Cameron Robbins, a Louisiana resident, was celebrating his high school graduation when he was reportedly dared to jump overboard on a cruise.

EXCLUSIVE: A group of students tried to physically stop Cameron Robbins from jumping off a Bahamas cruise ship last week after he was reportedly dared to take the leap, Fox News Digital has learned.

Robbins, 18, was on Blackbeard's Revenge sunset cruise with several hundred high school graduates from Baton Rouge, Louisiana , and jumped overboard into what authorities called "shark-infested" waters near the uninhabited Athol Island, northeast of Nassau, around 9:30 p.m. on May 24.

A woman whose son was friends with Robbins and on the boat at the time told Fox News Digital that several students tried to grab Robbins before he took the plunge, but he broke free.

The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said many of the students were part of a close-knit community that was in shock, disbelief, exhausted and cold as the U.S. Coast Guard , Royal Bahamas Defence Force and United Cajun Navy searched the waters until about 3 a.m.

The small, pirate-lookalike cruise ship was anchored throughout the night, and the students were stuck at sea near the uninhabited island in what Royal Bahamas Defense Force Commodore Raymond King called "shark-infested waters."

Experts have told Fox News Digital there is a vast array of marine life, including dolphins, tiger sharks and bull sharks in those waters that feed off the scraps from the boats.

"This was a booze cruise, and they were on their way back when this happened," the one student's mother said. "My son texted me when it happened, saying, ‘Cameron jumped off. They can’t find him.' They were out there until 2, 3 in the morning.

"It was terrible weather that night. The kids were cold, wet and traumatized. The girls were in bikinis and bathing suits. The guys were giving them their shirts. It was a bad time to bring drunk 18-year-olds out into waters near this island where there's nothing."

The two-day, 325-mile search for Robbins was called off Friday night. "We offer our sincerest condolences to Cameron Robbins’ family and friends," the U.S. Coast Guard said in a statement.

The viral cellphone video of Robbins in the water, which was seen over 10 million times, went through virtually every type of edit on social media after a speculation-fueled narrative that Robbins encountered a shark gripped people's curiosities.

The video appears to show a shadowy object in the water move toward the recent high school grad, who was swimming toward a life preserver before changing direction.

However, the cellphone footage is too dark and chaotic to definitively show what happened, and the theory is no longer officially being investigated at the request of Robbins' family, Brian Trascher, spokesperson for the United Cajun Navy, told Fox News Digital on Friday.

Authorities officially designated Robbins as "lost at sea," which is the same as a death certificate, and a memorial service for Robbins will be held Sunday at Broadmoor United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the Robbins Family during this incredibly difficult time. Out of respect for the Robbins family’s privacy, we feel it’s inappropriate to comment on the details surrounding the night of the incident.

"Bahamian Authorities have been conducting a thorough investigation of the incident and can provide the most accurate information once they have completed their investigation."

He has "been here throughout his entire educational career. He's an athlete, great kid, great smile, great head of hair. Just one of the kids you're so proud of when they cross the stage," George said.

A Terrifying Theory About Missing Teen Cameron Robbins Has Been Circulating on Social Media

Jennifer Tisdale - Author

Jun. 1 2023, Published 11:15 a.m. ET

Cameron Robbins (L)

Graduating from high school is an important milestone in the lives of most young people. It's the first indication that adulthood is looming, and one's childhood is getting smaller in the rearview mirror. Some mark the occasion with a trip to kick off the summer, which is exactly what 18-year-old Cameron Robbins was doing with his friends when they took a trip to the Bahamas.

Unfortunately the vacation took a tragic turn when, on May 24, 2023, Cameron jumped from a pirate ship during a sunset cruise. Video of the moment he leapt into the water has circulated on social media, and shows the teen quickly disappearing. He hasn't been seen since. Why did Cameron Robbins jump overboard? Here's what we know.

Cameron Robbins (L) on graduation day.

Why did Cameron Robbins jump from the Bahamian boat?

According to the New York Post , Cameron's decision to jump into the Bahamian waters was based on a dare. The incident occurred around 9:40 p.m., mere hours after he and his friends arrived. It was filmed and has since made the rounds on social media . In the video, Cameron is seen splashing in the water while someone says, "This kid f---ing jumped off." Others can be heard screaming, "Oh, bye! Bye! S--t!" Soon after, Cameron vanishes.

The owners of the pirate ship spent several hours searching the waters for Cameron, to no avail. The United States Coast Guard reported that they also "searched more than 325 square miles." In a statement, Lt. Cmdr. Matthew Spado, Coast Guard liaison officer to the Bahamas, said, "U.S. Coast Guard District Seven deployed multiple search and rescue assets in response to an agency assistance request from our partners in the Royal Bahamas Defence Force." It lasted until Friday, May 26.

At which point, the Coast Guard decided to call off the rescue efforts "pending further developments." In a statement obtained by WAFB , the Robbins family shared they were returning to Baton Rough, La. "We want to thank the Bahamas government, the US Coast Guard, the United Cajun Navy, and Congressman Garrett Graves for everything they have done for us," they said. "In this time of grief we thank our family, friends, and well-wishers for granting us the privacy we need to properly remember our son and mourn his loss."

Some believe the theory that Cameron Robbins was the victim of a shark attack.

In the video that depicts Cameron swimming in the Bahamian water, two light shapes are to his left by the life preserver. Initially, Cameron is swimming towards the floating device before he appears to change his mind. It looks as if he saw what appears to be sharks, and attempted to swim away.

The camera footage swings back towards the boat for a brief moment, and returns in time to see something bump up against his legs. Half a second later, Cameron is gone. In a slowed down video posted to Twitter , you can see the shapes more clearly and it's absolutely horrifying.

Slowed down footage of Cameron Robbins. It appears He stares at something in the water, then you see a white shark, he turns and swims away, then it appears the shark grabbed him by the legs #cameronrobbins #breaking #news pic.twitter.com/wNhQlcuz36 — That Guy Shane (@ProfanityNewz) May 31, 2023

One Twitter user wrote , "The video of Cameron Robbins getting pulled down by a shark messed me up. One theory is it was an oceanic white tip shark." They went on to say, "So now I’ve watched three YouTube videos about that species as well as a video about the USS Indianapolis where some Navy sailors suffered the same fate in 1945."

This theory is certainly plausible as the Bahamas are a hotspot for sharks says the Shark Explorers website . These folks are a group of professional divers and marine biologists who organize shark diving trips, so it's safe to say they know what they're talking about. And while shark attacks are rare, they aren't impossible. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Cameron Robbins.

Cameron Robbins’ parents break silence over loss of teen who jumped off party boat in Bahamas

The parents of an 18-year-old high school graduate who fell overboard on a sunset cruise in the Bahamas have broken their silence.

Cameron Robbins went on a trip to the Bahamas to celebrate his graduation from the University Laboratory School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He and several friends were aboard the Blackbeard’s Revenge cruise on 24 May when Cameron allegedly jumped off the boat on a dare.

The US Coast Guard and Royal Bahamas Defence Force spent several days searching for Cameron before suspending their efforts on 27 May. Following his presumed death, a memorial was planned for the teenager on Sunday (4 June).

Speaking from their home ahead of the service, Cameron’s parents William and Shari Robbins, both 54, told The New York Post they were aware of the impact their “funny and kind-hearted” son had made on people following updates of the tragic incident believed to have cut his life short.

“We are just mourning our son right now,” Ms Robbins told the Post . “We appreciate you calling. Maybe we will be able to talk more later.”

“We appreciate everyone’s support,” Mr Robbins also said.

The University Lab School Director Kevin George told WAFB that Cameron had attended the school for 13 years. The teen also played baseball for the school, which operates as part of Louisiana State University.

“Words fall short of expressing the worry our entire school community is feeling. Extra counselors will be available on campus to speak with students and faculty who are struggling to process this news. Our thoughts are with the Robbins family, and we ask that you keep them in your thoughts as well,” Mr George wrote.

The graduation trip was not organised by the school.

According to his obituary, Cameron was not only an accomplished athlete but also loved country music and was a “big star” in karaoke.

“He was a tough player, battling back from multiple injuries, known to pitch through separated shoulders and broken hands. He hoped to continue his baseball career at the college level,” the tribute read. “...Though he left this world far too soon, he lived a life full of good friends and family.”

In a statement provided to The Independent, Jonathan Chia, a representative for Pirates’ Revenge Ltd, the parent company of Blackbeard’s Revenge, said Cameron went overboard at approximately 9.40pm local time in Montagu Bay off Athol Island in the Bahamas.

Video captured in the moments after Cameron jumped into the water showed the 18-year-old swimming around the vessel as passengers on the sunset cruise yelled at him. In the footage, individuals can be heard urging Cameron to grab onto the buoy that they threw into the water for him.

“The crew executed the ‘man overboard’ protocol in line with all approved safety procedures and company policies to ensure the best chance of retrieving an individual who has gone overboard,” Mr Chia said.

After Coast Guard crews searched more than 325 square miles, they concluded their efforts with the Royal Bahamas Defence Force on 27 May. Although searches have ended, the US Coast Guard is asking anyone with new information to contact the District Seven watchstanders at 305-415-6800.

A GoFundMe has been started to benefit Cameron’s family as they deal with the aftermath of the difficult situation.

Meanwhile, online speculation has swirled over whether Cameron was attacked by a shark in the water.

The US Coast Guard has suspended a search for a missing Louisiana teenager who reportedly jumped off a boat on a dare during a high school graduation trip to the Bahamas .

Cameron Robbins, 18, was celebrating with students from University High Lab School in Baton Rouge when he fell from the Blackbeard’s Revenge sunset cruise at about 11.30pm on Wednesday, a Lousiana State University (LSU) spokesperson told WBRZ .

A massive two-day operation conducted by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) and US Coast Guard using helicopters and surveillance aircraft failed to yield any trace of the teenager, and the search was called off on Friday, the Coast Guard said in a statement.

Robbins had arrived in the Bahamas with students from several Baton Rouge high schools on a graduation holiday just a few hours before he disappeared, a parent told WAFB .

Witnesses told the local news site that Robbins was acting on a dare when he fell from the boat.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force has said it is investigating the claims.

Robbins fell from the boat near Athol Island, northeast of Nassau, the US Coast Guard said .

Video obtained by WBRZ appears to show the teenager splashing in the water and swimming alongside the boat before disappearing.

The cruise ship, which is designed to look like a pirate ship, searched for several hours for the missing student, witnesses told the news site.

Robbins’ family flew out to the Bahamas on Thursday, according to WAFB .

In a statement, the family said it was returning to Raton Rouge after the search was called off.

“We want to thank the Bahamas government, the US Coast Guard, the United Cajun Navy, and Congressman Garrett Graves for everything they have done for us,” the statement read, according to USA Today .

“In this time of grief, we thank our family, friends, and well-wishers for granting us the privacy we need to properly remember our son and mourn his loss.”

Friends and school teachers gathered at University High Lab School, which is run by LSU’s College of Human Sciences and Education, gathered for a prayer circle at the school last week.

Robbins’ high school baseball coach Justin Morgan told CNN he was a “fierce competitor” who played third baseman and pitcher.

Kevin George, the director of LSU’s College of Human Sciences and Education, told the network in an interview that Robbins had attended the school for 13 years.

“He’s an athlete, great kid, great smile, great head of hair. Just one of the kids you’re so proud of when they cross the stage,” Mr George told CNN.

In a news release on Friday, the US Coast Guard said: “We were informed by the RBDF this evening that they were suspending the active search efforts pending further developments, and were not requesting further Coast Guard assistance after notifying the Robbins family.

“We offer our sincerest condolences to Cameron Robbins’ family and friends.”

Coast Guard ends search for missing Louisiana teen who fell overboard in the Bahamas

robbins cruise ship jump

The U.S. Coast Guard has ended their search for a Louisiana teenager who fell overboard from a sunset cruise in the Bahamas on Wednesday night.

Cameron Robbins, 18, from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was staying at the Atlantis Paradise resort in Nassau with other teenagers to celebrate their recent high school graduation, WBRZ reported. Robbins had just graduated from University Lab School a few days earlier.

The group landed in the Bahamas on Wednesday and later went on a pirate-themed sunset cruise with a company called Blackbeard’s Revenge. According to a news release , Royal Bahamas Defence Force personnel contacted Coast Guard District Seven watchstanders on Wednesday at 11:30 p.m. and reported that a man fell off the Blackbeard's Revenge sunset cruise ship and entered the water.

The ship was near Athol Island an uninhabited island located northeast of Nassau, according to WBRZ. Videos show Robbins jumping from the boat and swimming with a life preserver nearby.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force is investigating claims that Robbins jumped overboard as part of a dare, according to WBRZ.

The Coast Guard assisted the Royal Bahamas Defence Force in search efforts by deploying aircrews.

The agency announced it was concluding its search on Friday evening after covering over 325 square miles.

"We were informed by the RBDF this evening that they were suspending the active search efforts pending further developments, and were not requesting further Coast Guard assistance after notifying the Robbins family," said Lieutenant Commander Matthew Spado, Coast Guard liaison officer to the Bahamas, in a statement.

"We offer our sincerest condolences to Cameron Robbins’ family and friends," Spado added.

The family of Robbins flew out to the Bahamas on Thursday, WAFB reported.

"The Bahamas government has called off the rescue for Cameron and we are returning to Baton Rouge," the family said in a statement. "We want to thank the Bahamas government, the US Coast Guard, the United Cajun Navy, and Congressman Garrett Graves for everything they have done for us. In this time of grief, we thank our family, friends, and well-wishers for granting us the privacy we need to properly remember our son and mourn his loss."

Going overboard on a cruise is a rare occurrence, according to experts. Between 2009 and 2019, 212 overboard incidents were reported worldwide. Of those, only 48 were rescued. Typically, tall railings help prevent accidents.

He Was Lost At Sea. People Are Making Content Off His Viral Death

The family of Cameron Robbins remembers the Baton Rouge, Louisiana high school graduate as an intense, driven, funny, and kind-hearted son. But on the internet, the loss of the 18-year-old — after he jumped off of a cruise ship on an apparent dare — has gone from tragic accident to ripe content mine, the latest example of a tragedy going through the true-crime machine on TikTok .

It’s been 12 days since Robbins was last seen. Units from the U.S. Coast Guard, The United Cajun Navy (a volunteer emergency rescue service), and the Royal Bahamas Defense Force all searched for Robbins but were unsuccessful. On May 27, after searching over 325 square miles of water, the Royal Bahamas Defense Force called off the search and listed Robbins as lost at sea, which declared him legally deceased. “We want to thank the Bahamas government, the U.S. Coast Guard, the United Cajun Navy, and Congressman Garrett Graves for everything they have done for us,” the Robbins family said in a statement to WAFB. “In this time of grief, we thank our family, friends and well wishers for granting us the privacy we need to properly remember our son and mourn his loss.”

“People are looking for ways to understand why this terrible thing happened,” Douglas says. “A simple explanation is often not very appealing for such a significant event. People assume that a big event must also have a big or more sinister cause, which is why conspiracy theories can be appealing under these circumstances.”

Douglas adds that while conspiracy theories can be meant as a salve, they do have real-world consequences. And while Robbins is no longer here, he is survived by a grieving community — all of whom will have access to the things people are saying about their loved one. “He will be missed desperately by his family and friends,” his obituary read, “who will carry their cherished memories of him to eternity.” For Robbins’ sake, and the sake of his family, the internet should let him rest.

Video shows chaos after teen jumps from cruise, search called off, bahamas nightmare vid shows chaos after teen jumps from cruise ... search called off.

A multi-day search for a Louisiana teen who jumped from a sunset cruise in the Bahamas has come to its tragic end -- and the last known sighting of him was caught on harrowing video.

Footage has surfaced showing 18-year-old Cameron Robbins -- who'd just graduated high school in Baton Rouge -- swimming in the open seas at night near Athol Island last week ... where he was on a sunset cruise with a bunch of his peers celebrating their achievement.

Word is Cameron went overboard on his own accord, and not just that -- but, apparently, it was on a dare. In the clip, you can kinda tell his buddies were getting a kick out of it.

That is until he vanished behind the boat and out of view of everyone, who began screaming at him to grab a life preserver that'd been thrown to him -- which was pretty far away, and he didn't end up reaching it. Once he disappeared, everyone began to panic.

Since he went missing, a multi-day search was undertaken by both Bahamian authorities and the U.S. Coast Guard -- but Robbins was never found, and the search has now been called off after several unsuccessful days of scouring the area for any sign of him.

It sounds like Cameron is presumed dead, as the Coast Guard issued a statement saying ... "We offer our sincerest condolences to Cameron Robbins' family and friends." His family flew into the Bahamas last week, and prayer vigils have been held for him for a few days now.

His family has also spoken out ... "The Bahamas government has called off the rescue for Cameron and we are returning to Baton Rouge. We want to thank the Bahamas government, the U.S. Coast Guard, the United Cajun Navy, and Congressman Garrett Graves for everything they have done for us. In this time of grief, we thank our family, friends, and well-wishers for granting us the privacy we need to properly remember our son and mourn his loss."

The ship that Cameron Robbins jumped off into the shark-infested waters of Athol Island, Bahamas, on May 24 — only to never be seen again — shocked social media when people realized how small the vessel was.

“The boat Cameron Robbins jumped off of wasn’t even that big… omg the way this has consumed my brain for the last 12 hours 😩,” one Twitter user said, adding that they had assumed it was a large cruise ship.

“He def wasn’t sucked in by propellers on this boat like he would a cruise ship…it was the sharks,” another user wrote.

In the video, Robbins, 18, can be seen in dark waters with a standout white figure, resembling a shark, appearing on the left screen.

Robbins had been sailing on the party boat known as the Blackbeard’s Revenge boat, described as the “ONLY PIRATE SHIP TOUR in The Bahamas,” just three days after he graduated high school.

The party boat spans 140 feet. In comparison, an average cruise ship spans 1,000 feet in length or roughly three football fields.

Officials called off the search for Christopher Robbins after he jumped off a boat into shark-infested waters.

Features include three decks, two fully stocked bars, and a VIP air-conditioned Captain’s Lounge, according to the boat’s Facebook page .

Made to look like a pirate ship from the 18th century, prices go from $75 per adult and $42 per child.

What to know about Cameron Robbins' disappearance

Cameron Robbins, 18, graduated from University Laboratory School in Baton Rouge in May and was on a trip to the Bahamas with students from several local high schools.

According to witnesses, the teen — who was apparently acting on a dare — took a plunge off a party cruise into the ocean near Athol Island at night.

Robbins was last seen splashing in the dark, “shark-infested” waters a few feet from the boat, before vanishing from view.

A chaotic video taken moments after the jump also shows the recent graduate ignoring onlookers’ pleas to grab a buoy.

The party ship remained in the area for several hours while the crew looked for Robbins.

The Coast Guard  called off its own search two days later , after reportedly scouring over 325 square miles.

Options include the night pirate party cruise, which heads to Paradise Island and lasts three hours.

There is also the 90-minute sunset cruise and the day tour cruise.

The Blackbeard's Revenge Bahamas appears tiny compared to a cruise ship.

Dinner cruises serve three-course meals.

In a statement, the company confirmed that a guest aboard one of its vessels went overboard on May 24 around 9:40 at night, adding it’s working with Bahamian authorities and the Coast Guard, and will continue to participate in the ongoing investigation. The company also offered its condolences to the Robbins family. “Since the incident, the company has reviewed all safety measures and protocols and are confident that the company’s practices were and continue to be in line with the highest industry standards to keep its passengers safe,” the statement said. “With approval by the Bahamian authorities, Pirates Revenge Ltd has resumed operations of its cruise vessel. We would like to thank the crew for their continued professionalism and for expertly performing their duties during the incident. We will continue to make information available as it is appropriate during the ongoing investigation.”

Two days after Robbins went missing in the water, May 28, the search was called off after he was nowhere to be seen.

Officials say they are investigating reports that the recent Louisiana teen, who played baseball, jumped off on a dare.

A shocking video of Robbins, which surfaced on TikTok, shows his last moments seen alive. In the clip, another teen boy can be heard screaming “this kid f–king jumped off… oh my f–king god…bye bye.” Other onlookers can be heard screaming “grab the buoy.”

But Robbins appears to head in the opposite direction of the buoy after what appears to be a shark is seen next to it.

The Baton Rouge native, along with his classmates, had been staying at the Atlantis Paradise Resort and took a sunset cruise on the ship.

According to the US Coast Guard, Royal Bahamas Defence Force personnel contacted Coast Guard District Seven watchstanders on Wednesday at 11:30 p.m. after Robbins jumped overboard.

The boat stayed in the area that night for hours after the incident as people looked for Robbins.

“We were informed by the RBDF this evening that they were suspending the active search efforts pending further developments, and were not requesting further Coast Guard assistance after notifying the Robbins family,” said Lieutenant Commander Matthew Spado, Coast Guard liaison officer to the Bahamas, in a statement.

“We offer our sincerest condolences to Cameron Robbins’ family and friends,” Spado added.

People think they've spotted a haunting image in a video which shows teenager Cameron Robbins jump off a cruise ship into 'shark-infested waters'.

The 18-year-old from Louisiana - who was celebrating his high school graduation on a sunset cruise on 24 May - jumped overboard for a dare while on a cruise in the Bahamas.

According to a new video, which shows Robbins swimming in the dark sea, viewers think they've spotted a horrific outcome.

Watch below:

Robbins recently graduated from University Laboratory School in Baton Rouge on Sunday and was on a trip to the Bahamas with fellow students from several local high schools .

The group of friends were staying at Atlantis Paradise Island resort in Nassau.

Only a few hours after their arrival, Robbins and his friends attended a sunset party cruise.

At around 9.40pm, the 18-year-old was said to have jumped off the boat and into the ocean near Athol Island.

Robbins was last seen in dark waters before completely vanishing from view.

Cameron Robbins recently graduated from high school.

After just a few days, the large scale search was called off on 27 May.

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force, with the assistance of the US Coast Guard Southeast, searched for Robbins with no success.

“We offer our sincerest condolences to Cameron Robbins’ family and friends,” they tweeted , explaining they were suspending the search.

Royal Bahamas Defense Force (RBDF) Commodore, Raymond King, has since provided an update, confirming that the area Robbins went to swim in 'is really shark infested'.

He said: "The probability of survival decreases significantly particularly if a person did not have on a life vest and particularly if a person is perceived to be intoxicated.

"I can tell you that area where an individual reportedly jumped over, it's an area that is really shark infested as well.

"It is so unfortunate but I don't want the family to lose hope."

And now, in new footage of the incident, viewers think they spotted a shark in the video.

One person commented: "The video doesn't lie, he was attacked by a shark and taken under."

Another added: "You can see the shark to the left of the video' and another was adamant they 'saw the fin' in the short video."

Viewers think image was that of a 'shark'.

Pictures on Robbins’ social media show he was a keen baseball player and has been described as a ‘fierce competitor’ by his coach.

The school’s baseball coach Justin Morgan said: “Cameron is a kid who is truly loved by his teammates, teachers, and fellow classmates.

“He is a fierce competitor on the baseball field. He is a hard worker both on and off of the playing field.

“Our school community is struggling right now but hoping for the very best.

“Our thoughts and prayers have been and will remain with the Robbins family during this difficult time.”
