Galveston Cruise Terminal 10 Sailing Guide (Location, Parking, Photos, & More)

Cruise Terminal 10 at the Port of Galveston marks the biggest leap in cruising from the island since it became a regular departure point roughly two decades ago.

Cruise Terminal 10 on Galveston Island

Through a $125 million partnership between the port and Royal Caribbean, the state of the art terminal opened in late 2022 to much fanfare. And it’s easy to understand why. On its own the terminal is open, airy, and beautifully designed. It marks a great way to start your cruise. But compare Cruise Terminal 10 to the other two terminals in Galveston, and the difference is even more impressive.

Add to that the fact that with the new dedicated Royal Caribbean terminal the cruise line placed its largest class of ships on the island. The Oasis-class vessels aren’t just larger (holding upwards of 6,000 passengers at double occupancy). They offer an experience that’s unrivaled in the amount of things you can see, do, and experience onboard. Whether you want to zipline across a cruise ship or just take a quiet stroll in a lush, green park, it’s possible on these ships.

All this is to say that Cruise Terminal 10 is without a doubt a major addition to Galveston cruising. But with the new terminal also come a lot of new changes, including everything from the terminal location to where to park. For everything to know, we have you covered.

Cruise Terminal 10 Location

The first thing that you should know — especially if you’ve sailed from Galveston before — is that the terminal is not located right next to the older cruise terminals. So if you’ve sailed on a Royal Caribbean cruise in the old terminal, you’ll need to go to a different spot.

Cruise Terminal 10 sits about a mile east of the other terminals. The entrance is at the intersection of Harborside Drive and Royal Caribbean Way (which is 14th Street south of Harborside).

If driving to the port, the address to use is 1152 Royal Caribbean Way . For other transportation options to Cruise Terminal 10, you can see our Galveston transportation page here .

Cruise Terminal 10 Photo Tour

If you’ve sailed from Galveston before but not Cruise Terminal 10, then prepared to be wowed.

The first thing that you’ll notice is the large blue façade with the massive Royal Caribbean logo sitting proudly at the center. On either side of the main terminal building are luggage drop-off areas and plenty of space to pull up and drop off passengers or baggage.

Interior shot of Terminal 10

Step inside the main terminal doors and you’re greeted by a large open atrium. At the center is another Royal Caribbean logo, flanked on either side by two massive video boards showing videos to get you excited about the cruise.

But the real centerpiece of this entrance are the two massive propellers suspended from the ceiling. (We don’t blame you if you’re a little hesitant to walk directly beneath them!)

On either side of the entrance is a stairway and escalators to the check-in area. Head up and you’ll reach the second floor of the terminal that leads to boarding the ship.

Once on the check-in level, you’ll be guided to an agent that will confirm your details, check any required documents and get your ready to board. From there, it’s a quick pass through security, and then you’re on your way to the ship.

galveston cruise parking royal caribbean

This embarkation hall is open and airy, with tons of seating just in case the ship isn’t ready for passengers just yet. Continue down the walkway and you’ll get your first glimpse of the ship. But before you head down the gangway to board, be sure to check out the “Galveston Beach Trio.”

This art installation of a band composed of a pelican, sea turtle, and crab is a great spot to grab a quick photo before you start your cruise.

Parking at Cruise Terminal 10

Driving in for your cruise? Then you’ll need a place to park your car. Galveston is known for having a number of parking options — including lots of independent lots that can help save you money .

In this case you can park at an independent lot, which can then shuttle you to the cruise port. However, the most convenient option will be parking at the on-site lots at the terminal that are operated by the Port of Galveston.

Along with the cruise terminal, four different parking lots were built that put you a short distance from the ship. The lots then offer a short shuttle over to the terminal or you can just walk. Each lot is close enough that walking is extremely easy. As well, there are newly constructed covered walkways between the lots and the terminal.

galveston cruise parking royal caribbean

The parking options at the terminal include:

  • Pier 14 Lot (Orange): $20 per day
  • South Lot (Green): $20 per day
  • North Lot (Pink): $22 per day
  • North Premium Lot (Yellow; Covered): $27 per day

All prices will have taxes and fees in addition. For example, parking at the Pier 14 Lot runs $153.55 for a one-week cruise. Major cards are accepted, but cash is not. If there is a certain lot that you want to park, it’s a good idea to reserve online ahead of time through the Port of Galveston to ensure that you get a space.

Want to save some money? You can find less expensive Galveston cruise parking elsewhere, but just keep in mind it may take longer to shuttle between the ship and your parking given the location of the terminal.

Picking Up/Dropping Off at the Terminal (Including Luggage)

Dropping off someone at the terminal? Or maybe you just want to unload those heavy suitcases before you park. Either way, it’s easy at the new terminal.

In this case, you’ll enter the terminal area at the intersection of Harborside and 14th Street/Royal Caribbean Way. Then, you can follow Royal Caribbean Way to Royal Caribbean Circle (and just follow the signage to the terminal). This will lead you right to the front of the terminal where you will see the large area for luggage drop-off. You can also drop passengers here.

There is also a second spot to drop passengers and luggage if you simply follow Royal Caribbean Way around the right side of the terminal. There you’ll find a loop that allows you to drop off and then head back toward the exit of the terminal area.

Transportation From the Terminal

galveston cruise parking royal caribbean

Need a ride from the terminal back home or to the airport? In that case, just like with dropping off, there are two different areas for pick-up. You’ll just need to communicate with your ride where to meet.

First there is the area right in front of the terminal entrance. This spot has numbered stations that should help you identify where you will be picked up.

The other area is on the east side of the terminal where larger shuttle buses park to shuttle passengers, but there are also lanes for picking up similar to what you see at an airport.

Need a taxi? During our cruise we saw a taxi stand with waiting cabs on Royal Caribbean Way, in between the North Lot and South Lot.

Interested in a rideshare? You should know that Lyft is allowed to pick up at the terminal, but Uber is not. If you want, you can walk outside of the terminal area to catch an Uber.

Complete Guide to Cruise Parking in Galveston Cruise Port

Galveston has several parking options at the cruise port, and we break them all down for you by price, location, and shuttle services.

Complete Guide to Cruise Parking in Galveston Cruise Port

Share this post:

Galveston is an excellent drive-to option for cruisers in Texas and its surrounding states. Driving to a cruise port can be a cheaper option for families than flying, but parking doesn’t have to cost a fortune.

Despite being a relatively small island, Galveston has several parking options in addition to the official parking facilities at the cruise port.

Most lots are concentrated around Galveston’s legacy terminals, Terminal 25 and 28, formerly Terminals 1 and 2. In 2022, Royal Caribbean built its own state-of-the-art cruise terminal called Pier 10, adding a third cruise pier to the Port of Galveston.

Complete Guide to Cruising out of Galveston Cruise Port - Complete Guide to Cruise Parking in Galveston Cruise Port

If you are departing on a Royal Caribbean cruise, keep in mind that you might not be within walking distance of most cruise parking lots if your ship is docked at Pier 10.

This guide breaks down your cruise parking options in Galveston by price, location, and shuttle services.

Port of Galveston Parking Lots

The official parking lots for each cruise terminal are not only close but straightforward. These lots are the only ones officially affiliated with Disney Cruise Line , Carnival Cruise Line , and Royal Caribbean , according to the website. Additionally, the Port of Galveston offers a disabled veterans program with reduced prices on cruise parking.

Price : Official cruise parking rates prior to taxes and fees for the economy lots are $65 for four days; $70 for five days; $80 for six days; $95 for seven days; and $110 for eight days. There is an increase of $15 to $25 per reservation for the express lot.

Location : Lot A and Lot B are the economy lots on 33 rd Street serving Terminals 25 and 28. An express lot is also located within walking distance of these terminals at 2702 Harborside Drive. There are two other express lots located at 2502 Harborside and 150 25 th Street.

Port parking for Royal Caribbean’s Pier 10 is onsite at the North Lot (1152 Royal Caribbean Way) or with shuttle service from the South Lot (1201 Royal Caribbean Way) or the Pier 14 Lot (1390 Royal Caribbean Way).

Lots A and B are 0.7 miles from their respective terminals. The Express lot is 0.2 miles or a five-minute walk from the cruise port. Royal Caribbean’s parking facilities are close to the pier.

Shuttle : The economy lots have a complimentary shuttle service.

Galveston Park N Cruise

This family-owned parking facility offers secure, indoor and outdoor parking. Rates vary by dates and occupancy. The Park N Cruise is currently available to cruisers sailing with Carnival Cruise Line and Princess Cruises.

Price : Prepaid rates run from $14.30 per day for a seven-night cruise ($100); $15.20 per day for a five-night cruise; and $17.50 per day for a four-night cruise. Indoor parking rates are an additional $3 per day.

Location : The Park N Cruise lot is located on New Strand Street, just 500 feet from the cruise port. It’s a two-minute walk from the cruise terminal.

Shuttle : No shuttles are available; guests can simply walk across the street from the parking lot to access their cruise if they depart from Terminals 25 or 28.

Why You Should Take a Ruby Princess Cruise to Alaska

Discount Cruise Parking

This parking lot boasts palm trees, a “tiki pirate theme,” grass huts and reggae music to put cruisers into an island vibe before they even reach the cruise port. Discount Cruise accommodates passengers on most departures, including Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Princess, and Disney ships.

Price : Rates are dynamic depending on ship and sail date. We found parking for weeklong cruises to be about $85 ($12.14 per night). Every online reservation has a $2 service fee.

Location : Discount Cruise Parking is located at 433 33 rd Street, 0.7 miles from the main cruise port.

Shuttle : Free shuttles run every 15 minutes to and from the parking lot to the cruise terminal.

Cruise Park

Cruise Park offers some of the cheapest per-night rates around. However, the lot does not accommodate parking for Royal Caribbean cruises, as the cruise line’s Pier 10 is located more than a mile away.

Cruise Park is only open on Saturdays and Sundays. At time of publication, Galveston Cruise Parking serves Carnival Dream, Carnival Vista, and Ruby Princess.

Price : Seven nights of cruise parking is $74.25 on the Cruise Park website ($10.61 per night).

Location : Galveston Cruise Parking is located at 2815 Harborside Drive, 0.3 miles from cruise terminals 25 and 28.

Shuttle : There is no shuttle service provided. It’s a five- to seven-minute walk along New Strand to the pedestrian crosswalk at 25 th and Harborside where passengers can cross to Terminals 25 and 28.

Lighthouse Parking

The Lighthouse Parking facility supports passengers sailing Carnival or Royal Caribbean only. Parking facilities are elevated, covered, and monitored 24/7.

Price : A four-night uncovered, prepaid parking space in Lot 1 for a Carnival cruise is $70 ($17.50 per night) or $120 for a covered space ($30 per night).

The same length of four nights is $80 for Royal Caribbean cruisers in an uncovered space in Lot 3 ($20 per night) or $100 for a covered space ($25 per night.)  Surcharges might apply to vehicles with more than five passengers.

Location : Lighthouse Parking is at 309 29 th Street, about a half-mile from Terminals 25 and 28 or 1.5 miles from Pier 10.

Shuttle : Free shuttle service is available from the lot to your cruise terminal. Be sure to keep your parking ticket, as it’s needed to board a return shuttle at the end of your voyage.

Carnival Adding Fourth Ship to Galveston

EZ Cruise Parking

EZ Cruise is just two blocks from Terminals 25 and 28. At the time of publication, EZ Cruise accommodates Carnival and Royal Caribbean cruisers looking for parking, as well as anyone booked on Disney Magic or Norwegian Prima.

When the lots are full for any given sail date, the EZ site will suggest affiliate parking lot Port Parking at 202 37 th Street.

Price : The range for EZ Parking is about $11 to $15 per day, depending on length of cruise and the option to rent a slip-on cover for your vehicle. If you’re a repeat cruiser, EZ Cruise Parking offers a loyalty program with an instant 10 percent off. Taxes and fees are not included in the price.

Location : EZ Cruise Parking is at 2727 Santa Fe Place, located 0.1 miles or a three-minute walk to the main cruise port. Royal Caribbean’s Pier 10 is about 1.5 miles away.

Shuttle : A shuttle is available and runs from about 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. from the lot to the terminal. However, you can select “no shuttle,” when booking, instead opting to walk to your ship and save about $20 on your reservation.

Falstaff Cruise Parking

Falstaff Cruise Parking is the farthest lot on this list from the port, at 1 mile. However, shuttle service is available from this 24/7-monitored parking facility.

Price : For a one-week cruise, gated parking costs $80 ($11.43 per day), while a covered indoor parking space costs $100 ($14.30 per day). In addition, there is a service fee added on that’s 8.5 percent of your total parking price.

Location : The Falstaff lot is at 3402 Church Street. It’s a four-minute shuttle ride to Terminals 25 and 28 or an eight-minute ride to Royal Caribbean’s Pier 10.

Shuttle : A colorful shuttle touting “drive in, cruise out” services the Falstaff Cruise Parking facility. Shuttles run on a loop all day, taking between 15 to 20 minutes to complete their round trip. While the shuttle rides are complimentary, Falstaff has bundled a portion of its shuttle fees into the price of parking.

Galveston Cruise Parking Tips

  • Not every parking lot accommodates every cruise line; check each website for details and hours.
  • Cash is not accepted at most lots, including the Port of Galveston. Book parking with a credit card and bring it with you.
  • Cruise lines recommend dropping off all passengers and luggage at the pier prior to parking, but nearly all shuttles accommodate luggage. If you have a larger party, you might be charged a fee for taking up more than a few seats on the shuttle.
  • An important caveat when it comes to cruise parking is that RVs and oversized vehicles are typically not allowed. When RVs are allowed at a cruise parking lot, the rates are higher than listed.
  • In addition to port-approved and third-party parking lots, long-term parking and shuttle service can be found in conjunction with many of Galveston’s hotels.

The cheapest cruise parking lot in Galveston for Royal Caribbean is : Discount Cruise Parking

Here’s a map of The Port’s Pier 10 parking lots.  North lot is the closest.  There is also a covered area - North lot Premium parking.  It is literally steps away from the terminal.  You can reserve your parking online at Portofgalveston.com

Any suggestions which lot for a ‘mature’ couple with far too many bags, please ??

54 minutes ago, Reina del Mar said: Thank you. Any suggestions which lot for a ‘mature’ couple with far too many bags, please ??

North lot at Pier 10.  Drive up to terminal and drop the bags with a porter (they came up to the cars when I had my last cruise) and then circle to enter North lot.    You can park all the way up until the covered parking.  (Didn’t know if you wanted to pay extra for premium covered parking for a rental car).  Real easy and convenient parking at Terminal 10 North Lot.

Hope you enjoy your stay in Texas, and your cruise out of Galveston

P.S.  reserve and prepay on the Port’s website, and you are emailed the reservation with a QR code.  Use it to enter the lot.

Many thanks.

We have a hotel with parking at the moment but I have read recently that taxis are difficult in Galveston these days. It’s booked on a fully refundable basis so we can cancel if necessary…and get a cheaper hotel !

North Lot is closest, and there's porters everywhere once you get to the pickup/dropoff area. It was so easy that we were honestly wondering if we'd accidentally left our bags with some kind of bag thief that afternoon.  🤣 It was a cold morning and all the porters were wearing sweaters over their uniforms.

Also, from what I've seen, a lot of hotels and motels in the area offer cruise parking and dropoff/pickup. So if you need to be taken right up to the terminal, that might work.

Either way you should have no issue getting help with your bags.

Haha

@ocean sounds gave an accurate description. We love the new RCCL parking lot at port of Galveston as well as the new terminal.  Plenty of parking for everyone. Definitely reserve in advance to secure your spot.

You can use uber or lyft to the terminal from the hotel which is what I do. I know uber isnt official at the port until may 1st but I have been already using it.

Many thanks.

We parked last week in lot 10 for the first time.  It was very easy.  I dropped the wife and bags off at the drop off area and parked.  However, when we came back Thursday it was pouring rain.  That meant that we both had to roll our bags out the exit door of the terminal, around the building to the covered area in front of the terminal where I had dropped her off.  Not a big deal but I did learn that there are areas of the parking lot that hold 3 inches of water.  As I walked to my truck I got my shoes and pants legs very wet.  I probably could have just gone around the standing water but I wasn’t paying attention and it was raining pretty hard.  Once I got in the truck I just pulled around and picked the wife up without a problem.  We went straight to Katie’s fresh seafood and got 3 lbs. of fresh shrimp to take home.  Yes, bring an empty ice chest.

Does anyone know if there are any discounts and if so what is the promo code please?  Thanks so much

markpark

We have reserved North Lot at Terminal 10, Voyager of the Seas.  We tend to pack light and self-disembark.  We have always used the porters and waited for our bags.  With light luggage and parking in North Lot, can I skip the porters and handle our bags ourselves on embarkation also?  Rooms will probably be ready by the time we embark.  We could get started unpacking quicker.

I was not able to find a discount code that worked.

Thank you  for trying.  I had another reply on a different post that said they offer a $5 discount for signing up for their loyalty program and in April they had a code on Facebook.  Checking there next.   Thanks neighbor!

Thanks

Yes, you can carry your bags on if you want.  Depending on your boarding time, you might consider how important unpacking early is compared to the inconvenience of toting the bags around and finding a place for them if you decide to eat or sit by the pool.  Not for us but to each their own.

These replies are all so helpful...but is this just for Rc cruises??  We are going out on Carnival.  Same parking places?

Not the same location and I’m not sure there is very much, if any, terminal parking down there.  Before the new RC terminal and associated parking they docked right next to where Carnival still does.  We always used Falstaff Cruise Parking.

https://falstaffcruiseparking.com

Indoor and the shuttles are fairly prompt.  My only real complaint was the dusty floors inside the garage.  Theres a lot of street construction all around them and it’s very dusty.  The wheels on our suitcases were always filthy when we got home.  But still our favorite place to park other than the new RC lots.

No more construction

I hope they make an effort to clean things up some.  It’s really a pretty nice facility for parking other than the dirt.

The road construction is nearly done and HOPEFULLY, they'll be able to sweep up soon. AGREE that the amount of Galveston we bring home every trip is a bit much. Still my favorite vendor.

Too late for me but I got this announcement today from the Port of Galveston:

"Save $10 on a reservation at ANY Port of Galveston cruise parking lot using promo code SUMMER23. Discount code good through June 30 on any future reservation."

Just booked North lot for our November 2023 cruise and didn't see any options for North Lot premium or the VIP lot. Are those booked full through April (yes I tried every sailing from Nov through Apr)? Or, is there some other trick to getting access to those lots? I'm not thrilled about leaving my car uncovered.

Around Falstaff it is cleaned up

We have a reservation for parking at Pier 14.  Is that walking distance to RCCL?

Galveston Texas Hotel with Shuttle & Parking

Galveston Hotels with Free Shuttle to Port and Cruise Parking

Galveston Hotel with cruise shuttle

The island has been shaped by the wind and waves of the Gulf, leaving it with a 32-mile-long stretch of beach while the historic districts of Galveston are dotted with charming examples of Victorian architecture.

Galveston is the perfect place for a few days vacation before or after your cruise.

Rather than parking at the port we recommend you stay at a local hotel and take a stress-free transfer to the port. Many hotels offer cheap deals . This way you can relax before and after your cruise as well as enjoying the historic attractions and beaches of Galveston.

Galveston covers a compact area and a shuttle or taxi cab fare to the port should never cost more than $10 – $15 dollars per person.

Several hotels, however, offer their own shuttle service to the port . Very often, this is complimentary especially if you choose to park at the hotel. Other times it should cost no more than a few dollars.

We suggest you select the best Galveston cruise hotel that meets your travel needs first – for size, price, location, and amenities and then organize your transportation to the Galveston cruise terminal .

To help you decide we have put together a list of 17 Galveston tx hotels.

11 Reason To Sail on Cruises From Galveston

I n no uncertain terms, a cruise port makes all the difference regarding your entire vacation. After all, the location of your departure sets the tone for your trip moving forward, determining which destinations you’ll reach once you’re on the high seas.

While specific destinations like Miami or Canaveral boast unique strengths, something might also be said for the Port of Galveston, Texas. A smaller port overlooking the Gulf of Mexico, Galveston may not be the largest or busiest destination from which to depart. Yet, there are plenty of amicable reasons to look into this idyllic Texan island for your next cruise-going experience.

1. Carnival, Royal Caribbean, and Disney Offer Cruises From Galveston

Looking at it plainly, Galveston has three cruise terminals making up its port. In contrast, far larger alternatives, like the Port of Miami, have eleven terminals. Because of this, Galveston unfortunately cannot house many of the industry’s prestigious cruise lines. However, the port’s terminals support several large-scale cruise corporations, with Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Princess, Norwegian, MSC, and Disney Cruises departing from Galveston regularly.

2. The Nearby Cruise Destinations Are Well Worth It

Admittedly, inevitable drawbacks are attached to cruises from Galveston. Considering how much farther west it is than ports in Florida or along the East Coast, most cruise lines out of Galveston cannot travel to their company’s private islands as many are in the Eastern Caribbean. However, Galveston’s location along the Gulf of Mexico has its distinct perks, including ready access to the Western Caribbean and parts of South and Central America. Though some guests might regret losing a chance at CocoCay, it’s hard to be upset when trekking along the shores of Mexico, Honduras, or Belize.

3. It’s Easier To Navigate Than Larger Ports

There’s no simple answer when it comes to determining the total cost of cruises from Galveston over any other port in the U.S. Like most ports, the final cost of the cruise depends on numerous factors, including the time of year you’re sailing, the location of your cabin, and the cruise line you plan on traveling with. However, the convenience of navigating the port itself makes Galveston a perfect option for anyone new to cruise vacations. Avoiding the large-scale crowds and tedious boarding lines as other major ports, Galveston remains a hassle-free destination for most novice travelers out there.

Baby, It's Cold Outside! 12 Warm Destinations to Escape to This Winter

4. galveston is conveniently located in the central u.s..

Given Galveston’s distinct location in eastern Texas , it’s one of the most readily accessible ports for travelers across the U.S. Located in the heart of America, travelers from the Western U.S. will have just as easy time reaching it as vacationers from the Midwest or East Coast. After all, who wants to sit on a lengthy plane ride to reach their port of call? Also, Galveston lacks the same high value of traffic as Miami or other popular ports, making it relatively hassle-free to reach.

5. The Port Terminal Is Reasonably Close to the Airport

Houston’s William P. Hobby Airport is the closest airport to Galveston. Roughly 41 miles northwest of the port, travelers can easily navigate from the airport to their cruise terminal in under an hour. Galveston is also close to several major cities, making it an option, albeit a farther one, for anyone flying into Austin or Dallas. However, given Houston’s short driving distance to Galveston, William P. Hobby Airport is your best bet for air travel.

6. The Boarding Process Is Quick and Seamless

As mentioned above, Galveston doesn’t have the same volume of passengers flooding through its port as Miami, Canaveral, or Port Everglades. As a result, boarding a ship is comparatively tamer—especially since the port opened up its third and latest terminal in 2022. Having been constructed in the past two decades and carefully refurbished, these terminals are in fantastic shape, making the onboarding process much more efficient for vacationers. The terminals also come equipped with innovative new features, with Terminal 3 offering mobile check-in and state-of-the-art facial recognition devices.

7. There Are Plenty of Hotels Nearby

Another notable feature of Galveston is the number of hotels near the port. (Because let’s face it: what’s more accessible than simply waking up, hopping in your car, and practically walking onto the ship without worrying about losing track of time?) What’s more, many of the hotels in the Galveston area have special offers for anyone traveling onboard a cruise ship. These offers include free or discounted parking rates and a helpful shuttle that ferry passengers back and forth from the hotel to the ship. While several hotels in Galveston have these amenities, some of the best include the Hilton Galveston Island Resort and the San Luis Resort .

8. Parking Is Easy

Don’t let Galveston’s size fool you—the port itself has plenty of options when it comes to parking. As previously suggested, anyone staying at a nearby hotel might want to consider leaving their car parked there and taking a shuttle, taxi, or Uber over to their terminal. Additionally, travelers can reserve a space in the port’s parking lot ahead of their trip. These parking spaces are safe and secure, and port employees will assist with any luggage brought aboard on cruises from Galveston.

9. Galveston Itself Is a Beautiful Place To Visit

The main reason we believe you should depart from Galveston on your next cruise is the opportunity you’ll have to see what it has to offer. Like most major cities, there’s plenty to do and see around town, with every prospective sight catering to travelers’ interests. For those interested in shopping, the Strand Historical District has plenty of independently owned stores that feature everything from odd tchotchkes to essential beach items. Galveston’s famous Moody Gardens is an educational park built around natural wonders such as exotic sea life, immaculate flowers, roaming monkeys, and sloths.

10. You’re Bound To Find Some Great Last-Minute Deals

As previously mentioned, Galveston is a more scaled-down port than Miami or Port Canaveral, but its three terminals still receive cruise ships constantly. Because of this constantly moving schedule, most travelers will find it incredibly easy to find last-minute deals on select cruises from Galveston—often days before the ship is booked to leave. Sure, it may not be practical for those traveling from longer distances to book something last-minute. Yet these last-minute deals are well worth it for anyone within a short distance of Galveston.

11. Galveston Is Steeped in Rich Maritime History

Galveston is a city rich in history, having first been settled by Indigenous Natives of the Akokisa and Karankawa tribes before the Europeans arrived in the 1600s. Over the next several centuries, Galveston became a hub for maritime trade, eventually attracting such notable figures as French buccaneer Jean Lafitte. All that being said, history buffs will delight at the chance to visit Galveston, taking in some of the numerous historical sights around town—like Lafitte’s personal hideaway at Maison Rouge or the Michael B. Menard House, named after one of Galveston’s original American settlers. Even those who don’t care for history will find these areas fascinating.
