Situated in the chic Palmeraie neighbourhood, 15 minutes north east of the centre of Marrakech, Les Deux Tours is a total escape from the madcap medina and spoils guests with its three-hectare garden. For those who want to visit Marrakech, there are three free shuttles into town every day.

Style and Character

There is an old-fashioned sophistication to this resort, which despite its vintage age (it opened in 1991) remains timelessly elegant. Much of this is thanks to Boccara's intelligent design and unique modern, Moorish style. That and the gorgeous Andalusian-style gardens, which beguile with their fountains and lily ponds. Amid the frothing bougainvillea sit the main house and a handful of secluded villas, which accommodate 40 rooms and suites, nine of them with private pools. Make your way down winding paths and you’ll come across shaded benches, four-poster beds draped with gauzy curtains and a stunning 28-metre pool bookended with an open-air restaurant. Every part of this place exudes an air of tranquillity, including the interiors with their cool vaulted spaces and architect-designed furnishings.

Service and Facilities

Unlike modern luxury retreats, there's an old-fashioned sophistication to the service here. Not for them an army of bell boys constantly greeting guests by name. Instead, the privacy of guests is highly respected, particularly their desire to relax and retreat. Of course, should you need anything, it is on hand – 24-hour room service, an evening spa treatment, a picnic hamper to enjoy in the garden, good books in the library, top-class cigars and a very grown-up cocktail bar – but there is no insistence on anything. In addition, there is a focus on simplicity and quality, which is particularly evident in the two excellent restaurants. If you desire more activity, you’ll find golf, horse riding, tennis and biking all on the doorstep.

Les Deux Tours has 40 rooms and suites, including nine private residences modelled on riads which have their own private pools or a hot tub (only no.39). Although all different in style, they share the same modern, Moorish décor which has been hand-finished to exacting standards. Vintage Art Deco and Colonial-style furniture adds to the feel of by-gone elegance as do the super fine, white linen sheets layered over the king-sized beds. Generous bathrooms come with showers and baths and are trimmed with zellij or marble to add a splash of colour and texture to otherwise neutral schemes. Room service is available if you prefer to dine or breakfast in your room beside the fire or on your terrace.

Food and Drink

Breakfast is enjoyed on a large terrace overlooking the garden and consists of a feast-like buffet piled high with French pastries, breads, yoghurt and fruit alongside a live cook station.

Chef Nicolas Everrard is enormously proud of the potager garden, which supplies most of the vegetables for the hotel’s two restaurants. They are the star of La Pergola's lunch time menu, where they are showcased in delicate tarts, salads, Thai-inspired stir-fries and beside freshly grilled fish. Dinner at fine-dining Salammbô is a more sophisticated affair, set in a vaulted dining room with linen-covered tables and deep purple velvet chairs. Here you can choose from Moroccan, French or Thai menus, all of them are excellent. They feature unusual dishes such as Atlas quail with citrus and balsamic vinegar, seafood tagine with artichokes and yellow curry with egg noodles and kaffir lime leaves. Wines, too, are well curated and a real effort is made to showcase the best new Moroccan wines, with different estates highlighted each day.

Value for Money

Double rooms from 1,815 MAD (£147) in low season; and from 2,445 MAD (£198) in high. Breakfast included. Free Wi-Fi. Look out for some excellent promotions during the low season.

Want a luxury stay in Marrakech, but prefer an intimate property away from the hurly burly? Les Deux Tours is just the spot! It’s a fabulous small resort, tucked away in the Palmeraie (yet only 15 minutes by taxi from the centre of town), set amid 3 hectares of lovely gardens — a verdant area planted with a stunning range of trees (many labelled for the green fingered amongst us) and dotted with a carefully placed range of day beds, loungers and seating, away from the pool, for those who want to soak up the serenity. This low-key luxury hotel is all about a relaxed way of life and its impeccably trained staff are on hand to ensure that your stay is 100% perfect. There’s a great range of accommodation from the classic doubles (spacious rooms all with either garden or patio, and the best with fireplaces and deep soaking tubs) to the fabulous pool suites (with private outdoor pool, salon, etc). The décor is classic but with contemporary splashes; think traditional carved doorways and vaulted ceilings, set beside modern artworks and statement light fittings. Bathrooms are equally indulgent and the best feature deep mosaic tiled soaking tubs, perfect after a day in the frenetic souks of the city! Foodies will not be disappointed either. The gorgeous restaurant (where breakfast is served daily too), has a lovely terrace for balmy days but come winter it’s dark and atmospheric inside, ideal for a candlelit tryst, and the food is delicious. As well as a good menu with influences from both east and west plus traditional Moroccan fare, there is a daily changing special for each course which ensures that you can sample the chef’s market pick of the day. The other noteworthy point about the food is that many of the ingredients are grown on site in the impressive organic kitchen garden. Lunch is taken at La Pergola, a relaxed dining area, just moments from the stunning pool, and is equally good. Facility-wise Les Deux Tours punches well above its weight. In addition to the aforementioned restaurants there’s an atmospheric bar with cosy alcoves and hidden nooks (plus outdoor terrace) offering a great range of signature cocktails, plus an amazing spa with hammam which everyone should try — your skin will never feel so good — and fitness room. It’s difficult to verbalise quite what a lovely place this is in its sophisticated, elegant, understated way! So don’t just take my word for it, come and see for yourselves!

La qualité de la cuisine digne de grandes tables nous a transporté. Le personnel est aux petits soins, l'organisation des excursions sans faille, tout est fait pour que ce séjour reste mémorable.

Un petit paradis au coeur de la palmeraie, villa magnifique, service impeccable, toute l'équipe était au petit soin avec nous. We stayed for one week end of February and location was great for a variety of trips like visiting Marrakech and squad driving in the desert whilst getting some tan at the swimming pool. Staff very friendly and service oriented. We have used the main restaurant during our stay which provides a wide variety of changing fresh cooked dishes. There is an option for 2 additional restaurants which we believed provided almost the same food in a different setting.
