Situated midway between the beaches of the Black Sea coast and the sprawling Bulgarian capital at Sofia, Plovdiv’s amalgamation of exquisite Eastern architecture, enthralling cultural exhibitions, raw history, exciting nightlife and Balkan warmth strikes a neat balance between the hedonism of the seaside resorts and the urban energy of the country’s largest metropolitan hub. What instantly hits most first-time visitors here is the exquisite and startlingly well-preserved historical veneer, centred on the winding web of cobbled roadways that converge on Old Plovdiv; a place where an ancient Roman amphitheatres rubs shoulders with sights like the Ottoman Dzumaya Mosque and the gorgeous St. Marina Orthodox Church. Perhaps the best way to take it all in would be a walking tour covering its comprehensive museums and landmarks, punctuated by breaks at the lovely bohemian cafes along the way. Then there’s new Plovdiv and the surrounding districts, comprised of leafy parks, lingering monuments to Soviet Realism and lively Balkan shopping streets. What’s more, if you’re interested in exploring the greater region of south-central Bulgaria, then this one’s the perfect base. Be sure to ask your Plovdiv tour guide about tips on reaching the formidable crumbling remnants of Assenova Krepost, or the aged, mysterious mountain monastery of Bachkovo—one of the oldest centres of Orthodox monks in all of Europe!

Plamena used to be an architect. Then, 7 years ago, came to Plovdiv for a little and still hasn’t left. She now teaches the Bulgarian language to foreigners and works as a tour guide to share all the reasons why she loves the city.
Niki is a travel enthusiast who always comes back to her beloved Plovdiv. She is a first-generation local who only moved away to Sofia to get her law degree.
Mila was born in Plovdiv and it was her passion for languages and cultures that determined her career path – apart from being a tour guide, she teaches English at the Plovdiv University and works as a translator and proofreader.
Velis is a local. He’s also a professional musician – the one in the symphony orchestra with tuxedo or tails. He loves motorcycles and of course he loves nice beer – chillin’ in the spirit of Aylak!
Alex was born and raised in a small town on the cost of the Danube river. He moved to Plovdiv because of the rich culture that the city had to offer, and fell in love with it at first sight.
Being born in Plovdiv and then growing up in the USA, Nenko utilizes the best of both cultures to present a tour which is both amusing and informative. In his free time he plays with music and studies molecular biology.
Iliya is born and raised in Plovdiv, lived all his life so far in the city. He’s always dreamt about being on stage, and is forever in love with his hometown. He enjoys playing the guitar, talking about history, philosophy and life.
Dani’s a guide for the two projects that our organization has in Plovdiv. He considers himself half- local as he has spent one third of his life in Plovdiv. He is a teacher on the side, or a guide on the side of being a teacher, he can’t decide himself. According to the people around him, he is a positive, talkative young man with a peculiar sense of humor. Thus If you don’t get it at first you’ll have the whole tour to get used to it! Furthermore, the hills of Plovdiv are his passion for many reasons. For instance, since he prefers to practice his hobbies outdoors, sometimes he ends up doing sports or playing music on top of a hill. Finally, even though Dani likes to speak a lot, he can’t wait to hear your story!
Tsveta was born in a small town close to the seaside, but has lived in Plovdiv for over 20 years now. And she has come to love the town of the seven hills as her own. She graduated from the Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts in Plovdiv, then spent a year and a half in Switzerland studying Hospitality Management. Some of her numerous hobbies are reading, drawing and studying foreign languages.
Adi was born in Plovdiv and, even though she travelled a lot, she still sees the city as one of the most beautiful places she has been to. She graduated from Plovdiv University with a degree in Psychology. Adi enjoys working with people and always welcomes new friendships from all over the world. She has a passion for fantasy novels and loves spending time with a good book when not guiding tours.
Testimonials
Adi was a great guide!
Plovdiv free walking tour was very well guided by Adi, she explained historical and curious facts in the best possible way. The city itself is very nice and deserve a visit. This service is very much appreciated by true traveller. Thanks! budgeteurotrip, Italy
Excellent experience
We took the Free Plovdiv Tour based on the recommendation from a similar organisation in Sofia. The guide we had for our tour was a newbie and even though he was a bit nervous (which is understandable), he was great and we really enjoyed the tour. Plovdiv is a beautiful city and this tour is a great way of getting to know it. Thank you for organizing this! Jan Mika, Germany
A must in Plovdiv
The only bad thing about this tour is that it made us wish we could have stayed longer in Plovdiv!!! We only had the day there and the tour was an excellent way of seeing as much of the place as possible and learning a lot in a short space of time. It’s one if the shorter walking tours that I’ve been on but it didn’t feel like we were missing out on anything. The tour guide was lovely and had loads if interesting stories to tell. You should absolutely do this tour in Plovdiv. Sally, UK
Thank you for the very interesting tour. It’s a great deal to make free tours like this. Ms.Adi is a very professional guide. The explanations, the rich historical background, useful facts, sense of humor – everything exactly what the tourists need. Mark, Bulgaria
Saw Plovdiv with new eyes!
Had an amazing tour of Plovdiv’s Socialist Architecture with Daniel. Learnt lots & it was great to get a glimpse of some amazing art and uncover some of the overlooked hidden gems in this fascinating city. Saw buildings you might not look twice at with new eyes, thanks to Daniel’s commentary. *Strong* recommend. Anne J, Bulgaria
A great Tour!
We joined the tour on 25.11.2012 and we are very happy and satisfied with what we heard and learned. We reccomend the tour! It’s the best way to get to know Plovdiv! Alex, Bulgaria
An absolute must do!
If you are travelling to Plovdiv and want to understand the 6,000 year history of the town and region, you can’t go past the free Plovdiv tour. The tour guides are fluent in English and full of interesting facts about the area. From the Thracians (Hercules times), to the Romans, the Byzantines, Ottomans and Russians. I am a bit of a fan of history anyway, but this tour really filled in a lot of gaps about Bulgaria and its people. Don’t do yourself a disservice, jump onto the next tour as I am sure you will glad you did so….. Sean, Australia
Free Walking Tour Plovdiv + Plovdiv Graffiti Tour
We had a free walking tour with Iliya. The tour itself is just what you’d want – not too long, but not too short; takes you to all the main places and allows you to feel a lot more comfortable even if this is your fist visit (for us, it wasn’t, but still). Iliya was excellent: able to tell the story in an interesting way; perfect English; friendly, open, motivated and enthusiastic; had or quickly found answers to all our questions; explained things not only about the city, but about Bulgaria, also the association and the tours themselves; was prepared with interesting facts about the places we visited. I recommend this for all tourists. Graffiti Tour (Iliya, as above): really awesome and goes beyond a normal tour of a new city. Shows you the artistic side of the city and it makes you see it differently than just a town with people, buildings and sites; great for letting you feel the spirit of Plovdiv. Iliya was once again very well… Read more “Free Walking Tour Plovdiv + Plovdiv Graffiti Tour”

LOS ANGLES (AP) — Grace Kim shot a 7-under 64 at Wilshire Country Club to take the first-round lead Thursday in the LPGA Tour's JM Eagle LA Championship.
Playing in the morning session, the 23-year-old Australian capped her bogey-free round with a chip-in birdie on the par-3 18th.
"Well, I chunked my tee shot on the last hole 20 meters short and then I chipped it in it," Kim said. "I think that's pretty cool, in front of everyone."
Maja Stark of Sweden, Sei Young Kim of South Korea and Chanettee Wannasaen of Thailand were a stroke back at 65. Stark finished second last week outside Houston in The Chevron Championship, two strokes behind top-ranked Nelly Korda.
"I was so tired when I got here," Stark said. "I barely been practicing. Just did a little bit of what I needed to do. I feel like it's kind of similar anyway because there are just some pins that you can't go for just like at Chevron."
Korda withdrew Monday, a day after her fifth victory in a row.
Grace Kim won the LOTTE Championship last year in a playoff in Hawaii for her first LPGA Tour title. She missed the cut in The Chevron, shooting 76-72.
"If I was to compare my round today to last week, I really focused on just not having too much in my mind," she said. "I think I over-thought a lot of things through my first and second round last week and struggled a little bit mentally."
Sei Young Kim had four straight birdies on Nos. 12-15 in her afternoon round. She won the last of her 12 LPGA Tour titles in 2020.
Auston Kim, Haeran Ryu and Nataliya Guseva shot 66, and defending champion Hannah Green matched Amy Yang and Bianca Pagdanganan at 67.

Perhaps the best way to take it all in would be a walking tour covering its comprehensive museums and landmarks, punctuated by breaks at the lovely bohemian cafes along the way. Then there's new Plovdiv and the surrounding districts, comprised of leafy parks, lingering monuments to Soviet Realism and lively Balkan shopping streets.
