Nitin Sawhney is a British Indian musician, producer and composer whose work is an eclectic mix of global sounds drawing from club orientated electronica to flamenco, Indian classical music and commercial song writing. He is the recipient of over twenty international awards, has scored approximately 60 films, made over 20 studio albums, 11 under his own name, and has also scored extensively for theatre, dance and video games.. As a touring musician, Sawhney has performed extensively at some of the world’s most prestigious venues, as well as having curated many international festivals and lectured at numerous international universities.

He is the recipient of over 20 international awards including a CBE, an Ivor Novello lifetime achievement award, 6 independent honorary doctorates and has scored approximately 60 films (including Warner bros’ Mowgli for Netflix), numerous tv series, including BBC’s epic Human Planet series, made over 20 studio albums, 11 under his own name, and has also scored extensively for theatre, dance and video games. Nitin is a member of the academy of motion picture arts and sciences and BAFTA.

As a touring musician, Nitin has performed extensively at some of the world’s most prestigious venues, including the Royal Albert Hall, Hollywood Bowl and Sydney Opera House. As a DJ, he has performed across the world and appeared regularly at London’s most popular club, Fabric, compiling their album release – Fabriclive 15. As well as having curated many international festivals, Nitin has lectured at numerous international universities, including Stanford and Berklee in Valencia. Collaborations include work with Paul McCartney, Sting, Jeff Beck, Ellie Goulding, Annie Lennox, Will Young, Bob Geldof, Andy Serkis, Mira Nair and Nelson Mandela.

Nitin Says; “My late dad’s record collection was an unpredictable journey into the hearts and souls of musicians and singers from all over the world. With this album, I’m inviting some of my favourite international friends and artists to a celebration of their own identities in a single place of sonic safety and honesty. In making an album called “Identity” I am working and collaborating with artists who are proud of who they are and whose work is defined by that pride”.

Nitin’s new album Identity is the follow up to his critically acclaimed 2021 album Immigrants which received great support at press “A seductive and persuasive look at the lives and human struggles those in power would rather you ignored and disdained. Get connected” The Wire.

Speaking about the new album, Nitin says: “The world is littered with opinions of people trying to tell us who we are. People get so vociferous in pushing their judgement and definitions of others that they often forget our common humanity. We’re all human. We all matter… and, as long as you’re not harming anyone else, the only opinion that counts in defining who you are is your own. Identity, the album, is a love letter to who we all are”.

As a composer, producer and musician, Nitin is recipient of over 20 international awards, a CBE, an Ivor Novello Lifetime Achievement Award, 7 independent honorary doctorates and has scored over 60 films (including Warner bros’ Mowgli for Netflix), numerous tv series, including BBC’s epic Human Planet series, made over 20 studio albums, 11 under his own name, his most recent being ‘Immigrants’ released through Sony Masterworks and has also scored extensively for theatre, dance and video games.

In 2022, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Coventry Cathedral Nitin recently created a piece of music ‘Ghosts in the Ruins’ performed by the cathedral & community choirs both inside the cathedral and the ruins which was televised by the BBC. He has also created the music for ‘About Us’ a touring large scale public art event combining multimedia installations with animation, poetry, original music and live performance to explore the myriad connections between us, our planet, and the wider cosmos. He is currently working on some TV series to be released in 2022/23 amongst other projects. He also joined as an official member of the band Pink Floyd this year to play keyboards on a charity track that achieved no 1 status in 29 countries.

Nitin is to become the first Patron for PRS Foundation, the UK’s leading charitable funder of new music and talent development. He is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and BAFTA. He has served as a member of an appointed advisory committee to the UK government on national musical education policy, is an associate artist with London’s Sadlers Wells dance venue and has served as trustee on numerous boards including London’s Somerset House and the Whitechapel Art Gallery. Nitin is currently a trustee on the board of London theatre company, Complicité.

In 2019 Nitin Sawhney performed the entire Mercury-nominated, critically acclaimed 1999 album  Beyond Skin to a sold-out Royal Albert Hall. The response was overwhelming, with much of the audience expressing emotionally charged appreciation on social media. For this special concert at Wigmore Hall, Nitin reprises much of the same album with an intimate and acoustic approach. He will also feature highlights from his four decade-long career in music.

Nitin Sawhney CBE recipient of the Ivor Novello 2017 Lifetime Achievement award, is one of the most distinctive and versatile musical voices around today.

As a touring artist Nitin Sawhney has played across the globe to include prestigious venues such as Royal Albert Hall and Sydney Opera House.

Sawhney has recorded multiple albums, film soundtracks and compilations, encompassing over 70 film and TV scores. He is also established as a world-class producer, songwriter, touring artist, BBC Radio and club DJ, multi-instrumentalist, theatrical, dance, videogame and orchestral composer and cultural/political commentator.  Holding 7 honorary doctorates from UK universities along with 3 fellowships, Nitin also sits on the boards of multiple charities. He has received over 20 major national and international awards and is a member of Oscars, BAFTA and Grammys.

Sawhney is the Chair of the PRS Foundation, the UK’s leading funding body for new music and talent development.  Along with scoring for film and TV projects, Nitin released his new album IDENTITY on October 13 th 2023 through Warner Music
