  • The long period of slavery broke the confidence of us Indians in such a way that we lost faith in our own creation.
  • Today, from this thousands of years old Kashi, I call upon every countryman - create with full confidence, innovate, do it in an innovative way
  • The third resolution that we have to take today is to increase our efforts for self-reliant India.
  • This is the elixir of freedom. We are in the 75th year of Independence.
  • We will have to work from now on for what India will be like when India celebrates a hundred years of independence
  • Today's India is reviving its lost heritage.
  • Here in Kashi, Mata Annapurna herself resides.
  • I am glad that the statue of Mother Annapurna, which was stolen from Kashi, has now been re-established in Kashi after waiting for a century
  • For me Janardan is the form of God, every Indian is a part of God, so I want to ask for something.
  • I want three resolutions from you, not for yourself, but for our country - cleanliness, creation and continuous efforts for self-reliant India
  • The inauguration of Kashi Vishwanath Dham will give a decisive direction to India, will lead to a brighter future.
  • This complex is a witness of our capability, of our duty.
  • Nothing is impossible if you are determined, determined
  • In the arms of every Indian, there is that force, which makes the unimaginable come true.
  • We know penance, we know penance, we know how to spend day and night for the country.
  • No matter how big the challenge, we Indians can defeat it together
  • We know penance, we know how to spend day and night for the country.
  • The feet of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj were lying here.
  • From Ranilakshmi Bai to Chandrashekhar Azad, Kashi has been the birthplace of many fighters.
  • Talents like Bharatendu Harishchandra, Jaishankar Prasad, Munshi Premchand, Pandit Ravi Shankar, and Bismillah Khan
  • Where to take this remembrance
  • Kashi is the land of four Jain Tirthankaras, the epitome of non-violence and austerity.
  • From the integrity of King Harishchandra to the knowledge of Vallabhacharya, Ramanand ji
  • From Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Samarth Guru Ramdas to Swami Vivekananda, Madan Mohan Malaviya
  • How many sages, acharyas have been related to the holy land of Kashi
  • Banaras is the city from where Jagadguru Shankaracharya got inspiration from the purity of Sridom Raja, he resolved to tie the country in the thread of unity.
  • This is the place where Goswami Tulsidas ji created a supernatural creation like Ramcharitmanas with the inspiration of Lord Shankar
  • The realization of Lord Buddha appeared to the world in Sarnath, here.
  • For the betterment of the society, sages like Kabirdas appeared here.
  • If there was a need to connect the society, then this Kashi became the center of the power of devotion of Sant Raidas ji
  • Kashi is not a matter of words, it is a creation of sensations.
  • Kashi is that - where awakening is life!
  • Kashi is that - where even death is Mars!
  • Kashi is that - where truth is the culture!
  • Kashi is where love is tradition
  • The invaders attacked this city, tried to destroy it. The history of Aurangzeb's atrocities, his terror is witness, who tried to change civilization by the sword. Who tried to crush the culture with fanaticism
  • But the soil of this country is different from the rest of the world.
  • If Aurangzeb comes here, Shivaji  stands up. If any Salar Masood moves here, then brave warriors like King Suheldev make him feel the power of our unity.
  • And even during the British era, what did the people to kashi do to warren hastings ?
  • Right now, along with Baba, I am also coming after seeing the city Kotwal Kalbhairav ji, bringing his blessings for the countrymen.
  • Anything special in Kashi, anything new, it is necessary to ask Kaal Bhairav, Kotwal of Kashi
  • It is said in our Puranas that as soon as one enters Kashi, one becomes free from all bondage.
  • Blessings of Lord Vishweshwara, a supernatural energy awakens our inner-soul as soon as we come here
  • When you come here, you will not see only faith.
  • You will also feel the glory of your past here.
  •  How antiquity and novelty come alive together,
  •  How the inspirations of the ancient are giving direction to the future,
  •  We are doing its direct darshan in Vishwanath Dham complex:
  • This whole new complex of Vishwanath Dham is not just a grand building,
  • This is a symbol of the Sanatan culture of our India!
  •  It is a symbol of our spiritual soul! It is a symbol of India's antiquity, traditions! India's energy, mobility
  • Earlier the temple area here which was only three thousand square feet, it has now become about 5 lakh square feet.
  • Now 50 to 75 thousand devotees can come to the temple and temple premises.
  • That is, first the darshan-bath of Mother Ganga, and from there directly to Vishwanath Dham
  • Kashi is Kashi! Kashi is imperishable.
  • There is only one government in Kashi, those who have damru in their hands have their government.
  • Who can stop Kashi where Ganga flows by changing its current?

Arriving in Varanasi around 4 pm, the Chief Minister headed straight to Banas Kashi Sankul in Karkhianv via road from Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport. He assessed the Amul plant built at a cost of about Rs 475 crore on thirty acres of land. After this, the Chief Minister reached the Circuit House, where he held a review meeting of the ongoing development projects in Varanasi. Yogi Adityanath visited Banas Kashi Sankul amidst adverse weather conditions to inspect the plant, a release said. PM Modi is set to inaugurate several development projects, including the Amul plant, during his upcoming visit to Varanasi in February, promising increased employment opportunities in the region. The Chief Minister issued clear instructions to ensure thorough cleanliness and beautification of both the city and its roads. He emphasized the imperative of maintaining pristine roads, devoid of filth and stray animals, with pothole-free surfaces and adequate lighting. He also stressed the importance of upholding safety, security, and efficient traffic management during the event. Highlighting the significance of the Prime Minister’s visit, particularly following the Pran Pratishtha ceremony in Ayodhya, the Chief Minister underscored the need for a grand and meticulously organized programme, assigning responsibilities to all relevant departments. During the meeting, Commissioner Kaushal Raj Sharma provided the Chief Minister with an overview of the preparations for the inauguration and foundation stone laying ceremony. Police Commissioner Ashok Mutha Jain briefed the Chief Minister on road diversions, security arrangements, and traffic management plans for the Prime Minister’s visit. Chief Minister Adityanath urged for the timely and responsible execution of these arrangements. Yogi Adityanath issued firm directives to ensure all necessary preparations were completed promptly and with utmost quality. To address the delay in the works of the Public Works Department, it was suggested to adopt the tender process at the time of NOC. The Chief Minister directed the officials to visit the spot and inspect the work so that the roads and drains are built as per the standards. The Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department was ordered to complete the remaining works by the first week of March. Expressing dissatisfaction with delays in projects under the pro-poor Scheme in Sarnath, the Development Authority was directed to promptly provide designs to executing agencies and complete pending work by early March. Ensuring road safety and public safety during construction was emphasized, with engineers instructed to strictly adhere to prescribed safety standards. Chief Minister Adityanath stressed the importance of providing appropriate compensation to affected parties for properties acquired for project construction, as advised by local representatives. He emphasized the removal of illegal encroachments on the Dharamshalas along the Panchkosi Parikrama Marg. He stressed that access to these facilities should be limited to saints only, with strict measures in place to prevent exploitation by individuals seeking personal gain. The Chief Minister took a stern stance on complaints concerning the mass marriage scheme (Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana), directing strict measures against any detected irregularities, irrespective of the level of involvement. He also instructed for the distribution of appointment letters to candidates after the Prime Minister’s programme, ensuring the presence of public representatives across divisions and districts. He asked the Jal Sansthan officer to swiftly complete sewer and drainage works in Ravindrapuri

How India Prime Minister Narendra Modi transformed Varanasi

Kashi Vishwanath Corridor, multiple projects bring about sea-change to ancient city

WIN 211212 VARANASI-1639309768891

Lucknow: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream project in Varanasi - the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor - is all set to transform the entire area around the Kashi Vishwanath temple and multiple other projects have brought about a sea-change in the ancient city.

The temple, till now, was ensconced in the tiny lanes of Varanasi and access to the same was invariably a problem - especially on special occasions when the crowds swelled. The temple lacked direct visibility from the Ganga River.

The 20-25 feet wide corridor that will be formally inaugurated on Monday, will connect Lalita Ghat on the Ganga to the Mandir Chowk in the temple premises.

Devotees can take a dip in the holy river and offer prayers to Shiva in the temple from there itself.

WIN 211212 VARANASI 299-1639309783033

The temple now has an area of its own with a giant courtyard.

While the renovation of the Kashi Vishwanath temple remains top on the list of the projects completed in the Prime Minister’s constituency, the Rudraksh Convention Centre that is designed like a Shivalinga with a seating of 1,200 people, with 108 Rudrakshas on its facade, is another major highlight.

The building form and philosophy behind this Convention Centre is inspired by Kashi’s tradition of people-friendly spaces.

With modern facilities like partitioned meeting rooms, art gallery and multi-purpose pre-function areas, the place provides opportunities for artists to showcase themselves and interact with the people as well.

Increased connectivity

The Prime Minister, as MP of Varanasi, has also ensured increased connectivity in his constituency.

WIN 211212 VARANASI 277-1639309779107

The Godowlia Multi level parking, Panchkosi Parikrama Road (for pilgrims), Ro-Ro Vessels for tourism development on Ganga River and three-lane flyover bridge on the Varanasi-Ghazipur Highway, Rs 1 billion for constructing 47 rural link roads of 153 km, Lahartara-Chaukaghat flyover replete with a food court and open cafe, road connecting Babatpur airport to the city have given a new identity to Varanasi.

The Ring Road, with two rail overbridges and a flyover, will allow traffic on NH 56 (Lucknow-Varanasi), NH 233 (Azamgarh-Varanasi), NH 29 (Gorakhpur-Varanasi) and Ayodhya-Varanasi highways to bypass Varanasi, thereby reducing traffic congestion in the city.

The Ring Road will provide convenient access to Sarnath, an important site for Buddhist pilgrimage.

WIN 211212 VARANASI 20-1639309771834

The much needed six-lane widening project of the Varanasi - Prayagraj section of NH-19 has also been started, and this widening will significantly reduce congestion and traffic for vehicles plying towards Varanasi.

Besides this, Varanasi has seen overhaul and upgrade of the sewage system with the installation of online effluent monitoring systems and SCADA automation at ghats and sewage pumping stations to ensure that actionable information is available at all times.

Traffic control

An Integrated Command and Control (ICC) Centre for traffic and police management system, and medical emergencies has also been operationalised.

Additionally, 3,000 CCTV cameras have also been installed at critical points across 720 locations to ensure smart policing and make Varanasi much a safer place for pilgrims and residents alike.

WIN 211212 VARANASI 3-1639309763011

Varanasi has been provided with ‘smart signages’ with Quick Response (QR) code. These signages give information to visitors and tourists alike about cultural importance of heritage sites and the 84 iconic ghats of the city, which are known for their antiquity and architectural beauty.

Sculpture signages have also been installed at the Assi ghat and Khidkiya ghat, providing information about various events like Ganga Arti at Dashashwamedh ghat, annual Naag Nathaiyya event at Tulsi ghat. The smart signage at Manikarnika Ghat and Harishchandra Ghat, where last rites of people are performed, is meant for people to know about the traditional rituals of these ghats.

Medical hub

Varanasi is emerging as one of the biggest medical hubs of Purvanchal. The two cancer hospitals - Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya Cancer Hospital and Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital - provide comprehensive treatment to the patients from Uttar Pradesh, and nearby states of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar.

The Deen Dayal Hastkala Sankul - a trade facilitation centre for weavers, craftsmen and artisans of Varanasi in 2014 and in 2017, provides a marketing platform to weavers and artisans.

The Manduadih railway station in Varanasi has been revamped into a world-class station. Equipped with the latest amenities like air-conditioned waiting lounge, stainless steel lounges, LED lights, the station also has a cafeteria, food court, booking and reservation office, waiting rooms and more.

On a two-day visit to Kashi, PM Modi will unveil the statue of Saint Ravidas and have a community feast with the devotees

Sir Gobardhanpur, locally referred to as Seer Goverdhanpur, is a small town on the outskirts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency Varanasi and the birthplace of 15th Century poet-Saint Guru Ravidas.

As the town — popularly known as ‘Mini Punjab’ — gears up for grand celebrations to mark Ravidas Jayanti this year on February 24, they will have a special guest in PM Modi who is set to visit the Saint Ravidas Temple — a pilgrim site for Dalits, Ravidasia Sikhs and other sects.

On a two-day visit to Kashi, PM Modi will unveil the statue of Saint Ravidas on Friday. He had laid the foundation for the statue way back in 2019. He will pay tributes to the saint and have a community feast with the devotees.

PM Modi’s visit, just ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, is his third visit to the temple since occupying the chair. Before this, he had visited Seer Goverdhanpur for the first time in 2016, just ahead of state assembly polls and had a word with the devotees. The he paid a visit ahead of the 2019 polls. UP’s political analysts called PM Modi’s visit an attempt to woo the vote bank spread across Punjab, Haryana and other states.

‘Mini Punjab’

People say though Ravidas Jayanti celebrations are common in many districts and states, Kashi, being the birthplace of the 15th Century saint, holds a distinct position.

modi visit to varanasi time table

“On the occasion, millions of devotees not only from India but also from abroad pay a visit to this temple where Guru Ravidas — known for the Bhakti movement and honoured with the title of ‘Sant Shiromani’ — was born. This place is also a pilgrim site for Ravidasia Sikhs and Dalits. Some researchers have described this temple as having the same importance for Dalits as Mecca holds for Muslims and Golden Temple for Sikhs,” said professor Rajeev Srivastava, a city-based historian in Varanasi.

An architectural marvel

Srivastava said Saint Ravidas temple is an architectural marvel. “Apart from the main dome, there are around 30 big and small domes at the temple which are studded with gold. Inside, there is a palace of penance of Saint Ravidas where a ‘Sitar’, one of the belongings of Saint Ravidas, has been kept in one corner of the room. The foundation of this temple was laid on June 14, 1965, and Swami Garib Das was entrusted with the responsibility of building it. The idol of Saint Ravidas was installed in the Sant Sammelan organised in this temple on February 22, 1974.”

Celebrations start a week in advance

Ravidas Jayanti celebrations start almost a week before the main festive day with the arrival of pilgrims from Punjab in special trains, including a group led by the trust’s chairman Sant Niranjandas. The Varanasi district administration ensures that all arrangements are done at the pilgrim site, which also holds a grand fair on the occasion.

modi visit to varanasi time table

Political significance

The fair is also politically significant as several VVIPs and political party chiefs visit it in an attempt to expand their vote base.

Other than PM Modi, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and others have visited the site. Political analysts said Ravidassias are a Dalit community, the bulk of whom — nearly 12 lakh — live in Punjab’s Doaba region comprising Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, and Nawanshahr and play a vital role in Punjab politics.

Ever since the Yogi government came to power in UP, many projects for the development of the birthplace of Saint Ravidas were launched. These include the Sant Ravidas birthplace development project, including the construction of langar hall (community hall) and toilet block of Rs 5.35 crore near the Ravidas temple.
