Sky Garden is the second track of the Lightning Cup in Mario Kart: Super Circuit . This track makes a retro appearance in Mario Kart DS as the third track of the Lightning Cup , in Mario Kart Tour as of Sky Tour , and in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as part of Wave 1 of the Booster Course Pass DLC, as the third track of the Lucky Cat Cup .

As its name implies, the track takes place high up the clouds with vegetation in it, which mainly consists of stalks.

Mario Kart: Super Circuit [ ]

The track is in the sky and is cloud-themed. On the sides of the tracks are tan-colored clouds which slow down the kart and may save one from falling off. Some jump pads can be seen here, and one of them allows players to pick up an Item Box . Vines are shown growing from underneath. The vines do not affect the racer other than stopping them as if they ran into a wall. These can be avoided as they are only at the edges of the course. There are many shortcuts here by cutting through clouds from ramps but are only possible by using one or two Mushrooms . You can still try them, but good luck making the jump. The one with the most impact is to use a Mushroom when going on the first small ramp which can save up to seven seconds of time.

Mario Kart DS [ ]

This track returns in Mario Kart DS . It retains most of its layout from the original game. The ultra shortcut is still there but must be placed after the ramp and not on the ramp.

  • 6-5: Peach must drive through 8 gates in order.

Mario Kart Tour [ ]

This track returns in Mario Kart Tour as part of the Sky Tour . Its layout has been drastically changed to remove most (if not all) of the sharp turns due to Tour's control making it nearly impossible to make those turns. The turquoise cobblestone path has been changed to a gray stone path, and the tan clouds have been replaced with white clouds. The first vine bridge has been replaced with a Trampoline Mushroom , and the final straightaway has been replaced with a gliding section.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe [ ]

This track returns in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as DLC. Its layout is lifted directly from the version in Tour, but with different textures (e.g. the gray stone path being replaced with a red-orange brick path).

Shortcuts [ ]

Time trial data [ ], staff ghost [ ], world record [ ], staff ghosts [ ], trivia [ ].

  • This track is one of the rare Super Circuit tracks which is able to be shrunk in order to fit in the SNES limitations. Other tracks are usually using twice the maximum space for a Super Mario Kart track, while some others (like Ribbon Road or Rainbow Road ) use the maximum SMK space, squared.
  • This track appears in the Lightning Cup twice, once in Super Circuit and then again in DS , being the only course in the Mario Kart series to appear in the same cup twice.
  • In Mario Kart DS , instead of taking the whole turn, you can cut across on a few platforms with a mushroom. Although, you can still use no mushrooms and hop over the tiny gaps. This route without a mushroom is surprisingly faster than following the original path.
  • The Japanese name of Cloudtop Cruise is the same as this track.
  • The fact that Daisy is a Staff Ghost for the Mario Kart DS version may reference how she loves flowers, and we typically find flowers in gardens. The fact that Lakitu is a Staff Ghost for the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe version may reference his role as an aerial unit for the Koopa Troop. The fact that Ludwig is a Staff Ghost may reference is role as the boss of the cloud world in many of the New Super Mario Bros. games.

The Sky Tour was the sixty-fourth tour of Mario Kart Tour, which began on February 23, 2022 and ended on March 8, 2022. As its name suggests, it introduced a newly remade Sky Garden from Mario Kart: Super Circuit as a classic course after its last appearance in Mario Kart DS. This tour also introduced a variant of Mario donning his aviator helmet and outfit from Super Mario Odyssey. Kamek, Peach (Halloween), and Rosalina (Halloween) returned as spotlight drivers for the second week of the tour, along with variants of Kamek's Zoom Broom as the spotlight karts.

This tour concluded the Winter Celebration event that began in the Wario vs. Waluigi Tour . In addition to retaining the Winter Challenges, the tour featured a set of Winter Multiplayer Challenges that rewarded Black Yoshi upon completion, which would last until the following tour, the Mii Tour, as well as another new driver, Light-blue Shy Guy, as a reward for placing high in the ranked cups. This tour was also the first tour to include two Glider Challenges, and the second one after the 1st Anniversary Tour to have only one Time Trial challenge instead of two or three.

This tour's Coin Rush course was RMX Mario Circuit 1, which was reused from the Mario Bros. Tour and the Mario Tour. The menu's background featured some beanstalks and a Toad House from GBA Sky Garden as the landmark for this tour. Up until the release of Version 2.12.0, the title screen image for this tour was changed to represent Team Waluigi's victory over Team Wario during the Wario vs. Waluigi Tour. After downloading the update, the title screen would feature artwork of Mario and Miis in Pipe Frames on celebration of the Mii Tour until the 2022 Yoshi Tour.

Starting from this tour, Captain Toad and Bowser Jr. (Pirate) are available in regular tour pipes, including the All-Clear Pipe.

All GBA Sky Garden (2022 version) Shortcuts

Last updated on December 14th, 2023 at 04:59 pm

In this article you’ll find all the intended shortcuts known of the GBA Sky Garden version that was released in 2022 with Mario Kart Tour. If a new shortcut is found, please feel free to make a comment below. This article will then be updated to add it to the list.

Shortcut #1

This is near the beginning of the track. After the initial turn, keep going ahead and bounce on the leaves instead of curving to the left. No mushroom is needed.

Shortcut #2

This shortcut is near the end of the track. Simply go through the beanstalk vine instead of waiting until the curve. You need a Mushroom for this one in most cases except for 200cc in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, where you can just boost and hop through the off-road section.

These are all intended shortcuts for GBA Sky Garden. If you would like this article to also feature potential unintended shortcuts, please let us know in the comments below.

New courses will be added into 2023

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is gaining 48 new courses as paid downloadable content (DLC), with the first wave added from March 18.

  • READ MORE: 5 things we’d like to see in ‘Mario Kart 9’

Announced during a  Nintendo Direct last night (February 9), the Nintendo Switch tracks are all remastered courses from previous Mario Kart games. They include entries from Super Mario Kart on the SNES, Mario Kart 64 , Mario Kart Double Dash and Mario Kart Wii . There’s even room for some tracks from recent mobile entry, Mario Kart Tour .

The first wave of courses include:

  • Paris Promenade (Tour)
  • Toad Circuit (3DS)
  • Choco Mountain (N64)
  • Coconut Mall (Wii)
  • Tokyo Blur (Tour)
  • Shroom Ridge (DS)
  • Sky Garden (GBA)
  • Ninja Hideaway (Tour)

The courses are split across two cups. More courses are set for release throughout 2022 too with six waves in all anticipated.

Mario Kart 8

Subscribers to Nintendo Switch Online’s Expansion Pack will have nothing to pay to enjoy the tracks. Everyone else will need to pay £22.49 for the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass to access all the new courses.

Last November, Nintendo announced that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was the best-selling game in the racing series . Up until September 2021, it had sold a total of 38.74million units since its release in 2017. Sales will have no doubt increased since then.

Only last week, Nintendo announced that it had sold over 100million Nintendo Switch units . That means the console has now outsold the Nintendo Wii.

In other gaming news, Ubisoft is reportedly planning on launching a new Assassin’s Creed game soon . The game was originally conceived as an expansion pack for Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla but will now be a standalone title.
