One of the glitziest hotels in the city, the Four Seasons Al Maryah Island definitely stands out. Its distinctive vertical exterior draws the eye and it offers some of the best views of 'old' Abu Dhabi and the dome-shaped Louvre museum. The hotel’s trademark aesthetic is impressive as is the elaborate two-level spa.

Al Maryah island provides a link between the city and Saadiyat Island which means that a trip to the cultural precinct and Saadiyat Beach Club takes just 10 minutes by car. The 200-room property adjoins the upscale Galleria Mall shopping centre and fronts onto a waterfront walkway that's home to many great restaurants and bars. There’s plenty of pedestrian access and the international airport is 27 miles away.

Style and Character

Slick and stylish. The marble-and-glass laden lobby with its fresh flowers, chandeliers and local artworks is an impressive introduction to the 34-storey hotel. With 48 different kinds of marble throughout, the Al Maryah property certainly fits the Four Seasons mould.

Service and Facilities

The staff are welcoming and switched on. They are attentive without being overbearing and greet repeat customers warmly. The rooftop pool is one of the best spots onsite even if it’s a bit open and showy for me, and Dahlia Spa, with its eight treatment rooms, two-floor set-up and luxurious wet areas is one of the best in the city.

My Deluxe one-bedroom suite is airy and luxurious but disappointing when it comes to the view. There's a big comfy bed and beautiful bathroom, but no balcony or opening windows. I find the lighting controls on the electronic tablet slightly confusing and the absence of hooks in the bathroom a functional oversight. Of the four room categories and various suite categories within the hotel the Superior is the standard and differs from the higher categories due to floor space and the view.

Food and Drink

There are three main restaurants and three lounges and bars to enjoy. The Eclipse Terrace Lounge, located beside the rooftop pool, is the best spot for a sunset drink – there's a two for one happy hour offer between 4pm and 7pm daily. Butcher & Still has become one of the most popular steakhouses in the city and it's easy to see why. The old-school Chicago feel and specially selected cuts of American beef make it a quality experience. The 21-day aged Tomahawk bone-in rib-eye steak is the most expensive dish on the menu (AED 420/£88) while appetisers cost from AED 65 (£14). The indoor-outdoor set-up at Cafe Milano is one of its biggest drawcards. The restaurant is ideal for an evening filled with Italian flavour and personality or an intimate meal. The only international branch outside of the one in Washington DC, the food here is delicious and the service on point – think handmade pastas, fresh seafood and crusty pizzas. Prices start from AED 70 (£14).

The full buffet breakfast (AED 145/£30) is served in Crust and it's packed full of dishes and stations. Choose from fruit and cereals, breads and pastries, Arabic dishes like foul medames and saj, cold meats and cheeses, and eggs offered a number of ways. Al Meylas and Zsa Zsa are ideal spots for a coffee and a snack.

On April 24, 2024, the MICHELIN Guide revealed the brand new list of One, Two, and Three Key hotels in the United States. In this first ever announcement of MICHELIN Keys in the United States, hotels in Atlanta, California, Chicago, Colorado, Florida, New York, and Washington DC were eligible for the distinction. This announcement of the most outstanding hotels in the country comes four years into a comprehensive refresh of our hotel selection. The MICHELIN Guide now includes over 5,000 hotels across the world, and not a single one is simply a room for the night. These are places that significantly add to your experience as a traveler, each vetted and judged excellent in five categories: architecture and interior design, quality and consistency of service, overall personality and character, value for the price, and a significant contribution to the guest experience in a particular setting. The Three Key Club in New York City

Expect: The highest luxury and impeccable design in Soho, Midtown, and the Financial District. Within the small club of Three Key hotels in the United States, four make their home in New York City.
