Dad Grass x Free & Easy Corduroy Don’t Trip Hat

Description

Batch #002. New for Spring 2021! Limited edition corduroy version of Free & Easy’s iconic ‘Don’t Trip’ hat with a Dad Grass embroidery on the side. Unstructured flat brim with an adjustable strapback and brass closure, just like those easy fitting hats from back in the day.

Dad Grass x Free & Easy Batch #002

This limited edition hat is part of the second collaboration between two of the West Coast’s most laid-back brands: Dad Grass and Free & Easy.

This time around, we're mixing it up with our ‘best buds’ for a small batch of choice nugs to commemorate the release of our new Dad Grass Flower .

Y’all seemed to dig the technicolor 80s SoCal trip we took on our  first collaboration  so we decided to keep it going with a blacked-out take on everyone’s favorite long sleeve along with this corduroy version of Free & Easy’s classic “Don’t Trip” Hat.

Famous for their Don’t Trip hat (donned by LeBron and Mac Miller ) and their perfectly washed-down tees, Free & Easy is a nod to their parents' generation of surfers who rode the waves of California’s golden era.

We at Dad Grass share this same fondness for decades past, before things got so fancy and complicated. Remember when grass was just grass and you could smoke a whole joint without freaking out? That’s why we started rolling up our own hemp  joints , to revive the mellow sensibility of the casual smoke.  And, from time to time, we make special collections of merch and apparel to pay tribute to the timeless staples of dad style.

Dad Grass just mellows you out, minus any and all paranoia.

don't trip gorra

Introduction

The phrase “Don’t Trip” is one of those sayings that has become so commonplace in our everyday language that it can be hard to know exactly what it means. At its most basic level, “Don’t Trip” is an expression used to encourage someone not to make a mistake or slip up. But this phrase has come to mean much more than just avoiding a physical stumble. In this article, we will explore the various meanings of “Don’t Trip” and how it can be used as a tool for staying positive and managing stress.

Exploring the Meaning Behind “Don’t Trip”

To understand the full scope of the phrase “Don’t Trip”, it’s important to first look at the literal meaning of the words. On a basic level, “Don’t Trip” can be interpreted as a warning against making a physical mistake or misstep. For example, if you’re walking down the street and about to step off a curb, someone might yell out “Don’t Trip!” to remind you to watch where you’re going and avoid tripping over something.

However, over time, “Don’t Trip” has come to take on a much broader meaning. It has become a way of saying “keep calm” or “don’t worry” in any situation, regardless of whether there is an actual physical danger of tripping or not. For example, if someone is feeling anxious about a test or a job interview, someone might tell them “Don’t Trip” as a way of encouraging them to stay calm and not let their nerves get the best of them.

Why “Don’t Trip” is the Perfect Mantra for Staying Positive

Staying positive is one of the keys to a happy and successful life. Research shows that having a positive attitude can lead to better physical and mental health, increased productivity, and improved relationships with others. So how does “Don’t Trip” fit into all of this?

When things don’t go according to plan or when life throws us a curveball, it’s easy to get discouraged and start thinking negatively. But “Don’t Trip” can be a powerful reminder to stay positive and keep moving forward despite any setbacks. The phrase serves as a reminder that no matter what happens, everything will be okay in the end. This can help to put things into perspective and give us the motivation to keep going.

A Closer Look at the Origins of the Phrase “Don’t Trip”

The phrase “Don’t Trip” originated in hip-hop culture in the late 1980s and early 1990s. At the time, it was primarily used as an expression of encouragement and camaraderie among friends. Over time, however, the phrase has evolved to encompass a wider range of meanings, from simply avoiding a physical mistake to dealing with any type of difficulty or challenge.

Today, “Don’t Trip” is used in a variety of contexts, both in speech and in writing. It has become a popular catchphrase among young people and is often used as a hashtag on social media platforms such as Instagram and Twitter.

The Power of “Don’t Trip”: How it Can Change Your Life

The phrase “Don’t Trip” is more than just a catchy phrase; it can actually have a profound effect on your life. Studies have shown that positive affirmations, such as “Don’t Trip”, can help to improve self-esteem, reduce stress levels, and increase feelings of happiness and well-being.

For example, if you’re feeling overwhelmed by a stressful situation, repeating “Don’t Trip” to yourself can help to provide some much-needed perspective and remind you that everything will be okay in the end. Similarly, if you’re feeling down or discouraged, “Don’t Trip” can be a reminder to stay positive and focus on the good things in life.

What Does “Don’t Trip” Really Mean?

It’s clear that “Don’t Trip” has a much deeper meaning than just avoiding a physical misstep. Ultimately, the phrase is about having faith in yourself and your ability to overcome any obstacle. It’s about staying positive and trusting that no matter what happens, you will always find a way to move forward.

At its core, “Don’t Trip” is about believing in yourself and having the courage to keep going even when things don’t go according to plan. It’s about knowing that no matter what happens, you have the strength to get through it and come out stronger on the other side.

The Psychology Behind “Don’t Trip” and Its Impact on Mental Health

The psychological benefits of “Don’t Trip” are undeniable. Studies have shown that positive affirmations such as “Don’t Trip” can help to reduce stress levels, improve self-esteem, and boost overall mental health. This is because they provide a sense of control and optimism, which can help to combat anxiety, depression, and other negative emotions.

Positive affirmations also serve as a reminder to stay focused on the present moment rather than worrying about the future. They can help to reframe difficult situations in a more positive light, allowing you to gain a new perspective and see things from a different angle.

How to Use “Don’t Trip” as a Tool for Coping with Stressful Situations

In order to get the most out of “Don’t Trip”, it’s important to find ways to incorporate it into your daily life. Here are a few practical tips for using “Don’t Trip” as a tool for managing stress:

  • Whenever you’re feeling overwhelmed or anxious, take a few deep breaths and repeat “Don’t Trip” to yourself.
  • Write “Don’t Trip” on sticky notes and place them around your house or office as reminders to stay positive.
  • When faced with a difficult decision or situation, take a step back and remind yourself “Don’t Trip” before making a decision.
  • Whenever you’re feeling down or discouraged, take a few moments to reflect on all the things you have to be thankful for and remember “Don’t Trip”.

By taking the time to incorporate “Don’t Trip” into your daily life, you can use it as a powerful tool for managing stress and staying positive.

The phrase “Don’t Trip” has become a popular catchphrase in today’s culture, but it has much deeper meaning than just avoiding a physical misstep. It is a reminder to stay positive and trust in yourself, no matter what life throws at you. From reducing stress levels to improving mental health, “Don’t Trip” can be a powerful tool for managing difficult situations and staying focused on the present moment.

So the next time you’re feeling overwhelmed or discouraged, remember “Don’t Trip”. It can be a powerful reminder to stay positive and trust that everything will be okay in the end.

I visit Universal Orlando several times a year. Here are my top 10 tips for first-timers.

don't trip gorra

I’ll never forget walking out of Universal Islands of Adventure in 2022, drenched from head to toe after riding Popeye & Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barge .

It was my first trip back to Universal Orlando Resort in years, and I learned some things the hard way, which I gladly shared with fellow travelers, hoping that they’d avoid my mistakes .

Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to visit the Florida resort several times a year. And while I stand by my earlier tips, I’ve learned a few others.

Here are my top tips for first-timers visiting Universal Orlando.

1.  Stay on property

From RV parks to vacation rentals, there’s no shortage of places to stay in Central Florida, but it can pay to stay on property when visiting Universal Orlando. Not only are prices comparable to off-property hotels with Endless Summer Surfside and Dockside starting at $99 a night, but all of Universal’s resort hotels offer 30 minutes of early entry to select parks, which vary depending on time of year.

They also provide free resort transportation, so you can get back to your room fairly quickly after a long park day or for a midday break. That free transportation can be clutch in the mornings, particularly at pricier Loews Sapphire Falls , Loews Royal Pacific , Loews Portofino Bay , and Hard Rock Hotel , which offer water taxis that drop you off closer to the parks than you can get arriving by car or bus. Cabana Bay Beach Resort and Aventura Hotel guests can walk over to Sapphire Falls for water taxis, but the extra time and steps added may make it not worth skipping the resort shuttle bus.

Walking paths are also available to the parks from every resort hotel except the Endless Summer ones. Cabana Bay guests also have a dedicated walking path to Universal’s Volcano Bay water park.

Guests staying at Royal Pacific, Portofino Bay and Hard Rock also get free Universal Express Passes , which dramatically cut waits for most rides and normally start at $79.99 per person. Free package delivery is also available to all resort hotels, if guests don’t want to lug park purchases around all day.

Epic Universe details revealed: What's coming to Universal Orlando next year

2. Buy a popcorn bucket

Snacking at the parks can get expensive. Guests are welcome to bring their own snacks, but there’s one crowd-pleaser that won’t break the bank.

A plain popcorn bucket costs a little over $12, and you can keep getting refills throughout your trip. Refills cost around $2 each, making popcorn among the cheapest, most shareable snacks on property. On our last trip, my family and I got multiple refills for the price of one pretzel with cheese dip.

3.  Bring a light, refillable water bottle

Staying hydrated is always important, particularly on hot park days.

You can fill water bottles with free ice-cold water at any of the many Coca-Cola Freestyle machines across the property. Cups of ice water are also available for free anywhere dispensed soft drinks are sold.

Leave big double-walled stainless steel tumblers at home. Not only will they feel heavy, carrying them around all the day, but if they aren’t leak-proof, they’ll make a mess when you tip them on their sides to fit in lockers for thrill rides.

4. Bring a medium-sized bag to carry your stuff

Numerous attractions, from Jurassic World VelociCoaster to Men in Black Alien Attack , require guests to store loose articles in lockers provided for the duration of the ride.

I previously recommended keeping most of your things together to avoid having to empty every pocket each time. That’s still true, but I want to add a caveat on size.

The free lockers aren’t very big. They can fit a Loungefly-style mini backpack or empty popcorn bucket, if you squish them down, but they’re not large enough for packed full-size backpacks. Keep that in mind unless you want to pay for larger lockers.

5. Bring ponchos

Ponchos don’t take a lot of space and can save you from getting soaked like me on Popeye & Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barge, Dudley Do-Right’s Rip Saw Falls , and Jurassic Park River Adventure .

Even if you skip water rides, ponchos are good to keep on hand for rainy park days.

6. Use single-rider lines

Many attractions have a single-rider lane. If you’re traveling alone or don’t mind your party being split up, you can save time using the single-rider lane, if it’s open. They’re not always offered.

It doesn’t guarantee a short wait, but it’s usually shorter. On our latest trip, my middle schooler still waited at least 45 minutes for The Incredible Hulk Coaster and an hour for Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit . That was about as long as the regular standby wait for Hulk but shorter than the standby wait for Rip Ride Rockit.

The following attractions have single-rider lanes, though availability varies.

Universal Studios Florida

  • E.T. Adventure
  • Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts
  • Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit
  • Men in Black Alien Attack
  • Revenge of the Mummy
  • The Simpsons Ride
  • Transformers: The Ride-3D

Universal Islands of Adventure

  • Doctor Doom's Fearfall
  • Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls
  • Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure
  • Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey
  • Jurassic Park River Adventure
  • Jurassic World VelociCoaster
  • The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man
  • The Incredible Hulk Coaster

7. Use child swap

If someone in your party doesn’t meet ride requirements for an attraction or simply wants to sit it out, you can ask for a child swap. It’s particularly helpful for families with young children because it allows parents and caregivers to take turns riding the ride and staying with whoever is sitting it out.

On our most recent trip, my youngest didn’t want to ride Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure , so we all waited in line together, but then she and I peeled off to a designated waiting room while my middle schooler and mother-in-law went on the ride. When they were done, my mother-in-law stayed with my youngest while I went on the ride. My middle schooler lucked out, getting to ride it twice.

Not all attractions have waiting rooms, but they all offer swaps. Just let team members know you need one.

8. Take breaks

Theme parks can be exhausting. Not only are you on your feet all day, but they can be loud, crowded and overstimulating.

When possible, I like to plan for at least one sit-down meal in the day. This way, I can take my time and recuperate in air conditioning away from crowds. I’ll typically splurge on one table-service meal, but there are several medium-priced, quick-service restaurants across both theme parks where you can grab a lighter snack and relax.

Really, any cool spot where you can sit down works. Knockturn Alley in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Florida is always refreshing, though dark. Jurassic Park Discovery Center in Islands of Adventure is a great place for kids to explore while adults unwind.

9.  Watch the shows

Rides get a lot of the love, but Universal Orlando’s live entertainment is top tier. You can find showtimes on the free resort app or simply stop to watch performances you stumble across while roaming the parks.

The only year-round shows with dedicated seating are at Universal Studios Florida: Animal Actors On Location! , The Bourne Stuntacular , and Universal Orlando’s Horror Make-Up Show, which is more funny than scary.

10. Let little ones stretch their legs

There are several play areas across both theme parks for little ones to burn off energy.

This summer, a new DreamWorks Land will open at Universal Studios Florida with a “Kung Fu Panda”-themed play area.

At Islands of Adventure, kids can explore Camp Jurassic in Jurassic Park, If I Ran a Zoo in Seuss Landing, and Me Ship, The Olive in Toon Lagoon. There are also splash pads and water features across Toon Lagoon; just make sure to either bring swimsuits or backup clothes for those.

Bonus: Don’t sleep on Volcano Bay

You’ll definitely want to pack swimsuits if you’re heading to Volcano Bay, which regularly ranks among the best water parks in the country and adds a completely different experience to vacations.

It’s themed like a tropical paradise, with plenty of trees and an iconic volcano that houses multiple water slides. The water park can get crowded, but you never spend too much time standing in line because every guest gets a Tapu Tapu wearable bracelet that lets them join one virtual queue at a time.

Single-day tickets start at $80, which is considerably less than the $119 starting price for guests age 10 and up at Universal Studios Florida or Islands of Adventure, but still not cheap. However, if you’re already planning to buy multi-day tickets for both theme parks, tacking on Volcano Bay is not much more.

My Girlfriend Has a Special Request for My Multimillionaire Uncle. It’s Making Me Really Uncomfortable.

I’m tempted to cancel everything..

Pay Dirt is Slate’s money advice column.  Have a question?  Send it to Athena and Kristin here .  (It’s anonymous!)

Dear Pay Dirt,

I grew up with my mother in pretty modest means while my uncle was a multimillionaire. My cousins had all the perks like private school and brand-new cars when they turned 16. (My first was a scrapped-up old Honda.) My mother and I were always invited on their trips so I have been to Australia and Europe many times. However, it wasn’t something we could afford on our own so I was very grateful to my uncle.

My girlfriend grew up even poorer than me and never even left the state until last year. My uncle offered the use of his new beach house to us, but it requires a plane trip. My girlfriend wants to go but is upset that my uncle didn’t spring to pay for everything like he did when I was a kid. I reminded her that we were both adults and that he didn’t have to offer anything at all. She accused me of acting condescending and holding all of my travels over her head. I am not going to ask my uncle and I resent the expectation that I should. It will just require some budgeting since we are doing pretty OK right now. How do I deal with my girlfriend? I am tempted to just cancel altogether.

—Beach Business

Dear Beach Business,

It’s unacceptable for your girlfriend to pressure you to ask your uncle to pay for this trip. I get that the wealth disparity might be frustrating and demoralizing. But the bottom line is that you are uncomfortable asking for a free trip, and she should respect that. This is especially true considering you can both afford it with a little budgeting.

There’s certainly a case for canceling, because if you do go on this trip, there’s a good chance she’ll be resentful that she had to pay for it. If you cave and ask your uncle, you’ll be resentful that you were pushed to do something you didn’t want to do.

But before it comes to that, try having a level-headed conversation about it. Start by listening to what upsets her about the situation—and not just in a flippant way where you hear her concerns just to get them out of the way. Then, set your boundary and keep it simple. “I’m not going to ask my uncle to pay for our flight because it makes me uncomfortable.” The discomfort is reason enough, but you can talk more about why it makes you uncomfortable and how you feel about it. Maybe you can offer something else. (You certainly don’t have to, but it might make this easier.) Can you help her come up with a budget? Order takeout less and cook her dinner at home? Once you’ve set this boundary, give her a chance to weigh in about how she feels about it. If she feels like you’re being condescending, talk to her about that. She might be dealing with some deep insecurities about her past, so talking through them could show her that, even if you’re drawing a line, you still care. She might have some lingering feelings she needs to process about the situation—and that’s OK, as long as she doesn’t try to keep forcing you to do something you’re not comfortable with.

If she still insists that you ask your uncle and refuses to take no for an answer, then it might be worth canceling the trip or taking a trip elsewhere. Hopefully, though, you can both work it out because listening and respect are crucial to a functioning relationship. This could be a good opportunity to strengthen yours.

I have a relatively low-stakes situation. My wonderful husband and I are generally on the same page about money. It won’t sound like that by the time you finish reading this, but it really is true. We agree before big purchases, and while he has a few things he purchases personally for his fun hobby, it’s nothing extreme (my personal expenditures are primarily charitable donations and household/decor items). For context, I make almost double his salary and contribute 60 percent to our joint expenses while he covers the remaining 40 percent. We both take work seriously and work very hard.

My issue is how flippant my husband can be in ways both big and small about money. He talks a lot about the importance of saving and how “every penny counts,” but he doesn’t act like it. For instance, I am the one who saves cereal bags and scraps of plastic to reuse as dog poop bags, who carefully conserves the sliver of bar soap to stick on the new bar of soap, who uses the pea-sized amount of toothpaste recommended, who uses dish soap conservatively…you get the idea. My husband will only use store-bought poop bags, would happily toss soap once it gets thin, and goes through toothpaste and soap in bulk (think several pumps of soap for one plate).

This crops up in bigger ways too. For instance, we recently needed to buy a new gardening shed. We had calls with the sales rep that indicated the cost would be X amount, but when it came time to pay, it was $1,000 more than expected. My husband just said we should pay it and it was fine. I refused, did more research, and found a comparable option that fit our original budget. We also have a part-time roommate that my husband constantly whines about, even though she’s great, barely here, low maintenance, and gives us $700 a month in rent. But my husband would happily give up this (amazing) rental situation, despite the extra income, because he occasionally feels mildly inconvenienced.

We don’t fight about this. I make the occasional jokey comment at times to point out the absurdity. But it’s not like he’s out trying to buy boats or gamble. Still, his flippant attitude toward money sometimes drives me nuts. I know the small stuff is just pennies, but it’s frustrating to hear him say things like, “Every little bit counts” when that is so clearly not how he lives. On top of it all, I often feel he ought to know better. I grew up comfortably middle class and never had to worry about money. My husband grew up poor, in his words, and has no family financial support. I’ve read articles from the perspective of people who grew up in tough times and how they do all the same money-saving things I do. But it’s bizarrely the opposite in our case. And since I have five times the savings he has and make so much more money than him, I sometimes resent his flippant, “Let’s just spend the money” mentality, because his savings are minimal, and it wouldn’t take long before it’d really be my money we’re actually spending. So what gives?! Why am I the frugal one? Any way I can talk to him about this?

—Rich Kid Mentality

Dear Rich Kid,

The stakes might be low, but resentment has a way of turning molehills into mountains. As you said, you and your husband are on the same page about the financial decisions you make together—big purchases, spending on hobbies, and so on. But you’re on two very different pages when it comes to your attitudes about money. That kind of disconnect, while seemingly small, can lead to some big problems down the road. At least for you, it’s already leading to some uncomfortable feelings.

The good news is, it’s relatively simple to get to the bottom of this. You both just need to hash out the ideas you each have about money—and because categorizing ourselves can make things even easier, financial psychologist Brad Klontz created a system: the money script . Klontz coined this term to describe the unconscious attitudes and beliefs about money that drive our financial behaviors. He puts these scripts into four buckets: money vigilance (when you’re super careful with your money); money status (when you believe money equals power or social standing); money avoidance (you don’t want to deal with money at all); and money worship (you believe money will solve all your problems).

Your husband grew up poor, but that doesn’t automatically mean he’s going to be money vigilant. If money was a source of pain for him as a child—if his parents fought about it a lot for example—he might be money avoidant as an adult. It’s not fair to expect him to carry a certain belief because of his modest background.

Go over these scripts together and see where you both land. A question that can help jumpstart the conversation: What is your earliest memory about money? The answer can start a larger discussion about each of your financial fears, values, beliefs, and opinions. Like you said, you’re already in a good place about your spending and budget. Knowing where you both stand on the emotional side of money will help you work through any potential budgeting issues with empathy and understanding. I don’t promise that your husband will squeeze every last drop out of the toothpaste tube (and you shouldn’t expect him to), but this conversation is a good starting point to learn and respect each other’s financial values.

I racked up around $15,000 in credit card debt through my 20s living in one of the most expensive cities in the country—bouncing around different jobs and apartments while I “found myself” and also using credit cards to pay for medical expenses and vets for my pets. I’m now in my 30s, have had a stable job for the past five years, and have about $60,000 in restricted stock units (RSU) sitting in an investment account. I’m super unfamiliar with how to navigate investments, and my question is whether I should sell some of my stocks to pay off the credit cards. On one hand, I’m paying a couple of hundred dollars a month on the credit cards to cover the minimum payments. But on the other hand, my company’s stock is kind of low at the moment so I worry that if I cash out now, I could miss out on potential upside if I wait it out for the stock to go up. I’m generally a very risk-averse person, and just even thinking about this gives me anxiety, so I kind of want to cash out to just not have to think about this. But I need some guidance—please help!

—Credit or Cash Out?

Dear Credit or Cash,

Assuming your vesting period is over and you do indeed own the stock, there’s a strong case to be made for selling some of your restricted stock units to pay off your debt. You’re right—it’s not ideal to sell low. But if it means getting out of credit card debt, the numbers probably make sense. As a rule of thumb, most money experts recommend prioritizing debt payoff when the interest rate on that debt is above about five or six percent. I’m guessing your credit cards are well over that amount.

If you’re only paying the minimum payment on your cards every month, that means you’re accruing more and more interest on your debt each month. Essentially, you’re paying to be in debt, and the amount you pay is getting higher as time goes on. Yes, your stocks are theoretically earning a return over time, and you could sell higher later, but there’s a good chance that whatever return they earn is much less than the interest you’ll end up paying on your credit cards. I don’t know your credit card interest rate, but it’s likely much higher than the rate of return on those stocks. If your credit card has an interest rate of 24 percent ( the current U.S. average ), your investments will need to be earning 24 percent to cover the cost of interest. Again, it’s unlikely that’s the case.

If you want, you could just do the math: Plug your debt into a credit card interest calculator to see how much you’ll pay in interest over time. Then compare it to your stocks. Plug that $15,000 for example, into a compound interest calculator to see how big of a return that amount would earn over the same period of time it would take for you to pay back the debt. You’ll likely find that the credit card interest kind of eats into those earnings.

All that said, there are complicated rules for restricted stock units and tax implications for withdrawing from investment accounts—the tax you have to pay when you cash out your investments would also be something to consider. Talk to a certified financial planner . There’s a good chance they’ll urge you to sell to pay off your debt, but they can also look at the specifics of your situation to ensure you’re making the best possible choice. And if you do sell, it’ll be smart to have a CFP on hand to help walk you through the process.

How do you split finances when one partner chooses to take a step back? My fiancé started a business after a layoff. It’s been six months of business development and now that it’s launched, it doesn’t seem like a big earner (he’s made one sale). He can’t explain the realistic earning potential here past, “It’s an untapped market with unlimited earnings” (I promise this isn’t an MLM). I don’t understand the market and I don’t feel as confident as he does about the business’s potential. We got engaged between the layoff and the business starting. We’ve always split expenses 50/50 (when he was salaried, he made 1.5 times what I did) but that doesn’t feel right to me in a marriage. We’re supposed to be a team! I don’t love the idea of him taking his foot off the gas, employment-wise, and I essentially become the sole provider for someone choosing to take a big risk over a dependable, salaried job. We are not having children, so there isn’t a future where he provides and I tend to babies. How do we navigate this?

—Not-So-Supportive Partner

Dear Not-So-Supportive Partner,

I’m curious why you expected 50/50 from yourself (when you weren’t the one with a higher salary) but not your fiancé. That might be a leading question and outside of the scope of your concern, but it’s something to think about. You seem uncomfortable funding this business venture. Yes, he experienced a setback, but it sounds like his income is going to be uncertain for the time being. Couples navigate these types of ventures in different ways, and for some, that means one person becomes the sole provider until the business grows. You’ll have to decide if you’re OK with that, and if you are, it would be useful for you both to come up with ground rules. That way, your fiancé knows what to expect for his business planning, and you don’t get resentful.

Decide on a split that you feel comfortable with and that’s also realistic for him financially. Then put a time frame on the business. How much longer are you willing to wait before it earns enough for him to pay a larger share? He earned almost twice as much as you did—was he saving for an emergency during that time? Perhaps that fund could help pay for some of those expenses.

My concern here is that you might be holding yourself to a higher financial standard than your partner. Yes, he’s going through a career pivot, and that can be incredibly tough. Just make sure to give yourself the same leeway.

I play the violin, and my boyfriend plays piano. We were supposed to play at my sister’s wedding, but two weeks before the event, I went running in the park, fell, and fractured my arm. I was near my sister’s house at the time and called to ask her to take me to the ER. She was very upset and concerned about how this would affect the wedding. She scolded me for being so careless. I was in a lot of pain and started crying.

Nicole Richie Jokes Don’t Tell Mom ‘Inspired’ Her to Take a Trip Without Her Kids: 'Go Off, Queen!' (Exclusive)

Richie has two teenagers with her husband Joel Madden

Nicole Richie doesn’t judge the mother in Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead , who leaves her kids behind to take a solo trip on the other side of the world.

In fact, Richie, 42, who shares daughter Harlow, 16, and son Sparrow, 14 , with husband of 14 years, Joel Madden , 45, says she was “inspired” to do the same.

“I was like, ‘Go off, Queen! I need to start doing that.’ I was like, ‘I'm stressed too. I would also like to go on a retreat, so please bring me with you,’” Richie tells PEOPLE.

Richie stars in the remake of the 1991 classic, which starred Christina Applegate as a teen who fakes her way into a job at a fashion company when her mom (Concetta Tomei) takes off on vacation, leaving her kids behind with an elderly babysitter who then dies.

In the updated version, Richie plays Rose, the eccentric but nurturing boss of the teen character Tanya ( Simone Joy Jones ) who pretends to be in her twenties and lands the executive assistant gig.

The role was perfect for Richie, seeing as she’s a die-hard fan of the original.

“I feel like I've seen it no less than a thousand times. I love that movie,” she tells PEOPLE. “I don't even think that I did a re-watch right before we started shooting because I think I just naturally watch it maybe, I don't know, once a year, whenever it's on.”

“I just love it. It's feel good. It takes me back. I love the family adventure. I love movies where you are just rooting for the teenager that's just trying to make her way and how all the adults feel like aliens,” she continues. “And it's just, to me, that is what just makes me feel at home and happy and cozy.”

Richie says she didn’t try to emulate Joanna Cassidy, who played Rose in the original.

“There would be no point in doing an imitation or being like, ‘I'm just going to do this and make it better’ because you just simply cannot,” says Richie, adding that director Wade Allain-Marcus “really encouraged us to bring ourselves into every character that everyone was playing.”

Iconic Events Releasing

“It was important for me to really just keep the spirit of Rose, but know that we are watching this adult through a teenager's eyes,” she continues. “And I think because I have a teenager, I'm pretty familiar of how they look at adults, and so I really just leaned into that view of how they look at us.”

When Richie spoke with PEOPLE, her children — whom she brought to the premiere April 2 — had not yet seen the movie, but she revealed on Today April 8 that they gave their stamp of approval .

"They are teens so they’re pretty chill about it. But they were happy to be there and they did tell me I did a good job. So I was like, ‘I will take that, thank you very much,' " she said.

Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead is in theaters April 12.

Blue Wire announced the acquisition of Don’t Trip on Tuesday, the network’s latest addition to their comedy and culture offerings, as hosts David Egbo and Justice Summerset give listeners advice on life, sex and relationships.

Meeting as student athletes on the University of Arizona’s track team, the duo share an authentic friendship and passion for podcasting that has allowed them to naturally gain a huge listenership and social media presence around Don’t Trip. Since they began their show in early 2021, the hosts have been recording and uploading episodes and clips to YouTube and TikTok , allowing their audience to span multiple platforms. Check out their Q&A below to learn more about the show.

What was the process of you guys starting the podcast?

David : We started the podcast while we were in college. We had another YouTube channel called The Shepherds, which was public interviews. We just wanted to talk and we did a lot of different stuff. And then when COVID hit, we had to stay in the house, so we ended up just buying podcast equipment. So, we just decided to make our own in January 2021.

Your podcast Don’t Trip is a conversational advice-based show, which translates really well to audio and on social media. What made you go that route with the show?

David : We were trying to look for something that everybody could relate to, and something that there would really be endless content for. So, relationships and life fell into our pocket but our main thing was just asking whatever you want. At first, we got a ton of questions about different things but most of them were relationship questions, but it's pretty much asked whatever you want.

Justice : I think the idea that we were aiming the podcast for was to be a conversation with your homies. We just wanted to record stuff that we talked about every day, just hanging out sitting on the couch. And so, we put a mic behind it and started recording and filming. Our show focuses on topics you’d talk to your friend about every day.

When did you guys start posting on Tik Tok? What was your initial goal with posting clips on social media?

David : When we started, I don't think TikTok was at its peak, but we did know that TikTok was definitely the platform to get it going. So, we actually started the podcast because it did well on TikTok. So, we just did a couple of short clips first, and we're like, okay, if one of these pops off, and I think people like our stuff, and we'll go with it. And we posted two videos, got thousands of views each and then our next video got around 750k views. So, we saw people really liked this stuff. TikTok has been a big factor, but I also think it could have been YouTube - we were looking for the biggest thing to catapult us.

Justice : One of the cool things about TikTok is that it will direct you to someone's Instagram, or someone's YouTube. And that's also how Don’t Trip grew because we interact with our listeners and they can submit their questions to Instagram DMs or other places. So TikTok helped filter those followers from there to Instagram or YouTube, and they drive our content. That's really how we've grown so fast, is from figuring out the right time to post and what works and what doesn’t.

Do you guys have any advice that you would give to someone looking to start a podcast or grow a following on social media?

Justice : I say just do it. Go for it. Don't try and plan it out - we literally just bought the equipment. We bought the equipment, thinking we’re just going to put this online and see how it does. You can't be scared and worried about the numbers before you even create any content. And then, once you do get something solid, you have to be consistent with it. And I think that's the biggest thing that David's worked on, is being consistent when he posts. If you’re posting once every two or three weeks, you're not going to get the correct flow. Our listeners know what and when we're about to post. So, you know, it’s consistency.

David : Consistency is key. Definitely. And I think one of the biggest things that makes it easy for me and J, is you got to be yourself. It’s got to be a topic or something that you really know. Because a lot of people listen to our show. And they're like, ‘Oh, you guys are real. You guys are like talking about real life scenarios.’ And when we don't, it's not scripted. You need to pick your topic wisely and then stick with it and just really be yourself.

How are you envisioning Don’t Trip as it grows?

David : Our catchphrase right now is “advice at no price”. A lot of people come to us talking about how the show helps them in their real lives, so it means a lot that we actually have people that are being impacted by what we're saying. And we definitely want to grow on that. Whether it be new segments giving more specific advice and other things. We want to be able to not just be a podcast, but a movement. We want to branch out and impact as many lives as we can in a positive way. While also being funny, too. And, now with Blue Wire, we have more resources to have online interaction. We're going to go to the Blue Wire studio for a couple of days and cover all the questions people have been hitting us with - we're compiling them into a list so we can record those and have more content also. We filmed our first online episode and it went pretty smoothly so we’re able to film bi-weekly and keep up with current content.

You can listen to Don’t Trip across all major platforms, including Apple Podcasts , Google Podcasts , Spotify , Amazon Music , Stitcher , and Overcast. Full episodes of the podcast are available on YouTube. You can also keep up to date on all things Don’t Trip by following their TikTok.

To submit a question for David and Justice to answer on the podcast, DM them on Instagram .

We'd love to talk! Get in touch today.

Republicans against Trump can banish him with one trip to the ballot box

If there was ever a moment to really put country over party, it’s now: by voting, just once, for biden..

Here’s a wake-up call for New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu and other prominent Republicans who have rebuked Donald Trump and Trumpism but have stopped short of promising to do what is necessary in 2024 to stop him: If there was ever a moment to publicly embrace country over party, it’s now.

Governor Chris Sununu of New Hampshire has a history of speaking frankly about Donald Trump.

“He’s (expletive) crazy!” the four-term Republican governor said in 2022 at the Gridiron Club’s dinner roast in Washington .

“I don’t think he’s so crazy that you could put him in a mental institution,” Sununu continued. “But I think if he were in one, he ain’t getting out!”

Less than two months ago, as a surrogate for Trump’s GOP primary opponent Nikki Haley, Sununu was still as blunt while speaking at Politico’s Governors Summit . “Assholes come and go,” Sununu quipped. “But America is here to stay.”

America as we know it, based on foundational principles such as democracy and respect for the rule of law, may not last another Trump term. Trump left Washington in 2021 as it reeled from the deadly Jan. 6 attack on the US Capitol that he helped incite in an effort to hold on to power like a dictator. Now he’s plotting his path back by campaigning on a platform of autocracy, promising a dark, dystopian future for the nation that is built on revenge , hatred , destruction , and even violence .

Trump has promised to on Day One free from jail convicted Jan. 6 insurrectionists , whom he calls “hostages.” He said he would task the Justice Department with locking up his political enemies . He promised to sic the military on American cities . He praises and sidles up to “strongman” leaders like Kim Jong Un of North Korea, Vladimir Putin of Russia, and Viktor Orbán of Hungary. His massive debt and carelessness with the nation’s sensitive secrets make him a severe national security threat . He is the polar opposite of what an American leader should be.

The tone of his bid to return to the White House is summed up by his Truth Social video post featuring an image of President Biden hog-tied in the back of a truck.

Yet among Trump’s endorsers is Sununu, who promised even as a backer of Haley to vote for the eventual Republican presidential nominee. I guess that applies whether that nominee is a lying, insurrection-spurring, election-denying, conspiracy theory-peddling, fraud-committing, criminally charged, rule of law-defying despot or not.

This decision may defy all rules of common sense, but it unfortunately doesn’t defy conventional political wisdom. Though Sununu prides himself in — and has been lauded for — his bipartisan approach to governing, he’s still a Republican. And to him, a GOP win is a win.

Here’s a wake-up call for Sununu and other prominent Republicans who have rebuked Trump and Trumpism but have stopped short of promising to do what is necessary in 2024 to stop him: If there was ever a moment to publicly embrace country over party, it’s now.

This presidential election is not just a contest between a Democrat and a Republican. It is not, as some members of the press seem to insist, a choice between two unpopular old men. It is a choice between democracy and its destruction.

To quote Trump directly, “ You either have a country, or you don’t .” With Biden, you may not like his policies, but you have a country. If he is defeated, all bets are off.

If GOP Trump foes truly want to end his reign, they can make a limited, one-time vow to help defeat him in November by voting for Biden, and — perhaps more important — urging others to do so as well.

I’m not suggesting Sununu forge this path alone. That would just ensure the kind of banishment he is clearly seeking to avoid. I reached out to Sununu for comment, but got none as of press time.

But this message is for all democracy-respecting Republicans who understand the stakes but have stopped short of embracing the only clear solution. I’m talking to you, Senators Mitt Romney of Utah and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska. Also to Haley and other former GOP primary rivals like former New Jersey governor Chris Christie, former Arkansas governor Asa Hutchinson, and the very man whose life Trump endangered on Jan. 6, former vice president Mike Pence.

I’m hoping that former Representative Liz Cheney of Wyoming, who so valiantly worked to ensure the American people and the Department of Justice got the real facts about what happened on Jan. 6 , will step up. And given the strength that comes with numbers, that the balance is tipped to allow others to follow suit.

I’m heartened that the group No Labels dropped its third-party presidential ticket bid. Pushing past partisanship, as Sununu does, is a valiant goal, but it is out of step with the reality of the 2024 election if it just helps Trump win. And as for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and his tin-hat campaign: Shame on you for threatening the nation for which members of your family paid the ultimate price.

The moment Biden is inaugurated into his second term, Republicans and activists can go right back to opposing Biden policies with all the vigor they can muster. That’s how democracy works. But it works only if democracy lives. One vote — just one vote — can help save it.
