It was very funny, some of it slapstick and some of it off the cuff. However, please note, the bus is not air conditioned and the seats very hard, In addition, when it is cold, it only has roll down plastic windows. Unfortunately because the parking is difficult to maneuver we were last on the bus and got the “wheel” seat, One of two where there is a large bump so that your knees are in your lap. When we stopped at the brewery we bought a can of white wine, one beer and one root beer for $23.50!! this is more entertainment than sightseeing, just so you know. WE have also taken the hop on and off bus. That is much more informative, but not nearly as funny. This was not an adults only tour and we had young teenagers on board. The perfect blend of historical and hysterical, LaZoom Comedy Bus Tours welcome visitors aboard the company’s signature purple buses to drive around downtown and surrounding neighborhoods for a look at the city’s history, beer culture, ghosts and more. Along the way, you’ll meet zany characters and enjoy lots of laughter. LaZoom offers four tour options: the popular 90-minute Asheville City Tour (appropriate for ages 13 and older), a one-hour haunted comedy tour (ages 17 and older), a three-hour brewery tour (ages 21 and older) and a one-hour Kids Comedy Tour that’s suitable for all ages.

Both visitors and locals love these one-of-a-kind tours. Reviewers rave about the funny, witty guides and characters you interact with along the way. Locals call LaZoom a great way to introduce out-of-town guests to Asheville.

All LaZoom Tours depart from the LaZoom Room in downtown Asheville. If you don’t luck out with street parking, a parking lot on-site costs $3 per hour, or you can park at the Aloft Hotel parking garage just down the street. Tours run daily; exact times vary by tour. This is definitely not your typical tour bus experience. LaZoom is Asheville's only rolling comedy tour bus with a side-splitting guided tour to Asheville's favorite neighborhoods and landmarks that spell quirky fun for both first-time visitors and long-time residents. The big purple bus is hard to miss—especially when it's chased by a nun on a giant bike!

LaZoom offers four different tour options (read more below). Tours run all year, and all depart from downtown Asheville . Tours run Thursday-Sunday at half capacity (a total of 18 people per bus).  Read more about LaZoom’s safety procedures before booking.  Each tour features a knowledgeable and witty tour guide, a heavy dose of corny jokes, and slapstick characters all along the way. Enjoy an innovative and clever blend of fact, fiction, and fun, with surprises all along the way.

LaZoom Tours on the Purple Bus: 5 Options + Seasonal Tours 

• Hey Asheville: City Comedy Tour is a historical and hysterical introduction to Asheville and its most interesting neighborhoods. The 90-minute tour has a 10-minute break at Green Man Brewing in the South Slope Brewing District, where you can buy a beer to enjoy on the tour. Adults ages 13 and up only. ($39/person)
• Ghosted: Bus Comedy Tour  features Asheville's sordid past. Spooky guides uncover mysteries and tell chilling tales on this 60-minute night tour. You will see ghosts! It departs at dusk. Adults 17 and up only. ($33/person)
• Fender Bender: Band and Beer Bus is a party on wheels with live music and 45-minute stops at two of the top breweries in Asheville. Your MC will entertain with fun facts about the local beer scene. The 2.5-hour tour runs Saturdays at 1:30 PM and 5:30 PM and some Fridays at 5:30 PM for adults 21 and up. Book well in advance since they often sell out! ($49/person)
• Lil’ Boogers: Kids’ Comedy Tour  is for all ages with entertainment geared to kids aged 5-12. The 60-minute tour is a show on wheels. Runs on Saturdays. Kids aged 3 and under are free. ($27/person)

Tickets You can purchase tickets three ways:  online , over the telephone, or upon boarding (if space is available). Buying tickets in advance online or reserving over the telephone with a credit card is the only way to reserve seating—and many tours sell out. Online tickets and telephone reservations are taken until two hours before departure.

Tips: Arrive at least 10 minutes early. Before you hop on, you can grab a snack or beer to enjoy on the ride. LaZoom is an open-air bus unless it's too cold - then they close the windows and turn on the heat. Some have enjoyed dressing in their finest frocks and feathers to be seen parading through Asheville on the lovely purple bus! Bring your camera.

For parking, the best option is the city's Biltmore Avenue parking garage across the street at the Aloft Hotel, GPS address is 60 South Lexington Avenue.

LaZoom Room:  All tours start at their funky bar at 76 Biltmore Avenue with wine and local beer to enjoy before. The LaZoom Room is reserved only for ticket holders.

Private Group Tour Rentals Rent the entire bus for a group of up to 20 people. It's perfect for a family reunion, wedding, or other special event. Use your imagination! I've done two La Zoom tours now and absolutely loved both of them. The actors are hilarious and it really is a nonstop show for the full 90 min. Lots of unexpected surprises to keep you entertained. We'll be back!

I kind of stumbled on La Zoom while looking for the prototypical tour and I'm so glad I did. We had a blast riding around on the decked out school bus hearing embellished ghost stories. The staff are very talented and good at improvisation. You can buy alcohol to take on the bus but you will be reminded copious amounts of times to finish it on the bus due to liquor laws. One thing I will say is if it's winter time when you take your tour be sure to have your coat, hat, and gloves.

Such a fun comedy tour. Had some of the canned wine and it wasn't bad either! Had a great time and great laughs. Highly recommend.

I can't understand the high reviews for this tour. We took the Ghosted - one hour, night tour (7:30 pm). For your ticket, you got driven around Asheville, with beers and wine in hand (if you purchased them from LaZoom) and enjoyed a live performance of a show while seated in an open air bus. The host was a "murdered girl ghost" and her acting was amazing. Somehow she was able to tell a few ghost stories while the bus was moving, and timed with with other "characters" running on/off the bus in the streets and neighborhoods. Overall, the execution was really good. Maybe I am not good with the "f-bomb" humor and it was hard to catch all the lines since the bus was so loud. Value (2/5): At $37 per person, this was way too much to pay. I would have been more comfortable with a $20 price tag. Service (5/5): The hosts inside LaZoom were super nice, the guide was great too. No complaints. Atmosphere (4/5): Before the ride, there was a really nice lounge area with large comfy seats and stuffed cats, which makes for a great pics. Is it sad that this was best part of the ride?

We celebrated my husband's 50th birthday on the Fender Bender Band & Beer Bus. We had an AMAZING time. The band was hot and the beer was cold. Our group was made up of out of town and home town folks. Everyone had a great time. Andrew did a fabulous job as our tour guide. I can not say enough good things about the day. The band was awesome. We all sang along and had the best time. Thanks to Michelle for getting us all set up! Don't miss out on LaZoom. You will not regret it.

It was VERY entertaining with great little tidbits & talking points as you are driven around Asheville with Cookie singing, telling jokes, & giving loads of information with great little surprises along the way. I HIGHLY recommend!!!

We had a great time on the comedy tour! TB was very funny and entertaining and we'd highly suggest this attraction for anyone visiting Asheville!

This is the #1 thing that I do when friends come in. It's unexpected, quirky, fun fun fun. There are a few tours, and each one is fab. You can wait in the LaZoom Room with your rubber chicken, and if you're lucky enough you might get to meet the owners who are super sweet and fun. LaZoooooom!

My friends and I did this last night and it was a lot of fun! Cute and well put together. A good first night activity to start our trip. Thank you!

After 12 months, LaZoom comedy bus tours to start back up in Asheville

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — LaZoom Tours, one of Asheville's most popular guided comedy tours, has announced its purple bus will be back in action beginning April 1, after a 12-month hiatus due to the pandemic.

The company branched out with walking "ghost" tours in September, but it's now ready to get locals and tourists alike back on the comedy bus tours.

Many COVID-19 safety precautions will be in place, beginning with only 50% capacity on the bus. That means just 20 people at a time can ride.

"We’ve spent the long winter months scheming up the best way to make our tours safe from COVID-19," reads a statement on LaZoom's website.

Employees have also been working on script updates and will have new content for tour-goers.

Further COVID-19 precautions include: No outside beer or wine will be allowed on the bus; instead, beverages must be purchased from LaZoom or at a designated LaZoom stop. Coolers will also be prohibited on the bus.

Bus windows will be open at all times to allow for air flow, and plexiglass will separate each bus seat.

Masks will be required when entering and exiting the bus and at the LaZoom Room, located at 76 Biltmore Avenue in Asheville.

What's a groovy tour?

A fun-filled vintage van ride, with expertly curated 60s and 70s music. You will travel in and around Downtown Asheville and based on passenger input we tailor the drive through varied sights and attractions, from the river Arts district, to Grove Park, to funky West Asheville, as well as the many beautiful (and hip!) neighborhoods adjacent to downtown.

Our History

Having lived and worked as a physical therapist in Asheville for 30 years, I found myself, like many other healthcare professionals, overwhelmed and “burning out” as the COVID 19 pandemic ravaged our community. Increasingly, I found myself waking up with the same thought, that I loved what I did but  that maybe it was someone else’s turn to take care of my patients. I decided to open up a new chapter in my life. The idea of operating a groovy bus tour business in Asheville wasn’t a new one, just one that I hadn’t given myself permission to explore as a real business. I think you can understand how “real life “ of kids, jobs, mortgages often put “dreams” on the back burner. 

But I made a decision to follow this long held dream. My wife had seen me look at 1000s of VW buses for sale without buying one and heard endless stories of how much I loved driving the 1972 VW camper I had when the kids were young. Well I finally made the leap, bought a beautifully restored 1974 VW bus and now I am “all-in”.  The “destination” is to develop a successful business, but it’s the journey that lifts my soul everyday and that is everything to me at this point in my life. I am definitely “in the groove” and if you want that same groovy feeling, the Groovy Bus can take you there too..

It requires one to let go of non- groovy feelings and worries. That being said, being inside a vintage van, listening to groovy music, in the beautiful town of Asheville, will greatly improve your chances of finding your groovy self.

You cant “think” your way into grooviness- the spirit has to move you!

In and around downtown Asheville as well as various other groovy spots like west Asheville , the River Arts District, the Grove Park and the many hip neighborhoods along the way.

Start to finish our tours are an hour and a half with a least an hour of drive time and a short photo opportunity stop along the way.

Due to safety considerations in general, though particularly because we use 2-point “lap belts, not 3-point seat belts on our vintage buses, children must be 10 years to ride the Groovy bus.

Please Note: You may cancel your reservation up to 72 hours before your scheduled tour and get a full amount refund. If you cancel 24-72 hours before the hours before the departure date, you will be refunded 50% of your purchase price or you can reschedule your trip. If you cancel within 24 hours or are a “no show”, we cannot refund your ticket price. If a trip is canceled by Groovy Asheville Tours because of bad weather or any other unforeseen reason, we will gladly refund your booking fully.

I acknowledge that the enjoyment and excitement of the proposed form of tour is derived in part from the inherent risks incurred by travel and activity beyond the accepted safety of life at home or work, and these inherent risks contribute to such enjoyment and excitement, being a reason for my participation. I agree that if I suffer injury or illness Groovy Asheville Tours or its Staff can, at my cost, arrange any medical treatment and emergency evacuation service as it or they deem necessary for my health and safety.

I understand that photographs taken on this tour may only be used for non-commercial or personal purposes. Using photographs for commercial purposes without acquiring permission is strictly prohibited.

Further, I agree at all times during the tour, to abide by and comply with any additional instructions given by my tour guide or any other Staff and I accept that non-compliance may result in injury, death or permanent disability. I understand that non-compliance may result in my removal from the bus tour.

In entering this Waiver and Release, I am not relying on any oral, written nor visual representations or statements by Groovy Asheville Tours or its Staff or any other inducement or coercion to go on the bus tour. Groovy Asheville tours, LLC reserves the right to refuse ridership to anyone the driver deems a safety risk to themselves or other passengers based on observed behavior and interactions with passenger or staff. Passengers visibly intoxicated or under the influence displaying unsafe or anti-social behaviours will not be allowed on the bus initially and will be asked to disembark at any point during the tour. There will be no refunds for riders refused or ask to leave the bus during the tour for the reasons above.

Entering and exiting the bus requires a passenger have ability to step onto and off of the bus safely. To this end our bus has a well-secured step to use for this purpose and the driver will assist any passenger requiring such help. Anyone unable to safely board the bus will of course be given a full refund

We did the Rates R Funny Bus Tour and it was definitely worth it. Ill gladly do it again with anyone new who comes to town. I was able to learn a little more about Charlotte in a humorous way. I also loved that I was able to see places Ive never been to before so I can write them down and try them out. Awesome tour!

BYOB bar on wheels? Are You Kidding? Sign Me Up, Please. I laughed so hard I was rolling in my seat. Seriously, My cheeks hurt, and had to gently massage them at the end of the tour. I could tell that Brandon, our tour guide/comedian, really enjoy & love what he do — and he’s good at it too!  

I went with a friend who was visiting CLT for the first time as well as two other friends that had been here their entire lives. This tour was a blast for everybody involved. I was impressed by all the places we were able to see and learned a bunch of fun facts about the Queen City. JJ did a great job of keeping everybody engaged as well as laughing from start to finish. Safe to say that I will be doing this again. 

Had a great time learning about Charlotte. Roxanne kept us entertained and interested. It’s a great way to spend a portion of an afternoon at a reasonable price.

My husband and I visited Charlotte for the first time last weekend and took the funny bus tour with some friends. We had an awesome time! What a great way to get the feel of a new city… some history, seeing the neighborhoods, and the sports arenas and lots of laughs!! Both our tour guide and driver were great. The length of the tour seemed perfect.. and we also loved the pit stop at the brewery to refresh and stretch your legs for a minute. The Bus was clean and comfortable. Great way to spend a couple hours and get to know the surroundings!
