Shawn Mendes cancels all tour dates, including metro Phoenix. Here's what we know
Shawn Mendes has canceled all remaining concerts on his Wonder World Tour, including a Sept. 7 date at Gila River Arena in Glendale, for "some much needed time off."
The star announced the cancellation Wednesday on his Instagram.
"I started this tour excited to finally get back to playing live after a long break due to the pandemic, but the reality is I was not at all ready for how difficult touring would be after this time away," he wrote.
"After speaking more with my team and working with an incredible group of health professionals, it has become more clear that I need to take the time I've never taken personally, to ground myself and come back stronger."

Mendes had postponed Wonder World Tour launch
Earlier this month, the 23-year-old pop singer postponed the launch of his tour for three weeks "to take some time to heal and take care of myself and my mental health," a situation he addressed at the top of his Instagram post.
"As you guys know, I had to postpone the past few weeks of shows since I wasn’t totally prepared for the toll that being back on the road would take on me,” he wrote.
He had been hopeful that he might be able to pick up the rest of the dates after taking "some much needed time off," Mendes wrote.
"But at this time I have to put my health as my first priority. This doesn’t mean I won’t be making new music, and I can’t wait to see you on tour in the future."
Mendes ended his message by addressing the disappointment his fans may be feeling.
"I know you all have been waiting so long to see these shows, and it breaks my heart to tell you this but I promise I'll be back as soon as I've taken the right time to heal," he wrote.
"I love you all and thank you all so much for supporting me and sticking by me on this journey."
The opening date of the rescheduled tour was supposed to have been Sunday, June 31, in the singer's home base, Toronto.

Shawn Mendes ends world tour to prioritize his mental health
Social sharing.
Canadian pop star Shawn Mendes has cancelled the rest of his Wonder world tour to care for his mental health, the singer announced in an Instagram post on Wednesday.
"After speaking more with my team and working with an incredible group of health professionals, it has become more clear that I need to take the time I've never taken personally to ground myself and come back stronger," the 23-year-old singer wrote.
"I unfortunately have to cancel the rest of the tour dates in North America, and the UK/Europe."
More than 70 performances were cancelled, including four in Canada: two shows in Toronto on July 31 and Aug. 2, and two shows in Montreal on Aug. 15 and 16.
The scrapped concerts would have stretched into mid-2023. To date, only seven shows on his tour were actually performed, including shows in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg.
Mendes, who was born in Pickering, Ont., assured fans that the cancelled tour won't affect his plans to make new music — or to perform onstage again in the future.
"I promise I will be back as soon as I've taken the right time to heal," he wrote.
Earlier this month, Mendes told fans that he would be taking a three-week break from the tour, postponing a string of shows in the U.S., saying that he had "hit a breaking point" after touring steadily since he was 15.
- Shawn Mendes postpones world tour to focus on his mental health
The singer has long been open about his mental health struggles and has said that he hopes his honesty helps and empowers others.
In 2018, he told Tom Power, host of CBC's q , about writing music to cope with anxiety.
"The only way progression is going to happen is by talking about it and by allowing everybody to talk about it," Mendes said. "It just becomes more of a normal thing, and hopefully in 10 years from now, nobody is really worried about it."

The Shawn Mendes' Wonder Tour event has been canceled. Refunds will be available at the original point of purchase. Statement from Shawn Mendes
GRAMMY nominated, multi-platinum singer/songwriter Shawn Mendes announces his 2022 “Wonder: The World Tour.” Shawn will be joined by Dermot Kennedy in Raleigh.
The tour announce follows Shawn’s most recent album “Wonder” - which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200, making Mendes one of three male artists ever to score four #1 albums by 22 years old – as well as his new hit single, “Summer of Love” with Tainy.
In 2019 Shawn was nominated for a GRAMMY for “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” for “Señorita,” his single with Camila Cabello. In 2018 he released his self-titled platinum album, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 Chart as well as multiple worldwide markets. The album became one of the top best-selling album debuts of 2018 and made Shawn the third youngest solo artist to ever have three consecutive #1 albums. Shawn was nominated in two categories for the 61st annual GRAMMY® Awards, including “Song of the Year” for “In My Blood” and “Best Pop Vocal Album” for “SHAWN MENDES.” The same year Shawn debuted his certified platinum single, “If I Can’t Have You,” at #1 on iTunes and #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. With “Señorita” at #1 and “If I Can’t Have You” at #2, Shawn is the first male solo artist ever to simultaneously hold the #1 and #2 place on the Top 40 chart. On his last world tour, he sold out his first ever stadium show in minutes at Rogers Centre in his hometown of Toronto. The tour began in March 2019, with over 100 dates across the UK, Europe, North America, Latin America, Asia and Australia/New Zealand.
In April 2017, Shawn released his 3x platinum hit “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back.” The track scored Shawn his second #1 single at Top 40 radio and on Billboard’s Pop Songs chart, joining his 7x platinum single “Stitches.” Shawn has nearly 50 Billion global streams and 8.6 billion video views. He topped Billboard’s “21 Under 21” in 2017 and 2018 and has been featured on Forbes “30 Under 30,” Spotify’s “25 Under 25,” and Time Magazine’s “Time 100 Most Influential”. In 2018, ROI Influencer Media recognized Shawn as the #1 Most Influential Artist and #1 Most Influential Teen across all social media platforms.
In 2019 Shawn launched The Shawn Mendes Foundation, which seeks to inspire Shawn’s audience, the youth generation of today—to learn about those causes that they are passionate about, and help empower them to use the voice they have to bring change to the world by taking action & giving back. As part of its ongoing mission, the Foundation provides resources and support to amplify the voices, messages, and platforms of young leaders driving positive change.

Shawn Mendes announced Wednesday morning that he is canceling the rest of his tour to continue his mental health break.
“As you guys know, I had to postpone the past few weeks of shows since I wasn’t totally prepared for the toll that being back on the road would take on me,” the “Treat You Better” crooner began his social media statement.
“I started this tour excited to finally get back to playing live after a long break due to the pandemic, but the reality is I was not at all ready for how difficult touring would be after this time away.”
Mendes, 23, said that after he spoke with his team and an “incredible group of health professionals,” they came to the conclusion that it has “become more clear” that he needs to take the time he has “never taken personally” so that he can “ground” himself and “come back stronger.”
The “Lost in Japan” singer, who admitted he’s heartbroken by the decision, said he hopes to resume his tour dates after some “much needed time off,” but in the meantime will continue to record new music for his fans.
“…I promise I will be back as soon as I’ve taken the right time to heal,” he concluded his message. “I love you all and thank you all so much for supporting me and sticking by me on this journey.”
Mendes’ update comes just a few weeks after he initially announced he was postponing his tour , known as “Wonder: The World Tour.” His tour began in Portland in June and was scheduled to run through August 2023.
Mendes also alluded to his mental health struggles in April when he told fans he was having a hard time telling the truth about himself.
“I’m afraid that if people know and see the truth they might think less of me,” he wrote online. “They might become bored of me. so in those moments of feeling low i either put on a show or hide.”

Idina Menzel is a Tony Award-winning powerhouse multi-hyphenate: a singer, an actress in film and TV, a songwriter, a Broadway star, and a philanthropist. She rose to fame for her role as Maureen in the Broadway musical Rent , and her career took off when she won a Tony Award for her role as Elphaba in the smash musical Wicked . Her voice can be heard as Elsa in Disney’s Oscar® winning Frozen , the second highest-grossing animated film of all time, with more than $1.2 billion in worldwide box office revenue. The film’s song “Let It Go”, voiced by Menzel, became an instant international phenomenon, winning the Oscar® for Best Original Song–where Menzel performed it at the ceremony–and the Grammy® Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media. The track reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100, making Menzel the first artist with both a Billboard Top 10 hit and a Tony Award for acting.
Menzel recently released three electrifying singles “Move”, “Dramatic” and “Beast” from her new album, Drama Queen , set to be released on August 18 via BMG. Jacob Collier’s latest project: 6 years, 4 albums, thousands of voices
The grammy-winning multi-instrumentalist says the ‘djesse’ volumes are just the beginning.
Remember 2018? When Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed as a Supreme Court justice? When that Thai youth soccer team was rescued from a cave? When the biggest internet debate was whether an audio voice said “Yanny” or “Laurel”?
Such was the zeitgeist when then-23-year-old Jacob Collier embarked on a project called “Djesse,” a mnemonic reference to his own initials, that would span four albums, six years, a pandemic and 100,000 vocalists. By then, the multi-instrumentalist and producer had already won a Grammy for an a cappella arrangement originally posted to YouTube.
But despite (or perhaps because of) mentorship from living legends like Quincy Jones and Herbie Hancock, Collier craved collaboration. His first album, “In My Room,” released in 2016, had earned him wunderkind status, but it was created, as the title suggests, in solitude at his London home. So six years ago, he decided he’d make a massive album (first one, then two, then three, then, finally he decided, four parts) that featured his heroes.
Each of four “Djesse” volumes explores a different “sonic landscape,” with collaboration as the “one epic North Star,” Collier says over Zoom from a hotel room in Mexico City. It’s mid-April, the first day of a tour that will take him around North America and Europe this year.
The series’s first volume, he says, was orchestral — massive and gentle — where the second was focused on folk. The third, more experimental and digital, was released in 2020. That left four years (and a pandemic) between the third and fourth installations; the finale remained a mystery to Collier.
Then came a breakthrough. At his live shows, Collier creates his own orchestra of audience members. (His mother, Suzie Collier, is a violinist, conductor and professor at the Royal Academy of Music.) He conducts thousands of fans as a giant instrument, siphoning different melodies from each corner of the venue. “It’s like I’m playing an organ, but the organ is humans,” he says. “There’s something really magical about that.”
The audience choir became the centerpiece of “Djesse Vol. 4,” released in February. “The album essentially was to be a kind of celebration of the human voice, which was one of my first loves in the world of music,” he says. “My first contributions to the music world were a cappella. So it really felt like the ultimate full-circle moment.”
The album, grand, sprawling and entirely genre-less, is heralded by an even more diverse list of credits, including Paul Simon, John Mayer, Lizzy McAlpine, Shawn Mendes, Lawrence and Brandi Carlile. Between Morse code, ambient animal sounds and dozens of languages, it also features the 100,000 voices of audience choirs Collier has conducted on his tours. In a testament to his “North Star” commitment, musicians from every continent but Antarctica lend their talents.
Collier has kept busy since wrapping his work on “Djesse” with brand deals (read: seriously loud Crocs ) and a casual gig playing piano during Joni Mitchell’s Grammy performance . But his feelings in the wake of completing this series are complicated.
“There’s an amount of grief that I’m not living for something as big as this anymore,” he says. “But the fact that it’s a real, physical, living, breathing, public thing is beautiful and surreal.”
So what comes after a seismic artistic endeavor? In the beginning, Collier figured this accomplishment would place him just at the starting line.
“When I was starting the ‘Djesse’ process, I had this loose idea that by the time I finished Volume 4, I’d be equipped and ready to start my career, like my actual contributions to the world of music,” he says. (Reminder: Collier, 29, has six Grammys.) “I don’t know when I’d be qualified, other than when I feel ready. So I would definitely just encourage everyone to jump right into the thing that excites them and trust in it, because I think that’s one massive thing I’ve learned from ‘Djesse,’ is the idea of trusting the north of it all.”
