Estimates of Emergency Department Visits in the United States, 2016-2021

The National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey (NHAMCS), conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), collects annual data on visits to emergency departments to describe patterns of utilization and provision of ambulatory care delivery in the United States. Data are collected from nonfederal, general, and short-stay hospitals from all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia, and are used to develop nationally representative estimates.

This visualization depicts both counts and rates of emergency department visits from 2016-2021 for the 10 leading primary diagnoses and reasons for visit, stratified by selected patient and hospital characteristics. Rankings for the 10 leading categories were identified using weighted data from 2021 and were then assessed in prior years; however, rankings were relatively consistent over the evaluated years. See tables in the Definitions section below the visualization for changes in leading primary diagnoses and reasons for visit from 2016-2021. Estimates in this visualization highlight and expand on information provided in the annual NHAMCS web tables , which can be used to assess how these categories and rankings changed over the evaluated years.

Use the tabs at the bottom of the visualization to select between “Primary Diagnosis” and “Reason for Visit”.  Use the drop-down menus at the top of the visualization to select the estimate type, the estimate category, and the group breakdown of interest.

Calculated by dividing the number of ED visits by estimates of the U.S. civilian noninstitutionalized population (obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau’s Population Division) for selected characteristics including age, sex, and race and ethnicity. Visit rates for MSA are based on estimates of the U.S. civilian noninstitutionalized population from the National Health Interview Survey, compiled according to the Office of Management and Budget definitions of core-based statistical areas. More information about MSA definitions is available from: https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/metro-micro.html . Visit rates for patient’s expected source of payment are based on patient’s primary expected source of payment and proportional insurance data from the National Health Interview Survey.

During data collection, all sources of payment were collected. For patients with more than one source of payment, the hierarchy below was used (with Medicare counted first and self-pay and no charge counted last) to collapse payments into one mutually exclusive variable (expected source of payment). Visits that had a missing or unknown expected payment source were excluded (between 10-14% [weighted] from 2016-2021).

  • Medicare: Partial or full payment by Medicare plan includes payments made directly to the hospital as well as payments reimbursed to the patient. Charges covered under a Medicare-sponsored prepaid plan are included.
  • Medicaid: Partial or full payment by Medicaid plan includes payments made directly to the hospital or reimbursed to the patient. Charges covered under a Medicaid-sponsored prepaid plan (HMO) or “managed Medicaid” are included.
  • Private: Partial or full payment by a private insurer (such as BlueCross BlueShield), either directly to the hospital or reimbursed to the patient. Charges covered under a private insurance-sponsored prepaid plan are included.
  • Uninsured: Includes self-pay and no charge or charity. Self-pay are charges paid by the patient or patient’s family that will not be reimbursed by a third party. Self-pay includes visits for which the patient is expected to be responsible for most of the bill, even if the patient never actually pays it. This does not include copayments or deductibles. No charge or charity are visits for which no fee is charged (such as charity, special research, or teaching).
  • Other: Includes Worker’s Compensation and other sources of payment not covered by the above categories, such as TRICARE, state and local governments, private charitable organizations, and other liability insurance (such as automobile collision policy coverage).

Race and Hispanic ethnicity were collected separately and converted into a single combined variable that includes non-Hispanic White, non-Hispanic Black, Hispanic, and non-Hispanic other people. Non-Hispanic other people includes Asian, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, and American Indian or Alaska Native people, and people with two or more races. Missing values for race and ethnicity were imputed as described in the 2019 NHAMCS public-use documentation, available from: https://ftp.cdc.gov/pub/Health_Statistics/NCHS/Dataset_Documentation/NHAMCS/doc19-ed-508.pdf .

Video Visitation

Video visitation is a great way to connect with your loved one over the internet, without having to worry about unpredictable crowds and overly busy visitation hours.

Visits can be scheduled and paid for in advance, allowing you to visit with inmates at times that are convenient for you.

We offer two types of Video Visitation services:

At-Home Video Visits

These video visits can be conducted at home on your PC computer, laptop or mobile device (Android).

Save travel expenses, time, long lines and parking fees with at-home video visits.

Ease stress on children who can now communicate without visiting the facility in person.

On-site Video Visits

On-site video visits are conducted at visitation stations at the facility.

With these visits, you are still required to travel to the facility.

Through our easy-to-use website, you can schedule, register, and pay for (if applicable) the visit in advance. Then, conduct the visit in real-time over the internet.

Please note: These services can vary by facility and are not available at all locations.

Three Types of Video Visits

' title=

At Facility

These visits are when you go to your facility and sit at a video visit station in the lobby. Your loved one or friend will be on a video visit station in their pod.

From Computer

At select facilities families and friends can have video visits from their own personal computers in the comfort of their own homes. You will need the following equipment to do a video visit from home:

  • A computer.
  • A webcam and a microphone, or a computer with these components built in (most laptops have these built in).
  • An internet browser. Internet browsers Safari 4 and higher, or Firefox 7 and higher, are strongly recommended. Using other browsers may not load the page appropriately in order to begin your visit. We are not responsible for technical problems or issues that may arise from using an unsupported browser.
  • For the best visit experience you should use headphones, but they are not required.
  • High speed internet (DSL or Cable) connection (dial up and satellite are not supported).

From Android Device

Video visits go mobile with our Visit Now Android app. At select facilities families and friends can have video visits from their own Android devices.

How to Schedule a Visit

Free video visit policy.

Free visits are a benefit for the inmate and are credited to the  inmate’s account. Therefore the inmate is the only one who  can book a free visit . This allows the inmate at your facility full control of whom they want to use their free visit with. There are also advanced scheduling rules that control the timeframe that a free visit can be booked. These rules vary by facility. If an inmate books a visit outside this timeframe, they will not be allowed to use a free visit.

  • Book the visit with their Friends & Family.
  • Suggest a visit with their Friends & Family. The Friends & Family must have no prepaid funds on their account at the time they confirm the suggested time. The inmate’s free visit will then be deducted.
  • Confirm a suggested visit from their friends and family. The Friends & Family must have no prepaid funds on their account at the time the inmate confirms the visit. The inmate’s free visit will then be deducted from their free visit allowance.

The only way Friends & Family can use a free visit is by suggesting a visit with the inmate. If the inmate has a free visit available and there are no prepaid funds on the Friends & Family account at the time the inmate confirms, the free visit will be deducted from inmate’s account.

If you are asked to be Telmate Verified it means your facility requires verification of your identity prior to acceptance of inmates' calls. The purpose of verification is to ensure inmates are not connecting with inappropriate people on the outside. The verification process is simple and can be completed before or after creating an account.

To be verified, you can make a deposit , schedule a visit or download and complete the Telmate Verified form .

16 Essential Tips For Your First Visit At The San Diego Zoo

for visit at

  • Activities and Interests
  • Destinations
  • United States

Koalas and Komodos. Camels and condors. Rhinos and reindeer. The list of animals at the San Diego Zoo is long, and for most people, it takes more than a day to see them all. From elephants to invertebrates, the zoo is home to more than 12,000 creatures spread across a 100-acre park. Miles of paved paths and roads criss-cross the zoo, wandering through areas representing habitats from tropical rainforests to the Arctic.

That’s actually part of the fun. “If you go see the tigers, you feel like you’re walking through a trail in Africa,” said Zoo Ambassador Rick Schwartz. “If you go see the polar bears, you feel like you’re in the Arctic.”

With so much to see and ground to cover, how do you make the most of your visit? We talked with Schwartz to find out the answers. Here is his advice, plus other tips and tricks to make your trip to the San Diego Zoo a roaring success.

Note: The San Diego Zoo generously hosted my visit. All opinions are my own.

1. Download The App

Before you visit the zoo, the first thing to do is download the San Diego Zoo app (found on the App Store and Google Play ) to your smartphone, Schwartz advised. That’s where you’ll find the most up-to-date information on hours, admission prices, and special events, such as wildlife care specialist talks. You can also go to the zoo website .

The app has a bonus: You can find your favorite animals (just tap on the map in the background) and save them (tap the plus sign in the upper right) to your planner (the clipboard icon at the bottom of the screen). Each animal page will also alert you to wildlife care specialist talks, if there is one. Paper maps are available just inside the admission gate.

2. Plan To See Your Favorite Animals

With so many exotic animals to see, it’s helpful to set priorities. Make a plan for visiting your favorite animals and new areas of the zoo, such as the immersive Wildlife Explorers Basecamp. The planner in the app can record your must-see animals and offer information about them. The app and the zoo map (found in printable PDF form ) can show you where they are located.

Check to see if there are any wildlife care specialist talks . Look out for for special talks and up-close experiences, which are available for an additional fee.

“If you don’t have a favorite, take the bus tour and see what strikes your fancy,” Schwartz recommends.

Skyfari Aerial Tram over the Treetops complex.

3. Strategize Your Route

Now that you know what animals you don’t want to miss, it’s time to strategize your route to make the most of your time and minimize tiring uphill hikes. With the animals’ locations marked on the zoo map, you can plan your day to reduce the distances and uphills you’ll walk as you go from one section of the park to another.

You can also use the map to spot stairs, the aerial tram route, the Kangaroo Bus stops, and the elevators that will be key to navigating the park. Unlimited use of these is included in the admission price.

You’ll find the elevators at the Treetops complex, the end of the Bashor Bridge, and where the Monkey Trail and Tiger Trail meet. The double-decker Kangaroo bus stops are also marked on the map. It’s not easy to spot the hills on the map, but the tram, bus, and elevators allow you to avoid most uphill treks. For more help planning a route, stop by the information booth on Front Street.

4. Wear Good Walking Shoes

Even with the aerial tram and the in-park shuttle bus, seeing the animals is still going to take some walking. “My number one tip is to wear comfortable shoes,” Schwartz said. “The biggest mistake is wearing beach sandals because you’re planning on going to the beach later.”

Sun hats hanging on a rack.

5. Use Sun Protection

“The other [big mistake] is not putting on sunscreen,” Schwartz said. San Diego’s mild weather doesn’t feel too hot, but a day in the sun will nonetheless leave you red as a lobster. Shops along Front Street, just inside the gate, sell a variety of sunhats, sunglasses, and sunscreen if you don’t bring your own.

6. Rent Some Wheels

Wheelchairs, strollers, and motorized scooters are all available on Front Street, to the left of the entrance gate. They are available on a first come, first served basis. An ADA shuttle is also available for guests with mobility challenges. More information about San Diego Zoo services can be found at the website or the information booth (to the right of the entrance, near the bus tours sign). Guided cart tours are also available for a fee.

7. Lighten Your Load

You don’t have to haul your lunch, coats, luggage, and other items around with you all day. Lockers are on Front Street to the left of the entrance; if they are out of order, the stroller rental counter can store your items for a fee. Be aware that there aren’t any dog kennels, and the zoo has a strict no-dog policy. Only trained guide dogs are allowed in the park.

8. Buy Tickets In Advance

The great advantage of buying tickets in advance is that you get to skip the line and go straight into the zoo. You can buy tickets online for a single day at the zoo, multiple days, or both the zoo and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. The zoo also offers the San Diego 3-for-1 Pass, which includes the San Diego Zoo, Safari Park, and SeaWorld San Diego.

Wildlife Explorers Basecamp.

9. Save On Admission

The zoo’s San Diego 3-for-1 Pass isn’t the only pass that offers savings on admission by combining the zoo with other attractions. A few to check out: San Diego CityPASS , Go San Diego Pass, and the Go City All-Inclusive Pass . You must buy tickets at the gate and show appropriate identification to receive the veterans’ or AAA membership discount on admission. The San Diego Zoo does not offer reciprocity for members of other zoos.

10. Get There Early

Getting to the zoo as soon as it opens has several advantages: easier parking, shorter lines, and cooler temperatures. It also makes it easier to rent a wheelchair or motorized scooter. But the main reason to go early is that the animals are most active in the mornings and evenings.

11. Remember Where You Parked Your Car

It’s a big parking lot. Take note (or a photo) of the row you parked in so when you’re tired after a long day exploring, you don’t have to work too hard to remember where you left the car — especially a rental car that you’re unlikely to recognize anyway.

Polar Bear coming up from the water.

12. Take The Free Bus Tour

The free 30-minute bus tour (to the right of the entrance) is a great way to get an overall view of the park, to see what areas you might want to explore later. It’s not a hop-on-and-off bus; that’s the Kangaroo Bus, which is also free. Try to sit on the right side of the bus; the polar bears are on the left, but most other animals are on the right.

Albert's Restaurant

13. Read The Menus

The zoo has 20 venues with food and drinks — including wine and beer — though they may not all be open when you visit. Read through the menus online before you go and decide on a few lunch options, so when hunger strikes you know where to go. If you want to enjoy fine dining at Albert’s, it never hurts to make reservations.

14. Bring Your Own Lunch And Snacks

You can bring your own lunches, snacks, and drinks to the zoo. This can be especially helpful if you have allergies or special dietary needs. Lunch bags can be stored in lockers or checked at the stroller rental counter (for a fee) if you don’t want to carry them all day. Leave the large coolers at home.

15. Reserve A Special Experience

For a truly memorable day, reserve one of the up-close or behind-the-scenes experiences at the zoo. Spend the morning with cheetahs, learn more about other cats, or get a unique view of the animals at the zoo with 90-minute Inside Look tours. Reserve these special experiences in advance. The cost of tours and experiences varies.

16. Make A Day Of It

Schwartz’s final piece of advice? Bring the whole family, and take your time exploring the zoo. “It’s one of the things we can all do it together. That’s one of the great things about it,” he said. “Plan to spend a whole day to really enjoy it.”

What to Expect at Your Annual Wellness Visit

Once a year, you make an appointment with your primary care physician to make sure your health is in good working order and detect potential concerns early, before symptoms are noticeable.

To schedule your annual wellness or follow-up office visit with a provider in Primary Care, please visit here or login to Connect .

Most insurance plans cover your annual wellness exam — no copay required. However, you may find the actual components of a wellness visit a bit confusing.

Review the FAQs below to learn what to expect during your next annual wellness visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in a wellness visit.

Your annual wellness visit includes the following:

  • A review of your medical and surgical history
  • Screenings - we generally follow screening recommendations of the USPSTF
  • Blood tests
  • Immunizations - we follow the vaccine schedules published by the CDC
  • A physical exam
  • Counseling to prevent future health problems

How should I prepare for my visit?

Please check in via Connect up to 5 days before your visit to make sure we have your most up-to-date information, including your medications, medical history and insurance. You will be able to update these, along with your preferred pharmacy. You can also review and update your responses to your health questionnaire.

Please fast for at least 4 hours prior to your visit. You may drink water or black coffee, and take your maintenance medications.  Pediatric and Gynecology patients should not fast.

On the day of your appointment, please arrive on time and bring your insurance card and ID.

What if I need to ask my doctor about a specific medical issue?

Specific issues are considered part of a follow-up or “sick” visit. These aspects of your visit will be billed to your insurance, and you may be responsible for copayments, coinsurance or deductible payments, based on the terms of your policy.

If you would like to address non-routine concerns during your wellness visit, you can let your doctor know about these issues when you schedule your appointment. Depending on their complexity, the questions may need to be dealt with at a later time.

What does a follow-up or “sick” visit include?

  • Treatment of a chronic condition such as diabetes, asthma or high blood pressure
  • Any new problems or complaints
  • Your need for new medications or tests
  • Referrals to a specialist
  • Additional treatment options

What is a Medicare annual wellness visit and what does it include?

The Medicare annual wellness visit, covered by Medicare, allows your health-care provider to conduct a health risk assessment and propose screenings and prevention strategies. As well, your provider will make sure all your immunizations, cancer screenings and other screenings are discussed and scheduled.

Your Medicare wellness visit does not include a detailed physical exam or management of chronic or new medical problems . Your physician may be able to perform a complete physical and address new or existing medical issues during your Medicare annual wellness visit, but you could incur additional charges.

What to expect during your Medicare annual wellness visit

At your Medicare annual wellness visit, your health care provider will:

  • Review your blood pressure, heart rate, height, weight and body mass index (BMI).
  • Review your current health problems, as well as your medical, surgical, family and social histories.
  • Review your current medications.
  • Conduct a health risk assessment.
  • Provide nutrition counseling.
  • Discuss an exercise plan to fit your lifestyle.
  • Discuss smoking cessation and arrange for counseling, if needed.
  • Discuss fall prevention.
  • Discuss advance care planning.
  • Discuss preventive screenings recommended by evidence-based practice guidelines that are indicated for you based upon your age, risk factors and family history

How to prepare for your Medicare wellness visit

Bring these items to your visit:

  • Immunization records
  • A list of current prescribed medicines, supplements and over-the-counter medications
  • A list of your patient care team—any specialists you see for various types of care
  • Be prepared to review your family medical history.

Can I combine a Medicare or non-Medicare wellness visit with a follow up visit?

Combining a wellness visit with a follow-up office visit will save you time by eliminating an extra appointment, but doing so may affect your costs. Additional concerns beyond a wellness visit may be billed to your insurance, which can  result in unplanned out-of-pocket costs to you. For these reasons, Weill Cornell Primary Care recommends that you schedule your annual wellness visit and any follow-up or sick office visits separately.

What are the most important points I need to keep in mind?

  • Review your insurance plan’s summary of benefits before your appointment to understand what your insurance company will or will not cover.
  • When scheduling a wellness visit, clearly state that you would like to make an appointment for your annual wellness or preventive care exam. That will help the practice prepare for your visit and bill your insurance company appropriately.
  • When you speak with your doctor or other practitioner, let them know you are there for a wellness exam. Or, if you need to discuss a specific concern that may require treatment, make sure to bring their attention to any non-routine concerns at the start of your appointment.

Germany's Scholz arrives in China on a visit marked by trade tensions and Ukraine conflict

BEIJING — German Chancellor Olaf Scholz arrived in China on Sunday on a visit focused on the increasingly tense economic relationship between the sides and differences over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Scholz’s first destination was the industrial hub of Chongqing, where he and his delegation of ministers and business leaders were to visit a partially German-funded company and other sites in the vast city, which is a production base for China’s auto and other industries.

Scholz is also scheduled to visit the financial hub of Shanghai during his three-day visit, before traveling to the capital, Beijing, to meet with Chinese leader Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang.

German companies such as BMW and Volkswagen are highly reliant on the Chinese market, but Beijing’s support for Russia creates frictions with the West.

Germany’s economy has benefited from China’s demand for investment and manufactured items from cars to chemicals, but those ties have frayed amid increasing competition from Chinese companies and tightened regulations. Political interference has also been blamed for a sharp drop in foreign investment.

German companies have argued they face unfair market barriers in China and the government has pushed for a policy of “de-risking” to reduce reliance on the Chinese market and suppliers.

Despite that, China remained Germany’s top trading partner for the eighth straight year in 2023, with 254.1 billion euros ($271 billion) in goods and services exchanged between the sides, slightly more than what Germany traded with the U.S. but a 15.5% contraction from the year before. German exports to China totaled 97.3 billion euros ($104 billion), according to Germany’s Federal Statistical Office, although figures have varied depending on exchange rate fluctuations and rounding of numbers.

Chinese state broadcaster CCTV showed Scholz descending from his plane in Chonqing and leaving in a motorcade, but did not carry any comments made to the welcoming delegation.

Prior to his arrival, Scholz posted on social platform X that he had discussed the “massive” Russian air attacks on civilian energy infrastructure with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Saturday, and declared that Berlin will “stand unbreakably by Ukraine’s side.”

China has refused to criticize Russian aggression. It has maintained trade relations with President Vladimir Putin’s government and aligned its foreign policy with Moscow in opposition to the U.S.-led liberal political order, while touting its authoritarian one-party system as a superior alternative.

After visiting a hydrogen motor production facility run by German firm Bosch, Scholz toured the city with young architects and was to go on a boat cruise on the famed Yangtze River, one of two mighty waterways that partly surround the city perched on overlooking cliffs.

Following a visit Monday to Shanghai, Scholz will fly to Beijing and meet with Xi Tuesday at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse before being received with military honors by Li at the Great Hall of the People, the seat of the ceremonial legislature in the heart of the Chinese capital. Further visits and meetings will follow before he departs late Wednesday night.

This is Scholz’s second trip to China since he became chancellor in late 2021. His previous visit was in November 2022 and essentially was a one-day trip because of the strict COVID restrictions still in place at the time.

It is his first visit since the German government last year presented its China strategy, which met with criticism from Beijing . Premier Li and a delegation of senior officials visited Berlin in June.

Associated Press reporter Geir Moulson contributed to this report from Berlin.

Dallas Cowboys Host 30 Visit With Draft Target Jackson Powers-Johnson; Trade Back and Pick?

The Dallas Cowboys have been linked to Oregon center Jackson Powers-Johnson for much of the NFL Draft cycle. Does his top 30 visit chance that projection?

  • Author: Anthony Licciardi

In this story:

For as long as it became clear that center Tyler Biadasz’s future with the Dallas Cowboys was in doubt, Oregon center Jackson Powers-Johnson has frequently been mocked as a replacement.

However, a lackluster free agency has thrown the Dallas roster into a state of unsteadiness. Replacing left tackle Tyron Smith likely takes priority over the center position, and no moves to address receiver Michael Gallup’s departure or two edge rushers heading to the Washington Commanders have been made. Each need is underlined by the maybe-threat of having to replace quarterback Dak Prescott next season.

Subsequently, the Cowboys have several options available to them at No. 24 , from another first-round lineman to a dynamic threat on the boundary. The consensus has largely pegged the top tackle remaining to America’s Team, but Powers-Johnson certainly isn’t out of the running.

Craig Strobeck-USA TODAY Sports

Unsurprisingly, Dallas has already held a visit with Powers-Johnson. Per reports, the Pittsburgh Steelers, Chicago Bears, Carolina Panthers, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers have, too.

It’s worth noting that the Oregon product’s hype has been driven more from non-sourced media than analysts known to have a thumb on the pulse of decision-makers. That isn’t to disparage the draftniks that have granted him Round 1 grades – he was impressive this past season – but to some, a slide to Round 2 wouldn’t be surprising.

Powers-Johnson’s critics will point to poor knee bend that saps him of power and a lack of athletic testing that could have eased some concerns. Additionally, Oregon’s offense was designed to get the ball out quick, leaving some wondering how much he was truly asked to do in pass protection.

Given how the league seems to view him, he may be a priority for the Cowboys if they trade back from No. 24.

Despite his flaws, Powers-Johnson was Pro Football Focus’ highest-graded center from this past season and allowed just a single pressure. He was a single-year starter, but it’s hard to have a more promising campaign than he produced. Powers-Johnson won the Rimington Trophy for his efforts as the best center in the country.

For now, fans can consider the top 30 visit an act of due diligence. As a legitimate candidate for one of the team’s first two picks, and one of the best players at his position, the Cowboys were always going to give him an extended look.

There are legitimate concerns in his profile, but depending on how the board shakes out, Powers-Johnson could be the best player available. He projects as a Day 1 starter, and with the state of Dallas’ line, that could give him an advantage over offensive linemen viewed as projects with massive upside.

'That's the Lord's chicken.' Trump visits Atlanta Chick-fil-A before fundraiser

The Chick-fil-A off of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Atlanta is used to dealing with the morning rush as one of the busier franchises in the area. But this morning was a little different.“Get ready for some milkshakes,” former President Donald Trump told Chick-fil-A staff on Wednesday, surprising customers with a drop-in while on the way to a fundraising luncheon in the city.

The interaction, which quickly went viral across social media, showed Trump buying 30 milkshakes and “some chicken” for customers and supporters.

One moment at the fast-food restaurant has caught special attention among conservatives on X , formerly Twitter: Some banter between a Trump and a supporter. Pundits thought the woman, who is Black, was referencing her race as she encouraged the former president, “I don’t care what the media tells you, Mr. Trump, we support you!”

Chick-fil-A visit marks Trump's second in Georgia this year

Today’s visit marks the second time Trump has come to Georgia in a little over a month, showing that the state will once again be an important battleground in the 2024 presidential election.

Prep for the polls: See who is running for president and compare where they stand on key issues in our Voter Guide

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution , the fundraiser cost $6,600 to attend, with an additional $25,000 fee per couple for a photo opportunity with the 45th president. Those expected to be in attendance included former U.S. Senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, as well as prominent figures of the Georgia business sector, including Bernie Marcus of Home Depot and poultry industry billionaire Tommy Bagwell.

In all, the fundraiser was expected to rake in more than $5 million for the embattled candidate, who currently owes nearly $470 million for his various legal troubles , including cases over hush money and election fraud.

But at his stop before the fundraiser, the former president appeared more interested in the chicken he was about to be served. “That’s the Lord’s chicken,” Trump quipped.

Chicago mass shooting leaves 8-year-old girl dead, 10 others injured

Chicago police believe gang-related violence led to the fatal shooting of an 8-year-old girl that also left 10 others injured Saturday night in the city’s South Side.

According to police, the shooting took place near 52nd St. and South Damen Ave. at approximately 9:18 p.m. An 8-year-old girl was killed from a gunshot wound to the head, while two boys — 1 and 7 years old — were critically injured after being shot multiple times.

Deputy Police Chief Don Jerome said police aided in response efforts for the other eight victims, ranging in age from 19 to 40, by applying tourniquets and chest seals.

The victims were reportedly standing outside at a family gathering. A statement released by the Chicago Police Department said a witness saw a black sedan approach the scene when the shots rang out into the crowd. All victims were escorted to local hospitals around the area by the Chicago Fire Department.

“This was not a random act of violence. It was likely gang-related,” Jerome said. “Regardless of the motivation for this incident, three innocent children were struck tonight and one of them tragically succumbed to her wounds. The offenders’ actions, make no mistake, are horrific and unacceptable in our city.”

Area One detectives are still investigating the incident and no arrests have been made.
