TaylorMade M4 Tour Fairway Wood Review

Taylormade m4 tour fairway wood.

The TaylorMade M4 Tour fairway wood is designed with better players in mind that are looking for the perfect club to reach a long par 5 in two or more precision on tight tee shots.  With some familiar characteristics of the M2 Tour fairway wood , the M4 Tour has an updated look and continues a line of great performance.

M4 Tour Fairway 2

First Impressions

Like the rest of the 2018 M lineup, the TaylorMade M4 Tour fairway wood has a silver topline, black carbon crown, and black face.  The black/silver contrast with the red, white, and blue paint scheme looks good on the M4 Tour fairway.  From address, the M4 Tour has a compact pear shape with a medium depth face .  The smaller head profile is certainly more conducive to the stronger players out there.  If you’re looking for something more along the lines of a “mini driver” then you may need to look at the standard M4 fairway wood.  My overall first impression was that the M4 Tour fairway wood looks great behind the ball and looks like a 270+ yard deck weapon.

How Does it Feel?

There are a few characteristics that significantly influence the feel of the TaylorMade M4 Tour fairway wood.  First, TaylorMade has continued its use of Geocoustic technology.  This technology allows for TaylorMade to control the balance and center of gravity of the club better without sacrificing performance and feel.  The other change TaylorMade was by adding a new split weight inside of the club head which gives it more stability.  Lastly, a new “Ni-Co 300 steel face insert” allowed for TaylorMade to make the face thinner and faster without sacrificing a solid feel.

The end result of combining all of these elements in the M4 Tour is an extremely solid feeling fairway wood with a lot of pop .  I coveted the M2 Tour for its powerful feel and the M4 Tour may actually even be a step up from that.

How Does it Sound?

Again, the TaylorMade M4 Tour fairway wood’s sound is greatly influenced by the Geocoustic tech.  The Geocoustic sole has sound ribs on the outside to dampen vibrations and control the pitch of the club’s sound.  Between that Geocoustic sole and the Ni-Co 300 face, you get a hot, yet muted, “ whap ” (pronounce the H) at impact.  When I’m hitting the M4 Tour well, it sounds like I’ve absolute ripped the ball.  Frankly, the sound from this club makes me think I’m a better golfer than I really am.  Don’t get me wrong, you still have to hit the ball well, but you will be quite satisfied with the resulting sound when you do.

On-Course Performance

The TaylorMade M4 Tour fairway wood follows fairly in line with last year’s M2 Tour.  With the forward CG via the sole weight, the M4 Tour is capable of a nice piercing ball flight.  The biggest difference I found was that the M4 Tour was easier for me to launch (saw about a 2º launch angle increase) and I got a little more spin.  To achieve a higher MOI, TaylorMade split the weights internally which distributed the weight more toward the perimeter.  This change also made the M4 Tour easier to launch.

I found the M4 Tour fairway wood to be a bit more forgiving with similar ball speeds, but also a little easier to control.  Maybe that’s because of minor modifications to the sole and leading edge, or the little extra spin.  Either way, I felt I could hit mid-launch to higher trajectories and shape both directions without letting the ball slide off the planet .  Don’t get me wrong, I don’t find the M2 Tour to be uncontrollable, it just can get a little slippery on me.  So with the M4 Tour I have good distance and a little more control and versatility.  With the M2 Tour, I have more distance and power, but less versatility.

M4 Tour Fairway 10

Final Thoughts

The TaylorMade M4 Tour fairway wood is a great option for a strong player looking for distance and shot versatility whether it’s off the deck or from the tee box.  For my bag this season, I decided to stick with my trusty M2 Tour in my 3 wood but have jumped right into the M4 Tour in my 5 wood.  I love the total package of feel, performance, and control I get with the M4 Tour in the 5 wood slot.  Maybe most importantly, I feel I have lots of versatility in my shots for that distance gap and that has opened up some new options for me in my long game.

TaylorMade 300 Tour Fairway Fairway Woods

Taylormade 300 tour fairway fairway woods .

From TaylorMade: The 300 Tour Fairway offers a deep-face design preferred by high-skill players seeking a penetratrating trajectory. The clubhead is designed for maximum playability from all lies and off the tee. Its railed sole plate allows club head to explode the ball out of thick, difficult lies."

USER REVIEWS

I dont know about you, but finding the right 3w is one of the most difficult void for me to fill & to keep me happy long enough to keep it in the bag... For me, its the backbone in my game for length, recovery-length shot when the drive is less than ideal, and those other days when its wiser, not to use the driver at all...I live in a high altitude location, so claiming those unbelieveable distances is just moot...But what I can tell ya is what I do like about this tour model. I like the smaller head of this 3 wood, it keeps me focused is staying within my game and swing. The flight has great carry w/mid-high trajectory, its able to keep up with drivers of the other players (I kid you not)...and it does well into the wind. I havent seen such good performance since my Callaway 3w Ti Warbird. My 15* came with a stock S-90 shaft and it does very well within the swingspeed of 80-100mph. Im able to draw with ease and fade away with confidence. I am only a 85-95mph smooth swinger w/a 3/4 backswing, if I can obtain yardage w/ the driver & 3w (par 5s)in the 550s I am happy. Thanks for your time...

i love this club/ before this club i was hitting the mizuno forged 3 wd and thought i would never change/but i recently put this taylormade tour in the bag and what a difference. this club has a smaller head then the regular 3wood/ the head is titanium so the ball jumps off it/and also the club is very forgiving/ if your trying to improve your game and like taylormade than check this club out.

always greeat to deal with

mizuno forged

I don't think "waiter" was describing this club. It's the best 2/3 wood I've ever hit. It's great in heavy rough and off the tee. It can be hit high or low and shaped easily. Definitely a stroke saver.

Callaway 15 degree Hawkeye.

I tried out the normal 3 wood at the local demo day, and it was okay, but i found it felt too big for me. I tried these and i was expecting to lose distance and consistency. I lost no distance at all, and if anything i can hit the ball more consistently. These are really nice clubs, especially the 13* and if it wasnt too expensive for a 16 yr old i would buy one

Callaway, ping etc

Great club, excellent distance and carry. Easy to hit off the deck and a comforting choice on tight or shorter fairways. A smaller, traditional head size with a solid feel when hit. I benched a Callaway Hawkeye 13 degree 3 wood for this model and have not lost any distance. The Hawkeye is a good club also, but the TaylorMade is easier for me to hit from different lies. A full, honest review of this wood should be positive for most golfers who play a few rounds with one.

Excellent ... the previous reviewer was full of it! He claimed the head was to big and all kinds of other comments that clearly show he is not writing a truthful review. Example is claim that the head is too big ... I find very interesting since the 300 Fairway wood Tour is a small traditional shaped head. I bought the 300 13 degree strong and the 15 normal 3 wood. I will use the strong to replace my driver on those courses with tight driving holes. I am long 240+ and can work the ball with either of these models. Do yourself a favor and try these clubs at a green grass facility were you can truly appreciate the club. Taylor Made fitting accounts all will have demos of this club, TRY IT!

Taylormade 300 Tour 'Holy Grail' - still relevant?

So I have an old 9.5* Taylormade 300 Tour head lying around my house that I've never messed with and I'm starting to get curious. I picked up a Diamana Whiteboard 73 shaft and I think I might throw it in the TM 300 Tour head to see what this thing can do.

I've read a ton of threads about this club and everyone claimed that it was still as good as any driver that had been produced since. However, most of those threads were posted most recently in 2008 or 2009.

Based on the advancements in tech in the past few years, is this claim still true? For a better player, will the 'Holy Grail' still perform as well as anything else that is out there?

Curious to see if any of you still play it.

I'll let y'all know what my findings are, after I get the head shafted and take it to the range.

It will still feel fantastic but the 300 series didn't have the inverted cone face technology so ball speed will be lower on off center hits. Still fun to play around with though! Might have to bring mine back out.

I assume that since there were only 2 responses, the club is not that relevant anymore? That is a shame. I think there is something to be said for a driver that is 360 cc. Its funny how quickly our perspective can change. I remember when the 975D came out (260cc) and we thought it was huge! Then the 983K came out at 365cc and we thought it was enormous! Now we see the 360cc Taylormade 300 Tour as 'tiny'. The sizes of these older clubs sitting in our attics have not changed since the days that we gamed them. However, our perspectives have changed dramatically. Can imagine how huge a 360cc head were appear to Hogan or Snead??

PBrowne, It doesn't matter if 3 reply or 3,000. You are looking for your holy grail. By (loose) definition, the "Holy Grail" is the ultimate quest for something that is sacred. In the golf world, your TM 300 Tour could be just that...to you. Dust the buggar off and take it to the range. If it kicks butt, and does better than what you currently bag, then you've found YOUR holy grail. I've got a Steelhead Plus 3 wood that is collecting dust in the garage that I might do the same with. Enjoy your "new" club!

As does the R510-TP, R540XD-TP and R580XD-TP. These particular R500 series heads are all Holy Grails in my book and the ONLY drivers good enough to replace the 300 Tour in my bag. The 500 series seemed to be TM's "golden era"., and distance was maxed during that time. Ever since, TM has focused primarily on adustablity and forgiveness,(MOI), rather than pure performance. That is why the super-solid feel and muted sound of the above R500 series head has been lost. Long lives the R500 Series!

I remember purchasing the Taylormade 360TI back in 2002. I had been a little reluctant to switch to one of the larger heads thinking I didn't need such a large driver head to hit the ball straight. I remember demoing the club at the driving range and being blown away by how far, long, and high I was hitting that driver. I know I picked up 20 yards overnight with that club (I'm sure my old driver probably didn't even fit me well either). Now that I've been fitted, the only way to pick up 20 yards is to do it the old fashioned way: working on my swing, strength training and flexibility.
Perhaps I am a bit old school with my choice, but I have hit plenty of the newer technology drivers and what I consider delusional is people who buy into all the marketing hype that the latest is greatest. There are many ways to measure driver performance but the best way is actual play on the course, (not with launch monitors, trackman etc). Fact is, I have never found a driver more solid or workable, or as much of a fairway finder as the one I have in the bag now. Distance is quite respectable compared with the latest out there as well. I am certainly not the only one who still loves the R500 Tour, the R510-TP, etc. Maybe you should try and find one to compare with your present driver ON THE COURSE! You might just be surpised.

Apparently you didn't read my post. I own the 510 tp. It's a great driver . . . The r11 is 15 yards longer and just as workable. Don't be ignorant and assume the earth is flat.

I suggest you check that attitude along with the title of the thread you are posting to. My only point is that older drivers can indeed still be relevant, (the question the OP was asking), but obviously you have a different view. Different strokes for different folks. I'll stick with my R500 Tour, and perhaps you'll get a full season out of your R11. At least we do agree on one thing...the (2003) R510-TP is still a great driver! If you are just trolling for an argument because you had a bad day, maybe you should find another venue.

Funny, the last round I played my father-in-law forgot his driver. I grabbed my 300 tour out of the truck for him to use. He didn't have too much luck with it. His good drive is a sorta heeled low bullet. The 300 tour does not like that apparently. I didn't hit it until the 18th hole, a nice tight draw right down the pipe. You can't beat the sound/feel for sure. Distance is pretty much the same. What I like about the "smaller" drivers is that it seems you don't have to tee them high to get the most out of them. I've been gaming a 9015D for the last couple years though.

Toph84

Holy Grail of TM drivers would go R7 282, 510 TP, then maaaaaybe the 300 Tour.

I'll let y'all know what my findings are, after I get the head shafted and take it to the range.
Slightly old topic, but I have some relevant, recent experience to offer. I played a TM 300 ti this summer and alternated with a 910D2, distances were the same on good drives, I can honestly say that I did not hit the 300 ti one yard shorter than the 910D2 and I use a GPS. The difference, as has been said many times, is not distance; 0.830 COR is 0.830 COR no matter how big the head is. The 300 ti was simply shorter on mishits and easier to mishit. I found I could literally be sloppy with the 910 and still get fine results. Something us 'delusional' golfers can keep in mind is that despite all the 'advances' in club technology, the average handicap has not changed for as far back as records go. From 1995 to 2005 tour handicaps rose by 1/4 point... Play the 300 ti, I did and it won't hurt your score one bit. Not to mention the things sound and feel amazing.

Have one of these. Used it on a launch monitor not to long ago. I was averaging 6-8 yards less distance compared to the latest and greatest technology. My furthest drive with my new driver was 13 yards longer than my longest driver with the Ti Tour. My Ti Tour is not custom built. It has an old Penley black and yellow shaft it in. The new drivers I was using had the latest and greatest shafts in them.

This "Holy Grail" thing is purely an Internet forum construct, isn't it? Desirability based on forum groupthink seldom lasts more than a few months, if that.Hence the usual pattern of certain clubs being supposedly nigh impossible to obtain today and by early next year the BST is flooded with them, first at ridiculous prices then and 1/3 to 1/2 the ridiculous price but still overpriced. If the driver is a good one for you, play it until you can read the logo any more. Otherwise, toss it and move on. Nothing sadder than trying to chase last year's Holy Grail, the thrill just isn't there any more.

J13

Holy grail is another name for classic IMO. Classic's are those clubs that will be played for longer then normal periods and stay relevant for long periods of time due to design, performance, or a combination.

10 years ago the term "holy grail" was definitely used quite at bit when describing the 300 Tour and to a certain extent, the 510 TP, but not used anymore since the CC size and COR is already maxed out now...any driver made in the last 3 years would have been labelled a holy grail driver back then..

I remember that exact head which I personally saw sell for over $1600 and $1400 on ebay. That is the head that started the "tour issue" craze. The 300 Tour was followed by the R510DF also the R510TP. DF had "Titanium" on the toe and almost always had a Txxxxx serial #. Some had no serial #. In any case the R510DF and R510 TP Tours really outperformed everything available imo when released.
Thanks everyone, lots of good thoughts and opinions. After I got it re-shafted with the whiteboard, I went out and tested it on trackman, as well as on the course. The club performed great and when hit solid, the numbers were as good as the trackman numbers for solid strikes with an R11S, which was also shafted with a whiteboard (i have done extensive shaft testing and the whiteboard is an ideal fit for me). Therefore the only variable was the head. The sound and feel of the 300 Tour was significantly better than the R11S but as expected, my mishits with the 300 Tour showed significantly lower numbers in comparison to the R11S. This experiment showed that for me, the advances in technology result in more forgiveness and better ball speed on off-center hits, but when struck solidly, there is not change in distance and ball flight. This might not be the case for everyone, but for a better player, i think it holds true. I have put the 300 Tour in the bag and plan to continue to keep it there for a while. Opting to use this driver as opposed to a 460 CC driver is basically the equivalent of using blades instead of cavity backs, as I have found that it has really improved my game b/c it forces me to swing within myself in order to make consistent center contact. Hoep everyone has a great Thanksgiving weekend out on the course. Cheers

Urban Soundtracks: Rostov-on-Don According to Motorama

' src=

For reasons unknown to me, Russian music has never broken into the Western consciousness, beyond that brief t.A T.u phase in the 2000’s. Americans just never caught on to the wonder that is Philipp Kirkorov, I suppose. Nonetheless,  Motorama has carved out a small niche for themselves as an underground hit. Maybe this is down to their lyrics being in English, or perhaps it’s the fact that they have a near-perfect capacity to summarize our twisted emotional landscape with their own brand of Post Punk.

Hailing from Rostov, Russia, they were formed outside the Moscow and Saint Petersburg cultural centers, which produce the bulk of the nation’s cultural exports. Known for being a far more rough city, Rostov appears to be the ideal backdrop for Motorama’s amazing capacity to engender emotions, like disappointment and anxiety. However, little writing is produced about the city and it attracts few tourists from outside Russia. As such, we spoke to  Vladislav Parshin from the band, and he kindly put together a bit of a mix to understand the place a bit more.

For most people anything outside of Russia, the country is a complete mystery. How did being from Rostov shape your musical tastes and you guys as artists?

For me the main influence was my father who showed me tons of great music from the Soviet Union and abroad and all these songs formed my tastes. Rostov-on-Don is also an important part of shaping the taste, as I knew personally the members of the New Wave/Post-Punk 90’s bands like Elen  and Matrosskaya Tishina , they influenced me in the beginning of the 2000’s.

It is interesting looking at musical scenes that are outside the centers of arts like Manchester, Seattle, and Louisville. It is as if being removed from the mainstream conversation allows you to produce something completely unique and personal. To a certain degree, do you think that your band was almost blessed to be outside the major cities of mainstream culture?

I won’t say that it was a blessing, but it was fine for us as a band. I think that living outside the big cultural spots is a good chance for creating something by yourself, you have more free time, instead of visiting never ending exhibitions, concerts and parties. But at the same time it’s harder to meet people who share the same ideas and who can help you in what you are doing. In general I feel comfortable living in Rostov-on-Don, we are flying to Moscow and St. Petersburg from time to time only because of the concerts.

The mix is fantastic. It is very Post Punk/synth-inspired. However, it is hardly the most ‘sunshine and rainbows’ mix. You’ve said in other interviews that there is nothing exciting about your home city of Rostov. Does that contribute to the sound of the mix?

I like such music and I think it suits our city.

In many articles, your work has been compared to British post-punk bands but I think it is fair to say that you’re part of a broader Soviet/post-Soviet tradition of bands like Kino. What is it about this darker style of music that continues to attract people across different generations in the former USSR?

I think that there’s a specific side in Russian character that is connected with such dark or sorrowful music. For example, lots of traditional folk songs from different parts of Russia are based on metaphysical stories connected with faith and death. All these existential problems are reflected in different art genres here, not only with music, but also literature.

Masters 2024 Preview: How To Watch, Betting Odds, Tiger Woods Props And Potential Impact Of 2 Pregnant Spouses On Tournament

Zinger key points.

  • The 2024 Masters Tournament sees Scottie Scheffler as the betting favorite with strong recent form.
  • Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and two other golfers could be among the biggest storylines during the annual golf major tournament.

The 88 th Masters Tournament kicks off Thursday, April 11 and runs through Sunday, April 14. Among the 89 golfers competing in the annual tournament is Tiger Woods , who has won the tournament five times previously.

Here's a look at how to watch the tournament, the betting odds and several other key storylines.

How to Watch 2024 Masters Tournament: The 2024 Masters Tournament runs Thursday through Sunday and will include top storylines like Woods competing and others like Rory McIlroy looking for their first green jacket and a win at the event.

ESPN, a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company DIS , will broadcast the 2024 Masters Tournament on Thursday and Friday.

CBS, which is a unit of Paramount Global PARA PARAA , will air coverage of the tournament on Saturday and Sunday.

Streaming platforms ESPN+ and Paramount+ will have coverage of all four days, with specific holes and groups of golfers covered.

Betting Odds: Last year, Jon Rahm , one of the top betting favorites, clinched victory at the 2023 Masters Tournament.

Ahead of the event, Rahm had odds of around +700 to +1,200 depending on the sportsbook.

This year's event sees one of the top betting favorites in recent years with Scottie Scheffler in top form and the odds-on favorite to win a second Masters, after his win in 2022.

Scheffler has won two of his last three PGA Tour events, placing second in the other event, and is the number one ranked golfer in the world. Scheffler has six top 10 finishes during the 2024 PGA Tour season.

Last year, Scheffler finished tied for 10 th place.

Here are the current odds to win the 2024 Masters and place in the top 10 from sportsbook DraftKings Inc DKNG .

  • Scheffler: +400 win, -200 top 10
  • Rory McIlroy : +1,000, +110
  • Rahm: +1,100, +115
  • Xander Schauffele : +1,400, +130
  • Brooks Koepka : +1,600, +190
  • Hideki Matsuyama : +1,800, +170
  • Jordan Spieth : +2,500, +200
  • Joaquin Niemann : +2,800, +240
  • Ludvig Aberg : +3,000, +250
  • Bryson DeChambeau : +3,500, +300

Key Storylines to Watch : Woods has not been as active on the golf tour in recent years due to injuries. He competed last year and made the cut before withdrawing with an injury . This year, Woods has the worst odds ever to win a championship.

Here are the current odds for Woods.

Win: +14,000, Top 5: +2,200, Top 10: +900, Top 20: +330

Woods is also listed at -115 to make the cut after the first two days. For the Masters, the top 50 golfers by score, including ties, make the cut to the final two days.

This will mark the first Masters Tournament since Woods began a new partnership with TaylorMade after ending a long running apparel partnership and sponsorship with Nike Inc NKE . Wood's new clothes could be a big story at the event.

Woods has competed in 25 Masters Tournaments with 24 cuts, tying a record for 23 straight cuts last season. The golfer hasn't won since the 2019 tournament and has only ranked in the top 10 three times over his last 10 times at the tournament, but making the cut remains a popular bet.

Scheffler could be another top storyline for the event, and not just because he is the favorite. Scheffler's wife Meredith is pregnant with the couple's first child and has a due date around three weeks away.

According to the Golf Channel, Scheffler has gone on the record to say that he would withdraw from the tournament at any point if his wife is in labor back home in Texas.

Sportsbooks would be faced with a tough decision of whether to void any bets or accept normal rules of golfers withdrawing being a loss. BetMGM's John Ewing said the bets would be marked as losses.

Barstool Sportsbook owner Dave Portnoy is likely hoping that Scheffler's wife doesn't go into labor after betting $300,000 for a potential profit of $1.35 million if Scheffler wins as the favorite.

Along with Scheffler, golfer Sam Burns also faces the same challenge of golfing and having a pregnant wife back home (Louisiana) who could call at any point. Burns has also said he would withdraw if his wife went into labor, she’s due in one week.

Burns is the 22nd ranked golfer and has odds of +7,500 to win the 2024 Masters and odds of +500 to finish in the top 10.

Golf Digest shared that Phil Mickelson carried a beeper around during the final round of the 1999 U.S. Open with his wife pregnant. The golfer came in second place, and his wife gave birth the next day.

McIlroy remains one of the top golfers in the world and has won three of the four major tournaments, with the Masters being the only title he's missing.

In a recent interview , McIlroy recalled all the winners of the Masters since the year he was born, 1989, and predicted himself as the 2024 winner. McIlroy's best finish at the tournament was second, and he has seven top 10 finishes in the last 10 years. The golfer was cut in both 2023 and 2021, the years surrounding his second-place finish (2022).

  10. 300 Series Fairway Woods:

The fairway series compliments the 300 Series Driver I tested out (the 320 Ti), and now I believe I have the right clubs to replace my old two-iron and 3-wood.
