Open Trip Bromo – Ijen 2D/1N

The open trip Bromo - Ijen 2D/1N starts in Malang and is a shared tour with a max of 8 people. It is one of the most popular tours at Java, which you definitely can’t miss when you are traveling on Java.

During this tour, you will experience the beautiful sunrise from the best sun viewpoint at Bromo . You can discover the giant crater on foot or by riding a horse. You will also visit the Ijen Crater , located in Banyuwangi. We will make a trekking by night to witness the blue fire or the blue flame. Next to this you can enjoy the sunrise and its beautiful blue colored lake.

* Please notice that this tour is very intense and exhausting and only suitable for people with a reasonable to a good physical condition.

Pick up with a minivan at 01:00 midnight at your accommodation in Malang to start the trip to the parking lot nearby Bromo. From here the journey will be continued by jeep to the viewpoint Kingkong, the best viewpoint for a beautiful sunrise. After enjoying the sunrise, you will be taking to the parking area. From here you can walk to the majestic crater of Mount Bromo. If you don't want to walk, you can also ride on a horse to discover the crater. After exploring the area, you can have some breakfast and refreshment at the local facilities.

We continue our trip with the minivan to Banyuwangi. During the drive, we make several stops for lunch and resting. You will be dropped off at the accommodation in Licin for check-in, where you can have dinner in the restaurant and rest for the night tour to Ijen.

Pick up with a jeep at midnight 01:00 to start the night-tour to Ijen. From the crater rim you will be escorted by a local guide to the crater. Here you can witness the magical blue flame. You can enjoy the wonderful blue colored lake during and after sunrise. We walk back to the jeep to go back to the accommodation.

After breakfast and check-out at the accommodation, you will be dropped off at the harbor Ketapang. In just one hour you will cross over with a ferry to Bali. The estimated time of arrival at the harbor in Gilimanuk is 12:00.

Bromo and Ijen Tour: The Perfect 3-Day Route

Visiting the Bromo and Ijen crater is one of the popular reasons to visit Java in Indonesia. It is best to do this Bromo and Ijen tour via Malang. You can expect three days full of adventures and natural wonders. Driving across the wide-stretched sea of sand at Bromo, visiting the Coban Pelangi and Madakaripura waterfall, driving through Ngadas Village, the highest vegetable mountain area on Java.

Day 1 – Waterfall, Hill Farms & Savannah

The drive from Malang to Cemoro Lawang (Bromo village) is a beautiful two-hour drive with a 4×4 jeep. You will need a four-wheel-drive car since you will be climbing a lot towards Ngadas village. Just before entering the Ngadas region, you can visit the Coban Pelangi waterfall.

You can either see it from a viewpoint (5 min walk, 10000 IDR) or experience its power at the foot of the waterfall (Free). It is a 15-minute walk down over a well-paved path and definitely not too hard.

This 3-day Bromo and Ijen tour route starts in Malang but can be done the other way around, starting at Ijen from Bali .

Ngadas Village is a vegetable area (farms) located on steep hills. Not many foreign tourists pass this route as it is not a well-known way to follow the Bromo and Ijen tour.

After Ngadas, you will start descending into the Savannah, the flat area around Bromo. Drive around through the ‘Sea of Sand’, take some awesome photos with your jeep, and arrive at Cemoro Lawang (Bromo village) before sunset and visit the secret sunset viewpoint, which you can find in the article linked below.

Day 2 – Sunrise at Bromo

Make sure to head to bed early on day one and set the alarm at 2:45 AM. At 3 AM, your jeep will take you up to one of the viewpoints that look onto the Bromo volcano. Followed by visiting the actual crater and have a look inside an active volcano.

On that same day, make your way towards Ijen with a stop at the second-highest waterfall in Indonesia. The Madakaripura waterfall. As water cascades from all sides, you and your camera will get wet. Don’t worry; rain jackets are sold at the entrance. From Bromo to Ijen is a 4-hour drive.

Day 3 – Sunrise on Ijen

For your trip to the Ijen Crater Lake, you have to start hiking at 2 AM to experience the ‘Blue Fire’ or at 4 AM to experience sunrise on the lake. It is a 1.5-hour walk, so make sure to leave on time to not miss one or both of the above-named moments at Ijen.
