad, and Jack Sparrow braised short ribs. The evenings celebrations also included the "Pirates IN the Caribbean" live-action show followed by the "Buccaneer's Blast" fireworks! At the time, the Disney Dream was the only vessel featuring fireworks at sea. They were a real treat! We we retreated to our stateroom we were greeted by a folded towel monkey hanging from the ceiling and a handy of chocolates spread out on the bed.

Our fourth day was a full day at sea. With no set plans in mind, we knew this would be our only chance to sleep in late. We also knew this would be our only chance to explore the ship. We had our room service delivered at 9am this morning. We spent a good amount of time just relaxing and enjoying the view from our verandah. We then headed out on our ship exploration campaign. Our first stop on the ship was the outdoor promenade on level 4. After walking around the promenade, we headed indoors to the shutters photo studio. After a quick review of the family pictures, we decided to buy the DVD package which includes every printed 8×10 along with a digital copy for future printings.

We then headed to level 3 forward to visit the retail stores. Here we picked up all our souvenirs including Disney Cruise sweatshirts, shot glasses, and resin models of the ship. We then decided to walk the three levels of the atrium where we encountered a photo-op with none other than Captain Mickey Mouse himself! Immediately afterwards, we directed to the Walt Disney Theater to see the musical show "Believe". "Believe" is a tale of father who's so busy with his work to realize the real important things in life are not things, it's people. The show is must-see for all families and I highly recommend it.

Further exploration of the ship took us around the multiple lounges and clubs in decks 4 and 5. We then headed to deck 11 aft for lunch at Cabanas buffet. After lunch we trekked across the 11th and 12th decks exploring the pool areas, sunbathing lounges and sports complex. Seeing all the fun had us rushing back to our staterooms and changing into our bathing suits for a few more rides on Aqua-Duck. My wife also had time to take in a few rounds of Bingo while we spent our time outdoors.

Our last dinner on the Disney Dream was once again at the Royal Palace. The menu featured a French theme with appetizers like French Onion soup, and crème brulee desserts. Entrees included beef tenderloin, baked salmon, organic chicken breast, and others. Our final evening also featured a folded towel rabbit, some more chocolates and a customer satisfaction survey. They'll also give you a brochure for booking future sailings which includes an onboard discount of 10%. After dinner, we packed our bags and placed them outside our door for pick-up. It was our final night on the Disney Dream and our final view of the starry sky from our balcony. Our Dream vacation was coming to an end and much sooner than we'd like.

Our final morning on the Disney Dream offered a sit-down breakfast at the Royal Palace. It was the final chance to exchange pleasantries and well-wishes with our dining staff. Our waiters, which had been with us through the entire voyage, were cordial and incredibly attentive. For those four evenings and final morning, they were part of the family. It's all part of the Disney charm that keeps everyone exclaiming how wonderful Disney destinations can be.

After our breakfast, it was time to disembark. It was bitter-sweet to step off the Dream and back to the cool Florida winter weather. We rounded up our bags, walked to the parking deck, and hit the road to New York once more: an experience we hope to repeat soon!

Disney Cruise Excursion CZ82A

We booked this excursion through Disney Cruise. We got off Disney Fantasy and within a 1000 yards was our Catamaran "Huge Return". Captain Jorge and Marco, our guide were fabulous. The food was awesome. Drinks were great. Marco's interaction with our sons was so awesome. The snorkeling, fishing, beach, awesome. This by far was one of our top cruise excursions and was worth every penny. Thank you Marco, Captain Jorge and the other mate for a memorable trip.

Dear Rudy We are very happy that your trip has been memorable. We take care of every detail to make it perfect. Thanks for your recommendation! We wait for you soon on the most beautiful mexican Caribbean island. #Happysailing

We had a wonderful time on this trip! The views were incredible, the snorkeling was top notch, and the guys were so sweet. There were only five of us booked so we felt super exclusive. We started the day with a 30 minute boat ride, the snorkeled and saw all these gorgeous fish, including an eagle ray and several barracuda! The guides were so awesome and knowledgeable. Please wear a sun shirt instead of sunscreen, the sunscreen has affected the reef :( ! After we snorkeled, they took us to a small beach where we just hung out and swam and drank (free beer and drinks all day fyi), and then we had lunch and sailed back to the marina. It was an awesome 4 hours and I would definitely do it again!! Support these guys, they are so nice and fun!!

Dear Kimberley Thanks for your review and as cozumelenians...THANKS for thinking about our reefs, they are fragile and we should all take care of them. Hope to see you soon! #happysailing

We were greeted at the harbour by a member of the team, who took us onto the boat and made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. Lucky for us there were only three other travellers joining us on the trip so we had plenty of space and could sit wherever we wanted. We went snorkelling with one of the members of the crew for about half an hour and saw HEAPS of fish, they were literally swimming right up past our faces. We saw a wide variety of tropical fish and also stingrays and barracuda. After snorkelling we were given some fruit to eat while we travelled to a beautiful beach. While swimming on the beach the team continued to bring us drinks out into the water. After a very refreshing swim we had lunch on the boat, which was delicious. Thank you Manuel, Pancho, David and Jhony for a great day.

Dear Kristy We are very happy that your trip has been memorable. We wait for you soon on the most beautiful Mexican Caribbean island. #Happysailing

We enjoyed everything about this cruise except the directions that sent us to the wrong entrance of the port and that our request for Sol beer was not met. Otherwise it was a wonderful day with a great crew who made sure we had a fun time and always had an eye on us to ensure our safety.

Six of us chose this excursion when we visited Cozumel on a cruise. The boat was beautiful, clean and well maintained. There were six others who booked also so it was a small size group. The crew was pleasant, fun, respectful. The drinks flowed immediately and constantly. We were served sodas, plenty of water, margaritas, rum punch, beer. The lunch was delicious. It was chips and freshly made guacamole, delicious ceviche, and tuna salad. We all enjoyed it. The safety and care of the passengers were always on forefront with the crew. The snorkeling was so fun. We even saw a shark! I definitely would recommend this crew and boat to any of my friends and family.

Dear Susanne We are very happy that your trip has been memorable. We take care of every detail to make it perfect. Thanks for your recommendation! We wait for you soon on the most beautiful mexican Caribbean island. #Happysailing

I booked this online with Valeria. Great experience! We rented the smaller catamaran since we only had 8 people. They said this one would hold 14 & the larger one was for 15 or more. I think it might've been a little crowded if we would've had more than 8 since we all liked sitting on the front of the boat. The crew, Alex, Fernadino & Jorge were awesome! They had Corona & Bud Light (since that's what most of us drink). They took us to a shallow area where we could stand in the water & have a few drinks & snorkel if we wanted to. There was a stingray circling close to us & we saw several fish. Lunch of ceviche, guacamole & tuna was excellent! The water is absolutely beautiful! Even if you think this is a little expensive it is definitely worth it! My husband said it is the best shore excursion we've ever taken & I agree!

Port Adventure Review: Cozumel’s Fury Catamarans Sail, Snorkel & Beach Party (CZ12)

The Fury Catamarans Sail, Snorkel & Beach Party is a Disney Cruise Line Port Adventure offered in Cozumel, Mexico. This particular excursion has been offered for years and we decided to check it out during our Marvel Day at Sea cruise in March . DCL promotes the excursion as a 3-in-1 adventure offering guests the opportunity to snorkel, play at an aqua park, and soak up the sun during a stop at Fury’s private beach all while sailing aboard a 65-foot catamaran.

The excursion begins as all Disney Port Adventures do, with a designated meeting spot onboard the cruise ship.

Fury Catamaran WDT Meeting Point

Just short of the pier’s security gate, one of Fury’s 65-foot catamarans was awaiting our arrival. Although we did not leave the pier, we were screened by local authorities with K9s before boarding the catamaran. I really appreciate when tours such as these pick guests up at the dock versus first transporting you via van or bus to another dock eliminated extra travel time. Additionally, you do not need to run through the gauntlet of vendors in the Punta Lagosta Mall.

Fury Catamaran

Fury had a photographer on the catamaran taking group photos upon arrival, more on this later. I will answer the most important question, the Fury catamaran does have restrooms. You can choose to sit on the upper decks or in the shaded lounge area with bench seating near the bar.

Fury Catamaran Disney Magic Sanders Family

Once everyone was onboard, we were given the safety talk and we were on our way. We sailed about 20-minutes southwest along the coast just past the Cozumel Cruise Terminal / Puerto Maya to a snorkeling site. The crew gave everyone the choice to jump in the water or use a staircase that is lowered into the water.

Snorkels, masks, fins and the required snorkel vest are provided on this excursion, but you are welcome to use your own equipment. If you have your own snorkeling vest, it is a good idea to write your name on it before to avoid any confusion at the end when turning in gear. Unlike, masks, fins, and snorkels, the vests all tend to look similar to the standard issue florescent yellow. I only mention this because Isabelle has a youth snorkeling vest and we’ve had issues in the past with crews thinking we were trying to keep it – now I see there is a larger selection of vest colors available.

We were asked to stay together in a group and to follow the in-water guide snorkeling with the current. The catamaran occasionally adjusted its position to allow for any guests to board whenever they desired.

At first, I was worried the water would be a too cold for my liking in mid-March, but it wasn’t all that bad. We were given 40-minutes of snorkeling time based on when the first snorkeler hit the water.

Fury Catamaran Snorkeling

By my clock, we were called back after 30 minutes which given the forgettable snorkeling area was more than enough time to see a few fish.

If you are a seasoned snorkeler looking for some great sights, skip this. It is not that exciting in terms of reef snorkeling. There were some coral formations, but nothing worth writing home about.

Once everyone was back on the catamaran, we headed to Fury’s private beach  which was roughly 20-minutes further southwest from the snorkeling spot.

Fury Catamaran Snorkel To Beach

During our time back onboard sailing to the beach, we were offered complimentary margaritas, beer, soda, and water.

Fury Catamaran Margaritas

As you arrive at Fury’s private beach, you can see the Aqua Park. The inflatables include slides, trampolines, and an obstacle course. This portion of the excursion is 90-minutes.

Fury Catamaran Aqua Park

I’m going to get right to the point, the Aqua Park was a blast. However, I would like to point out, the water is deep and you should be on guard at all times. Emily took a good kick to the back on the obstacle course from a kid. Additionally, paranoia set in when I saw Isabelle attempting to climb up on one of the floats that were wobbling in the surf nearly coming down on top of her as it rocked back and forth. These floats are heavy and not something you’d want hitting you on the head. I’m not normally a worry wort, but this had me on edge. I am in no way being negative, I’m just being an overprotective dad. Like I said, it was a blast and I’d love to return or visit a similar aqua park in the future.

One thing the Aqua Park does is wear you out. It takes a lot of effort and coordination to stand up on the rafts. Thankfully, after snorkeling and playing in the water, the private beach awaits.

There is a beach shop and a few vendors, but this is a private beach so they are not going to hassle you. The bathrooms, floating sun mats, hammocks, volleyball, kayaks, stand up paddle boards, beach chairs are included in the excursion price. No need to pay extra for those loungers like on some beach excursions. Seriously, the beach exclusive to Fury’s guests and mostly all-inclusive. It is about as close to a Castaway Cay experience as you could get in Cozumel.

Fury continues to offer free margaritas, beer, soda, and water on the beach and food is available to purchase. A hot dog lunch was $8 and a hamburger with sides was $10. We opted to skip the American fare in hopes of getting some tacos near the port.

Around 12:30, we returned the catamaran to head back to the Punta Lagosta Pier. It is important to remember the number on the catamaran as there are multiple catamarans on the beach and they are all identical. I am almost certain, Emily and Isabelle were going to let me get on the wrong catamaran.

Fury Catamaran Sun

On the way back we were presented with the photos taken during embarkation for a nominal fee; it was $12.

Fury Catamaran Cozumel Family Photo

By the time we returned to the Punta Lagosta Pier, it was closing in on 1:30 PM, and we were starving. As much as we wanted to head back out for lunch, we decided to get lunch on the pool deck and spend the afternoon poolside.

All in all, the Fury Catamaran Sail Snorkel and Beach Party (CZ12)  was an enjoyable experience, but due to the lackluster snorkeling site, I doubt I’d book this again. Snorkeling over a sandy bottom with a few coral formations sprinkled around is not what I’d consider the site full of “vast coral formations” or an “incredible reef to enjoy amazing marine life and coral formations”. Who knows, we were not taken to the same spot as the people writing Disney’s port adventure description or the blurb on Fury’s website. Still, overall, this was a fun port adventure once I take out my snobbish attitude about snorkeling. At the time of our tour, DCL charged $68.00 (ages 10 and up) and $40.00 (ages 5 to 9) which is only $3 and $5.50 more per age group than if you were staying in Cozumel and booking directly. Fury does not allow cruise guests to book directly and even if you did book directly, you’d never be back by the all aboard time. Needless to say, this DCL port adventure is fairly priced.

Done this excursion as well, it was fun and decently priced. Drinks were good and plentiful. I agree the snorkeling site was a bit of a let down. Especially for being in Cozumel!

hello! I am looking into booking this excursion for an upcoming cruise on the Disney Magic in March 2019 to Cozumel. I was wondering what time you had to meet up on the ship, and when the excursion approximately ended? Thanks!

' src=

We had to meet in the Walt Disney Theatre somewhere around 8AM. I believe we were delayed for some reason so we didn’t actually leave hit the pier until 8:30 AM. We were back on the pier at 1:30 PM.

Excursion Review – Deluxe Private Yachts, Cozumel

April 10, 2022 by Disney Cruise Mom Leave a Comment

The following review was written by Rachel, who sailed with her family on the Disney Magic in March 2022 on a Marvel Day at Sea sailing that stopped in Cozumel.  You can read her full trip report here .

When our snorkeling port adventure to El Cielo in Cozumel was cancelled a couple of weeks before we sailed (they said it was no longer available), I set out searching for a new port adventure for our group of 8 – 4 kids and 4 adults.  I still wanted to see if we could snorkel and visit the sand bar near El Cielo (which means heaven in Spanish) so I started researching other group tours. In the process, I came across Deluxe Private Yachts  that operates out of Cozumel very close to the cruise dock. And in the end, I am SO glad we chose a private tour vs a group tour – as you will see, the personalized service and time spent at each location was designed just for us – and it was amazing.

I found Deluxe Private Yachts through Trip Advisor. I know reviews can be hit or miss there, but I have found several gems (restaurants, tours, etc.) that way and this proved to be one of those. They have very good reviews. Then I had to contact the company to make sure they could accommodate the times we needed since we were only in Cozumel for one day on a cruise. Obviously we have limited time ashore. I received an email back promptly saying they could absolutely accommodate our needs. They were very easy to communicate and work with. I specifically said we wanted to snorkel and we wanted to visit El Cielo. I paid a deposit and we were confirmed.

The day we arrived in Cozumel, we found the taxis near the port and gave the name of the marina that was in our confirmation email (Fonatur Marina) and our taxi driver knew exactly where to go. Because the Disney Magic docked at the downtown port, our drive was about 10-15 minutes (there was some moderate traffic).

When we arrived at the marina, we paid the rest of our balance (in cash – there was a fee to use a card) and were immediately walked over to our boat and introduced to our 2-man crew. One would be our guide and the other would drive the boat.

They held out a bucket for all of our shoes before we boarded and we got them back when we arrived back at the marina that afternoon. This is just one of the ways they care for the boat and it showed. It was in brand new condition and fit our group of 8 perfectly with plenty of room.

Upon boarding the boat, they already had a beautiful fruit tray with a spicy dip for us and offered us water. The guide gave us a brief run-down of what to expect – what stops we would be making – and then we set out.

I had chosen their 28’ Sea Ray, which has a max passenger load of 8 people (plus 2 crew). It had shade (a must) and a bathroom (unexpected, but nice!).

We motored for about 30 minutes along the shore of Cozumel before arriving at our first snorkel stop. They usually like to take their tours to another location but our guide told us that the water was too choppy there on this particular day. So, we were snorkeling at a slightly deeper reef, but the water was calmer.

We had all brought our full-face snorkel masks, which we prefer. But the boat comes with full snorkel gear (regular-type masks) for everyone. We did use their fins. The guide gave us a couple of rules and what to expect at this location. One by one, we dove in.

In this location (which was about 20 feet deep) there were fish ALL around us near the surface as well as all around the coral on the ocean floor.

Our guide took my GoPro from me and took photos of our group snorkeling. I love this because it freed me up to just enjoy myself and also because I’m hardly ever in any photos! He was completely familiar with all the GoPro settings and got some great shots for us. He also dove down to get some footage and photos of a HUGE Eagle Ray that was on the floor of the ocean.

After about 15 minutes in this spot, he called us to gather around and the driver brought the boat back over for us to climb aboard. Onto the next snorkel location!

This location was very shallow with a soft, sandy bottom…and starfish! Not just one or two – LOTS of starfish. It was so cool to see them stretching out into the distance on the ocean floor. Our guide was careful to tell us not to touch them, but we could dive down and get a closer look.

Even though the starfish were really the only thing (besides a few stray fish!) in this area, we all thought it was so cool to see them that close and as many as there were out there. From this location, we boarded the boat and again but only motored for about 5 minutes closer to shore before anchoring in the soft, shallow sandy area – away from all the starfish.

We all got out into the water, which was only about 4 feet deep – perfect for wading or playing. The crew got out a ball for our boys to play with and they set about tidying up the boat and making us custom drinks. The adults had mojitos, margaritas, and pina coladas – hand mixed. The kids were too busy to drink anything at this point, but they were offered non-alcoholic drinks as well. And bottled water was always available.

We all had the best time at this spot, which is part of El Cielo. The water is absolutely stunning (the photos do not do it justice) and the swimming can’t be beat here due to the shallow water and soft sand. Kids and adults alike had a blast!

While we were enjoying ourselves in the water, the crew was busy preparing our lunch on board. They made fresh guacamole (excellent), ceviche, chips and dips, and tuna. It was all delicious. They will accommodate any dietary needs if you let them know ahead of time. We didn’t have any special needs, but I had collected some snacks (popcorn, cereal boxes, and M&Ms) that the concierge team put together for me that morning to take with us. I was unsure how the kids would like the guac, ceviche, etc. However, while they did tear into the snacks I brought (and we all ate the entire bag of M&Ms), the kids did actually try and enjoy many of the foods the crew prepared.

When we had all devoured almost all of that spread, we got back in the water. Our guide told us we had about one more hour before we’d have to head back to the marina. Our tour was almost 5 hours from about 10am – 3pm. We never felt rushed and they gave us ample time at this beautiful location. But during our last hour there we witnessed how lucky we were to have chosen our private tour. There was a huge catamaran with about 50 people on board that pulled up beside us. They let everyone off – for only 15 minutes! Then they loaded up and took off again. That was barely time enough to get photos and enjoy the water.

And here I’d like to mention again how helpful the crew were with taking our photos. They were always willing to take any photos for us and again – this was much appreciated!

On our way back to the marina, we were all talking about how we’d do this excursion again in a heartbeat. Everything about it was wonderful, tailored for us, and just perfect. And the service didn’t stop when we got ashore. There was a fairly long line of other groups our size waiting for taxis. And not many taxis were entering the marina at this time on their own. So the owner of Deluxe Private Boats called us a taxi so we wouldn’t have to wait in the hot sun. Every one of the crew and staff was delightful, so helpful and made for the most wonderful day!
