Ringo Starr announces 2023 North American tour dates with All Starr Band

“I love playing with the All Starrs and can’t wait to be back out on the road again," the Beatles drummer said

ringo starr tour 2023 members

Ringo Starr has announced new dates for a 2023 North American tour accompanied by his All Starr band.

The former Beatles drummer will perform mostly at West Coast venues throughout May and June, including a three-night stint at the Venetian Theatre in Las Vegas. He’ll be joined on the 19-date tour by his All Starr bandmates Steve Lukather, Colin Hay, Edgar Winter, Warren Ham, Hamish Stuart and Gregg Bissonette.

Starr’s tour begins in California on May 19, with two successive dates in Phoenix following after. He will perform his Vegas residency after that, before a two-night outing in San Diego from May 28. The remaining itinerary consists of shows in Seattle, Denver and San Francisco, with the final date slated for California’s San Jose Civic venue on June 17. See the full list of tour dates below, and head here for tickets.

“It’s a new year and here are some new tour dates,” Starr said in a statement. “I love playing with the All Starrs and can’t wait to be back out on the road again with this band.”

The new tour comes after Starr was forced to cancel — on two occasions — a slew of dates for his 2022 tour after contracting COVID-19 . Prior to that, 12 dates of the same tour were postponed when Winter and Lukafather likewise tested positive for the virus. “[Ringo] hopes to resume [touring] as soon as possible”, a statement said at the time.

Starr’s most recent project, an EP titled ‘EP3’, arrived in September of last year. Before that, Starr put out his latest solo album, ‘What’s My Name’, in 2019. He shared two EPs in 2021: ‘Zoom In’ and ‘Change The World’ . In a three-star review upon its release, NME described ‘Zoom In’ as “the sort of upbeat, unrelenting jollity we expect from Ringo”.

Ringo Starr and All Starr Band’s 2023 North American tour dates are:

In October 2022, the former Fab Four drummer dropped the four-song “EP3” with his All-Starr Band.

Composed of feel-good anthems and sing-a-longs, somehow the lad from Liverpool is still bringing the goods.

U ltimate Classic Rock called the short offering “genuine and infectious.”

Talk about a fab time warp!

It was 50 years ago today — well, this year — that Ringo Starr recorded the John Lennon-penned song, “I’m The Greatest,” for his 1973 album, “Ringo.” It re-teamed the avuncular drummer and vocalist with Lennon and George Harrison, sparking rumors of a Beatles’ reunion that never came to pass.

Busier than ever, the two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Famer has two 2023 concert tours set and plans to release three EPs this year alone. ‘We’re off and running!’ he says

May 14, 2023

It was 50 years later — on Friday night — that Starr performed “I’m the Greatest,” nine numbers into his 2023 tour-opening concert at Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, an hour north of San Diego. And it was almost impossible not to smile when the legendary drummer sang the lines: “Now I’m only thirty-two / And all I wanna do is boogaloo!”

Hearing Starr, now a spry 82, enthusiastically deliver those lines half a century later is a kick. Ditto the fact he did so during a 126-minute concert that saw him on stage for all but two of the 24 songs performed — let alone just seven months after he and his All-Starr Band had to cut short their 2022 fall tour when he contracted COVID, not once, but twice last October.

Starr, still as slender as in his days with The Beatles in the 1960s, was well aware a half century had passed between his recording of “I’m The Greatest” and Friday’s concert.

“Fifty years from now, you’ll say: ‘Yeah, I saw him!” he told the sold-out crowd of 3,100. He then launched into his next selection, the 1966 Beatles’ favorite, “Yellow Submarine.”

A few minutes earlier, while introducing “Boys” — the 1960 hit by The Shirelles that Starr sang on The Beatles’ 1963 debut album — he said: “I’m going to do a song for you now from before most of you were born.”

Guitarist Steve Lukather and Ringo Starr, May 19, 2022, at Pechanga

There were some Millennials and Gen Z-ers in the audience, including a young woman in front of me who danced joyously during much of the concert. But the majority appeared to be graying baby-boomers who grew up in the 1960s when The Beatles were irrevocably transforming music and pop culture — and Starr was the most famous young rock drummer on the planet.

The passing of time also inspired quips at Pechanga from some of the members of his All-Starr Band, the 15th iteration of the group he has led since its inception in 1989.

“Do you remember 1976? What was it like?” Average White Band co-founder Hamish Stuart, 73, asked the audience as he led the All-Starrs — minus Starr — into a percolating version of AWB’s mid-1970s hit, “Cut the Cake.”

Toto guitarist Steve Lukather, now in his second decade with Starr, introduced “Hold the Line” as: “A song from when I was 20 years old — in 1927.” Explaining why his until recently full head of black hair is now white, Lukather told the audience: “At 65, you just say ‘F--- it!’ “

Levity aside, Starr and his six band mates didn’t kid around when it came to the music.

As in previous years, their repertoire mixed chestnuts from The Beatles’ songbook and Starr’s solo career with hits by the All-Starrs, whose other members include Edgar Winter and Men At Work’s Colin Hay. The lineup was completed by former David Lee Roth drum dynamo Greg Bissonette and former Toto and Kansas utility player Warren Ham, a quadruple-threat on saxophone, percussion, harmonica and vocals.

The concert opened with a spunky version of the 1957 Carl Perkins’ rockabilly gem, “Matchbox,” and concluded with a mashup of The Beatles’ “With a Little Help From My Friends” and the Plastic Ono Band’s “Give Peace a Chance.”

Ringo Starr, Hamish Stuart and Greg Bissonette at Pechanga Resort Casino, May 19, 2023

Starr alternated between enthusiastically singing at the front of the stage and delivering rock-solid drumming from a riser farther back. On several songs — including “Boys” and “I Wanna Be Your Man” — he sang while he drummed, just as he did all those years ago in the 1960s with The Beatles.

Stuart, who was a member of Paul McCartney’s band from 1988 to 1994, had the strongest voice of anyone in this edition of the All-Starrs.

Multi-instrumentalist Ham ably hit the high notes on Toto’s “Africa” and “Rosanna,” both of which featured the fleet-fingered Lukather as the nominal lead singer. Ham teamed with keyboardist and singer Winter for the rousing twin sax parts on Average White Band’s “Pick Up the Pieces” and “Cut the Cake,” the latter of which included a deft quote from the darting brass lines in Tower of Power’s “Down to the Night Club.”

The instrumental highlight of the night came during an extended, 12-minute rendition of the Edgar Winter Group’s 1972 hit, “Frankenstein.”

With Winter providing support on timbales, Bissonette delivered a dazzling solo that found him quoting the trademark drum parts from — among others — The Beatles’ “Day Tripper,” Led Zeppelin’s “Rock ‘n’ Roll” and “Immigrant Song,” the Rolling Stones’ “Honky Tonk Women” and the 1937 Gene Krupa/Benny Goodman landmark, “Sing, Sing, Sing.”

The show lagged a bit near the end with back-to-back readings of Men At Work’s “Who Can It Be Now” and Toto’s “Hold the Line” that overstayed their welcome.

But the closing volley of Starr’s “Photograph,” the Buck Owens-cum-Beatles romp “Act Naturally” and the mashup of “With a Little Help From My Friends” and “Give Peace a Chance” brought the night to a rousing conclusion. And watching Starr cap off the evening doing jumping jacks — while flashing the peace sign with both hands and smiling from ear to ear — well, that never gets old.

Ringo Starr reflects on All-Starr Band tour, the Beatles and more: 'I had a dream at 13'

ringo starr tour 2023 members

Ringo Starr and his bandmates have taken a break from rehearsals for their first show of the year to field reporters’ questions in a Zoom call, doing all they can to crack each other up while interacting more like old friends than a member of the world's most famous rock band and his latest batch of hired guns.

Rehearsals have been going great as they get reacquainted with the staples of an All-Starr Band performance, from the drummer’s own material to Edgar Winter singing “Free Ride” or Colin Hay dusting off Men at Work’s “Who Can It Be Now?”

“Yesterday, we ran the whole show and I feel ready to rock,” Starr says.

Toto guitarist Steve Lukather says he’s been “having the time of my life in this band, always have.”

Second drummer Gregg Bissonette says they’ve been “having the greatest time playing the greatest songs with the greatest — my drum hero, my dear pal. What a ball. What an honor."

Don't miss out: A Beatle and great restaurant deals are among this weekend's best happenings in Phoenix

'I don't want to sit in the hotel and relax,' Ringo Starr says

Starr is especially pleased to be heading back out on the road after being forced to cancel dates last year because of COVID-19.

“Last year was a bit awkward because the first tour went down, the second tour went down but we have great confidence we're gonna do all the gigs,” he says.

The drummer dismissed a question about how he stays healthy given such a grueling schedule.

“It's not grueling,” he says. “Playing has never been grueling. I love to play. I love to play with these guys. We are the best band in this room. It's not tiring. Nobody wants to tour, but you've gotta tour to play.”

He even had their booking agent add more dates to their initial tour plans.

“Dave Hart, who put the tour together, gave us too many days off,” Starr recalls. “So I complained. And he's filled in some of them now, because if I'm on the road, I want to play. I don't want to sit in the hotel and relax for three days. I want to get out there and play. It's just how I am. I just love to do it.”

Why Ringo Starr can play more shows a week than Paul McCartney

It's easier to go out there and do shows every night in this band “because everybody takes the weight,” he says, compared with how his former bandmate Paul McCartney tours, where’s he the focus of the show.

“ He has to have time off, you know, to get himself back together,” Starr says. “But because we're this crowd, we could play every night. I promise you, we could play every night.”

Then with the expert comic timing that became the stuff of legends at those early Beatles press conferences, he deadpans, “But Edgar needs a day off."

This, of course, inspired laughter all around.

What Ringo Starr has learned about doing the All-Starr Band

The legendary drummer launched his All-Starr Band in 1989. He’s had a bit of a rotating lineup through the years, especially at first.

Past members have included Joe Walsh, Nils Lofgren, Dr. John, Billy Preston, Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Clarence Clemons, Todd Rundgren, Dave Edmunds, Burton Cummings, Timothy B. Schmit, Randy Bachman, Mark Farner, Felix Cavaliere, John Entwistle, Jack Bruce, Peter Frampton and Mr. Mister’s Richard Page and Pat Mastelotto.

This year’s lineup features several familiar faces. Bissonnette has been on board since 2008, Lukather joined in 2012 and saxophonist Warren Ham has been an All-Starr since 2014. Winter, Hay and Hamish Stuart (Average White Band) have done several tours of duty.

“Well, I think I'm learning,” Starr explains. “When I first started putting All-Starr Bands together, we would change the band completely. We did that for 20 years ... because I thought that's what I had to do. Change the band. But this band is good for me. I'm ready.”

At an All-Starr Band performance works each musician gets a turn in the spotlight to perform their own hits in addition to backing the man of the hour on crowd-pleasing classics as timeless like "It Don't Come Easy," "I'm the Greatest," "Photograph" and "Octopus' Garden."

Lukather loves that aspect of these tours.

“I was sort of born and trained to be a studio musician since I was a teenager, so I love the challenge of playing other people's music,” he says.

“I have more fun playing their stuff than mine, I can tell you that. Plus playing all the great Ringo hits and Beatles stuff never gets old. It’s just a joy. This is not work. This is a vacation as far as I'm concerned.”

Tempe music history: How a backyard studio led to work with Bo Diddley, Burt Reynolds and 2 Beatles

Starr on the Beatles: 'I played in the greatest band in my world with three brothers'

It’s been 34 years since the drummer launched his first tour with the All-Starr Band and Starr sounds like he has no plans on slowing down.

“It's what I do,” he says. “I love to play. I love to play with great musicians. I love to play great songs. And I get all of that from these guys.”

It’s been that way since Liverpool, when he was playing skiffle with a group called Eddie Clayton and the Clayton Squares before grabbing the Beatles’ attention with his command of the beat and undeniable charisma as the drummer for another great Liverpool group, Rory Storm and the Hurricanes.

“I've played with a couple of good bands,” Starr says. “And I played in the greatest band in my world with three brothers. You know, I just love playing live, and it's difficult being a drummer and playing live because if I come on stage tonight just me and the kit, 'Hey, how you doing?'”

Starr begins to sing the chorus to the Beatles’ “Yellow Submarine” while playing air drums, much to his bandmates’ amusement.

Had he followed his dream of singing in bars while accompanying himself on piano, he figures he would be playing even more shows.

"But I need all these great guys behind me to play with me,” Starr says. “It's a band thing. I love being in a band. I may have my name but I'm in this band.”

As the conversation turns to favorite gigs, Starr says the best are always “last night and 1964.”

Why Ringo Starr has switched from making albums to EPs

The drummer also talks about the string of EPs he’s released since his last full-length effort, “What’s My Name,” arrived in late 2019.

“I just felt an EP, you can sort of look at it in a serious way and you can do it in a month,” he says. “An album does take longer. So that's what I've been doing.”

The third of those EPs, “EP3,” hit the streets in September. He just finished recording another before rehearsals started for this tour.

There’s another EP in the works with Linda Perry, who’s writing all the songs. As Ringo says, “The only thing I'll be doing on that EP is playing drums and singing.

He’s also working on a country music EP. “But that won’t be out until next year,” he says.

'I had a dream at 13. I wanted to be a drummer'

In the meantime, he’s got shows to play.

“I had a dream at 13. I wanted to be a drummer,” Starr says. “And that dream is still going on. So my life is easy.”

Playing music is “something I do and that I love to do,” he says. “I've never once not loved doing it.”

As part of the promotion for the release of his upcoming EP Crooked Boy , Starr stopped by Amoeba Records in Hollywood on April 18 with Linda Perry . The four-song collection – "February Sky," "Adeline," "Gonna Need Someone," and "Crooked Boy" – was written and produced by the Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee and in turn, she sent them to Starr for drumming and vocal contribution.

"Linda put the whole thing together," Starr explained when asked how the collaboration came together. "During the pandemic, I just decided to make EPs. I was determined to work with people I hadn't worked with before and Linda was one of them, a great songwriter." Perry in turn acknowledged Starr's influence early in her life. "I was brought up with this incredible music of the Beatles, watching Ringo and him always being my favorite, 'cause I thought he was the most charming and funniest one."

Perry also came up with the image for the album, a photo taken in February 1964 in Miami Beach by photographer Harry Benson. Benson had been traveling with the Beatles on that fateful trip to America and snapped Starr in his swim trunks during the band's trip there for the Ed Sullivan broadcast from the Deauville Hotel.

Starr did let slip during the Amoeba Records appearance that he's in the middle of making another record, "a 10-tracker," but quickly got back to the record at hand. In honor of Record Store Day the Crooked Boy EP will be available in a 2,000-only pressing on black and white marble vinyl.

Crooked Boy will be released digitally on April 26. Black vinyl and CD formats will be available May 31.

“Ultimately what’s most impressive about Ringo Starr isn’t what he’s been, but rather who he is,” wrote  Rolling Stone  rock critic David Wild. “The man’s great heart and soul, his wit and wisdom.” Indeed, his music has always emanated from his warmth, humor, and exceptional skill, manifesting in songs we know and love:  With A Little Help From My Friends, Don’t Pass Me By, Octopus’ Garden, Photograph, It Don’t Come Easy, Back Off Boogaloo ,  You’re Sixteen  (You’re Beautiful and You’re Mine),  Don’t Go Where the Road Don’t Go ,  The No No Song , and  Never Without You,  to name a few. Since beginning his career with The Beatles in the 1960s, Ringo has been one of the world’s brightest musical luminaries. He has enjoyed a successful, dynamic solo career as a singer, songwriter, drummer, collaborator, and producer – releasing 18 solo studio albums to date. He is also an acclaimed actor appearing in over 15 films. Drawing inspiration from classic blues, soul, country, honky-tonk and rock ‘n’ roll, he continues to play an important recording, touring, and unofficial mentoring role in modern music.

Born Richard Starkey on July 7, 1940 “at a very young age” he knew from very early on what he wanted to do. “When I was 13, I only wanted to be a drummer,” remembers Ringo. Four years later, he joined the Eddie Clayton Skiffle Band, and in 1959 hooked up with the Raving Texans, who later became Rory Storm and the Hurricanes. Just three years after that, Ringo was asked to join The Beatles. Worried that he might cost the Hurricanes a summer-long residency if he left, he delayed his departure until they could find a replacement. On August 18, 1962, Ringo Starr officially joined Paul McCartney, John Lennon, and George Harrison in what would become one of the most important popular music acts of all time, or as Ringo says, “the biggest band in the land.”

In 1970, EMI released Ringo’s first solo album,  Sentimental Journey . It was exactly that: a record of the music he’d grown up with and which remained close to his heart. (He later said, “I did it for my Mum.”) Ringo followed up a year later with  Beaucoups Of Blues , a country and western album recorded in Nashville with Pete Drake in just two days. That same year, The Beatles disbanded.

But Ringo’s passion for creating music continued to propel him and those around him forward. In 1971, he began his unprecedented run as the first solo Beatle to score seven consecutive Top 10 singles, starting with “It Don’t Come Easy.” His second hit single, “Back Off Boogaloo” followed in 1972, and was written with and inspired by T. Rex frontman Marc Bolan. Ringo released his eponymous smash hit album in 1973. It yielded three Top 10 singles, including the #1 hits “Photograph” and “You’re Sixteen (You’re Beautiful And You’re Mine). The album  Ringo  also marked the first time since The Beatles’ break-up that all 4 band members participated in the same project (though not at the same time).

The 1970’s also saw Ringo expand on his film career, which began in the 1960’s with The Beatles films,  Hard Days Night  in 1964,  Help!  In1965 followed by  Magical Mystery Tour  in 1967. In 1968 he starred in  Candy  and in 1969 he co-starred opposite friend Peter Sellers in the critically acclaimed  Magic Christian . In 1970 the documentary  Let It Be  was released, and in 1971 Ringo starred in  Blindman . In 1974 he joined his best friend Harry Nilsson in  The Son of Dracula,  narrated Harry’s animated film  The Point  and appeared in Frank Zappa’s  200 Motels . In 1973 he co-starred as a Teddy Boy in  That’ll Be The Day , in 1975 in Ken Russell’s  Lisztomania  and in 1976 joined The Band for their legendary final concert filmed by Martin Scorcese,  The Last Waltz.

Between 1974 and 1978, Ringo released such hits as the Top 10 singles “Only You (And You Alone)” and “The No No Song,” and the albums  Goodnight Vienna  (1974),  Blast From Your Past  (1975),  Rotogravure  (1976),  Ringo The 4th  (1977), and  Bad Boy  (1978), which was complemented by a television special,  Ognir Rats , with Art Carney, Angie Dickinson, Carrie Fisher and Vincent Price. In 1979 he appeared in the documentary on The Who,  The Kids Are All Right  and in 1981 Ringo starred in  Caveman,  where he met and soon married his beautiful co-star Barbara Bach. “I fell in love with her the moment I saw her getting on the plane, and I’ve been blessed that she has loved me since.” That same year he recorded  Stop and Smell the Roses , his most critically acclaimed record since  Ringo , followed two years later by  Old Wave , for which he teamed up with producer Joe Walsh of The Eagles. In 1984 he appeared in Paul McCartney’s film  Give My Regards To Broadstreet . A hits collection,  Starr Struck: The Best Of Ringo Starr, Vol. 2 , was released in 1989.

In 1989 Ringo assembled his first All Starr Band and he found consistent success as a live act with his revolving All Starrs. “I got asked if I’d be interested in putting a band together,” Ringo would later recount. “I had been thinking the same thing, and so I went through my phone book, rang up a few friends and asked them if they’d like to have fun in the summer.” Those friends included Joe Walsh, E-Streeters Clarence Clemmons and Nils Lofgren, former Band members Rick Danko and Levon Helm, Dr. John, Billy Preston, and Jim Keltner. The tour met with great success, yielding his first live album,  Ringo and His All Starr Band , in 1990. “I’ve said this over and over again,” Ringo remarked, “but I love being in a band.”

The 1990s saw some of the best records of Ringo’s career. In 1992, he released  Time Takes Time , which The New York Times hailed as “Starr’s best: more consistently pleasing than  Ringo , it shows him as an assured performer and songwriter.” Later that year, Ringo put together his second All Starr Band, featuring Zak Starkey (his son), Burton Cummings, Dave Edmunds, Nils Lofgren, Todd Rundgren, Timothy B Schmidt, and Joe Walsh. It marked the first time Ringo had toured Europe since his Beatles days. The band’s second incarnation also yielded a new concert album,  Ringo Starr and His All Starr Band – Live From Montreaux . The third All Starr Band toured the U.S. and Japan in 1995, again featuring Zak Starkey, as well as John Entwistle, Felix Cavaliere, Mark Farner, Billy Preston, Mark Rivera and Randy Bachman;  Ringo Starr and His Third All Starr Band, Vol. 1  was release in 1997. The fourth band — with Gary Brooker, Jack Bruce, Peter Frampton, Simon Kirke and Mark Rivera — toured the U.S. and Europe, and with them Ringo became the first former Beatle to play in Russia.

1998 brought the release of  Vertical Man , recorded with Mark Hudson, and the first collaboration between Ringo and “the Roundheads.” It was one of his strongest records, due largely to his deep involvement as drummer, singer, co-writer, and co-producer. He followed with an appearance at NYC’s Bottom Line and on VH1’s “Storytellers.” 1999 began with the creation of the 5th All Starr Band, consisting of Gary Brooker, Jack Bruce, Timmy Cappello, Simon Kirke and Todd Rundgren. In October that year, Starr released the irrepressibly festive holiday album  I Wanna Be Santa Claus , mixing classics like “The Little Drummer Boy” with originals like the title track. The 6th All Starr Band was launched in 2000 and featured Jack Bruce, Eric Carmen, Dave Edmunds, Simon Kirke and Mark Rivera touring the U.S. together. The following spring, Ringo put together the 7th band, including the first female All Starr, Sheila E, as well as Greg Lake, Roger Hodgson, Ian Hunter, Howard Jones and Mark Rivera. He celebrated more than a decade of All Starr tours with the release of  Ringo and His All Starr Band: The Anthology, So Far .

In 2003, The Roundheads launched the release of  Ringo Rama  with another impromptu Bottom Line performance. 2003’s 8th group of All Starrs — Paul Carrack, Sheila E., Colin Hay, Mark Rivera and John Waite — hit the road, their tour resulting in another live album,  Ringo Starr and His All Star Band: Tour 2003  and DVD. “If you look at all the bands I’ve put together, it’s an incredible array of musicians, all these different people,” Ringo said of the All Starr experience. “Everyone has hit records, hit songs. The show consists of me up front and then I go back behind the kit and support the others. It’s just good music and I’m having a lot of fun and that’s what it’s all about – great music and fun.”

Genesis Publications printed a limited edition 2004 run of Ringo’s book,  Postcards From The Boys , the proceeds of which went to the Lotus Foundation charity. He described it as “a presentation of postcards John, Paul and George have sent me over the years. What’s incredible about them is that some are actual art pieces.” His  Choose Love  album, full of inspired songs of innocence and experience, was released in 2005. Two years later, Capitol/EMI Music Catalog Marketing released the first-ever career and label-spanning collection of Ringo’s best solo recordings,  PHOTOGRAPH: The Very Best Of Ringo Starr , featuring 20 standout tracks released between 1970 and 2005.

Ringo released  Liverpool 8 , his first new album with Capitol/EMI since 1974’s Goodnight Vienna, in 2008. He co-wrote its 12 original tracks, recording them in the UK and California, and the title track became the first in a series of autobiographical songs. That summer, he toured with his 10th All Starr Band — Gregg Bissonette, Colin Hay, Billy Squier, Hamish Stuart, Edgar Winter, and Gary Wright, across the U.S. and Canada, winding up at The Greek Theater in Los Angeles with a show recorded and later released as a live DVD by UMe. That summer also launched a tradition of celebrating his birthday, July 7, in and with the public and a global call to action for to say, think or do “Peace & Love” at Noon your local time, the birthday wish being a moment of “Peace & Love” would spread around the world. The first event occurred outside the Hard Rock Café in Chicago.

Y NOT , the first album Ringo himself produced, came out in 2010, showcasing collaborations with old and new friends, Paul McCartney among them. Their duet and the album’s stunning first single, “Walk With You,” served as a moving tribute to the power of friendship. Ben Harper also sang on the album, his band supporting Ringo on a promotional tour for the release. Ringo received a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame and launched a tour with his 11th All Starr Band: Gregg Bissonette, Rick Derringer, Wally Palmer, Richard Page, Edgar Winter, and Gary Wright. Over the following year, the band would tour the US, Canada, Europe and Latin America. On July 7, 2010 Ringo celebrated another “Peace & Love” birthday with family, friends and thousands gathered outside the Hard Rock Café in Times Square, New York City. The following year, while on tour with All Starrs, Ringo held a “Peace & Love” birthday event outside the Hard Rock Café in Hamburg Germany.

Ringo 2012 , again produced by its namesake, featured 9 tracks, including new versions of “Wings,” and “Step Lightly.” In June that year, Ringo assembled His 12th All Starr Band — Gregg Bissonette, Richard Page, Steve Lukather, Mark Rivera, Gregg Rolie and Todd Rundgren — who would, by 2013, tour through the U.S., Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Mexico, and South America. The live DVD  Ringo at the Ryman  was recorded with this band as well, on Ringo’s birthday, July 7, 2012. Earlier they all convened for a moment of “Peace & Love” in front of the Hard Rock Café Nashville.

In June 2013, The GRAMMY Museum opened “Ringo: Peace & Love,” a record-breaking undertaking that drew more than 120,000 visitors and was the first major exhibit to focus on a drummer. In September 2013 Ringo was awarded the prestigious French Medal of Honor, being appointed Commander of Arts & Letters in recognition of his musical and artistic contributions.

December 2013 saw the publication of  Photograph , a limited edition collection of never-before-seen material, including Ringo’s photos and exclusive images from his own personal archives, was published that December. It featured over 300 photos and 15,000 words of text.

On January 20, 2014 Ringo Starr’s musical legacy was celebrated when The David Lynch Foundation honored him with the ‘Lifetime of Peace & Love Award’. The event included star-studded tributes to Ringo’s extensive catalog that was broadcast on AXS July 13, 2014.  Participating artists included Joe Walsh, Ben Harper, Ben Folds, Brendan Benson, Bettye LaVette, The Head & The Heart and Jesse Elliot and Lindsey McWilliams of Ark Life, with an equally stellar backing band featuring Don Was, Benmont Tench, Peter Frampton, Steve Lukather and Kenny Arnoff.

January 26, 2014 saw Ringo perform his song “Photograph” on the GRAMMYS, followed by him jumping on the kit during his old band mate, Paul McCartney’s performance. Ringo and Paul then performed together again the following evening, this time playing several songs for the Emmy Award-nominated taping of CBS’ “The Beatles, A Grammy Salute; The Night That Changed America,” celebrating the 50th Anniversary of their first U.S. visit and appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show.  It was broadcast on the exact anniversary, February 9, and aired again February 12. It has also been broadcast internationally.

In February 2014, Simon & Shuster published “Octopus’s Garden”, a children’s book based on Ringo’s lyrics. That summer Ringo took the 12th All Starr Band back out on the road, adding another leg in October 2014. “I just love this band and I’m doing anything to keep it together – we keep looking for places we haven’t played yet and we’ll end up playing clubs,” Ringo joked with reporters when the band launched the summer dates in June 2014.

In July 7, 2014 Ringo celebrated his birthday with his traditional Peace & Love event at Capitol Records in LA, this time joined by John Varvatos who revealed Ringo would be the model for his 2014 Fall Fashion Advertising campaign, coupled with a social media initiative, #PeaceRocks that raised funds and awareness for the David Lynch Foundation via The Ringo Starr Peace & Love Fund. “I’ve waited a long time to become a male model,” Ringo said with a laugh, “and what a great way to do it – all for a good cause.

In March 2015 Ringo released “Postcards From Paradise” (UMe) featuring 11 original tracks and his very first single written and recorded with his All Starr Band, “Island In the Sun”. “I have tried for 25 years from the first All-Starr band to get us to write songs and record. It’s just something that I’ve wanted to do,” Ringo explained. “the song started as a jam at a soundcheck. We all wrote it and we all played on it, and it’s the first time ever!”

In April 2015 he was inducted by Paul McCartney into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist for Musical Excellence, performing his songs with Paul, Joe Walsh and Green Day. In July Ringo returned to Capitol Records for his 75th birthday joined by family, friends and gathered fans for a special “Peace & Love” celebration. In September 2015 Ringo’s book  Photograph  was released worldwide in a mass hardcover edition, and in October 2015 Ringo and the All Starrs went back out on the road performing 21 shows in 31 days throughout North America.

Throughout his career he has received 9 Grammys, has twice been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame first as a Beatle and then as solo artist. Between 1970 and 2015 Ringo has released 18 solo studio records. He has acted in over 15 films, received an Academy Award, and was nominated as an actor for an Emmy. Ringo has published three books; had a stint as a male fashion model and that same year went behind the lens for the Foo Fighters PR shots.

For all his many creative successes, Ringo is and always will be first and foremost a musician, a drummer. Ringo’s candor, wit and soul are the lifeblood of his music. As he sang on the autobiographical  Liverpool 8 , “I always followed my heart and I never missed a beat.” Peace and love are his life’s rhythm and melody, and he propels this universal message in everything he does: his evocative artwork, his enthused live performances, his legendary songs, all imbued with the joy, reflection, and wisdom of the music icon the world knows and loves simply as ‘Ringo.’

Legendary Beatles drummer  Ringo Starr is returning to Mohegan Sun Arena on Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. with his longtime touring act, His All Starr Band.

The lineup of the All Starr Band this year will be Steve Lukather (the guitarist and songwriter from Toto), Edgar Winter (the guitarist whose 1970s hits included “Frankenstein” and “Free Ride”), Colin Hay (the singer-songwriter who fronted the ‘80s band Men at Work), saxophonist Warren Ham (who has played with Toto and Kansas), Hamish Stuart (the guitarist/bassist/vocalist from Average White Band) and Gregg Bissonette (the drummer who has played with everyone from Maynard Ferguson to David Lee Roth to Enrique Iglesias).

Many of the musicians have toured regularly through Connecticut with other bands. Hay played the Garde Arts Center in New London earlier this month. Lukather will be with Toto when the band plays Total Mortgage Arena in Bridgeport on April 29.

This is the same lineup the band has had for the last few years, including when it was last in Connecticut at the Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater in Bridgeport in September 2022.

The last time Ringo Starr and His All Starr Band played at Mohegan Sun Arena was in June 2012. The band played the Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford in 2014 and 2018 and at Foxwoods in 2015.

Starr was inducted into the Mohegan Sun Walk of Fame in 2010.

One of the two surviving former Beatles, Ringo Starr had a spate of solo hits in the 1970s, including “Photograph” and “It Don’t Come Easy” and has released 20 solo albums in the past 53 years. He formed the All Starr Band as a touring project in 1989. The band performs Starr’s hits and select Beatles songs (especially the ones he originally sang lead on, like “A Little Help from My Friends” and “Octopus’ Garden”) as well as signature numbers from members of the band (among them Average White Band’s “Cut the Cake,” Toto’s “Rosanna” and Men at Work’s “Who Can It Be Now?”).

The Mohegan Sun date was announced Thursday as part of a run of nine cities in September. The band is also touring in May/June but not in Connecticut.

Tickets for the show go on sale April 26 at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster, then through the Mohegan Sun box office starting April 27. More details on the tour are at ringostarr.com .
