NIJIN ALI 10 months ago The worst experience we had from this place. The place is not so hygenic with flies around also the waiter who took the order said some price for the food which later at bill section it was not the same , it was increased. When asked they didnt respond well

Russia Michelin Star Revelation

The long-awaited arrival of the MICHELIN Guide marks a recognition of the rapid development in gastronomic culture in Russia over the past 30 years. The unique history and traditions of the region, formed by the variety of high-quality local products from the Far East, the Altai Republic, the Black Sea and the north-west of Russia, inspire talented chefs to create exquisite culinary masterpieces that cannot be found anywhere else. The first ever Moscow MICHELIN Star ceremony took place tonight, at the Zaryadye Concert Hall, in the heart of the Russian capital. The festive evening, organized with all necessary security measures, was attended by more than 500 guests. “ The MICHELIN Guide and Moscow are sharing a historical moment with the unveiling of the MICHELIN Guide Moscow 2022 selection . Inspectors have been particularly seduced by the high-quality local produce. Russia is a wonderfully wide-ranging expression of nature: from sea coasts to wild forests, from aromatic herbs to first-class seafood… There are lots of discoveries to make ” says Gwendal Poullennec, MICHELIN Guide International Director. “ Moreover, thanks to cultural exchanges throughout history between Russia and Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East, gourmets will experience unforgettable authentic meals full of flavor .”

Restaurants were celebrated through the announcement of the MICHELIN Guide selection, with the reveal of Bib Gourmand (for restaurants offering particularly interesting value for money, where you can enjoy a delicious meal under RUB2000), MICHELIN Stars (for restaurants serving high-quality cuisine), and MICHELIN Green Stars (for restaurants that are pioneering in their sustainable approach). As for all its other selections, the MICHELIN Guide has used the same historical methodology. The team of independent and anonymous inspectors from the Guide has been in the field for its traditional table-tests, during which they evaluate the meal they experience via 5 assessment criteria  :

- The quality of the produce used - The mastery of cooking techniques - The mastery of flavors - The chef’s personality in his/her cuisine - The consistency between visits Thanks to the seriousness and depth of their methodology, inspectors were able to collectively build this first MICHELIN Guide Moscow selection.

2 Two MICHELIN Star restaurants

Beluga – located at the National Hotel, near the Red Square, Beluga offers one of the finest selections of caviar and vodka in the whole of Russia. While experiencing the authentic soul of this historical place, gourmets can discover and enjoy the elegant and delicate cuisine of chef Evgeny Vikentiev. Biologie - Chef Ekaterina Alehina offers her guests a journey through a personal cuisine, with a strong accent on sustainability, focusing on organic products. You can also find the chef’s artistic personality in the restaurant itself, which is decorated with her own paintings and furniture she made herself. Grand Cru – “Bienvenue” to this establishment, with a cozy atmosphere, proposing first class modernized classic French cuisine and one of the best wine lists in Moscow. The Alsatian chef David Hemmerle brings an enjoyable piece of French finesse to Moscow. Sakhalin – Located on the 22nd floor of an imposing building, Alexey Kogay’s cuisine has a pleasant selection of first-class seafood from Russia, including products caught off the namesake island. This elegant and trendy restaurant offers also an impressive view of the city. Savva – Chef Andrei Shmakov knows how to mix classical techniques and modernism to offer a subtle Russian cuisine. The elegance of the restaurant and the high-quality service makes it a not-to-be missed spot for Muscovite gourmets.

Selfie – Chef Anatoly Kazakov is a fine chef at the forefront of modern gastronomy. This restaurant proposes creative dishes, where the main stars are the ingredients, uplifted to their best by the chef’s techniques. White Rabbit – Chef Vladimir Mukhin’s cooking is as impressive as the wonderful view offered by the panoramic glass roof. This young chef makes you enjoy a cuisine as modern as personal, that knows how to enhance local products. An experience between discovery and nostalgy.

3 MICHELIN Green Star restaurants

15 Bib Gourmand restaurants have also been highlighted, allowing foodies to discover skillful chefs and gourmet offers for less than RUB 2000, such as Hibiki , a little gem led by chef and owner Sang Keun Oh, who proposes beautifully inspired cuisine with dishes of tremendous quality, or Eva , which celebrates Greek cuisine with fresh ingredients, while capturing incredible flavors.

The first MICHELIN Young Chef Award , sponsored by Blancpain, was awarded : Nikita Poderyagin , chef of the Björn restaurant since 2016 knows how to mix perfectionism and emotions in the service of gourmets, and his evolution is to be followed carefully in the future.

Foodies discovered the MICHELIN Service Award , sponsored by San Pellegrino, awarded to the service team of the Twins Garden restaurant, led by Vitaly Filonov. Thanks to the strong commitment of these professionals, foodies are transported on a wonderful journey in the Berezutsky brothers’ culinary universe.

Moscow has become the 35th gastronomic destination chosen by the MICHELIN Guide, along with Singapore, the Nordic countries, Beijing, and California. This international highlight will allow foodies from all over the world to easily find a reason for an unforgettable trip to the Russian capital city and will also create an impetus for the further development of the restaurant business, both in Moscow and other Russian cities.

A very cozy coffee shop with high quality coffee and bakery. Recently introduced business lunches to their menu which is consistently good. My favorite though is classic capucino with tiramisu!

I had breakfast here twice and grabbed cupcakes once and all three times it was a great experience. Even though no one spoke English and I speak no Russian, I was able to get exactly what I wanted and enjoy it. The atmosphere is very... sophisticated, like something in LA but also comfortable. This is not your Starbucks type place which is a nice change of pace for this tired American. The breakfast was quite good and my traveling mate and I were able to get in and out on both occasions in under an hour even with ordering food. Great place to grab a nice breakfast. The cupcakes on the other hand, not so good. Maybe we just got there late in the day, but they were very dried out and not very good. More

Picked up some coffee and cupcakes to go after visiting the Botanical Garden on one occasion and came back to have breakfast here with my family. So glad we did! First let me say that it's such a beautifully decorated space, it's very comfortable, soothing... and tastefully decorated. Both the desserts and breakfasts were wonderful. They have a good selection of items on the menu and prepare them well. Would recommend! More

Stopped by for a coffee and some food and a quiet corner to do some translation work. All the waiters and waitresses were super friendly and helpful. The terrace was packed since it's summer time, so I had to settle for a table inside. Every... second table was having some kind of a pitch prrsentation, a brainstorming meeting or just a business meeting of sorts, though they all behaved. No conference calls without a headset for everybody to suffer from. My order was a bit messed up (they made a wrong dish) which I thought I had to try one day anyway, so it wasn't a big deal and I didn't have to pay the difference, though it was a bit more expensive. All in all, a really nice experience! More

As soon as I saw the commercially looking desserts I knew I won’t be getting artisanal quality stuff, but decided to give it a try. Prices got me all interested, because rarely do you see a 190 gram piece of tart for 500 roubles. Place... didn’t give out a luxury vibe to measure up to the prices but oh well, I was still hopeful. Sadly, I was disappointed in both the food and the service. No one was friendly or accommodating really. Coffee was mediocre and expensive. Little cupcakes tasted like they sat in a fridge for days. Totally love their breakfasts with eggs yet when I was visiting they didn't accept credit cards which in Moscow means quite a few things but none of them are in favor of the business, and the stuff on the terrace is pretty worn out and... doesn't look too appealing. The glass must wall must definitely be cleaned more often than once a summer and the cushions covers need washing. The waiters did their best, thx! More

After a long day of exploring we wanted a dessert place to rest. I had hoped It had a more Russian traditional | modern vibe. It seemed as if it was a retail chain and there was no personal character to it. My father ordered... a blueberry milkshake and I ordered a refreshing Americano coffee and the Red velvet cake which was absolutely amazing! It was a stack of russian pancakes with red velvet cream cheese in between! Totally reimbursed me for the mediocre atmosphere! More

Guess how much it takes to get an omelette? In my case it was really a record - one hour and 2 minutes! Sunday breakfast got almost at lunch time :) they explained that there were too many guests. Question: why to put that many... places if there is not enough capacity in the kitchen? Disappointed! More

I love this place, every time I feel like having a cake, I go there. They have the best cakes in the city. Even their hot dishes are great. Unfortunately I had a bad experience last time I went, the service was bad, it took... me 30 minutes to be given a menu, and be asked what I wanted. Besides that I won't stop going there, and I hope that it won't happen again. More

This small chain of amazing cakeshops doesn't fail to provide - and this particular location next to the Botanical gardens in downtown Moscow is a fantastic option amongst the other restaurants available next door. For my wife, the cake selection is always a reliable winner... - and unlike other outlets, this outlet offers some savory foods too. While not having had the chance to try these, based on what others were eating, we would like to come back and try them ourselves! More

Don't really understand the hype, the cupcakes are fine but nothing special about them. Very cute interior though, so it is nice to take pictures and so on. But I tasted better cupcakes.

This place has it all - from muffins and cupcakes, to carrot cakes and red velvet, to poached eggs and burgers! With a couple of locations throughout the city, this one is quite lovely. I love this place for brunch, but also for when you... want breakfast for dinner kind of an evening! More

By Moscow standards this place is quite expensive. I took two friends there we all had a cake and a hot drink. It was 1500 Roubles which is about £15 GBP. The cakes all look fantastic and they are pretty good but it was really... sad that they did not use fresh cream on the cakes. I had a hot chocolate and it tasted a bit weird. To be honest I wouldn't bother going back. More

It is a definitely one of the places you shouldn't miss out on when you are in Padang! The food was absolutely delicious, especially the signature mie kari would leave your mouths watering for more. Fantastic! We had a couple of wagyu steaks and my daughter had a pizza. All really tasty, great atmosphere, friendly service and live acoustic music. So good I literally couldn't wait to review, still at the table and my affogato has just arrived...

I came here as a group of 9 with my clinets. The ambience here is pretty nice, with live music and a really classy dining area. We ordered quite a number of steaks, salmon, lobster, pizza etc. I personally had the BBQ ribs and my... wife had the salmon (As seen in the picture). We also ordered the margarita pizza to share. I paid about SGD$19 for my ribs but it was served cold and the BBQ Ribs was super tough to dig into. One of the ribs only had a bone on it. On the contrary, the pizza was very nice and hot from the oven! The others had a good steak I feel as I tried it too, however the steak cut/portion was slightly thin as compared to other steaks I've tried. (Eg, Tony Romas etc.) My wife's salmon was just so-so but it was served hot. So it's not too bad. Overall, it was a good food and session for the group but just the ribs was a bad choice. More

The Safari Garden is by far one of few restaurants in Padang that serves western. We were greeted by friendly staff as we entered the restaurant. We had pizza, Tenderloin Steak with wine sauce, honey lemon and iced tea. Pizza was okay. Steak was nicely... cooked, the mashed potato was yummy, the veggies that comes with the so fresh. The honey lemon is too watery, as if it is just a mixture of syrup and lots of water. We had Affogato after meal. Overall, yes, I recommend this place. More

This restaurant has a lovely ambiance, staff were very friendly and accommodating, great comfy couches to sit on and a small band playing when we’re there on a Friday night, coffee was good, I had chicken steak, mushroom sauce, vegetables and mashed potato it was... very tasty but unfortunately it was cold, I had been craving western food after living in Padang now for 8 months and so happy a restaurant actually had mashed potatoes, I didn’t want to complain and say it was cold as the staff were really lovely, would I come back again yes absolutely. Atmosphere is peaceful and there was a singer as well at the background and it gave a good vibe.... Like many restaurants at padang, if you order an appetiser it can come after a main course. having only few days in Padang, we were looking for something above average. The Safari Garden is above average. Professional attendance even though English is not fluent. Interesting but worthwile the Prawn and Fruit Salad, featuring apple, strawberry lychee and fresh prawns. Your 48-hour tour guide of Moscow this winter!

9 am – Visit the Red Square

The first thing that every tourist should do by default is visit the very heart of Moscow – it’s main and most beautiful (which ‘krasnaya’ actually meant in Old Russian) square! 

There are several ways to explore it:

• Take a selfie with Spasskaya Tower
• Have a warm drink at the Christmas market (which lasts until mid-January)
• Visit Lenin’s Mausoleum
• Shop in the gorgeous adjacent GUM department store
• Visit St. Basil’s Cathedral (and learn that it’s actually several churches under one roof).           

11 am – It’s Kremlin time! 

Inside the Moscow Kremlin

Entering the Kremlin is, actually, a bit of a quest, as it’s a presidential facility with no general access. You need to buy a ticket or, better still, book a guided tour. Inside the Kremlin’s walls, you will find ancient cathedrals, in which Russian tsars used to be crowned and buried, as well as explore the magnificent architecture of the Kremlin that reflects the rich history of the country. And, finally, you could also make a quick visit to the Moscow Kremlin Museums and admire artifacts from various Russian tsarist eras: carriages, thrones, crowns and the most incredible armory and jewelry. 

For more information, visit the official website of the Kremlin . It’s open from 10 am to 5 pm (and it’s closed on Thursdays) in winter.

2 pm – Watch the changing of the Guard

A very spectacular (and free) thing to do is watch how the honor guard does their ceremonial change at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Eternal Flame, situated in Alexander Garden, right next to the Kremlin wall. Every hour, from 8 am to 8 pm, the 1st Company of the Kremlin (Presidential) Regiment performs this rather old and beautiful tradition. But, be warned, it's often overcrowded. 

3 pm – Enjoy a green oasis just in the center

Florarium in Zaryadye

Just a few steps from the Red Square, you will find the fabulous Zaryadye park. Opened in 2017, it is designed by renowned American architect bureau ‘Diller Scofidio + Renfro’. You can walk among the very cozy botanical decorations and explore Russia’s climate zones, as each of them is represented in dedicated areas, complete with flora from those zones.

The park also has an underground museum, an “ice cave” and a 3D cinema, where you can take part in a virtual adventure – a flight over Moscow! However, the piece de resistance is a floating boomerang bridge over the Moskva River, one of the best places to take a selfie.

You can also grab a quick lunch or relax with a cup of coffee or tea in the park.

7 pm – Arrange a ballet night

The Bolshoi Theater

Of course, the most fancy way to finish your day in Moscow would be to go to the ballet at the Bolshoi Theater (in a perfect world, to see ‘The Nutcracker’!). However, getting tickets to the Bolshoi is not an easy task and should be done well in advance of your visit. 

But, don’t be upset if you don’t manage to get tickets to the Bolshoi. Moscow has dozens of other options to see a ballet (or opera). No less brilliant performances can be seen in the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theater or in The State Kremlin Palace (by the way, this is another way to get a quick glimpse inside the Kremlin!).

10:30 pm – Have a late dinner in a fancy restaurant

There are not so many other cities with such a big choice of restaurants in a range of tastes and styles. In 2021, the authoritative Michelin guide announced their pick of the best of Moscow’s restaurants. And here’s our guide to all the places with Russian cuisine for any budget. But, if you happen to be in the area of the Bolshoi or Nemirovich-Danchenko Theater, then ‘Dr. Zhivago’ would definitely be a nice option (and it’s open around the clock).

DAY 2 

9 am – grab a moscow coffee.

Moscow is definitely a coffee city! You can find coffee shops on every corner and they all offer a huge range of drinks. Try a ‘raf’ coffee, a sweet, creamy drink that was created in Russia, or dare to pick one of the very unusual offers, like cheese coffee or a Soviet candy style one (check out our coffee guide here ).

10 am – Take a river cruise

Another exciting way to explore Moscow is to observe it from the water. Boats cruise along the Moskva River all year round. Most begin their route from the Hotel Ukraine, one of Stalin's ‘Seven Sister’ skyscrapers, and will bring you back to the same spot after passing the medieval Novodevichy Convent, Moscow State University and Luzhniki Stadium, the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour and giant monument to Peter the Great and many other sightseeings. 

It’s always at optimum temperature inside the boat, which also has huge panoramic windows. Select boats also offer a full dining experience, so it is also a nice place to have breakfast or lunch.

1 pm – Visit ‘Russia’ Expo and taste a bunch of Russian regional cuisines

Until April 2024, the Soviet-era VDNKh exhibition park is hosting the huge ‘Russia’ expo, with tons of activities and expositions devoted to Russia, its culture, science and nature. Check out our special guide on what to do there!  

An entire ‘House of Russian Cuisine’ has been opened at the expo. You will find 15 food stands with flagship dishes from Kamchatka, Siberia, Karelia and other regions of Russia. Imagine trying a range of cuisines and dishes in one place without even having to travel anywhere, be it Altai pelmeni, Tula kalach or Caucasian pies! A perfect place to grab some lunch.

The VDNKh exhibition park is a great place to visit, in general! Its pavilions are the perfect example of Stalinit Empire style architecture and you can almost feel as if you’ve traveled back in time! You will also find several interesting museums in the park – devoted to space exploration, Russian history and even a ‘Special Purpose Garage’, which showcases the various vehicles used by the country’s leaders.

And, finally, you can ride Europe's tallest panoramic wheel – ‘Sun of Moscow’ – that will give you panoramic views of the city – from a height of 140 meters!

5 pm – Ice skate with view & mulled wine

Ice skating is one of the most popular and affordable activities in Moscow. There are several great ice skating rinks in picturesque locations that are open all winter long. One of the biggest rinks in Europe is also at the aforementioned VDNKh or you can visit the one in Gorky Park, another very popular Moscow spot, or the small, but fancy rink – right on Red Square! 

All the parks offer ice skate rental, so the only things you need are warm clothes, a charged phone to record your memories and a good mood!  Moscow also gets dark at 4:30 pm in winter and hundreds of lights are switched on, turning the city into a giant fairy tale!

And, if you are not a sports person, we’ve picked several other unusual activities that you could do in Moscow instead. For example, did you know that there is an entire district of dacha (countryside) houses, just 10 minutes from the center, surrounded by giant new highrises? How about taking a stroll there and feeling the early Soviet atmosphere?

8 pm – Warm up & laugh out loud

After all these outdoor activities, what could be better than a warm cozy bar with a hot drink and nice company? Moscow is a city full of entertainment for all tastes. So, if you know the Russian language or want to practice it, go to a theater or catch a stand-up comedy show. Moscow even has comedy shows in English, where you can hear both Russians speaking fluent English or foreigners (including Brits and Americans) who live in Russia speaking in broken or heavily-accented Russian (Check their show dates on the ‘ Moscow English Comedy ’ Telegram channel)!

11 pm – Finish by partying the night away!

Moscow never sleeps, as you might have heard. Which means there are plenty of bars and nightclubs where you can have a drink (or two or three; be sure to check out how Russians make Black Russian and White Russian cocktails) and chat with incredibly different people. Have fun and don’t miss your flight (or miss it and stay longer in the best city in the world!)!
