JonMarc Grodi’s interest in helping people understand the Catholic faith goes back to his childhood. His father, Marcus, a former Presbyterian minister, brought their whole family into the Church when JonMarc was only five years old. Growing up around converts and those exploring the Catholic faith, he learned to appreciate the gift of what it means to be Catholic, and how to effectively communicate the beauty and truth of the Faith with those seeking a home in the Church.
JonMarc went on to work in campus ministry while pursuing his undergraduate degree in Philosophy at Bowling Green State University, and later earned a Masters Degree in Philosophy from Franciscan University of Steubenville. Throughout this time, he remained connected to the mission that his father started with the Coming Home Network, and in 2022, JonMarc became Executive Director of the organization.
After 25 years of hosting The Journey Home on EWTN, Marcus Grodi passed the torch to his son JonMarc, who in his role as the new host brings to the program a lifetime of experience working with Catholic converts.
JonMarc lives with his wife, Teresa, and their six children in Perrysburg, Ohio.

What's the Story?
In HERO DOG: THE JOURNEY HOME, Royce ( Steve Byers ), a blind man, is commuting on a boat to see his family after working all week at his new job in the city. He's accompanied by Chinook, an Alaskan Malamute. While crossing the lake, the captain of the boat collapses and falls unconscious, and while the boat doesn't capsize in the lake or crash into the rocks near the shore, Royce is on an isolated part of the lake with no one but Chinook to help him get back. While his two kids, Max and Erin, wait for Royce at the dock with their Aunt Susan ( Natasha Henstridge ). (Their mother died of cancer two years earlier.) Susan begins to fear the worst, and the search for Royce soon begins, first on the lake and then through the thick forest around the lake.
As the search continues and Royce remains missing, Max and Erin decide to sneak out and use their camping skills to conduct a search of their own, but they soon become lost themselves. Meanwhile, Royce, with the help of Chinook, must cross rough waters, navigate dangerous crossings, and face off against a mountain lion. Nonetheless, Chinook proves to be a brave companion to Royce, with a rather extraordinary gift for orienteering. But when Royce sustains finds himself trapped beneath a log and unable to move, it's going to require the help of Chinook, Royce's kids, and the entire search party to somehow find Royce and get him and Chinook back home.
Is It Any Good?
This is a heavy-handed adventure story about a dog in the wild, but kids will probably enjoy it. It's the story of a man who lost his vision while serving his country in Afghanistan who now must find a way to navigate the deepest of woods after the captain of the boat that was to take him back to his family loses consciousness and leaves him far from home, with only an Alaskan Malamute named Chinook to get him home. There's plenty of the requisite peril -- everything from mountain lions to wolves to merciless rocks and rapids, and if that's not enough, the son and daughter of the lead character soon become lost themselves after they try to use their camping skills to do what the helicopters, planes, and walkie talkies of the search party cannot do. But no matter. Chinook is preternaturally gifted at orienteering, and knows when to bark when the danger to the humans is especially eminent.
The lead character is not only blind, but he has also lost his wife to cancer two years ago. He works a job in "the city" now that the local mine has closed. Also, his son resents his dad for taking the job because that means they're going to move to the big city, and the son wants to continue to enjoy his life in the great outdoors. It's already a lot, so it seems a bit much to also have to face off against a rabid mountain lion with nothing but a flare gun and a big dog. It's clearly in the tradition of the older Disney movies with gifted pets who rescue their grateful human counterparts, but it really doesn't do anything new with that tried-and-true formula. Still, dog lovers will enjoy seeing a heroic dog do his thing.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about movies that prominently feature dogs, such as Hero Dog: The Journey Home . How does this compare to other "dog movies" you've seen?
The lead character lost his vision while serving in the military in Afghanistan. Does this movie portray an accurate depiction of someone without sight? Why or why not?
Did the peril that these characters faced seem necessary to the story, or did it seem exaggerated and unnecessary? Why?

Natasha Henstridge in 'Hero Dog: The Journey Home' Movie Trailer
by Alex Billington January 13, 2021 Source: YouTube
"He's a perfect dog for the wilderness… I believe in him." Lionsgate has unveiled an official trailer for a film titled Hero Dog: The Journey Home , yet another Homeward Bound riff about a dog that helps save a human. It's not an exact copy, but close enough, and considering this is a direct-to-DVD title don't expect much originality. Crossing a lake by boat to return to his family, Royce, who is blind, is stranded when the boat's captain suddenly falls ill. To find help, Royce enlists Chinook, a brave malamute doggo, to serve as his seeing-eye dog as they navigate the wilderness. Chinook must protect Royce from treacherous rapids, jagged rocks, and savage mountain lions on their long, heroic journey of survival. Starring Natasha Henstridge and Steve Byers , with John Tench and Zackary Arthur . It does look like an inspiring and lovely story of a dog being the best boi, and I'm glad Ikona gets named in the trailer along with the human actors. Enjoy.

6. Dr. Alicia Thompson, former Agnostic
5. Deacon Peter Grodi, Lifelong Catholic
4. Rachelle Parker, former Church of Christ
3. Dr. Jonathan Fuqua, former Evangelical Protestant
Dr. Jonathan Fuqua’s family took him to Oneness Pentecostal churches when he was young, but they eventually transitioned to the more mainstream Assemblies of God as he entered his teenage years. When he met serious, thoughtful Evangelical Christians in college, it began to broaden his view of Christianity beyond his Pentecostal roots. When that broadening led him to a study of Church history and philosophy, doors seemed to open everywhere around him. And all of those doors seemed to be leading him to a very particular place: the Catholic Church. Watch Dr. Fuqua’s episode.
2. Keith Nester, former Methodist pastor

Worried About an Air Fryer Fire? Follow These 5 Rules for Safe Cooking
A series of air fryer recalls has illuminated some hazards associated with countertop cooking. Here's what you need to know.
Air fryers are plenty safe as long as you follow a few simple rules.
Several popular air fryer brands have issued recalls in the past few years -- Insignia being the latest -- and causing many to ask, "Are air fryers safe to use?" The answer is yes, mostly. As long as you have a properly functioning machine and follow a few simple steps, your air fryer shouldn't pose a serious risk of fire or injury.
Faulty air fryers and misuse, however, can cause a fire risk or burn hazards. Cleaning your air fryer regularly and using it according to the instructions will prevent most cases of air fryer fire, error or malfunction.
Are air fryers dangerous?
The potential risk of an air fryer should not overshadow the mighty countertop oven's many benefits. In fact, air fryers are generally safer than other cooking methods, including natural gas stoves , which have flammable gas flow and an open flame. Two alarming studies also show that gas stoves can leak toxic gas when not in use and may contribute to childhood asthma.
When used properly, air fryers cut down on fat and calories compared to deep-frying or pan-frying and are an excellent conduit for eating more healthily . They can also save money on your energy bill if you use one instead of the wall oven which takes more energy to heat and longer to cook food once heated.
Increased air fryer recalls since 2021
But that doesn't mean air fryers pose no risk. Faulty wiring or user error can cause air fryers to overheat, burn the food inside or melt the machine itself, leading to several reported cases of kitchen fires and burns. To date, there have been no deaths reported.
One of the reasons could be an influx of cheap air fryers, some as cheap as $20 or $30. A few of those cheaper brands have caused problems leading to consumer recalls. While you certainly don't have to spend more than $100 on an air fryer -- and probably shouldn't -- going too cheap could mean trouble.
If you're thinking of buying one, check out CNET's complete guide to air fryers , including how they work and what to consider when choosing a model. In this post, I'll explain the potential dangers of using an air fryer and how to mitigate the risk of an air fryer-related fire in your kitchen.
1. Clean your air fryer basket after every use
Wash the entire air fryer basket with soap and water after every use. Avoid the dishwasher, which can corrode the nonstick surface over time.
Air fryers are great for cooking chicken wings, mozzarella sticks (OK, not all air fryer food is healthy) and other crave-able snacks. If you don't add any cooking oil or spray, you might notice a pool of oil or film left in the basket when you lift out the eats. That oil, and any other food bits, should be thoroughly cleaned after every use. Residual oil and small burnt bits of food will increase the chance of a fire inside the basket.
The good news is that most air fryer baskets are nonstick so all it takes is a few vigorous scrubs with a warm soapy sponge to get them ready for the next session. Some air fryer baskets are advertised as dishwasher-safe, but I suggest washing them by hand. The pummeling your basket will take inside the dishwasher can erode the nonstick coating over time.
2. Clean the coils above the basket once a month
Clean the coils above your air fryer cooking basket for a safer kitchen and better-tasting food.
A less obvious but equally important part of the air fryer to clean is the coils and the area surrounding them inside the hull of the fryer and above the basket. During cooking, oil, sauce and even bits of food can spatter up and onto those coils. You likely won't notice this buildup unless you tilt the air fryer back or turn it upside down completely.
When cleaning the inside of an air fryer, it's best to avoid the use of soap, since residual soap could taint food the next time you cook. And saturating it with too much water could potentially damage the functionality of the coils. Instead, use a damp scrubby or the rough side of your sponge. If you do it often enough, it shouldn't be difficult to get those coils clean.
Aside from lowering the risk of fire, cleaning this section will keep your air frying humming along and cooking with optimal power.
3. Give the air fryer its own outlet while in use and unplug it after
The safest outlet is an empty one.
Air fryers use a good amount of voltage and thus have the potential to cause an electrical fire. It's always best to unplug them when not in use. Some air fryers are rather quiet, so this also ensures the air fryer isn't still running or won't be accidentally turned on by a passing cat or the curious hand of a toddler. (Plus, this can save you some money over time, as appliances can still draw power even when they're turned off .)
Kitchen appliances, including toasters, air fryers and microwaves, should also be plugged directly into an outlet rather than into an extension cord or outlet extender since they add more resistance to the flow of electricity. You should also avoid running your air fryer through an outlet with other appliances plugged in, especially those in use, as it can put stress on the circuits.
In truth, any electrical appliance can cause a fire if there's a faulty electrical outlet or bad wiring. Call an electrician if you hear a crackling or see sparks. Speaking of damaged electrical outlets, try to position your air fryer so the hot air blowing out the back is not hitting an electrical outlet in your kitchen. Over time, this can cause problems.
4. Don't crowd the air fryer basket while cooking
If you're struggling to get the basket in because food is piled so high, it might be time for a larger air fryer.
One thing you don't want is food touching the hot coils during use or loads of grease and sauce splattering up toward the hot coils. To avoid this, don't overcrowd the cooking basket or pile food so high that you have to jostle or squish it to get the basket in. If you find yourself jamming food in to cook the amount you need for you or the family, it might be time to spring for a larger air fryer.
5. Don't leave the air fryer unattended
Do make bacon in the air fryer, but don't walk too far away while it's cooking.
Air fryers get hot and they get hot fast. As with any oven, you won't want to walk too far away from it while it's in use and monitor for smoke or unusual smells like burning food or plastic. And always adhere to the cooking instructions.
Many ovens only suggest cooking on higher temps for 20 minutes or less at a time. Read your air fryer instructions carefully before diving in.
Do air fryer baskets contain harmful chemicals or PFOA?
Air fryer baskets are coated with the same chemicals as nonstick cookware. If you're trying to avoid nonstick altogether, you have plenty of options.
Most air fryer baskets are coated with a chemical nonstick surface. Depending on how old you are, you've probably heard about Teflon and may be wondering if it's safe. A chemical called PFOA used in the original Teflon was linked to cancer and banned in 2014.
New and purportedly safer materials such as GenX are now used for nonstick-coated cookware and air fryer baskets. There is still some skepticism and an ongoing debate about the safety of nonstick but, to date, no major studies have linked modern cookware use to negative health outcomes in those who use nonstick or Teflon cookware. Although GenX, when consumed in higher quantities and when found in drinking water, has been deemed toxic by the EPA .
If you're trying to avoid nonstick altogether, there are options for air fryers with nonstick baskets, such as this model . Most air-frying toaster ovens come with wire racks instead of baskets and present another good alternative to nonstick.
