Formed in 1983 in Los Angeles, California, NOFX is an American punk rock/ ska punk band currently consisting of members, Fat Mike, El Hefe, Eric Melvin and Erik Sandin.
In 1983 Mike Burkett (Fat Mike) and Eric Melvin met and started the band, and were later joined by Erik Sandin. The group released their first album in 1985 with Mystic Records. The band then underwent a lineup change, but through the changes, the original three members remained intact. In 1986 the band released an album attacking the PMRC (Parents Music Resource Center) for their campaign against music censorship with “The P.M.R.C Can Suck On This.” Following this album was “Liberal Animation” in 1988, which was recorded with Bad Religion’s Brett Gurewitz.
The collaboration with Gurewitz led to the band signing with Epitaph Records, and releasing their third studio album “Ribbed.” Shortly after the release, Aaron Abeyta, aka El Hefe, replaced Steve Kidwiller on guitar, followed by “White Trash, Two Heebs and A Bean” being released in 1992. In 1994 they released their best selling album, “Punk in Drublic” and received support from the mainstream media, as well as reaching certified gold.
Following a series of record releases that all fared well, the band made the move to sign with Fat Wreck Chords in 2005. The band continued to release albums that challenged the social and political systems that they didn’t agree with, and did so in true punk fashion.
Live reviews
NOFX, as many bands playing the main stage at the Reading Festival do, once performed in front of a banner stating their name. No surprises there, except theirs was about the size of a tea towel, visible to only the front few rows (who found the whole thing hilarious, of course). As an act, it pretty much summed up what makes them continually endearing – their refusal to pander to the rock and roll game, and a bratty sense of humour that still dictates the legendary punk rock band’s every decision even as they enter middle age. They might never have had a hit, but the devotion of their fans is palpable, with everyone from those in their early teens to hardened, Mohawk sporting gentlemen who can remember a time before colour television belting back ever puerile lyric that emanates from singer Fat Mike’s mouth. Circle pits and rampant moshing are commonplace, but the atmosphere is one of joyous release rather than aggression. One word of advice though; if you’re in the front row and Fat Mike offers you a drink, perhaps politely decline – it’s probably not meant for human consumption, unless you’re in to some particularly racy stuff in your private life.
Report as inappropriate
Fat Mike, El Hefe, Eric Melvin and Erik Sandin are the foursome that make up NOFX, a punk rock band of American origin. Although the band enjoyed their hay day (if, indeed, they even got to celebrate such a thing) in the 80s, boasting a pretty low score of hits, they nonetheless garnered a great deal of underground attention and built quite the fan following. NOFX are far from gimmicky, if anything the band is surprisingly low key and understated for their genre. But each member is truly talented and the band represents real, rockin’ American punk. They have mastered their musical capabilities to exceptional heights over the decades and slowly cemented their tongue-in-cheek bitterness only to combine the two in what was a brilliant, nostalgic and tongue in cheek performance. The crowd went crazy for classics such as 'Bottles To The Ground', 'We Called It America' and 'Murder The Government': they belted the lyrics along in full force, to the surprise and delight of the band. Fat Mike commented his delight that someone knew the lyrics because the band had long forgot them. All in all a great night.
NOFX, the Californian punk rockers have been working as a group for thirty years now and over this time they have learned both how to play their music to an exceptional level and how to entertain the masses with their tongue in cheek performance style.
Something of a cult phenomena in the UK, the band never matched the commerciality they achieved in the States yet fans from far and wide have packed into London's Shepherd's Bush Empire to see the classic material played alongside the new stuff. Starting with a piercing '60%', the band begins with an unimaginable high amount of energy that never really seems to falter.
As the crowd claps, cheers and sings along through favourites including 'Bottles To The Ground' 'We Called It America' and 'Murder The Government'. There is a sense of bitterness in nearly all of Fat Mike's vocals and the audience enjoy mimicking this during their singalong. The band thanks the crowd sincerely and explains they are the reason they continue to visit British shores and give them a modern day taste of Americana punk.
Useless ID was amazing, they had awesome stage presence and their music was tight. Pears was explosive and super fast, I was so excited when they played some of my favorite songs (Snowflake in particular). Then NOFX took the stage, oh boy, Fat mike was pissed that Trump won the election. Given the recent political mayhem in the US, they played songs like "Murder The Government" "The IDIOT has Taken Over" and "Leaving Jesusland". Now let me say, If your not a fan of NOFX you wouldn't like this show. NOFX is famously lazy in their playing and stage presence, but that just added to the experience for me. The entire crowd was a pit when they played "Separation of Church and Skate" and I got elbowed in the side of the head a couple of times. 10/10 would go deaf again.
The concert was the day of trumps election, and the previous show mike sprained his ankle. Suffice to say Fat Mike was not having a good night, and it showed. The band was totally not into playing and you could tell they just wanted to get off stage. CLASSIC NOFX, awesome show 10/10 would get called a poser again.
Amazing as always.
Now I'm just writing something else to comply with the rule that a review must be at least 30 words long. Kind of an utterly moronic rule, since I don't really need more words to describe a performance such as this one.
It was awesome! They were entertaining, energetic and just great! Good music, great laughs! It was just so cool how they interact with the crowd! Looking forward to seeing them again!
Show was amazing. No complaints. Keep up the good work. Drink stands were food. Service was good. Security was good. Keep up the good work. Thanks for the good experience.
I loved the show, but I could do without all of the starter bands. NOFX only played for about an hour and a half compared to the 6 hours of starter bands.

NOFX Announces Final Tour: 40 Years, 40 Cities, 40 Songs Per Day
Influential punk band NOFX is known as one of the world’s most controversial and significant punk bands of their time. They are no strangers to pushing boundaries at their live shows, and their final tour will be no different. The dream team of NOFX and Cameron Collins from Brew Ha Ha Productions and the Punk In Drublic Craft Beer & Music Festival has reunited to curate the first wave of announced tour dates in the United States.
The forty-cities-around-the-world tour begins on April 22 in Austin, Texas and concludes in October 2024 in Los Angeles, California. NOFX will perform forty songs a night, including full albums and rarities, plus they will never repeat a setlist to ensure that each show is unique.
NOFX frontman Fat Mike says: "This is not a final tour like MÖTLEY CRÜE or BLACK SABBATH … These are the very last shows NOFX will ever be playing. We are gonna play with all our hearts…With all our joy…And then we are done. We are done done."
NOFX final tour commences with a massive 21+ punk rock and beer weekend camping festival at Carson Creek Ranch in Austin, Texas on April 22 and April 23 that will feature special guests PENNYWISE , CIRCLE JERKS , FACE TO FACE , RIVERBOAT GAMBLERS , CODEFENDANTS , GET DEAD , BAD COP BAD COP , THE BOMBPOPS , PEARS , PIÑATA PROTEST and more.
Tickets for these shows go on sale this Friday, January 13 at 10:00 a.m. PT at www.PunkInDrublicFest.com. Options include single day, the Bro Bundle, VIP, and more including a digital download of each show with ticket purchase.
Initial tour dates are as follows, with more European dates, venues, and lineups to be announced soon:
April 22- 23 - Austin, TX – Carson Creek Ranch (campout) May 13 - San Diego, CA May 19-20 - Barcelona, Spain June 02 - Linz, Austria June 24-25 - Columbus, OH (campout) July 22- 23: Tacoma, WA September 16 - San Francisco, CA September 30 - St. Petersburg, FL
NOFX formed in Los Angeles back in 1983. They were forged in the same fiery furnaces of the L.A. hardcore scene that gave us BAD RELIGION , SUICIDAL TENDENCIES , THE GERMS and DESCENDENTS . NOFX sharpened their teeth in that tumultuous talent pool until they joined forces with Epitaph Records in 1989 and went on to release a string of crucial skate-punk albums. Their first major breakthrough came in the form of 1990's "Ribbed" , still a fan favorite, they then followed up with now-classics "White Trash, Two Heebs And A Bean" and "Punk In Drublic" , the latter selling well over a million copies. That was a wildly successful decade for NOFX as the band popularized the Warped Tour and was the flagship band for the skate/surf/snow culture of the 1990s.
NOFX 's career-long ban on doing the mainstream press and media was lifted as they sought to actively share their dissent for the Bush administration and speak out against the invasion of Iraq. And once the floodgates were open, NOFX and their "Rock Against Bush" movement were everywhere: Newsweek , Rolling Stone , New York Times , Howard Stern and network television. All that high-profile interest and hype was reflected in the success of their 2003 record "The War On Errorism" , which was the No. 1 independent record in the country at the time if its release and topped Billboard 's indie chart.

NOFX Announces Final Shows of Punk Legends’ Farewell Tour
By Daniel Kreps
Daniel Kreps
When punk legends NOFX first revealed plans for their farewell tour in September 2022, frontman Fat Mike promised, “Los Angeles will be the last place we play. It’s where we started, it’s where we’ll end.” Over two years later, the band has announced that their five-decade run will come to an end in October 2024 with a three-night stand in their native California.
Before that, however, NOFX have lined up another string of dates for their farewell tour, which was previously dubbed “40 Years, 40 Cities, 40 Songs” due to each gig’s unique 40-song setlist. However, the trek expanded overseas (including Australia and Europe) and now into 2024, with the next run of dates beginning April 6 in Fort Worth, Texas.

NOFX Announce Final Tour: “These Are the Very Last Shows”
"This is not a final tour like Mötley Crüe or Black Sabbath... We are done done."
NOFX will say goodbye to their fans with a farewell tour beginning this spring and running through 2024. The veteran punk band has just announced initial dates for what will eventually be a 40-city run.
The “Final Tour” is billed as “40 Years, 40 Cities, 40 Songs Per Day.” In announcing the farewell trek, NOFX have unveiled dates for eight cities thus far, including two “campout” weekends. The tour kicks off with a camping festival at Carson Creek Ranch in Austin, Texas, on April 22nd and 23rd, and also includes a similar two-day camping stop in Columbus, Ohio, on June 24th and 25th.
Per the press release, “NOFX will perform 40 songs a night, including full albums and rarities, plus they will never repeat a setlist to ensure that each show is unique.”
The campout in Austin will also feature Pennywise, Circle Jerks, Face to Face, and more.
Frontman Fat Mike affirmed that this will indeed be the band’s last-ever tour. “This is not a final tour like Mötley Crüe or Black Sabbath,” he stated. “These are the very last shows NOFX will ever be playing. We are gonna play with all our hearts… With all our joy… And then we are done. We are done done.”
First Comprehensive Punk Rock Museum Will Open in Las Vegas Led by Fat Mike
The singer-bassist previously declared in September that the band intended to break up after one final tour. While no further dates have been revealed, the press release does state that the final show will take place in Los Angeles in October 2024.
See the current dates for NOFX’s “Final Tour” below. Tickets will be available via the Punk in Drublic website beginning Friday (January 13th) at 10 a.m. PT.
NOFX “Final Tour” Dates: 04/22-23 – Austin, TX @ Carson Creek Ranch (campout) 05/13 – San Diego, CA 05/19-20 – Barcelona, ES 06/02 – Linz, AT 06/24-25 – Columbus, OH (campout) 07/22-23 – Tacoma, WA 09/16 – San Francisco, CA 09/30 – St. Petersburg, FL

NOFX have announced a pair of UK headline shows as part of their 2023 farewell tour – tickets will be available here .

This month saw NOFX detail a string of US dates , which are due to take place between April and September.
“This is not a final tour like Mötley Crüe or Black Sabbath ,” Fat Mike said in a statement. “These are the very last shows NOFX will ever be playing. We are gonna play with all our hearts…With all our joy…And then we are done. We are done done.”
Now, it’s been confirmed that Slam Dunk Festival will host “two extra standalone shows” that’ll serve as NOFX’s final-ever UK gigs.
The group will take to the stage at the event’s site at Temple Newsam in Leeds on May 26 before they head south to Hatfield Park on May 28.
“These are going to be ones not to be missed with 2 albums from their impressive back catalog being played in full each day plus loads more,” organisers wrote on social media yesterday (January 16).

Last month, NOFX guitarist Eric Melvin suggested the band could still release new music after retiring from touring . “He still wants to record and release records as NOFX,” Melvin said, referring to Fat Mike. “So we’ll see how that works because they kind of go hand-in-hand, but they don’t have to.”
NOFX released their latest album ‘Double Album’ in December 2022, while Fat Mike launched a new band called Codefendants , which he described as a “genre fluid musical collective — a cross between hip hop, new-wave, flamenco, and the Beatles”.

Hold on to your vintage Mickey Mouse ears, because NOFX is gearing up to make 2024 one for the books! Today, we’re thrilled to toss a bit of new NOFX music your way, including a video for their lead single, “I’m A Rat.” Give it a spin on your favorite digital haunt , or watch the music video featuring Micky getting frisky via our YouTube channel. The track is lifted from their upcoming release, Half Album , which drops on April 19th. Next, check out what Fat Mike had to share about their latest release below.
Was it worth it? Was it worth spending five years finishing the five songs on my double album project that I thought were the worst of the bunch? Was it a good idea to spend so much time raising the runts of the litter? Was it an error in judgement when I wrote a song about the magnitude of my arrogance? I think the answers to all these rhetorical questions might be found by listening to this half-sided album….. but I seriously doubt it.
Then, check out their tour dates , because 2024 is your last chance to catch them live! Japan, they’re heading your way next week. Plus, FAT will have a pop-up store in Tokyo with tons of exclusive merch. Stick close to NOFX and FAT on Instagram for the latest on all things NOFX !
Fat Mike has never done things by halves until now. As NOFX wind up their time on this planet after 40 years, the seminal punk band—completed by Eric Melvin, Erik ‘Smelly’ Sandin, and Aaron’ El Hefe’ Abeyta—have decided the time is right to do exactly that. Well, kind of. After 2021’s Single Album and 2022’s Double Album , NOFX’s latest release is called Half Album . Because that’s precisely what it is. The fifth side of their epic Double Album. “These songs were all recorded at the same time,” the frontman explains. “It just takes me a while to finish shit. So, this is me tying up loose ends, which is very good for the soul.”
If the phrase “tying up loose ends” sounds somewhat like Mike doesn’t care, he does. A lot because these aren’t just leftover songs or an afterthought. Put those two records and this EP—sorry, this half album—together, and you get what Mike considers an actual double album. And a good one at that. “I don’t think there are any good double albums,” he says. “ The White Album is a great album, but it’s not a great double album. There are a lot of shit songs on there. I don’t think there’s any shit songs on this—I wrote it to make a great double album.”
He put a lot of thought and effort into it, too. For example, the last song on Half Album is called “The Last Drag.” A counterpart to Single Album’s opener “The Big Drag,” it took Mike five years to finish, and not only brings the whole 25-song double album full circle (“They’re great bookends,” he proclaims) but also reveals the profound depth of his songwriting—something that people often overlook. “The Last Drag” song not only sees Mike sing from the point of view of one of his exes, but it incorporates a simultaneously humorous and depressing homage to Lesley Gore’s classic 1963 hit “It’s My Party.” It might not sound like it would work on paper, but it really does, mixing humor and pathos to devastating effect. “My ex went to Vegas to detox while we were doing [Mike’s musical] Home Street Home ,” he explains. “It was supposed to be for 10 days, and it was during the [adult video industry’s] AVN Awards, and she just had a two-and-a-half-week party with all her friends without her fiancé. So, if you read the lyrics, there are a lot of harsh words in there, but it really wasn’t easy to write from her point of view. That’s why it took me five years. And the fucked thing is, no-one’s going to understand what I’m singing about. They’ll think it’s me. Only she and I will know, and it’s going to bum her out. “He knows this because it already bums him out. “The worst thing is it didn’t even help,” he continues. “It’s just reliving bad memories. Thinking about it, writing lyrics about it, and going over it over and over—that’s not healthy. Not healthy.” If that’s the depressing note on which Half Album ends, what precedes it is a little less bleak. Opener “Fake-A-Wish Foundation” is the second NOFX song after the Single Album “My Bro Cancervive Cancer,” about a guy called Brett who pretended to have brain cancer to hang with bands and get free merch. It’s a gorgeous, lilting ballad that might sound sad but contains some truly comedic and biting lyrics. Then there’s “I’m A Rat”—written by Mike but first recorded by Japanese punk band Hi-Standard ,” and included on last year’s Fat Mike Gets Strung Out . It’s one of 14 NOFX songs so far, only recorded by other bands worldwide and not NOFX themselves. It is also remarkable that it contains 54 chords that aren’t repeated in a row. All three versions demonstrate what the world knows deep down but probably needs to be told again, which Mike is doing by including it in this release. “I want to be recognized as a great songwriter,” he admits, “which I’m not. But I will be within a couple of years. Punk rock songwriters are not known as songwriters. Take Brett Gurewitz from Bad Religion —unless you’re a punk rocker, he gets no credit. Tim Armstrong gets some because he writes for so many people, like Pink ! And some movie soundtracks, but he’s still not known for songwriting. My thing is thinking of things that haven’t been done. Thinking of things, the world’s missing, and why, and will it work?” If anyone can change that attitude about punk rock musicians, it’s Fat Mike. This is precisely why he wrote “The Humblest Man In The World.” After all, who else would or could write a balls-out punk rock song that aims directly at himself for not just wanting to be so recognized but knowing that he should and will be? “I’m calling myself out,” he admits, “because I’m not the humblest man in the world. And even saying that is the most arrogant thing you can say. I think I could be a better me with some humility. One of my big personality flaws is my arrogance. I see it and everyone else sees it, so I thought I’d just put it on the table with this song.” That track follows—”The Queen Is Dead.” Eagle-eared listeners will recognize it as a song that first appeared on, You’re Welcome , the Cokie The Clown full-length from 2019. This is a reworked, punked-up version of that original, but it’s no less powerful or poignant a tribute to its subject. As to why it’s included here again—well, it’s another way to prove the versatility of his songwriting. Which ultimately, it all comes down to that wish to be regarded as a great songwriter. “I like playing songs in different genres,” he says, “and a great song can be played in any genre. I just like to showcase that.” Though he has plenty more in the pipeline, Half Album isn’t the last record that NOFX will release. It is, however, the beginning of the end (or the end of the beginning of the future) of NOF X as we know them. It’s also proof, despite its title, that Fat Mike doesn’t do things by halves. This might be called Half Album , but it’s part of a much bigger legacy and an even greater whole.
