General Information (Visa)

• Pakistan Online Visa System is now open for the citizens of 179 countries
• Citizens of 50 countries are eligible to apply for Visa On Arrival (VOA) under Tourist Category
• Citizens of 95 countries are eligible to apply for Visa on Arrival (VOA) under Business Category
• National of Afghanistan and India will continue to apply for visa using paper-based application form
• Minimum 6 months valid passport is required for the visa processing
• Applicant’s physical presence may be required for interview before issuance of visa

Frequently Asked Questions (Visa)

As long you have your Valid Pakistani Passport or NICOP you can travel to Pakistan without visa. Smart Chip Card / CNIC is not considered as NICOP.  However, if your NICOP is expired, you can still get visa on arrival in Pakistan . In all other cases, you need to get e-visa against your Canadian Passport. Yes, we accept electronic applications. Visa Fee is also paid online using credit/debit card. You will need to scan your original supporting documents and upload against your e-visa application.

Birth Registration of a child with the Consulate is neither a substitute for visa nor passport .  Parents can either obtain Pakistani passport for their child or they can seek visa on Canadian passport of the child.

Following are the requirements:

• Original Passport. Third country nationals need a valid resident visa in Canada as well.
• Original letter of invitation from Pakistan along with the telephone number and address of your sponsor in Pakistan.
• Scanned copy of CNIC of the sponsor  (both front and back).
• If you do not have a sponsor then we need your travel itinerary with the hotel reservation confirmation in Pakistan . 

Afghan origin applicants / nationals need to submit following documents along with the paper-based visa application form (duly filled in and signed):

• Copies of passport (first four pages)
• Visa Grant Notice in case of Afghan passport
• Invitation letter from Pakistan
• Colour copy of Pakistani ID (both sides) of invitee / sponsor
• Copy of any utility bill (electricity or gas), having same address as on Pakistani ID of invitee / sponsor
• Self-addressed return envelope.

Following documents are required:

• Copy of your marriage certificate
• Copy of your Pakistani CNIC /Passport
• Your family’s invitation letter along with copies of their Pakistani CNIC / Passport.

To apply for the spouse visa for Pakistan, we need original marriage certificate, your spouse’s Pakistani CNIC / Passport, your in-laws invitation letter along with the scanned copies of their Pakistani CNIC / Passport.

You would need to route your Pilgrimage visa application through  Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB), Lahore in Pakistan for the grant of pilgrimage visa. Alternatively, you can submit sponsor letters from both Sikh Associations in Pakistan and in Canada sponsoring your visit along with the details of places you would stay and your complete itinerary.

You travel to Pakistan (your home country) on this minimum validity but cannot come back to Canada. For international travel, your passport must be valid for at least six months .

Please check your airline about the validity of CANADIAN passport. As far as your entry into Pakistan is concerned, you can enter into your homeland on a valid Pakistani Passport or NICOP. 

If you are residing on a substantive Canadian visa (not a visit visa), we may consider your application provided you fulfil all other requirements relevant to the category of application.

No. Paper-based application for processing of visa requests has been discontinued. However, the Indian and Afghan Nationals are still required to submit paper-based application form along with supporting documents.

In order to get a family visit-visa you need following document(s):

• Marriage Certificate and valid Pakistani Passport / CNIC of the spouse or
• Valid Pakistani Passport / CNIC of the parent(s) or any other document to establish Pakistani origin

Following are the requirements for issuance of business visa:

• Recommendation letter from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Canada
• Invitation letter from business organization duly recommended by the concerned trade organization in Pakistan
• Recommendation letter by the Honorary Investment Counsellor of the Board of Investment or Commercial Attaché (Consul General of Pakistan of Pakistan in Vancouver).

There are total of 96 countries placed in the Business Visa list which includes Canada. The nationals of these countries can get a 30 days Visa-on-Arrival (VOA) in Pakistan on production of any of the following documents in original:

Instructions

• Nationals of 191 countries are eligible to apply Pakistan ONLINE visa.
• Applicants are  NOT required to send their original passports . After successful processing, applicants will receive a ‘Visa Inbox’ via email. This PDF ‘Visa Grant Notice’ with few security features is accepted by the most Immigration authorities and airlines.
• Payment of fee is online as well through generally accepted credit cards. Fee structure is given at: https://visa.nadra.gov.pk/fee-structure/.
• The system twice sends confirmation emails upon; (i) online payment, and (ii) when you ‘submit’ the application. A unique 11-digit tracking reference is generated.
• The  processing time is usually only between  7-10 working days  for tourist, business & family visas. For other categories please check on the website.
• Requests for issuance of visa within 48 hours and over the weekends/closed holidays, other than business visa, will require additional $40 as ‘processing fee’ payable to the Consulate General of Pakistan in the form of Debit/Credit card.
• Please note the processing time for each category will start when an application is lodged after completion in all aspects including required documents. If the application is sent back for Review to the Applicant, the set processing time will re-start from the date of re-submission or completion of the application.
• When ‘sent back’ due to any reason, processing time restarts.
• The applicant can be asked for additional documents under ‘ Review ’. Kindly do not forget to ‘Send Back’ the application after addressing the issue.
• In certain cases, the applicant can be called for  in-person or video interview . Please provide in the application, a working mobile or a number you are available during the day.
• A visa issued under a specific category by this Consulate General cannot be converted to another category in Pakistan. In certain visas ‘extensions’ can be applied in Pakistan only.
• Cross-categorization can lead to denial of visa. i.e., if the purpose of the visit was Business or Missionary, applying under tourist or trekking or vice versa.
• Proof of legal residence is a mandatory requirement. In this regard, please provide a copy of your State ID or U.S. driving license and a copy of your U.S. green card(for non-U.S. citizens/nationals).
• All visa fees are  non-refundable . Visa can be refused, or duration of visa can be modified by the issuing authority without assigning any reason.
• In-person interview or additional documents can also be required.
• Issuance of visa is the prerogative of the Government of Pakistan, exercised through designated authorities. Applicants must plan travel only upon receipt of a valid visa.
• Applicants under  all categories must upload  copy of information/relevant pages of a valid  Passport  (not expiring in next 180 days) to be used for the intended travel (with correct numbers in application) and recent/legible  photograph .

Family Visa for Foreigners of Pakistan Origin

• Valid foreign Passport with at least 6 months validity; please upload legible information pages of the passport.
• Picture as per specifications; not later than six months with white or blue background.
• Copy of one of the following documents is mandatory:-
• A valid Pakistan Origin Card (POC); or
• Valid or expired Machine-Readable Pakistani Passport; or
• Valid or expired Computerized/Smart National Identity Card (CNIC/SNIC) or
• Valid or expired National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP).
• Birth certificates issued by the Pakistani authorities either digital (issued by NADRA with QR code) or legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan or one of the Pakistan’s Missions Abroad.
• In case the applicant is foreign born, a legalized Birth Certificate or Registration with Pakistan Mission Abroad with parent’s Pakistani IDs (as above) be attached;
• If the applicant is married to a person of Pakistan-origin, copy of a marriage certificate (in English or Urdu) issued by NADRA and legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan or one of the Pakistan’s Foreign Missions with copy of spouse’s Pakistani ID.

For applicants under 18 years :

• Both Parents’ CONSENT ( click here to download the form ) for visa is mandatory. Both parents need to sign the form; notarize it and attach copies of the State issued valid ID bearing photo and signatures thereupon.
• In case a single parent has legal custody, please attach notarized copy of the court order/ guardianship certificate and copy of State issued valid ID bearing photo and signature.
• In case of adoption, a certificate issued by relevant US authority, notarized copy with State issued ID bearing photo and signatures of the adopting parent/Parents is required
• Proof of legal residence such as State I.D. or U.S. driving license of the parents.
• Kindly note handwritten NIC and passports are redundant and unacceptable as IDs.

Business Visas

Business Visas have two categories. Apply Now

A.   Citizens of 97 countries including USA can obtain Visa on Arrival in Pakistan. However, the eligible businessmen are required to obtain a Visa Inbox or Electronic Travel Authorization.

B.   Business Visa List Countries and those not in the list both can obtain long-term visa this long-duration visa for up to 5 years multiple visits. Requirements include:

I.      Proof of registration of company which is extending invitation (SECP/ Chamber of Commerce Certificate)

II.    Any of the following:

• Recommendation letter from CC&I of respective foreign country
• Invitation letter from business organization duly recommended by concerned trade organization in Pakistan – In order to get this  REQUIRED DOCUMENT – Please apply through Pakistan’s E-Business Invitation Letter System – For More Details  PLEASE CLICK HERE!
• Recommendation letter by the honorary investment counselor of BOI/Commercial Attaché

III.    Please attach a copy of recent bank statement for proof of funds.

Tourist Visa Requirements include:

• Sponsor letter has to be on affidavit and the host’s CNIC/Passport copy needs to be notarized from Pakistan (Original).
• Confirmed Hotel booking
• A letter of introduction from employer/educational institutions as the case may be.

Visa for Foreigners of Afghan Origin

• Now Afghan passport holders and Afghan-origin persons holding US Passports or other foreign passports with legal residency can apply online.
• Travel documents carried by refugees and asylum seekers  are not accepted  for e-visa
• Addresses of two references from Pakistan

NGO/INGO Visa

• The application along with all required documents and photographs online. Cover letter of NGO/INGO organization requesting visa. The requirements include:
• Letter of Introduction from Employer.
• Registration license of NGO/INGO
• Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between NGO/INGO and the Government of Pakistan.
• US Permanent Residence Card (For Non-US Nationals)
• NGO visas are approved from Islamabad (back home), therefore, applications should be submitted 6-8 weeks prior to intended travel date.

Visa to Indian Nationals

• Indian Passport holders are required to submit their visa request by post/walk in on the prescribed application form available on the website,  (visa application form for Indian Nationals, click here for form) . Five copies of each application are necessary.
• Invitation letter signed and notarized clearly mentioning the purpose of the visit, relationship with invitee, with proof of address: copy of CNIC/SNIC and a utility bill;
• If the applicant is married to a person of Pakistan-origin, copy of a marriage certificate (in English or Urdu), issued by NADRA and legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan or one of the Pakistan’s Foreign Missions with copy of spouse’s Pakistani ID.
• Visa and processing Fee is $60. Fees are payable in the form of Debit/Credit card  to the Consulate General of Pakistan, Houston.
• Normal processing time is 4 weeks. However, in case the attached documents are not complete or further information is required, the processing time may be longer.
• On arrival in Pakistan, immigration formalities are mandatory (Police registration is applicable in certain cases.
• Indian-origin person holding the US, or other foreign passports can apply online
• For pilgrimage season , Indian nationals/Indian-origin passports holders can apply online.

Diplomatic/Official Visa

• All diplomatic staff and their families holding diplomatic passports of foreign countries assigned to Pakistan are eligible to apply for this visa.
• Diplomatic Visas will be granted against authorized slots only.
• Note Verbale must be attached issued by the Sending State/Organization
• Diplomatic/Official visa is generally gratis with few exceptions.
• Please complete  Arrival Notification Form  for Assignment visa (bilateral).
• For Diplomatic Assignment, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from Islamabad approves the Visa. Immediately, on arrival in Pakistan, the diplomats are required to get accredited with the Protocol Division of the Ministry.
• Foreign Officials of all countries who are assigned to perform official duties in Pakistan holding official Passport are eligible to apply for Official visa.
• Letter of Recommendation (from Economic Affairs Division/Ministry of Foreign Affairs/ Respective Ministry or Departments) for UN and International organizations
• Officials/Persons Working for or on behalf of UN Agencies/International Organizations including IFIs such as the World Bank and IMF ( Click for Names of Organizations ) in Pakistan can also apply for official visa online.
• Please fill the  UN/IO Related Requests Form  , in case your visit purpose is (i) Assignment with UN/IO or for one of the following categories: (i) Short-term Assignment Visa; (ii) UN Volunteers; (iii) UN/IO official visit.
• Military Service Form  be completed and attached in case applicant is a Military Personnel.

How to Apply for Pakistan Visa?

Pakistan visa is now easy to attain. As part of the personal interest of Pakistan’s Prime Minister and changing government strategy in promoting tourism as a means of generating revenue, the government of Pakistan is providing options to easily get your visa.

Pakistan’s government is now providing four online options to travelers to apply online for tourist/visit visa on Pakistan Online Visa System. The online system for “visa on arrival” and “online visa” is new and simple. The table below will help you find the relevant visa category so that you process your application without any mistakes. You must always apply for the most relevant tourist visa in order to get your application approved. If your itinerary (attached to your application) and the type of visa application does not match , you might risk your chances  to get your visa application approved. Below are all the online options available to you at the moment.

Pakistan tourist visa fee is between US$20 to US$120 depending on the category, sub-category and entry type of the visa.

For Visa on Arrival, you must first submit your intent to travel to Pakistan at least 48-72 hours before your planned trip to Pakistan to receive an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) via email. The processing times for different visa categories are given below. 

The documents required for different categories and sub-categories from around the globe are given below.

1. MOUNTAINEERING VISA

• Mountaineering Application-Form (It is required if the application is made under Sub-Category “a”)
• Sponsor letter/Agreement with designated tour operator by the Department of Tourist Services (example: Apricot Tours )

2. TREKKING VISA

• Trekking Application-Form (It is required if the application is made under Sub-Category “b”)
• Sponsor letter/Agreement with designated tour operator by Department of Tourist Services (example: Apricot Tours )

3. TOURIST VISA

• Hotel booking Details or tour operator designated by the department of tourist services (example: Apricot Tours )

4. VISA ON ARRIVAL FOR TOURIST

• Hotel booking details or only an Invitation Letter by the sponsor. If the sponsor is tour operator, it must be designated by the Department of Tourist Services (example: Apricot Tours )
• Invitation Letter in case of group-tours by a tour operator designated by the department of tourist services (example: Apricot Tours )

5. PILGRIM TOURIST VISA

• Invitation letter/Hotel Reservation
• Proof of legal residence of third-country (Under category “b”)
• In case the applicant is Spouse: Valid proof of legal and permanent residence in a third country other than India of Husband/Wife

Applying for a tourist visa-on-arrival for travel in Pakistan is an easy online process. Although it’s not truly a visa-ON-arrival as you first need to fill out a quite lengthy form and pay a fee before you fly.

I’ll walk you through the entire process and what happens when you arrive at an airport in Pakistan with your “approval to travel” document (I’ve done it twice now!).

Many people don’t even know visa-on-arrival exists for Pakistan. It was introduced by Prime Minister Imran Khan in 2019 .

If you’re Indian and want to visit Pakistan, I’ve written an article about how you can, or more likely, can’t.

Visa-on-arrival length & extensions vs Tourist Visa

Pakistan visa-on-arrival has a maximum stay of 30 days and cannot be extended.

If you want to stay longer in Pakistan, you must apply for a normal tourist visa which can be granted for up to 3 months with up to 6 months extension. But it’s more difficult to get, and you may have to go for an interview at your local Pakistani consulate.

How to apply for a Pakistani tourist visa-on-arrival aka “tourist visa in your inbox”

Since applying for my two visas-on-arrival, they’ve changed the name to “ Tourist Visa in Your Inbox ,” which is confusing but a more appropriate name.

First of all, it’s not a true visa-on-arrival where you land at an airport and are issued the visa on arrival. You first have to head over to Pakistan’s Official Visa Portal (https://visa.nadra.gov.pk/) and apply to be eligible to travel to Pakistan and receive a visa-on-arrival when you land.

You can’t just turn up in Pakistan for a visa-on-arrival. Hence the name change to “Tourist Visa in Your Inbox”, I guess. Select this option when applying for your tourist visa.

You have to provide a ton of information, including family info and everywhere you’ll be going and staying in Pakistan. But most importantly you need a hotel booking or invitation letter.

If you’re travelling without a tour guide or alone, submit your hotel booking.

If you’re travelling on an organised tour, the company will provide you with an invitation letter and their Govt. approved tourism dept. ID.

Once you’d submitted your application and paid the visa fee, then within 48 hours, you’ll get three emails. Mine both came within 2 hours of applying.

Note: Some readers’ visas have taken longer than 48 – 72 hours because the immigration official wanted more documents from them. So do apply at least two weeks before your flight.

The first is a payment confirmation with the subject: “e-Visa Application Fee Submission.”

The second is an application confirmation with the subject: “Pak-Visa Successful Application Submission.”

The third is your approval to travel to Pakistan. It looks like this:

Subject: Pak-Visa TRAVEL INTIMATION. Dear Karl, ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) Thank you for intimating your intention to get Visa on Arrival under Tourist Category. We are pleased to inform that you are Authorised to Travel to Pakistan and seek Visa on Arrival through the concerned Immigration Authority Counter at the Airport. This is your approval to travel to Pakistan. The email contains your Visa Tracking ID too.

Print this email and carry it with you to Pakistan.

The Electronic Travel Authorization is all you need to travel to Pakistan.

They’ll then issue you a visa on arrival at the airport and a copy is emailed to you for your records with the email subject: “NOTIFICATION OF VISA APPROVAL.”

How long is a Pakistani valid for?

All visas are valid for entry into Pakistan for  6 months from the date of issue . If the visa has not been used during this period, it becomes invalid.

This only applies if you applied for a normal tourist visa (individual) (not a visa in your inbox). Be aware that the “Visa End Date” on your ETA / Visa Grant Notice is the last day you can be in Pakistan.

Don’t enter 2 days before the visa end date thinking they’ll give you the full 30 or 90 days. You’ll only have 2 days left on your visa. You have to leave before the “Visa End Date.” I found this out the hard way!

Can you apply for a tourist visa in your inbox from India?

If you’re travelling in India and want to go to Pakistan next, for some reason, the visa portal is blocking internet connections from India.

To bypass that, you’ll need to get someone overseas to access the site for you. VPNs will work for filling out the form, but you won’t be able to make the payment with the VPN connected (it’ll fail).

What arrival forms do foreigners have to fill out before landing in Pakistan?

There are two forms, a Disembarkation Card and a Personal Declaration of Origin and Health. Both will be given to you during the flight, so keep a pen with you.

What happens when you arrive at the airport in Pakistan with your approval form?

I’ve covered travelling from India to Pakistan in one of my YouTube videos , but I’ll go in-depth for you here.

When you arrive at immigration, they’ll be a booth labelled “Visa-on-Arrival.” Go there.

Present the above email, and they’ll take it from you and feed that paper into their printer and print your visa onto the backside! Weird, I know.

They’ll stamp both your passport and your visa paper.

I take a photo of that paper right away. But don’t worry if you lose it; you’ll be emailed a “Subject: NOTIFICATION OF VISA APPROVAL” with the information.

It usually takes 10-15 minutes at the visa-on-arrival booth. It seems they do some real-time analysis there on the spot before issuing you your visa. It’s not instant.

You may have to have a Rapid Antigen Test on arrival

As of 5/01/2022, you may have to do a rapid antigen test upon arrival. I did it, and it was a very quick process. If you test positive, you’ll have to quarantine in a hotel.

Hello Ji. That’s strange. They should print the Visa Grant Notice on the backside of your ETA at the airport. That’s what they’ve done for me multiple times. Ask to speak to someone senior and ask why they are not accepting your ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization).

Yes. If I remember correctly the visa is valid for 6-month from the date of issue. Just double-check that, but I’m pretty sure it’s fine.

Another question Karl, When you got that “ Pak-Visa TRAVEL INTIMATION” in your mail was your Passport number in small letters too ? In my application form i wrote it down in capitals. Will this affect on boarding the flight in the airport ?

Hey Annie, it doesn’t matter. Passport numbers are not case-sensitive. If there are any small issues like typos when you arrive, they’ll get fixed by an immigration official at the airport.

Hi Dr Abid, I contacted the consulate in Islamabad and they told me the letter was fine. You will get visa on arrival. You must print the email and give the copy to immigration as it says. He said the online app status will change once the visa is issued at the airport. So all is good with that letter alone. Susan.

Yes, but only for religious tourism as it says “Foreign nationals of Indian origin are also eligible to apply under this category for religious tourism purposes.” https://visa.nadra.gov.pk/visa-on-arrival-tourist/ . You will probably have to apply for a normal tourist visa and submit documents to your nearest embassy.

Hey Ali. I don’t think there’s anything you can do but wait if you’ve already contacted them. I applied for another country’s visa recently and their website said 24-hour turnaround, but it took them 3 weeks.

Hi Susan. As long as that email says you are authorised to travel to Pakistan, then you’re ready to go. Just print that page and carry it with you. They’ll issue you the actual visa when you arrive in Pakistan, and email it to you.

However, we simply used a hotel booking and not a proper Letter of Invitation. I am a little worried we will be turned back at the airport if we cannot show a letter of invitation — is this fear justified? Did you use a letter of invitation? Thank you for your help!

Hi Gordon, don’t worry. Just a hotel booking is fine. A few years back it was mandatory to have a letter of invitation, but not now as they try to boost tourism.

I applied for a regular tourist visa, and they keep sending back my visa with more information needed. I did upload a hotel booking, and they came back saying they wanted to do a telephone interview, but I have not heard anything back from them. Have you heard anything about this?

Hey Sayeeda, sometimes you have to do an interview for a normal tourist visa. Just read the tourist visa in your inbox website and see if you’re elligable to apply, it’s worth a try if you can, it’s faster.

You would have to cancel the regular tourist application to apply for the visa in inbox, I got my regular tourist visa yesterday so literally last minute it came luckily, so I would wait until the final week and really push and email to check where your application is, if it doesn’t come in the last few days, I would cancel the regular tourist visa and apply for the visa in inbox.

Thanks for replying. I have been pushing, on the Nadra website I keep sending messages asking what else they need, and asking about the status. It is still saying in process. The last message they sent me was that they wanted to do a phone interview, and I gave my USA number, and they still have not acknowledged that they will call me or anything.

I will wait until a few more days, and then do visa in inbox if I dont hear back anything. How do you cancel the regular tourist visa? I dont see the option to cancel that to apply for the visa in inbox.

They don’t check anything. You hand over the letter, they eventually print out your real visa and you hand it to the immigration officer. He kept mine and then I got the visa in my inbox afterwards which I printed at my hotel. It was all easy as. Don’t worry.

Salam I had this same problem too. You have to cancel your first application first. Keep on emailing them to cancel. I got mine canceled within a couple of days and right after I applied for visa in your inbox and I received my ETA within seconds. Just email then to cancel then you are all set! Good luck!

We are planning to live with our friend in Lahore. Just wanna know if he applies for visa in your inbox option, what kind of invitation letter would he need from the friend? does that invitation letter need to be approved or attested from somewhere? or does he need a hotel booking?

Hi Taimor. I don’t know exactly. But I’d upload a letter from your friend saying “My friend NAME AND PASSPORT NUMBER is coming to stay with me between DATES and is staying at my home at ADDRESS. His relationship with me XXXXXX. I’ve known him for X years. We plan to travel to LIST OF PLACES.” Something like that. Then he should sign and give his Full Name, address, phone number, passport number or National ID. Try that. Hotel booking also works easily too. Good luck.

Hi. That’s strange. You should be able to travel with ETA. Full VISA is issued when you arrive in Pakistan at the airport.

Yes it is. They are asking me a Visa in PDF before I can fly and have totally ignored my ETA. They asked me to contact embassy but I don’t know how as I applied online only, tried to call but no one is answering. And it is clearly mentioned in the Email I can travel with ETA. So I don’t know how this works.

You should call Qatar and complain. It seems like their mistake.

I tried to cross the Wagah land border with the ETA (just the email) I got after applying for a visa in your inbox and after a 3hrs long wait they refused to let me cross, saying that the ETA mentions only entry through airports, even though my application specified I wanted to use the land border and was accepted… They also blamed the fact that my application was still under process in the website, which I’m here learning is normal and will only change once I get the proper visa. I tried calling and emailing them to clarify but not answer so far…

Hello. Have you tried contacting Pakistan Visa Issuing Authority thru this site, https://visa.nadra.gov.pk/contact/ ? Same thing happened on me with Qatar Airlines. Contacted Pakistan Visa Issuing Authority thru the site and got a reply from them with the PDF Form Visa attached on it. However, there is no turnaround time for the reply. Got mine after 5hrs. I just raised a complaint in the message box that Qatar Airways does not allow me to travel with ETA only.

I was able to download my pdf from the pak-visa site. Hope that helps in the future. I was out of color ink so I went by a shop and they printed it out really nice for me on 28lb paper. It *feels* official now 😂

Hey Sarah. Yes, when applying for Visa-in-your-inbox select Wagha Land Route as your Entry Point.

Update: Qatar Airways were fine, but you need to print the pdf of your visa and fill in the pass track app, I would recommend printing these (as you will need to show them often, including if you are stopped at security checkpoints.)

On arrival the visa processing was slow and I’m not sure if all the staff were aware of the visa type.

Yes. Qatar Airways only accepts Visa in PDF Form, which I don’t know when I had my flight. They do not accept ETA which is contrary to what Visa in Your Inbox’s procedure. They will totally ignore the ETA and insist on providing them PDF form visa before departure. So once you receive your ETA, email Pakistan Visa Issuing Authority or lodge a request on Pakistan Online System thru Contact Us and ask for the PDF Form Visa. After some time, they will email you the same and it will be attached on the application you have made online as well.

It was a bit frustrating though that Qatar Airways didn’t understand the process of Visa-In-Your-Inbox.

I just downloaded it as a pdf from the pending application on the portal which was fine. Which airport did you check in at!?

Did you mean ETA in PDF Form? On the portal, it shows IN PROCESS status, and could not find any Visa in PDF Form. They insisted that my visa is in process as I showed them the portal and told me that I need to wait for it to be approved to have my visa in PDF Form.

This caused us lots if stress and money as i had hotel and everthing booked and my who is not well were planned to joun us. Hey Jawid, the ETA is just the email you receive with the subject “Pak-Visa TRAVEL INTIMATION.” In that email, it says, “We are pleased to inform that you are Authorised to Travel to Pakistan and seek Visa on Arrival through the concerned Immigration Authority Counter at the Airport.” I’ve always only carried that email. You can’t download the “Visa Grant Notice” from Nadra until you’ve gone through Immigration after you arrive in Pakistan and they’ve issued it to you. Sorry to hear about your problems, others have had the exact same problems. The other option is getting a normal tourist visa from your nearest Pakistan embassy and not using the visa-in-your-inbox option.

Hey Karl, thanks for providing this useful information. I just applied of my “visa in your inbox” and within seconds after payment already received my ETA. However, it states that the ETA is valid for 90 days after issuance, not 180 days as mentioned above. I will enter within 90 days, but I will not leave Pakistan within the 90 days period. Does anybody have experience if this will still work?

Hey Mike. As long as you arrive within the 90-days, they’ll issue you a 30-day visa. So you’ll be fine.

I applied not knowing about the 90 days, and I will actually be arriving 3 days after the ETA says it expires. Do you know of any way to extend it, or if the people at the airport actually check it against the online application? Or am I screwed and I have to apply and pay again? Thanks

I feel for you. I learnt this the hard way too. I don’t know how to extend it in the country. If you can’t get it done in person at some kind of immigration office in the city you’re in, then the other option is to fly to Dubai and reapply there, and then return. Good luck.

Make sure the airline accept that ETA email, virgin atantic denied me and my nine months old daughter boarding our flight in the middle of the night that caused us lots of stress and money, and my visa application still shows recieving for more than a month. I have send tens of emails asking for help and nothing has happened.

On the 4th working day we got a request for uploading extra documents:

Kindly provide/upload following documents: 1. A written signed statement by you stating details and purpose of your visit to Pakistan along with details of areas to be visited. 2. If you know any Pakistani citizen, an invitation letter, his/her contact details along with copy of his/her Pakistani ID may also be provided.

We replied within minutes with the document on question 1 and said we don’t know any Pakistani for question 2.

And we got a reply on our email aswell:

Dear Sir/Madam,

Standard Visa Processing time for Tourist Visa is­ 7 to 10 Working Days after your last submission date. you will be notified as soon as it is processed.

Our last submission date changed with the extra documents ofcourse. So weird that they say on the website you can apply for the visa 48-72 working hours before your trip and now they talk about 7-10 working days which renew with every new upload request 🙁

Official website info not matching with reality sounds about right, unfortunately. It seems like they neglect to update their website. Thanks for letting me know. I’ll add it to this post.

We received the email on the 12th working day! To all: make sure you also directly send in a photo of a hand written statement of the trip you will do, including signature. That will save time!

It’s updated again, a little different than your posted layout:

Subject: NOTIFICATION OF VISA APPROVAL

Message: This letter refers to your online visa application with visa application id XXXXXXXXXXX, which was lodged through Pakistan Online Visa System on 2022-07-27

A decision has been made on this application and visa has been granted on 2022-08-12 to the applicant stated in the Notice.

You need to have Visa Grant Notice while travelling to Pakistan, which you can download from Pak-Visa Application.

So, it’s not just a print anymore of an approval email, but you can actually log-in to PakVisa and download your visa as PDF. Print it and take it with you to Pakistan.

Hi Ashna. Yes, on mine it’s also like that. Surname then first name & middle name. Nope, no other docs are needed besides a passport. But I’d carry whatever documents you submitted for the visa (like hotel booking) – although they’ve never asked me for any additional documents.

We applied for 2 tourist visa’s mid august. Had to send in signed itinerary afterwards, which reset the clock (after 7 working days). 1 of the applications is now ‘in-process’, the other one I got the same message to resend the signed travel plan. Now we are waiting for a reply. Already contacted them, but we got the answer we just had to wait our e-mail.

What to do if the travel date comes too close? Does it help to push the process if we call them, or will that just lower it? Cancel and opt for visa in inbox? Is cancelling a current application easy? I don’t see the option (as mentioned above) to cancel. We are travelling in 2 weeks, which makes it rather stressful.

We had this situation aswell. No visa but our flight was going… so we did fly to Pakistan, couldn’t enter so stayed in Transit and booked a retour flight Pakistan-Oman and waited there for the visa in our inbox 😅

If my dad (US citizen) wants to go through the Visa in your Inbox and he plans to stay with my grandmother (no hotels or tour organizers), can I just type up an invitation letter on behalf of my grandmother with her residence and contact info? Does it matter if there is no signature on the letter?

Also, do they care if it’s a one-way ticket or round trip?

Hey Hamza. You can try that and see what happens. If your father is of Indian origin, he will probably be questioned when he arrives at the airport also. He should carry a lot of proof that his family lives in Pakistan. I don’t think it matters if it’s one-way or not. But again, at the interview at the airport, he’ll have to explain why he only has a one-way ticket. Best of luck.

Hey Meena, print the Visa Grant Notice and take it with you; it’s all you need. They’ll stamp it at immigration. It doesn’t matter if your entry/exit points change. I don’t know what a LOI is. They might ask you your travel plans and maybe to see a hotel booking. But they might not also. Just explain your travel plans if they ask and you’ll be fine. Hey Bro. If it’s your first time I’m guessing a hotel res won’t be enough. There’s some travel agencies who’ll draft this letter for you. Just search for em in google.

Just wanted to ask. I have preciously visited Pakistan on Single Entry Tourist Visa. At the moment I have a valid Tourist visa for entry which is valid until 01st of march, but I have another new visa now that is valid from 27th february onwards. I am Travelling to Pakistan on 1st of march. Do you know what happens to the visa I have now that Will export on 1st of march. Or should I just show the visa I have from 27th of february?

Thank you, this has been really helpful. However, I have a question. You wrote:

My ETA is valid until Dec 10th and the Pakistani embassy told me, it’s ok if I arrive on Dec 10th as they will then give me a visa for 30 days there as the ETA is not the actual visa. (My ETA doesn’t have a “visa end date” and states I’m authorized to travel in the period given and seek a visa on arrival which then will have its own period of validity.) So I’m assuming, the paragraph up there refers to people with actual visas and not ETAs.

Applied for a visa on line. Its literally like writing war and peace…. put in my travel dates and they have issued a visa today valid from 14 feb 24 to 4 July 24? I had stated i would be travelling on 18 jan 24 to 16 feb 24. What do i do please ?

Thanks Karl. This was very helpful. Visited Lahore just a few days ago using Visa in your inbox. I got almost immediate confirmation of travel and getting the visa was no problem at the airport.

That said, think you should also do a leaving Pakistan blog. That was an experience in its own, from getting to the departure area of the airport, the complete lack of organization to get into the ticketing area to the. Various queues to the touts within the airport that sell VIP lounge access and promises to get you through security. You can spend more in that process than your entire trip there. So yes, should budget at least 4 hours to go through the process, especially if it is busy travel season and be ready to fight and argue.

Hello! Im a US citizen and I applied for an evisa a few weeks ago and it’s still pending. My flight is later this afternoon! I tried to apply for an ETA for a visa on arrival but I can’t because I currently have an application pending! I’ve called every embassy phone number in pakistan but there is no answer! I’m worried of what may happen when I try to board my flight or even when I arrive in Pakistan. My hope is that I’m somehow in the system and I am granted to enter the country. My fear is that I’ll be turned away. I’m at a loss what to do. My fiance is there waiting for me to arrive. I’m stressed and I don’t know what to expect. Thoughts? Thanks!

NADRA is responsible for issuing National Identity Cards for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) to Pakistanis living abroad. Any Pakistani citizen can apply for NICOP, which allows visa-free travel to Pakistan for dual nationals. When applying for a NICOP for newborns born abroad, a passport number is required.

Where to Apply for NICOP: You can apply for NICOP either by visiting a NADRA Registration Center (NRC) or through the Pak-Identity website.

NADRA Registration Center (NRC): Visit your nearest NADRA Registration Center. Steps at the NRC:

• Receive a token.
• Have your photo taken.
• Provide fingerprints and signature.
• Enter required data and review the printed form.
• Receive a printed copy of your application form.

Pak Identity Website: Apply for Smart National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (SNICOP) on the Pak Identity website and get it delivered to your doorstep.

New NICOP Fees for Malaysia in Pakistan (April 2024): The regular fee for a new NICOP in Pakistan is Rs5,820, while the urgent fee is Rs8,730, and the executive fee is Rs11,640. Online fees: Normal fee: $20 Urgent fee: $30 Executive fee: $40.

Nadra NICOP online fee for Bahrain April 2024 update

LAHORE – The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) is the competent authority to issues new Smart National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (SNICOP) to the citizens living abroad.

Any citizen of Pakistan can apply for the document for the desired country and can travel to Pakistan without obtaining a visa in case of dual nationality. The passport number is a mandatory to obtain the smart NICOP.

Any citizen of Pakistan can apply for NICOP and can travel to Pakistan without requiring a visa.

NADRA offers two fee structures for Smart NICOP based on the region. Bahrain, which hosts number of Pakistanis, fall in Zone B.

Online Fee for NICOP for Bahrain April 2024

As of April 2024, the normal fee for new Smart NICOP stands at $20 while urgent fee is $30 and executive fee is $40.
