Gautam Budh Nagar gets ready to welcome the President today

President draupadi murmu slated to arrive in the district on tuesday, to attend the 7th india water week at the india expo centre in greater noida.

The twin cities of Noida and Greater Noida have been put under a tight security cover in view of Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath arriving in Gautam Budh Nagar on Monday evening for a two-day visit and President Draupadi Murmu slated to arrive in the district on Tuesday, to attend the 7th India Water Week at the India Expo Centre in Greater Noida.

Traffic movement will be stopped on Noida-Greater Noida Expressway for at least 10 minutes during President Murmu’s visit to the Expo Centre, senior traffic officers informed. (HT Photo)

Senior police officers said drone cameras and personnel from the central armed forces have been deployed in Greater Noida to strengthen security measures in light of the VVIP movement. The district police has banned the use of private drones in the city till November 2, senior officers said on Monday.

Deputy commissioner of police, Greater Noida, Abhishek Verma said a five layer ground-to-air security cordon has been put in place at the Expo Centre.

“A five-layer security cover comprising the National Security Guard, Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and Noida police will be in place at the venue. Nearly 2,000 security and traffic personnel will be deployed in and around the Expo Centre and nearby places. Anti-aircraft and anti-drone squads have also been activated,” said Verma.

While the President’s commandos will form the inner layer of the security cover, the NSG commandos will man the middle layer. The outer layer of the security cordon will be managed by ATS and the Noida police, he said.

“Personnel from the central armed forces such as Rapid Action Force (RAF) and Central Reserve Protection Force (CRPF) will be stationed at the venue,” said Verma.

Senior officials of district administration and Greater Noida authority also inspected the India Expo Centre on Monday ahead of the President’s visit.

Traffic movement will be stopped on Noida-Greater Noida Expressway for at least 10 minutes during President Murmu’s visit to the Expo Centre, senior traffic officers informed, adding that they have made elaborate arrangements on the route that the President is expected to take.

The police said regular traffic movement will be restricted for about 10-12 minutes, but did not specify when. The traffic will again be stopped for about 10 minutes to facilitate the return of the President’s motorcade after one hour.

Ashutosh Kumar, Noida traffic inspector, said the department has received information that the President will travel by road. “Police teams will be deployed along the stretch. The President is expected to visit around 11am and traffic will be restricted for at least 10-12 minutes. The restrictions may be increased depending on the situation,” he said.

PM Modi To Inaugurate Noida Airport on November 25: All You Need To Know

With the airport in noida, uttar pradesh will be home to five international airports.

PM Modi To Inaugurate Noida Airport on November 25: All You Need To Know

The airport will be located in Jewar, a suburb of Noida. (Representational)

Noida Airport will be the latest in the list of airports in Uttar Pradesh, following close on the heels of the recently inaugurated Kushinagar airport and the international airport at Ayodhya, which is under construction. It will also be the second international airport in the Delhi-NCR region.

The cost of development of the first phase of the Noida International Airport is estimated to be over Rs 10,050 crore. International bidder Zurich Airport International AG will be the concessionaire.

The airport will house 186 aircraft stands, a public transportation centre, a VVIP terminal, an airport hotel, an airport rescue and firefighting building, a state-of-art MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Overhauling) service as well as a rainwater harvesting pond, among other features.

The airport is spread over more than 1300 hectares of land . After the completion of the first phase, it will be able to host 1.2 crore passengers annually.

The Noida airport will be India's first net-zero emissions airport. Additionally, dedicated land has also been earmarked for the development of a forest park. Trees from the project site will be used in the park.

The Noida International Airport has been envisioned with an integrated multi-modal cargo hub, a first in India. The aim is to reduce the total cost and time for logistics.

The dedicated cargo terminal will have a capacity of 20 lakh metric tonne, which will be expanded to 80 lakh metric tonne.

The Noida International Airport will also develop a Ground Transportation Centre. This centre will provide services such as a multimodal transit hub, housing metro and high-speed rail stations, taxi, bus services and private parking, thereby enabling round-the-clock connectivity.

To reduce commuting time between Delhi and the Noida International Airport, it will be linked to the planned Delhi-Varanasi High-Speed Rail. This is expected to reduce the commute time to just 21 minutes.

Further, to make commuting easier, Noida and Delhi will be connected to the airport through metro service. Important roads and highways such as the Yamuna Expressway, Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, Western Peripheral Expressway, Eastern Peripheral Expressway, and others will also be connected to the airport.

Noida Airport: Over 3,000 police officers deployed into service ahead of PM Modi's visit to Jewar

Over 3,000 police personnel have been deployed into service in the Jewar area, keeping in mind the security arrangements for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to lay the foundation stone for the upcoming Noida International Airport on November 25.

Reportedly, the preparations have already begun for the grand ‘Bhoomi pujan’ ceremony of the Noida airport.

Quoting DCP (Greater Noida) Amit Kumar, TOI reported that more than 3,000 police personnel, including constables, head constables, sub-inspectors and inspectors, will be deployed to monitor and guard PM’s visit.

“While half of the police officials have been called from other districts, around 1,500 belong to Gautam Budh Nagar,” he added.

According to a report published in the Times of India (TOI), on Monday, a team of the Special Protection Ground (SPG) which is said to lead the security for this VVIP visit, reached the area to review security arrangements and other preparations. The team also took the opportunity to brief the local police officers about their duties and responsibilities.

As per reports, more than 500 police personnel have already been deployed at various spots and central and local intelligence units are also active in the area where the foundation stone will be laid.

However, NSG and UP ATS commandos will visit the place on Tuesday for added security near the site.

Five-layer security will be actively put in place for the event, including two units of Rapid Action Force, one unit of Indo-Tibetan Border Police, six companies of Provincial Armed Constabulary and civil police personnel, TOI revealed in its report.

It may be noted that several local BJP leaders, including Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh, GB Nagar MP, Dr Mahesh Sharma, Dadri MLA Tejpal Nagar, Sikandrabad MLA Bimla Singh Solanki and Khurja MLA Vijendra Singh have been regularly visiting the site to keep a check on the preparations ahead of PM’s visit.

North Carolina Welcomes a Historic Visitor in Japan's Prime Minister Kishida

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is cementing economic links and cultural amity with North Carolina by visiting the Tar Heel state after a few days in Washington focused on global security issues

(Robert Willett/The News & Observer via AP, Pool)

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida cemented economic links and cultural amity with North Carolina on Friday, following up time in Washington during his official U.S. visit by checking up on benchmark Japanese companies building in the ninth-most populous state and meeting with students.

In between, Kishida lunched at the governor’s mansion in Raleigh, a historic first for the head of a foreign country in the Tar Heel state. Japan is North Carolina’s largest source of foreign direct investment, where over 200 Japanese companies have now set up shop, employing over 30,000 people, according to Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper and his office.

“I am honored to be here in North Carolina to showcase the multilayered and strong ties between Japan and the United States,” Kishida said through a translator, inside the mansion ballroom, where about 60 people listened. The guest list included Democratic state Attorney General Josh Stein, Republican state House Speaker Tim Moore and executives of several Japanese and American companies in the region.

He called North Carolina “a state at the forefront of the times” and flexed his knowledge about its landmarks, mentioning Kill Devil Hills, where the Wright Brothers had their first successful flight, as an example of the state's ingenuity.

Until now, Kishida's trip to the U.S. had been focused on global safety. He met President Joe Biden to discuss security concerns about China’s military, participated in the first trilateral summit between the U.S., Japan and the Philippines, and made the case in an address to a joint session of Congress for the U.S. to remain involved in global security.

But Kishida, who has been Japan’s prime minister since 2021, said before his trip that he chose to stop in North Carolina to show that the Japan-U.S. partnership extends beyond Washington, according to a translation posted on his website.

Kishida, Cooper and others traveled to the Greensboro area for Friday morning visits to a Honda Aircraft Co. production facility, as well as to the construction site for a Toyota Motor Corp. electric and hybrid battery plant that is expected to ultimately employ more than 5,000 people.

Hours before Kishida and his wife arrived Thursday night at Raleigh-Durham International Airport, a subsidiary of another Japanese company, Fujifilm, announced an additional $1.2 billion investment in its upcoming biopharmaceutical manufacturing plant and another 680 jobs.

Chiaki Takagi, a Japanese studies lecturer at the University of North Carolina Greensboro, said this week that the prime minister's visit surprised her but that it could signal a “positive future partnership” between Japan and the U.S. and more Japanese workers coming to the state.

“This whole thing will provide the area with opportunities to be engaged in very active cultural exchange between Japan and the U.S.,” Takagi said.

The luncheon marked the first time a foreign head of state has visited the governor's mansion since record-keeping began in 1891, the state Department of Natural and Cultural Resources said.

“What a better way to start than with one of our closest allies and friends from the country of Japan, with whom we share so many common interests,” Cooper said at the luncheon. “So today we make history, welcoming our wonderful friends.”

Cooper has a history of visiting Japan, making two trips to Tokyo in 2017 and 2023 during his time as governor. When it was announced Kishida was coming to the U.S., Rahm Emanuel, U.S. ambassador to Japan, said during the luncheon Cooper was the first to call to ask for the prime minister to visit his state.

Guests dined on a three-course meal prepared by James Beard award-winning Raleigh chef Ashley Christensen, which included wagyu beef tenderloin and Carolina Gold Rice pudding. Meanwhile, additional members of the Japanese delegation and the governor's staff listened to live bluegrass music as they ate barbeque.

Kishida, Cooper and others went to North Carolina State University in Raleigh later Friday, where they met students ranging from those in middle school to adults studying Japanese. They visited the university's Japan Center, which was established by former Gov. Jim Hunt and others in 1980 following a state trade mission to Tokyo. North Carolina State also has long, formal ties with Japan's Nagoya University.

Earlier Friday, Kishida's wife, Yuko, and North Carolina first lady Kristin Cooper shared a traditional Japanese tea at Sarah P. Duke Gardens in Durham.
