Was just talking AGAIN about how incredible this trip was from beginning to end! Everything was taken care of for us: great hotels, excellent comfortable transportation, fun, informative tours and insights, made terrific friends, and just so much more! It was ‘fala-FILLED’ with so many great activities and such delicious foods!! Traveling with Best Day Adventures was the Best Decision Ever!! – Linda R. I have taken many group trips over the last 15 years and I can honestly say the 2015-16 Best-Day Adventures New Years cruise is at the top of the list– due to your efforts. Bill’s personality, care for the participants, energy level and, overall coordination cannot be replicated. You are one of a kind and Ayelet (and the Jewish single population) are very lucky to have you. Thank you for all that you do and all that you are. – Tina S. Dear Best-Day Adventures, I loved everything about our trip and will treasure it forever!!!! Bill and BG were THE BEST!!!!!! I can’t wait to take another trip with them!!!!!! Hope your summer is going well. Warmest regards – Jennifer G. What a wonderful trip! It was a nice balance of group activities, ship activities, and time to go off on our own if we chose to. As mentioned in your email, I will have “wonderful memories” and ” lasting friendships.” Here is a toast to Bill and hopefully many more Best Day Adventure trips with him. – Jamie S. Best cruise, best people, best Bill, best day – you are off to a great start and I was glad to be a part of it. Everything went so smoothly and was very organized – Bill is amazing, and never fails to accommodate everyone with his genuine concern, enthusiasm, good nature and caring manner – a true mensch in every way. Saul was also very friendly, interested, and much involved in the planning of events and making everyone feel welcome. A spirit of camaraderie was fostered by Bill and Saul that helped bring people together and truly enjoy one another’s company while still giving plenty of space for people to do their own thing. – Richard S. Wow, what an incredibly glorious trip from beginning to end! I just can’t tell you enough how much this trip meant to me – Bill’s true joy and phenomenal sense of humor absolutely made the trip extra, extra special and his excitement for everything that we did was so tremendously appreciated! Will definitely be traveling with you again! You really took care of everything and showed us such great places! Thank you for making everything work – this was absolutely one of the greatest adventures of my life!! (HUUUGEE understatement!!!) My heart is full. – Linda R. Read More

When our congregation started in 2001, almost all of our participants were in our 20s and 30s. As the years went by, we established our careers, met our spouses, some even had children,, all with the backdrop of Adventure Rabbi reflecting who we were and who we wished to become.

Now our congregation spans all ages, but we are happy to still provide meaningful programming for this age group.

This group is paid for by the generous contribution of members of our congregation. Please add your dollars to theirs>>

Our adventurous group is led by Elaine Barenblat, who is in her 20s, and is the Educator for the Adventure Rabbi Congregation.

This group is geared for singles and couples in the 20s-30s range and meets once a month for hikes, socializing, geochacheing and more.

About JWings: Jewish Singles Travel

photo

Marcie Rubenstein, Founder, Chief Organizer and Tour Leader of JWings

1980’s                         BA, MA – Political Science

2006                            AEC – Tourism and Travel

1970’s – Forever       PHD – World travel and adventure

Marcie was born in Montreal, Canada and graduated from Concordia University, with a BA and MA in Political Science. She has worked in planning, finance and management and organized trips to Israel for Jewish Community associations in Ottawa and Montreal. Since her early twenty’s, Marcie has been designing group trip itineraries for friends and colleagues. Several years ago, she had the opportunity to take an intensive program in travel and tourism. She has worked at a travel agency, specializing in customized vacations to Asia, Europe and the Caribbean. Her most recent position has been as a tour coordinator for a national wine company. Marcie has developed and organized exclusive group tours to wineries in North and South America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Along with planning winery visits and tour itineraries, she was responsible for arranging all travel logistics and accompanying the groups as the tour leader. She has now also become the official Sommelier for her friends and family!

Traveling has always been my passion and ‘beshert’! I have traveled to over 100 destinations and can’t wait to show you what I have seen. The opportunity to discover diverse cultures and traditions, explore the historical, natural and exotic wonders of the world, sample different cuisines and wines and meet fascinating people, are life’s ultimate experiences and education.

After traveling on several Jewish singles trips, I realized that I wanted to establish my own Jewish singles travel group. My experience in the travel industry, combined with the conviction that the most exciting and rewarding job in the world would be to plan and lead Jewish singles trips, has resulted in the launching of JWings.

JWings is a travel group for Jewish singles, between the ages of 35-ish and 55-ish. Membership Requirements: A love of travel, a thirst for adventure and the desire to meet other dynamic and fun Jewish singles.

JWings is busy planning Jewish singles trips to everywhere…but the Moon. Our tours will include visits to sites of Jewish interest and history. Whenever possible, we will also organize get-togethers with members of Jewish communities in our travel regions.

Winter, spring, summer, fall and any season in between, are all perfect times to take a Jewish singles group vacation.

It was so easy when we were ’20 something’ – we grabbed some friends, bought a train pass and an open-return plane ticket, threw some clothes into a backpack…and off we went. Now we are a little older, with more obligations and responsibilities and a lot less time to plan a trip. Our friends travel, but we can’t always coordinate our vacation plans and travelling solo can get pretty lonely. That is why a Jewish singles travel group like JWings, is so convenient and user-friendly. We take care of the planning. All you have to do is book your plane ticket and join a great group of other Jewish singles, on an adventure of a lifetime…Easy, fun, an opportunity to make new friends and have memories that will last forever.

Connect. inform. inspire., choices snowball for ski adventures.

  • By Adam Wills
  • Published December 15, 2005

Adam Wills

Skiers and snowboarders who want vacations with fresh powder have an avalanche of options this winter. Jewish ski trips abound for teens to 40-somethings of all skill levels.

Mammoth and Lake Tahoe will be the setting for a variety of Jewish ski trips, and teens can hit the ditch at local terrain parks through day trips being organized by Orange County’s Merage Jewish Community Center.

Other action can be found in Colorado, where three separate Jewish events are meeting over the next few months. In Europe, Alpine adventures include a French ski school for Jewish teens.

So even if you’re groomed more for the bunny hills than black-diamond thrills, you can still find excitement schmoozing with tribe members during an apr?s ski at one of the following events.

The Merage Jewish Community Center of Orange County is featuring a teen trip to Bear Mountain for all skill levels of snowboarders and skiers, grades 6-12. Price includes transportation, lift tickets and snacks; equipment rental is available for an additional fee.

Dates: Monday, Jan. 16, 6 a.m.-7 p.m. (The JCC also has a trip to Mountain High in Wrightwood on Feb. 26.)

Cost: $80 (JCC members), $100 (nonmembers)

For more information, call (949) 435-3400.

Jski has three trips to Mammoth this season. Aimed at 20- to 40-something singles, the price tag includes roundtrip transportation via bus and two-nights lodging with a fireplace, color TV and Jacuzzi. Saturday evening features a wine and hors d’oeuvres party. Beginners welcome.

Dates: Jan. 20-22, Feb. 24-26 and March 17-19

R.S.V.P. to Howard at (818) 342-9508 or [email protected] at least two weeks before trip.

The best solo travel holidays.

With more of us than ever travelling alone, here are some of the best singles holidays for any travel style

Cathy Winston

BY Cathy Winston

articlemain

Travelling solo has never been more popular. Google searches for “solo travel” and “travel alone” were the highest ever at the start of this year, while one in nine people took a solo holiday in the previous year, according to ABTA’s Holiday Habits report 2017.

And with another survey by solo travel website 101 Singles Holidays finding that the numbers booking solo trips rose 14% last year, the trend shows no sign of stopping. That goes double if you’re a women, with female solo travellers taking 63% of solo trips last year, according to research .

It’s not just gap year students skewing the results either: the average age of all single holidaymakers was 57. You needn’t even be single, growing numbers are leaving partners behind to fulfil their own travel dreams.

Best of all, tour operators and travel companies are responding to the growing demand with more trips aimed at solo travellers, and helping those travelling alone to avoid single supplements. India, Italy and Sri Lanka were the three fastest growing destinations for solo travellers, with Greece and Spain joining Italy as the most popular overall.

So wherever you’d like to go, whether it’s your first solo trip or your fiftieth, and whatever style of holiday suits you, there’s a perfect solo break out there. We’ve picked out some of the options and the best companies to try.

Singles-only trips

If you’re wary of being the odd one out, guarantee plenty of other company from other solo travellers with a singles-only holiday. Specialists Friendship Travel , Solos Holidays and Travel One all offer trips exclusively for singles so you’re also certain to have your own room.

Many have a house party feel to them – a host makes sure no-one gets left out, and can help organise excursions and days out, but there’s no regimented timetable. But you can also book anything from a UK walking holiday to a skiing break to island hopping in the Mediterranean or long-haul destinations such as Cuba.

There are even golfing holidays and dinner-dance breaks if you’re looking for an escape with other people who share your interest.

Escorted tours

Perfect if you’d rather travel as part of a group, they’re also ideal if you’re heading off the beaten track.

With so much choice, it’s worth doing some research to find the perfect fit. Some offer singles-only itineraries such as Solo Travellers , others have no supplement if you’re happy to share a room (and if they can’t find another solo traveller of the same sex, you don’t have to pay the supplement either) while some cater to specific age ranges. If you’re a single parent travelling with kids, there are family-friendly itineraries too.

Explore and On The Go Tours  have a wide range of small group tours, many with no compulsory single supplement – ranging from the chance to discover the Highlights of Portugal to two weeks exploring Thailand and its Temples & Tribes .

Cox & Kings has dedicated solo traveller tours as well, popular with over-50s, including long-haul destinations such as India , Costa Rica and South Africa , while Saga Holidays singles-only tours are exclusively for the over 50s , with short-haul and long-haul options.

Or look for specialist companies, such as InsideAsia Tours , American Sky and Australian Sky .

There’s a good reason cruises are often so popular with solo travellers – not only an easy way to see the world, the friendly atmosphere makes it simple to strike up conversation, plus there are port tours to join if you don’t want to explore solo.

Despite this, cruise lines haven’t always catered well for single cruisers, until recently. Norwegian Cruise Lines  was one of the first to create proper studio staterooms designed for single passengers, avoiding high supplements, as well as a social lounge exclusively for those travelling solo. There’s also flexible dining on board.

If you prefer the more formal approach, Fred Olsen has the traditional group tables in the main restaurant and can pair single travellers together, or provide dinner hosts and companions for on-shore excursions.

As well as activities to help single cruisers meet up, they also have single cabins, no supplement on selected sailings and reduced supplements if you’d like your own twin cabin. Sites such as Iglu.com have regular early booking deals and last-minute discounts for solo cruisers, including both cruise lines.

There’s more than ocean cruising too – getting to know people is easy on smaller ships, from all-inclusive luxury barge holidays in Europe with European Waterways , whose special offers include no single supplement, or single cabins on St Hilda Sea Adventures cruises around Scotland’s western Isles.

jewish singles ski trip

Beach holiday

Sometimes all you want from a holiday is the chance to lie on a sunlounger and relax – and there’s no reason single travellers should pay over the odds to do so.

Mercury Holidays has hotels with no single supplement worldwide whether you’re looking for a Mediterranean escape, the chance to sunbathe by the Indian Ocean or winter sun deals.

Bigger resorts can be a great option too, with plenty of facilities for those travelling alone.

Breathless Punta Cana Resort & Spa in the Dominican Republic has a virtual guest chatroom, for example, so you can get to know people before you check in as well as finding company once you arrive – there are also communal tables in some of the 11 restaurants and low single supplements.

The BodyHoliday  in St Lucia has a string of single rooms, and its all-inclusive stays don’t just cover food and drink; you’ll get activities, watersports and even spa treatments included. There’s a special September Solos month focused around single guests, with extra deals too.

Fancy some me time on a white sand beach with its own house reef? The Maldives aren’t just for honeymooners. At four-star  Bandos Island Resort , there’s no single supplement at selected times if you book with Barefoot Traveller .

jewish singles ski trip

Themed holidays

A singles holiday based around a particular activity or hobby is another great option – a shared interest ensures everyone has something in common and it’s a perfect ice-breaker if you’re new to solo travel.

If it’s art, music and culture that you love, there are themed tours galore from several specialist companies. The Cultural Travel Company has low single supplements for many trips, while Martin Randall Travel has new solo-only tours for 2018.

Travel with an expert guide on a holiday from the award-winning Peter Sommer Travels , focused on the archaeology and history of the Mediterranean, including gulet cruises around Croatia, Greece and Italy.

Kirker Holidays also has no single supplements on some trips; its focus is on classical music, including their own music festivals, as well as art.

Or write your own novel, on a creative writing break in Greece with Skyros , along with creative and personal development courses in Spain at Cortijo Romero .

If you prefer a more active escape, Inghams has summer lakes and mountains holidays, trekking and walking through some of Europe’s loveliest scenery – and no single supplement. Ramblers Walking Holidays has no supplement on an increasing number of its walking holidays too, including short breaks in the UK.

There are also yoga holidays for singles as well as spa and detox breaks among other healthy holiday ideas for solo travellers.

Monday, September 27  – Athens, Greece – Tour Begins

Our tour begins in the capitol city of Athens, a cultural trove for art, food, music, and history. This evening, get to know your fellow travelers at our Amazing Journeys Orientation and Welcome Dinner featuring Greek specialties at a local restaurant in Athens – Opa! (D)

Tuesday, September 28 – Athens

Enjoy a panoramic tour of the highlights in Athens showcasing the city’s ancient and glorious monuments, such as the Temple of Zeus, the Parliament, and the Olympic Stadium. Next, ascend the steep hill of the Acropolis. Greek for “highest city,” the Acropolis was the religious center of ancient Athens and is crowned by the Parthenon, considered the pinnacle of classical Greek architecture. After, you can stay in the area for a visit on your own to the Acropolis Museum (fee applies – open until 8pm). This evening is free to enjoy on your own. We recommend walking through the Plaka, the perfect spot for people watching, shopping and food! (B)

Wednesday, September 29 – Athens – Thermopylae – Meteora – Kalambaka

Travel north through central Greece to Thermopylae. Stop to see a monument dedicated to Leonidas who died defending the city against the Persians. Arrive in Metéora and visit two remote monasteries situated in a unique landscape of limestone rock “towers” that extend nearly 900 feet into the air. Over 600 years ago, Byzantine monks chose to build their monastic community perched atop these virtually inaccessible rocks. We end our day at a family-owned taverna where we have the opportunity to savor a delicious meal with recipes passed down from generations. (B, D)

Thursday, September 30 – Kalambaka – Delphi – Arachova

This morning, visit a local studio to see painters at work creating beautiful Byzantine icons. Continue to the ancient city of Delphi, one of Greece’s most important religious centers during Classical times. A local expert will guide our group on a visit to the Sanctuary of Apollo, the Doric Temple, the ancient theatre, and the Delphi Museum with its priceless collection of ancient artifacts. It was here that the famous Oracle was consulted to foretell the destiny of Man. Continue on to charming Arachova, a popular ski resort town with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. (B, D)

Friday, October 1 – Arachova – Olympia

Travel along the Gulf of Corinth, crossing into the Peloponnese to the historic city of Olympia, a testament to the grandeur of ancient Greek civilization. Visit a local farm in the countryside and meet with the owners to learn about everyday life. Following the tour, enjoy a tasting of local wines, olive oil, homemade jams, marmalades and sweets. This evening, join together with our Amazing Journeys community for Shabbat services, followed by a group dinner. (B, D)

Saturday, October 2 – Olympia

Our guided visit to ancient Olympia includes a tour of the sanctuary of Zeus, the Olympic Stadium – where the first Olympic Games were held in 776 B.C. – and the museum. Next, learn how to cook some of the region’s best dishes as we partake in a Mediterranean cooking experience followed by a traditional Greek lunch. This evening, broaden your knowledge of traditional Greek musical instruments and folkloric dances with a delightful Greek dance class. (B, L, D)

Sunday, October 3 – Olympia – Mycenae – Nafplio

Enjoy spectacular scenery as we cross the Arkadian Mountains en route to the ancient city of Mycenae for a guided visit of the excavations featuring the Beehive Tombs and the Lion Gate. Our day ends in the picturesque seaside resort of Nafplio. This evening is yours to relax and enjoy the narrow streets of this quaint town, with lots of options for outdoor dining. (B)

Monday, October 4 – Nafplio – Athens – Mykonos

Early this morning, transfer to the port of Athens for the high-speed ferry ride to Mykonos, the whitewashed jewel of the Cyclades Islands. Enjoy magnificent views as we cruise across the brilliant Aegean Sea to this island paradise. (B, D)

Tuesday, October 5 – Mykonos

Enjoy a relaxing day to independently explore the charms of Mykonos. Don’t miss Mykonos Town, where mazes of narrow streets link the whitewashed buildings and traditional life continues amidst the bustling activity. There are lovely beaches, terrific shopping and plenty of streets for exploration. For those who prefer, join an optional excursion to the nearby island of Delos (fee applies), the fabled birthplace of Apollo and Artemis. (B)

Wednesday, October 6 – Mykonos – Santorini

Today we leave Mykonos behind and cruise to the most spectacular destination in the Mediterranean, the fabled island of Santorini. This evening is free to enjoy so many dining options on Santorini. For those who prefer, we have chartered a one-way bus into the town of Fira where there is shopping galore and restaurants set on the edge of the volcano, with views to the Aegean Sea. Return arrangements are on your own, (B)

Thursday, October 7 – Santorini – Oia – Santorini

Our day begins with a visit to the excavation site of ancient Akrotiri, the most important prehistoric settlement found anywhere in the Eastern Mediterranean. Known as the “Minoan Pompeii,” the flourishing town was at once destroyed and preserved by a volcanic eruption around 1450 B.C. Next, travel through a fascinating landscape of vineyards, whitewashed chapels and volcanic cliffs to the spectacular town of Oia, where the best views of the crater are found. We’ll end our day with a visit to a local winery that produces the unique and famous wines of Santorini. This evening, enjoy one of the many amazing restaurants perched along the edge of the cliffs of Santorini. (B)

Friday, October 8 –  Santorini

We have purposely left this day tree for leisure time to relax or independently explore Santorini, considered one of the most stunning landscapes in the world. Shop in Thira’s charming town center on the Street of Gold, known for its jewelry, take in the breathtaking scenery, visit a local museum or simply enjoy the amenities of our hotel. Tonight, we come together for a Shabbat service, Greek style! After, we will enjoy Shabbat dinner together. (B, D)

Saturday, October 9 –  Santorini – Athens

Bid farewell to the Greek Islands and fly back to Athens for our overnight stay. Celebrate the end of a memorable trip to Greece with a delightful Amazing Journeys Farewell Dinner. We’ll wrap up our tour together in a fun and memorable way! (B, D)
